VIDEO: Week that Was: Averting the cliff?

As NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss, the big story this week remained the negotiations to prevent the fiscal cliff, and there are signs of potential compromise. Also, South Carolina Republican Jim DeMint announced his resignation from the Senate to run the Heritage Foundation.

Edited by NBC's Matt Loffman.

Just think, If Romney had won, the House would probably be repealling the 13th amendment about now. After all, the 1% don't like paying soldiers, teachers, postal workers and doctors for old people. Why should they pay anyone a salary when slavery is such an economical way to run a plantation, er, company?

I think your right, they sure are hell bent on screwing up medicare, Social Security and medicaid. It would seem to me a return to slavery is what Walmart people work for. Things are rosy up on Walton's mountain but in the valley people are hurting and we the real tax payers are supplementing their income with food stamps and aid. Republicans should be ashamed to show up in congress.

Amy are you retarded? I just dont understand these days where people are so jealous of the successful in our country that they would take from them and destroy their success? Who do you think you're employed by... a poor person? With Obama's kind of spending, people do not understand that once he is done taxing the rich up the butt, and runs out of money, he is going to come for the middle class and so on and so on...

Martin, I think most conservatives as well as progressives admire creative entrepreneurs who profit from ingenuity, industriousness and add something worthwhile to the human experience. For me, excellent examples are Henry Ford, in spite of his problems with labor, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Eli Whitney and a host of others.

Speaking for myself, I have a serious problem with wealthy people who did little more than be fortunate enough to be born into wealth, who prey on others, or believe that their success is all attributable to their own doing. No one succeeds alone.

This Cliffmaster has come down with a serious case of Cliffphobia. I do believe that the remedy is a tire-iron to the back of the head.

"Bonehead Boehner" and his "Teabegger Buddies." Have planned to send the US Economy over the 'fiscal cliff' since their "Caucus Conspiracy" of Janruary 20, 2009. Get informed America. Read Draper's Book. It is not fiction. It is fact that the Teabeggers want to 'cover up.' The Teabeggers have done everything possible to 'obstruct' the President. The GOP/Teabegger's "Hoodlum's On The Hill" have passed the "Richie Rich Ryan" Economic Plan twice. What does that tell you America?

You have been bleating for four years that all of Obama's failures are due to lack of cooperation by the Republicans. Nevertheless, you still voted for him knowing full well that he would never be capable of creating consensus among the various political factions within our government.

Dysfunctional government is what you voted for. Dysfunctional government is what you got. And if you don't like it, you have only yourself to blame.

Chop Suey Louie. Your saying it's our (Democrats) fault that that we created a disfunctional Government? You, and your ilk are the ones who voted in your favorite NO people so as to try and shut down our Country. Have you no Shame? And now you say that it's OUR fault that the MAJORITY of this Country voted for our President. Not once, but twice. Your the "little kid" who doesn't get his way, stomps his feet and cries. Grow up.

So very true leroy brown! Why are the GOP/Teabeggers so 'backwards?' The answer to this question is found in the book by Robert Draper. It is entitled. "Do Not Ask What Good We Do." It is a must read leroy brown, and it will make what is happening right now very clear. The "Caucus Conspiracy" by the GOP/Teabeggers was very 'treasonous,' and UnAmerican. The depths of the GOP/Teabegger "Blood Oath" is very alarming to read. The Progressive Power Think Tanks have known about the GOP/Teabegger "Conspiracy" since 2009. Now the Teabeggers do not want their 'conspiracy' to get out. That is fact!

The House is still Republican. The Senate is still Democrat. The President is still Incompetent.

Why would anyone expect the next four years to be any different from the last four?

The “fiscal cliff” was born from Obama's blunders, starting with his trillion-dollar “stimulus” bailout of his corporate friends who he arbitrarily decided were “too big to fail.” Now he is still demonstrating his incompetence by blaming others for his failures.

A new word has been created since Barry was re-elected

      Ineptocracy

DEFINITION: (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Very good definition, great new word. however low info. voters won't be able to spell it correctly & they will probably think it is a new Obama phone app.

      I suppose we should just,

So libbies, one question ? with a premise of course.

After sequester and cuts to defense, and A raise in the debt limit, + possible down grade in our credit rating. Eminently, resulting in lost faith in the Us gov't bonds held by the various creditors/countries "China" in particular.

        Here is the question.

What should we do when one morning, we awaken to 60+ Chinese aircraft carriers and support craft surrounding our country, and a delegation of oriental Ambassador's in Washington DC with a message from Beijing to transport All Of Our precious metals/gold from Ft.Knox to the port of New Orleans for shipment to China??? Shall we just nuke them? lol How many nuclear submarines do they have, built with American steel??? "Just Askin"

Odd how so many people apparently are confused about the debt limit. There would be no reason to raise the debt limit if Congress had not added to our debt. In effect, the debt limit is increased to make good the checks the Federal government has already issued. To not increase the debt limit would be saying to all that the payments that have already been made, the checks are bad and are going to bounce. Thus, the panic when Congress refused, for a while anyway, to raise the debt limit in 2011.

Some still seem to believe that raising the debt limit allows Congress to spend more, when in fact, raising the debt limit assures creditors that the checks that have already been issued will clear.

Naturally it would be wise to stop spending money we don't have, but until reason prevails it would be nice to pay our bills.
