President Barack Obama wipes his eye as he speaks during a previously unannounced appearance in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House on Dec. 4, 2012
An emotional President Barack Obama led the nation in mourning the victims of an elementary school massacre on Friday, speaking from the White House following the shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The president not only pledged to assist investigations into the shooting, but also became openly emotional upon reflecting upon the many school children killed or injured in today's mass shooting.
"The majority of those who died today were children -- beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10-years-old," he said, pausing to wipe away a tear. "They had their entire lives ahead of them -- birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own."
Watch President Barack Obama speak about the Newtown shooting from the White House on Dec. 14, 2012.
"Our hearts are broken today, for the parents, grandparents, sisters and brothers of these little children," Obama added, "as well as the families of the adults who were lost."
The president said that he has become all too familiar with making statements of grief following mass shooting incidents, referencing recent events at a mall this week in Oregon, at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin in August, and at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., in August.

Those events -- along with a January 2011 attack in Arizona that severely injured then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and left six others dead -- have done little to provoke political action to rein in gun violence.
"As a country, we have been through this too many times," he said.
In his remarks Friday, the president suggested that the time might have come for some sort of work to prevent similar tragedies.
"We're going to have to come together to take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics," he said.
In the meanwhile, the president said he was in contact with Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy and other government officials to provide them with adequate resources. Obama also ordered that flags be flown at half-staff through sunset on Dec. 18.
"While nothing can fill the space of a lost loved one or a child, all of us can extend a hand to those in need," reminded the president.

Where the hell are the people in this country? This isn't just President Obama's problem. It's everyone's responsibility to do something.
You republicans. Yes, YOU! You call yourselves citizens?
You complain to high heaven about Susan Rice and talking points regarding an embassy killing.
What you YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS!
Children are being killed for Gsakes.
Pat, that was the most ridiculous, heartless finger pointing post I have seen in some time. This is a national, every citizen problem. Put the damned politics in your frigging back pocket for a few hours and STFU if you can.
Pat Boston MA.
You republicans. Yes, YOU! You call yourselves citizens?
You complain to high heaven about Susan Rice and talking points regarding an embassy killing.
What you YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS!
Very well said Pat. But as you know the right loves drama. So they'll give us another sequel to follow just like they did FAST & FURIOUS and
Benghazi-gateSvengali-gate. FOX has a habit of getting pissy when other news outlets don't comment on their fiction; so they run loops 24/7 until other news outlets pick up on it.Stay tuned
I have to wonder if this guy was a gamer. Some people become immune to the violence these violent games portray. Just wondering. My heart is broken for these families. I cant imagine being in their shoes right now. God help them please.
Pat Boston MA.
One needn't know the emotion you possessed while typing your post. You are right to be outraged - We should ALL be outraged. And, it's beyond high time that Congress start getting serious about gun control and mental illness. I wonder how many more children must needlessly die before Congress gets its ass in gear ...
This isn't about republicans you moron. It's about lousy parents that ignore their kids form birth to chase their own careers and dreams rather than put time into their own kids. Out of need for attention, they do heinous things like this. Maybe would should arm the teachers to at least provide some defense. Or you can keep trying to rely on government to fix it.
I don't think the "finger pointing" is lost on lots of people. Repubs are in bed with the NRA and will not vote for a ban on assualt weapons in our Country. That's not politics..that's facts!!! There is absolutely no reason for anyone to have such weapons other than our Military. You certainly don't hunt Doves, Deer with such fierce guns. You are the ones that needs to STFU!!
Yes the Republicans are the problem. They are responsible, all shooters are somehow now Repbulicans! Get rid of all of them and the NRA while we're at it and there will never be another rampager. Hey wasn't Jared Loughner an independent? Maybe we should remove all of them to ght gulags as well while we're at it.
Here Here Boris- lostsanumbers.
@duchess1
Was there an assault weapon? No, there were two handguns. Are you that stupid to suggest that the type of weapon matters? A person will kill with any kind of gun. Because it looks scary, you should ban it?
Think of how many gamers there are, and then think about how many of them go on a rampage.
I have yet to see a Republican advocate for a commonsense solution to any problem: fiscal cliff? gun violence? violence in the middleeast? It's always the Democrats who address these problems, and try to do something. Sorry, Hand, if you don't like it, talk to your Republican leaders.
No time for fingerpointing here. The loss of our children is a loss for each and every single American. Period.
I weep for these children, now gone....I weep for their parents, their lives forever changed in ways you and I will never begin to understand....I weep for brothers and sisters who will bear the mark of this pain for their lifetimes. All of America, we hang our heads...we stand quietly.....we weep.
Take a moment a pray for the families.
I'm a moderate republican and have said we need to address the 2nd amendment and ratify it to reflect modern times. There is NO reason for a civilian to need automatic or semi-automatic weapons EVER.
THEN we need to address the mental health issue in this nation, which is the BIGGER issue...especially combined with prescription drugs that can lead to possible scenarios like we had today.
The COMBINATION of the two leads to scenarios from this past week (Mall shooting, school shooting). The first one (the guns) don't kill people solo. They kill people easily in the hands of MENTALLY UNSTABLE individuals. There are plenty of stories where individuals have saved loved ones and themselves from home intruders and robbers due to the right to have a gun.
I've been a gamer my entire life, since the PONG and the Atari 2600 all the way up to console games today. Never been convicted of a crime or anything ever. Never taken an illegal drug. Played AD&D as a kid growing up (which is a great game for creative minds and especially writers and artists).
This has nothing to do with gaming. Please stop the stupid generalization posts.
It has EVERYTHING to do with MENTAL HEALTH.
BTW...Obama that was a very heartfelt and kind speech. Thumbs up.
Wow... really? AGAIN... they have asked for no politics YET that is all that is being spewed. No wonder things are jacked up nowadays. STOP the nonsense.
Boris, I'm sick and tired of the excuses for people killing others.
GET RID OF THE GUNS. PERIOD.
The laws need to be changed. We are a violent society and we all have to deal with it.
But don't you worry. This will all be forgotten in a few days, until the next killing happens.
And guns will still be available. Haven't you heard? Guns will be allowed in schools soon.
The problem is society and our irresponsible uncaring representatives who are too afraid to stand up to the NRA and gun toting lunatics.
Suggesting this is a republican versus democrat thing is ridiculous. This is a human condition thing. What have you done about this? Vote? Apparently that did not work. If you want the republicans to do something about it, perhaps they should ban democrats from having guns since both the Aurora, Colorado shooter and this shooter were democrats? Of course that is ridiculous. So is making this a republican vs. democrat debate.
Be active.... contact your representatives in the house and senate for both parties.... contact your govenor's office. Make sure they know your priorities. Making emotional posts about political parties anonymously on web sites does very little except drive the gap between political parties wider.
I'm sure the president was partially talking about gun control...but I think he's also talking about the bigger picture.
How is it possible that people just "snap" and do something like this?
How is it possible that NO ONE in this persons life knew they were mentally unstable, even if they didnt know they were capable of this?
Why is it that when these tragedies happen we just chalk them up to "well you cant stop a crazy person with a gun, and hell no you arent taking our guns, just live with it - this is the new normal"...
sorry, I dont want to take away everyones guns...but I also dont want to accept this is the "new normal" just because YOU think there's nothing we can do.
if we can spend billions and billions and approaching trillions chasing down boogeymen in the middle east, I think it's time we start chasing down american terrorists who are hellbent on doing evil like this.
Boris - you have NO IDEA THAT THIS YOUNG MAN WASN'T RAISED WITH A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION! You're making up your lies as you go along. With a mothere who is a teacher, my guess is he had a GREAT DEAL of attention. The teachers I know are great parents.
And, arming teachers? Only a total moron would believe THAT is the answer. Let's just have a shootout on every street! Will you be happy then????
And SS,
My wife is a teacher assistant and LOVES her kids (title 1 school) to the point of taking family time to do things for them. While I don't know the circumstances as does anyone else, perhaps the shooter, in his early 20's, felt that too much of her attention was given to those students in her classroom. We don't know the details of why he killed his father, then the mother and her whole class. Something was missing. Don't jump to conclusions that all teachers know what even their own children feel.
You don't need a gun.
Whether you are Republican, Democrat, Independent pro gun control or against it; people all over the country are sharing anger, sadness and pure shock at the tragedy that has occurred.
This is a very real and terrible situation that has occurred. What has been happening in the last few years in this country is a huge problem.
I can not begin to imagine what it will be like for a father, mother, brother or sister to instead of celebrating the holiday season as a family will be comforting each other and leaving presents for a lost child to be left unopened. These are kids who will never see another holiday season again. Makes me sick knowing what has happened today
Pat, my dear friend...
I wish I could vote for you comment #1 a hundred times...
When will we as a supposed civilived society say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH???
"GET RID OF THE GUNS. PERIOD."
There's a problem with that Pat- THUGS AND GANGSTERS WILL NOT GIVE THEIR GUNS INTO THE AUTHORITIES. Fully-automatic weapons are illegal in America, yet gangsters carry around Uzis and other sub machine guns. If guns were banned 2 months ago, the same thing still would have happened today- 27 people getting killed. Criminals, no matter how hard you try, will always find/make their own guns.
There's plenty of proof that if you have better mental and social programs/health programs along with tough gun laws that you don't need to get rid of guns. Ask Canada, Northern Europe, etc.
Jessica...personally to me, I believe it's because people have become unaware to whats going on around them because they are too busy with themselves, their social networking, head in their device instead of paying attention to the ones around them. I definitely think from growing up in the late 80s, early 90s as a teen that we definitely we much more aware of everything and friends because we interacted in front of them...now everything is so cold and distance due to devices.
When the NFL player killed himself the other week, his QB said something that I think hits the nail on the head..and how we seem to be missing clues and signs something is wrong with someone close to us...
He said
"When you ask someone how they are doing, do you really mean it? When you answer someone back how you are doing, are you really telling the truth?" he said.
"We live in a society of social networks, with Twitter pages and Facebook, and that's fine, but we have contact with our work associates, our family, our friends, and it seems like half the time we are more preoccupied with our phone and other things going on instead of the actual relationships that we have right in front of us.
Republicans are targeted (poor choice of words, but accurate) by the NRA. It's all about the money with Republicans. Democrats are more willing to consider banning assault weapons, at the least, but they think they won't be re-elected if they try to sponsor legislation. Whatever weapon was used this time, if adequate background checks were in place, it could prevent more of these attacks in the future. In any case, it's time to make the NRA irrelevant and stop them from setting national policy.
You can't call out Republicans for gun stuff when the Democratic base has a whole social aspect from a big part of their voting base that promotes violence and guns in the form of music, violence against women, lyrics and videos.
BTW...this individual could have walked into that school with a knife and killed his mother and then the poor kindergardners just the same. The gun just made it much quicker to accomplish.
Not saying we don't need tougher gun laws, because we damn well do...but mentally unstable people can accomplish many things via various means. Explosion, knives, car/truck, etc.
Hey Talk To The Hand:
I live in CT not too far from the scene of this tragedy. My kids go to public school in an adjacent town. Don't be so naive to think that politics is divorced from this. EVER! Make no mistake, these types of incidents are brought to us in part courtesy of the NRA and the gun lobby that have used the political process to create and protect a gun culture. In doing so, they have achieved their goals of dulling America's sensibilities to these horrific crimes and almost expect us to accept them as just the unfortunate byproduct of Constitutional guarantees and protections. They have also succeeded in silencing reasonable dialog about gun control. It is no longer part of the national political discourse, at either the presidential or congressional level. It's no wonder that, according to FBI statistics, during that same time incidents of mass murders (defined as gun violence resulting in more than 3 deceased per incident) has increased exponentially.
Yes, this is a sad and tragic day for us Nutmeggers (CT citizens) and all Americans. But it will be replicated and worsen unless we elevate reasonable gun control legislation to the national level and beat back the NRA and their lummoxes (famous for inanely blaming people rather than gun access).
BTW gun freaks, no one is talking about taking your guns. Get fu**in' real! I'm a student of history, a lawyer and a Constitutional hawk. You cannot cobble enough brain cells together to frame an argument insisting that the Framers intended gun ownership and maintainance of a well-armed militia to supercede this type of assault on American life and society. Enough is enough, damn it!
James, haven't you heard?
No one cares about unstable people any longer. Their programs are cut. We can't afford them since the wealthy want their tax cuts. And of course the wars no one thought to pay for.
Boris numbers:
The weapons of choice in this instance were a Glock and a Sig Sauer semi-automatic; WMD's in my book.
You might not have noticed it, but none of the 8 mass killings that happened this year were carried out by professional Thugs or Gangsters. Professional thugs and gangsters do not go against rampages against private citizens for no reason whatsoever.
Basically, your argument is "we can't make sure that NO ONE dies of gun violence, so let's not do anything about it."
Let me ask you a pretty simple question...would you prefer a 0.1% chance of getting shot by a random killer or would you prefer a 10% chance?
It's way past time for throwing blame, it's time to address the issue, gun control, and mental health issues. Some people like to talk about how "exceptional" we Americans are, well, it's time to grow up, and do the right thing. This cannot go on, those were kindergarteners who were slaughtered today. If they had guns they wouldn't know how to use them. Stop pretending this is not a gun problem, it is and the time to do something sane is now. Wrecked families, children scared to death, no more, God, please, no more. It's time to act. We are not exceptional if we cannot protect the children anymore.

