Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo arrested for DUI

Alexandria Police Dept.

Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) in a photo released by the Alexandria Police Department, Dec. 23.

U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo of Idaho was arrested early Sunday morning in a suburb of Washington, D.C. for driving under the influence, according to a statement released by Alexandria, Va. police.

Crapo, a Republican, was stopped after a patrol officer saw his vehicle go through a red light. After failing field sobriety tests, he was arrested at 12:45 a.m. and “taken into custody without incident,” according to the statement by Alexandria police.

"There was no refusal (to take sobriety tests), no accident, no injuries," Alexandria Police spokesman Jody Donaldson told The Associated Press. "Just a traffic stop that resulted in a DUI."

In a statement Sunday night, Crapo said he was “deeply sorry.”

“I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family, my Idaho constituents and any others who have put their trust in me,” he said. “I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated."

Crapo (pronounced KRAY-poh) was released around 5 a.m. Sunday on an unsecured $1,000 bond. His court date is set for Jan. 4.

Crapo has served in the Senate since 1998, where he has built a reputation as a staunch social and fiscal conservative. He is currently in his third term and won't have to run again until 2016.

A Mormon from Idaho Falls, Idaho, he has five children with his wife, Susan.

NBC's Frank Thorp and The Associated Press contributed reporting.

Of course he's a social conservative.... The type who knows exactly what other people shouldn't be doing but excuses himself from those same harsh standards of conduct.

What a Crappy news this is.

Senator Crappy doesn't want to fall off the CLIFF, thus was driving a wagon on his way back from the CLIFF, falling off the wagon, and was stopped.

Crapo was ... failing field sobriety tests.

We need some sober Republicans in Congress to avoid driving into the cliff.

Senator Crap just wanted to test if the rule still works. Now he is satisfied and will testify in the Senate about his findings from his fact-finding mission.

Brad, how about GIVING a blow job in a Minneapolis airport restroom?? Or messing around with young male pages? Look people, the Mormon republican senator made the same mistake thousands of people make every day. He will go in front of the judge, be told he can't drive for 6 months, pay a small fine (small for what he makes) get a government paid chauffeur and continue to move us forward to the cliff. Maybe he lives on the senate subway route and can just use that to get to his office the three days they spend a week in Washington.

DUI is a whole lot worse than getting a blow job in the oval office. Why? Because DUI is an action which has the potential to put other people's lives and property at stake and getting a blow job in the oval office between 2 consenting adults doesn't put any lives at risk... only a few possible stains on the carpet that can be cleaned.

Furthermore, if you think that WJC was the first POTUS to have a bit of sex without the First Lady giving it or getting it, you're in fantasy land. Many historians have suggested that good old Abe was doing it with his male friend while Mrs. Lincoln was doing herself in the Lincoln Bedroom. Just sayin'.

Crapo? people actually voted for guy named Crapo? lol The kids in school must have made him miserable, which is probably why he became a conservative . There has got to be more to this story. What cop would arrest a politician for dwi? A senator. He had to be very very drunk for a cop to risk his or her career. Can't wait to hear the details as they emerge.

oh! and just for the record, there is no cliff. If nothing is done, we return to the tax tables of 1999. now i don't know about you guys, but in 1999 I was doing really good. as a single owner/operator of a one man company, i had more work then I could handle. I love these egotists, especially congressmen. He does it in the face of all of his constituents, then, only then says he is sorry and will take steps to not let it happen again. Now what the heck does that mean?? First if he was going to be sorry he would not have done it, second, "not let it happen again"?? Now if it happened once while he was drunk what the h is he gonna do to make sure it doesn't happen again?? This slays me every time I hear it coming out of these jerks mouths. You are there to lead our country and you make this stupid, idiot mistake and you expect me to smile and say oh, well sure it is ok. The number of different hypocritic things coming from this jerk just amazes me. I think when they, any congressman (or woman) creates any thing of this nature they should be obligated to resign. At least a few male hookers. Problem solved and everybody goes home happy. Now that's bipartisanship.

Sen. Crapo failed multiple field sobriety tests, so the presumption of innocence will have shifted to reasonable assumption of drunkeness. Mr. Crapo should save his constituents and the state of Idaho embarrassment and resign immediately so that the process of seating his replacement can move forward in all due haste.

Idaho's representation in Congress is far more important than any one person; and that State and every State of our Republic should quite rightly hold its Congressional delegations to a higher standard.

Sen. Crapo, do not linger, resign now.

I believe "Crapo" in the original French was "Crappeau" or "Crappeaux."

After such an embarrassingly public DUI, I would imagine that his five children may be making the argument to their dad that perhaps they should change the family name spelling back.

Life for kids and grandchildren is rough enough after public embarrassments caused by their parents, ... and that on top of living with a last name which will get you beaten up on the playground just for walking funny.

jack-364934 There's no need to get political. There are drinkers in both houses of Congress. It is not fair to mention one or two, when there are dozens. However, you missed the point: Senator Crapo was driving while intoxicated. He made the bad choice to drive after consuming alcohol; and, he is not the first Mormon to do that.

