The House of Representatives will reconvene on Sunday evening, just less than 30 hours before the United States reaches the fiscal cliff.
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, notified lawmakers that the House would come to order at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday in hopes of averting the end-of-year combination of tax hikes and spending cuts that constitute the fiscal cliff.
With five days until the Bush-era tax cuts expire, House Speaker John Boehner has essentially removed the House from final negotiations, telling the Senate it's up to them to come up with a deal that his chamber will pass.
In briefing fellow Republicans on Thursday afternoon, Boehner re-iterated what he's said publicly the past few days. The top House Republican said the Senate must act first to send a bill to the House. (Senate Democratic leaders are insisting that the House pass a Senate bill that would preserve income tax rates on those earning less than $250,000 per year.)
"We've done our job, it's up to the Senate to act," Boehner told members, according to a lawmaker on the call. "We'll see if they do anything."

Whether any final deal could emerge in the waning hours before the Dec. 31 deadline was less clear. There were rumblings of a meeting on Friday between President Barack Obama and leaders in Congress. (A senior administration official told NBC's Kristen Welker that no such meeting had been set up.) And the White House shot down Republican-fueled indications that the Obama administration had made a new entreaty to the GOP in hopes of averting the fiscal cliff.
Obama called congressional leaders on Wednesday evening before departing Hawaii to return to Washington, initiating conversations that fell largely dormant during the Christmas holiday this past weekend.
Among the complicating details include the ideological split in both parties that might force relative moderates from both parties to join forces to advance any final deal.
The Senate and President Obama return to Washington on Thursday to again work on the fiscal cliff. What can we expect? NBC News' Mike Viqueira and Peter Alexander discuss. Mark Murray also joins the discussion.
The lawmaker on Thursday's call told NBC News that any Senate plan Boehner puts on the House floor (of which there is no guarantee) would only receive as few as 40 Republican votes, making Democratic help necessary.
"If the Senate will not approve these bills and send them to the president to be signed into law in their current form, they must be amended and returned to the House," Boehner told Republicans Thursday, according to a source on the call. "Once this has occurred, the House will then consider whether to accept the bills as amended, or to send them back to the Senate with additional amendments. The House will take this action on whatever the Senate can pass -- but the Senate must act."

Your drunken binge is finally over... eh Johnny? lol
Time to sober up for a couple of days and realize you & your cohorts are playing Russian Roulette with the lives of Americans...
...Again!
If anything positive comes out of this melodrama, I hope it's Boehner losing his Speaker-ship!
This clown can't lead a Girl Scout bake sale, let alone the House of Representatives...
I agree Feisty. Boehner is worthless and he shouldn't even be serving in Congress.
Holy Crock of @!$%#!
This guy better lose his gavel. What a complete tool.
And, the tighty righties will be apoplectic that a bill won't be online for 48 hours prior to signing; but they'll never look INWARD at the cluster@!$%# that is their 'Representation'. Personally, he represents them just fine. Out to lunch, out of touch and indifferent to the plight of the masses.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Hey Feisty, I've led a GS bake sale - He couldn't even count the $20's!
He might get more accomplished if he convened the House democrats, and told the House GOPTP to stay home for the holidays. That being said, nothing like passing a bill at 11:59 PM on 12/31/12 and then blaming the Senate for failing to pass the bill before the year-end deadline.
What an absolute failure...I mean both Boehner and the Party of No.
I can't believe the smirk on the face of Eric Cantor. I do not believe in Evil. But if it exists... probably it looks quite close to that smirk.
All I read is a bunch of complaining about Boehner. What he said is absolutely correct. A bill was passed by the House and sent to the Senate. Reid refuses to review the bill, even though he can make any changes to it that he wishes and send it back to the House.
Where is the complaining about the Senate?
Looking at the pictures of Republican House leaders, they seem so proud of themselves. Positively beaming, as if they'd killed bin Laden, or saved the auto industry, or won an election, instead of furthering the country down the road to recession. I look more serious after playing two hours of Words w Friends. That game furroughs my brow. These guys are supposed to be negotiating to prevent our going over the cliff. Why are these men SMILING? Smiling? More like smirking, almost ready to giggle. Jerks.
"We've done our job, it's up to the Senate to act," Boehner said. Let me tell you bone head, your boy Donald Trump would fire your ass if you made such a statement to him! There is no way in hell any - repeat - ANY of you Repteallians have "done our job" unless you mean the little brown ones in the white ceramic bowl! and even that is problematical!!!!!
Yep Amy, those items really increased the debt.
"as if they killed bin Laden" - Obama told us, and often, that he pulled the trigger (in his own mind).
"saved the auto industry" - GM going Chapter 11 again.
And we all know that we don't have the money to spend, but he wants to doedo it again.
Why does Obama keep moving the negotiation target? He NEEDS the money for his continuingprograms to keep everyone on the progressive dole!
The US Federal Government, the largest corporation in America - and the most mismanaged one too!
Sounds more like a "pre-New Year's Eve Party," to me. Tax payer funded Champagne and Hors d'oeuvres for every republican who makes it.
Nothing happening there but a good time...at taxpayer expense.
Child, back away from FOX news. Can you show any proof the President said "He" killed bin Laden?
P.S. Your moniker makes sense...LOL I get it, you're a commedian
LOL! That's the truth. And what is the point of calling them back when most of them aren't going to change their vote? They want no compromise. They expect to be allowed to lead on this issue less than two months after getting beaten up in a national election. It's a farce! It's a joke! It's a circus! All in one! But that's modern Republicanism.
Hard to believe they still have their defenders but delusion has no easy cure. And as deluded as their supporters have proven themselves they probably won't lose much of that support.
Absurd and destructive repub baggers have done NOTHING for America or the people....Boneher is the ONLY ONE with HISTORY of getting things done for the Nation..They all need to be kicked to the curb!
Disgusting trash..
Call them out:
1.866.338.3405 1.866. 311 3405
House republicans seem determined to destroy this country. They certainly try often enough. The blame lies squarely with them and no one else. The senate majority, the President and the PEOPLE agree that the tax cuts should NOT be extended for those making over $250K per year. They also agree that SSI and Medicare should not be cut. House republicans need to bend to the majority instead of making the rest of us suffer so they can keep getting campaign funding and other payoffs from millionaires. Dems should not give ONE INCH!
Republicans sent a renew of the 2010 bill to the Senate back in August. Still no action on it in the Senate.
If Plan "C" is anything like Plan "B" Obama will veto IF the Senate even passes it, If, the House even it passes the House.
Something sounds awful familiar here.
Reagan
Your "love" language is far more destructive than any tea party member has ever been.
armurray,
What about the Senate bill passed on a bipartisian basis that Boehner won't introduce because he knows it will pass with more Democratic votes than Republicans?
Good hell, Boehner, thanks for the CIVICS lesson. I noticed a few verbs in your statement like "take action." Took you awhile to spew that one out! Also noted that the Senate must NOT make any changes or they come back to your do nothing Congress to sit on for what ... you've had almost two months after the election to get this far - and are now stating if they don't ... what another two months?
Good grief!!!
I so hope you lose your Speakership.
John, the country is sooo done with you, your party, and your brainwashed supporters.
Vote every republican out of every office every chance you get.
Hello folks, in the long run nothing will happen if we go over the "fiscal cliff". The middle class and poor will end up paying the ever increasing bill. The "fiscal cliff" is a ruse being used to implement austerity on the middle class and poor to give more to the rich. It's a game!
The banksters whose recklessness and illegal behavior caused this terrible recession are now lecturing the American people on the need for courage to deal with the nation’s finances and deficit crisis. Before telling us why we should cut Social Security, Medicare and other vitally important programs, these CEOs might want to take a hard look at their responsibility for causing the deficit and this terrible recession.
Our economy is based on debt. The Fractional Reserve Banking System relies on debt and if we didn't have any debt in the system there wouldn't be any "money" in the system. In other words our 16 plus trillion and our 1 plus trillion yearly deficit are required and a byproduct to prop up and maintain this evil Federal Reserve system. That is why 85 billion dollars of monopoly money is being pumped into the economy monthly to prop up the banks to perpetuate the illusion that our economy is solvent. That is why the 1.4 quadrillion derivatives casino market is allowed. To give this failed system the illusion that it is liquid. If the powers that be would allow a bank to go bankrupt they would have to attach a price on their assets that they have leveraged 100 to 1 and re-hypothecated to all the other major banks the banks would fall like dominoes. The people in the position and in the know understand that this is all a game and are wealthy beyond reproach. The only reason this system has survived is for two reasons, the petrodollar and because when you and I exchange a dollar we give it legitimacy. If either of these two factors collapse so will the dollar, nothing is backing it up because it is meaningless it is debt.
If we paid/gave every dollar the entire world has back to the consortium of mostly European banksters who created this monopoly money out of thin air we would still be in debt because they didn't put the interest attached to every dollar into the economic system in the form of currency. Therefore there will always be debt and it will grow and has grown exponentially and as a result creates debt slaves out of us all and the powers that be know this. So it doesn't matter if we raise the debt ceiling under this system because the dollar is the world reserve currency and we can "print ourselves out of debt" as long as the world is willing to deal with the inflation our printing inflicts on their economy. They along with the middle class and poor are the ones who are footing the bill for our debt.
The bottom line is that the banksters/Federal Reserve hold the true power in the world and as long as we don't recognize and reveal the man behind the curtain we will be consigned to the Merry Ole Land of Oz and be relegated to more and more austerity. It is only beginning!
P.S. And to you Republican Democrat blame gamers unless you are in the top 1% they keep you divided and distracted while screwing you equally!
Help! Ive fallen and I can't get up!
Please can the president, the democrats, the senate, can anybody help me up, my own party members in the house just keep stepping over me, except for Eric, that little bastard just keeps stepping on me. Where is my gavel, I want my gavel, HELL NO I can't get up, it's about JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, we have a spending problem I tell you, Grover help me up will you buddy. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry to if it happened to you. John Boehner from the FLOOR of the House.
Boehner should stand fast.
Not sure why people think the Pubs will get the blame. Ultimately it will be the President who ruins the Democrat party with his inability to negotiate anything period.
This can only be bad for the Democrats if EVERY American is forced to pay higher taxes. It falls right into their parasite socialist ethos and it will show when the poor are suffering because of this obamanation.
The middle-class can suffer through it. The poor cannot.
John Boehner and his group seem to be really good at holding us all hostage. Take the issue of the day down to the last seconds . . Remember the debt ceiling fiasco last year anyone ?
Every Republican house member and Senator should hold their head in shame. This should have been done months ago. They should have known Mitt Mittens Romney was never going to be elected POTUS, and they caught with their pants down.
Troy,
Read a little..All polls show the Right will be blamed for the fiscal cliff for the desire to NEVER COMPROMISE ON ANYTHING..
Brad Cantor,
The right already compromised. They have already agreed to raising taxes on people making over $400k/year. Where is the left's compromise on reduced spending on entitlements?
Can't blame me... I voted against all incumbents.
Plan "C"... Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Who needs the Comedy Channel?
armurray - nope, the house turned that option down. Won't allow ANY taxes to be raised . None. Zip Nada Zilch!
dbakron..........
the Senate passed a budget bill this summer. the house has refused to vote on it.
ARMURRAY,
Where are you getting your facts? Boehner couldn't even get the votes in the House to agree to raise taxes on those that make a million dollars or more..Please, an education is a valuable thing..And, Obama has compromised on what you call entitlements..Why is it an entitlement when I have paid into it my whole working life? It's not an "entitlement", but it's my insurance policy..
If we go over the fiscal "curb" Obama gets what he needs.
If the GOP (pronounced goober) puts up a plan that is good for 90% of hard working americans, Obama gets what he needs.
Win Win
"If anything positive comes out of this melodrama, I hope it's Boehner losing his Speaker-ship!
"I so hope you lose your Speakership."
....and that gavel. That f***ing BIG gavel the rat-bastard just HAD to have.
armurry......
boner couldn't get them to agree on taxing $1 million and over. get up off the couch and change the channel. obviously you are watching to much fox 'the national enquirer ' news.
Ummm... I must of missed this...
Would you be so kind to give us a link to this claim? Thank You!
Last I heard the Weeper of the House didn't even have enough votes to get his brilliant "Plan B" to a vote...
Cheese and crackers got all muddy. Sunday? Monday is New Year's Eve which means they will turn right around and go home Monday afternoon. What in the world is the matter with these GOP clowns? Why didn't Boehner tell them last Thursday night to be back today? Even if they couldn't get their act together on the fiscal cliff, they could have passed the Farm Bill (the Senate already did); we could be looking at reverting to 1930's and 1947 laws which will sky rocket the price of milk. Economists predict as much as $7 or even $8 per gallon.
Nothing like a GOPTP to inflict another preventable wound on the U.S. economy. Once there was a time when republicans would never have allowed this to happen; now it seems the GOPTP is determined to create catastrophe and then claim it wasn't their fault. Never in all my years of following politics have I seen one party so inept and destructive as the GOPTP is today.
ARMMURRAY, no they did NOT agree to that; Boehner and his GOPTP walked away from that offer from President Obama and decided to try their own Plan B. Boehner's Plan B that failed last Thursday evening which sent republicans running for the hills would have raised taxes only on those making $1 million or more per year.
Brad Cantor,
The $400k number was the last number reportedly offered by Boehner during discussions with Obama (from the now famous "I get that for free" line).
The million dollar number was the Plan B that was put to vote in the House and rejected because the spending cuts that were part of the bill weren't acceptable to the Republicans since they didn't take effect for several years.
Regarding entitlements, the compromise offered by Boehner was to take your "insurance policy" away from those very people you want to raise taxes on... I guess even by your definition, it would then be an entitlement since it will be paid for by people who can't use it.
A small civics lesson would probably be useful for Boehner here since he can't seem to recall how things work.
It doesn't say MUST, or WILL, is says 'MAY'. If the Senate doesn't take up the bill, the onus falls onto the house to create a new bill. The bill sent to the Senate was already DOA before it arrived and Boehner knows that. He needs to listen to the MAJORITY and tax the rich. Anything else is a disservice to the American public. Stop honoring your pledge to some billionaire and instead do what you were voted into office to do. Represent your constituents. One person does not equal your constituents. The majority does, and in this case they've spoken clearly.
TAX THE RICH like the rest of us have been paying more. Even the GOP has admitted the rich are being taxed at lower than normal rates right now. Get rid of bull@!$%# tax rates for dividends, which is what the majority of the Rich use for income. It's time they started paying their fair share during this recession. Stop dog piling on the poor because they haven't bribed you.
In other words, DO YOUR JOB.
JUST SAY NO!!! JUST SAY NO!!!.....It's time for Americans to be told "no" and pay your bills.
It's time for Americans to be financially frugal. Stop the spending. Stop the insanity. The party's over and the bill was just received in the mail.
Pay your bills, Govt. Govt just got put on credit hold. I hope the world downgrades our debt because that's the only way people learn....Make it hurt.
Can anyone believe this clown? Nearly two weeks ago, he walked out of negotiations with the Presdient to pursue his own bill. When his bill failed spectacularly, he folded his tent and told the House to go home. Now he says "we have done our job?" Really?
Brad,
You are naive. I bet you don't play much chess....I peg you for checkers.
I don't see it that way. Initially, it is probable since we have a nation of low information voters who worship rather than participate.
But when the poor people begin to suffer greatly, 2 million people currently on unemployment suddenly don't get a check next week, capital gains taxes go through the roof, the population finds out that Obamacare is going to cost 10 times the estimate and estate "death" taxes jump ridiculously that will pretty much cover the whole population....and we will truly have an obamanation.
People will at some point start to wonder why the White House didn't at least negotiate SOMETHING! By that time the damage will be done and in 2014 the Dems will be losing some seats in the house and senate. They can then proceed to make Obama look entirely useless....as if he needs help.
Look, I don't care either way...I'm back here with the indys just dying for your parties to destroy any hopes of ever getting back any respect from the population so we can gain enough power to rid our great Republic of both of your useless and ineffective parties. But if I had to choose, I'd choose the Pubs any day over this socialist foodstamp President.
Let's see - Boehner calls the House Republicans back. What are the chances they'll show? After all, he can't get them to follow him on anything why does he think they will now? Or, is it possible their consituents got to them during the Christmas break and told them to get the a**es back to work and get things done or else? We shall see!
DJ-422465,
As in all federal codes, the word shall is very specific and is the same as must. If it was a suggested method, they would have used the word "should"
So, Paws,
I take it you're NOT willing to pay for the military, police, fire, rescue. IOW, you're NOT willing to pay for anything as long as it's not an inconvienence to YOU.
It's WAY past time for taxes to be raised to raise revenue to run the country. Or are you only interested in what YOU want and ignore the rest regardless of who/what gets hurt?
I for one, am tired of all the drama that surrounds our legislators doing their job. This is all uncalled for. There is just no good reason that all of our representatives should not be able to sit down and do their jobs without all of the posturing that they seem to like to do. They are playing politics instead of doing what we send them to Washington to do. Legislate!
Unfortunately a big reason they do this is for media coverage and to try to win talking points and elections. It really is out of hand. I wish there were some simple steps to fix this, and the only one that quickly comes to mind is killing the filibuster.
And all the drama around the cliff. If we go off the cliff the world won't end. There will be plenty of time to introduce new legislation to change what was agreed to in the cliff. We need our politicians to grow up.
Really did all you partisans expect something different than you are showing on this blog? You all had your chance to vote out the incumbents and you FAILED...just like the current group of legislators from all parties.
You all got what you voted for.
Just wait until you find out what is inside the ACA bill for you and your companies this year...and it continues until President Obama is retired in Hawaii laughing at all of us.
Next
I think people should be careful what they wish for; in this case the wish that Boehner lose his speakership. If Boehner loses he could be replaced by that smirking prik Eric Cantor.
And Feisty, maybe you should cut Johnny Boy a little slack on the drinking thing. I know that if I had to try to lead those house Republicans I would need to slam down a few drinks at the end of the day. Heck, I'd probably want to start the day with a few drinks!
Notsosure10 - you're also notsosmart. What a bunch of garbage your post is but it clearly shows how little information you have. Try again and this time at least make an effort to look a little saner.
Trustverify the debt ceiling will be upon us in the 1st quarter of 2013. If the Fed decides to increase the debt ceiling (print more petrodollars) our foreign creditors will interpret this as a default and quit buying American debt. This "Cliff" thing is just the calm before the storm these politicians will have to let taxes increase, cut entitlements and cut the American military to keep their positions for the short time they have left... One thing you will not hear is them cutting anything the pertains to the "Washington Fat Cats".!!
armurray, the question isn't whether the bill should originate in the House (they should). It refers to Boenhers mistaken idea that the Senate must act.
Specifically, this part:
It's time for everyone's taxes to go up! The House has already passed (months ago) legislation to prevent taxes from going up. Obama and Reid really want taxes to go up on you. Otherwise, they would have agreed to take up and pass and sign the House bill. Just remember that libs.
Paws,
If the world downgrades our credit it will cost more for us to pay off our debt.
So I guess what you're saying is that it's okay to put more burden on your children and grandchildren if it scores you political points today.
JK - you should refrain from commenting because you are talking about raising federal taxes to pay for local functions (police, fire, rescue). I bet you vote in federal elections... A perfect example of an uninformed voter... and we ask ourselves why we have what we have in Congress.
JKLD - I'm not willing to pay for robot squirrels, Pelosi's booze flights, Murtha airport, unnecessary military spending, loans to Solyndra, 16,000 new IRS agents, rebuilding Iraq or any other nation, etc etc.
There is so much waste in govt. There is plenty of opportunity for cuts.
I don't mind paying for roads, right-sized military, and the true functions of govt. However, the govt is spending with insanity and Obama is not willing to cut anything. As long as he's not willing to curtail spending, then don't raise my taxes.
COinFL - Obama's already bankrupted kids, grandkids, great grandkids with his SPENDING!!!! I don't care about political points or who does it because neither side is working for Americans.
What part of "it's a spending problem" do people not get? You can jack taxes to 100% and not cover the deficit....much less reduce any debt. Do the math...It's not hard.
Be careful there Bonehead Boner. They just might come with bags of stones, and I wouldn't blame them either.
It may be fun to bash the Tea party and Republicans but, the truth told, we should be kicking ourselves in the ass for allowing the Tea Party to take hold in the first place. So many Obama voters failed to return to the polls in 2010 that the fired up Republicans gave the Dems a huge spanking; a spanking that still stings!
A no show vote is a vote for the opposing side. Cuss as we will, in 2010 the Republicans did their part and voted...we are the ones that stayed home. We are the ones that took change for granted. Not trying to lecture or scold, just trying to remind folks that there are many cliffs from which one might fall. And in 2014 I hope we all remember the consequence of our own behavior as we get to the polls to finish the job we started in 2008.
Paws93 - you don't have a clue. President Obama has proposed many cuts - including to the Defense budget for items the Pentagon DOESN'T WANT - but Republicans refuse to go along. After all, these are THEIR supporters who will not get contracts for un-needed items!
armurray,
"Where is the complaining about the Senate?"
No one is complaining about the Senate because the Senate has a Democratic majority and is therefore, by definition, good. :)
SeekingSanity,
That is why the Republicans are in a pickle. Obama doesn't really care if we go over the cliff, because it include increased taxes and the only real cuts are to the military.
Where the Republicans really screwed up was in the original talks that are now becoming reality.
if Speaker Boehner lost his title, could the House stomach Eric Cantor? Could the country handle it? That's like replacing someone who is tone deaf with another who is completely deaf. Even the GOP Presidential candidate had a typical listening problem...
It remains sad that an election payback is two, far years away for the TP+GOP, but US and Constitutional Laws might bering some nights in jail for the worst prognosticators. Nixon tried it years ago but Obama is many notches above that activity. How about the lowly Capitol Police issuing warrants for treasonous disorderly conduct? Just thinking on how to nudge the a**wipes.
Everybody polarized, calling names, blaming everyone but themselves, crying about thier pet peeves, throwing tantrums, blustering, bullying, bluffing. And you thought I was talking about kindergarden......
If they can't get their job done in the months they had to take care of this with little more than a sweep of the pen to preserve the tax break for anyone under 250K, then of course they should have to come back on Sunday. Hope Boehner keeps them there 24 7 until they do their jobs. Of course guess who gets to pay the bill for all of them to have to fly back during the holidays and all the costs associated with that last minute booking. Well played folks. How fiscally responsible!
Oh well, paws is not willing to pay for things he doesn't like. Isn't that rich. The stupidest statement ever. There is a way you can avoid paying for things with tax money other than what you want. MOVE! Those such as yourself who incessantly belly-ache as if you are the sole source of funds for all things paid for with tax money are the epitome of ignorance.
And as far as blaming the senate. The senate is in session and ready to pass a bill. And all bills related to revenues must be initiated by the House. So all of this is squarely on the House. The senate can only amend a house bill. The president can only sign or veto a house bill. Neither can present or create a bill. That's why this is not happening. The house can't agree on anything.
Yes, they screwed up then, and they are screwing up now. This is what happens when politicians believe acting like a 2 year old is appropriate - "NO NO NO, I ME MINE". They painted themselves into a corner - and now they're huddled together watching the paint dry.
Hello to COinFL, Seeking, Feisty and The Gang...
armurray: No, that was the compromise offer that *Obama* made, raising it from the $250k the Democrats originally wanted. Everyone thought that Boehner *might* agree to that compromise, but then instead he tried his "Plan B", for which he could not get support in his own party. It's a good offer, but Boehner has ignored it, because he's afraid of offering *any* tax increase. Which is silly, because now we're ALL gonna get tax increases!
As a point of clarification,
In the most recent discussions/vote, Boehner agreed to get taxes raised on income of $1million or more (Repubs wouldn't buy it), whereas Obama went from $250,000 to $400,000.
All the Dem supporters on here need to realize one thing. Just as you view the the GOP as uncompromising and want to blame them for this mess, you have to put equal blame on the Democratic side. The Dems want to say everyone has to have a tax increase, unless we can tax the rich more. The right says no one should have a tax increase.
Here's an idea, pass a bill that keeps everyone's taxes at their current rates permenantly like both sides want, execept build in a provisino that those making incomes over $250k will have their taxes increase in three months provided that the same amount of new revenue generated by the tax increase is accompanied by spending custs form any part of the government. But those spending cuts must be specified in the bill and not a promise to be enacted at a future date.
First, the Bush tax rates were a mistake, and should have never been voted in.
Second, the Republicans will NEVER vote to raise taxes - so they will wait till the Bush tax rates expire.
Third, The Democrats have no reason to avert the fiscal cliff - they get the end of the Bush tax rates and then they will get help from Republicans to pass a TAX CUT for most Americans.
Fourth, the GOP will get the blame for not compromising, and will lose the house in 2014.
That is the way it is going to happen, and there's nothing that can be done about it. The only question is, how much will the American middle class have to suffer for this?
As for Boehner - he can't go against the tea party and remain speaker. He will wait till the cliff comes, and he has his speakership, and then will negotiate. If he doesn't, we will see history repeat itself and the GOP will hold less than 25% of the house and senate.
Americans who voted for the GOP in the 80's and 90's had a good reason to do so. Those who voted GOP from 2000 to 2012 were just on the party bandwagon and not thinking.
Finally, - who is Grover Nordquist, and what @#%^&%#@ing right does he have to any part in this discussion? That alone should make someone vote Dem over Republican.
Someone, ANYONE!!! Take a leadership role, put together a proposal and vote on the darn thing. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Here's my suggestion: Set the tax relief cap at $450K, Extend Unemployment for a specific period of time, i.e., 26 weeks or whatever it currently is until the unemployment rate drops to 7%. Remove the AMT on everyone, since we are seeing a tax increase on upper wage earners anyway. EVERYONE should see a tax increase of .01% (just to be fair).
Cuts to be made: All subsidies to companies with a net profit of over $5M are cut 100%, companies earning $2.5 million in net profits, will be cut 50%. Cut military spending by 10% but not towards VA or other services that provide medical care for veterans. No cuts to social security or medicare beneficiaries, but those programs will be reviewed and fraud waste and abuse will be addressed. Any person convicted of such fraud waste and abuse will be fined a minimum of $250K plus the amount over $250K that they stole from the government. Jail time of at least one year required for anyone who stole over $250K.
There we go, that should be a good start on "fixing" the problem.
armurray - the Republicans are in a pickle because they have pledged their loyalty to Grover Norquist - not the American people. If they did the right thing instead of acting as traitors, we would not be in this mess!
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Hairy "Pappa Smurf" Reed is probably $hittin bricks!
He may actually have to play Senator for once.
His typical "Dead on Arrival" or "Table It" answer to all the proposals by the Republicans won't work anymore. He will actually have to dust off his "How A Bill Is Passed" handbook that he has ignored since 2007.
We suffered through the limp-wristed Liberal/Progressive cabals nonsense last August that caused us to have our envied credit rating lowered for the first time ever. Unfortunately the Libbies wanted that to happen to weaken our great Republic for Barrack Husseins "fundamental transformation" of America into the nanny state he so worships.
When a president promotes mediocrity by telling Americans the best they can be is middle class, you know the agenda is well on its way.
Statists believe that only the Ivy League faculty lounge elitists should have and control the wealth because the unwashed masses are incapable of managing their own lives. And of course the indoctrinated lemmings believe it and worship that disgusting ideology.
Wouldn't it be nice to hear Barrack Hussein promote success, independence, ambition and American exceptionalism?
Of course he won't. Being an anti-colonialist and promoting his class-warfare/envy meme will continue and the Left will just kneel and submit to his pathologic narcissism.
This is what happens when we allow Progressivism to pollute the weak minded useful idiots that believe in the "Life of Julia" nonsense. When you add the convoluted belief in the irrational social and economic justice propaganda our great Republic will collapse.
We can only hope that the Conservatives maintain their common sense approach to reduce the size of our out of control government and the waste, fraud, abuse and corruption it breeds.
Let the fiscal cliff and sequestration happen.
Remember, America promotes equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.