I have to wonder if this guy was a gamer. Some people become immune to the violence these violent games portray. Just wondering. My heart is broken for these families. I cant imagine being in their shoes right now. God help them please.
_________________________________________________________________________________
Here we go again with the assanine assumption that violent games create murderers. I have been a gamer all my life. I am 43 now and I still play with violent games like all the war simulators out there. I have never once in my life been violent. I have never been in a fist fight. You just seem to want to blame violence of any kind on a video game.
This is a society that glorifies gun ownership, starting with the Supreme Court conservative majority in McDonald v. City of Chicago. The Supreme Court majority argument is...violent things will always happen, but if these school children in Connecticut are properly armed, they can have self-defense. So to the Supreme Court, the only problem here is that those kids are not properly armed for self-defense...their first class in school should be a 'shooting lesson.
How dare you make this political! Everybody and anybody who has children finds this a terrible tragedy and beyond comprehension. It was an evil act and its about the heart of the person who did this!!! But for you to make it about Republicans is pathetic on your part!!
My heart and prayers go out the family members of the victims.
What an ignorant statement. It's people like you who spread hysteria rather than education. Do you realize what would happen if we "get rid of guns, period"?
Logic says that criminals would still have guns...Is that too simple of an answer to justify any argument?
Guns are already too far spread to just eradicate all legal guns. I hope those who read your posts are not influenced.
You are making an excellent argument in favor of banning any kind of gun.
Pretty much. If people die from it, shouldn't it BE scary?
Such a tragic event. Unfortunately it always leads to people ignoring the problem and blaming unrelated things, like video games, or inattentive parents. Get real. The problem here is obvious. Guns. They are designed to kill. Some say guns don't kill, but people do. That's just a stupid thing to say. Guns are the means that people use to kill other people. They should be outlawed. The 2nd Amendment is the worst thing to ever happen to this country. Some nut jobs like Boris suggest that teachers carry firearms! No! Just get rid of these killing devices. I don't care if you like to hunt. Use a crossbow. Worried about self defense? Learn karate. You're afraid someone might break into your house? Get an alarm system. Get a dog. We don't need guns. They are killing devices and nothing more. If your solution is that everyone carry guns, you are insane. People who say they need guns are just too lazy to learn how to protect themselves.
We do not know if he was a gamer, but we are certain that he was a gunman, and we know he was immune to the violence of using guns.
TODAY: Update Our Hearts
President Barack Hussein Obama
US: "Our Hearts are broken today", but still beating, with sympathy and love for all the victims.
We live in a world of War Craft, but the right of each individual to defend themselves from evil, by what ever means chosen, should not be compromised.
Helter Skelter is the law of chaos, but we must never allow ourselves to be ruled by such animal instincts.
Peace be with you All >>>
Jabra'il
Another union family member, likely a democrat, acting like a lunatic, using guns for violence. It's becoming increasingly crazy to piss off these crazy, out-of-control democrats.
And more pot for all. More drugs. Turn on and recreate. Party on, man. What a strong, wise clown-in-chief to set an example.
Pat and Beverly, you are vile human beings.
Dutchess1,
You have no idea what you're talking about.
1. Do you know anything about so-called "assault weapons?" Just because they look a little different (perhaps menacing) than what you might picture as a "hunting rifle" they operate basically the same. They are NOT the same as the military or police use in that they are "semi-automatic," not fully automatic. There are numerous semi-automatic hunting rifles in much larger calibers, than say an AR-15, that are much more powerful.
2. Although the report thus far is that the shooter had two 9mm hand guns. It's not clear what weapons were used in this case. It was also reported that he perhaps had more weapons in his car.
3. Banning guns of any kind only keeps them out of the hands of normal, law-abiding citizens reducing them to little more than prey, while the bad guys will still find ways to acquire them. For example, most guns are banned in Mexico entirely, but we've seen more gun violence there than anywhere on Earth! Indeed, most laws only burden the law-abiding, while the bad guys ignore them entirely.
You're obviously entitled to your opinions, but I just think that you and Pat need to have some rational basis for them. You libs will always find ways to blame conservatives for anything and everything, but perhaps you should just check out the violence from the left that went unreported by your lib press in Michigan just this week--absolute mob violence. We really don't see much of this from the right.
Pat, Beverly,
27 people are dead and 20 of them are very young children. I have a pit in my stomach and it sure as hell has nothing to do with your holier than thou politics or gun control. It has to do with my wondering how as a society we are continuing to produce people that have a heart so cold as to carry this out. With a gun, without a gun WHO FRICKEN CARES??? This is NOT about guns or politics...........!! We as a society have a problem and it isn't guns.
My daughter called me on her way home from her teaching job today. She asked me: "What kind of a human can look at a classroom of grade K students and execute each and everyone of them?" I was an elementary teacher for grade 2 and at that time there was no process to lock a school down. Now as a mother of a teacher, a grandmother to four beautiful little ones ages 8 to 22 months, I can not imagine why every school in America is not required to lock every single door to each classroom and each door in and out of every single school in this country.
I can not comprehend that the NRA can still give millions to congressional and senatorial elected officials to keep gun laws from being enacted. This shooter shot more than 100 times. He had more guns with him and in his vehicle. No one is safe as long as the NRA runs congress and the Senate. Will it take a gunman getting into congress and slaying 435 of them BEFORE the high powered rifles and Glocks are banne?. I have heard it all: Guns do not kill. People kill. People would not be able to kill LIKE THEY DO IN AMERICA without the amazing amounts of LEGAL weapons an individual is allowed to buy---thanks to consistent dollars going into elected officials pockets from the NRA.
God did not want this to happen nor the shootings all over the United States in just the last 10 years. Evil begets evil. The NRA is the right place to start. I imagine a prison with just bars in Times Square wherein the NRA/people that take money from the NRA/elected officials who make sure no gun laws are enacted into law....in this prison with no walls these people would wear clothing that can not be taken off, given 8 ounce of WATER PER WEEK, BREAD CRUMBS THREE TIMES A WEEK AND CARDBOARD BOXES TO USE TO COVER THEMSELVES FROM THE ELEMENTS.
Again. How can any individual look into the innocence of a five year old and execute that child? I pray for the parents/the grandparents/siblings/aunts and uncles and anyone else mourning this horrific loss on this 14th day of December of 2012. I pray that President Obama will be kept safe so that when congress is finished playing budget games with all of us being used as pawns, that the president can come on television every single night until the congress and the NRA get it. Babies executed in America in a classroom where they are supposed to be safe WILL NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE WE WILL PUT THE NRA OUT OF BUSINESS. God protect the hearts of their parents as he hold these victims in his loving arms.
We are already in violation of the 2nd Amendment. Take a look at what the 2nd Amendment says:
The underlining is mine. No one can seriously say at this point, that our current regulations provide for our security. In this year alone, Americans have been killed by random gunmen at the following places:
This doesn't even count the smaller, non-reported killings of about 30 Americans every day. Are we secure? Do you feel secure? Is this the way we want to live?
Pat in Boston. Banning guns is not the answer. The GOP and NRA are not at fault. If you don't want guns in the hands of citizens, I suggest you move to Brazil or Mexico. There you will only have to worry about guns in the hands of criminals, cartel, and corrupt police hands since law abiding citizens can't have guns. Besides, their gun related homicides are only more than twice that of the US with only a tenth of the number of gun we have. But who's counting?
When will Liberals finally be thankful they live in the safest, most prosperous country in the world? Psychos hell bent on killing people can be found anywhere in the world and tragedies are part of life. Today in China some 36 year old man knifed 22 children at a school.
You want to offer the same solutions as the past (lets make parents better parents!), expect the same results. Arming teachings is an awful idea, for the record, truly awful (you want MORE guns around your kids?). If you want to change things, you need a systematic revision of gun laws. If you want to say how sorry you are for people but don't want to take any real action to change things, then you are part of the problem.
Ask that to the unfortunate parents in Connecticut. Do you think THEY are content with the status quo??
Always the same stupid rationales - one side or the other. Yeah it's emotional...the guy could've used a buzz saw...but he didn't. He used a precision tool to maximum effect. Isn't that how shooters of all stripes think about personal power?
We truly need to disarm ourselves. At all levels...not just the hardware but the attitudes that call for it.
We could start by reducing the sheer numbers of weapons out there...the cops having
to downgrade too.
Make it a 10 year "let's go to moon" level effort...guard the rights, but de-escalate this garbage that's repeatedly slaughtering children and adults alike.
Vinnie, you are mad at our president because he was CRYING? WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!!!!! All Americans should be crying over this tragedy! YOU are not an American!
Jeez people, for once can we bury the dead before you all start tearing each other apart. At some time or another we have to grow up and stop fighting over everything. Before we start pointing fingers at each other we need to look deep into ourselves to see if what we put out into the world is helping or hurting the common good.
Not buying it. Not, for even one minute. This guy didn't give a $#!+ when Ambassador Stevens, and three members of his staff were killed in Benghazi (.....and he proved it by LYING about why they were killed for almost a month).
Why would this situation be any different to him.
He is a liar, a fake, a phony, and a fraud!
By the way, Beverly, you wanna' talk about "whores" take a good look at the way the main stream media treats Obama. He can do no wrong in their eyes, even when people die becuase of HIS incomptence.
He's got them all "pimped out."
Pat in Boston said,
"You republicans. Yes, YOU! You call yourselves citizens?
You complain to high heaven about Susan Rice and talking points regarding an embassy killing.
What you YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT THIS!"
I tell you what I'm going to do... I'm going to pray for your sorry a-- and all the familes affected!!
How &%$#ing dare you say this is the work of republicans!!
Typical liberal...
This made me absolutely ill . I grew up as a kid during the Cuban missle crisis . Having to get underneath
a desk during air raid drills. There is no nuclear attack that could ever be as scary as the way this country and the world is now. I don't ever remember a black mass murderer in my whole life. Thugs
and ganstas mostly kill for drugs and turf. They don't walk into classrooms and kill innocent children.
We have a gun problem created by bigotry and indifference.
This guy did not walk into a classroom with a single shot musket.
As far as fully automatic weapons doe an AK47 qualify as fully automatic ?
They sold one on the numerous gun shows that air on TV.
Maybe the answer is to provide everyone with weopons so they can protect themselves agaist the so called legal gun owners ?
Oh wait ! that would be called Anarchy.
I have no problem with gun ownership I do have a problem with irresponsible gun ownership.
I hope this tragedy wakes some people up in this country.
Way to many seem to be sleepwalking through life.
The reason I say From the former USA is the country was much different then.
mostly kil
InAgreemnt:that is the most assanine statement I have EVER heard! The issue is dead children and people like you who want to point a finger rather than being part of the solution. Was this guy a member of the NRA? How many NRA members have actually been involved in this type of masacre? Your generalization about the NRA & Republicans is what is wrong with this world. Always blaming, being mean and angry all the time.
Why in the world do you people thrive on all the finger pointing and hate? Is it a Liberal or psychological requirement to be crazy as a loon??? To policticize a tragedy? You are disgusting in your generalization and I'm sure your real life reflects that hate and anger.
I'm a member of the NRA & I have never killed anyone! Never became violent towards anyone because of my membership. My first reponse to this tragedy was heartbreak, for the children, the families, the injured and all involved. Please, please take another look at your attitude and blame and realize you are part of the problem! When your first response is to politicize and point fingers you are part of the problem!!!! Dear God please Heal this country!!!!!! (Even if we don't deserve it!!!!!) InAgreement I really hope you and others like you rethink your way of hating and criticizing others. We all need to live on this planet. Don't make it so hard!!!

This is very much a people problem. Until we learn to respect each other as human beings, these sort of tragedies will continue. That's all I have to say about this. I haven't felt this sick about a senseless violent act since 9/11.
How many need to be involved before you see a problem?
Do you seriously expect us to think that things like today are OK?
Because we don't like the idea of our neighbors, our children, our friends getting killed? Because we get upset when kids get shot?
This really needs to be explained to you?
Do you realize that this is the 7th such mass shooting this year? If we shouldn't talk about the problems that gun cause in our culture today, then when are we supposed to talk about it?
ZMAN - you are total FILTH. No one cares what you think because you have shown that actual THINKING is beyond your abilities. The fact that you - in your emotional vacuity - need to put our President down shows what a total lowlife you are!
Mass shootings have been going on for a long time...not just in the USA.
A lot of you disgust me. Do you think these kids were "libs" or "right wingnuts"? They were children murdered. Bickering about politics before the blood has dried.....sick.
Happy Holidays from the liberal progressive non secular movement. This
would not have happened if the shooter believed in Heaven and Hell!
Don't be a fool and blame guns. Blame the liberal progressives and Obama and friends.
Pat as much as i'd liketa agree with you about the NRA, it's Not only Republicans, but also Democrats who are Afraid of the NRA. Americans of all stripes can now carry a Gun into a Church,Bar,National Park,Train,Crowd, etc, etc, etc. This aspect did'nt Only come from Republican Votes.
However, Well Armed Militias are No longer needed in our Society,so that part of the 2nd amendment is a Mute point in Todays World. What does need to be done & could get done pretty quickly is an Assault Weapons Ban, along with the Magaizne clips. These Weapons are'nt needed in Everyday Life & the Penalty for Selling,Owning,Possessing & or Useing them should be comparable to State & Federal Drug Sentencing guidlines or Worse!
Rifles for Hunting & Pistols(6-shooters) are All that Hunters & Residents need to Protect them.
Roundup the Rest & Put irresponsible Gun Shops "Out of Business"!
All that being said, I personally think it was a Huge Mistake for Our President to come into the Breifing Room(Political Reporters) & Say Anything concerning this TRAGEDY! Moments like these are Reserved for Addressing the Nation, which I hope he will later tonight.
Make No Mistake America, This Was a NATIONAL TRAGEDY!
You Betcha!
Occupy SoggyBottom
Guns don't kill people. Non Secular Progressive Liberal schools kill people!
This would not have happened if the shooter believed in heaven and hell.
shut up already about the gun... Are you people really that ignorant? The freaking gun didnt kill anyone it was the nut that pulled the trigger. If you want to argue honestly if the adults had been armed e wouldn't have killed 20 kids he would have been shot after the first round was fired or before when in the office. I swear some of you people are so ignorant about what is going on your pathetic... You remove God out of the schools out of the government out of the courthouse out of thepublic squares no prayer allowed anywhere you took God out of our history of our Nation and now you wonder why people are running around with no morals killing people? LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!! When we were a Nation of praying God fearing individuals we didnt have this kind of junk and now you wonder what is going on, but as soon as this happens you same people start saying " say a prayer" although you dont believe in God any other time. You have removed the umbrella of protection that God had on this nation when you kicked Him out of our country so dont wonder why this is happening as a norm now, Our Nation has brought it upon itself and until we all repent and drop to our knees and ask for forgiveness as a nation it will only get worse. This is a very sad and tragic day but yet our government pays for over 4000 abortions daily killing innocent babies and nobody cries out for them. yet you now call for a prayer. You cant have it both ways... You either follow God or you taste His wrath He is a God that will not be mocked
Right, brother! No Christian has ever killed anyone. The Crusades, mass killings of all of human history never happened, it's just a vast left-wing conspiracy.
(For the sarcasm-impaired: take another look.)

Pat BOSTON MA:
Why is it the responsibility of the GOP for these slaughters--or pedophiles that murder children, or commit heinous crimes?---
Both parties have NOTHING to do with the individual/individuals who are doing these kinds of massacres. it is the person themselves, and only they who's fault it is. There should be more Mental Health Counseling, but one cannot "drag a horse to water", just lead it--it is up to the "horse" to take the advice.
Parents are responsible, as well---they know when their kid is crazy, doing drugs, alcohol, carrying weapons around; or maybe they choose to ignore the "signs" of a crazy kid, or young Adult.
Illegal Drugs are at the root of much of the violence, along with the Internet, violent videos, violent movies. Why do some children not ever commit a crime while watching these types of Media? Because, the parents have laid down a strong role model for their child, and care about them. A good parent, is a good parent. Many of these so called murderers have no parents who care about them, coming from violent homes, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, and telling their child they are worth nothing.
To blame the GOP, is stupid--off the wall.
Crimes are only committed by people. Not Political Parties.
I have got to think that big bird is involved in this some way.
BigRedmch - how funny you skip over the little righties who have made this a "liberal" or "Obama" problem. Can you say HYPOCRITE???????
Sanity,
Sorry about that! I just notice the first couple of comments, Pat being the lead. This shouldn't be political.
How's that?
I can guess the right's talking points about this already. They know pressure will be put on the NRA now and they're bringing out their sanctimonious side and saying politics shouldn't be brought into it. Agreed, for now. Give the families time, then let's bring into focus all the Congress people accepting money from the NRA.
Libs will never let an opportunity pass to make a shooting political. Dont bother talking any sense and just enjoy the emotional masturbation
Congratulations is in order to the NRA and republican gun nuts everywhere, don't forget to pay your dues and recite the 2nd amendment by heart. You should be so proud, the toll today was third in mass slayings, second if only guns are considered. Lets all go out and buy at least 5 more guns and a thousand rounds of ammunition so we can shoot at each other. Also we need a book on how to build bombs so we can become a country to rival those in the middle east. More children's deaths are necessary so we can all own a gun. I am so sick of gun nuts, and people that attack Pat for being a human. If this tragedy does not bother you, you must be republican. You cannot defend the facts. In Michigan last night a republican majority voted it ok to carry your gun to school, church, almost anywhere. Not one democrat voted for more death by fire arm. Not one. It is all on the republicans. YOU STINK.
My god. You don't have to be retarded to be a liberal, but it sure helps.
Well, the mindless fu**ing robot regulars on this site (we all know who they are) take a tragic massacre and turn it into a political attack on Republicans (as they do with any story). I guess I usually don't think about how many low lifes there are among us, and how ugly and vicious they can get in defense of their political fanaticism. Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic!
Our Father in heaven,

If libs would stop using tragedies as their political play ground, I would just pass along my condolences and be on my way.
You libs are pathetic to start the blame game hours after this massacre. Pat, you should be ashamed of yourself. Your true colors are showing time and time again. CT is a blue state so what do you expect! And we love your messiahs croc tears....FOOL!!
I don't agree with President Obama's policies, but I thought he gave a very good speech.
Seriously, if God is the kind of guy that kills 18 innocent children because it is no longer legally allowable to have organized prayer in public schools, then he can @!$%# himself.
Well, I know Obama has done anything to help the situation, buy I sure did something! I jumped up and down on my left foot! I'm sure that helped. The heroes of the left have always done something to prevent this sort of situation. Mao, Stalin, Castro, Chavez, etc., they know how to prevent this stuff from happening. Just point a gun at all the law abiding citizens and tell them to do what they are told. If anyone disagrees, just kill them. That way there will be no one who will perpetrate such a tragedy as this. Seems to work every time. Well, except when enough people are equally poor and destitute and rise up. But, that usually takes a couple of generations, so the current dictators are safe.
Looked at Obama today. Looks like he has taken a page from the Clinton book and shed his tear for effect. Too bad that while he's shedding a tear for these kids he's doing everything in his power to make sure that no other children are as well off as these kids were.
Korn: Forget it. It would be wrong what I have to say of your post
Boris-2106645 Comment collapsed by the community
This isn't about republicans you moron. It's about lousy parents that ignore their kids form birth to chase their own careers and dreams rather than put time into their own kids. Out of need for attention, they do heinous things like this. Maybe would should arm the teachers to at least provide some defense. Or you can keep trying to rely on government to fix it.
warthog213-984171:::: It would seem that Boris is a hot head calling someone a moron for getting emotional over something as sick as this. But I may have a great solution to the problem which may be quickly done so never this never happens again.... Its not anyones fault exept the guy who did this what ever his reasons.... These are sick people who need to be busted in the act of attempting to carry a weapon into a school....