Anyone with a lick of sense knows that one should NEVER drink and drive - even if there was a meal with the drinking...

Therefore, Senator Crapo should resign, because he has demonstrated that he does not have any common sense. He is an embarrassment to the good citizens of Idaho.

Maybe he told the police officer, "What thinks you make I've been drinking?"

A Democrat Minnesota lawmaker Kerry Gauthier, 56 who authorities say admitted having a liaison with a 17-year-old boy at a rest stop faced calls from party leaders Monday to resign.

Police say the teenager responded to the lawmaker's Craigslist ad for "no strings attached" sex.

Rep. Gauthier admitted to the liaison, according to police reports made public late last week. The teen told police the two had oral sex, according to the reports.

It is curious, look at how this story is blown up, but when it came out that Obama was a Marxist, doper, alcoholic, with multiple" boyfriends", at least one of whom died under mysterious circumstances, not a word from the Lap dog, Marxist Socialist Media nor Obama's merry band of mindless, kneejerk, zombie, apologists ,in fact they did their best to bury the reports, but when "Clean Face" Harry Reid,("Clean Face" is the nickname ol' Harry's Mafia Bosses gave him, as recorded on tape by the FBI, when he was in charge of the Gaming Commission in Nevada, on his way to being the Mafia and Union's Senator from that state),tells a blatant, defamatory, lie about Mitt Romney, it is just reported as truth, without any investigation, then of course dropped after the election, Pravda, Communist, and anti American extremists everywhere must be proud. Too bad for Mr. Crapo, if he had been a Dem He would be well on his way to being a Presidential Candidate now. ,

He should be thrown out of congress and revoke any benefits of the office....just like they should do to all law-breakers in CONgress.

Kerry - Cheating on taxes.

Rangle - Cheating on taxes.

Waters - Corruption of steering funds to her husband's bank..

And on and on....I don't care Dem or Rep...They are lawmakers and should be held to a higher standard. If they get caught violating the law....THROW THEM OUT.

Unfortunately, people will just vote him back in...like Marion Barry getting caught with crack, but they just voted him back in. Americans have no pride or dignity anymore. Just "D" or "R" is all we care about these days. And before anyone says it, I know Barry wasn't in congress. It's an example of how no one cares about politicians having morals.

Harry Reid is Mormon too but look how he lies or maybe I should say plants a seed and lets the media go wild with it. That tall tale that Romney wasn't paying his taxes....you have to produce your income taxes for several year when you sign on too run for the main offices in Washington. Bottom line, once they get to Washington whatever faith they had going in gets thrown out the door. True Mormons don't drink, lie or take caffine just for starters.

BTW George, "going over the cliff" means a bit more than reverting to 1999 tax tables. It will also result in 2 million people immediately losing their unemployment insurance. Kind of a bummer losing most of your income in a heartbeat, eh George? The GOP is playing politics with people's lives because they can't bring themselves to compromise with a black President. Why do you think they've filibustered virtually every bill in the Senate? Because they'll do everything in their power to obstruct Obama at the expense of the American people. The ultra conservative baggers that people mindlessly elected to Congress just can't stomach the fact that there's a black man in the White House, and it's disgusting. They need to get over it, because thankfully, he's there for another 4 years.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- A Democratic senator from Pocatello arrested in early December after police say he drove drunk has been named to a leadership post.

Sen. Edgar Malepaei was chosen by his Senate party mates as minority caucus chair, a post he'd occupied since 2004 but vacated during the two-year leave he took from serving to care for his sick wife.

Senate Minority Leader Kate Kelly, a Boise Democrat, says the DUI arrest was discussed, but that her Democratic colleagues decided Malepeai deserved the leadership post due to his respect and stature among lawmakers from both parties.

I've been working my ass off this month, even putting in 62-hour work weeks, while these GnoP clowns party as they hold our nation hostage. And, for what? So they can protect the tax-break entitlements of their billionaire/millionaire "friends"????

My last paycheck was a gross pay of $1,224 for a 62 hour work week, but the net pay was only $972 from that same goddamn paycheck. Do the math on how high a percentage of my income goes to paying taxes, already, here in 2012. It baffles me that these shameless teabaggers, their idiotic/racist constituents, and their rich 1% overlords are whining about having to pay a mere 10-20% of their TOTAL income to taxes, and instead fight tooth-and-nail to corrupt our federal government and tax laws in order to create lopsides taxrates and loopholes that allows the extremely rich to escape paying their fair share in taxes.

So these drunken, underaged-page-molesting, airport-samesex-engaging, running-for-president-without-really-wanting-to, devoid-of-integrity republicans want to send our nation over a cliff and increase MY already high taxes even higher, just because they want to please their billionaire/millionaire china-jobs creators? For the love of goodness, God please end this whig republican party their so-called teo-consdervative movement already. They've long overstayed their welcome in our modern/progressive society. I beg of you to touch the hearts of the racist, bigoted and idiotic of our great nation, and persuade them to throw their support behind some other(new?) political force that is untainted by corporate puppetry.