Negotiate with who? Last summer the President and the Speaker of the House negotiated a $1.4 trillion debt reduction package as part of the deal to raise the debt limit, and the House Republicans rejected it. Instead they kicked the can down the road, creating the Fiscal Cliff with the expectation they could use the forthcoming crisis to elect a Republican President. Now Boehner can't get his own party to pass his Plan B, designed to create the appearance that it's President's fault for going over the Fiscal Cliff. What's the point in negotiating with someone who has no ability to enact whatever concessions he is able to obtain. The Republican-controlled House is clearly dysfunctional. The Republican strategy of obstruction designed to further their top priority of ensuring that Obama is a one term President is a miserable failure, yet they are unable to abandon it or take any action for the good of the country for fear that it will be seen as a "victory" for the President or the Democrats. They will surely pay the price in the Congressional elections in 2014. Heaven help us until then.
Да товарищ!
I think the only reason Boehner is smiling is because he just wants to show his boner off! This guy and all his folloers are worthless!
JimSpence - when you post words like "limp wristed" it says soooo much about you. You are probably still in the closet so you try to throw everyone off by constantly putting people who are brave enough to be themselves down.
Your continued stupidity is shown in every hate-filled and ignorant post you make. You are a pitiable person.
Instead of trying to post anything resembling facts you do your nasty putdowns of our President. You truly are a sick excuse for a man!
someotherguy - exactly. Boehner negotiates then can't lead his party to follow then they complain about the President. Budget cuts were part of the deal he worked out with President Obama as were tax increases on those making more than $400,000. This is a deal everyone SHOULD have been able to get on board with.
But, Grover Norquist pulled his strings and the rest of the Republicans caved. The GOP has become nothing but a party of weaklings who don't make their own decisions - just march lock step with Grover. They are the problem - not the solution!
Sometimes a picture paints a thousand words.
The smirk on Eric Cantor's face just echoes the evil on the faces of the two Republicans sitting on each side of Joe Wilson, the GOP Rep from South Carolina when he shouted "You lie!" at the President.
Take a look at this photo and it will remind you of what disrespect our President and our nation has had to put up with from the Party of NO the last four years. These guys could care less about the looming financial crisis. The only things they care about are their sailboats and beach homes and golden retirement plans which are already nicely supplemented by Big Corporate Business.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/10/congressman-yells-lie-obama-speech/
This photo was in Fox News and quoted John McCain saying how totally disrespectful these guys were. So you know it must be bad if they are calling it that, too.
Paws, it is BOTH a revenue AND spending problem. What are the ongoing costs of two unfunded wars? What? The Iraq war is over? May be, but we will be paying ongoing cost of that for decades. And staffing the worlds largest embassy on top of that. How about cutting subsidies to the oil companies? And lets not forget the military guarding the nation provides in the mid east shipping channels. Someone has to be paying for this. And of course, the consumer always pays the 100% of everything in the end. That is why those under a certain threshold should keep the Bush era tax cuts, for a little longer. They are the true job creators. They spend nearly all their income and many hope to save some for retirement. SS doesn't cut it for most. The money in the Caymans and Swiss accounts do nothing. It is time for those over that threshold pay what...3.6% more rate. Not many of those pay as much as I really think you do. You may be a millionaire, I don't know but you have plenty of time to troll these boards. We need to raise the capital gains tax and impose a 2 cent tax on every stock or future traded. We could also cut $100 million out of defense without weakening our military. Some of that money could be used for a Manhattan style program to fully develop renewable energy sources. That would save even more sine we wouldn't have to be guarding as many shipping channels for the oil tankers. Pass a law to re-patronize the offshore accounts and give them a pass IF they bring back American manufacturing and even call centers. Apple is beginning to do the right thing. Those are jobs programs. Creating jobs get people off food stamps and subsidized housing. These are a few of the things we could be doing.
The ACA is way too complocated for you to understand so I won't comment on that to you but to ask if you think it is fair that your insurance company charges you for the high cost the hospitals charge them for treating the unnsured for common colds in the ER?
SeekingSanity
Awwwww, c'mon SS, don't get your panties all in a twist, you know what I'm talkin' about.
When I see your buddy Concerned-999 posting his admiration for Boehners "boner", well, you know what I mean. Right?
The only closet is the one you Libbies all climb back into after you get done spewing your hate, anger, racism and bias on these posts.
Try to keep up Spanky.
Hey 1funnygirl, you know what's really funny? Not one of these joke republicans (nor their idiot voters) had ANY problem passing massive deficit spending bills when Bush was signing the legislation.
Unfunded and unncessary wars, a prescription drug bill that increased Medicare spending 47% but was a massive, massive giveaway to for profit health insurance companies and big Pharma, TARP, more and more tax cuts and corporate welfare.... all that stuff was just dandy to republicans... to the tune of $10 trillion dollars. Hint -- that's where our massive debt comes from.
Now, of course, the same republicans that passed all those appropriations don't want to increase the debt limit to pay for what they put on the credit card. Truly idiots.
Seems there is allot the Queen from the South has missed. But she does have her subjects doesn't she?
Since the fiscal cliff is so pressing I wonder which Sunday he told them? They are just republican scum! Bonehead can't get them to vote, but he sure can get them to go home and hopefully come back and do something. Anything! But remember Bonehead told Reid and the President to solve the fiscal problem. Want to bet whatever they have done won't be what these uncompromising idiots want!
I think its time for the people from both sides in the house to kick the tbaggers to the side and get things done without them. The house is very capable of doing it. If the tbaggers think they are honestly gonna get re-elected after this stunt... again... they are on crack! We are not gonna keep going throught this over and over again. And you plan to do it again when it comes time for the debt ceiling talks. You better wise up fellas! You tbaggers already lost some guys..dont you get the hint? The country is not gonna keep putting up with your BS! Its time to do what your getting paid to do ...and that includes learning to reaching across the aisle..like it or not.
Screw you tbaggers. This is our country too and we are sick of you holding a gun to our head just so you can get your way..you were elected to do the work of the people.. not for your own personal interests.....I say ToTal BS and I have had it with you "do nothing" arssholes! If you cant govern then you had no business running for congress. You know this includes doing the business of the country..and that means working with the other side. Do it or get the h311 out. If you intentionally tank the economy of the country for personal political gain you should be charged with treason, permanently removed from office and replaced.
I am so glad Boehner is in the position he is in to hold these liberals in check, they talk about compromise but they only want it for the republicans, fact is the country split 50-50 and we want cuts Not tax increases, spend less of our money not more. Even if it means obama takes us over this cliff, it is all on him, he needs to learn to work with boehner just like reagan had to learn to work with Tip, that is when the country moves forward, when it is my way or the highway like obama has been doing we end up where we are now. And dont raise the debt ceiling at all, cut cut cut save this nation before its too late
PMS is still messing with the Feisty Redheads mind, she don't need a Kotex she needs a bucket.
I saw an interview with Grover Norquist a while back.
His "No Taxes" mantra, he explained, was something he thought of when he was 12 years old. Yep, 12 years old.
He said the whole idea was about branding. That's it, BRANDING.
If Republicans could be the party of no taxes, there would be no confusion about who to vote for on that subject.
Nevermind about governing the country Congress, it's about BRANDING.
No, I'm not making it up.
This is another stall tactic by the speaker of the house. They have no intentions of doing a thing. No matter what the senate does the tparty will be sure to try to squeltch it. If the rest of the repubs keep putting up with their nonsense they deserve to get removed right along with the tbaggers. Boehner could get these people back before sunday if he was serious and we all no it. This is all games and drama. I say fire them all including no spine Boehner. No more caving Obama.
elaine,
Unfortunately, there is gerrymandering.
House elections actually favored Democrats by a couple percent nationally, yet the house is going to be ~233R-202D.
There needs to be some kind of open vote system in place where if Americans are displeased with their political leaders, they can vote them out of office and immediately implement a new election for that position. Basically, these freeloaders shouldn't be permitted to remain in their jobs for the rest of their terms if they are not doing their jobs, there should be some means for Americans to tell them they are FIRED!
SmBusOwner - Don't you people on the left ever get tired of playing the blame game? You blame everyone and everything for the incompetence of President Obama and the Democratic controlled Senate. There have been gerrymandering by both parties for years. As far as Democrats getting more votes nationally is nothing but more of the blame game. Damn the Democrats have the White House and the Senate yet they can't accomplish anything. Obama was elected President not King or Emperor, he has to quit letting his ego get in the way and start leading instead of belittling the Republicans and whining.
Remember it was the Democrats that made the Bush Tax cuts TEMPORARY for everyone. The President, the Senate and the House have had two years to do something, yet they wait for the last minute.
Obama got around 7 million less votes in 2012 than 2008. He got two fewer States in 2012 than 2008, and he received less electoral votes in 2012 than 2008.
Quit cryin and get to work. I am so sick of people who think entitlements are evil and yet whole heartedly support non entitlements. All members of congress recieve non entitlements, you know like free health care, 60+ paid holidays, 3 weeks of paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days, ridiculous pensions for serving one term. Of course that was a bipartisan vote of yes straight across the board. I earned my entitlements. You stole your non entitlements. GODDAMMIT GET TO WORK!!!
tom, I wish she would just go ahead and bleed out. Khan, there is a system, you just don't like it. Too bad we have checks in place to prevent any one ideology from taking over. Those checks help protect those of us in the minority at the time. You'll appreciate them in a few more years. This ride cant last forever.
It's interesting that the Republican pundits have switched to the latest Frank Luntz talking point: "we don't have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem" or, alternatively, "raising taxes on the rich will not make a dent on our debt; we need to cut spending."
Before anyone here is even tempted to buy into this pathetic excuse for not extending the middle-class tax cuts, let me point out a few things:
1. One dollar in deficit reduction through spending cuts makes exactly the same contribution toward reducing our debt as one dollar in deficit reduction through revenue increases. Our debt isn't originated from spending alone OR revenues alone, it's the GAP between the two that generates debt. Anyone who knows caveman-level arithmetics will be able to understand that if you want to decrease the difference between two numbers by a certain magnitude, you can change the minuend OR the subtrahend OR both to achieve the desired result. There is nothing arithmetically better about achieving deficit reduction through spending cuts than including revenue increases. To say that we have a spending problem, then, is to paint an inaccurate, incomplete, and subjective picture of things. The most accurate and objective phrasing of our problem is, "we have a deficit problem."
2. The more mathematically able Republicans may understand point (1), but they allege that the proposed revenue increases will do nothing to alleviate our debt problem. Instead, they insist, the way to meaningfully address our debt is through sending cuts. The problem with their argument is that they're insinuating that spending can feasibly be cut on levels much, much greater than the proposed revenue increases. Given that about $1.2 trillion in revenue increases have been proposed, how much exactly do you think can be cut from spending that makes $1.2 trillion look meaningless? $6 trillion? $10 trillion? If so, point to us how exactly you can cut $6-$10 trillion in spending without (a) upsetting our economy deeply, (b) hurting those who are already hurting the most, (c) not further accelerate the growth of the gap between the rich and the poor, (d) not cut military spending to the bone, and (e) not make wildly unpopular, big cuts to entitlements?
3. Most importantly, repeat with me: DEMOCRATS ARE NOT OPPOSED TO SPENDING CUTS. Democrats just want revenue increases along with spending cuts. Democrats do not want revenue increases alone. Stop blaming Democrats for your own failure to compromise. Democrats have offered enough compromises. The fact that we don't have single-payer healthcare is a big enough compromise on the part of Democrats to offset every single compromise Republicans might make for centuries to come. Your "me, me, me" attitude, your "every man for himself" philosophy has cost this country enough lives. Stop insinuating that it's Democrats who need to compromise.
Gr8Dem
Hmmmm, OK I won’t embarrass you by trashing the rest of your tortured nonsense, but I will challenge you on these two issues.
As far as Medicare Part-D I think you copied and pasted the wrong information that was given to you by Debbie Whatsername Slutz. I know you didn’t research this claim, otherwise you would have seen how ignorant it is.
Medicare Part D is the most cost-effective program within the federal health insurance programs and a good deal for taxpayers. Estimates by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office indicate that Part D's price to the public will come in at 46% less than initially estimated for the first decade.
In fact, Part D is saving the entire Medicare program money, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Improved access and adherence to medicine is saving $1,200 per year in hospital, nursing home and other costs for each senior who previously lacked prescription drug coverage, according to the study. This is saving the Medicare program an estimated $12 billion each year.
It’s a good deal for seniors too because they are paying less out of pocket for their prescriptions. The total average out-of-pocket prescription drug costs dropped between 13% and 15% thanks to the creation of Part D.
Medicare Part D plans are available for as little as $14.80 per month in most States.
The competitive-based Medicare Part D program is working and should be used as a model for reforming other elements of federal health care programs. Medicare Part D enrollees are overwhelmingly satisfied with this program. A recent Medicare Today survey reported that 84 % of seniors are satisfied with the program.
Hmmmm, for all the complaining all you limp-wristed libbies keep doing about the cost of mean old Bush’s Medicare Part-D maybe you should let the Republicans do more Health Care Reform. They seem to create cost-effective programs rather than economy destroying ones like Obamacare.
Now, as far as your preoccupation for Big Pharma you may want to read this excerpt from <GASP> The Huffington Post about Barrack Husseins sell out to the pharmaceutical companies.
I’ll just give you the introduction of the article, you can read up the rest on your own. If you do read anything that is.
OH NOOOOOOOOOO! Your boy-toy Barrack doesn’t want to lower the costs of medications, he just wanted their alleged support to make you Libbies feel good about his massive redistribution of wealth via Obamacare.
Here’s the link from HuffPo:

Try to keep up Spanky.
Clear proof that it doesn't require intelligence to get elected. As if anyone needed it.
We extend our gratitude for you being the "point girl"!
Even if you are a "spitter"... lol
Remind us again WHO is forcing you to participate?
What's Obama's and Harry's excuse for knowing the Bush tax cuts were scheduled to expire in 2013 and not doing something sooner?
Should they not bear accountability for their inability to get the economy moving enough so that people did not have to be on unemployment most of the first term - including two years total majority?
Their incompetence and failure to be leaders have contributed greatly to this situation.
Harry Reid and Barack Obama - Abject Failures - Blamers - Clueless
Stop the pure insanity of Washington spending - now
Don't cave
Brilliant!
you have some serious pent up sexual aggression. You are a Criminal Minds episode waiting to happen
Caesar that old broad hasn't gotten laid in decades.
going off the cliff...makes me think of the commerical...i've fallen and i can't get up...the idiots we elected are no more than the scum of the earth...spend more than ya make ...sh!t happens...
So says First Reads very own "fluff girl"...
Talk about PROJECTION! lmao
Don't like it here, who the hell is physically forcing YOU to participate?
Sorry NewsforDumbFux shut down your litter box! ;o)
Shady Rob 64
i know.. it likes to refer to others as girls or talk about male genitals or calling someone a "pussy" or along those lines. but im on 'ignore' according to Red Dawn, eh Feistsky

