VIDEO: The Week Ahead: Death and taxes

Fiscal cliff negotiations continue, Obama heads to Michigan, will President Obama make his nomination for secretary of state, and Andy proves once again that the only thing certain in life are death, taxes, and Mayan calendars?

Hey, blackcatwhitecat who says -

Think I'll skip the week ahead in that case.

Sorry to remind you - bcwc - that - You plan means that you are having both 'death and taxes' -

1. Buying large martini, you pay sales taxes; for bartender, you pay taxes for his/her services.

2. Buying large martini...you are slowly killing yourself!!

.

Sorry for telling you the truth

Pigotry -

1. If BCWC is having that martini at the Dew Drop Inn, he pays no taxes. We ran them dang revenooers off years ago (I think one was named NoJoe).

2. We serve our martinis shaken, not stirred, a la James Bond; thus anyone who imbibes becomes virtually indestructible. (hey, if Bond could survive George Lazenby, he can survive anything!)

Amy I found an avatar no one should be confused over; President Obama and Santa Claus. Although I may change it because the more I lok at it; the more it loks like no one will know it's our President.

Have a nice weekend

Dang is it Friday already? Don’t time fly when you’re having fun?
Looks like we’ve got the politics pretty well covered this week and I see that nobodies come to any permanent harm. Hope everybody takes the week end and rubs the bruises and scrapes a little and shows up bright and early Monday morning for another go round. Looks like it’s going to be an interesting week.
Just as sure as the Man Upstairs makes little Green Apples in the Spring Christmas is coming. I don’t give a rat’s patooty if you’re Democrat, Republican, Tea Party, Green Party or some semblance thereof. Don’t care if your Baptist, Atheist, Hindu or practice Confususism. Don’t really care if you say Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas. It’s beside the point.
Tis the Season for thinking of your fellow man and especially children.
From what I can see some of us are doing better than we have been. That does not Negate the fact that our Charitable Organizations are still facing unprecedented need for those that aren’t. The only thing we can do is do what good folks do and that is step up and do our best. Folks you can’t Legislate it and you can’t Filibuster it and you can’t Veto it. The only thing you can do is Do It the best way you know how. We can argue about who did what and why come January. Let’s just do what we need to do now.
As always my thanks and appreciation to our hosts for their time, giving me a little place to stand, a subject to comment on, a forum to put it in, and their indulgence when I don’t quite get it right or get a little off subject. I purely do appreciate it. Hope you’ll have a fine weekend and good fun among folks that you know and love. To my fellow participants keep well, keep safe, and keep the faith. We’ll make it. See you’ll next week
Tunemiesters how about hitting B-16 which would be Old Bing warbling “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and Barkeep set up a round for the house and let’s get this place to rocking so that you don’t have to make an excuse for Ol’ He Ain’t Here.

Mark one of the prettiest Christmas's I've have had was in Austria. The folks lite actual candles on the tree for about an hour each evening and at midnight Christmas Eve in the village the Brass was set up in the Church Steeple to play Joy To the World which rang out clear and sweet all over the Valley. And it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

    Uncle Redneck -

Here's your request for der Bingle, with an extra log on the fire at the DDI to go with it:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5XDm7P7nU0

And since our friend Drive-by hasn't been around to mind the old quarter machine lately, I was dusting off the Christmas collection recently and there was this horrible accident, and I'm sorry to report (well, not really) that the following selections are no longer available: Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad". "George Michael's "Last Christmas". Elmo and Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer". Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You". And whoever it is that did "Dominic the Donkey" and "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas". Anyone requesting these titles will just have to sit out in their car, where I'm sure they can find a station playing any one of them at any hour of the day.

Christmas in either Austria or Switzerland sounds lovely, but as long as you're with Miss Elly and Mark is with Mrs. SoCal, that's what really matters.

    Cheers, everyone!

      Reply#12 - Fri Dec 7, 2012 5:53 PM EST

The cliff is looming, because the Republican legislators are drones for the Koch Brother money that insures their re-elections. The Koch Brothers don't like mining regulations that protect a worker's safety, as shown by their failure to address the hundreds of safety failures, including installing mine ventilation fans ass-backwards!

The Koch Brothers make their money in coal mines and oil, and their daddy's patent on refining oil has made the Koch brothers billionaires. Instead of using that wealth to lift up Americans, it fights work safety legislation and attacks worker's rights. They spend 100's of millions of dollars a year to convince us to vote for the lackeys in the GOP! THe Koch Brothers have made the GOP their little slaves, dependent upon them for their candy!