Nearly, every night this month I've gone to sleep with my hands in so much pain that I've had lay with them in an elevated position and consume ibuprofen in order to manage at least a straight 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Yet, when I eventually awake still in pain, I'm still thankful that I'm headed to my current job, as opposed to still being deployed in Iraq or Afganistan. The hard, thankless work that's been destroying my body during these past few weeks is much more enjoyable than the hard thankless duties I carried out during the final years of my service in the USMC. I just wished that the leaders and voting citizens of my nation were at least a fraction as concerned and sacrificial towards the future well-being of me and my family as I was for all of theirs.

Happy holidays, America!

Holiday party's , watch how much you drink;

it is not illegal to drink and drive, it is illegal to drink above a certain limit and drive;

do not be fooled by how you feel, you could easily be over the limit of .008; take a cab, or bring someone alone who does not drink; buy a pocket breathalyzer (on line they are cheap), use it if you are out at a party or dinner, do not be fooled as to how you think you feel.

Living here in Idaho...not a mormon and have seen too many state and federal politicians from this state do the exact same thing. In Idaho...it's a rite of passage to get a DUI and keep getting elected. Next up...he comes back here...apologizes...gets into a secret meeting with the state Bend Over Party officials and he's reelected to do it all over again.

At least he didn't pull what I call the Idaho plea every other politician uses when pulled for drinking and driving..."Do you know who I am?" One of our state's finest plowed into a boat in a driveway at 5-10 MPH/slumped over the wheel and refused to allow the police to arrest him because he was in the legislature.

I'm sorry that you are having problems with your hands. I assume you are going to the VA for help? If not give it a try. I believe you need to look for different work. Try one of the Armored car companies. You'll get paid a lot more than you are getting now. If that doesn't appeal to you use your veterans grant to go to college. I'm retired and thats what I am doing. I'm on the Presidents list at the college I'm attending. I've had steel put in my neck. I ache all the time. I am on pills also. I don't know what you have been through. My service was in the 70's. If you don't like your job find a new one. I don't know where you live. If it's on the east coast try relocating to the midwest. Southern Illinois and Southern Indiana are nice areas. There are leadership jobs for Marines here. Management is always looking for a few good men. Try Heartland Foods. They are a great company with good benefits. They are a truly family oriented corporation. Don't blame the republicans for all of your problems! According to Mormon teachings followers cannot use alcohol so is this another hypocrite from the Mormon following or has he been corrupted by DC or both? One thing is for sure he was arrested for DUI as a Senator and a follower of the LDS Church. I guess none of these social conservatives follow what they try to make law and advocate for the sake of getting elected. Time to send this Mormon back to the church camp for reprogramming again. Here is the difference Rob68, the republican party has for years now advertised themselves as the "Moral Majority", the party of "Personal Responsibility", the party of "Christian Values", so when time and again they show themselves to be anything but what they portray themselves as they open themselves to acute criticism of their hypocrisy. The my $hit doesn't stink act is the conservative republican campaign shtick, plank and platform, not the liberals or democrats, but obviously it really does stink, it fact it smells like Crapo to an ever growing percentage of the electorate.

Why not believe your eyes JD, you see a man that taught and promoted the Constitution as a law professor, he sure as hell did not teach communism. Why imply that the man had a boyfriend when what you see is a man who has been happily married for quite some time and is raising two beautiful children. Why imply he wants to destroy the US when he has collected the heads of our enemies with no reservations, even going into a sovereign country to get Bin Laden without their prior knowledge or permission. Frankly you fall into the category of birthers and other conspiracy theorists, which makes your party look foolish, and renders them more irrelevant to the general electorate by the day. Now I am pretty sure you will just continue to tell me why I should believe you and not my lying eyes.

Neither does the book he wrote if you bothered to read either - which you clearly haven't. None of what you claim is true. Again, your post is total LIES!

The President has NEVER HAD a "boyfriend," the way your post implies. You are a true Republican - lower than anyone should ever stoop!

        I believe he is correct.

In any event, in my industry and many others you are barred from working on many sites if you have been convicted of a DUI or anything else. How many people have had to pee in a cup and be subjected to random drug and alcohol tests as a condition of employment, why should the leaders of the nation and and other so called captains of industry be exempt from the very rules they impose on others.

Where is it written that a drinker cannot also condemn drinking? Does a person always have to think that everything he does is the right thing to do? I would suggest that every drunk driver in the world (especially those who get caught) would proclaim drunk driving wrong. And would legislate against it. And quite often still commit the act. It doesn't mean they are wrong to proclaim their beliefs; it means they are fallible.

I will challenge you Rob68 to find any post of mine where I tried to justify a wrong, I ripped Anthony Wiener a new one, and immediately called for his resignation on this blog. It is true enough I rip republicans with particular glee, and I explained why above. I used to vote the person, but that is now long ago, because their are virtually no persons of integrity left in the republican party, as a whole not a single one of them stood up to their leadership on their deployment of the Waterloo strategy, and the number one stated priority of the party to simply make sure Obama was a one term president. They put politics and the next election above their Oath of Office, and the good of the nation. The very same people that said it was unpatriotic to publicly criticize Bush because he was a wartime president and doing so would embolden our enemies and put American lives in danger. What the hell happened to that train of thought right after Obama was elected. They don't have any individuals who will stand up to Norquist, they put a pledge to him above their Oath of Office to represent the will and good of the nation. They have no individuals that will stand up to birthers, to flat earthers, the NRA, the Tea Party, the Church, and so on and on, so you bet your ass I now punish all republicans at every level of government and vote straight democratic and will continue to do so until they straighten up and fly right. The republican party as it now is does not represent my views, or interests so why should I vote for any individual republican who will just fall in line with the party and add to the number of people in positions of power that disregard my interests. One last thing, I want to make this clear, it was not the democratic party that led me to be a straight democratic voter, it was the Republican party that changed me into a straight ticket voter.