Well you gotta give those Republicans one thing, when you buy a tea-bagger congressman, they stay bought.
Best part is a delusional, impotent, little @!$%# like YOU, has NO power to do anything!
Ain't democracy grand, dumb@!$%#?
Meanwhile, I will sit back and laugh my ass off everytime I see you running around with your follicles on fire... ;o))))
4 more glorious years for you to wimper and piss yourself! LMAO
tough words hiding behind a firewall and on First Read where the Moderators do not Monitor and I assume beyond their doing. Hey Feisty lets see you get away with this anywhere else on the vine. Yeah i didnt think so
Caesar Augustus-
Caesar, you’ll find a lot of that on Liberal/Progressive blogs. They have an almost unhealthy preoccupation for genitals.
Their incessant use of “teabaggers” in an attempt to be witty or cute is most revealing. It’s a shame they don’t understand when they call someone a teabagger it implicates them as the teabaggee.
teabaggee: (n) A liberal that likes to suck the testicles of Conservatives, Republicans or TEA Partiers. They usually ask for it by calling any of the above a "teabagger".
You can also see their obsession for that lifestyle with comments like Concerned-999 (post #1.73) posting his admiration for Boehners "boner".
This is common here and on other sites such as Huff-N-Puff Post, MenialMatters and others.
It’s a sad commentary but you just have to work your way around their pubescent intellect.
Shady Rob . . .
I'd suggest you upgrade. My version does not show anything as collapsed on FR or NBC politics. Maybe they just like me more .... who knows?
Its the continuing obvious insider alliances, FRH is always first to post. MSNBC continues to show their biased connections...
Enjoy your version of reality folks - it will all crash and burn...
As far as Washington is concerned - it was obvious the politicians want the "law" to force the cuts and tax increases so that no one is at fault except everyone of them in office. So here we go over the cliff... Its a popularity contest versus a government leading the country. I blame the President most of all as he is elected to lead... Zero, zip, nada leadership from Obama on the deficit - in fact the opposite (all Obama wants is more taxes which will only cover a minor portion of his increased deficit spending). Obama wants more money and more control whereas the government continues to overspend (the last four year the deficit has been the largest in history - look at the facts not the BS in DC).
Game over folks - the economy will crash and inflation will reign in order for the government to pay its debts. Simple! To pay the debt, print more dollars...hence inflation. Simple facts folks... Hold on here it comes... Remember Carter?
History will show Obama the novice in the White House... "The buck stops here." Obama wants this heritage yet he has no clue how to do it other that spew BS and blame so he can remain popular... Historic leaders lead the country through unpopular challenge to make us better in the end. This is not what DC is even close to understanding today... The motives in DC remind me of high school.
FRH is hook line and sinker to the BS and can not tell anyone how the deficit will be closed. She can not tell anyone how the economy will improve. She can only hope for a future, spending our children's income all the while...
NO!!! Dumb@!$%#!
My power is at the voting booth!
It is only going to get worse for you & your ilk... Mark my words... LMAO@U.. loser!
Gonna be a long 4 years for asswipes like yourself, tell me what are YOU going to do when Hillary is elected in 2016?
By all means, do continue to carry on with your lack of intellectual curiosity and knee jerk reactions, US limp wristed liberals do so love a good laugh!
Now back on our knees... BOY!
Shady Rob 64
Thank you.
I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.
Feisty -- have you forgotten your Psychotrophic Meds. again? We have to remember that the Democrats had the Majority of BOTH Houses of Congress for 6+ years BEFORE the Republicans got the Majority. The Democrats lost the Majority because of what we are seeing now. The Democrats are true to their Motto - TAX & SPEND DEMOCRATS. You can not tax yourself out of debt. Like a household or business you have to cut spending in order to balance the books. The Senate & O'Bama have refused to even discuss options with the Republican House - the Democrats are saying "Take my offer because there will be no discussion". When the cliff hits, Democrats & Republicans will feel the hurt. Illegals are the only group not affected because the Democrats & O'Bama already give them everything free. Republican Tax payers WILL REVOLT if O'Bama continues his Socialist Agenda. The Democrats complaining the loudest are the deadbeats that pay very little if anything in taxes and get everything free thanks to O'Bama's increased unfunded Entitlement Programs. To all you deadbeats out there, regardless of what happens when the money runs out, it's gone and you will actually have to do something if you want to live because there will be no more handouts. I hope that O'Bama is unable to complete his full term because we will have open revolution in this country before his next term ends. O'Bama Class Warfare Strategy will come back and be his downfall. He will be the target of the Revolution that is brewing.
For WHAT?
Us limpwristed lefty liberals wipe our asses with his garbage!
First clue being, quantity doesn't equal quality... lmao
Get back to us, when you manage to find your balls... little man...
The President flies back early from Hawaii to deal with the problem, the Senate is already in DC to deal with the problem and Bonehead tells the House not to return till Sunday. Doesn't that tell you something about the republican DO NOTHINGS! The republican party is a pile of scum!
Warning! Liberal Post!
For all of you bitching and moaning about spending cuts, have you forgotten about the BCA? That little thing that Congress wanted (and Ryan voted for), the President signed (knowing it was a bad idea) and Congress wanted to get back to so they could play hard ball? Well, guess what, the lazy asses never picked their ball back up and now those spending cuts are coming into play as is everything else Congress conveniently forgot. The payroll tax extension should be kept in place. Does everyone forget about that? The effect of that little thing is IMMEDIATE. All working Americans will feel that little hit come their first paycheck in 2013.
This "Boehner" sequester is going to cost this country jobs. Quite a few. If Cantor replaces him, it will be his mess as well.
http://bipartisanpolicy.org/projects/budget-control-act
I'd suggest the WRNJs get off of their Fox talking points and read about what their wonderful Congress has ALREADY done to screw this country.
Quit bitching about the President and the Cliff ... Boehner is conveniently re-directing his sheep away from the BCA that he wanted.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
KABOOOOOOOOM!!!!
And another little Liberal/Progressive alleged brain implodes.
Nothing pleases me more to see the rabid intolerance, anger, hate, racism and vitriol of the limp-wristed Libbies exposed so blatantly.
Jim I am all too familiar with the 'tolerant' left and even further of Red Dawns name calling. this was last week from Feisty
and to think she kisses her azz with that mouth
Keep it up guys, Feisty is in Fine Form tonight LOL... watch her have a coronary
um um um racist...racist...
Too much Thunderbird Feisty, go drink some coffee and sober up
What a crock of crap from Boehner. Like the down-to-the-wire debt debacle, the TeaTards are being flown back to Washington at the tax payers expense, and for what? To stage a PR stunt! The Senate passed their bill a long time ago on behalf of the middle class, but Boehner tries to spin it as if the ball is in the Senate's court.
Too late -- The majority of Americans know Boehner and the House have tried to protect the richest 2% and it is their failure alone. Don't even try with the false equivalency!
Anyone who falls for this crap from Boehner deserves the Do Nothing obstruction and gridlock thanks to Teapublicans. Throw them out in 2014 and keep them out until they represent the majority of the American people.
And another Dumb@!$%#, can not comprehend the election results!
By all means little buddy, get down on your knees and give the delusional shady one a break!
Keep typing you closeted HOMOPHOBE! lmao
You guys are cracking me up!
so he got re-elected not crowned...dumf*ck indeed. perhaps you can break down what being Elected President means. Come on you can do it.
what? so you are gay? That would explain your male hating, bitter rage attitude
I'm embarrassed for a little man living in his Mommy's basement who manages to jerk one off once a year or so...
The upside is, at least YOU are not impregnating anyone with your defective sperm... lol
It will all play-out just as intended. Obama and the Democrats will get what they wanted and the Republicans are, once again, the bad guys trying to destroy the good life in America.
It's sad that Obama and the Democrats have alienated the Republicans and have mislead so many folks on the issues that are so critical to the future of the US.
Feisty and you have the nerve to report people for breaking the CoH? and call anyone right of Che hypocrites? Perhaps Darwin was wrong after all
Marcus D-4300696 -- "blameless, clueless" ... Look in the mirror. And while you're at it, did you see the article today about jobless claims dropping again?
Get Real... -- "Enjoy your version of reality folks"? Will the GOPee Wee Herman, "I know you are but what am I" silliness never end? Enough with Projection Politics, try to have a little original thought. Everyone knows the rightwing lives in an alternative universe, and why for example they were so certain Romney was going to win.
Shady Rob 64 -- Holy f'n cow, where were you during all the Republican scandals of the Bush/Cheney administration? Oh, that's right, you were so busy trying to rewrite history about the Clintons you missed what a crappy decade they produced. If Hillary runs and wins, I'll tell you what we'll be doing -- Celebrating another 8 years of Teapublicans wondering in the desert!
kkwilson -- Hahaha, "the Republicans are, once again, the bad guys trying to destroy the good life in America." Because they are destroying the good life in America -- now you're catching on. Get yourself a copy of "Who Stole the American Dream" read it and then get back to us.
Medical people, nurses, doctors, EMTs and all, work on Christmas, New Years, birthdays, etc. Congress should have NEVER been dismissed until they settled the "Fiscal Cliff." The so-called "cliff," should never have gotten to the point, it has become a crisis! I am tired of the methods our politicians use to make drama, out of what was once a one line statement and a bang of thew gavel! And yes, it started with the Republicans.
Since I am from Ohio, I promise, I will do all I can to vote John Boehner out of office. It is time to really clean house and he is the biggest dust bunny clogging the progress of our country. LISTEN! The majority has spoken! We endorsed President Obama to do our bidding for us. So get to work. Use a shop vac, a swifter or a fire hose! I do not care! Get this fiscal cliff crap done. Tax everyone who makes $250,000.00 or more and leave Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid alone! If anything should be cut from the budget, take it from the retirement benefits, from the politicians who vote for their own perks!
GOT IT JOHN?
YO FISTY!
Lemme ax you a few questions.
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate God?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate family?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate America?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate the Constitution?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate Capitalism/Free Markets
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate the military?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate our brave troops?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate American Exceptionalism?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate morality?

Why do Liberals/Progressives hate a good education?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate personal achievement?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate success?
Why do Liberals/Progressives hate themselves?
I'll wait for your typically rage filled response.
They never learn "If P then Q" logic. Remember "If you're against the war, then you're against the troops." "If we fight them over there, then we won't have to fight them here." They LOVE fallacious argumentation, especially when it fits on a bumper sticker.
The idiotic one about how taxing the rich won't solve the deficit, therefore cuts in spending are the only way to solve the deficit -- That is mathematical stupidity, hypocritical (because they think ending "ear marks" will reduce the deficit more than taxing the rich -- oh my) AND "throwing the baby out with the bath water" fallacious argumentation. It's Reagan's "government isn't the solution, it's the problem" regurgitated, and it's just as disgusting.
JimSpence -- I don't usually say this, but ah shaddap. Really, seriously, you posted that?
Shady Rob 64 -- Correction, wandering in the desert, though wondering fits too. Thanks for playin'...now run along back to The Blaze or what ever rock you climbed out from...
This president and the way he "runs" the country is a joke. Who the hell is in charge?? He should get off his vacationing ass and push these stupid bastards on both sides to FIX THE @!$%#IN PROBLEM. Maybe these @!$%#heads could actually work TOGETHER to come up with some SPENDING CUTS and a small tax increase on the top 2%. What a worthless POS................
Hey Jim Spence @ 1.142 . . . .
Really???? Seriously??? Is that your Christmas list???
I'm just picking ONE from your idiotic diatribe ...
Let's see .... ummm ... who honored their troops at their party's convention ... can you say the DEMOCRATS? Who works with military families and supports them and assists them ... can you say the FIRST LADY?
Good Lord but you need to get a life!
Sorry but had to cherry-pick another one ...
We don't. And without progressive liberals in your life and voting accordingly, you'd still be stuck in the 1950s which is right where Mittens & Co. wanted to take you back to.
You might think you're winning a "word" war. But son, your party has LOST the battle.
TruePatriot-445959
Yeah, why?
Is it too much for you Libbies to read?
I know, I know, you Libbies don’t like to read a lot. We saw that first hand when you forced the Health Care Redistribution of Wealth Hoax on the American people.
NOBODY read it, but Hairy Reed and Nanny Piglosi passed it anyway. Now the country realizes what a disaster it really is.
Hey, did you know that there’s a marriage penalty in PPACA?
Yeah, two unmarried persons earning $32,000 each ($64,000 total) would pay a maximum combined $5,684 in premiums, but if they got married, they would pay about $15,000.
Oh wait, what am I saying, you Liberals never work. At least not at any meaningful jobs.
Never mind.
It was only a matter of time before our resident DUMB-ASS's true colors shined though....
Here's an idea, why don't YOU AX yourself? Dumb@!$%#?
I actually feel sympathoy towards you and your iditot buddy above.... It HAS to hurt being as brain dead as YOU two dudes!
So, take your "ax" and hit the unripe melom on your head....
Shady Rob ...
Are you kidding me? YouTube calls the shots? The Seals needed reinforcements in Benghazi? Since it's on YouTube and so reliable ... why don't you tell us which General called for reinforcements from the Navy Seals and didn't get it. Sources please.
Apparently Congress doesn't need to have any hearings, they just need to come to your basement to view your own personal conspiracy theories.
Notice they all have sort of a smile, HELL We would smiling to if We didn't have to work and get paid what these POS gets, the first thing done to fix our economy is cut all their pay in halve, second is cut their entilements & Health care. These idiots need to know how it feels to pay for something and have a bunch of MORONS constantly trying to screw with it.
Shady Rob,
Totally inappropriate for this site. You should be kicked off and receive some kind of help.
Shady Rob 64 ...
Seriously? A YouTube video is going to sway someone's thoughts? Let's just roll back to the 50's when T V was all truthful. Cite a source. Quit telling me what you "think" should have/could have/would have.
All of you crazy RWNJs - I'm sure the Republican party would distance themselves from you as fast as they are running from Mitt now. They aren't embracing your last President either.
Mitt LOST. Your entire campaign with Mittens was based on the fact that he would repeal everything President Obama had done.
MITT LOST. It's not going to happen! Your BS hate-filled posts aren't going to make it happen either.
Call me what you'd like, I've heard it all before .... in the meantime, get a grip, GROW UP and do something other than sit and spew hateful keyboard rants!
How about the NRA rather than Obama. When a person is drowning you don't throw more water on them. You don't throw more guns out there either. I loved Obama's comments and they were appropriate for the situation not your joke which is right wing sicko!

Rob, Needs help!

Let's see....ummmm.... who spit on us and called us babby-killers when we returned from Vietnam?
Your photo-op moments don't mean $hit to real Americans. Your pathetic attempt to appear concerned is disgusting. Go tell it to Barrack Hussein, just make sure he knows how to pronounce corpsman first.
BTW, do you think Moochelle will still be proud to be an American when she can't fly around and party on the taxpayers dime?
Hmmmm, funny isn't it?
You limp-wristed Libbies vilify the 50's but then turn around and wish that things like $40 per hr. jobs for unskilled and untrained Liberals were back. That unions were as strong as those days.
It's a shame you don't move up a decade and promote JFK's, "Don't ask what your country can do for you".
You've come a long way Libbies.
You should be ashamed.
T'was two nights after Christmas,
And all through the House,
Not a creature was working,
Not even this souse...
Shady Rob 64 1-137
You're exactly right......in the eyes of many on this forum, Obama can do no wrong. If he "broke wind" they would admire the aroma.
JimSpence ...
F you and the horse you rode in on. Living with a vet who actually served and LOVES this country and doesn't play country by sitting at a keyboard but rides with those who do and stand up to people like the Westboro church. F you. F you. F you!
Hells Angels would stand up and ride against SCUM like you! CBA would as well.
Regardless of what happens, at the end of the day, Obama and Boehner will still both be piles of dog sh!t, as will Reid, Pelosi, McConnell and most of the rest of them. Only the blind idiots will say "it's the other guy's fault", and not be objective enough to understand it's their guy's, (or gal's) fault as well. That's why I haven't been able to bring myself to vote for any incumbent for a decade now.
Only a stupid fool votes for their career politician, but blames someone else's career politician.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
Awwwwww, wazza matter Fisty, did I insult your insensibilities?
Is "ax" off limits in your dysfunctional politically correct little world? Am I a racist now? Is that all it takes to bring out your hate, rage and anger? Do ebonics bother you if a white person uses them?
Why are you so shallow all your life?
JimSpence ...
Stupid keyboard COWARD!
Why don't you stand up and state what you truly believe rather than posting your constant BS!
I RARELY lose it on these boards but you, sir, are nothing but an armchair wanna be. DISGUSTING! The men and women that serve for this great country certainly don't want you waving a flag when they arrive home. They certainly appreciate those of us that vote for disable vets, work for fair pay for vets, and donate to their causes.
You are the shallow one. Lower than whale @!$%#.
JimSpence, if there is one great remaining unsolvable mystery of the Universe ...it is how you repeatedly, on a daily basis, flagrantly and boldly violate all of the rules of Newsvine to which you agreed to abide ... and do not get banned? Civility, the great unknown.
"Curiouser and curiouser?" cried Alice.
Feisty said: "And another Dumb@!$%#, can not comprehend the election results!"
The results were he won the Presidency. It does not mean that his is now the sole ruler, dictator, or king. I know that's what he and all of his trolls like you want but sorry, he's just the President, and he continues to do a lousy job.
If we continue on Obama's path we'll be a country in shambles. All he talks about is "tax rates" and what needs to be discussed is spending cuts.
I believe that you are the Dumb@!$%#.
Layton-3733410
KABOOOOOOOM!
Another spineless Liberal brain implodes.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Lay down Layton. Nothing pleases me more than to see another dysfunctional limp-wristed Libbie go postal.
Where is your "tolerance" Layton? Where is your "civility"? You Libbies wouldn't know exceptionalism if it kicked you in the balls.
Go away Spanky, you're insignificant.
Good luck, Boehner, in getting your own people in the House to cooperate. Your Tea Party members are adamant in their refusal, and said they truly want the nation's economy to, "crash and burn," just to prove to you and everyone else, who's the boss.

