Obama inauguration will take unlimited corporate funds

President Barack Obama will accept unlimited corporate contributions to help finance his 2013 inauguration, a shift from 2009, when corporate funding was barred and per-person donations were capped at $50,000.

The president's inaugural committee made the decision, which was first reported by Politico, because, they said, contributions from individuals alone would not raise enough to cover the price tag of all the events.

"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history," Addie Whisenant, spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said in a statement.

The inaugural committee in 2008 said that its ban on corporate funding, among other initiatives, would help "underscore their commitment to change business as usual in Washington."

Lobbyists and political action committees are still barred from donating, and there will be no sponsorship agreements. All corporate contributions will be vetted and the committee will not accept any from companies who accepted TARP funds and haven't paid them back yet.

The inaugural committee also notes that these are the same guidelines to which civic organizations like arts museums and the American Red Cross adhere.

Libs always know when cons get the shaft. Cons always know when liberals do... It's a great system... Folks always get the shaft, and only half of them complain.

Meanwhile fund raising is at an all time high.

I wonder how much taxpayers dollars could be put to better use if the governments stops all the nonsense ceremonies they stage.

Maybe President Obama should park Air Force One in the garage for the next four years to make on point to the useless deadbeat Congress?

Ad'M- Good suggestion. He could then use the new buses that cost over a million dollars each to go around the country. He could cut security since he has had more than ALL other presidents in history. He has no foreign policies worth a damn so he doesn't need to leave the USA. No one wants to see him anyway except his lost sheep.

The reason that Romney lost the election was because he said that he was going to put people back to work and 51% said hell no I don't want to work for a living!!

How is this a civic event if it costs so much money? How about skipping the re-coronation, staying in the oval office, and use that money instead to go towards the 60 billion that your asking congress for disaster relief?

LordPyrinc, You should know better to use common sense around the Democraps. It just doesn't compute. They shy away from logic, truth, facts and proof. They have their own warped, illogical, delusional reality. Please don't confuse them by being logical and practical. It should say something by who they elected as president. There is absolutely NO LOGIC at all that anyone can explain why they reelected Obama. It is totally ILLOGICAL by ALL senses or means. He ran a trashy campaign with NOTHING on his plate but putting Romney down. He ran absolutely nothing showing what he did for our country. NOTHING!!

If Obama truly gave a damn about this country, he would wave the full inauguration and keep it very simple due to limited funds in the til. But then again,Obama is working up towards a coronation, after the 2nd term expires for his life term appointee! He is working on his executive power circumventing the 14th Amendment like foreign Presidents, Chavez and other Dictators have done in their countries. Believe it or not!!

The socialist liberals will be asking what happen to all the rich peoples money after they wire everything they have into foreign accounts. They will also stop investing in the USA. Jobs will be pulled even more out of the USA and sent or reestablished in other countries,. The Democrats have no means or have invested their time and efforts into the Free Enterprise System like the Republicans have done. There won't be much money put in the til like it is now. The Top earners account for over 2 thirds of the taxes now. If Obama keeps screwing around, there won't be much tax money to collect the way he and the government are spending the little funds they are receiving now. Obama best cut the size of government and pay as you go program like Germany does. If you don't have the money to buy something, you wait til you can pay for something. But with the asinine mentality that has been in government so far, during this administration, doesn't look good for the next 4 years.

Obama is simply a lying hypocrite. He got elected by pandering to every special interest group there is, promising everything to everyone. We have simply passed the tipping point in democracy where the uneducated and easily-duped masses vote for whomever promises the most free stuff and benefits. This election proved it. There is no way back now, without violent revolution or complete breakdown of the society.

The average white Obama voter is better-educated than the average white Romney voter. As a matter of fact, the more years of education the voter had, the more likely he or she is to have voted for President Obama.

I would prefer that there was no event. Put your hand on the BIBLE, wave to the crowd and go home and go to bed. But of course this will not happen, as these Presidential inaugurations are exactly the way the U.S. government operates.....frivolous, mindless spending for nothing. The funds spent on this calamity, public, private, corporate could be put to far more productive uses. What the hell, throw it all away, just like they are doing to our entire country. Good night.

I'm happy Obama was re-elected. And I'm cool if there's no 'pomp and circumstance' surrounding his re-inauguration. In light of the financial problems in this country, I think a simple ceremony in the Capitol's rotunda with the House of Reps, Congress and a few ex-presidents in attendance with hors d'oeuvres being served after the swearing in ceremony would be best. These politicians gotta start cutting back on the illicit spending somewhere.

The United States lost terribly this november, - the fools dont think obamas harm will effect them - cant wait till they realize what a mistake they made - wait till they open their first paycheck of the year and all the new obama taxes they're getting slammed with.

Obama wants to extend the tax cuts for the middle class right now. The republicans are so adamant about getting the break extended for the very top, they are holding hostage those who really need the tax cut even though the republcans themselves have nothing against giving it to them. They are still the traitorous scumbags they were before the election.