Pat Boston MA.
One needn't know the emotion you possessed while typing your post. You are right to be outraged - We should ALL be outraged. And, it's beyond high time that Congress start getting serious about gun control and mental illness. I wonder how many more children must needlessly die before Congress gets its ass in gear ...
warthog213-984171:::: Its true that Pat Boston MA was just an emotional statement they directed at republican.... Well I don't care for republicans at all but I know that this was not any republicans fault....
But I do have an idea to keep this from ever happening again as I stated above.... Place ROTC students at the doors every school day to check parents and anyone who enters a school for any weapons or devices.... Also put in bullet proof glass into all ground level doors and windows.... And a video system with a big screen tv for a monitor(one watching only the ROTC students at the main entance to a school) in the main office where it can be watched by everyone in the main office area....
Give the ROTC students speacial credits for their services and for insuring our children are safe.... And use senior ROTC students who have drivers licenses and a car to travel from school to school.... This still isn't a cheap idea but it would make someone think twice about doing anything stupid and would show the public an unarmed military presence at our schools.... They do this at the main govenment building across the United States and our children are our future and are well worth the trouble....
I feel so bad about today's tragedy I'm lost for words !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was one of the fakiest "look at me, I had a tear in my eye" speeches I have ever seen. While he is wiping away pretend tears, our country is still bombing the hell out of other countries, killing their children.
People need to get a grip, this screams gun control. And, the government never wanting to let a good tragedy go to waste, will jump on board and start talking about how they need to keep guns away from people for our own safety. Trust me, if we don't have guns, our government will be twice as tyrannical as they are now and that says a lot.
Takechargeofyourhealth - you are a pathetic excuse for a human being. You're disgusting and reprehensible.
Takecharge,
Does it make you wish you could change your vote to Romney?
Unoi, you SOB's couldn't wait for Ambassador Stevens body was cold before you started your bull@!$%# blaming of our president. Purely for political reasons. Now you want to lecture me about making this tragedy political, well it is political and always has been. Republicans fight against any and all regulations, even back ground checks which may or may not stop these things from happening. When Democrats offer even a suggestion they are voted out of office by you gun nut bastards. One thing for sure is more guns is not the answer, more guns lead to more death and you, your NRA, and republicans can be blamed for these tragedies as they occur. Gun proponents period are responsible for this.
We have lost twenty children and six teachers and the number of people pointing fingers here and there is pathetic. And to those of you complaining that the President was emotional would complain if he wasn't. It's easy to hide behind user names. It's easy to post hateful, hurtful, critical things when you don't have your face and name out there for everyone to see. Don't you think that this just might be the time to put negative things aside and bind together in prayer and well wishes for the families that are dealing with so much more than most of us have had to deal with today. Stop and think about those families that bundled up their children this morning and gave them a hug and kiss as they headed out the door to catch their school bus. They didn't have any idea that as they watched those children climb aboard the bus to head to school it would be the last time they would see them alive, the last conversation, the last hug and kiss. There are probably presents under the tree with their names on it, special gifts that their parents had shopped for in preparation for the upcoming holidays...knowing the joy a parent feels when a child opens a present and is so excited about the gift they have received. And, give the President a break, he is a father, he is a human - if you didn't find a lump in your throat, a knot in your stomach, an ache in your heart when you heard this terrible news then maybe someone ought to check and see if you really have a pulse. So, let's move this conversation back to well wishes, back to prayers and thoughts on behalf of parents who probably can't find words to express their pain at this time. Let's lift them up - and stop tearing each other down. I am going to send a card to the town of Newton, CT - I don't have a specific address - I am just sending it to the post office. I want them to know that there is someone that is thinking of them - another American, another parent, another human being. How about we flood that town with cards - what if we overwhelmed that small town with cards from all over the nation....heck, all over the world. I think that would be much better than finding ways to crab at someone or complain about something. Tuck your children in - tell them you love them - kiss them goodnight.
Look at all of you. Fighting over your various political stances, using this tragedy as your soap box. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Perhaps if you cared about anything other than politics, you'd have noticed that is happening everywhere-- 22 kids were just attacked in China by a knife-wielding wacko. Let's all be grown ups and recognize that there is a societal problem that needs to be addressed.
...make that Newtown, CT

The Second Amendment, because of the commas, can't even be precisely interpreted. So why the hell are we letting an illegible sentence on a 250+ year-old document dictate that our children be under constant threat from modern weaponry?!! It's absolute stupidity!!
First, as a human being I feel the tragedy. I literally wept over this story and losses suffered by so many. Then I come here and read stupid comments and screen names (I'm talking to you, "LiberalsAreTheWorst") politicizing this story. Then the attempt to link blame for this event on playing violent video games.
Being a "gamer" (one who plays a lot of video games, including violent ones) has absolutely nothing to do with this or events like this. One could make the same argument for banning the news, too violent. Ban NASCAR, too dangerous or a waste of fuel. etc etc. It's all bad pseudo-logic. The percentage per capita of people who will commit mass murders among active video gamers would be about the same as if you were to try and link it to people who read the news more than three times a day, or people who have played sports, or people who enjoy car races, or professional food preparers for crying out loud. ("Butchers!")
You know what group actually DOES have a higher per capita percentage of being violent or murderous in public life in our society? Former military personnel. This is statistically true, but you don't hear too many cries of outrage to "ban" the military or put into place better programs to help vets adjust to a return to civillian life after being taught how to be as deadly as possible. Don't misunderstand me here, this is to illustrate a point only. I am not expressing a pro- or con- view on the military in general as a whole, only pointing out that vets returning from active duty often have difficulty re-adjusting to civillian life, and we as a society have yet to eliminate this problem. I only point out that this group had a higher percentage of violence than does "gamers", so please stop trying to link violent crime or gun violence with playing violent video games.
If you're prone to violence, your violence will come out. Whether you were an avid video gamer, NASCAR fan, the leftist of liberals or the staunchest of conservatives, ex-military or not, has nothing to do with it.
About GUN CONTROL. No one understands this better than responsible, law abiding adults who own firearms. The vast majority of existing gun control laws came shortly after tradegies such as this. They are reactionary and ultimately serve to punish and restrict the law abiding more so than any criminal. Certainly there is great responsibility that goes with owning and potentially using a firearm; the training must be thorough and 100% successful - there is no room for error. You hold yourself to a higher standard - the level of personal responsibility when you carry a firearm means you can not lose your temper, no matter how much the situation may seem to call for it. You can make NO assumptions. This responsibility is held by our men and women in law enforcement and our military, as well as any private citizens who understand and exercise their Constitutional right to bear this responsibility by bearing firearms.
The laws on the books punish the wrong group already, the aforementioned law abiding private citizens. If anything, there should be a national training course with high standards, frequent lisence renewal and retesting for gun ownership. Not a loose system of state-to-state, county to county and even city to city differing laws, coupled with national lobbying by the NRA and anti-gun groups making it ever more complicated at the federal level. It's a mess. But guess what? If a sociopath sets his or her mind on mass murder, they will find a way. I read on this forum yesterday that "Guns don't make people violent, but they sure make violent people more effective". I hate to agree with that, but that point is undeniable. So what's the trick to keep firearms out of the hands of people who might act out violently? More training, more testing and re-texting, lisencing and review of the time a person has owned firearms responsibly commiting no violent crimes.
There's a lot to consider, but it must be done with a calm measured mind, not a reactionary call to ban guns or violent video games or whatever. NO "all or nothing" approach has EVER worked in all of recorded human history. Education and a higher standard is the key to approaching this. IMO.
End rant. Thanks for reading.
Ever heard the saying "guns don't kill people- people kill people?" Well it's true. In case you haven't heard, this has been happening to the youngest of school children far more frequently in China. You know what those murderers used? Axes and knives. Your argument for gun control is illogical as it's already been proven a MILLION times over that if someone wants to kill, they are going to do it- WITH OR WITHOUT GUNS!

Yeah, spider. We know who you are. Pathetic.

Okay ..... we get it. You don't like the President, but the dumb crack about the illegals is beyond stupid. The crying comes from compassion and sympathy. Is that something you understand, even just a little bit?
You only make yourself and the rest of the people who voice the same opinions look small and mean and not very bright.

You might want to educate yourself before making such ignorant comments. There have been so many attacks on school children in China that Wikipedia now dedicates a page highlighting these frequent occurences- 6 attacks between 2010 and 2011 alone, using knives, cleavers and even a hammer. There was another attack today in China where 22 school children were stabbed. So many attacks in China on children lately it's considered something of an anomaly. So look it up because your comments making you appear as if YOU are the one who needs to get a clue!!!

Bottom line:
That Racist in the White House's crocidile tears didn't move me one bit... he's faild to do anything to ensure a safer America. He doens't care until it's a sound bite.
You want a safer America? Start by making people accountable for thier actions. No, I don't care if that killer was abused as a kid... I don't care if he came from a low income family, and NO, I don't care if mommy didn't love him. You do a crime, you do the time. I'd wager 80% of all crime in the Country are committed by people that failed to take personal responsibility for thier actions. They've decided thier lives were more important than those around them. Stop government hand outs, force people to work for their monthly check (sweep streets, I don't care).
This guy took the cowards way out.
jenlee - you might want to educate yourself before posting anything. Your equating any of this to China shows how foolish you are as a person. What has happened in China STILL does not equate with the gun violence here. Now either try to be relevant or STFU! You are a totaly foolish idiot!
SeekingSanity-
My college education taught me to back my statements with facts supporting them. Where is your supporting evidence that this has only happened once in China? Backing up what I say IS what makes my comment relevant. I also learned that those who call names resort to doing so simply because it's all they (YOU) have!
Sadden
How stupid and hateful to use this opportunity to call the President a racist. What a fool you are to suggest that his tears are "crocodile tears." You do not know what is in his heart (and if you did you would probably not be a far right wing bonehead.
Why do so many of you who disparage other Americans routinely choose to have patriotic-sounding screen names? You make a ridiculous claim about responsibility that has nothing to do with this story and imply that you have some master plan to solve the problems of society based on some manufactured ideas about the killer.
News flash, Sad Sack. You have no idea what you are talking about. None. You use any story as an excuse for a reactionary conservative rant and you only manage to out yourself as a lunatic.
Vin112
In all cases the perpetrator was mentally ill or mentally deficient. This one is now said to have had a developmental deficiency, just like the one in Chardon Ohio this year.
The increase in violence in schools, and busineses have occured after 1960, when we started making our schools and businesses "gun free" zones.
Last week in China, a young man when into an Chinese elementary school with a knive and slashed 22 students, some of which also died. The only differences between a gun and a knife is that the gun runs out of ammunition.
Gun Crimes in concealed carry states is 24% LOWER than those states that do not have concealed carry laws.
I have a pretty strong feeling that the gun control advocates won't let these facts get in the way
Jenlee - you error. You are supposed to bow to the superior thinking of the far left who don't need anything more factual than enlessly repeated assertions. No matter how much you put hard facts before their eyes they will not change their position. This is what the Ex-KGB agents have said about the false dogmas they salted our Intellectual elites with during the 1960's.
DB Akron-
You make a good point when you state that "the only differences between a gun and a knife is that the gun runs out of ammunition." Some people don't seem to notice the relevance when we comment on the attacks in China. However, it's entirely relevant to the simple point we try to make- there are a million ways to kill someone. China is a perfect example- it doesn't allow citizens to own guns, yet they have had more deadly attacks on school children than we have. A logical person would easily see the irrationality of gun control. But unfortunately, not all of us think logically!
F the gun lovers. They are the problem not the solution. They are responsible for relaxing gun laws across the country and want it to even go further by voting for people in their states and nationally who bow down to the despicable NRA. For those who say guns don't kill people please tell that to the mothers and fathers of those children who were killed. It takes two to kill many people in a matter of a short time, a gun and a person to use it so no gun lovers you cannot have it that way. Guns do kill and the more that nothing is done to reduce gun violence the more killings we will see. Guns are a disease not a cure because gun lovers don't want more strict gun laws, which we need.
His mother had weapons that her son had access to.He was mentally ill.The responsibility lies with her but she is now deceased. This is not about guns. This is about mental illness and those who suffer from it having access to weapons instead of anti psychotic drugs.Thank Ronald Reagan and all those in government who refuse to address mental health issues and laws in this country just ot save a buck.
You people B!tching about politics.
You should shut up and get over your selfishness and start thinking about the people who have lost children.
And take time to contemplate that you need to sometimes put aside your personal agenda when something this awful happens.
You'll have time later for your selfish behavior, don't worry. For now, try to grow up a little bit.
Trilly-
I would love to hear you explain how your logic works in China where there are NO guns, yet far more frequent attacks on school children. In one attack, 28 children were stabbed. You seem to have the answers, so please don't ignore the above facts and school me on how that works! Additionally, if would be greatly appreciated if your comment provides supporting evidence for any comments made.

What frustrates me so much is that studies show the exact opposite of what is stated by those who want gun control. Actual studies show they are wrong.
"No empirical study of the effectiveness of gun laws has shown any positive effect on crime. To the dismay of the prohibitionists, such studies have shown a negative effect. That is, in areas having greatest restrictions on private firearms ownership, crime rates are typically higher, because criminals are aware that their intended victims are less likely to have the means with which to defend themselves." -Infowars
http://www.infowars.com/celebrities-demand-outrageous-gun-laws-following-connecticut-shootin
"Rising Gun Ownership Has Helped Cut Murder Rates for Americans Over 25, New Study Says...
The 30-page study, Firearms and Crime, by Daniel D. Polsby (Professor of Law at Northwestern University and Research Fellow at the Independent Institute) concludes that murder rates for most of the population it has fallen significantly – nearly 19 percent for those 25 years old and older. It's only higher in the young population mostly due to increasing drug wars."
He states that a reason for this is because the number of people who have armed themselves for the right reasons (protection) vastly outweighs the number of people who intend to do others harm.

