We will raise the taxes on the 2% or we will go over the cliff and talk about lowering taxes on the 98% first thing in the new year. As for entitlements, I am all for taking IOWARETIREE's play money away. Social Security was meant as a safety net for the poor. I would be all for means testing before distributing SS dollars. For those wealthy "few" who complain that they paid in as well all those years, I would respond 1) the government left an IOU slip in the fund after taking all your cash and 2) you need to think of SS as term life insurance... you pay in and hope you don't need to cash out. Again... means testing!!

The only time these "Do Nothings" "Do Something" is when there is something in it for them!

I'm not interested in cuts to SS & Medicare after paying in for a lifetime of work. I demand what is promised. I will not accept such cuts until every last dime of corporate welfare & foreign aid are eliminated. I will also not accept cuts until the military, other forms of welfare and government health care & pensions are cut to the bone. Only then will I agree to these cuts if its absolutely necessary. Stop trying to screw the American people.

There is no way to please the democrats an the Obamanation resgime. They have always wanted to bring down the United States economy. They would not care if the United States fails all together.........

The trouble is they cap out at $113,000 not enough to support SS. we need to raise that to at least $250,000. Don't touch SS. I repeat don't touch SS. It has nothing to do with the deficit. It is payed for by payroll taxes. Bush just loved to borrow from it.

social security is not even part of the budget- it is a trust. Raise the limit that is taxed on ss(106k) and you have secured the trust for another 75 years.

The problem with medicare is the fact the rate of inflation has been over 10% for decades. Doctors are not overpaid(last I saw average pay is 150K), nurses arent either. Dont believe hospitals are noted for being highly profitable business'.

What are- pharma, insurance companies, companies that build medical equipment. Obamacare is a first step designed to slow the rate of growth. Why extend the age(which transfers the burden from the govt to the individual)?

The Democrats don't want entitlement cuts. If the GOP wants to cut entitlements, they should man-up and say what they want to cut and be willing to take the heat for it from the public if they don't agree.

New legislation that jumps the death tax to 55 percent of estates exceeding $1 million threatens 526,421 family farms, of about 25 percent of all farms in America, according to a Senate analysis.

According to the analysis from the Senate Republican Policy Committee, chaired by Wyoming's John Barrasso:

If President Obama and Senate Democrats do not act, the federal government will begin taking more than half the value of family farm estates exceeding $1 million beginning next year. This summer, Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Democrats passed legislation (S.3412) on a party-line vote that allows Washington to take up to 55 percent, a huge increase over today's top rate of 35 percent, and drop the tax's exemption from $5.1 million to $1 million. The lower exemption -- combined with soaring farm real estate values -- could put more than 420,000 additional farm estates at risk from the death tax.

Farm values are largely tied up in non-liquid assets like land, buildings, and livestock. Many farm and ranch families would be forced to sell their assets to satisfy Washington Democrats' insatiable appetite for tax money. Up to 24 percent of America's farm and ranch families could be forced to hand over a large chunk of their heritage to the Internal Revenue Service when a family member dies. This would economically devastate rural communities. The President and Senate Democrats should join Republicans in rejecting this irresponsible policy.

As a working person, through my payroll deductions since age 16, I pay into Social Security and Medicare. So how is this an entitlement? To me, it's 'earned' benefits.

I haven't always been a fan of Barack Obama, but I'm glad to see that he is standing his grounds. The adminstration offered solution for increase renevues as well as reforms in 'entitlement'. The GOP wants spending cuts, but yet ask the other sides what they want to cut rather than propose their own cuts (besides unspecific loopholes) - am I the only one who sees a disconnect here? BTW, the new counter-offer still lacks specific. Source - CNN, Rueters, ABC, CBS and the cartoon network aka Fox News.

If the GOP or Boehner can get his act together, we should just let the current tax cuts expires. If that happens, the GOP better call up Dick Cheney very fast and tell him his investment (from being a CEO of defense corp previously) will be losing alot of value!!!
