Obama inauguration will take unlimited corporate funds

President Barack Obama will accept unlimited corporate contributions to help finance his 2013 inauguration, a shift from 2009, when corporate funding was barred and per-person donations were capped at $50,000.

The president's inaugural committee made the decision, which was first reported by Politico, because, they said, contributions from individuals alone would not raise enough to cover the price tag of all the events.

"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history," Addie Whisenant, spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said in a statement.

The inaugural committee in 2008 said that its ban on corporate funding, among other initiatives, would help "underscore their commitment to change business as usual in Washington."

Lobbyists and political action committees are still barred from donating, and there will be no sponsorship agreements. All corporate contributions will be vetted and the committee will not accept any from companies who accepted TARP funds and haven't paid them back yet.

The inaugural committee also notes that these are the same guidelines to which civic organizations like arts museums and the American Red Cross adhere.

If he didn't take corporate funds, the right wing crazies would be pissing and moaning that they are paying for it.

BTW - corporate profits are the highest in our history!!! Thank you President Obama!

It is truly pitiful that the liberals are still ranting about Romney, Bush and the GOP. The GOP has been a gracious loser, the liberals have been rather arrogant, nasty and malicious as a winner. They are really spiteful and hateful people to listen too. Even though they may have a higher educational background over other parties, they are lacking in real world experience, common sense, compassion, character and morals. It is obvious with the direction our country is heading, which is down the path of either a 3rd world country or the path Germany took with Hitler. I can honestly say, I have never had the feeling of being embarrassed and sad of being an American as I do today. The patriotism and disloyalty in America has never been at its lowest as it has grown over the last 4 years. This country has NEVER been more divided and Racist due to the Democrats promoting this anger due to Obama administration. Mainly because of the anti American and communist loyalty with people Obama has placed in high government positions. The America that I knew ,is almost gone and truly a disgrace as to the direction America is heading. Other countries around the world, have lost faith and trust in America, mainly because of Obama not having a foreign policy and showing dishonesty and lying. Our allies do not trust us because of top secret leaks from the White House and then taking obvious steps to back track and cover up the truth. The security for America has diminished from what it was and the citizens do not feel safe from terrorism both domestic and foreign. We have a government that is weak and self serving and citizens are not protected by the government compared to a nation like Israel that takes ALL steps to protect her people. Religion has become secondary in America and money has become first. America will be no more in the months and years to come with the direction we are heading. We must overcome this belligerent, unrealistic, delusional mentality that has taken over America. Companies that will invest in the inauguration will be companies like GM, GE and union companies. Not companies that were built and owned by true Americans and still run by hardworking family people. The small companies that are not controlled and supporters of Obama. It is really sad the Socialist America we are today.

This post is a prime example of blame shifting. Everything you posted perfectly reflects the RepublicanWingnut mentality and everyone here knows it. We know your program because it's like a scratched record album stuck on repeating the word stupid. And...the GOP is anything but "gracious". All one has to do is go to any website not owned by Fox that still has a comments section. These people rag on America for sport because of their hatred for ONE MAN.

          #181.2 - Sun Dec 9, 2012 11:21 AM EST

It is sure ironic how you people overlook the most important comments or facts, and look at what may suit your ego. America is in terrible trouble and half the USA is not living in reality and very delusional and Narcissistic. One day when you wake up from being so happy with yourself and unrealistic, and see that the bottom has fallen out in America, then we will see how happy you will be. Your day will be coming sooner than you expect! The GOP sees the writing on the wall and trying to head off a disaster in the making. NO, the GOP is far from perfect, but at least they are living in reality unlike the Democrats and doing their best. Democrats think money is grown on trees and now trying to get some from the business world that they have alienated. Good Luck!!

And with or without the fiscal cliff , everyone's taxes will go up in Jan. to help pay for Obamacare. If you sell your house now you will have to give a percentage to the government.

First I voted for Pres. Obama, that said lets cut back on the inaguration festivies, make it a peoples inaguration and request large corporations instead donate to a special fund to assit the recovery from Sandy. That would be a lasting legacy and might start a trend among future Presidents to cut back on lavish balls for the rich and famous and instead have the President's party hold local low key parties, from pitch-ins to watch the the swearing in DC to parties with an admission cost of $25.00 0r less. Encourge all Americans to celebrate our electoral process.

The country is drowning in debt; the unemployment figures are abysmal' 75% of the world hates us, or looks on us like we are idiots; and now, the President shows how important the "corporations" are to him. Do you think just anybody is going to be invited to all the "circus" they are planning? Where is the party for the middle class, the poor, the immigrants - legal or illegal? Nope, you weren't invited, even though the President is supposed to represent the whole country, not just those with huge bank accounts. Maybe this is his idea of "taxing" the rich. If you can't get a tax through, let's just relieve them of their money by throwing a party. Since I didn't vote for him, I hope the rest of you that did are happy with the values this president is showing us.