Nope Forest,(interesting moniker by the way), I don't try to" tell" anyone anything, I provide information and the sources where I found it and let them research and make their own conclusions. Oh,on your list, You forgot to mention Mr. Obama promising to cut the deficit in half, or being the most transparent administration in history, or unemployment never going above eight percent, and just to be accurate, He was not a Professor, He was a lecturer,( and sure as hell taught the Alinsky techniques of community organizing), also I "saw" with my own eyes the radicals and Communist that were and still are working for this Administration, and think real hard now, haven't You "seen" numerous politicians who have been "pictured" as happily married with families who have been found to be otherwise. As for destroying the nation, He also sure as hell taught the radicals, Cloward and Piven technique of destroying a country's capitalist economy, by adding unsustainable debt through massive spending until it collapses upon itself and a spiffy new socialist order could then arise from the ashes, but I guess You will only really be satisfied when You "see" it for Yourself. So as long as we are categorizing, I will have to lump You in with the various groups of greed driven Obama Zombies, (You know what a Zombie is I am sure, a mindless, souless creature that has the appearance of human form but otherwise, is totally incapable of independent thought, and exists only to follow its instinct, to attack, feed on, and destroy the living and productive whenever and where ever it "sees" them).

"I accept total responsibility and will deal with whatever penalty comes my way in this matter. I will also undertake measures to ensure that this circumstance is never repeated." ...he has built a reputation as a staunch social ... conservative."

Anyone want to bet he released that statement before he talked to his lawyers, probably even while he was still drunk.

Cloward and Piven? Aren't those the guys who used to sell that wine cooler?

Yes the president promised some things, he had an agenda, he had some goals, and the American electorate was on board with his ideas he won that election in a landslide. The republicans decided to make his demise their number one priority they block revenue which would cut the deficit, they block jobs bills that would put people to work and allow them to pay taxes instead of depending on unemployment. The money is spent anyway but republicans won't allow it to be spent on infrastructure that would simultaneously cut welfare and grow the economy, at all costs they intended on depriving the president of any success on his agenda, problem is while they deprived him of any progress they also deprived themselves of any progress and hence lost the Oval Office, lost seats in the senate and the house. You see the majority of the nation believes the presidents unfulfilled promises are more the fault of the republicans in Congress than his. As far as my being a Zombie who only exists only to follow its instinct, to attack, feed on, and destroy the living and productive whenever and where ever it "sees" them, I must disagree. I have been a union member, who worked day in and day out to make my living and a nice profit for the owners. I am a patented inventor and was for a long time the owner of a small consulting business based on my patents and unique contributions and innovations to my industry. I have been a representative of my union who helped negotiate on their behalf, and worked hard to see to it that the people who produce the product that all profits originate from, were not destroyed, but had a safe workplace and enjoyed a fair slice of the profits their labor produced. Now I enjoy a management position where I travel around the country and abroad, to supervise projects to insure that they are profitable for my company, that the labor is performed professionally, and that they (labor) are treated and paid as such, and that the customer is delivered a first class product for his money. I have a long personal history of not being considered a Zombie just out there "to attack, feed on, and destroy the living and productive whenever and where ever it "sees" them" by either side of the coin, labor or management. The positions I have held, and continue to hold, my income, and my status in my industry with both labor and management will attest to that JD.

Barfing the usual nazi propaganda, "jd" just doesn't get that commenting so far off topic makes one look completely incapable of logical reasoning...not to mention the blatantly ignorant, excessively paranoid subject matter that "jd" is pretending the article is about.

Feigning ignorance of Cloward and Piven does not become such an obviously well educated man such as Yourself ,and I am sure You also know the Democrats had complete control of Washington for the first two years of the Obama Administration and could not have possibly stopped anything the President really wanted passed as evidenced by the disatrous health care bill, and the late night pillaging of the treasury by the Dems, that occurred in the early days of the Administration with absolutely nothing to show for over a trillion dollars of loss in one night! You sound like you have worked hard during Your career, but I must ask, What has the Unions done for the American Auto Industry lately, except priced it out of existence, leaving Detroit and the rest of the rust belt in their wake, with the only viable remnants being those manufacturers in right to work states,(that's why an increasing number of states are moving in that direction), Unions had their place and time, but that has passed. When it gets to the point that unions will stand by after years of having demands met time and again by a company,an American icon, but then stand by and watch that company have to dissolve itself, throwing thousands out of work because the union won't stop its feeding frenzy, and to meet further unions demands would destroy it anyway, that seems pretty zombie like to me.

