“In a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, it’s the message that appears to be the problem, not the messengers who are delivering it,” the Washington Post writes. “A majority of Americans (53 percent) say the Republicans’ problem is that they are overly conservative and unconcerned ‘with the welfare of the people, particularly those in the lower and middle income levels.’ By contrast, 38 percent say the bigger issue is that Republicans ‘need a better leader to explain and win support’ for their policies. The Republican Party faced similar questions in 1949, after losing the previous five presidential contests. (Today, the party has lost the popular vote in five out of the last six elections.)”

Well, it's not easy (for the GOPeaParty) to make a reasoned argument when their ideology is absurd.
But, this is what happens when those at the very top are allowed disproportionate power in our political system. The middle class has always been the engine of our economy. When the middle class began to lose economic clout, our national economic tail-spin began.
It's (past) time for a RE-redistribution of wealth in this nation. Change the rules now from top to bottom.
Written like a true under acheiving whiny sorry excuse for an American! Give me! Give Me! Give Me! you make me sick.
Ah ozzieyo1 Don't be so hard on yourself
Republicans making arguments over tax cuts for the Top 2% wealthiest Americans is something that the Top 2% wealthiest Americans are NOT even asking for, i.e., the GOP is making an argument that nobody but the GOP wants.
I'm beginning to feel as though Republican politicians are fighting for tax cuts for themselves, and no one else.
nobody is saying cut the top 2% taxes just don't raise them?
The evolution of Liberalism/Progressivism.
1960’s “Ask not what your country can do for you”
2000’s “Give us free stuff and make the rich taxpayers foot the bill”
You’ve come a long way Libbies.
This is the problem we have today. Liberals/Progressives have no desire whatsoever to fix the economy. Their only goal is to protect all their unsustainable entitlements and social programs at any cost, even to the point of collapsing our economy.
The manner in which Liberals/Progressives view taxes is so dysfunctional it’s hard to explain. Here is an example of the convoluted thinking of Liberals. This was actually posted on another thread on Newsvine.
This is the delusional mind of a Liberal/Progressive.
The economy means nothing to them. It’s all about their little bleeding-heart emotions. They readily admit they just want to punish the successful Americans because they can’t compete at that level. This is all about how it makes them “feel”. How irrational and bizarre is this type of thinking?
This is exactly how the indoctrination of Liberals/Progressives by their government idols has created this disconnect. They have been told by their parents, family, friends, teachers and their sacrosanct government that the best they can achieve is to be middle-class. This is the class-warfare/envy brainwashing that Barrack Hussein and the rest of the Ivy League faculty lounge statists have succeeded with. They allow the useful idiots their middle-class status while the elitists assume the Bourgeoisie power over them.
The biggest concern is how many Americans are willingly submitting to this Proletariat lifestyle. Our great Republic used to be a proud, ambitious and independent people. Today they are consumed with self-pity and dependence on a cartoon-like description of their life as promoted by Barrack Husseins “Life of Julia”. Liberals/Progressives have accepted the elitists position that the middle class is just there to serve the government bureaucrats.
So, Liberals don’t care about our great country and its future, all they care about is “feeling” that their life is “fair”. The saddest part is, none of them can define fair.
This is the embarrassment of Liberalism/Progressivism.
Boehner seems like a nice enough guy and he gets along well with the President, but he is powerless among his own Republican House Members.
Boehner is a very weak Leader, I think it's because he wants to do the right thing, but the GOP refuses to follow his lead, probably because Boehner gets along well with the President which is taboo to the GOP.

How are you going to pay for that Lie Called the War in Iraq without money? China will NOT accept Food Stamps or spending cuts to repay all those loans, they want cash.
Wealthy businesses are making record profits but they're not hiring, and if they don't hire then they're not expanding the tax base.
So, if they'd rather stack cash instead of hiring workers and/or giving workers proper raises and fringe benefits so that workers can go out and spend, then they're going to have to pay those taxes themselves.
Tax cuts for the rich is what Mitt Romney campaigned on, and "Trickle Down Economics" is the Republican Brand. So if you think this is NOT about tax cuts for the rich, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
It's already paid for DA.