You people that cry GET RID OF ALL GUNS are either crazy or uninformed.
I actually grew up in CT not far from this event and now reside in Boston.
I grew up around guns since the 4th grade. In the 18 and 1900's guns were all over America and Coast to Coast kids even used them daily, but they did not do sh*t like this.
Children (yes people under the age of 18 lets say) in many countries of the modern world are trained to use guns, both hand held and military style. Switzerland, Norway? and Russia come to mind just as a few countries that have mandatory service. Then they become 24 year old adults. See how often something like this happens in these places, and then you will realize that the US as a country is more third world in our abilities to handle responsibility than many other of our 1st world nation counterparts. All we do in the US is pass the blame and responsibility onto someone else and never blame ourselves.
Derek-381097,
I would suggest anyone that is trying to silence a mourning people who are expressing ideas on how best to prevent further massacres is the one with the personal agenda. He or she may not be all of these things, but most likely is a Republican, a member of the NRA and gun nut with serious paranoid issues concerning self-defense.
Take a long look in the mirror and honestly answer the following question. How close does the above description fit you?
What could cause a twenty year old to murder his own mother and so many innocent children? Things have changed in this country, and not for the better. Could it be that our society has become so coarsened, so de-sensitized to violence that such an act is no longer considered heinous to those that perpetrate them? One only need read some of the posts on this vine to realize how far our civility has devolved.
We now live in a world in a world where depravity exemplified by reality shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and "Jersey Shore" are glorified and family traditions exemplified by old shows like "little house on the prairie" are dismissed as passe and irrelevant.
No doubt we will now hear from "experts" who will explain to us that todays tragedy is the result of access to guns, or racism or mean Republicans who oppose the nanny state. Things have changed from the time I was the age of the children slaughtered today. We now live in a world where a mother can abort a fetus up until the very day of delivery. It is a world where doctors can plunge a pair of scissors into the brain of an unborn child just minutes before it can expel its first breath, extract its brains and deliver a lifeless corpse. When I was the age of the children murdered today such an act was considered depraved. In todays world it is considered a "right". For a disturbed individual murdering five year olds probably doesn't seem much different.
I have no doubt that the tears President Obama shed today were genuine. All of us fathers can imagine the horror and anguish the families of those lost souls must feel. I do find it ironic that the president does not feel similar compassion for those lost souls that succumb to partial birth abortion. He in fact supports it. Are the joys of the aborted any less important? Apparently they are.
I am not a religious person, but I do appreciate that there is wisdom in the Bible. We are our brothers keeper. I wonder why no one was there to help the perpetrator of this crime. Did his mother not realize the depth of his despair? Did she not care? Did anyone care? Could anyone have affected this outcome? Maybe not. Maybe it was too late to change events. Maybe we have to go back to the beginning. Maybe each of us needs to ask ourselves if there was something we can do to alter the course of events that results in such a senseless tragedy.
So reports now are coming out that the guns were not only registered but also belonged to his mother. Also CT has some of the toughest, if not toughest gun laws in the USA. Neither worked.
Unfortunately, they still didn't stop a mentality unstable person from acquiring them and committing this unspeakable act among innocent lives.
I was watching CNN and Anderson Cooper earlier and he even said that you can have the strongest laws and protections in place and if someone wants to harm someone(s) they will find a way...usually through illegal means.
You don't have to be a religious person to know that many religious teachings promote wisdom and ways to live your life for the betterment of society and others. Is it coincidence that as religion becomes less the norm in this nation that violence is on the rise? That's a question people need to ask themselves.
You also talk about TV today and other things like games and movies.
I think there is a fine line to walk. Like you said we basically have completely worthless mental junk in shows that are on MTV and E and other reality shows why shows that promote good morale fiber are no longer the norm. We have very violent shows also on TV and some that go beyond the norm. But again, I think we have to be careful to realize that you can have things like violence and other things in movies and show that tell a story...while other movies and shows do it to get an reaction out of the audience like a reality show.
Can't help but notice that all the liberals on this site have endless blame for this tragedy. Its the lack of gun control, video games, movies, you name it. So take it all away and then what do you do when the next tragedy hits? Explosives can be made with everyday materials, not the least of which is gasoline. You going to ban all cars? Unfortunately anyone determined to commit a violent crime is going to find a way to do it. There is simply no way for the government to ensure protection from everything by means of another law. The only people ever infringed upon by ever tightening laws, are those who have never broken them. Criminals will never be deterred. It certainly isn't a money issue, as our federal budget has never been so bloated. Somethings are just beyond the realm of simple explanations, not everything can definitively be known, and those facts don't always mesh with an ideological world view.
Guy @ 1.3
This may have relevance but only to this case. This guy was, in fact, mentally ill and it is the mentally ill that are most susceptible to any kind of violence weather it be from games, political discourse, or other media. A well adjusted person is not affected by any of the stuff listed above, not even kids. As long as kids are told that it is not real and doing those actions in real life is wrong and dangerous kids will not mimic violent behaviors found in the media.
Again it falls back to the parenting the kid received growing up, I have known parents who watched WWF weekly with their kids and they would be on the playground at school using wrestling moves on their friends, no one ever got hurt but the potential was there. Other kids whose parents forbade them from watching that crap never participated.
This guy is a good example of the people who can be affected by violence in media, adults anyway, and those people are exclusively mentally ill. John Doe with a job and a good life is not going to suddenly crack and shoot up his work place because he was watching a Soprano marathon. If he does it, it will be related to a mental issues such as a psychosomatic break precipitated by stress.
We really need to stop blaming the media for these issues and look to who is really responsible: the parents of kids who should know better and the officials who have not implemented ways to keep mentally unstable people from obtaining weapons. Then there is also the factors that caused this case, gun owners who show no sense of responsibility and do not lock their guns away in a safe or unbreakable closet.
Commonsense, you fit my description best. You probably spoke up because it is your conscious speaking. Thankfully I do not fit any of the description of your ASSumption list. But let me tell you, you probably have more in common 'sense' with the people you think are part of the problem than you will admit to. In fact, you are probably just like them.
Good luck to you. Since you are clearly thinking of yourself.
Obama: "The majority of those who died today were children -- beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10-years-old," he said, pausing to wipe away a tear. "They had their entire lives ahead of them -- birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own."
What happened today at that school was a terrible tragedy and horrible crime but what a fraud and a hypocrite Obama is.
These kids had their "whole lives ahead of them" too. They were killed by predator drone strikes sanctioned by Mr. Sensitive in the White House:
Wikipedia: "Based on extensive research, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism found that between 391 – 780 civilians were killed [by drones] out of a total of between 1,658 and 2,597 and that 160 children are reported among the deaths. The Bureau also revealed that since President Obama took office at least 50 civilians were killed in follow-up strikes when they had gone to help victims and more than 20 civilians have also been attacked in deliberate strikes on funerals and mourners..."
Derek-381097, your prompt denial and subsequent angry tirade tells me that you did not make it to the mirror. Dishonesty to oneself is the most grievous and harmful sin of all. Confession cleanses the soul.
I agree. You totally should confess. You know you are wrong, but guess what.
I forgive you, Commonsense. Now go try to live up to your name.
Well, I gotta say, terrible events like this really can bring the stupid out of some people. I'd estimate that at least 40% of the posts were blindly political. Perhaps another 15-20% were just pure hateful nonsense. Only a small percent of posters actually expressed any kind of sympathy for the dead and their families.
Twenty eight people died from this incident, at the hands of an obvious madman, for no earthly reason anyone (besides him) can fathom. How about we take a moment and think about them instead of bashing each other and making this into a liberal/conservative BS argument? Not being a parent myself, I can't even begin to imagine the anguish the families of the victims are feeling right now. But I'd say, it's a fair guess that they would not appreciate the deaths of their loved ones being trivialized by a bunch of narrow-minded (expletive)s, the vast majority of who have no idea what they're going through, all so they can spew political agendas, lies, hatred and venom.
Let's try to show a modicum of respect, huh people?
What a sad day and our hearts go out to each family affected and the nation mourns for you. However, how even more disappointing that Democrats and liberals didn't even wait a few hours before turning this into a political debate on gun control.
We are a free nation and, unfortunately, free nations have tragedies. But taking away the freedoms are NOT the solution. When someone gets hurt using a lawnmower incorrectly we don't talk about banning lawnmowers. When a person uses a car incorrectly, or drives drunk, and hurts/kills others we don't talk about banning cars. When a building is built incorrectly and collapses we don't talk about banning buildings.
There are approximately 200 million guns in the United States owned by over 50 million gun owners (average gun owner has 4 guns). When you add military, law enforcement, etc. that total reaches 350 million guns in the United States. These types of events are unfortunate and finding out how to identify those who MIGHT use a gun for harmful reasons is smart and certainly something we need to do. But the gun itself is not the cause. In the land of "freedom" we don't take away rights under the pretense of "safety".
You see in the name of "safety' we could take away ALL rights of the people and arguably remove virtually all potential injury to individuals.
We can take away the First Amendment to peaceably assemble and then union rally's (such as in Michigan) could not occur thus no assaults could happen. Or the Wall Street Movement could not have occurred thus rapes and assaults could not happen. Or the right to free religion could be removed. A large number of violence could be related to religion: Antisemites hating Jews, Muslims hating Christians, and so on. If we took away the freedom of religion and forced EVERYBODY to follow one religion would that remove those threats?
Or how about the 4th Amendment: If we took that away and allowed the police to search our autos, houses, or persons at any time couldn't we argue our society would be safer? But safer from what? Do you want a knock on your door and the police are doing random inspections? Is THAT the life you want for the supposed belief of less violence?
What if we eliminated the 8th Amendment and allowed "cruel and unusual" punishment? What if we allowed suspects to be whipped and given electronic shocks. Wouldn't that give us much more information thus a safer society? Just the FEAR of being questioned by police certainly would cause much less crime - wouldn't it? But are you ready to give us freedom for the promise of security?
And would "gun control" eliminate these types of attacks? No they wouldn't. In countries where guns have been banned they have many attacks by machetes. China has had strict gun control for years but over the last 2 years have had nearly a dozen (that we know about) attacks on children by knife wielding individuals killing scores of children. Ironically just today a knife wielding individual stabbed over 22 children in a Chinese school but that news has fallen due to our tragedy but the point is the same. Crazy people will still do crazy things. Whether that is a crazy person taking a legally owned gun and shooting children or taking a legally owned machete and/or knives and killing children.
The problem is NOT the gun or machete or knife: It is the person USING the gun or machete or knife. So why do over 50 million LEGAL gun owners need to be punished? And how will they protect themselves when a machete wielding individual enters THEIR house?
The danger is to arbitrarily think TAKING AWAY rights for the purposes of "protecting" us will actually do so. Benjamin Franklin once said "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". And that quote applies as much today as it did in 1755 (ironically Sept. 11, 1755). Those who think giving up freedoms and liberties for the purposes of "purchasing" additional safety WILL get neither.
Be careful what you are willing to give up because it is easy to be fooled into giving up "liberties" you believe we can live without but one day they will go to take away a liberty you DO care about but it will be too late. The problem today was not due to a need for gun control. Gun Control will NOT fix this type of problem. But Gun Control WILL start the downward spiral of taking away more and more freedoms until you have nothing left. Thomas Jefferson said it best when he said "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it away".
Oh no!

ProBusiness, no one wants to take away your guns. It's about gun control which is what the NRA is against.
It is a sad day when any tragedy happens that not only plagues the nation but has most of us wondering "WHY"? It's really sad when we can't simply get together and voice our opinions without being called names or insulted for just that, our opinions.
For those that say we need to "arm the teachers" I ask why? Aren't there enough guns in the school already with the Resource Officers (fancy word for police officers that work the school grounds) that are suppose to patrol the school grounds looking for people that are out of place? Again I can't "assume" that the school in question had them but that may be something to think about down the line before we take the "Give everyone a gun" approach. What's really disturbing is that this is what, the third incident in about two weeks, not to mention how many we have had this year? I mean I don't believe we need to "take all the guns off the street" but I do believe that we can find some consensus for tighter gun control laws or modify the ones that are currently on the books.
Realistically speaking is it going to happen, NO, there are too much politics and "posturing" being done to not only deflect but bury the whole "gun" issue when it does come up just like they did when the incident dealing with Gabby Giffords happen. There was talk about gun laws then nothing, faded to black like everything else. AGAIN, for all of those that didn't read it the first time, I am NOT saying we need to "take everyone's guns away", I am saying we need to take a closer look at WHO we let buy guns in this country. Will this alleivate the problem, no but it's a good start.
Oh and for those that didn't believe the President's words were genuine when he was talking about the senseless deaths of 20 children and 8 adults, may God have mercy on your souls.....
The reporting of this incident is a telling illustration of how the media jumps to conclusions and provides misinformation in the race to be 'first with the news'.
The media got so much wrong and the 'facts' kept changing. We aren't even close to knowing the whole story.
And yet look at how conservatives villified Susan Rice for not getting all the facts right on Benghazi, an incident which occured at night in a foreign country.
Our media had it a lot easier on this story and they still got almost every fact wrong at first report.
The brother, Ryan Lanza, has been villified in social media on top of everything else he has to endure. He should have our sympathy too.
Pat
I love your posts and understand and feel your frustration but gun laws alone won't stop this. The genie is out of the bottle. And yes, the NRA loves to climb in bed with the repugnicans. But even if you banned all guns today, the ones that are already out there will mostly stay there. Not all guns are registered, nor do they have to be. Most, arguably all, of the perps who commit this kind of act are mentally ill. Professionals have been building profiles on this kind of person for a long time. The problem is that many people fit this profile but never go ballistic. Where do we start? Clearly, we need to take mentally ill persons more seriously as a potential threat. I suggest that in spite of the paranoid delusions of the NRA and the reich wing, it's time for all guns to be registered. If Joe Blow sells a gun to his buddy and fails to report it, it's a crime. We need to establish links between the mentally ill and access to guns. But the last thing we should do is try to get rid of them. That will be impossible. I suggest that maybe teachers should be allowed to carry in school and if they desire, train them with them. There are many things to consider in this complex problem. And bullying factors in there somewhere too. And, yes, it would be nice if the wh0re$ in the repugnican party would tell the NRA to %^$# off. Another big plus would be for Americans en masse to part ways with the NRA and recognize that they are simply another rich bunch of fat cats trying to line their nests and doing so with the blood of our children and neighbors. If their membership dried up, their power would evaporate. The GOP doesn't sleep with poor people. We all know that.
Probusiness,
It couldn't and shouldn't wait. 130,000 murders in the past decade because Reagan closed so many mental institutions and republicans cut funding for them back in the 80's. My cousin is already talking about how her guns protects her family. How many were saved yesterday because someone owned a gun? I only read about mass murders at school, universities, military forts, in backyards, in homes, at Malls family members murdering whole families. Are these people owning guns sane before they get the guns or is it the guns that make them insane???
Probusiness,
Some people might have waited, but since there was just a mass murder in Oregon on Tuesday and there will probably be more next week when is the right time? NOW!
Here is how the 2nd Amendment starts:
"A well regulated militia ..."
There is a word in there that most people seem to miss - REGULATED. So, the founding fathers were apparently all in favor of gun control. Gun control, you see, is very different from gun banning.
Can you drive a car without a licence? Do you have your licence taken away if you violate the rules too many times? Can you drive a 50 foot armored car with spiked wheels at 100 miles an hour past a school?
No - it's because we have "Car control". This is for all those bringing up the asinine point that cars kill as well, so we shouldn't control guns.
We shouldn't ban guns. But we should definitely control them. We should make sure that people who own guns know how to use them, respect them. They should be mentally stable. The guns shouldn't be military-grade. There should be certain places where they should never be allowed.
Seems fairly straightforward - but there is too much money to be made in continuing the slaughter of our children.
Spin it how you want PP but that "well regulated militia" has to do with the people and control thereof making up that militia. Not the weapons they utilize.
Nice try though. Bet some will jump right on your bandwagon.
To all the fans of guns:
How many children have to get killed by guns before its time to remove them for the country ?
One Million
Ten thousand
One hundred
Ten
Maybe your son or daughter ?
Beverly,
That guy you posted about is a good example of a paranoid delusional that Foxites seem to listen to for an inexplicable reason. All they ever say in response to these tragedies is "moar gunz!" and yet when more guns are introduced the number of these incidents tends to increase. Gun sales have been up for the past two or three years. The number of gun related homicides that involved an innocent third party have also gone up drastically.
If one does not see a correlation between the two then you might just be an idiot (not aimed at Bev but at the idiots listening to this idiot on Fox). Further arming a populace does not put and end to crime, it intensifies it by allowing much easier access to weaponry. This is a perfect example of this precept. This town was a low crime area. Yet this teacher had two guns in her home. She did not follow gun safety instructions and store those guns in a gun cabinet or safe and obviously stored them with the ammo. She also had a son at home with mental health issues, which means her lack of following safety guidelines is even more important.
This crime that was committed was not a crime of hatred or maleficence, it was once of continence. Some may be scratching their head but hear me out. Had those guns been securely locked away and not with the ammo this would not have happened. Her son was not going to go out and buy guns to do this, in fact he may not have been able to (some states do not let you buy guns till your 21, this guy was 20).
As a gun owner you are responsible and task with making sure that your guns cannot fall into the hands of those that would use them against other people without just cause. Obviously this woman failed to do this miserably and paid the price with her life, her son's life, and the life of 20 kids and five other adults.
Talk to the Hand - how exactly do you limit "regulated" to the people but not their weapons? Is a stringent gun licensing policy regulation of the guns or of the people who would buy those guns?
In your haste to toe the NRA line, you have missed the basic point entirely. Why shouldn't there be control of guns when we have control of pretty much everything else (cars, alcohol, cigarettes, to name a few)? You are perfectly fine with people having to wait till the age of 17 and having to pass eyesight/written/driving tests before they can get behind the wheel of a car, but you are not fine with people having to pass a background check, a mental evaluation, and a test of the basic rules of gun ownership before they are sold something that can be used to kill 20 kids?
At what point do PEOPLE become more important to the NRA than their damned guns? How many more dead do they have to have before they see the correlation between easy gun access and these tragedies.
JenLee will stupidly talk about China - it's all she has - which has NOTHING to do with the US. How many mass murders in the US have NOT involved guns? NONE! She, however, keeps harping on China because it is ALL she knows - she has nothing else.
Let's talk reality which is what is happening here in the US. We need to have stricter gun laws - the NRA be damned! There have to be criminal and mental backgrounds done before ANY gun sale and ALL guns need to be registered - no exceptions. Anyone who doesn't follow the rules should spend 10 years in jail - no early probation.
And, jenlee, if you're so damned focused on China - go there!
You simply cannot ban or mandate "crazy". However, you don't take away rights from 300 million people because we have a crazy person or two. If it wasn't a gun it would have been a bomb, machete, knives, etc.
The lunacy is to think taking away 200 million guns from law-abiding individuals will somehow stop "crazy". It won't. The solution? We don't need gun control - we need "crazy" control. We don't take rights from one group because "crazy" in another group decided to use a gun.
Peter Punn: You must have missed class when you studied history and the Constitution. It is not hard to see, and the Supreme Court has upheld in multiple decisions, that in that time period the people WERE the militia. So it said a "well regulated militia" meaning the PEOPLE will always have the need to protect themselves and the country. So the 2nd amendment means THE PEOPLE!!
But let's go one step further. Thomas Jefferson had multiple comments about the rights of the people to own guns confirming the second amendments purpose. For example Thomas Jefferson said:
1) "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny in government"
So how could the 2nd amendment imply the right is for the GOVERNMENT and MILITARY (as liberals like to believe) when the above CLEARLY states THE PEOPLE!!
2) "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms..disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one" (actually this was Thomas Jefferson quoting Cesare Beccaria a Criminologist at the time).
3) "I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it"
And let's not forget THIS quote from Thomas Jefferson:
4) "Those who hammer their guns into plows will plow for those who do not"
Gun ownership is critical to the freedoms and protections in this country. We must not confuse a need to control "crazy" as a need to control guns that "crazy people" get. Gun control is not the solution.
Odds are a well trained militia would only be extreme right wing anarchists trying to take over and make us a military state!
Odds are a well trained militia would only be extreme right wing anarchists trying to take over and make us a military state!
P Boston, absolutely the most ridiculous I've ever seen. And buddy, you've made a bunch.
Kornfed,
Ditto! Please stop posting your sick posts!
Pro Business - I'll set aside the basic argument about just why you think Thomas Jefferson's words are the gospel and what he said more than 200 years ago should still qualify as the absolute truth.
You take the position that we should not control guns, we should control crazy. So logically extrapolating from that, should we not ensure that the crazy people don't get guns? And wouldn't you construe that to be gun control?
And ironically, that is exactly the kind of gun control that I am suggesting - that people have to meet certain conditions and standards before they are allowed to own a gun. Unfortunately, the NRA has brainwashed enough people like you to believe that even that is anathema. That somehow it is ok to have a lower threshold to own a gun than to drive a car.
Vin,
and some of my relatives where among them. PLEASE don't use this lame excuse to describe Americans keeping guns to kill. None of the German public owned guns either. It is a disgusting comparison.
I came here as a young boy and remember that the Nazi's ran fake National Christians Democrats just like the republicans ran fake Democrats in Wisconsin. The Nazi's had voter suppression like many governors ( mostly republicans are trying now) and Wisconsin was proposing. I remember how the Nazi's got the German High Court to allow unlimited funding for elections just like the Robert's Court did in this last election so that they could buy elections. These are better examples, but leave the 6,000,000 Jews out of it.
Vin,
"Schools kill people!" How sick and inappropriate at this time!
Vin
What???????? Are you even rational? I have absolutely no idea what point you are attempting to make.

