Obama inauguration will take unlimited corporate funds

President Barack Obama will accept unlimited corporate contributions to help finance his 2013 inauguration, a shift from 2009, when corporate funding was barred and per-person donations were capped at $50,000.

The president's inaugural committee made the decision, which was first reported by Politico, because, they said, contributions from individuals alone would not raise enough to cover the price tag of all the events.

"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history," Addie Whisenant, spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said in a statement.

The inaugural committee in 2008 said that its ban on corporate funding, among other initiatives, would help "underscore their commitment to change business as usual in Washington."

Lobbyists and political action committees are still barred from donating, and there will be no sponsorship agreements. All corporate contributions will be vetted and the committee will not accept any from companies who accepted TARP funds and haven't paid them back yet.

The inaugural committee also notes that these are the same guidelines to which civic organizations like arts museums and the American Red Cross adhere.

    Kannin

You have been bleating for four years that all of Obama's failures are due to lack of cooperation by the Republicans. Nevertheless, you still voted for him knowing full well that he would never be capable of creating consensus among the various political factions within our government.

Dysfunctional government is what you voted for. Dysfunctional government is what you got. And if you don't like it, you have only yourself to blame.

Exactly correct, Kannin however the following helps explain a bit----------4ward

    SoFLConsultant

A new word has been created since Barry was re-elected

    Ineptocracy

DEFINITION: (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Very good definition, great new word. however low info. voters won't be able to spell it correctly & they will probably think it is a new Obama phone app.

    I suppose we should just,

    "Get used too it"

There's that old Con fantasy "Obama Phone" again a Republican bill from the 90's. No surprise though, just about every single thing that pisses them off is a Republican bill of some sort or another from past buying vote sprees.

So libbies, one question ? with a premise of course.

After sequester and cuts to defense, and A raise in the debt limit, + possible down grade in our credit rating. Eminently, resulting in lost faith in the Us gov't bonds held by the various creditors/countries "China" in particular.

          Here is the question.

What should we do when one morning, we awaken to 60+ Chinese aircraft carriers and support craft surrounding our country, and a delegation of oriental Ambassador's in Washington DC with a message from Beijing to transport All Of Our precious metals/gold from Ft.Knox to the port of New Orleans for shipment to China??? Shall we just nuke them? lol How many nuclear submarines do they have, built with American steel??? "Just Askin"

If the Democrats and Republicans keep selling the country short why do we keep voting for Democrats and Republicans? That's why I voted for independents, Democrat and Republican two sides of the same hand sold out. People say I wasted my vote but at least I voted my heart and didn't put either sell out in office. We have the internet the third party can take it's cause to the internet, if Americans have become too stupid or corrupt to give us anything better then what we have then I guess we deserve what we have. I am retired and living quite comfortably, I don't have a problem with paying more taxes. I just hate seeing people today not having the same opportunities that I had. I was working and made my money and investments when America was the land of opportunity.

You are right in your ideology, but a third party won't work, given the entrenched power in place today. We have to use the existing system to change. A third party feels good. Everyone agrees with each other. Working within the Democratic party is much harder, but it is politics. We have shown we can change things with people-power, although apparently not as much as we thought.

Can we expect conservative-sponsored legislation banning presidents from visiting Hawaii because it costs too much? I'm sure the state will be thrilled to learn they have been marginalized. Maybe we should have considered the costs when we annexed Hawaii and Alaska with the potential that a president might want to visit them at some future time. On the other hand, if Romney had won and planned the same trip, you would likely be crowing about what a true bargain the costs are. I admire your transparency ~ meaning that people can see right through you, Long Term. BTW, thinking is not your 'long suit."

Not Bush, but "Bush's brain", Carl Rove. He reinvented politics to be even dirtier than before, and continues despite exposure. But you are right, this is on Obama, and he should be ashamed. I hope progressives like me boycott the inauguration.

Its in Karl Rove's DNA to play dirty. After all, he was an understudy and protege' of Donald Segretti who headed the Nixon 'Dirty Tricks' activities. We ultimately are creatures of our environment and Rove was rather successful until 24/7 mass information outlets like the internet wrested media control away from him. As a result, we now have thousands of amateur self-appointed Rovians on both sides of the political spectrum. Perhaps that's the way it should be ~ for damned certain, its entertaining.

Republicans have warped minds. They are completely incapable of rational thoughts. Just read every Republican Wingnut post here on the NBC comments sections for proof. They're out there man...WAY OUT! And, they're ON THEIR WAY OUT TOO!!!!! Thank God!!!!! THE MAJORITY HAS SPOKEN. The Republican Party will NEVER recover from their bad actions, bad behavior, and overall negativity towards our country as a whole...NEVER! And that's a good thing for the USA. I thought Republicans loved corporations...until they donate for President Obamas inauguration that is...THE SECOND ONE!