Go away Robbie. You're becoming more and more insignificant also.
I've read the pure filth and profanity that comes out of the mouth of Fisty, Bev and all the other Neanderthals that pollute these threads. You can take your Chicago thugocracy and give it to someone who cares.
Your pathetic submission to a statist faculty-lounge elitist proves your dysfunctional upbringing. Doesn't it bother you Libbies that Barrack Hussein promotes mediocrity instead of the American Dream? Don't you aspire to be more than just middle-class? That's all your boy-toy Barrack wants you to be. You willingly submit to a man whose biggest accomplishments in life were putting on a few picnics in Chicago as a community organizer and wrote a couple books, about himself.
And now you wonder why he can't even pass a simple budget. Stop worshipping a man and start achieving something for yourself and your country.
That's what real Americans do.
Jim Spence,
I am sure you are laying on the floor rolling around and laughing your a$$ off. I do have more balls to be kicked in. So much more so as I'm female and have more than you. That and I don't "roll" on a floor.
That is your agenda. Nothing for your country. Just to get a rise out of someone else ...
Exceptionalism ...
You're correct. This time and age is exceptional. Mostly because people like you are allowed to voice your hatred of others without someone coming over and whipping off your white hat and shroud. I've lived through the experiences and I would so gather I'm older than you to have formed a better opinion of this country. Your posts are nothing but hate-mongering diatribes that make you feel better because of your very low opinion of your self.
Roll around on your floor. Laugh. Be proud of making others upset. Those that have feelings for this country get up and move and shake things up and make things happen.
That's what real Americans do.
You are nothing more than a Honey-Boo-Boo wanna be. Looking for you 15 minutes of red-neck grotesque fame. You got your one minute from me. Never again.
Coward.
Why would anyone waste one moment hating something that doesn't exist?
I know many liberals. I am one. We love our families. Your talking point is a silly one.
I know many liberals. I am one. We love our country. Your question is a silly one.
I know many liberal. I am one. We love the constitution. Even your right to bear arms if you feel you need to in order to defend yourself.
I know many liberals. I am one. They are intelligent, entrepreneurial business minds. They generally have far greater wealth than conservatives.
I know many liberals. I am one. We love the military. We don't necessarily like expensive, unproductive military missions, but the military itself, though bloated, is a great American strength.
See the answer above.
What does that even mean? I'm sure it's a great bumper sticker, but before that nebulous question can be answered, it should be defined.
Whose morality? Larry Craig's? Foley's? Crapo's?
Justice? Do you mean like the execution of bin Laden?
Interesting question coming from a slavish follower of the party that believes God makes it rain, the female body rejects rape, the earth is 6000 years old and that evolution is a trick of the devil straight from the depths of hell.
Interesting question from a slavish follower of the party that believes that colleges are for snobs and that universities are liberal indoctrination centers.
Personal achievement? Like the First African American President? We love that stuff.
I'm a liberal. I'll match W-2's with anyone on this board. I love success.
If we hated ourselves, we wouldn't post. We think we're wonderful. And what we have to say is so compelling, it needs to be placed on public forum.
No rage here Jimmy.
You still hiding behind your 13 your old daughter, you principled, self loving, man of God?
To all you who are bashing others for their opinions: I haven't been on a board for awhile because I got tired of all the personal bashing going on. Now, my first trip back, I see that it's still going on! I can only conclude that too many people are incapable of conducting themselves in a civil manner and actually have a meaningful discussion. It can be very seductive to bash someone personally for their opinions when you strongly disagree with them. I fell victim to it a few times in the past. But then I realized what I'd turned into and didn't like either the sight or smell. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before: If you don't like it, don't read the boards. If you don't like it, just ignore them. etc., etc., etc. Some posters learned nothing -- which was demonstrated by their attacking me for stating my opinion! And I expect to get some personal attacks this time, too. Sad! Sad! Sad! That's ok, though, because I won't be back to read them.
Love it,
I'll be joining you come January 1st. My resolution.
It's fun to rattle a cage now and again, but, ultimately, it's a waste of time. No opinions ever change. If folks weren't solidly entrenched in their opinions, they wouldn't comment here in first place.
There is so much more to accomplish. Use your time wisely.
Vaya con dios, mi amigo.
A more accurate list of what we liberals hate:
-Fundamentalism
-Inequality
-Social injustice
-Government intrusion into personal lives
-Government neglect of the needy
-Government catering to those who don't need to be catered to
-Violence, physical and verbal
-Racial division
-Indifference
-Superstition
-Putting the interests of the few above the interests of society as a whole.
Westward, “Ho’ ”
It’s time to issue a clarion call.
Westward, westward you must go, to the land of half term governors, the land toward which the action of the sea is directed, a state that has the distinction of being the easternmost, westernmost and northernmost, (giving you three directions to brag about, unlike ”The South“), a land as big as two thirds of the continental United States. Yes, take your trailer off blocks and gas up the S.U.V.; Alaska is calling you.
Alaska,
a land of untrammeled wilderness, where reality television stars rape the land with hapless grins on their mirthless faces. Alaska, where every variety of game is available for you to unload your weapons upon with the rapacious glee of an amphetamine crazed wolverine. (And they have wolverines, though how much meth they use, I know not.) Alaska, where if you have the virgins, they have the volcanoes. Alaska, where multi-national corporations are waiting to employ YOU with their schemes to utterly destroy every eco-system that might have a penny of resources in it. And hey, don’t forget, Alaska will pay you if you can live there for 366 days and every year after that. Don’t go Galt, dig Galt’s gulch in Alaska.
Yes, that star of the north; “North to the Future” is their motto and what a glorious future you could take part in! Spending long summer days organizing militias to stop those communist Russkies and spending long winter nights rewriting the Constitution until it finally agrees with the Book of Revelations. So take your Confederate flags and your Gadsden banners and plant your standard in Alaska.
Head on up
, and leave the heavy lifting of economic and social change to us down here. We’ll try to let you stay as backwards as you want to be, with minimal intrusion. Hell, I’ll bet when enough of you are up there, Canada will be more than happy to build a border wall for you, since everyone knows how fond you all are of those.
From Fish Hook to Funny River, Kalifornsky to Kipnuk, Moose Creek to Meadow Lake (and let‘s not forget fabulous Wasilla), the siren song of Alaska beckons. So do yourself and everybody else a great big favor, and start the migration now. Westward, “Ho’ ”!
P.S. Take the Republican party with you, they won’t be missed. Oh yeah, and Ted Nugent, please!
A call to all the sufferers of Obama Derangement Syndrome, with their tri-corned, tin foil hats nestled snuggly upon their heads, who believe that F.E.M.A. death camps are being constructed across the nation waiting to sweep them up for their “patriotic” beliefs. A call to all that believe climate change is a United Nations plot to steal their liberty and that the Affordable Care Act is going to add more fluoride to pollute “our precious essence”. Come heed my call.
Gremlins got that post, but you get the gist.
ForePlinger,
Its almost 1:00 am. We can live with a few glitches in the post.
Oh, please! Give us a break from your favored rhetorical buzz phrases.
The 112th US Congress (Jan. 3, 2011 – Jan. 3, 2013) proved to the American people only that it was incompetent and entirely inadequate for the job of governing which the American people hired it to do. For two solid years we have endured flowery speeches and frequent use of the phrase “American exceptionalism” from the leadership of this Congress, while at the same time the American people screaming back at them (using less-flowery language) demanding American common workmanlike approach to their jobs. The only American exceptionalism demonstrated by the Congress was their consistency taking exception to acceptance of any personal responsibility for the present mess which they have made; and of course American, because no other self-respecting nation would have anything to do with this inept bunch of rascals.
If in January 2013 the 113th Congress telegraphs its intent to follow the same path as the last, by reelecting the same leadership, the American people should seize the opportunity to toss-out the entire lot, by demanding that our legislative assemblies of the several states act under the provisions of Article V of the US Constitution to convene a Constitutional Convention, dissolve the US Congress and rewrite the rules of that institution. Only by throwing out the entire lot, and starting over to correct the ills which plague that institution, can the American people reassert the working, living Representative Democratic Republic envisioned and set-in-place by the founders of our once great nation. Founders who could never have envisioned the degree of complete incompetence present today in our nation’s Capitol, but nevertheless had the great wisdom to provide us with the means and method to fix the problem.
Sorry, had to go over to the Huff-N-Puff Post and put a few Liberals/Progressives in their place. Man, they are rabid over there tonight.
Anyway, I can see my work here is done for now. I hope all you little Libbies learned something tonight, I enjoyed schooling you in your deficiencies as real Americans.
As I read the posts from the Liberal Progressives here and on other blogs I realize arguing with them is similar to shadow boxing.
After 15 minutes 2 undeniable truths emerge.
1. I’m tired.
2. I always win.
So with that, I wish you all a good night.
It was your pleasure.
Wow. Jim Spence, the guy who said he'd hide behind his 13 year old daughter if he had to face me, "always wins".
I guess it's that kind of delusion that makes one a republican.
bbone!!!!!!!
Nice to see you.
Hey, I showed my daughter your picture after I told her about our discussion.
First she laughed.
Then she simply said, "Nice hat".
I'm not sure, but I don't think it was a compliment.
But you knew that didn't you?
So you didn't call it a night after all? I guess your lies aren't just political.
I wonder if your daughter noticed the family resemblance when she saw my picture.
Give her a kiss goodnight for me.
And you may want to get a DNA test "dad".
That was probably over the top. As much as I think you're a dick, I probably shouldn't have questioned your beautiful daughter's legitimancy. It's none of my business if your wife sleeps around on you.
This is why I signed off of Newsvine in the first place. It brings out the worst in people.
Anyway, Jimmy, take care. Btone signing off for real and for good.
Keep beating heads in. It's therapeutic.
Oh, for God's SAKE!! There's enough childish and disgusting NAME CALLING on here to last a middle school bathroom a freaking lifetime!! Every one of you look and sound like aggravated 3 year-olds. Why don't you go punch a pillow for 5 minutes and give us a break!
ANYWAY! BACK ON TOPIC! I would give ANYTHING to slap that smirk of that jerks face.
America is SPLIT!
OBAMA was not elected DICTATOR OF AMERICA, MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!
The House DID THEIR JOB, the HOUSE PRESENTED THEIR PASSED BILLS TO THE SENATE!
It is the SENATES turn to offer a COMPROMISE!
So simple. Too bad the PRESS CAN NOT PRINT THE TRUTH!