Why are ALL of these shootings happening in "BLUE" states?
The picture of a caring human being president and father; unlike the media whores over @ Faux news proselytizing the NRA.
Bev; It is not just the president; tears came to my eyes just reading about this. What is wrong with us?
I can pray and it just does not work. God help us all.
Beverly,
The above picture shows a man with children of his own ... Wayne LaPierre of the NRA could only wish he had a fraction of the grace, class and empathy President Obama possesses.

Bev; It is not just the president; tears came to my eyes just reading about this. What is wrong with us?

Exit0,
I have a ten year old great- grandson my one and only grand child, whom I love with, all my heart. Can you imagine the tears coming from me here in the so-called murder capital of the USA?
I can't even fathom talking to him. Last year he lost his grandmother, my one and only daughter. But, I'll find a way to be strong to talk to him and my grand daughter.
Watching President Obama during this news conference reminded me - once again - why I voted for him. He is strong - yet compassionate. Caring - and believable in his grief. He clearly feels the pain these parents are feeling and can relate as a parent.
His intense feelings are what make him a great leader. We are SO lucky to have him as leader of our country.
I think the most important thing to do here is get right down to the business of taking people's guns away from them. We've allowed our citizens to live with the dignity of protecting themselves and their families for far too long now. It's about time that the freedom to defend ones person be snuffed out once and for all. After all, self-reliance is an outdated concept from a foregone era of barbarism. We have government, WAL*MART, and the big eye in the sky to take care of us now. They'll make sure everything is running smoothly no doubt. So there's really no need for guns anymore...
Just brush aside the fact that this is the least violent era in the history of humankind. That the amount of people that die from acts of violence in the Western World is lower than ever. We must brush these facts aside because we will never be safe until most - nay, EVERY - last shred of violence is eradicated. Because this is a very realistic - nay, a very ADULT - expectation to have.
Yes, we will not let any barrier of human freedom, dignity, or liberty stand in our way until every conceivably bad thing is eliminated from the earth. I don't care how authoritarian we have to get, how much human liberty we have to curtail, we simply can't live in a world where anything bad ever happens. If anything bad DOES happen - well then we must summarily punish the entire human race (my what secular times we live in!).
And once that phase is complete, we can start making sure that no bad thoughts are ever thought by anyone. Then we'll move onto bad phrases, bad looks, bad gestures...
Yes, we have alot of work ahead of us. So again, lets get right down to the business of eliminating guns.
... darkness of the heart led to such tragedies, aided and abetted by the Supreme Court that promoted unlimited gun ownership in their decision of McDonald v. Chicago.
.
Imagine only if such deviants don't have such powerful weapons!!
Travis,
I'll ignore the drivel you call sarcasm. However, as one who lives in Connecticut, I'm confused as to your "Soviet Occupied New England" ... you do realize the Soviet Union ceased to exist, right, brain surgeon??
Really? You are extolling the dignity of such people as this mass murderer? You call this "dignity"?
How about the dignity of being able to go to a mall, go to school, go watch a movie without having to worry about getting shot?
How about the dignity of having a nation that doesn't suffer from PTSD? How about the dignity of a nation that doesn't mourn senseless violence every day.
Ah...I get it now. It's all right for a few people to die. Since many others aren't dead, a few is OK. Right.
Really? You have just tried to make the argument that since it is not possible to eradicate EVERY bit of violence, NOTHING must be done. And then you talk about "adult" expectations.
And who will liberate us from the fear of being shot every time we step out of our homes?
I am sorry to say but you have no clue what human freedom, dignity or liberty is. You use these words very prettily, but there is no understanding of what they actually are.
Beverly your response is just as disgusting as anyones! YOU are politicizing this!!! Fox news is not here, but your are here -- spewing your hate.
Stop it!!!!!
These families are hurting and all you can do is talk about politics. There are dead children in Ct & you want to bash a news channel? Attitudes like that are what is WRONG with this country!
Beverly -
Why so much hate? Is that really the answer?
You act is if a caring father is owned by only one person in this country. You have a ways to go on your journey.
Beverly, I hope that someday you find comfort in the realization that just because someone doesn't agree with you on a political front, it doesn't make them the devil incarnate. It must be very difficult to walk down the street and realize that almost every other person you see doesn't agree with you.
millerz - does your response to Beverly also include Travis? After all, he's politicizing this too and trying to be sarcastic as well. How about it?
Beverly, you are a despicable person. Instead of looking at a cold, solid, inanimate object as the culprit, look at an evil person who would find a way to accomplish his horrific purpose. A bomb could have accomplished the same thing, but since you are so warped, all you see is a republican as the cause. Truly pathetic.
It is far more difficult to create a homemade bomb than it is to grab a handgun. Similarly, eight adults could have taken down the assailant if all he had was a knife. Stop hiding behind the "Guns don't kill people" bumper sticker and look at it rationally: If there is a way to make MURDER more difficult, then it should be done!!!
Mass, one word: BRAINWASHED
In times of great sorrow like this, it is so good to have a President that is capable of empathy enough to cry for the young lives taken and their families. Having your child murdered like that is the worst fear of a parent and one of the most painful experiences in life. My heart and thoughts of sympathy extend out to those who must go on now without their child, husband, wife, father, or mother. There are no words that can truly bring comfort. So I pray for your strength and healing.
I feel really bad about what happend to those kids and teachers, but there is no one on the face of this earth that will be able to take my guns away from me. I work hard and I take care of my family, I do all the right things. I have the right to owe my guns and no one can take that from.
Massachusettz
It is actually not overly difficult to create a homemade bomb.
Real terrorism is so close to home.
"Real terrorism is so close to home."
The NRA is a terrorist organization and should be treated as such.
First of all, as a parent, my heart goes out to the parents of all those affected by this horrific tragedy. But, I find it extremely disturbing that the news is so focused on the emotional reaction of the President. I can't comprehend how the media can be so bold as to spin this nightmarish act of violence into propaganda. We should focus our empathy towards the parents who lost their precious babies.
Here's a simple truth that the NRA fails to understand. The more demand they create for weapons with their fear campaign, the greater the supply of guns, especially hand guns and assault weapons, in our country. The greater the supply, the easier it becomes for the wrong people to have those weapons.
The NRA's constant noise influences people like S&W who will go to any length to "owe my guns."
"The picture of a caring human being president and father; unlike the media whores over @ Faux news proselytizing the NRA."
Crocodile tears... he doesn't give a damn unless it's politically driven. That racist in the White House does this time and time again... sure he's sorry, but only because he can make himself look good. NRA??? What' that have to do with anything??? THis guy would have done this with or without guns... he could have used knives, a baseball bat, you name it.
Stop blaming people that are innocent. This guy did what he did because he could. Had he had parents that tought him right and wrong, I doubt the outcome would have been the same.
I want to thank the ignorant gun nuts for giving America a glimpse into just how @!$%#ed up your priorities are...
There is nothing I can say that could begin to shed a light onto you cold, black hearted, bastards, thankfully, I don't have to, you are doing a mighty fine job of that all by yourselves!
The very same @!$%#s who are screaming about politicizing this tragic event, are doing JUST THAT!
All I will say is, karma is a bitch and someday will visit you...
Sadden America
The real sadness come from knowing that people like you are Americans. You obviously hate the President .... we get it. I don't know if you are a racist, but for you to call the President a racist is so obviously ridiculous that it only identifies you as someone who is not ready to have a rational, adult conversation.
You say that President Obama does not really care. What an absolutely boneheaded statement. You have no idea about anyone's real feelings with the possible exception of your immediate family and a few close friends, so your statement is only an unfounded insult based only on your own hateful mind.
Your remark that this guy could have done the same crime with a baseball bat really tops everything as an irrational statement. The NRA really needs more mental giants like you to plead their cause that guns are not a problem in our society.
Your final boneheaded statement was to blame this crime on poor parenting without any supporting evidence. Good parenting is important, but not every good person had great parents and not every crime is committed by someone whose parents failed. By the way, did you learn your hateful attitudes from your parents? Just wondering.
ps Please change your screen name. Your attitude is un-American and your screen name should not be one that allows you to display your obviously fake patriotism.

Boy all you socialist liberal POS, first of all you might take away all the weapons from law abiding Americans but you will never ever take them away from criminals and wackos! Where is your outrage when your trasonous American Murdering POS Obama allowed 4 Americans get brutally murdered in Lybia while he sat and watched it unfold via live drone? Where is your outrage when your trasonous American Murdering POS Obama gives billions to terrorists that kills Americans? Where is your outrage when your trasonous American Murdering POS Obama is obviously faking a tear to make himself look like he gives a damn, just like he did for the Americans who lost everything to Sandy, they are still waiting for his promised help even after they voted for his sorry Anti-American arss? This shooting has nothing to do with politics, it has nothing to do with guns, but leave it up to all the American hating socialist democrats to take a horrific tragedy and turn it into guns and politics! None of you even cares about the children who where killed, your blaming republicans proves it!
Please refer to the classic example "A" above;

hey fiesty I hope you are not a registered gun owner, as goes the rest of you ranting and raving too. The govt sees all e-mails and I guarantee that they will will use EVERY WORD you say against you.you will loose your gun rights and you drivers license's because once your labeled unstable they dont want you driving and have a road rage attack and you can forget about flying who WANTS people spouting revenge and karma and wishing ill upon your fellow citizen at 30,000 feet and have a breakdown !
one only has to remember all the people fired and suspended from schools over facebook posts and they were tame compared to you ...What we need to focus is on what made (2) 20 yrs old males in less than a week go on shooting rampage and kill innocent people. Yes the gun was the TOOL but not the motive or the reason, something is happening just 3 days ago a women in china entered a school with a machete and killed 20 little children and they have a strict gun laws in china as does mexico, however people will still kill people not because of how they did it but because of WHY THEY DID IT !!!!!
You will never know Mikey, as for the rest of your rant, PARANOID much, my impotent little friend... lol

Similarly, eight adults could have taken down the assailant if all he had was a knife.
The young man in China sliced up 22 elementary kids in China before enough adults were able to subdue him. And you are talking about a country filled with people trained in martial arts.
One trained person with a concealed weapon on the school would have stopped these people a lot sooner.
Here's links from around the world that illustrate what I am saying.

Of the dozens of shootings and attempted shootings I have read about, most shootings are stopped before they occur because someone gets wind of the plot and squeals. Of those that are not found out about, most end when the shooter kills himself, or a person or persons manage to tackle the shooter (risky and must be done by surprise or they get shot themselves. Police almost never shoot the suspect.
While I do not advocating all teachers be armed ( the storage and risk is just too high ), someone in the schools SHOULD BE.
Not a lifetime ban, just time off. General flaming of liberals or conservatives is not directing at a specific viner usually is not banned.
We must have a national discussion about killing. This country has, for a long time now, politicized, romanticized, glamorized, and glorified killing. It has in fact, set about lately, an attempt to politicize, and neutralize the raping of women, and likely will, at some time soon, commence an attempt to do the same with underage female children. The nation is fed this horrendous diet of warped perversity almost constantly through It's myriad of media, and entertainment outlets, along with ancillary retail outlets. We are in fact, becoming a nation of rationalized killers, from adolescence through the remainder of our lives. Is it any wonder the insane, the dimwitted, the easily swayed, find it an act of sociable prestige to go out and kill someone? We are all deep in this. We have indeed lost our way. Any correction must begin through the will of the people, and not through any political or religious induced dictums. The lives of many innocents await the awakening of our conscience. The innocents, the dependent, the physically weak, are the closest we are all likely ever to be to ANGELS. We must alter this madness.
Fiesty red head 2-30
The right wing DOES know that other wise is one word, not two.
Brush-up on your own spelling before you're critical of others.
The extreme right wing and NRA need to quit telling lies and making up stories that scare people like murfr5 because these people are the ones that end up doing stupid things like what happened today. The NRA and extreme right wing want us to take up arms against our own government because they tell you that our current president is treasouns and anti american and that he can't be trusted. In my opinion the NRA and extreme right wing are anti american. President Obama won the election and they need to get over it. The people have spoke and its time to get behind our President and support him.
I'd also like to add that I'm a hunter and I own a couple of shot guns of which I keep locked up in my gun cabinet. I'm the only one that has a key to this cabinet so my grandkids or anyone else can't get ahold of my guns. Why does a Kindergarten teacher need 2 semi automatic hand guns and why weren't they locked up? If people would just lock there guns up some of these terrible events wouldn't happen. In my opinion you shouldn't be able to own gun unless you've gone through fire arms safety and everyone should be required to keep there fiire arms locked up in a gun safe. Of course the NRA wants you to keep a loaded gun under your bed.

You're right.

Tomas, While I respect your opinion as expressed, I personally would find it much more effective if you would point out the worst of both sides. The fact that you choose to pick a side when condemning an excess, may lead some to consider you bias.
lying democrats - LIAR!
jrl - where is your anger at the ones on the right who are saying this is all because of liberals? Oh, that's right - HYPOCRIT!
Lying democrats,
From your posts I think that they should have you under a watch. Do you own any guns? So sad the right, NRA and FOX have so brainwashed you guys!
Stop the NRA! The newest yet oldest terrorist organization in America!
Lying republicans,
The shooter was a conservative teabugger!
Please, Bev and all your liberal anti-Second Amendment crowd! All Bozobama was so sad about is that he won't be able to tax these poor victims' income to a 40 or 50% level and demonize them for their success as he does it. The community organizer-in-chief does try to put on a good show and all, though, pretending to care about people and not just their money.
Well..you have to ignore people like Beverly. Her racist remarks are legendary on here. So here is a question to you anti-2nd amendment proponents, what exactly do you want to have happen? You want to outlaw all guns? You want to change or rewrite the Constitution? I mean, what is your suggestion? I keep hearing all this rhetoric from the left about how we should have more gun regulation, but what is your solution? All talk and no action...
Seeking Sanity, did you not read the comment? Do you not understand there is a problem on both sides?

I had a post for this week
But my heart suddenly just ain’t in it
In fact that sucker is damn near broke again
Kids damn it. What kind of sick individual shoots down Kids in cold blood
Words and solace cannot bring the dead back and are in fact on days like today hollow and meaningless
I am filled with rage and a feeling of impotence at a society that cannot even Protect it’s Children
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
T'was Grace that taught...
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear...
the hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares...
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far...
and Grace will lead us home.
The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.
When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me....
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.
Today 26 futures died and all it took was one man and a gun.
We are blind, when will we see?