75% of the world had a right to hate America. For the first time in our history, we committed an unprovoked attack on another country, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people, violated international law by torturing prisoners and sent the world economy into the toilet. For the first time in our history, we were the bad guys.

We still have work to do as the subversive group that almost destroyed America still has a majority in the house and the Supreme Court. The Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court is the biggest threat to democracy we have ever seen. We are fortunate that their attempts to steal the election through voter suppression and voter intimidation last November failed. We must rid our government of this pond scum and restore American to the great nation it once was.

FRED, Why all the whining??? I would think this would make you happy. Isn't the Right all about worshipping the uber rich and corporate power? And I don't recall Obama condemning the "one percent" unless you equate asking them to pay their share in taxes condeming them. There are plenty of wealthy Democrats, the difference being that most of them feel it their civic and patriotic duty to help the nation that allowed them to acquire so much wealth instead of not stop bitching about it as the Right does.

Had Obama planned a huge extravaganza, utilizing public funds, you'd be screaming just as loud if not more so which merely proves that you will condemn him, regardless of what he does. And if the notion of "Infulence Peddling" is offensive to you, can you imagine what it would be like had Willard, the corporate drone won election?

Doncha just love it Oz, when the righties "criticize" Obama for being a corporate puppet, or a "warmonger" or a "liar?" "Duuuh, Obama didn't get us out of Afghanistan yet, duuuuuh, Obama takes wall street money, duuuuh, Obama lies" And their solution for these horrible Obama traits is to put back in power the party that is OWNED lock, stock and barrel by corporate interests led by a neocon and corporate puppet, a man who is the most blatant liar who has ever disgraced the American political scene, a man with no core, no integrity, no morals whatsoever.

Righties themselves criticize Obama for being too conservative, while calling him a "communist!" You just can't fix stupid...

If you are talking about the Citizens United ruling, they didn't say that corporations are people. Mitt Romney said that. If the supreme court had ruled that corporations were people, the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson and Karl Rove would not have been able to spend a billion dollars to buy the white house.

Were you outraged when President Bush was inaugurated twice? What about President Clinton? President Reagan?

Ask yourself, "Are Tax Consumers better than successful Tax Producers?".

Ronney is a successful Tax Producer. Most voters voted for the King of greedy Tax Consumers.

Imagine - you might want to check on the states that take more from the federal government than they contribute. The worst are the red states mostly in the deep south. The blue states are the producers and the red states are the takers.

It's really sad to see so MANY people, who are probably good folks deep down, insist on limiting their discussion to one Ken doll corporate puppet or the other. Think about a party that is more like you: The Green Party.

If justice and using common sense means anything to you, you'll want to take a look at their platform. See www.gp.org

Greens only remain on the fringe in the USA, because the corporate media is ignoring us, as they see us as a threat. So upon reading this post, the only thing holding you back from finding out now is: yourself! Try not to let that happen. As more people register Greens----------Greens WILL get a voice.

Leroy: They won't pay a thing. They will now outsource jobs more then ever. Believe me I know because I am in manufacturing and it is already happening. I work for one of the largest automotive companies in the world and all plans to expand or build facilities in the US has been stopped.

It is going to be 4 years of massive outsourcing that will cause serious job losses.

You cannot punish the rich because they hold all of the cards and they are also the ones that create jobs.

"Can't do anything about it, nope, the rich are our masters, better get used to it Leroy." Sorry Doug, I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet

Come on Leroy 80 hour weeks?? The department of labor in the US will not allow people to be forced to 80 hour weeks.

People in other countries will gladly work 80 hour weeks and when I was young I would do it also for the overtime.

The workforce in this country has become lazy and unwilling to work for their money. Now the Unions want to tell companies how to run their business and that will not happen. Unions are dropping like flies because they abuse the system. Can you say TWINKIES??

I don't mind working for the rich as they pay me an excellent wage. This is because I am dedicated which people nowadays are unwilling to be.

Quit complaining about the rich because without them you really will be eating crumbs instead of exaggerating about it.

Twinkies – good example. Hostess was a perfect example of vulture capitalism. Run up the debt, suck all the money out and screw the workers by filing bankruptcy. Big bonuses for the incompetent managers and workers lose their jobs and retirement. Romney must have really enjoyed watching this one.

The rich create all the jobs? Doug, can you really be that stupid. Supply side economics is a total failure. Demand for goods creates jobs. And the demand for goods and services comes from the middle class.