Rog 666,
Obama's comments had nothing to do with religion! He was telling the truth!
There is no 'Fiscal Cliff' - it is a media fiction. All that will happen if Washington does nothing is the tax rates will return to what they were under Clinton, when everyone seems to think they were 'fair'.
I say 'Let Congress do nothing' - then we can have some REAL Deficit reduction. The beauty of this approach is that it requires that Congress and Obama do what they do best - NOTHING.
Here's an interesting observation - While Obama has increased the number of people who get government assistance from about 30 million to about 47 million (Gee, I wonder how many of those 47 million voted for Obama because he promised to keep the 'freebies' coming?), the Labor Participation Rate has fallen dramatically from the historical rate of about 67% under Reagan, Clinton and Bush, to a recent historical low of about 63%. It would appear that about 6 million people have decided "Why should I work when the government gives me free food, medical care and cash aid?"
The Labor Participation Rate is defined as people who are in the working age group that are actually working or looking for a job, and is normally about 67% to 68%.
This might be great politics for the Democrats, but I don't think it's such a great idea for the government to dramatically increase the number of people 'on the dole' - at taxpayer expense.
The only thing that Obama, Boehner and Reid are interested in is POWER... they don't give a rat's rear end about the average American... all they care about is POWER, POWER AND MORE POWER and they don't care if they throw the country under the bus to get it!!
It's really that simple... now put on your bathing suits and let's go over the cliff to the cold waters of recession together!!
Woohoo Happy New Year!!
Oh and don't give me this crap about "it's the republicans fault" or "it's the democrats fault" because
we elected all these jerks and EVERYONE of them is to blame...
No matter which party your from!!
There's my compromise... They are all JERKS!!
Jim Spence, Shady Rob 64,
You can post all the vile, reprehensible, hate filled garbage about liberals that you want. You can call everyone else vile, hate filled names, and lie about their intentions. You can continue to lie, obfuscate, deflect, blame everyone else, and bemoan the fact that liberals exist in the world. Those are your rights.
But . . .
It only shows how truly uninformed, immature, and stupid you are.
I almost feel sorry for Crying Speaker Tan Man. He's in so far over his head it's laughable. He doesn't know if he should wind his butt, wipe his watch, go home or stay in Washington. Meanwhile little boy Eric Cantor is stabbing him in the back and the Republican Party is getting more unpopular each day. But then back in 2010 he invited the tea bag crazies in his tent and now he has to live with them.
"While Obama has increased the number of people who get government assistance from about 30 million to about 47 million"
How about some FACTS Roy. President Obama didn't just wave a magic wand and automatically put ab additional 17 million people on public assistance. Those laws were on the books long before he took office in 2009. The cause of it is not money the President is throwing around, the cause is the BUSH DEPRESSION that we are slowly digging out way out of -- no thanks to any Republican.
The fact is Roy -- adjusted for inflation, you have to go back to Eisenhower to find a president who has asked for less of an increase in federal spending than has President Obama.
I hope no deal is reached and everybody rooting for only one party and being stubborn suffers the most. Everybody, rip open your wallet. That's the price you pay for being piggishly ornery!
ROY WILSON-336103
Roy, the Liberals/Progressives don't care about the taxpayers’ expense. Especially Barrack Hussein. They look at Americans as simply a source of "their" money. They believe that they should take as much of our hard earned money as possible because their delusion is that they can take care of society better than we can ourselves.
All you have to do is watch their little cartoon "The Life of Julia". The lifelong glorification of government involvement in your life. "From the womb, to the Tomb" can't be more obvious than what that insult describes. Barrack Hussein is a thoroughgoing statist, probably the worst in our history, which is saying a lot when in the company of Wilson, FDR and LBJ.
His statist ideology couldn’t be more obvious than when he parroted Elizabeth Warrens nonsensical claim that “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.” Behind this faux sophistication is the typical Ivy League faculty-lounge elitist disdain of business and all those that make more than tenured professors by excelling at it. Behind their smiling faces and feigned support of entrepreneurs is the simple obsession of “You owe us (the government).” This has been exposed during the campaign with the demonization of the successful or rich Americans who drive the largest economy in history. They don’t see entrepreneurs as self-made men or women, rather, it’s someone who got lucky and now isn’t paying his/her “fair share” of taxes.
When Barrack Hussein said, “I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.” As much as this may be true, we should value the dignity of all work, no matter how humble. What they can’t comprehend is that the hallmark of the man of extraordinary accomplishment isn’t simply work. Many of us may work as hard as someone like Steve Jobs did, but few are as driven, single-minded, risk-taking, shrewd or visionary. There are millions of Americans that could work 12 hours a day for years yet never come up with the idea for the iPad, let alone successfully manufacture and market it.
To define Steve Jobs as the product of infrastructure and government services is to devalue the very human creativity that has created all the incredible innovation we see around us. In the convoluted mind of statists Steve Jobs couldn’t get to work without roads, or couldn’t drive safely without a regulated system of driver’s licenses, so the assumption is, the DMV practically built Apple. In the statists irrational mind the way the government rewards his sterling success is to demand he express his patriotism by paying a 39.6 percent top individual tax rate and a 25 percent capital-gains rate.
Barrack Hussein claims “we’re in this together,” and the inspiration for this “togetherness” is none other than the Internal Revenue Service.
His demonization of the successful and promotion of mediocrity is right out of the Cloward-Piven school of social and economic justice. It’s much easier to control the unwashed masses than a Steve Jobs or other successful entrepreneurs. A collective of dependent Americans is much easier to manipulate as they stand in line for their unemployment checks or depend on their disability compensation.
How long have we heard his tortuous assertion that the best that American’s can achieve is to be middle class? His bizarre growth of America from “”the middle out” is as irrational as it is impossible. It’s much easier to promote mediocrity and claim success than to advocate achievement and deal with its occasional failures. The statist believes that the only successful class should spring from academia and a government that nurtures you from conception to cremation. Keeping the aggregate at a barely sustainable level allows the constant and incoherent control of them.
Keeping the masses on the dole allows for more massive infusion of borrowed or printed money in the name of “helping the little guy”. Instead of helping the little guy out of the middle class it’s easier to keep them locked in there and to continuously dangle the fear that ”things could be worse if it wasn’t for the omniscient government.” The fact that none of the “elitists” have ever created commerce is irrelevant. The faculty mentality is, that having read a few books makes you an immediate authority. If you happen to have been so capable as to have written a book you are immediately deified and placed on a pedestal. Practical experience be damned.
With this massive infusion of funds, primarily from outside sources, is of no concern as long as the grip is tightened on the electorate. No better example can be than our total failure in the “social wars.” The wars on crime, drugs, poverty and, most importantly, illiteracy are at best failures and at worst an embarrassment. Most of our social failures are a direct result of the fact that we have been graduating illiteracy from our criminal public education system for decades. The war-on-poverty has been a massive redistribution of wealth for over 47 years with no discernible improvement. A $17 trillion dollar investment into the poverty black-hole and we still have over 14% poverty rates just as we did in 1965. Of course the statists solution is simply more money. Ironically the needed funds have to just keep coming from the productive, through the massive bureaucracy of Big Government, to trickle-down to the disenfranchised masses. As much as they insult “trickle-down, they espouse the very same principle via government largesse. The failure of this delusional thinking impacts the minorities more than anyone, yet they have been indoctrinated into believing that someday, somehow, somebody will save them. And the beat goes on.
Has Barrack Hussein ever suggested that we dramatically improve our education system? Yes, he has given the compulsory rhetoric for college education, but the foundation remains a shambles. Our elementary education system is a disgrace ever since the government took control of it and, again, the typical knee-jerk response is, more money. The fact that we spend more on education than any nation, other than Switzerland, means nothing to statists. More will fix it, someday. We have seen these results, opine the continuing failure and demand more money, this is not unintentional.
Barrack Hussein has no intention of fixing the multitude systemic failures in our economy or social problems. Failure allows more government intrusion as the masses continue to suffer. The class-warfare and envy campaign is not by mistake. Demonizing the rich creates the division we see today and expands the power of government. This is all Barrack Hussein is concerned with. Keeping more and more on the public dole is a well planned and insulting result of voting a statist of this level into the presidency. Progressivism flourishes during a crisis. If there is no crisis, it’s easy enough to create one.
The fiscal cliff is a perfect example of this. Real Americans understand the timing of this crisis. This could have been averted months ago. The claim by the Democrats that this could be solved in a few hours is proof of that. Political posturing, on both sides, ideology and power are the driving forces of this debate. Democrats want to empower more government and keep more on the dole, Republicans want to reduce government and allow the Steve Jobs of America to excel.
Either way, the results will be critical on which direction our great Republic goes. Hopefully the American people demand we create more Steve Jobs and less on the government dole.
Maybe they can cut some more programs out of the budget like "school safety" wait Obama already did.
http://www.washingtonguardian.com/washingtons-school-security-failure
Maybe gun control is cheaper than school security.
JimS: Steve Jobs moved manufacturing to China where he pays $13 a DAY at his factories, but still charges $500 for a phone.
Yah, we need more people like this, YOU WORK FOR $13 A DAY.
Called Stockholder responsibility. Screw society, just maximize that profit. And of course we purchase what ever is the cheapest without regard to the cost to our society. Whaaa, I can't find a job, move to China and live in a cardboard box making $13 a day.
Dav1bg
Oh good grief, you're referencing 'Washington Guardian' to make your point??
Seriously, dude. Have you lost all ability to "differentiate s**t from spaghetti"???
Have you no remaining pride, at all?????
PS. Here's a hot tip for you: I can find an on-line cryptobiology blog which will certify that Sasquatch wears size 35-EEEE Air Jordan's, but I wouldn't cite it as a reference!
President Obama back at work, the Senate also. THE HOUSE YEA!!!! WELL BE BACK SUNDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations, 'Dav1bg'. A quick review of your Newsvine page reveals that you have posted that same bogus 'Washington Guardian' blog article link more than 10-times, ...which has earned you official, permanent "Troll" status. Your sign is in the mail. Wear it proudly.
PS. Here's another hot tip: Despite its popularity among some fringe elements of American society, repeating a lie over, and over, and over, and over, and over again ... does not make it true. Food for thought.
Gee, that's mighty white of the Weeper of the House ... I'm just surprised he's calling his teabaggers back so early! I mean, why not just have the teabaggers come back on the 31st instead of having them sit around, twiddling their thumbs for 24 hours??
The Weeper of the House probably ran out of Jack Daniels and needs something to do to occupy his time ...
They shouldn't have gone home in the first place. You all wanted the job now do it. Reach a compromise.
Well, Crapo didn't very far, drunk tank perferable to the senate chambers, Boehner should have hitched a ride.
Sorry, but in real life time away in introspection is a better thing than continuing to flail at the same problem, the same insufficient way.
I won't be hiring you for my office manager.
Lisa, NO COMPROMISE. Obama has the reins, and he should not compromise. If the Republicans do not vote for Obamas plan, then lets go off the cliff. Obama had better not compromise what he originally proposed or he will hear it from millions of people. Obama campaigned on raising taxes on the Rich, and not the middle class. Obama had better stick to his guns.
Agree they should have never left Alot of our troops could not be home why should the Jerks we voted into the office they hold,, Maybe if the voters had made them stay and work on the fiscal cliff they would have had it solved... We the american people are letting them get away with this BS.. WHY?
dbakron..............
they had a whole year to produce a budget.
I don't get it, I guess. I mean, last year, Boehner engineered this thing. He went off the Simpson-Bowles plan, which, IIRC, was basically slash every single spending category by 20%, then raise taxes back to Clinton levels, and voila - a semi-balanced budget that would theoretically grow into a balanced budget, then produce a surplus; if Congress couldn't agree on a spending deal, the debt ceiling, and taxes by the end of this year.
Boehner put this together. Boehner was crowing, cheering at the top of his lungs about this deal, stating that real financial reform had finally arrived. Now, he's trying to foist the blame off onto everyone but himself?
Didn't he realize what would happen if the partisan gridlock continued and Washington couldn't get anything passed? Was he trying to engineer the fall and make it look like Obama's fault? How's that going for ya, John? Why were you so proud of this nightmare when you made it, but now you want to run and hide (or better, blame the other party) whenever anyone asks why you made it?
Did you really expect something different from our legislators? If you did you were not paying attention to all of us begging you to vote out the incumbents. You got what you voted for no matter what party you are deluded into thinking would make a difference...same goes for the Presidency.
Get ready for a recession on top of the recession we are still drunk on.
Next
No, db. In real life if you can't solve a problem because you refuse to do anything but say no you maybe get lunch. You don't go home and enjoy your holiday for a few days. If my employees took off for a nice long holiday while a big essential project that THEY could have finished last month still sits there waiting they would be unemployed.

OHGuy
I'll second that. They havent earned a cent of it. and they dont deserve the benefits either.
Obama, like all Chicago politicians, will end up in jail.
elaine, I agree as long as you add Obama and Pelosi to your list of negligent politicians.
Well you gotta give those Republicans one thing, when you buy a tea-bagger congressman, they stay bought.
The Moderator of this site MUST BE A DIE HARD DEMOCRAT TO ALLOW FEISTY TO CONTINUE. I have seen others banned by the Moderator for post like Feisty or Banned because they were critical of O'Bama's Total Failure as President. O'Bama is nothing more than the Senate's Unc_— Tom. You know, the House Servant that they can put up front as a sign of the Democrats Diversity in order to get that Ethnic Vote.
On the other hand, O'Bama has his Boy Eric and Ladies Clinton & Pelosi doing his dirty work. Now with Rice & Hilleary out of the picture, the White House Village Idiot Reid is allowed to speak. O'Bama doesn't even allow his Vice-President to speak without minders.

Fisting deadhead with "her" usual idiotic rant. Nothing of substance and no ideas, just blab blab blab.
There are three (3) obvious ways to fix the present problem with Congress:
1). Toss the entire leadership; all of them. Boehner, Pelosi, Cantor, Reid and McConnell ALL need to lose their leadership posts in the House and Senate. They have failed to meet their responsibilities to our nation and to the American people. If any of these rascals are reelected by their Political Party caucuses in January, we will just have two more years of stalemate, obstruction and complete failure to govern ahead. We each need to write to our own state Congressional delegations and demand that they vote for different leadership from among their ranks in January, and select individuals who are proven consensus builders and disposed by personal nature and character to finding compromise.
2). The legislative assemblies of the several states should act under Article V of the U.S. Constitution to convene a Constitutional Convention, dissolve the U.S. Congress - throwing out the entire kit-and-Caboodle of rascals currently 'infecting' those chambers - and rewriting the rules of that institution; fixing the current rules and procedures which are inhibiting the processes of governing, and outlawing all political contributions and outside sources of funding for the support of personal political fiefdoms.
finally, and what just might be the most practical and expedient ...
3). Roll out the guillotines, and park them at the exits from the U.S. Capitol building. Heads rolling down the steps of the Capitol Building may be the only long-term solution for the American people reclaiming the grand Representative Democratic Republic envisioned by the founders of our nation, presented to us by their great wisdom, ... but fumbled by the present pathetic cadre of pretenders in Washington, D.C.
Just my tuppence ...

Yo Jim................... I smell an idiot!
Well said Fiesty
So 59 million made sure that the legislature was divided. That is the power of the vote. Now deal with it. Basically nothing changed. Democratic presidency and Senate and the House remains in the hands of the republicans. You can spin it anyway you want but the bottom line is that is the way it is.
There is no mandate since nothing changed. We gave the President both the House and Senate for two years and it is obvious to me that they did not want that again.
Since most Americans understand how totally dysfunctional our government is with a split legislature I could argue that they are willing to take the cliff rather than spend ourselves into oblivion. You see I have more faith in the American voter than you do. I am sure that this is exactly what they expected and it did not matter who won the presidency.
I hope the President takes the high road and accepts the blame when no compromise is achieved because he is sure as hell going to get blamed for the tax increase. When the workers get their paychecks in January and see what the difference in take home pay is who do you think they will blame. In the real world most don't know who is the Speaker of the House and the only one that they relate to the government is the President.

Political facts are one thing. You being a hypocrite is another topic. What, you can call people names but others can not? Seems pretty lopsided.
I am personally going to make a push for you to receive more "likes" and green stars, as that is what matters most to you to live your life on an imaginary Internet message board, with imaginary people. Being hateful takes so much energy, what gives?
The treadmill is calling, Feisty...go blow off some steam.

You forgot to mention how Jesus himself delivered the Constitution to Washington on Mt. Sinai. I'm pretty sure that was in the bible. Somewhere.
Seriously, do you read how you're salivating all over the memories of the FF? They were a bunch of guys. Smart guys, yes. But they denied every having divine revelation be the basis for the Constitution. In fact, they denied it so vociferously they wrote into the Constitution that divine revelation should be separated from the law. Your kind of worship is, well, personal, but it skeeves the @!$%# out of me when people lionize those guys. They weren't all that great. They were slaveholders, rich men who built their wealth on the backs of others. And they liked the whores (Franklin at least, as Jefferson preferred married women). It's not like they were prophets. They were just really, really smart because they studied HISTORY!
commonsense53 -
See, when you talk about how "most Americans" want a split legislature, you're forgetting a very obvious thing: you're full of it. You see, in this country we call America, we vote for representatives based on districts. One district's people cannot vote for another district's representative. So, unless you're suggesting that the American people got together and all decided exactly who was going to vote for who in order to create this situation, you seriously need to re-take Government and Civics. Go back to school. Also for your complete lack of comprehension that yes, who the president is matters to people. Hence, why they got out and voted.
I find your moniker an apt description. Many people have made the observation that, "Common sense is anything but!" Personally, I've found that "common sense" used in everyday life can be useful. Things like "look both ways," or "keep an eye on your wallet," or "don't stand in a puddle of water while handling electrical wiring." However, when it comes to politics, there is no such thing. When it comes to living with other people, it becomes something of a detriment. When it comes to science, well, just get that @!$%# out of here.
I thought the Republican radical right wing, fundamentalist Christian members didn't work on Sunday. Didn't the good Lord say to remember to keep holy the Lord's day?
Actually, depending on the way it is interpreted ......They Sabbath could/should be Saturday.
He is reconvening on Sunday to declare the session adjourned!
The Senate acted MONTHS AGO and their "bill" is already in the House but not allowed to come to a vote. Mr "Bone R" knows he cannot please his teabaggers, SO MAY BE HE SHOULD WORK WITH DEMOCRATS AND PASS WHAT IS NEEDED FOR OUR FUTURE AND NOT HIS IDEOLOGICALLY RIDICULOUS THEORY'S.
Pinto
"Hint" There are a lot less fundementalists than you would like to believe isn't there. Your point is ridiculously outdated.
DB Akron, well, that might be true outside Congress but we wouldn't know it from the words the republicans speak and the actions they take.
DB -
Um, I think there are a lot more fundamentalists than you seem to be acknowledging. For instance, the entire Tea Party, the Religious Right, hell, in some ways the RCC is going back to more funamentalist bull@!$%#.
For instance, over half the population of the US believes the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. Pretty fundamental to our understanding of history, biology, geology, astronomy, physics, and pretty much every other human endeavor into the sciences. I'd consider each and every one of those people a fundamentalist. Take the bad with the good, man.