I can think of no more egregious example of how extreme Rhetoric and Hyperbole has been used to stifle Debate and the Search for solutions to the Tragedy that is being visited upon innocent children thru out our land. The President has on several occasions attempted to point out the Fallacy of giving into the siren song of defining your position by bumper sticker slogans, logic and phrases. For the last 30 years we have allowed this type of rhetoric to burrow so deeply into our conscience and divide us that many times it seems we are incapable of the rational thought that it will take for this Tragedy to be addressed in any meaningful manner. We should all be ashamed of this and we should all set down and take a long hard look at whether or not we are contributing to the problem rather than offering as much of positive solution as possible under the present circumstances. We owe these children and many more like them no less than our best effort.
Our friends of the more Liberal persuasion need to come off some of their Rhetoric. Responsible folks that own firearms do not “cling” to them to the exclusion of other considerations. Last fellow I knew that clung to the 357 under his pillow had a bad dream one night thereby hastening his conversation with Saint Peter. It is also not an ingrained cultural thing among rednecks and backwoods men and women. You need to look no further than the cross section represented by our Military to realize that isn’t true. It is true that there are cultural differences but we should not present these cultural differences as a negative. Why don’t we look at the difference as a more positive instead? How about facilitating some of the more practiced among us and our returning Military heroes in passing on some of the skills and ethical training that we have received. If we can convince one group of people that opening the window on a car and spraying a curb or a house indiscriminately is inherently a cowardly and reprehensible act and has no place in a civilized society then we will have contributed positively.
Our friends of the more right leaning persuasion have got a bunch of rhetoric they need to come off of too. First the conversation that we need to have doesn’t have a doggon’ thing to do with the “Gubment” and those pesky “libruls” wanting to gather up Old Betsy in some kind of ‘ism plot to deprive you of your freedoms. Seriously let’s get real here friends and neighbors you don’t really believe that horsepucky do you? You’ll know and I know that the vast majority of you would no more take up arms and seek “Second Amendment Solutions” against your fellow citizens than there is a man in the moon. So quit letting the extremists and their rhetoric define you as being something you aren’t. You are better than that and you are smarter than that. Instead of supporting some d@mn fool waving his firearm around in the Park and spouting a bunch of nonsense that is going to p!ss off 50% of the society that you claim to be an integral part of why don’t you set down and do a little soul searching and come up with a positive contribution for your expertise and knowledge in this area. The vast majority of us would look much more favorably upon positive input and it would contribute greatly to uniting rather than dividing.
Folks we have a bunch of problems to deal with nowadays. Mainly because we have let Extreme Rhetoric become too large a factor in our National life and to shape too many of our National Discussions and used as an excuse by our Leadership to avoid Workable Solutions to the Ills that Plague us. We owe these Children and the Pain that has been inflicted upon their Families our best effort at a workable solution to heading off just as many of these Tragedies as we can.
Guns just don't belong in civilized societies and before people start comparing guns to cars, why don't they first try hunting with "cars", they may indeed be successful in getting some road kill for dinner.
We should be striving for a society where even the police don't have to carry weapons that can cause mass killings and not glorifying guns. Guns sole purpose is to kill living things and only help amplify the damages caused by nut cases like these.
Let me know when you have persuaded the ALL of the criminals to turn in ALL of their weapons.
Then and only then I might consider turning mine in too.
Hell Truth be told there Ed if one of them criminal Fellers did show up your more'n apt to get yourself all excited and shoot yourself in the foot or a$$ or something. I tell you what folks like yourself scare me more than any Criminal ever did. Hell if a criminal shoots me at least I know he meant it unlike somebody like yourself who's more'n apt to send me to visit Old St. Peter because somebody stepped on some Bubble Wrap and I got caught in the cross-fire
It won't be ling before the NRA will come out with this idea that IF more people had guns and if guns were easier to obtain, we would have fewer mass shootings like this. And they will probably suggest that kindergarten children should be allowed to bring guns to school.
Charlie -- A few of the commenters further up the vine already have suggested that. I was going to suggest to them that maybe kindergarten teachers should take their students to firing ranges and teach the 5-year-olds how to handle assault weapons, but I thought they might take it seriously and think it's a good idea. Truth is stranger than fiction.
you're right, Charlie. The NRA's solution is always to add more guns. It's like buying someone in an alcoholic stupor another drink thinking they'll drink themselves sober. Logic knows no bounds.
@ Independent Redneck Va.
Because you haven't the intelligence or training to properly handle a firearm, doesn't mean everyone is as incompetent as you.
I'll continue to train in various scenarios and tactics, and keep punching neat little groups of holes in my intended targets.
After all, this is America, and you are allowed the freedom to become a defensless victim if you or your loved ones are in a similar situation.
If you find yourself in a FAIR fight, your tactics suck.
Nope you can't predict when some Nutjob is going to do something like this. However contrary to your idiotic post we can pretty much predict what he's going to use to carry it out. And let me clue you in dumb ass it ain't going to be no Chain saw.
Ed……Just so you know I spent the formative years of my life toting a firearm of one variety or another. Then I was further trained by Uncle Whiskers and some of the finest rifle shooters in the world who taught me very well how to use it in anger. After that hunting kind of lost its appeal but I did shoot completive for about 20 years. Even with bad eyes and a little shake in the hands on a good day I’m 4” at 600 yards with a Model 70. 4 custom Kimbers in the cabinet and more shotguns than you can shake a stick at. In other words I am a white gun toting good old southern boy with a sometimes sudden disposition. As such do you not think that I have “heard” from half of the two bit militia, separatist, survivalists in these here United States. You know what. They sounded a whole lot like you did in your post.Just cause you got a paper @!$%# don’t mean that it means anything to me. Now run along little man and punch you some more imaginary holes in some more imaginary paper. The Range Master at your local shootery is probably the only reason that you ain’t shot yourself in the ass. Tip him well this Christmas I probably trained and certified him
Only one word sums up your last post........clueless.
No Ed Not Clueless. I've dealt with Faux Warriors like yourself for a long time. We all know them. Fellers that think that they can make up for their inadequacies with so-called "proficiency" with weapons. I actually feel very sorry for you and hope that you are never put in the position of where your fantasy becomes reality. Because even if you perform half so well as you think you will you're going to find that the aftermath haunts you for the rest of your life. And that's the God's Honest Truth Like it or Not
Good responses Independent Redneck. You chopped Ed down like a tree. I bet he's out emptying a few clips into his intended targets secretly hoping it was one of us "liberal pantywaists" out to take his guns. That couldn't be farther from the truth if it wanted to be. I 've always thought that the first step in resolving a problem is to first admit that there is a problem. It's seems the gun toting NRA devotees won't admit that. That is what has to change, but I doubt it will.
Redneck, okay, so it haunts him, but he'll be ALIVE because of being willing and able to defend himself. Is something wrong with that?
No kraussk he's probably going to be dead because somebody took his gun away from him and beat him to death with it. 'Cause chances are 75% to 25% that He'll screw it up. What all the Faux Warriors forget is that life rarely follows fantasy and for every one good outcome that Our Hero up there can imagine there are about twenty five bad outcomes that He can't. And most of them happen in a split second and lead to a life time of regrets and second guessing.
Regardless of your politics, it was very moving to see President Obama speak with such emotion. I truly believe he was speaking as a father and not just the President of the United States.
At this point, with all of the people out there rambling about the rights to bear arms, we just need to ignore them and focus on sitting down and thinking how we can solve these problems. How we can get in touch with those who are depressed before they commit such senseless acts of violence.
Well said on all points.
Agreed, I may need to cancel my plans tonight and be home with my children. Been on the verge of breaking down all day over this...sure it will happen sometime this evening
Well said Am Chi
Am chi , a couple yrs ago , 2 incidents took place at around the same time. Pres Obama won the nobel peace prize & a gifted child was filmed being beaten to death in Chicago with clubs & kicked & it made natl news . It was a day just like every other day in Chicago . They had been having a bad string of young ppl killing young ppl , mostly gang related. The right wing attacked Obama saying he'd done nothing to deserve the prize. I had emailed the White House & asked that he consider donating half the prize money to social groups in Chi to give kids a safe place for recreation & maybe safe transportation for inner city kids & maybe even programs to help escape the dirt covering most of this city he called home. He claimed to remember his roots well & even kept his home there & said he felt empathy for the ppl there. I also suggested he use the other half of the money to provide programs to help children in west bank to help jewish & palestinians come together in a non threatening environment where they could look into the eyes of others that ppl say are their enemies. Obama could say to the rest of the world , i cant tell you how to live , without first showing we also need to work on our problems of living together in respect & caring. I said in the email to him , this would silence his critics on the right & maybe even save some lives & do you know what their response was? A form reply thank you & nothing else. Since then hundreds of children have been murdered in Chicago & not 1 act from Obama or his friend R. Emanuel , at least nothing of any substance. I'm sick of all politicians on both sides . Obama , you really care about young ppl dying , start where you know killing will be happening every other day , your old neighborhood & weep for their lost lives.
Right on, solutions. The Bozobama is big on coming out to score political points on the heels of a tragedy if it suits his purposes, but otherwise he believes they are just worthless. This guy is as phony as the Bozobama dollar bill they used in the campaign.
We are a very sick society...come quickly Lord Jesus
Keep Clinging To Your Guns...and Evil continues to prevail.
this has nughing to do with god. this has to do with a Waco nothing more nothing less
Never been shot at all that much, have you, lying democrats?
It's been a long time since I said anything on newsvine. This tragedy should not have happened. All I can ask is what kind of environment was this shooter brought up in? Not only this shooter but every other mass murderer who has been produced ( a product of their upbringing) in the world. Today's world is as messed up as has ever been due to the greed and the entities who perpetuate greed such as religions that ask for 10% or whatever worldly possessions they can gain. All the prayer in the world will not stop people from being destructive. Destruction is something that has been bred into the people of the world. We should be praying for the end of our own greed and that which we destroy of our EARTH. I am as guilty as most people for I have more than I need. We teach our children to want more than necessity provides and set them up for disappointment. Who is to blame for the acts of a mass murderer? Everybody in their world who did not teach them LOVE. It is time for the people of the world to get for real about petty differances and accept their neighbors with LOVE. This is not a world of one religion, and nobody can make it to be. I am under the impression that most people of the world believe in a higher power and something to aspire to after death. Leaving money or other material wealth to our children or any other worldly organization doesn't buy us a stairway to heaven. Perhaps UNITY and GIVING what we can to our neighbors who are in need of the basics will provide us with enlightenment. This is a time for the people of the world to realize how small we are alone and stand together as one. We cannot blame others for our failures to provide LOVE. All we can do is realize where our failures are at and adjust our own psyches to show LOVE.
i will take you gun away from you. fukc your rights, come shoot me like those cowards do, coz that's ALL what you are, hiding behind your guns, providing nothing to the safety of the children. your rights to bear have killed enough, don't you get it?
OK. Perhaps if someone in the school had their own gun this rampager would have not been allowed to kill so many.
Yes why won't the government allow children to carry concealed weapons to school? Spoken like a true NRA member.
Hey Yus, how's the gun ban in Chicago working out? Do you honestly think that thugs would give up their guns if there was a ban?
Hey Yus, how's the gun ban in Chicago working out? Do you honestly think that thugs would give up their guns if there was a ban?
alan_static.... too bad there is no 'stupid' button along with 'ignore', etc. because you deserve it. I was just waiting some idiot to claim that if others had been armed so many wouldn't have died. Who do you suggest we should arm in this situation? Some of the 5 year olds? It's thinking like this that keeps the guns in our society.
alan_static
OK. Perhaps if someone in the school had their own gun this rampager would have not been allowed to kill so many.
alan,
Just like the morons over @ Radio Rwanda aka FOX NEWS you advocate more guns and violence. This bothers me because you morons give very, very, sick people the reason to kill.
There is a possible law sitting on Governor Snyder's (Michigan) to allow guns to be carried in school and in churches. I was initially against it, but after this today, I believe I have changed my mind. Boxlover, please don't be dense. You know he meant a teacher or other school official.
Random pennsylvanian
Hey Yus, how's the gun ban in Chicago working out? Do you honestly think that thugs would give up their guns if there was a ban?
Random ,
Perhaps you haven't heard of the various organizations working with our youth to dissuade them from giving up guns. Do you know about the Reverend who lived in abandoned building. Do you think the NRA can stop straw men and guns sales?
Also, I don't appreciate you calling our children thugs. Try misguided next time.
Yus - you are so out of place here it is pitiful Your post is disgusting. Go away!
We can explain it to you but we can't understand it for you. Simply put, your the reason we have guns. By the way, the highest gun crime is in the blue (Obama) states. How's that liberal progressiveness agenda feel now. Looks like to me we need to ban democrats.
You are a complete idiot. Please show some micron of mentality before posting.
"There is a possible law sitting on Governor Snyder's (Michigan) to allow guns to be carried in school and in churches. I was initially against it, but after this today, I believe I have changed my mind."
So, lets say this had already passed, and now all the adults at this school DID have weapons. In that case, I predict a WHOLE LOT more dead people. Get all the cross fire going and no telling what would have happened. I really don't get the arguement that "concealed weapons" would have stopped this...
No Bev I think Thugs is a better description
The picture above tells the story, no words are necessary. When I see a picture like this, I just want to put my arms around them, and comfort them.
Antha
alan_static.... too bad there is no 'stupid' button along with 'ignore', etc. because you deserve it. I was just waiting some idiot to claim that if others had been armed so many wouldn't have died. Who do you suggest we should arm in this situation? Some of the 5 year olds? It's thinking like this that keeps the guns in our society.
Yeah, give guns to the kids. That's the first thing I thought of when I read Alan's coment....
Too bad we can't post links here but the highest state for gun violence is good ol LA as I had looked up states with these stats a year and a 1/2 ago because of this very debate. It may have changed by now but the last time I checked it WAS LA. Red states typically are the holders of this proud honour, not blues but nice try with the propaganda spin as usual.
Concealed carry means you have to pass a background check, cannot have a known psychological problem, must have periodic instruction and practice with it.
I have an alarm system on my home. I had to apply to the city for a permit and test it monthly to before they would allow me to have it.
You "get a grip" Nobody "wants to outlaw anything" so stop with the useless tired old red herring comparisons like cars, bats, knives and bricks troll. Run along now.
There is no doubt that this is a result of the NRA and their efforts to get guns into the hands of anyone who wants one.
Yes the NRA was there. The head of the NRA was there in person directing the shooter.
That isn't the point. Of course he wasn't there, but the NRA financially supports many lawmakers who then push for gun control laws to remain weak. If it weren't for the NRA, less people would have access to deadly weapons, and waiting periods would be longer. It would not be as easy for people to get their hands on weapons and ammunition. But bigger than just the NRA is that there has to be an easier way for people with emotional issues to get help.
arients; Stop using this tragedy to further your own agenda. You make me puke.
Everyone should start using this tragedy to defeat the NRA and their Republican whores to roll back access to guns.
nobland, when you insult people you've lost the argment. You've only reinforced the feeling I need a gun to protect my family and country from marxist like you.
Because without guns, the killers would have nothing to kill people with except knives, shivs, swords, flechette devices, bombs, cars, airplanes, train derailments, etc...
I agree nobody needs a full auto weapon. This guy didn't have one either. I do not know what level of gun control could have stopped this and if anyone does I would be interested in hearing how it would work. I do not own a gun, but I can't imagine being told by a Democrat that we need to give up more of our rights in this Country after they have whined and moaned about having their rights taken away at an airport because they want to be able to bring knives and weapons on an airplane.
@alan static - YES, he basically was. Bin Laden wasnt in the plane but he 100% caused it, right ? NO DIFFERENT. Guns SHOULD NOT BE LEGAL. PERIOD. Only redneck inbred losers support the nra, unfortunately there are still millions of them in this country. Innercity shootings happen all the time, usually over people fighting to survive in a society where poverty is the only thing theyve ever known. Inner city violence is caused by poverty and drugs, not by guns. @!$%# like this is because of hillbillys pretending guns are cool and their kids seeing and hearing that.
Mike you sound like a redneck just like me.
The NRA and people that support the constitution giving us the right to bear arms has nothing to do with this rampage -- you might as well blame it on violent, graphic video games. The shooter here and the one in OR were both 20 and dressed in combat gear -- any of that sound familiar? Given the divide in the country I'm afraid it's going to get worse. Givers vs takers.
you sure can tell the liberals on here!
Repeating that stupidity over and over does not make it true troll. Now will you just shut up already? I tire of seeing useless comments like these everywhere from "tools' like you so to ease my stress in having to deal with people who are not worth my time, I get rid of them.
Coming from someone who claimed in an earlier post that the shooter was a liberal.
Pot: "Kettle, you're black!"
By 'meaningful action' let's hope he doesn't mean more gun control.
Idiot.
Wow great comeback
It was eloquent.
Alan_static
I agree!
Idiot is a good response.
What color is the sky where you live? President Obama has signed two bills into law regarding firearms. Both increased gun rights. The right wing never allows the truth to get in the way of their narrative that the big bad boogie man wants to take away their right to bear arms. Let it go already.
school lock out . were you have to be let in. the school and so forth. escorted by teachers to the office and stat yoru biz
I have no love for liberals touting 'tolerance' and then can't tolerate an opinon they disagree with.
Like Anders Breivik... oh, wait, he was a right wing extermist. Golly, how could that be????
Arm the teachers! What other defense is there?
Put cops on campus.
The gunman would just take out the teacher first and then lock the door.
And it's 100 times more likely the gun would be found in a drawer by a student and then fatally shoot
a classmate by mistake than stopping a event like this
odds should make the rules and laws, so more guns is not the solution.
Yes, in addition to grading papers on their own time, buying school supplies, participating in extracurricular activities on their own time and being part-time parents, now we want teachers to be armed guards as well. I suppose they have to buy their own guns and pay for their own training as well, not to mention the sheer idiocy of having arms present in a classroom. Think things through, would you?
And what happens when that armed teacher has a nervous breakdown? Oh yeah that's right, since other teachers also have guns, we can have a good ol shoot out at the school....just brilliant....
Yeah right, a union member with a license to kill. Might as well have the Soviet or Chinese Army guard the school while our troops are off saving islam from itself.
Couldn't we just install metal detectors and mantraps at the school and trap anyone that brings in a gun?
For the uninformed:
Lets just send the kids to prison for learning. America is a partial free country(except the debt we slave over) schools are a place of learning not a maximum security institution. The best resolve is to teach the staff defense skills and secretly arm some of them to defend the campus for this type of event. A gun man will get in no matter. If the gun man knows he will have alot of resistance then he will probably change his mind. Why dont gunman attack federal buildings? This reason.
ban handguns and semi-automatic weapons.
Maybe we can come up with a bipartisan approach to this epidemic. Maybe if we called this an act of terror, we will finally take action.
PS, F the NRA!
Go NRA!
The NRA had nothing to do with this. Are you really that stupid?
NRA = child killer
This country can do just fine without NRA, without people having guns. Nobody will be harmed when all guns are taken away and destroyed. Yes, some may argue for black market and gun running and all, but that's always going to be the case for any contraband. Is making it accessible the answer to avoid underground gun trade? I think the only thing the gun freedom has to its name is the lives of these children...... you really like to live knowing your freedom to carry is the same freedom costing these children their lives?
The NRA has plenty to do with this.
Cocaine, crack, pot, meth and booze are all illegal for kids to use or possess. Yet they get them, don't they?
Oh boy, a "guns don't kill people, people do" douche bag comes crawling out of the woodwork. The NRA has been on record as opposing background checks, any effort to ban large magazines, or a cooling off period for gun sales. I'd ask you if you were really that stupid but from your post, the answer is self evident.
Strawman noted.
Yus - you are really not too bright. Nobody will be harmed if the guns are all taken away? So people will get knives, or some kind of biological something. Get a grip. This kid had some kind of problem. Somehow he got his hands on a couple of guns and decided to do something about whatever his issues were. It's not about guns - it's about a 24 year old man who lost his mind and wanted to hurt his mom the worst way he could think. Stop with the political nonsense and the ban the gun nonsense. Let's worry about the parents who have lost their little ones..
Just wondering who bev knows that she can call people morons and not get suspended
The shills at nbc are out
You know what Tracy: we have tried it YOUR way. We have allowed the mental midgets in the NRA dictate things far too long.
So let's try it a different way and start to remove guns from the town square, K?
Keep dreaming it's not going to happen
If guns were banned in this country 50% of the population would become criminals overnight as they would refuse to give up their firearms.
Al in Vasila----you are a dolt. The NRA supports citizens who are peaceful, not violent.
By the way----no mention of Ft. Hood.......oooopppsss.....act of terror.
Our hearts go out to the survivors. You are in our prayers.
Steve Sjurset (10.2):
Yes, alan_static (10.1) CAN be that stupid......
Most former military, and most police that I know, believe in the right of responsible law abiding citizens to own certain firearms. Many of my fellow fire arm owners do not believe that all people should be allowed to own fire arms, nor all types of fire arms should be allowed as personal possessions. I think the reason that we cannot come to a meaningful solution is a matter of trust. We do not trust that politicians will stop with what they will try to take away from us, sort of like all of the women who voted for Obama because he ran all of those last minute commercials saying that the Republicans would take away your right to choose. Right to choose what? Right to choose to abort your unborn child, maybe the right to choose to abort your 8 month old fetus. Gun owners are afraid of the slippery slope just like you women. Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, all have indicated they would outlaw all fire arms.
We who have done nothing wrong should not be punished for those that have.
I am also not sure who would come and take our guns, Feisty will it be you? Maybe Barbara from Chicago. I doubt that it will be the US military or the Police will take our guns, I know I will not listen to the President, he chooses not to enforce US laws that he disagrees with, why should I listen to him? We are a divided country, if the 51% who voted for Obama think that they can outlaw guns for the 49% who voted against him, they are dreaming. They should be wondering just how many of their 51% would not have voted for Obama if he was talking about outlawing guns, instead of talking about abortion and extending unemployment benefits, and union rights. They will be crossing over to the side that supports their rights to be responsible gun owners, many of them will be union members who know that what happened today was wrong, but that we did not do this, and should not be punished nor blamed for it. No we would not be criminals if we chose to keep our guns, anymore than thoise that sneak across our borders and stay illegally.
Upstate +1
And yet the topic is gun....why don't you help solve that problem?
I don't care about politics, political parties or any politicians right now. My heart grieves for the families of these innocent children, teachers and administrators. Why are we so up in arms over foreign enemies, body scans at the airport, profiling of young urban males etc etc; when we cannot protect our children at SCHOOL?!!
Everyone in the breakroom here at work who watched the president speak got emotional and could not hold back their tears.
The president said it best.....Our hearts are broken.
Let's not get the president into this discussion. This to him is just another crisis needing a trillion dollars and more rights taken away. For him this is Christmas present dumped right into his socialist lap.
A.H.
Oh Please! !!!!!!! (12.1)
Oh, YES, "Oh Please.) Your name says it all. If BimboBush were still in office, you wouldn't write such a stupid comment. (Also, BUSH was the one who desperately wanted to take our freedoms away. How easily you forget.)
Get back to the subject, please.
Oh Please,
I honestly pity you. You felt the need to politicize this, in the face of a national tragedy. Really - you need to look in a mirror sometime and ask yourself what kind of person you are to feel that you felt it was appropriate to say what you just said.
I sincerely hope you find a little guidance in your life, because with that attitude you must live a dark life.
Oh Please, you are totally right!
A couple yrs ago , 2 incidents took place at around the same time. Pres Obama won the nobel peace prize & a gifted child on his way home from school (right outside of the school) was filmed being beaten to death in Chicago with clubs & kicked & it made natl news . It was a day just like every other day in Chicago . They had been having a bad string of young ppl killing young ppl , mostly gang related with as many as 10 murders a night.
TALK ABOUT RACISM & INDIFFERENCE , WHERE WAS ALL THIS LIBERAL OUTRAGE WHILE HUNDREDS OF INNERCITY YOUTH WERE BEING MURDERED?
Ironically , chicago just passed a new law , imposing a 50$ additional tax on legal gun purchases , supposedly to pay for hospital bills of poor ppl that survive shootings. Isnt that a kick in the teeth , tax payers & insured workers are allready paying for those bills when theirs are padded & taxes are raised . Thank you Rahm Emanuel .The left figures , yes!!! alot of white gun toting ppl cant argue with 20 dead children , now we have a reason to build a case to take the guns from the sheeple, thats why the outrage now , STAGED OUTRAGE TO SUIT THEIR AGENDS!
This is not a republican vs. democrat thing. This is a human thing. This gunman appears to have been a democratic supporter. This gunman and the Aurora, Colorado gunman was even a democratic campaign supporter. If you use the political logic above, then it is just as rational to say that the solution republicans should implement is to not let democrats buy guns. This is not a political party issue.
What have you done about it? Vote? Apparently it takes more than just voting. Contact your representatives in both parties...express your concern...let them know what their priorities should be. Venting anonymously in a blog is not going to get things done.
treyfi - What an idiotic comment to make - "this gunman appears to have been a democratic supporter." There is NOTHING to suggest the lie you are posting! You and the rest of the filth that makes up the far right are responsible for guns sold so easily. You're total gutter trash and YOU are responsible for every single child that died today. Live with it!
You people are idiots. If someone at that school was allowed to carry a gun, this might not have happened. Banning guns will not keep criminals from having them.
SeekingSanity
SeekingSanity,
Isn't that even more proof the people who watch FOX NOISE know less and are absolute brainless LIARS who conjure up issues they don't understand?
Intelligence Institute Study shows Fox News viewers have an IQ that is 20 points lower than the U.S. National average.
Researchers at The Intelligence Institute, a conservative non-profit group, tested 5,000 people using a series of tests that measure everything from cognitive aptitude to common sense and found that people who identified themselves as Fox News viewers and 'conservative' had, on average, significantly lower intelligent quotients. Fox Viewers represented 2,650 members of the test group.

