More: The replacements

Ben Affleck for Senate?

But wait – how about Ted Kennedy? “Could Massachusetts get another Ted Kennedy in the Senate?” Politico asks. “Ted Kennedy Jr., son of the late Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy and brother of former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy, would instantly be the leading Democratic candidate in the special election to replace Sen. John Kerry, assuming he’s nominated as secretary of state.”

“The American Civil Liberties Union sued Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson for refusing to issue drivers’ licenses and identification cards to illegal immigrants covered by President Barack Obama’s ‘deferred action’ directive,” Business Week writes. “Announced in June, that initiative lets those who came to the U.S. illegally before age 16, have been in the country for at least five years, have no criminal record and are in either school or have completed a high school education, remain and to obtain a work permit.”

The Telegraph: “Three young undocumented immigrants who have been authorised to live and work in the US under Barack Obama's deportation reprieve have filed a lawsuit challenging a Michigan state policy that denies them driving licenses. They say the ban defies common sense, violates the US constitution and runs contrary to the Michigan governor's goal of his state coming to be the most ‘pro-immigration’ in the nation. Michigan is one of three states to deny driving licenses to those who have recently been granted special ‘deferred status’, after entering the country illegally as children.”

Since most States have 'Motor Voter' provisions that allow people to sign up for voting when they get their driver's license, does that mean that illegals will register to vote as well?

And since when does a temporary 'Executive Order' negate existing State laws?

Presidents are not allowed to arbitrarily make laws - this is a Democracy, not a Dictatorship.

Roy, of course you had no problem with Dubya doing the same thing, or did you?

Whoever replaces Kerry needs to be a Massacheucetts liberal so we keep the balance in the Senate.

Hmmm...The ACLU could lose that one. But not sure that Obama issued any such "directive" technically. What he did do was approve of the Homeland Security Secretary's decision not to prosecute illegal aliens falling into that category, on the basis of prosecutorial discretion, which does have some foundation in law.

But, the point is that the Obama Administration didn't say the illegal aliens were not breaking the law; they did not deny that. Only said they wouldn't prosecute them for it. Hence, in the "eyes" of the State of Michigan, whose law presumably prohibits illegal aliens from being awarded a driver's license, they could still be refused a license.

And, no...even in States that issue driver's licenses to illegals, the license would not qualify them to vote.

Unless you reside illegally in California, where for $60 or so USD, an illegal can obtain a drivers license, a voter card, and a SS#.

      Happens everyday in LA.

        Not legally.

It does allow the illegals to get a job. Many collect benefits, see the go vernment websites that inform illegals how to collect Uncle's money, then work for cash.

When you see them at the supermarket paying for items in $100 bills after paying with the welfare card for those items provided by food-stamps.

          Amazing.