From Dreams from My Father, by Barack Obama, 1996.

"I drank heavilly and tried drugs enthusiastically"

"Junkie, Pothead, That's where I'd been headed, the final, fatal role of the young would be black man."

"Pot had helped, and booze, maybe a little blow when you could afford it"

Not enough for you? read on.

According to the Chicago Tribune in 2007 , Obama thanked his "Choom Gang" in his high school yearbook, (chooming being Hawaiian slang for smoking pot).

                      and thaaaaats not all folks!

Larry Sinclair , a registered Democrat from Minnesota has made claims that he used cocaine and had homosexual sex with Obama,"I didn't want the sex thing to come out but I think it's important for the candidate to be honest about his drug use as late as 1999".

                      More on Obama's gay relationships.

In late May,(2010), Washington D.C. based investigative journalist, Wayne Madsen, wrote a bombshell article, (buried of course by the MSM), concerning Obama's membership in a Chicago Gay men's club called Man's Country.

He also reported the following Homosexual relationships:

Donald Young- the openly Gay Choir Director of Obama's Church in Chicago for twenty years as confirmed by Larry Sinclair.

There were also two openly Gay Men in Obama's Church, Larry Bland and Nate Spencer.

In late 2007 as Obama began his ascent to be the Democratic Party's Nominee , in the space of one and one half. months all three men were dead.

Bland was murdered execution style on Nov 17,2007.

Young was murdered execution style on Dec 24, 2007.

Spence reportedly died from AIDS on Dec 26, 2007.

Norma Jean Young the seventy-six year old mother of Donald Young and a former employee of the Chicago Police revealed to the Globe that her son and Obama had been "close friends", and it was her belief that there was more to the story, and the Chicago Police were shielding or protecting ,"someone."

A drunk Mormon, whats new?.... I have an ex brother in law who is a retired Las Vegas bank president and is a Mormon who drank his brunch, lunch and dinner to the point my sister divorced him.....Once we had a family reunion at his 3 story 3,800 sq. ft., 3 car garage vacation cabin near Cedar city Utah. While there, he took me over to one of his bank executive colleagues modest 4,500 sq. foot vacation cabin and introduced me to several of his Mormon friends who all had classes of scotch in their hands, they offered me a drink, but I had never acquired the taste for scotch so I settled for a glass of 7up. My ex brother-in-law is also a big Latte drinker which Mormons are supposed to frown on also.

I guess it just goes to show, Mormons are no different than the Catholic or Evangelical Taliban who are driven by "Do as I say, not as I do" philosophy.

Well Thank you for that JD, I have worked hard and continue to work hard at what I do, well at least in management if the work is not as hard I still put in a lot of hours when I am on site. Unions have not priced the American auto industry out of existence. At the GM plant where they make the full size vans there is van coming off the assembly line every 54 seconds, with automation since the late seventies and ever expanding in scope human labor is less a factor of the price of a car than it has ever been. Let me give you an example by way of wages and prices. When auto workers made $8.00 an hour you could buy a new car for about $2,500, an auto worker could buy the car he was building for 7.8 weeks worth of wages. Now auto workers make about 35.00 an hour and the cars coat about 30,000 now it take 21.4 weeks worth of wages to buy that car. Mismanagement is a big factor that caused the American auto industry to decline, other countries slapping taxes and tariffs on our products, and a whole host of interconnected and complicated factors but I assure even though it is convenient to blame it on unions negotiating a fair wage and benefits in exchange for a lifetime of work in a factory it is simply not the reason, it isn't even a major factor. They build BMW's here in the states with cheap non union labor, did they lower the price of those cars, are other foreign companies that build here selling their cars at half the price of American brands, you know they are not. If you are talking about Hostess in referring to an American Icon, the unions there all took two separate rounds of concessions, the company filed for bankruptcy was sold and the new owners mismanaged it into bankruptcy again, the people that produced the product that brought all the money in the door had the least to do with that fiasco. This last time the Bakers union had not had contractual payments to their pension fund in over a year, they had no choice but to strike they were not getting paid anyway. You note that none of that stopped management from petitioning the judge for their bonus checks even as everyone else got stiffed. Unions have not outlived their place and time, not in a country where in the last thirty years executive compensation has soared and earning power of workers has steadily declined. The average pay of a CEO in this country is 14 million a year and that is just salary, it does not even count bonuses or stock options, while worker productivity has increased but their earning power decreased. We recently at non union sites buried 29 men alive in a Massey energy mine, we vaporized 11 men on a non union BP oil rig and that list goes on. My union served me well and I tried to serve it well, and my membership in that union and participation in a collective bargaining agreement is the only reason I had the income and more importantly the security of health insurance and a pension fund for my family so that I could risk what was a considerable sum of money pursuing my innovations and patents for them, and then consequently my small consulting business. If you make 12 bucks an hour with no benefits you might have great ideas but you are not in a position to be able to pursue them. I have supported a stay at home wife and raised a family, we never had to depend on the government or charity to pay any medical bills, even though my wife is a cancer survivor and has developed type 2 diabetes, I have had heart surgery and also survived a bout with cancer, when I finally retire or drop dead my wife will be a fairly well off widow and will not depend solely on medicare and social security, and more than anything that is the result of defined contributions to my personal retirement fund negotiated in the collective bargaining agreements I worked many years under. The owners that I negouaited with would never agree to anything they could not afford, they are great businessman that provide the low bid to their customers to get the job, and they make themselves a nice profit while paying the people who produce those profits a fair slice of that pie. I have great respect for both those employers and the union they bargined with, if that kind of relationship has truly outlived itself in America then we are in deep, deep trouble.