Southern Dawg - what an assinine statement. You're part of the problem!
I apologize. I should have sited my source. I learned of his democratic political affilication from his facebook site. As a side note, it would seem from some of the posts of his friends that several of them shared and encouraged his dark side.
I believe you were missing the point. What I am saying is it does not matter what their political affiliation. I do not care what political party affiliation these shooters are. All of us, democrats, republicans and otherwise need to find a solution. The needs of the many are greater than the needs of the few.
treyfi - again - totally stupid! You did NOT learn of his political affiliation and it makes no difference. YOU are the problem - bringing up him being a Democrat - which he wasn't. YOU brought up political affiliations - no one else! Again - YOU and idiots like YOU are the problem! Read your post then try to lie some more about what you meant!
There is NOTHING on his FACEBOOK page which indicates his political beliefs. Why do liars like you post such trash????
Really? What does his affiliation matter? Thank you for proving my point SeekingSanity? Lashing out with anger (as I see the facebook site is blocked now and only showing one post for some reason). Apparently you missed his November posts.
Exactly the attitude that is splitting our country. The founders of this country did not agree on everything, but they respected each other. I understand your skepticism on factual information on this site. There is quite a bit of jumping to conclusions on here.
Also, you may be surprised to know that I typically vote democrat.
treyfi - No, YOU are the problem. The one who did the shooting HAS NO FACEBOOK PAGE. He has severe mental illness and the FACEBOOK page belongs to his older brother. But, you go ahead and try to place the blame on his politics you stupid moron! The only point I've proved is that your sanity is sorely lacking.
The fact that you TRIED - stupidly - to place the blame on his having Democratic leanings says everything about your lack of integrity; intelligence; character; and anything to do with being a normal person. YOU are the problem and everyone like you! Filth! And, no, you've NEVER voted Democrat in your pathetic excuse for a life!
You're the one who claimed he was a Democrat, treyfi. You're the one who backed that up with a LIE. And then you have the gall to say "Really? What does his affiliation matter?"
By the way, the way FaceBook works, the ONLY one who could block the content is THE SHOOTER (due to PASSWORDS), and he's DEAD. FaceBook could completely take down the page, and if that happened it would NOT show a single post - it would just not return any results. So try again, champ.
This is really sickening - those poor, poor families - God help them.
If this does not make a statement about the need for more regulation on firearms (and I am a multiple owner myself, CPL holder, NRA member x2, etc) - then nothing does. Something has to change.
This country is ours is sick.
Since no one knows where the kid got the guns from, how does this make any kind of statement on regulations on firearms? Maybe they belonged to his mother or his father or his grandparents...stop jumping to conclusions.
the guns were his mothers!
It's simple: Responsible firearms owners are reasonable people. They (we) understand the need for regulations to prevent firearms from falling into the hands of sick individuals, criminals, etc.
In that case, legislation could be passed that dictates responsibility for firearms to be held to the owner - and all firearms (within certain bounds) would have to be registered. When sold - even private sales - some kind of mechanism would have to be executed (in WA we have a voluntary transfer document with both parties on it - but it's voluntary). If stolen, then it's stolen - but there has to be some mechanism which would require firearms to be locked up when at home, and restrictions placed on places you can go with them.
Perhaps you're not aware of it - but in the last six years alone, the NRA has overseen the dismantling of state and municipalities efforts to control where firearms can be taken - including for those of us with Concealed Pistol Licenses (CPL). For instance - we all know cannot take a firearm into an airport or bar - but the cities and states have also tried placing restrictions in certain areas - and the NRA has sued, saying that their second amendment rights have been violated.
This "violation of my Second Amendment rights" argument is total BS. The states and cities have a VALID interest in preventing firearms in particular circumstances. In Seattle, we had some punk who got knocked off his skateboard - so he gets a 9 mm and starts spraying one corner along The Seattle Center down (when Bumbershoot was going on - thousands of people were there). The City of Seattle tried making "public gathering spaces" (such as the Seattle Center) off limits for ALL firearms - and the NRA sued!
The State of Utah tried temporarily banning firearms from state parks in the mountains during the dry, hot summer, because target shooters were starting forest fires - but the NRA sued and said - "no...if they want to shoot in the mountains, it's their Second Amendment Right" regardless of what fires they start!
I am an owner - of multiple weapons - from handguns to long guns to historic guns to a Sig 556 assault rifle - I belonged to the NRA twice in my life (hate their shrill screaming) - hold a CPL and belong to a range. I also belonged to the Washington Arms Collectors (WAC - what an acronym!) for a long, long time - and have been to MANY of their gun shows. I can safely say at this point in my life that I've probably been shooting longer than you've been alive.
So you want to know what disturbs me - a active, CPL-holding owner? I've purchased firearms at that gun show - with their silly little ID badge hanging around my neck - if it's a "private sale" (owner-to-owner - not a gun shop) then THERE IS NO DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED - AT ALL. You hand the owner a pile of cash, he hands you the firearm. I purchased a beautiful 1936 9mm Mauser P08 Luger once - and asked for his business card so I would have an "audit trail" of where it came from - and the seller got all prickly about it. When I started to say forget it - he relented and gave it to me. The stupid little plastic card hanging around my neck is ALL you need. You can even loan it to someone, because NO ONE ASKS FOR ID!
I find it hilarious that THE GOP SAYS WE NEED ID LAWS FOR VOTING - BUT NOT FOR FIREARM PURCHASES! What a sick, sick joke!
"But hey...", you say "...That's a private sale...protecting our Second Amendment rights!"
You know, for a single person-to-person sale - in the absence of all of this - I would say "fine".
But THAT'S NOT WHAT'S HAPPENING - when they do a WAC Show - THOUSANDS of people come together - and firearms change hands with very, very little or NO documentation. That is NOT what that law is about - it's about a single-owner single-owner transactions.
YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN? YOU wing-nut idiots are doing NOTHING but creating a huge backlash against private ownership - and YOU'RE GOING TO RUIN OWNERSHIP FOR EVERYONE. Because of the stupidity of the NRA - and all the stupid lawsuits they've engaged throughout the country - the ONLY way they're going to be able to better control things to REALLY clamp down - then what are you going do, huh?
Of course now - what we'll see is a run on assault rifles and other assorted firearms and ammo. People who are on the margin will arm themselves ("for protection") - and how will THAT help solve this problem?
DON'T CRY TO ME ABOUT YOUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS: Have YOU ever seen someone who's been shot? I have. Now imagine it's a CHILD - YOUR CHILD. Your "RIGHTS" don't give you the "RIGHT" to ruin life in this country for everyone else.
By being so rigid, you people are going to bring on SERIOUS gun control legislation. Then what are you going to do?
This is the most common sense thought out factual post I have seen on here in regards to what we as "law abiding gun owners want when we say regulations need to be in place and enforced nationwide in every state for every place that sells firearms" and what the NRA has done to prevent the laws we have had from being able to be enforced as well as what they've to weaken them or in many cases, PREVENT responsible legislation from being enacted because of how they've managed to use propaganda and the power of money and lobbying to grossly twist their definition of how far "rights" under the 2nd Amendment are actually meant to go which at this point appear to have no end in sight until everyone MUST be armed, including 5 year olds in school now "because that makes us all SAFER".
Go shopping? You had better be armed. Going to school? You had better be armed. Going to a movie? You had better be armed. In a crowd full of people seeing your representative speak at a rally in front of a grocery store? You had ALL better be armed, includding HIM OR HER. In a park or playground with your kids? You had better be armed and your kids too.
There WAS a time in America when people did NOT want to walk around with a gun everwhere they went as this was THEIR right and it used to always be MY choice because as non gun owners we had rights too but I have had to accept the reality that I DO need to defend myself. Not from "crimminals" but from "another kind of terror".
The f-----g extremists who bred this culture to the point and who hate people like me enough to the point I need to defend myself against THEM and WILL at any cost. I carry, know how to the weapon I've resigned to owning and am PREPARED to use it w/o hesitation. Thank you for turning a once trusting, tolerant benefit of the doubt pacifist into someone who "has to look over her shoulder all the time, no longer tolerant and benefit of the doubt NO MORE or trusting". When you've been driven to the point of being shoved and pushed and taken from TOO MANY TIMES and your civil rights are literally being stripped, violated, your livelihood stolen by greed mongers and my children's future and their education bankrupted by the greedy, and all our Constitution stands for and rights we fought so hard for being taken away, having to fight old battles once AGAIN, I CARRY. Enough is ENOUGH. How sad this is. How SAD IT IS.
We really DO need another revolution. The French had THEIRS and the working class of this country need ours before we become serfs to the "corporate state" that owns and controls everything, including our government and bought off so-called justice system where money wins and greed wins. We sure don't.
Don't even know what say... but I'm disgusted ! ... and I am truly hurt for the families -
My goodness, why this is a STELLAR day for the NRA! 30 more innocents dead, most of them babies. 20 more notches for the NRA to put on their logo, which flows with blood! It just doesn't get better than that for those thugs.
Who is at long last going to stand up to those SOB's, and their misreading of the Second Amendment? The word is MILITIA, you morons, not killing innocents.
A well-regulated militia at that. I don't see anything well-regulated about the status quo.
Seek help....
May God bless and hold onto all those impacted by this horrid tragedy. Folks, this is a reminder to hug, hold and love your kids. Also, thank you Mr. President for sharing what I know we all are feeling-the human side.
The National Rifle Association and all its Gun-Nut supporters are accomplices in this terrible, terrible crime.
That is the MOST STUPID thing I have ever read EVER on this MB! I certainly hope you forgot to highlight your quote in blue....
Absolutely! I wonder what kind of a smiley face the NRA will paint on this tragedy?
You honestly think the NRA and its members are happy about this? They support lawful and responsible gun ownership. Not the massacre of children in school. If it matters, I am not in the NRA nor do I own a gun.
Bull@!$%#. If they supported responsible gun ownership, they would support the idea that not everyone should have a gun. They are mental midgets, with one idea only;
Look at the pretty gun, it makes me a MAN because I cannot be a man any other away.
It is time for the membership of that organization to rid themselves of the right wing nut jobs that have infected what used to be a responsible organization.
Surf - what an ugly thing to say - you don't know where this guy got the guns from, yet you want to blame the NRA? For what?? Because they support the right to bear arms? Are you that blind that you don't see that no matter what kind of regulations are made, there will be guns available? Have you ever read the NRA material to actually know what they support and what they don't support? Or are you just talking out your ass??
You too are a complete moron!
The NRA does not need to be happy about these violences happening across the United States before sharing the responsibility for them. They are the ones that promote unfetterd gun ownership in this country. Societies are not governed based on our wish but based on practical realities. Just as most of the citizens are lawful and responsible, there will always be the outlaws andthat is why you have laws against crimes. By extension, just as most people would be lawful and responsible gun owners, there will always be the outlaws that would abuse gun ownership. That is why gun ownership needs to be controlled. To hide behind the constitution as gun proponents have done over the years is laughable. In the first case, the constitution was written over 300 years ago when the guns available are not anywhere near the sophistication of what is available today and the intent of the founding fathers is clearly not what we are seeing today. Secondly, the fact that the Supreme Court rulings on the second amendment have been by narrow margins of 5 - 4 is an indication that the constitution needs to be changed to produce clearer amendments that is more relevant to our present day.
Blame Blame Blame Blame Blame
Absolutely. The rational determine where the blame belongs and goes about fixing the problem. Or didn't you know that?
Ok how do you fix this kind of problem?
banning all guns is never going to happen.
We already have 20k + gun laws on the books
Well, you in the NRA pretend to know all and see all. Why don't YOU come up with a responsible plan to keep guns out of the hands of those that shouldn't have them?
Here's a hint, since I don't think those of you in the NRA have the brain power to light a bulb: if you nationalize laws so someone cannot cross a border to buy a gun, Jaysus, that might be a reasonable start.
I cannot believe that any rational person belongs to or supports the NRA. Shame on YOU!
Lying democrat,
I'm a liberal who is in favor of reason no matter what side of the aisle it comes from. I'm sorry you are so petty as to politicize a tragedy like this. I hope to whatever god or gods that the families don't read these comments, yours included, because it would tear them apart even more.
I pity you, I truly do. You must live a very sad and dark life to feel your comments were appropriate at this time, or must be so far gone that nothing short of commitment would help you.
I wish you the best - get well, lying democrats, get well. Someday when you grow up and/or grow past your hate and disillusion you'll realize how terrible those statements you just made sounded.
Wishing you the best, and this is just one mans opinion only.
If the legitimate gun owner is a member of the NRA, he or she is as responsible for this tragedy as the piece of human debris that pulled that trigger.
If the REASONABLE members of the NRA (and there has to be one or two with an IQ over 70) do not take control from the extremists that run that organization, they may find themselves in some difficulty from the backlash against the organization that is sure to come.
Thugs all.
Need to put a STOP to this period, if certain ppl wont tag along, let them be LEFT OUT in a barn, a woodshed, locked up, till they come to their senses. It has gone way too far!! OUTRAGED!!
The gun violence against children in schools and in the workplace is going to continue or get worse until we finally do something. Ignoring, denying, or excusing the gun problem in this country will just allow the violence to continue.
This has got to be the turning point. This has got to be the last one of these we will tolerate. This has got to be the one that finally the people of this country rise up and demand something be done and drag our politicians kicking and screaming all the way.
We cannot take this one lying down.
We have got to act.
Nothing will be done. The NRA is too strong. They won't be satisfied till every schizo and lunatic in the country is armed to the teeth and everyone is in fear for their own lives and the lives of their children. Gun sales are, right this minute, rising again. Just as they always do... It's just f'ing sad. My heart goes out to the children :'-(
