President Barack Obama will accept unlimited corporate contributions to help finance his 2013 inauguration, a shift from 2009, when corporate funding was barred and per-person donations were capped at $50,000.
The president's inaugural committee made the decision, which was first reported by Politico, because, they said, contributions from individuals alone would not raise enough to cover the price tag of all the events.
"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history," Addie Whisenant, spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said in a statement.
The inaugural committee in 2008 said that its ban on corporate funding, among other initiatives, would help "underscore their commitment to change business as usual in Washington."
Lobbyists and political action committees are still barred from donating, and there will be no sponsorship agreements. All corporate contributions will be vetted and the committee will not accept any from companies who accepted TARP funds and haven't paid them back yet.
The inaugural committee also notes that these are the same guidelines to which civic organizations like arts museums and the American Red Cross adhere.

The problem with Boehner's "loopholes and deductions" is WHICH loopholes and deductions? We already know one is mortgage interest which, because of limitations, affects a larger percentage of the Middle Classes taxes than the very wealthy. Let's see Boehner talk about loopholes and deductions that principally affect the top 1%'s financial actions before further destruction of the Middle Class.
You mean like raising the medical deductions from 7% AGI to 10% AGI and lowering FSA contributions courtesy of the Dems ACA bill? The Dems did a good job of sticking it to the middle class in that bill.

I would have thought he would be able to cut a few costs in this tight economy. I mean, he could bring in his buddies from the New Black Panthers for security, and how about the union guys at Delphi who he gave other people's pensions to - they could come and help out, and what about all those buddies getting stimulus money. The green energy guys should be able to give a hand after the millions he gifted to them. He has a real opportunity to set an example here, to make a statement and help establish his legacy. But, alas, no, he will spend, spend, spend.
I wonder how many more jobs this little venture will cost Americans.....corporations prepare for holiday axing, yet pony up millions for the inauguration of our faux President!

I just have to comment on the people who are complaining that Obama is taking a vacation. First of all, the ball is in Congress' court. Secondly, George W was in the southern white house more than he was in DC. No one complained then. In fact, George W took more vacations than any president before him. We live in the 21st Century. you think that President Obama isn't doing his job when he is in Hawaii? There are phones, computers, etc. I go on vacation. Work has my cell phone. That's just the way it is nowadays. Working vacations.
I'm glad that President Obama is getting corporate help in paying for the inauguration. I'd prefer Congress put a law into effect that re-elects don't have public inaugurations but we can't even get this Congress to vote on anything other than renaming post offices and parks. (Wish we would have sold rights to corporations for Ronald Reagans funeral in 2004. $400 million, for a freaking funeral.) Hope Congress learned their lesson from that one.
All those cell phones and computer at Obama's disposable did the people of the Gulf States a world of good when the Gulf Oil spill happened while Obama was on Vacation.
Obama couldn't even take a minute out of his vacation to give all those specially built oil skimming ships tied up at docks the okay to got to work while million of gallons of crude washed up on beaches and contaminated rivers and wet lands.

Unlimited money was spent, in the effort to keep President Obama out of office, time for them to pay for the party, proving how dead wrong they were.
With Obama's policy of bailouts, stimulus packages and exemption from the Obamacare mandates, no problem, each company that donates is sure to get a hefty return on their money.

OK, so the Republicans were able to barely squeak W into the White House with a clearly LOWER total of the popular vote, because he won the electoral vote with Florida putting him over the top, despite widespread 'irregularities'. His brother being Governor of said state had, I am certain, nothing whatsoever to do with W's remarkable accomplishment there.
Next,in 2004, we have Ohio's Secretary of State, a prominent Republican and Bush organizer, "guaranteeing" that he'll "deliver Ohio for President Bush", which he does, with tens of thousands of 'flipped' votes, and as many again that simply disappeared- but once again, nobody would ever dream of suggesting that perhaps Sec. Blackwell had been up to any skullduggery. Heavens, no- why, the man's a Christian!
Now, in 2012, Karl Rove, after having predicted Romney winning by huge margins in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio, goes completely off the f*****g rails in front of God and the world when it's demonstrated to him on his own propaganda channel that his vote- theft machinery has itself been stolen right out from under him, and that the tens of thousands of votes he'd paid handsomely to have 'flipped' were, in fact, being counted honestly... for President Obama, who, while Karl is having conniptions in his 'time-out' chair, is cruising to a landslide victory.
That's pretty much how it went down in the last 12 years, folks. Apparently the Reptilicans are most upset about the fact that they squandered this staggering amount of money, and the will of the people prevailed anyway. Suck it up, R's; you blew it, and your Party is going the way of the Whigs.
The difference of the total popular votes for this election were closer than the results of 2004. You can very easily look up the numbers as I have, but it doesn't match with your nonsense. There are also numerous articles about voters complaining that the automated machines kept changing their vote to Obama. Again, you can look this up too. Just be a good Obama zombie and go away.

Calling me a zombie is another cheap out; I have been critical of the President many times, in many public forums, and have often come under heavy fire from my fellow Progressives for so doing (you shoulda been there the day I called Obama "our best Republican president since Bill Clinton").

This president leads the party that is supposedly "For the little people" yet he is bought by corporations for a nice big fancy party. If he had any kind of real moral and respect for the middle class he would have a modest inauguration, not one of a CEO. The irony of the democrats hypocrisy is finally starting to shine through the fog of war.
Trust me people...we the taxpayers are paying in some shape, form or fashion...............
