President Barack Obama will accept unlimited corporate contributions to help finance his 2013 inauguration, a shift from 2009, when corporate funding was barred and per-person donations were capped at $50,000.
The president's inaugural committee made the decision, which was first reported by Politico, because, they said, contributions from individuals alone would not raise enough to cover the price tag of all the events.
"Our goal is to make sure that we will meet the fundraising requirements for this civic event after the most expensive presidential campaign in history," Addie Whisenant, spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said in a statement.
The inaugural committee in 2008 said that its ban on corporate funding, among other initiatives, would help "underscore their commitment to change business as usual in Washington."
Lobbyists and political action committees are still barred from donating, and there will be no sponsorship agreements. All corporate contributions will be vetted and the committee will not accept any from companies who accepted TARP funds and haven't paid them back yet.
The inaugural committee also notes that these are the same guidelines to which civic organizations like arts museums and the American Red Cross adhere.

As a staunch left-winger, I would like to say that I agree with your assessment of Obama 100%. His financial "reform" was a joke, leaving plenty of wiggle room for future abuses which are undoubtedly taking place right now. Obama does, however, at least be practical enough to try to temper the greed at the top a tiny little bit so as not to have the entire economy collapse from their greed. The republicans actually have the nerve to criticize the tiny little bit of a move toward fairness as "socialism" and "communism" and half the country is so incredibly stupid, they actually BUY this nonsense.
When he starts to suck the cash out of YOUR wallet, let's see you call it "fairness".

Do people still get upset when fiscal conservatives refer to taxation and other deeply financial regulatory control as "rendering unto Caesar"? These inaugural galas make old Roman Triumphs look like casual gatherings. It's not coincidental that the word inaugural stems from the wort augur, ancient Roman priests who divined the will of The Gods by observing the flights of birds. Still just as silly and superstitious as ever so the etymological uses of the words aren't all that dissimilar. Two thousand years doesn't alter the fact that deeply Statist functions operate with superstition, and gaudy displays of consumption and frivolity to cover up that fact.
When was the last time a president set a good example from either party. I'm not saying Obama doesn't deserve the party but if he cancelled the show and said we have too much work to do, he would be the man.
I have to disagree with everyone who wants the parties canceled. That's a give up/give in mentality. America is the land of hope and better things being right around the corner. Defeatist attitude.

Obama won the top 10 states in education by wide margins. Romney won all of the bottom 10 states in education except Nevada.

Yep... that liberal tax and spend, regulate and unionize stuff has really worked out for them. And they now, like the companies that were "too big to fail" and homeowners who borrowed more than they could afford, students who borrowed more than they could afford, expect to be bailed out.
We have taken to rewarding failed processes and stupidity and taxing, regulating and stifling creativity and entrepreneurship. Detroit and Michigan was in the tank 30 years ago when I left. And they are still doing the same thing following the same failed models.....
There is a reason that Obama is the first president ever to win by a closer popular and electoral vote margin than he won the first time-if he even won at all?. He just got enough moderates gullible enough to put him over the top by convincing them that he could govern from the middle(like he ever did the first time).

President Obama needs a ceremony that is fit for a King.

People are out of work and we are wasting millions, not only on the elections, but now an inauguration. This has nothing to do with Obama, but every President that wins a second term. We do not need another inauguration.
But the worse thing of all is that all the money donated comes with expecting something in return. And that is just wrong.
Imagine what Romney had to promise the Koch brothers to get their 400 million. And promise Sheldon Adelson to get his 150 million. And Karl Rove to get his 300 million. These people were almost running the country.
Tax the crap out of them and then take donations? This man has cojones. Hate on them. Take their profits. Regulate the crap out of them and then gratiously take as much as they will donate? Wonder who's pockets are being lined?

Oh that is right the unemployment rate is going down but that is because so many Americans have ran out of unemployment and have quit looking for jobs.
The reason 51% of Americans voted for him was because Romney made the mistake of telling them he was going to put Americans back to work. The 51% said Hell no we don't want to work for a living!
Actually it's because the last republican president put record numbers of people in the unemployment lines and Romney wanted to go back to the same failed policies. There were just too many voters with IQs over 95.