The NRA is not "too strong". Our pols are too weak! If the people of this country rise up and demand change, we can drag them kicking and screaming to wherever we want to go.
I refuse to accept some right wing political organization is stronger than the American people.
Where is this same outrage concerning our economy, raising taxes, increased Government control in our lives, raising inflation etc?
Some sick 20 year old commits a heinous crime, and everyone's ready to storm the Capital. Our Government continues its corruption, and everyone goes on like it's no big deal?
Dave....you comparing the murder of 28 people (most of them kids) to fights over how much govt is too much govt???
Really??
good lord, you right wingers are freaking warped.
Dave, tell me, just tell me, when any of that even remotely compares to the slaughter of 18 children. I dare you.
Dave - your post is so out of place it is pathetic. Do you not have a clue? No, clearly you don't.
This is a tragedy on every level. The act of a madman is going to create a debate over the rights of the rest of us responsible and sane people. Its like having drunk drivers cause the banning of cars. And everyone is pointing at the NRA like it is some foreign nation influencing this country. The NRA is made up of memebers from the United States...the NRA is a voice of the people. The reason the NRA has the influence it does is because a LOT of citizens are memebers.
every year in this country about 20 children die by drowning in five gallon buckets...about equivalent to what unfortunately happened today...yet i dont see anyone yelling a rally call to washington to ban the manufacture and public sale of buckets.....lets all be rational adults here....this is indeed a sad day for america....but the problem is with the people....not the impliments
Correct Sensibility 8) this is a tragedy as a father I find it absolutely horrific what happened to those children.
Amen to that SensibilityPlease
Sensibility....if we had 20 children being killed all at once because of 5 gallon buckets, and repeated over and over across the country, you can bet your ass 5 gallon buckets would either be banned or radically changed in about 5 minutes after the first time.
give me a freaking break....sensibilityplease....how about YOU FIRST.
Rob, you NAILED IT. Cribs where babies get their heads lodged btwn the bars and toys which had parts that "too small and were choking hazards" were pulled off the market as "unsafe" and immediately placed on the consumer reports list as such to the public as required by those same "pesky regulations" the RW love to complain about and we are thankful to have out there just as lead paint was removed but unfortunately has made a comeback in the boatload of cheap toys "Made in China" so we have to be on on our guard again so our kids are not poisoned by this crap.
Of course because of the lovely regulations getting loosened on those "precious corporations" that are making these pieces of garbage sold in Walmart by employees who have to apply for foodstamps so the multibillionaire Walton brats can get their endless tax deductions, capital gains, tax CUTS and dividends while the RW bitches about "entitlements bankrupting the country" so lets start with a 40 billion hatchet job to MEDICAID when how about we start paying people an EFFING living wage as the Walton family sure can SPARE it when they're raking in 20 BILLION a year and getting a nice rtn from Uncle Sam on top of it, we would not need to be importing toys with lead in them made by slave labour in China which we're all going to be pretty soon...Yeah I think common sense gun regulation can not only be done but ENFORCED. GET ON IT NOW!!!
Please, please, please, for the love of the Gods, don't politicize this.
Not right now. 18 innocent children have been murdered. Nine others as well.
Just stop.
Please.
I'll bet you Obama's going to politize this.
alan_static, your an idiot.
It was "not right now" in January when a man took political rhetoric just a little too far and shot a congresswoman in the face.
It was "not right now" in July when someone decided to act like a comic book supervillain and shoot up a crowded movie theater.
It was "not right now" in October when someone decided he wanted to fire the first shots of the "impending racial holy war" and shot up a Sikh temple.
Now it's "not right now" again after a family argument escalated into twenty dead schoolchildren!
When will it not be "not right now"?
Alan.... What an ignorant post. I'm sure if your child were affected by this you wouldn't be posting such garbage.
@alan_static
Troll much, douchebag? I get it, you don't like Obama, you love the NRA, super; but couldn't you at least show enough respect not to post a politicized comment to someone asking not to politicize this? You should be ashamed.
Are you KIDDING ME? Don't politicize this? What in the name of the wee man is wrong with you. Children DIED. Someone had damn well better politicize this in big hurry.
Time to stand up to the thugs in the NRA/
Hmm newday there are over 80 million legal gun owners in the US.
Was Obama fake crying?
So, what's your point Big Al? 80 million of you have to prove that you are MEN somehow?
Really newday?
That's the best you can come up with 8( lot's of ladies are gun owners.
You just hate
You bet your bottom dollar little Al: I detest the NRA with every fiber of my being. They and you, if you are a member, are responsible for the murder of too many people to think on.
What a dunbass thing to say but hey no liberal lets an opportunity pass to blame the repubs for everything. What does politics have to do with an evil idiot doing this?
I've heard it said over and over and over again; "guns don't kill people, people kill people." But the rest of the statement is never uttered "...with guns." People kill people by using guns." Yes people can kill people with knives, swords, bombs, poison, knitting needles, scissors and a hundred other ways and means. But one person can not kill 27 people with a knife!
Isn't it about time we start saying "people kill people by using guns?" And by demanding that every person who gets their hands on a gun does it only through legit stores, where a real back ground check, psyhe eval and every other test we can think of to make sure they are stable, responsible, and trustworthy is given and passed first?
When are we going to say enough is enough?
Nightcloud - That is the most sensible thing I've read all day. Kudos on a well thought out post!
Nightcloud. You never went through a war, did you ? Many can be killed and at one time, with a knife. I may be a old, old gizzer in your eyes, but a knive is a fine weapon and quiet also.
they do check back grounds, but then there are gun runners, and obama that will hand over guns to anyone that will kill americans, and what is being done about that?
The political anger is needful and useful; but, How about some righteous indignation against a culture of man centered selfishness. Yes, we must address what the diabolical maniac had in his hands...but what did he have in his head. What spawned this outrageous act of violence against beautiful innocent children. What was he entertained by? What will we find on the hard drive of his computer? What did he think/meditate/brood about?
The mind set on garbage results in death...
Are you a man or a boy?
alan, you must be a girl coz you smell like puzzy
Yup, because little children only get harmed with guns, not knives or any other weapons. Oh wait, I believe this was just from 11-hrs. ago: "A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on children in the country. Taking away the guns will do nothing. An unstable person will always find a way to cause harm.
And all 22 Chinese schoolchildren survived.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you static Alan....I have been at school picking up my grandchildren.
Not sure I caught the meaning/intent of your man/boy interrogative so I won't employ my full on assault tactics I learned from a career in the Marine Corps. Let's just ask/answer the multiple choice question:
What do "Real Men" do?: A/ Hide in the dark basement of their mamas home and watch porno B/Assault innocent children with military weapons C/Respond to a 911 call to protect and defend innocent children D/Shelter children from a lunatic assailant with their own bodies.
Just asking the question static alan.
This isnt about gun control. Bad guys will get guns one way or another.
I am not going to politicize this tragedy. None of us should.
We've raised a generation of children who have had the woman around them celebrate the fact that they can destroy their children at any time before birth. What do we expect when adults devalue life, so to will our children. My condolences to those parents and surviving siblings. What a tragedy!!
How should anyone expect to take you seriously if you start by commenting about abortions, then talk about devaluing life, and only at the end do you mention the fact that this is a tragedy? you've just made your own condolences hollow and meaningless.
What? U are a complete dingbat. Its folks like you with your moral high horse that scare me. U dont have a gun do u?
Sooooo...uh, you're saying this happened because abortion is legal? The fact that a child is born is proof enough that the woman in the childs life did not destroy them. You're just talking out your ass aren't you? Yes, you are.
Oh goody, an anti abortion zealot to equate abortion with the murder of real children.
Get help for that. I am convinced that anti choice zealots are mentally ill.
A Mom you are certainly correct here. If everyone else would get on the moral high horse then this thing could have been prevented instead of the every is fine, fags marrying fags, etc warped way of thinking this nation has become.
Hey, James-4436154
U R absolutely right. She is no 'A MOM'; she is 'F MOM,' Failed MOM, trying to politicize this tragedy with ... failure to show compassion
We need gun control, period! I agree that mental health issues contribute to violence, but the key is gun control. Teens and young adults don't have the life experience to draw on to help them put whatever the "crisis of the day" is in perspective. They don't have to be mentally ill to have a "knee jerk" reaction to a problem. The saying "suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" can be applied to so many of todays sad stories. Having a gun in your house just gives the people in your home (and their friends) a handy weapon to use when they are upset about something. I am sure that for every one time someone was able to "protect their family" with a gun, one hundred people have had their family destroyed because there was a gun in their home (probably closer to a thousand).
We need to stand up to the NRA and say ENOUGH!!! Enough lives lost, enough children killed, enough grief and sadness.
If you agree- sign the petition. Forward the link. Maybe enough raised voices can drown out the NRA dollars that fuel the gun lobby.
#sign
I can't stand stupidity even in such a horrible event as today's. Do you think that this kid got his guns from a legal gun dealer?? You can buy guns on a street corner just as easy as the evening newspaper. Outlawing guns will ony increase illegal gun trafficing and thn only the crimminals will have weapons. Unblievable!!! Wake up or grow up! Outlawing guns is a waste of time if your goal is to try to stop events such as these!! People living in these whitebread neighborhoods are so naive and just don't get it.
over 20 thousand gun laws already on the books I guess we need a few more..
Gun Laws is something we have here in California. It's strict we have over 8 million gun owners in California alone who registered & did things legally. 2nd highest in the nation.
The gun lobby is just not the NRA it's all of the firearms organizations and that is roughly over 80 million gun owners 8)
This is a tragedy but blaming the NRA is lame and gun owners since we have families and loved ones we also mourn for this horrible tragedy.
You have to be seriously @!$%#ed in the head to kill children.
I value all life from the unborn to the elderly and all animals. I hate hypocrisy from people who say they hate violence and yet sit and watch violent TV to video games and support the right to destroy the most innocence of life period! So for you who claim I have no compassion perhaps you need to look at yourself in the mirror. To destroy life is abhorrent, but you would not understand since you cannot have sympathy with the most weak amoung us. Tell me what is crazy to destroy a life or to save a life, and yet you call me crazy.
And True Fact your language regarding homosexuals is abhorrent. God love everyone and each of us hold tremendous value in Gods eyes.
Forget praying there is no "God"...wake up !
A "Mom" do you give a crap so much about all those kids once they're out of the womb or were one of those a-holes praying to make sure 45 million people in this country, including CHILDREN would still never get access to affordable HEALTHCARE because that is "immoral" and against your so-called "proi-life beliefs but it's also perfectly OK for every corporation, including the friggin fossil fuel industry to have the unfettered ability to pollute our environment w/o impunity and poison our food because the EPA, FDA are "job killinf out of control agencies according the BS RW propoganda I am postive you eat up? You insist that every uterus in the country is policed and women should not have get affordable common sense prevention to pregnancy, including birth control or basic reproductive healthcare and are all for defunding every program out there for them, especially low income woman, even the working POOR who have no health insurance and want to remove all sex education from our schools because it is "immoral and promotes promiscuity" because of YOUR blody religious bias that has NO place in our public education system anyway but still it is SHOVED down our throats everytime I turn around and legislated in our curriculums against our will with our tax money as my public schools are being bankrupted-1.6 BILLION taken from WIs public schools and universities alone by idiot Walker and they want to take MORE yet as he is funnelling tax money to PRIVATE and charter schools but stripped all forms of sex education from public schools after we DID have it for a whole TWO years. He and his dumb teahads took contraception coveraqe out of ALL insurance plans in this state when it was covered before here.-( I used to work for 2 health insurers in WI and in healthcare billing and it was covered as well as abortion services in fully insured comemrical polices), unless the plan was self-funded and the employer chose not to cover it but these were covered until WALKER'S mental midgets made it a point to state mandate them OUT altogether so not even contraception is cvered anymore regardless of WHERE/WHO you work for...Medicaid never covered abortion because of the Hyde Amendment and I was a government biller....Yeah you pro-lifers sure want to make women's lives pure misery as FORCE birth on females regardless of their situation and that includes young girls...How proud are you that fascist teahads voted DOWN the VAWA simply because Native Americans were to be included but Eric Cantor blamed them not passing it on the Democrats-typical. You're a misogynist hypocritical PIG who only cares one thing. Keeping all of us and our daughters dumb, ignorant submissive bible thumping brood mares with no thought as to how we are supposed to care for all the children YOU insist be BORN and will legislate be born no matter what even if it is by rape or incest or any other way possible you insensitive selfish puritanical fascist. It's because of extremist nuts like YOU I carry and know how to use A GUN!!!! Stay out of our lives and leave us ALONE already and keep your religion out of our lives and our GOVERNMENT!!! This is NOT Afghanistan or IRAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why isn't anyone talking about the violence that children are voluntarily subjected to everyday that their parents totally agree with or allow. They "kill" for fun , very violent fun, in their video games. They watch people being murdered, blown away, blood flying, in movies and on television. Their heros are violent killers. Oh but its just a game, its just a movie....?? Is that how you justify it? I am a teacher, when any new movie or game comes out, the children in my classroom act just like the characters in those movies or games. They role play. I see it all the time. Know what?? If a child is not stable, if their parents don't talk to them about what is wrong with all the violence they play with, they want to live it out in real life.....so they find a gun, or a knife, or an ax, or anything they feel powerful using.... Don't you see....
Call for violence control, no, scream for violence control in our homes, on our televisions. And don't tell me it's freedom of choice...when I told my children it wasn't right...they went next door and were subjected to it at another house. We need to quit using violence as entertainment and quit glorifying it.