Wow...I just realized that "jd" was quoting the "Globe" as a reference.

Tune in next week when "jd" rambles on about the First Lady giving birth to a two-headed, half white pig in a secret Kenyan hospital after being abducted by aliens that secretly rode back on a Mars probe...

"jd"...I take back what I said about deflection. Deflection would require more than your one brain cell to accomplish. You are, however, even more tacky and irrelevant than I had before realized.

I thought the REpublicans has taken enough of a hit as a result of their over the top reacion to that piece of tomfoolery. I guesss it's a knee-jerk reacion (without the knee.)

Thousands of children and teachers are murdered every year by users of this evil product. They are slaughtered on their way to and from school everyday !! Its now time to have stricter regulations if not a full on ban for this evil product. No one has to have alcohol! We need a 5 day waiting period and back ground checks . We need to limit beer to 3 packs and limit all bottles and cans to no more than 1 once. We need to limit the KEG party and women drink free loopholes too.

Ironic, that people who complain about losing freedoms really want everybody to be like them, act like them etc. And call anyone, who doesn't, one name or the other. What do Texans know ? How to let 80,000 pound missles drive 80 miles an hour and don't have enough sense to slow down when they can't see 10 feet in front of themselves.

Us so called liberals in California have whats called a basic speed law.

Never drive faster than the conditions allow. Which supercedes the posted speed limit.

Oh by the way we have a posted speed limit for trucks it is 55.

Granted we do not have all your hog hunter roads. 80 miles an hour is a bit much for a truck.

OK, OK. I get it. All of you Osama Obamahos are chortleing in your scotch this morning. The sad part is this man has a family. You all are crucifying him over having a couple of beers. Jeez get a life. Miss piggy is having a ball with this. Fine. Here's the rub. How many of you have ever drank more than one beer and drove home. Many of us have deserved a DUI. I have never had one. I've been driving since 1970. I have deserved a DUI many times. I'm not proud of this. I'm just not shy about it. Forrest grump probably has boyfriend issues. The republican party is not dead yet. Let's see how Osama Obama does when all of his buddies start getting upset when he has to sign legislation cutting there welfare checks. I really do want to see all our taxes used in the U.S. No foreign aid whatsoever. Two billion dollars to train the poice force of our enemies. What a joke. Let's bring all of our toys and come home. Let the rest of the world see how they can handle things without our money and support. Let's get out of the UN. The UN is going to be the downfall of America. It's a waste of time and energy. It's a waste of our taxe money. I don't care what kind of disaster is happening. There is always something happening elsewhere. I don't care. Let there own governments pay the bill. No foreign aid at all. That should help the budget.

I believe we should get out of the un also and what worries me is the way obama made a big deal about the repubs attacking rice a un ambassador like it was a kingly position. why on earth do we give foreign aide when we don't have enough money for americans? the un wants to redistribute the wealth of america to poorer countries which sounds alot like what obama wants by redistributing the wealth to the poor. I watched a documentary called UNme it showed how messed up the un is.if you can find it i suggest watching although it really raised my blood pressure but opened my eyes to the idiocy of the foundation

WOW look at all the judges we have in this country!!! None of you know the Crapo's yet you decide he's a hypocrite Mormon Republican. I happen to know the Crapo's and they are nice good people. Yes they are Mormon but they are not judgemental like the hypocrites I see on this blog. Driving drunk is wrong, I totally agree and I'm sure Mike Crapo also agree's. Why did he do it? I do not know, and there is no good reason to drive drunk. BUT there are Mormons that drink alcohol, no they are not hypocrites because they drink. He is a good guy, he made a mistake and thank God no one was hurt. He'll pay the price just like any other person does when they get a DUI. Hopefully he'll have learned his lesson. But stop with the BS because the simple fact is many people get DUI's, liberals, conservatives, libratarians, etc... It amazes me how much hate we have in this country. STOP THE HATE! sheesh

As for the one that made the statement of Idaho sure can pick them, if you'd been here you'd understand. Where exactly do you live? I'm sure I could find something wrong with where you live. Idaho is a great place with wonderful people. If you really were here you would know that, I don't hardly believe you've ever been here.

Well well well. Idaho. Another Conservative, Republican bastion.

                                          Let's review Republican Values, Idaho-style.

Sen Larry Craig. A very vocal, anti-gay legislation, gay-hating bigot... He gets caught in an airport mens room trying to get sex from another guy in the next stall.

And now, who follows? Well, we have another VALUES-PREACHING, Magic Underwear Mormon Cultist. Just like Mittens and his Magic Underwear! True Mormons, as you know, don't take in the evils of alcohol. So, this one gets a DUI... and blows over a .10 on the breathalyzer.