The Koch brothers refuse to build new clean refineries for our petroleum products, because they can control the amount of gasoline in the market, keeping the prices high, while President Obama has more wells pumping in America than ever before. Why Republicans blame the President for high gas prices, when it is the Koch Brothers, with their fingers on the scales, is baffling!

Now, the financial cliff awaits America, because the Koch Boys want it that way. They seem to believe holding the nation hostage by the Tea Party House of Representatives is the only way to protect their wealth. The Koch Brothers would rather see the American economy take another credit hit, than to lose 4% of their billions in profits each year! Talk about greed! These boys set a new standard!

Losing a few million dollars is more important to the billionaire Koch Brothers than to help the nation that their daddy paid much higher tax rates in. Before Reagan, the taxes on the rich were as high as 90%, and their daddy was making oodles, while our Middle Class was growing and our government was buidling Interstates, and Dams, and Airports, and SeaPorts, and creating National Parklands, and protecting our forests and wildlife from polluters! Now, with the taxrates below 35% per cent, and with the tax havens that allow Romney, and his boys to pay less than 14% in taxes, the United States needs revenue, in the form of taxes to return us to those glory days, where we made stuff in America, not in Slave labor China!

President Obama would like to bring back those jobs from Communist China, while the GOP just voted against the bill that rewards the Romneys for shipping manufacturing jobs and American factories to China!

If there are communist sympathisers in our midst, it is certainly the Koch Brothers, and the GOP, who kneel at their altars of bigotry, hate, and greed, and their endorsement of slave labor, and low compensation for the masses in exchange for wealth and the wealthy men in their chateaus, who rarely visit them, but show off as trophies, while Americans beg on the on-ramps of our highways, living under bridges, after serving our country in fighting our wars, and getting little for their patriotism!

      Kannin

You have been bleating for four years that all of Obama's failures are due to lack of cooperation by the Republicans. Nevertheless, you still voted for him knowing full well that he would never be capable of creating consensus among the various political factions within our government.

Dysfunctional government is what you voted for. Dysfunctional government is what you got. And if you don't like it, you have only yourself to blame.

Exactly correct, Kannin however the following helps explain a bit----------4ward

      SoFLConsultant

A new word has been created since Barry was re-elected

      Ineptocracy

DEFINITION: (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Very good definition, great new word. however low info. voters won't be able to spell it correctly & they will probably think it is a new Obama phone app.

      I suppose we should just,

      "Get used too it"

After sequester and cuts to defense, and A raise in the debt limit, + possible down grade in our credit rating. Eminently, resulting in lost faith in the Us gov't bonds held by the various creditors/countries "China" in particular.

        Here is the question.

What should we do when one morning, we awaken to 60+ Chinese aircraft carriers and support craft surrounding our country, and a delegation of oriental Ambassador's in Washington DC with a message from Beijing to transport All Of Our precious metals/gold from Ft.Knox to the port of New Orleans for shipment to China??? Shall we just nuke them? lol How many nuclear submarines do they have, built with American steel??? "Just Askin"

More conspiracy theories from low information people

China holds less than 10% of our 16 trillion dollar National debt. Our unions hold more of the US debt than China.
The very same thing was being said about Japan during the 90's.
China's Military is much smaller than ours and they spend $1 on their military for every $5 the US spends on our Military.

China's economy depends largely upon America's ability to buy their products. It is American consumerism that drives much of the world economy. This suggests that the pendulum of wealth distribution in the US needs to swing back towards the 98%.

If you want to worry about something, try an internal collapse of China's economy if it fails to keep growing at a minimum 5%. The resulting chaos may cause your next trip to WalMart to be fruitless as the doors will be boarded up due to empty shelves.

[...we awaken to 60+ Chinese aircraft carriers and support craft surrounding our country...]

Uhm, China only has ONE aircraft carrier, and it's not in service yet.

The general coastline of the United States consists of over 12,000 statute miles, and if you think that "60+" ships is somehow going to scare our government into giving up "All Of Our precious metals/gold", you really don't have a clue, do you? Over 5,000 vessels were used in the Battle of Normandy alone, and if you believe, for one second, that our military doesn't know when even ONE Chinese military ship leaves port, you are naive at best. China is going to need a hell of a lot more than "60+" ships, nuclear or not.

Oh, and here's a little peek into the Chinese Navy:

            http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/25/world/asia/china-aircraft-carrier-landing/index.html