Doug - let me try something here. 400 people in this country have more wealth than 160 million Americans. Let's talk about cars. I know rich people need lots of cars so we will say that the 400 might buy 4 each so 1,600 car sales. Regular people have only one car so that's 1,600 vs 160,000,000 potential car sales. Or we could talk about television sets. 3 TV sets each for the rich so 1,200 vs 160,000,000. When lots of cars and TV sets are selling, companies need to make more so they hire people. And people get hired to service and repair those cars. More money for the super rich is good for off shore banks but does nothing to help our economy.

I thought that the basic concepts of supply and demand were taught in high school. Did republicans sleep though high school?

Jim: With your IQ this story says it all. You may be one of the guys in this video. All I can say is would you buy a car from this company?

You will have to go to fox news and search for Chrysler workers canned for drinking on the job because NBC will not allow a post now from Fox because they expose NBC for not giving the entire explanation. I tried posting a link but NBC will not allow any other point of view on this post. Talk about censorship!!

If you say yes you would be lying. This story was also on NBC and you can search for it and get the same story. Watch the wealthy pull jobs out of this country over the next 4 years and then tell me that you agree with Obama economic policies.

Found it - 13 workers fired and 2 suspended for drinking on their lunch breaks. And they got reinstated because of the union. That would mean that 55,672 employees were not drinking during their lunch breaks. Alcohol is very addictive and I hope these people can get help.

I had a Dodge van for a long time. Over 300,000 miles and not too many problems. I have had several Porsche 911s but after the 2nd worst economic disaster in our history in 2008, I can't afford to buy another one today. Maybe in a few years if we can keep the republicans out of our government. Maybe Fox could check to see how many Porsche employees are drinking at lunch time?

I want Fox to check on Wall Street to see how many of our money managers are drinking at lunch time. Probably just about all of them.

Doug - on the supply and demand thing, I know you are doing the best you can with what you have to work with.

And the wealthy won't be pulling jobs out of this country if we can rebuild the middle class so they can afford to buy some stuff. The wealthy will have to hire more people to meet the demand.

Jim: I will agree with you on that statement as most of the people that handle Americans money are drunk, High or plain stupid.

I have made very good money in my life working for wealthy people because they have rewarded hard working employees. I received my PhD while working a full time job. This took me over ten years and allot of hard work and determination. I don't think it is right that now I am being asked to share with people that didn't do squat for a living to try and make their life better.

I didn't come from a wealthy family but now that I have money I am supposed to share? BS!!

                                                      Jim,

I hate to tell you this but the wealthy started pulling their money out before Obama was re-elected. I have several people that I deal with that already plan on closing several companies in the next 6 months.

Between 5 people I know they employ over 5,500 people. These jobs will be eliminated and moved and the employees don't even know it yet.

It is coming. I hate to say this but these are just some of the people I know that are doing this to avoid the Obama share your wealth plan.

It is going to get real scary in the next couple of years.

No suicide thoughts here as my money is safe elsewhere.

More successful Tax Producers = more Tax Producer jobs, lower prices, smaller governments, lower taxes, fewer greedy Tax Consumers.

Imagine - you really need to check out the blue states that contribute more to the federal government than they take and the red states that take far more than they contribute. The red states are sucking the life out of this country. I'm in favor of letting them secede.

                                                      Blue states = tax producers

Why can't the republicans mention anything they want to cut?

There is this idea out there that most of what the government does is useless, a pointless waste of money, that the government should be slashed. This idea is pure rubbish. The truth is that money the government "spends" is going toward making this country a nice place for all of us to live in. The money is used to upkeep infrastructure, fund a military for our protection as well as police forces and fire departments. There is NOT any huge wastes of public funds, there is not much that either side is willing to cut, this is why we have heard so little specifics on cuts. If people really understood what our options are for controlling the debt, they would all vote for a much more serious tax hike for the wealthy than merely letting their "gift" extra tax cut, which was never meant to be permanent in the first place, expire.

They do. They want to cut education. Try to level the playing field. It won't work but at least they know what their problem is. Romney won big in all of the bottom 10 states in education except Nevada. Obama won by wide margins in all of the top 10 states in education. Romney won big in the deep south but there just weren't enough hillbillies and rednecks to put him over the top.

Almost 40,000 Americans gave their lives, and U.S. taxpayers have spent billions of dollars so South Koreans can live as a free society. This South Korean guy PSY advocated killing American civilians after he was given the right to freedom by the American lives and dollars. It would be a travesty for the Obama's to attend this concert and politely applaud this jerks 'entertainment'.

Think your free living under UN, US, State, County, Municipal and Neighborhood Watch governments? The rich are planning an austere existence for us at the point of a bayonet and police drones.

And I'm not gonna let some shyster republican or democrat, rob me of my earned benefits, for some silly debt reduction excuse, that is really going into the greedy evil rich man's wallet. If the top 2%ers rob my country of its wealth and offshore it, that makes them my enemy. I favor legislation to identify, and tax offshore accounts and investment like yours Dougie. Its called the progressive agenda pal.