What's "already paid for"?
Certainly you're not trying to say that Lie Called the War in Iraq is "paid for" because if it was our debt wouldn't be as high as it is.
Whatever you claim is "paid for" please provide your source of information, cause I'm sure everyone in the United States and China would like to know.
So you're saying that the higher taxes are all going to be earmarked for retiring the debt? If so I think you could get a lot more conservatives on board. Sad thing is you and I both know that is not going to happen.
Hmmmm, Republican brand? Really?
So, what do you call the abysmal failure called the $timulu$? Remember? We poured $863 billion into the top of our government and expected it to "trickle down" into all those jobs. What was the name of all those alleged jobs again? Weren't they something like "shovel ready", or some nonsense like that?
Weren't those the same jobs that Barrack Hussein and our illustrious "Jobs Czar, Jeff Immelt", laughed in your face about as Barrack said, "Shovel-ready was not as ... uh .. shovel-ready as we expected"?
Ouch, that had to hurt.
At least Reagans trickle-down created 20 million real jobs, not these low-wage/low-no benefit jobs Barrack Hussein is creating.

Yes, that's right, and Republicans never learn a thing.
Republicans have already tried responding to everything with nothing more than a negative comment about President Obama, but, as ususal, the GOP has nothing to stand on, which is clearly why you have nothing constructive or productive to contribute.

As long as there are Republicans and Democrats in Washinton, D.C., the Debt will never "retire".
Just as we saw after Bill Clinton paid down the debt, balanced the budget, and had a $450 billion dollar surplus in the Treasury, another politician will come along like George "Curveball" Bush did and lie and cheat his way into the White House to get his hands on that $450 billion dollar surplus.
We all know what happens after that -- They start a war because war guarantees a second term.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
Nice try at deflection my poor lil Liberal bobblehead.
You still didn't answer my question.
It's OK, we real Americans have become used to you Libbies being unable to defend your positions other than with projection.
I'd take a little time to teach you about the success of Reagans "trickle down" as compared to Barrack Husseins "trickle to cronies" economics but I know it will just go over your head. Your indoctrination is complete.
You have been brainwashed by your parents, peers, family, teachers and now our "Statist-in-Chief" into believing the best you can become is middle class. Success is off-limits to you and everyone else because Barrack insists only the faculty-lounge elitists should have privilege as you work harder and harder for them. It's so sad to see so many Americans fall to your knees and submit to a government who could care if you're happy or not, as long as you keep giving them your hard earned money or face punishment. That is the "freedom" and "liberty" you have accepted.
We real Americans believe we, and even you, can be more than just middle-class.
It's a shame you're so weak as to not believe that too.
WOW!!!!!
Billy "Blue Dress" Clinton paid down the debt? Really? What year was that? I don't remember any year between 1992 and 2000 that had zero debt.
And the new mythical “surplus” number is now $450 billion? Wow, this goes up every year. Amazing how that can happen over 12 years later, isn’t it?
I'll assume your babbling about that mythical Clinton budget surplus. And of course the value of that "surplus" changes daily as you Libbies just make the numbers up as you go along because THERE NEVER WAS ANY SURPLUS!!!!!!!
If there was a true surplus there must be a year in our National Debt history that was lower than the preceding year. I challenge you to show me what year that was?
Don't bother, there never was one. All Billy boy did, was what every president has done since your boy-toy LBJ changed the accounting system for the Social Security Trust Fund. He manipulated the Intragovernmental Holdings and the Public Debt, both of which make up the National Debt.
If you don't believe me here's the link to the U.S. Treasury, you can look it up from there I'm sure.

Good luck!
Sorry AG Newt and the republican congress balanced the budget dragging Bill Clinton along all the way.

Dragging President Clinton? Are you mad?
If that's the case, then why haven't Republicans ever done it again?
Obama and Boehner.......
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy". ~ MARTIN LUTHER KING JR
How many times can you hear "no taxes for the rich" before you start to boil?
How many times can you hear "we are going to try to reduce the debt by taking funds from the huge 2.6 trillion social security paid in advance fund" before you start to boil?
It's really the media giving cover to the policies and the messengers of the republican party.
The truest statement ever made, "the Republicans’ problem is that they are overly conservative and unconcerned ‘with the welfare of the people, particularly those in the lower and middle income levels". this is true, all the republicans care about is getting reelected, nothing else.
BTW: They think their ticket to reelection is catering to the tea people.
The problem with the republicans is, they're messengers can't hide from their policies anymore. The majority of the country has seen through their lies and sees how they're really trying to destroy this country for their own monetary and political gain.
The only message problem that the GOP has is that it is not getting the message the American people are sending them. Americans are very clear about what they want.
As long as they only listen to their corporate sponsors, the money people that fund their elections, this will never change.