If the liberals were so rational, they wouldn't be the biggest culprits of ranting irrational comments about the republicans and everyone else that doesn't have the same warped mentality as them. It is the liberals that are the ones still complaining about Bush and that administration while Obama is taking America for a ride down the path of socialism and Communism. Liberals aren't as smart as they think they are, showing the total lack of common sense and irrational delusional mentality. Despite thinking you are higher educated your common sense does not show. Obama won and America LOST!

What if progressives actively boycotted the inauguration? Not to undermine the president, but to continue our actively resisting corporate influence. Right now, Obama is obviously feeling pretty powerful, and not needing the image that elected him. Perhaps Obama would get the message that he needs to, early in this second term. ...... It seems the man is changing. No surprise, this is what power does. It is insulting to many of us who supported him because he was going to change "business as usual", then gave insurance companies and bankers (much of) what they wanted. This decision is consistent with politics. We can only hope that Obama carries some of his ideology into his second term.

Obama has not done ANYTHING to earn RESPECT from anyone. He does not show respect to any of his staff as he has no character or good morals. He is far from being a Leader as he has led our country to a dead end. He is now asking for money as this is his problem of having NO experience in business, finance or banking. He does not listen to people giving him advice as he rejects them. He only listens to the advisers that are yes people and confirm Obama's ill logic. The proof is in the way America is heading. Obama has NO business in the position he is in. Only those that are reaping free entitlements and are lost sheep support this current day Jim Jones. America has just begun to feel the wrath of this government. The democrats have actually won nothing and America has lost everything!

Rome fell because, just like us, (the new Rome or new Harlot), they spread their troops around the known world. They where an occupying force, just like us. They where hated, for pushing their ideas on foreign government. Bloody battles in the Colosseum. Rampant debauchery. Leaders who filled their toga pouches with unfair taxes. Our television shows come into our homes just like we are sitting in the Colosseum. We watch shows about evil, sex and psychics and ghost hunters and every thing violent.. Things that keep the masses occupied. Created by Hollywood, who help spread the decadence around the world. This year, I think, it was 12 States who wanted to leave the union. I never remember so many states wanting to leave because they are fed up with the federal government. They took away states rights and soon the Constitution. The U.N. will have full control of us. The one world government. We have fallen so far away from what the founding fathers had in mind, when they created this nation, we are going the way of Rome. And no one will miss us. The right to bear arms was put in the constitution because if the government was not acting in the best manner for the people then force could be used to get back to what the founding fathers had in mind. Today, it is impossible to get rid of this government. They are too strong and any sign of an uprising will be put down in 24 hours. The rich people like the Rockefeller's pick presidents not the people. Obama came out of no where, did really nothing important but vote for abortion issues, when he was a senator for 6 months, and now is the most powerful person on earth. And is loving it. What has any politician really done, except lie to the people about everything. Our country is built on lies by the government, and no one cares. Everyone on the Internet mouths off about who voted for who, some of the message sent, sound like kids in a play ground fighting about who's father can beat up their father. If you can not be civilized in discussing problems here, how do you expect the government to be any different. The only difference is both parties are playing everyone as suckers. In stead of mouthing off here, why not mouth off to your Representatives. Because, Biff and Scooter should be taking the time to send email to the leaders of this country, instead of gripping on line.

Why all the conservative carping about the Obama team accepting corporate donations for the inaugural? To quote a famous Republican. "Corporations are people too, my friend." Those resounding words by Romney should allay all concerns pertaining to who foots the bill for the coronation inauguration. That will be another day "which will live in infamy" for hardline Reichwingers. God forgive me, but sometimes watching others suffer can be such a source of amusement.

The guy got re-elected, it's not like this is his initial swearing in. Obama could have showed great leadership by foregoing this nonsense, and getting back to the issues at hand.

It appears that the corporate world does not share your concerns and that makes sense. Anything that holds the potential for greater access to the president is deemed money well spent, hoping he will be a charitable toward them in the future as they have been toward him in his 'installation procedure.' Seldom works that way unless the names on the list match prior donations that ensured his election. But what the Hell, its only money.

The Republicans thought unleashing a tsunami of corporate money with the Citizens United decision would have swamped the opposition. Turns out, it was a double-edged sword - and the Democrats were able to stave off the onslaught with corporate and private donations. Republicans have little moral ground to stand on in situations like this...

Well, the marxist, socialist, communist, dog eating, illegal alien, illegitimate president has the nerve to actually celebrate his election victory. If the rightwing clowns had their way, the Obamas would be living in a shed on the whitehouse grounds somewhere, eating nothing but beans and begging for more, while runing the country. Nothing less would satisfy these poor excuses for human beings.

Why how dare this uppity Chicago (insert n-word here) think he has any right to live in the mansion, unless he is part of the kitchen staff living in the servants' quarters. Leroy, its getting a lot more difficult for Righties to hide their prejudices ~ and after getting spanked a month ago, some don't even try anymore.