Pinto your right it is amazing that the Speaker of the House is letting 35 to 40 Reps run the entire country. If he would work with the middle (Dems and Repubs) and leave the fringes on both sides to whine and complain this whole thing would be over there would be no fiscal cliff, however he is afraid of his own shadow because he knows those 35 - 40 Reps will make sure he comes up against a primary fight he can't win the next time he is up for re-election and that would mean he would have to get a real job. Oh wait no he won't he will just retire on his entitlements as a Federal Employee!!!
When you take off as many day as this congress did, you can count those days as Sundays.
DB Akron, lighten up a little. Pinto was kidding, eh? He/she was just making a little joke.
hhhhmmmm You mean there are no Dems in the House?
What a sucker, to think he had a chance at re-election; no body told him he was the fall guy for those very few, minuet, minuscule, pinch of GOP that want something different than the rest of America, (they weren't even going to blink an eye when they didn't re-elect him, get security)....and his little sheep goes baaaaa
Republicons pledged their allegiance to Norquist and pledged against America...they all should be tried for treason.

Nothing like a steely-eyed magnolia sour puss to spoil the day.
Only someone who is totally clueless about the founding of this nation would believe that the role of the Federal Government should be to confiscate wealth from one individual, and give it to someone else. Stupid, pathetic, greedy, selfish, little fools. Obama is the poster boy for that crowd.
(And for you thin skinned, hyper sensitive, look for anything you can to be offended about, "boy" in this instance is a generic term connected with the word poster. It has NO racial connotations. Idiots.)
Caesar...beware the Ides of march...teabagggers are out to get you....
Wha Wha Whaaaaaaaat ? Government employees working on Sunday ?
Boehner's calling them back Sunday, doesn't mean they'll actually work.
Jody - doesn't mean they'll actually show!
What's the point of coming back the day before a holiday with no deal in sight, I smell a rat.
Don't be suprised if they pull what they think is a fast one.
truth_teller, what makes you think there isn't a deal in the works? These people could be using that new fangled thing called the phone to be discussing a plan. I just like to hold out hope. It is a shame though all that air fare wasted.
Actually they are comming back to make sure obama and the rest of the rat b------s do not pull an absentee type run around the House. The have done it before.
Well, if they refuse (the republicans) to do their jobs, somebody has got to do it for them. It isn't like the republicans have never done that before.
Obama should use his executive powers to declare an emergency and mandate all pay for himself and Congress be frozen until such time a budget agreement is agreed upon. It is in the best general interest of America to sidetrack an avoidable crash of the economy........Never should a minority group of corporate puppets be allowed to hold the American people hostage for the benefit of their puppet masters.
We elected these a-holes to work on behalf of the American people and it is time they start earning their pay...Congress was never expected to function like a law firm where they get paid whether or not they accomplish anything positive.
I am not holding my breath that anything will get done. This is the least productive Congress in decades and possibly ever. To expect them to act now seems kind of foolish. We will go over the fiscal cliff and it will be due to the inablility of Boehner to lead and the Republicans in general for their unwillingness to compromise.
^stick head back in sand, your only half correct
Anyone who is unwilling to spread the blame around some is just too stupid to talk too. Reid and Obama are being just as stubborn and useless.
They gave Obama the 800 billion he asked for, and then Obama changed it to 1.6 trillion. Why not just go for 5 trillion in new taxes? Hell, just take it all. It still won't be enough to pay for what he is spending...
Hey, Boehner... What's the point of calling the Party of 'Hell No' back to work?
to be honest, if you read clear and watch CSPAN you will hear Reid stating that only three dozen are with the bully, most have not even been aloud to show their face let alone do their job and show us some work...
It's all fluff.
They will pass something objectionable, then point the finger at the Democratic Senate when the rubber hits the road.
Cowards.
PS the petition to cut their pay (and the Presidents) 15% has gone over the 25,000 signature limit.
They work part-time, so they should get paid like part-timers - an hourly rate, or a daily rate; and they shouldn't get tax-payer-funded health care either. Selfish un-American jerks.
pay them minimum wage. they think minimum wage is a livable wage. have them prove it.
Best idea I've heard yet!
I know it isn't in the constitution, but didn't the founding fathers/government set wages to cover only their travel and lodging expenses?
where can you get that petition?
They're doing nothing, pay them nothing.
in the middle -
As long as you include Reid and his do-nothing Senate in there as well.
By the way - at least the republican-controlled HOuse has passed mandatory budget bills since they've had control, why can't Reid do his part and allow them to come to the floor of the Senate - as required by law.
Go to Whitehouse.gov and paste in the rest of this link.

There's also another petition started to reduce Congressional pay to $75,000 annually.
HA-Ha, is the "Smoker of the House" gonna drink martinis with his fellow Republicans on Sunday & tell Obama jokes all night? "Do Nothing Congress" spends their time golfing, drinking, & smoking with their Corporate Lobbyists instead of doing the People's Bidding!
What a bunch of political BS!! They GOP is bound and determined to protect the wealthy, corporation and their tax cuts, and trying to force cuts in Medicare and SS!! They value partisan victory over the country's welfare. I hope the DEMs take this opportunity to break the GOP and let the GOP take us over the cliff! There might be hard times but it will expose the GOP, once and for all, that they care nothing for Joe America and constantly giving us the finger!
Well, Boehner, stuff it! You have no intention of compromising! You INSIST on having taxes go up for the middle/working classes and making SS and Medicare recipients to pay for the fix of a debt crisis that the GOP CAUSED!
Stand firm DEMs!! If the bush tax cuts arent ended, if middle class taxes rise, if the GOP insists on SS and Medicare cuts for people who played NO PART in this deliberate GOP debt crisis, then it's NO DEAL!! Not even a short term deal.
Tom in NH-294381,
It sounds to me like the GOP is the group trying to protect everyone based on the bill they already passed. The bill was sent to the Senate, where Reid refuses to take it up.
And the GOP created the debt crisis how?
Harry "It's DOA" Reid is afraid to bring ANYTHING up in the Senate that could make the Dems look bad politically.
The whole system is supposed to be based on the House passing a bill, the Senate taking it up and debating/amending it and then working out any differences in Conference with the House. But Reid has been a BOWEL OBSTRUCTION. He's a piece of SH!T THAT IS IN THE WAY THAT WON'T LET ANYTHING GET THROUGH!
Time for some EX-LAX so we can get the crap (Reid) out of the way so the whole system starts flowing again!
Oh heck, not to fear. Obama came in on his white horse to solve the issues! Or was that on the famous AF1?
armurray
The Senate is not taking it due to the fact that this "(un)Plan(ned) B" effectively rises taxes on everyone earning less that 50K. And, yes, the GOP CREATED the debt crises situation.
RamFla
First off BOTH parties Created the debt Crisis. Tax increases & cuts are usually real. Spending cuts are usually never realized, unless they are in a place were republicans can be blamed.
9 years ago, members from both parties voted to cut payments to medicare patient serving doctors. Every year since a supplemental appropriations finds it's way through congress restoring those payments back to the doctors for each year.
The reason Plan B failed with the republicans is that they noticed that the cuts Boehner agreed to take place in later years, while tax increases were immediate.
RamFla,
You're not keeping up. Plan B did not pass the House. The bill that is in the Senate maintains the current tax rates for everyone.
Regarding the debt crisis, what do you think that the GOP did to create the current deficits under Obama since the recession ended? Did they increased government spending? - no Did they cut taxes? -no
So again, what have the Republicans in Congress done to increase the deficit since the recession ended?
armurray..........
bush was left a surplus and he left us with a $10 trillion debt. That $10 trillion did not include the cost of 2 wars. Obama put the costs on the books to reflect our true debt. He was stuck with the cost of 2 wars that bush started and we are still paying for Afghanistan. Obama voted against these wars . He was also stuck with having to initiate the stimulus package so we didn't go into a deep depression as a direct result of bush economic policies.
armurray.............
the Senate passed a budget bill this summer. the House has refused to bring it up for a vote. this will be the fifth time somebody has told you this. either you can't read or you just read what you want.
depraw - someone needs to explain the big words to armurray. Apparently he/she doesn't understand any word of more than 4 letters.
Hey there miss Duke advanced degree.
Who is the biggest purchaser of US Bonds? Pray tell us oh knowledgeable one.
depraw,
The only budget proposal that the Senate voted on in 2012 was the Obama's budget request, which was defeated by a vote of 99-0.
Regarding the debt, I agree that Bush had excessive spending that added about $4 trillion to the national debt during his 8 years, but this didn't add to spending the last 2 years. The stimulus package was in Obama's first year. The Iraq war is over. Obama owns the increased the spending in Afghanistan since he ordered the surge.
None of this explains how the GOP increased the deficit during the Obama years after the end of the recession - about $1.3 trillion expected this year.
ARMMURRAY, NO, the bill the Senate passed in July extends ONLY the tax cuts for those making $250K or less. You really should try harder to keep up.
Last Thursday, before Plan B failed, the GOPTP House passed legislation to cut food stamps, Meals on Wheels, ObamaCare, medicaid but the yahoo cowards refused to raise taxes on the richest 2%. Pathetic. Let the elderly, disabled and poor starve while the rich eat lobster and drink champaign. Conservatives without conscience and obviously they are not as Christian as they claim.
Jody, Iowa,
Actually, yes, I am correct. I believe you are referring to S.3393, Middle Class Tax Cut Act from the senate. That is fine, but it is not a budget proposal as depraw states.
So the Senate should follow the the laws in the books and amend, then pass the tax bill that was already sent to them by the House.
No armurray - you are NOT correct. Try again.
So what budget bill did the Senate pass? The last I could find was over 1200 days ago.
I know, ARMURRAY, the budget proposal isn't the same as the tax bill. I was making a point regarding the tax legislation, not the budget proposal. I just find your argument as empty as Boehner's reasoning. It is easy to point at the Senate as an excuse for your own side's failure and that is what Boehner is doing.
Bush took budget surpluses and in less than one year had over $1 trillion in budget deficits every year. He doubled the national debt, the economy collapsed. Anyone with working brain cells recognizes that a near depression means even more deficit. It is quite tiresome reading conservatives speak about fiscal responsibility when it is the GOP side that has NOT been fiscally responsible for 30 years.
armurray??
HOW? By the last 3 GOP presidents signing TWENTY deficit riddled budgets AND saddling Obama with a $1.3T deficit. While the GOP talks about the DEMs not passing budgets, they KNOW that continuing resolution which levels the budgets to the previous years budget. This has happened every year since Obama signed Bush's last budget, which Bush REFUSED to sign because it had a deficit of at least $1.3T. What that really means is ALL of the government spending has actually been according to whatever Bush's last budget mandated!
The evidence shows that the Republicans, beginning with Raygun, created this debt crisis deliberately, using tax cuts for the wealthy and massive spending increases. They called the plan "starve the beast" (see Grover Norquist). WHY? They want to privatize SS and Medicare!! ( see Ryan budget). In other words, they reduced revenues, increased spending massively, and now want the needy to foot the bill. American are tired of the GOP's giving Joe America the finger!
Let the REPUBLICANS and their supporters find a way to fix THEIR mess without dumping on those who had NOTHING to do with creating it! Maybe we should go back to the tax levels during the Clinton years, or even pre-raygun. We ARE in crisis after all.
Jody,
Bush's largest budget deficit was $455 billion (2008). Obama's budget's have all had > $1 trillion
Bush's total debt was less in 8 years ($4 trillion) than what Obama has added ($6 trillion) to the federal debt in 4 years.
If the deficits are all about the near depression, why are we still running >$1 trillion deficits even though we've been out of the recession for 2 years and projected out several more years.
still glad you're a fellow Hawkeye...
armurray - you amazingly forget that Bush never accounted for 2 wars in his "budget." He just acted like they didn't exist and didn't have to be paid for. His total debt was far above what you state - how convenient.
Mr Murry, what rock have you had your head under these last 12 years? The republicraps have NEVER acted in good faith regarding the welfare of our country or it's citizens. More concentrated corporate wealth can never be seen as being good for any society. It is the complete ignorance of how things actually work that is causing our present dilemma. The obstruction from the right has done nothing but create turmoil and inconsistencies in the financial markets(we all know they are stealing us blind), but as long as everyone is working HERE we made money for everyone. Corporate raiders have filled their pockets and now are sitting on the fence deciding what restaurant they want to jet to tonight, not how to solve their job killing previous actions. I was growing up when Ike was president, times were hard but there was always another job if you didn't like the one you had, not now. So your illusion of racism or gun rights, or illegals is just that and ILLUSION GIVEN TO YOU BY THE MASTERS OF AMERICAN DESTRUCTION, FOX NEWS. And they sir are nothing more than the most obnoxious group of propaganda spreaders EVER!!!