Ah yes. Republicans and all their talk about VALUES VALUES VALUES. Kinda like Newt Gingrich pointing the "marital purity" finger at Clinton. While, at the same time, Newt was behaving much, much worse.

It might be easy to appreciate the Republican Party -- except they are such two-faced, dishonest, disingenuous POSs.

Actually...I think this whole incident occurred as Crapo was driving Larry Craig home after picking him up at a truck stop in West Virginia.

oh, crap! crappo is the crapper again.

so, craps, you loose!!! and if his diarrhea doesn't stop soon he is going to be all crapped out.

and how would you refer to his little kids? as those little @!$%#s??? or the little crappos?

and if you had his kids for the weekend you would be described as having 'the crappos' the whole weekend?

and if you were assigned to take one of the kids, you would be told to ''take a crappo''? just wondering.

crappo is a @!$%#ty name, that is for sure. but mr crapper invested the toilet so i guess we should doff our hats to crapper. crappo, not so much.

Kennedy was catholic, and while they are a cult too, at least they are well known to approve alcohol. The mormons don't even drink Coke, technically - caffeine is a no-no, much less booze.

What better mentor could he have than Speaker Boehner, who is a World Class drunk in the same league as the late Speaker Patrick Moynihan?

Speaker Boehner is often heard slurring his speech in front of the microphones and TV cameras by 10:00 in the morning. I'd say that's a good enough mentor for any member of the Congressional delegation.

Maybe it's time for our Congress to serve as an example, and agree to random drugs and alcohol testing?

Or he could be mentored by Dubya. Did you see the news footage of Dubya reeling pickled at the Olympics toward the last days of his "Presidency?" The secret service had to help him into his seat.

Most of us live in "glass houses," and can't be too holier-than-thou. But then again, most of us are not elected officials, especially so-called "social conservatives."

I see some well-publicized rehab and AA ahead for Sen. Crappo. Maybe this will serve to make him more compassionate. Maybe, but don't hold your breath.

Actually what I'd heard is that if you bring one Mormon fishing you didn't bring enough beer, but if you bring two Mormons you brought too much beer. But that's just what I've heard.

I live in a glass house, so I won't judge him. However, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) should definately abstain from alcohol. It's a commandment, not a suggestion.

So we have an old joke in Utah . Here it is, why do you take 2 Mormons fishing with you instead of 1?

Because if you take 1 he will drink all your booze if you take 2 they will not drink infront of each other...

                                              Not a useful analogy.

Because AAA doesn't try to flood our country with as much booze as possible, lobbying for an end to all alcohol related laws, while telling us "Alcohol doesn't kill people, people kill people"

Your analogy doesn't make sense. And the NRA should be blamed for much of the crime involving guns, because the NRA is unreasonable in its opposition to any form of gun control.

                                              Lib -

WHY? The NRA backs the lawful use of firearms, not the gangbangers and other criminals who happen to use guns in the performance of their crimes.

By the way, gangbangers are not found int he NRA. However, I think you'll find plenty of them in liberal bastions like NYC, Chicago, L.A. and Detroit.

I'm so sorry you have trouble getting your mind around the fact that the freedom to have guns is guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.

Well, the AAA could be blamed for replacing all the railroads with highways. Great for mobility, but terrible for accidents and bad fuel mileage. I love the highways, but we need the railroads too.

If traffic cops had bazookas and used them, the incidences of running red lights would drastically be curtailed. I love discussions where common sence prevails

Tammy - your ignorance is only overshadowed by your eagerness to post it. The 2nd amendment that the NRA hides behind so often was for people to be armed if there was NO militia - which we have. Also, it was written when muskets were the worst weapons anyone owned. If you want a musket, I have no problem with that. I actually have no problem with a handgun or a rifle used for hunting.

However, only an idiot believes there is a need for assault weapons; armor piercing bullets; and ammo clips of greater than 10. People who want these weapons kept legal are the problem. LaPierre heads the biggest terrorist group in the country and is delighted everytime a citizen is killed - shows his buddies are doing just what he wants them to do!

Laws are for wussies...we had prohibition laws at one time....did not like them and never payed attention. Maybe if all the NRA members ignore the gun laws they will go away as well? I will drink to that. Cheers and Merry Christmas to ALL my Mormon Friends.

                                              In "tammy's" world:

                                              NRA = White

                                              Gangbangers = Black

Let only the white people have guns, right, "tammy"? We get your drift, "tammy".

Isn't this article about a Republican Mormon getting a DUI?? Maybe "tammy" was not able to figure that out. Poor little thing.

The State of Michigan had a Governor Crapo from 1865-68. There was a "Crapo Street" in a township near us. Some people moved in, didn't like living on "Crapo Street"--I think the street sign was stolen frequently, too--so they petitioned to get the street name changed. Everybody settled on "Governor Crapo Street" as the new name. Still makes for a funny street sign. I'd bet this guy and the Gov are related.

