Key State Department official resigns in wake of Benghazi report

The assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security has resigned and three other officials have been relieved of duty after a report criticized the State Department over the attacks on U.S. diplomats in Benghazi, Libya, the department said late Wednesday.

State Department spokesperson Victoria J. Nuland confirmed that Eric Boswell had resigned and said three other officials had been relieved of duties pending . Two of the others worked in the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and one in the Bureau of Near East Affairs.

Nuland did not name the other three, but a U.S. official told NBC News that one was Charlene Lamb, Boswell’s deputy assistant secretary of state for international programs. Earlier reports had said that Boswell, Lamb and another unidentified official had resigned.

The resignations come after the release of the Accountability Review Board Report on the attacks on the U.S. Mission in Benghazi, Libya, which faulted the State Department and specifically the Bureau of Diplomatic Security for "grossly inadequate" security.

Here’s Nuland’s full statement:

"The ARB identified the performance of four officials, three in the Bureau of the Diplomatic Security and one in the Bureau of Near East Asia Affairs.  The Secretary has accepted Eric Boswell's decision to resign as Assistant Secretary for Diplomatic Security, effective immediately.   The other three individuals have been relieved of their current duties.  All four individuals have been placed on administrative leave pending further action."

Guess this sums up 'who' was responsible:

On Tuesday the Accountability Review Board (ARB) blamed State Department officials for "systemic failures and leadership and management deficiencies" that led to the protection for the Benghazi facility that was "grossly inadequate to deal with the attack that took place."

The board found that despite repeated requests from American diplomats in Libya that the number of security staff in Benghazi on the day of the attack was inadequate.

Guess who is in charge at the SD? Oh, that's is Hillary.

Fat chance she will ever win in 2016. Hopefully she will save herself the embarrasment of running. If she can't run 1 Department there is no way she could hope to run the Country. Not that she would have had the chance anyway.

The sad thing is that Kerry is much worse. He is a coward and a traitor, but I guess we can't expect any better from the powers that be.

Wish he would have been tried for treason along with his friends Jane Fonda and Tom (whatshisname). He is a disgrace to everyone that ever wore the uniform. Before you get on the bandwagon about him being a 'decorated war veteran' go study all the facts on that and not just your Demogogery.

They have been on leave during the entire Obama administration. The United States has been on auto pilot for 4 years. None of the administration assumes RESPONSIBILITY for anything that happens negatively, only steals credit for what others do positively. This administration keeps the buck rolling back to the GOP and doesn't stop at Obama. He is not a LEADER what so ever. This is why he ran a garbage of a campaign since he had not one (1) accomplishment to his credit. No past president has accomplished what Obama has done with no credits to his name. He is worst than Jimmy Carter!

Seems a little late for that in house cleaning. At least at Pearl Harbor it was a dirty sneak attack, but at Benghazi they had plenty of advanced warnings. Then again, how magnanimous of Hillary and the Big O to 'accept full responsibility', and are going to take steps for better security. Hey folks, the horse left the barn a long time ago.

Why is the USA Homeland Security agency buying billions of .40 caliber hollow point ammo recently. No public outcry about that when it was reported in the news. Why did FEMA hire 212 new agents under the age of 24 to become first responders if a national disaster hit. Were they present when Hurrican Sandy rolled ashore ? No they were safe and sound in their four barracks around the Washington DC area. Why aren't these agents spread accross the country and who is their Fuher ? Film at Eleven PM on the News when they start knocking on your doors at 6 AM

The trouble with Obama is this....He started out in 07 blaming Bush...continued blaming Bush for everything...in 2011 he was still blaming Bush..He continues to Blame someone for everything...he has not shown me that he is a leader....A leader is one who stands up and takes the hit when he should, but he hasn't, doesn't and won't take the hit...Truman said it right...'The buck stops here' with Obama it stops everywhere else and not with him....

and will: a) write a book and make millions, b) be paid off with millions to tell the truth or not tell the truth if the truth is not classified which would mean it will never come out if it is because of national security, c) go work for a contractor or tv station or radio station or....

It is so sad to see that our leaders are such liars and don't care about the regular people. Guess we have to live with it. Hopefully it will change but I have my doubts. Well it's been a good 300 year run. All good things must end. e.g. Rome

Our forefathers put 100 years on the longevity of the government the way they set it up originally. We did prove them wrong. Now it is time for the USA to collapse under a socialist government and a new revolution. This administration has almost divided America down the middle. Next year should prove very interesting, to say the least!

Benghazi is going to become a "Whitehouse Wash".

Just like fast and furious, these actions go way up the line. The Obama Administration will just retire a few bureaucrats early to become lobbyist in payment for sucking it up.

Too bad Hillary is going to have a lack of memory now that she hit her head.