the way you wrote that made it sound like you were crying (leave brittney alone) about him, Obama, having to sit on the side of the road with a sign begging for a meal....just kinda made me puke a lil thats all...
keep going this arguement is better than congress...
Look, on the topic of money, Chris Rock said it best, you just can't give a black man that much money and expect them to be responsible with it.
I don't blame Boehner. It's not his fault he was born wihout balls. I blame that slimeslug Cantor, for kissing up to Grover Norquist.
Well there are two things that will be certain at the beginning of the year.
1 The Boehner will not be Speaker (dig that smirk on Cantor's mug), and
2 The American people will still blame the GOP for this mess, rightly so.
All of the people that signed that Grover Norquist document should be ashamed of themselves for 1) thinking that stopped them from thinking of ALL their constituents and 2) that it doesn't help the ALL of America. Times change and any documents over 4 years old should be resigned. Alot of people made a huge mistake because now the general voting public IS holding them accountable and WILL vote them out. I think we are more alike than we are different and as I've said before, they need to think about everyone in the country and not their special interests.
Cut military spending by 50% to pre 9/11 level. That should be a no brainer.
And what do you do for all the lives lost in the war we were sent to to protect your Butt from becoming part of the terriosts body count !!!!???
Defense spending is out of control; we spend 5 times as much as the #2 country, and as much as #2 through 15 combined.
Do that and raise the top tax rate to 90% (where it was under Eisenhower) and the deficit is gone....
Of course you go after defense. It is the only Govt Program that works so lets destroy it.
What total fools you people are.
No one, including liberals, says to eliminate defense spending; no one thinks we don't need a strong military. But defense spending can certainly take a big hair cut and I doubt we'd even notice. The biggest driver of our budget is defense. Our defense spending has been out of control since Reagan started hooping it up to fight all those "commies" even though the USSR was already in decline.
The repubs talk about unnecessary spending, well, the Pentagon ordered all new uniforms for all the drivers in the military, etc--what, they couldn't use the ones they have when dollars are short and the GOP demands cuts to food aid for the poor?
That said, we cannot just drastically cut spending now on defense any more than we can on other programs because too much austerity, too quickly, will collapse the economy, and is as bad as Bush spending trillions and charging it all.
rukudding Of course you go after defense Its the only Govt. Program that works so lets destroy it.
Wrong the only Govt. Program that works is Social Security. Why do republicans want want to destroy it?
What fools you people are. That includes you rukidding!
We can cut the defense spending by 75% and still outspend all enemies combined 2:1.
Smitty
SS is broken and it needs fixed. Republicans do not want want to destroy it you fool. It is not sustainable.
Keep writing and proving my point.
rukidding It takes a fool know another fool huh? Or is it from one fool to another. Tell me what would you do? Come on put it out there. You think you are the smart man. You have the ideas. Lay some foolishness on me.
sometimes you just can't fix stupid...oh... you mean social security..carry on then
After serving for 23 years, I can tell you with 100% certainty that is does not works. It's broken beyond belief.
Generals have been given equipment that they never asked for, nor want just because some politician owes some defense contractor a favor to the tune of a few hundred million.
We have a Corps of Engineers, yet the government contracts out on post construction to private contractors. Yes, more favors being paid back.
We train cooks, quartermasters, clerks, mechanics, supply personnel, security, interrogators, interpreters etc..., yet if you were to go to Afghanistan, most of those positions have been replaced with civilians. Yes, more favors being paid back.
Troops are opting to not re enlist just so they can get the same exact job as a civilian making 5 times more. Yes, some contractor is making hundreds of millions off of this.
Aside from that pesky dying part, our troops are not being used for the positions in which they were trained. Instead, they are being used to train their civilian replacements.
We could easily cut 200+ billion from our defense budget without compromising our role as the worlds police simply by removing the for profit aspect of our military.
So, to re state what I said at the top of my comment. No, the Defense Department isn't working. It's one of the most corrupt and wasteful programs we have.
I would never sit at a poker table with less than three times as many chips as the largest stacked player at the table.... that's both defense and offense at the poker table.
Dominate the game or do not play.
The same is true of defense spending. It is not enough to outspend by 100% or 150%, in order to dominate the opponents budget has to be multiplied by three or more... this is the ultimate defensive strategy for defense budgeting.
The difference between the two games is we have no choice but to play the defense game and if we don't get it right there is no tomorrow.
Obama had both houses for two years, the reason no budget was passed is because he is 100% inept and not a leader of any kind at all, merely a demagogue with a giant number of food stamp addicts to adore him.
You can argue and fight all you want but numbers don't lie. Obama is the worst executive in the history of the world and that is how he will be remembered by history.
The waste in the military is a stuff of true legends, like the $1000 flashlights and $500 toilet seats. And any of you really think we need almost 40 thousand troops stationed in S.Korea watching their northern border? How about 40,000 US soldiers in Germany? Or the 30,000 in Japan? We could cut military spending by 90% and sill spend more on defense than Russia. That money is a total waste of national resources.
None of them seem worried about the consequences, because whatever is passed will not pertain to them. They go on their Christmas holidays and then make a big deal about cutting it short to get back to work on something that should have been completed months ago. This is just a continuation of the budget "talks' of earlier this year.
Wow all Dems on here today! Don't any of you work?
Ask a stupid question....
David Reede - many of us work and are - gasp! - capable of multi-tasking! You and had enuf - clearly on the dole!
On the dole??????????? I pay a ton of taxes and work and pay my way. Why put blame and why not solve the problem? Wait easier to place blame.
David - on you phoney hypocrite!!!! Go back and read your post then STFU!
Hey David,
I'll play .... I'm a Democrat. I work as a consultant and pretty much everything in my industry slows to a crawl during the holidays. So, it's my day to "man the fort" so to speak and get ready for the new year and new projects. What about you? What exactly do you do that allows you the luxurious free time to get on FR and insist that all Democrats don't have jobs? Or are having thoughts like that preventing you from getting one? (Paranoid Schizophrenia does make having a career a bit tricky.)
david............
i'm retired now but i worked 7 days a week. 12 -16 hours a day. for 30 years. What is your schedule?
p.s.Obama was willing to stay in D.C. but boner sent his people home.
David, what a tired, ignorant, ridiculous comment to make. Yes, I work, and I own the company. Yes, I take care of my family, and no, I am not on any dole. Some of us are capable of typing on here and still making sure our work gets done. Kind of odd that you never heard of doing that...guess you don't work if you think we can do both. Your post is pathetic.
Sorry but Obama took a 4 million dollar vacation to Hawaii
Us and Them - shut up! President Obama took a vacation - what of it? EVERY President has taken a holiday during the Christmas time. What is your problem????? We pay for his security and airforce one - as we have for EVERY President! Nothing more. President Obama has still taken fewer vacations than Bush did during the same amout of time.
What is YOUR problem?????? Because it is truly YOUR problem!
david reed Why are you not at work? Do you work troll? I'm semi retired. My work days are almost over. Than I guess you republicans will call me a slacker. Guess what I will wear that as a medal of honor. To bad you republicans have your a$$es cinched to tight to slack. You don't know what your missing.
Civil bunch of socialists are we not? You folks can have your tax increase and the sequester all at once. Then spend some more. Black-Jesus- Hussein- Mohamed- Obama will save us!!!
david reede
funny that you diss us for being here but you no what??... your on here too...so what does that say?
SHUT DOWN THE GIVErnment!
We need a GOVernment. Until Obama/Reid/Pelosi get serious and propose REAL spending cuts to balance the tax revenues as per the Bowles-Simpson ratio the GOP House should just close down Washington!
BOYCOTT left-supporting businesses and products. It's the only way these jacka$$es will ever learn the basics of economics enough to bring them to the bargaining table!
Cantor, Ryan, Boehner, McConnell etc.etc.etc. all walked out of the Simpson Bowles meeting. Obama and democrats stayed and were willing to listen and maybe accept most of their suggestions. It was the "PotParty" that walked out.
You say much more about yourself than the government or anyone else in the country when you say such disgusting, partisan comments. Seriously, boycott left-supporting business to prove your silly point...whatever it is. Now that is a mature, reasonable way to work things out...lol. Seems you are the one, at least according to your posts, who doesn't understand how the economy works. Can you at least pretend to be an adult when you post?
ram - I don't think "had enuf" can do that.
had enfu of our elected ones BOYCOTT left=supporting businesses.................
I've been BOYCOTTING right-wing businesses for years. I've been BOYCOTTING more right wing businesses even more after the election. The ones that are laying off workers because the President got reelected. Laying off people because the President got reelected is wrong. So I guess thats not very adult of me. Sorry ram thats my view.
dirty harry I'm glade your BOYCOTTING passing any republican legislation!!!! They sent it to you knowing that it would not pass let alone its so bad it would not even be read!
End the Fed
He's kidding, right?
I certainly hope so. I hope he doesn't think that the imbeciles in the Senate are capable of accomplishing anything that will help our country.
If Boehner gets the House Republicans back to work before the end of the year... What do you think the chances are that they will pass any bill that doesn't ban abortion and birth control?
There are post offices that need to be named.
The house better pass the farm bill at least and fast or we will be paying $7+ a gallon for milk. The house has been sitting on the bill for 6 + months now.
As we all know, Wall Street has spoken. They've ordered Congress and Obama to come up with some band aid package that looks great but gives the drunk guy another six pack.
I hope Boehner continues to stand firm for the Repubican party. I keep hearing all these Bozo's saying that America voted and now all must follow suit....well American did vote and the retained a Republican led House to make sure they stood stong for their constituents. If taxes go up in 2013, then I think all should contribute regardless of their income levels. The republicans are smart enough to see though the ridiculous Obama ploys. Of course we all know that the solution to this mess is contolling the wreckless spending that goes on in Washington.
Tax increases for EVERYONE, courtesy of Obama and Reid!!!
The cliff puts the US in better shape for the long-term because it actually has spending cuts in it. Unfortunately we still have our Medicare/Medicaid Aeorta hemorraging and in need of attention. The SS jugular vein is also bleeding out and is in immediate need of attention.
STOP Obama and the SPENDOCRATS.
WE NEED GOVernment not GIVErnment!
Smart enough? No they are not. They have two choices: get behind Obama's plan (with more taxes), or fall over the cliff (with even more taxes). It's a no-win position. What a joke.
I recommend that they sell all of your highways in Kansas to a private company that will turn them all into toll roads. Also, close all of the military bases in your state. If some foreign country bombs your sorry azz, then tough. Close the FBI, EPA, etc. offices and then put gates at all of your borders so you can charge people to get in and out. That is essentially the righties 50 countries solution. I think you'd be happy to pay more taxes then. Heck, it would be a lot cheaper. But then again, you probably don't pay the taxes you owe now.
Such a lame response JCnGAM. You've obviously never had to live under a budget before. In my house when funds were tight, you start with the discretionary items that you can do without. You then look for ways to trim expenses, maybe dine out less often. You also look for inefficiencies as a means to reduce costs. You basically live within your means. Your notion of selling Kansas Highways and closing all military bases seems a bit extreme don't you think? Unless you're just trying to glorify your point. One thing I'll give your leader credit for though...he's done a wonderful job in polarizing Americans
hadenuf.........
First of all.....Social security is not part of the budget.
Second.........if you just remove the wage caps Social Security would be funded way into the next century.
Third..........Medicare Medicaid was really hurt by the bush prescription deal that he never funded. the republicans also refuse to let Medicare/Medicaid bid for the cost of medications they pay for. Thus they pay the highest price out there. Remember that Big Pharma is in the republicans pockets. that is one of the reasons the republicans hate Obama/Romney care. Big Pharma won't have as much money to contribute to their campaigns if they can't overcharge the government.
If these men and woman can not work together. I have group of people that will work non stop to deal with the problems. The senators and congressman are not doing their jobs they are hired for.....get to work men and woman.......stop this crap.
Went from Blaming Bush to Boehner!!
Reede - easy to do since Boehner has done NOTHING but do nothing! He's marching to Grover's orders!
boner is owned by 'The PotParty'.
The clowns are coming back to the circus. What a joke.
While it's lamentable that politicians are more concerned with party than policy, the fiscal cliff might be the best thing that could happen to us as a nation -- we'll all end up paying higher taxes, taxes will rise on dividends and spending programs are cut across teh board. We shall have to learn to live within our means as a nation. The bloated military contractors will take a hit but, hey, that's all right -- we have the NRA and their 300 million+ guns that will defend the nation.
app64 - I wouldn't stand in front of any of those 300 million+ guns - we all know how well Cheney hunted!!! I think it's a GOP trait!
Feisty
I appreciate your points of view and hope you never stop. However, all you seem to do is point out the obvious or complain. Tell us: What should the American people do if our incompetent government doesn't start doing their job? We can all sit around the computer and complain, but any fool with a computer can do that. I'd just like for bloggers to provide a solution - regardless of how "shifted" it may be. Should we riot? Should we leave the country? Should we -------------------- (you fill in the blank). At what point do say enough-is-enough, and where do we go from here?
For starters we keep up the pressure, we cleaned the right wingers clocks in November and can kick more to the curb in 2014.
We call & e-mail our Representatives in DC and make our voices heard - LOUD & CLEAR!
We volunteer our time and donate our money to send every Republican in Congress packing!
We continue to keep the truth front & center on political blogs like this!
These are just a few of the things WE the people can do to keep moving this country >>>FORWARD!
Right on Feisty call and email your Republican representatives and tell them to tell Obama to take a hike!!!!
iowaretiree . . .
The country had that chance in November and guess what, iowa??? They chose not to. Aww the power of a vote . . .
LMAO And it will be four years of a do nothing President!!!!! Which isn't a bad thing at least this way he can't screw us anymore than he already has!!
Layton - iowaretiree lives in la la land! Must just really kill him that Iowa went for Obama!
Feisty
Awesome response. I'm just afraid that if our government doesn't stop polarizing the people, they will eventually be responsible for an "Arab Spring" in the United States.
iowaretiree...........
stop smoking that corn.
Exactly who do you think in government is polarizing the people? And we did elect the current administration on the policies he is pursuing, so it isn't as if he sneaked in and sprang all the ideas on us after the election.
I could care less who won the Presidency, I just sit back and laugh at all you idiots who think that Obama is the second coming, all of you who voted for Obama in due time will see the errors of your ways!!!
iowaretiree - you voted for Romney and you're calling US idiots???? You truly are pathetic And, NONE of us think President Obama is the 2nd coming. We KNOW he's a very good President - unlike the phoney YOU voted for!
Good for what, making the same speech over and over, tax the rich and spend, spend, spend, that is all he knows!!
Harry Reid and Barack Obama - Abject Failures - Blamers - Clueless
Stop the pure insanity of Washington spending - now
Don't cave
I cant make it on Sunday Boehner. Sunday I have to go to church. I cant make it Monday either Boehner. I will be drunk after testing all of the Liquor Bottles I have for my New Years Eve Party. Oh whats that Boehner, you will come to me if I let you help me test my Liquor? Come on over Boehner, you probably wont drink much, because you are already lit.
It is hard to believe that the GOP still has not received the message the MAJORITY of voters sent in November. These flippin' idiots are still beholden to the TEA Party and the rest of us suffer because they cannot stand up to that crowd. So once again, the GOP will be responsible for putting the U.S. economy at risk and my 401K and stock market investments will suffer because these schmucks cannot raise taxes on those who shouldn't have gotten tax cuts in the first place. What happened to the party of Lincoln? Imagine what Abe would think of "Profiles in Courage" Boehner and McConnell. I guess the GOP needs the fiscal cliff so they can remain "pure" and not have their fingerprints on the tax hike the rich will incur after Jan 1st and Grover Norquist won't be pinning the blame on them.
@Rich
Do you even know what you are talking about??? Of the "Bush" tax cuts, roughly $700 Billion went to the rich. $3 Trillion went to everone else.
Meanwhile, spending is out of control. For every $1 that the US spends it borrows more than $0.40. Even if you raised the taxes on the rich to 90% you wouldn't come close to addressing the problem.
The only COWARDS in this debate is your messiah Obama and the SPENDOCRATS. They fear looking like the people who took away things from their supporters, so instead they obstruct all progress. It has to be their way or no way!
Boehner put increased tax revenue on the table and was offered NOTHING in return. Cuts in the rate of future increases are NOT real cuts when you are spending over $1 Trillion more than you take in each year right now!
People like you advocating economic suicide! We do not need or want a GIVErnment. We need a GOVernment.
When the wannabe Emperor and his Kabal get serious on the spending cuts there can be compromise. Right now, I hope the party I support shuts down the whole government until you guys get over yourselves and get real!
"Of the "Bush" tax cuts, roughly $700 Billion went to the rich. $3 Trillion went to everone else."
Do you have the headcount on 'the rich', and 'everyone else', by any chance?
I've seen graphs that show the rich got way more, proportionally, than those further down the food-chain.
hadenuf.............
so per capita the rich got 7 times(and that's being VERY conservative) what the rest of America did. I guess that's fair.
had enuf - When the wannabe Emperor and his Kabal get serious on the spending cuts there can be compromise. Right now, I hope the party I support shuts down the whole government until you guys get over yourselves and get real
You really are a demented little individual aren't you? You might want to remember that the majority of Americans voted for our President so, the party YOU supported isn't the one in the White House. Get over it and learn to at least try to be an American!
Oh, and the only idiot talking about an "Emperor" is you. Grow up!
The rich paid far more then 7 times what the rest of americans paid in taxes, so they should get more back. The Bush tax cuts gave 5% back to the poor and middle class, the Rich got a 3% tax cut. Now they want the rich to pay 4 times as much taxes on the dollar as the poor (who pay nothing, currently and usually get back more then they paid. The answer is to cut spending, like eleminating the Departments of Education (it's the states job anyway) the department of energy (what do they do anyway?) to name two, I am sure there are plenty more along with the many Czar's that do nothing (how is the jobs czar doing?)
While it is true that we reelected this bozo again, less then half the voting population voted, and of that about half voted for him. We got divided government again. It is time for the Government to do what us average american families have been doing for the past 4 years, bring our personal budgets in line with our incomes. We cut spending, and put priorites on the spending that was needed.