I thought it was done to immorally and unethically win more seats in Congress. But no! Congressional Districts are manipulated by Karl Rove and his sick Republican buddies so that there will be plenty of bars within the District. Now they can go out and get drunk after lying all day to their constituents.

The French word for toad is crapeaud which is pronounced very much like this senator's family name. But he is a mormon, so I suspect that his bishop will be ready to rip him a new one too.

A 'smart' move might be to step down, or get some lessons from John Boehner.

"tammy" calling someone else a hypocrite is only proof that "tammy" has absolutely no clue what the word means.

Invisible Hand, why the unneeded correction? I am alway surprised by some people's need to bring other's down because they used the wrong, noun, adjective, punctuation, etc. I am just happy that someone learned an important lesson in life. My response to people who unnecessarily criticize: Do you feel better? If you do, that's really sad. But if it's what you need to do to feel good about yourself, I hope the person you attacked is able to understand that your issue is not about them.

Now you can take on the next challenge: English grammar.

I tend to agree with you, Rebus. The last time I corrected someone's grammar, however, I did something silly like spelling the word people as "peple"...

Cop was most likely a Democrat and arrestted him falsely since mormons don't drink .

Tthat reminds me of the story about the the front of the Catholic Priest's car that had a collision with the rear of a Rabbi's car at a traffic light in Boston. The police were called. Paddy O'Sullivan showed up and promptly issued a ticket to the Rabbi for backing his car into the the front of the Priest's car.

Clayton - nice try but the Senator admitted he was under the influence - so he had been drinking. Try reading the article again and you'll see how totally foolish your post is.

Now we're getting his mug shot (and what's with the asymmetrical eyes?) instead of the 2008 photo. The article no longer contains any reference to Crapo's party affiliation. But yeah, not tough to figure out!

Indeed Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ARE supposed to abstain from alcohol. Senator Crapo SHOULD lose his Temple Recommendation for this infraction. If he is not a Jack Mormon ( a non practicing Mormon) this means no more trips to the DC Temple for him, or any other LDS Temple for that matter until he squares it with the bishop of the ward he attends. But because he is a US senator he will no doubt just get a slap on the wrist from the church AND the judicial system. It pays to have money and connections in this world and the next apparently!!!!!

VAWA mandates automatic arrest, restraining orders and prosecution obliterating the rights of the ACCUSED (often based upon nothing) in the name of justice.

Mr. Crapo - obviously you are a danger to society and can't make good decisions (and this is beyond just an accusation) - why aren't you spending at least 3 days in jail, receiving an automatic restraining order that forces you out of your home and doesn't allow you to see your spouse or family, why aren't you having all of your assets taken away until you fight for them in court (say 1 to 3 years from now) and why isn't your case going to be automatically prosecuted with the verdict pre-determined before any trial is even held. This is what you are propose with VAWA - all of these insidious laws should be applied to now you sick piece of crap.

It does not obliterate rights, but intervenes in a domestic violent situation before somebody is killed. The accused gets their day in court; they just don't get to kill a woman first. I used to hear a woman at work talk about her ex; it took her over a year to even admit that he was a problem. He beat her so much that it ruptured her spleen, putting her into critical condition, and she still didn't want to leave him. Sometimes the intervention is necessary. Get real. Maybe Crapo isn't so bad if he supported that.

And as for Crapo- at-least he is being a man and admitting to it-taking responsibility-unlike other i could name. He is not trying to hide behind some bull@!$%# loophole, or sweep it under the rug. Doesn't make it right- but he is not the 1st to do this and wont be the last. He is human just like the rest of us. I am glad their is sooo many perfect people on here that have never been in trouble with the law. Just keep hiding behind your computers up on your crosses, because it sucks walking around down here with the rest of us that aren't perfect. If you do fall off your cross you might catch a glimpse of yourself in a mirror and not like what you see.

Like Obama, he didn't have the back bone to take any blame. It was about 2 o'clock in the morning and claimed Congressional privilage. He was taken home to sober up and the incident wasn't reported. After it became public, he checked himself into rehab but faced no charges.

You are correct. The Kennedys and the democrats are apecial with special priviledges including the media.

I would drink too if I had to deal with this naracissist president and his lapdog Harry Reid.

We think the $4,000,000.00 trip to Hawaii would have better served using those tax $$$ to keep the staff and SS in DC and use it to help the Sandy people get power and food and heat. The 50+ Christams trees mrs. O had put up in the White House could have been given to the Sandy people and the ornament money used for their food and heat and utilities and clothing and bedding.

                                                                    MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I been working my ass off this month, even putting in 62-hour work weeks, while these GnoP clowns party as they hold our nation hostage. And, for what? So they can protect the tax-break entitlements of their billionaire/millionaire "friends"????

My last paycheck was a gross pay of $1,224 for a 62 hour work week, but the net pay was only $972 from that same goddamn paycheck? Do the match on how high a percentage of my income goes to paying taxes, already, here in 2012.

So these drunken, underaged-page-molesting, airport-samesex-engaging, running-for-president-without-really-wanting-to, devoid-of-integrity republicans want to send our nation over a cliff and increas MY already high taxes even higher, just because they want to please their billionaire/millionaire china-jobs creators?
