Updated 12:44 p.m. - South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, an influential Republican who has helped prod his party rightward, will step down from his seat in January to become the next director of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.
NBC's Chuck Todd and Kelly O'Donnell discuss the departure of Tea Party favorite from the US Senate, and possible replacements South Carolina Gov. Haley could pick.
DeMint announced Thursday that he planned to succeed Ed Feulner, the longtime head of the Heritage Foundation, next month. The news of his departure was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.
"I'm leaving the Senate now, but I'm not leaving the fight. I've decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas," DeMint said in a statement. "No organization is better equipped to lead this fight and I believe my experience in public office as well as in the private sector as a business owner will help Heritage become even more effective in the years to come."
The Heritage Foundation said DeMint's "passion for rigorous research, his dedication to the principles of our nation’s founding, and his ability to translate policy ideas into action make him an ideal choice to lead Heritage to even greater success."
Since being elected to the Senate in 2004, DeMint has not-infrequently clashed with Republican leaders on specific pieces of legislation and the overall direction of the party.
His conservative obstinance made him a hero among the party's grassroots. DeMint wielded that influence through his Senate Conservatives Fund, supporting more ideologically pure candidates over candidates deemed more politically-able by Republican Party leaders.
DeMint had even been rumored in 2011 to be thinking of challenging Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell for the position of Republican leader, though he eventually declined.
Among DeMint's successes through his Senate Conservatives Fund was the championing of senators like Florida's Marco Rubio, Kentucky's Rand Paul, and Utah's Mike Lee. Among DeMint's failures were the two Senate candidates -- Richard Mourdock in Indiana and Todd Akin in Missouri -- who lost their 2012 bids in the wake of controversial remarks about rape.
"I think if you're interested in having Republicans control the Senate you have to back Republicans who fit their state and who can win in a general election not just in the primary," Maine Sen. Susan Collins, a moderate Republican, told NBC News about whether there were any lessons from DeMint's tenure on Capitol Hill.

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.
DeMint had said he would leave the Senate in 2016, following the completion of his second term, meaning his departure in January will be ahead of schedule.
South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, another conservative Republican who enjoys grassroots support, will be allowed to name a replacement, who would have to face a special election in 2014 to serve out the remaining two years of DeMint's term. A variety of Republicans could jockey to replace DeMint, from Haley herself to a couple of her allies -- Tedd Pitts, her deputy chief of staff, or State Rep. Nathan Ballentine -- to U.S. Rep. Tim Scott or other members of the state's GOP establishment.
"Looking forward, Governor Haley will now appoint a new Senator, and I know she will make the right choice both for South Carolina and the nation," Scott Said in a statement.
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, a relatively more moderate Republican who's expected to face a primary challenge, is also up for re-election that fall.
There is also the broader question of who, among the 45 Senate Republicans, will seize the mantle of conservative leadership in the upper chamber. Several of the senators whom DeMint helped elect have modeled their actions after the Palmetto State senator, creating their own political action committees and breaking on occasion with the GOP leadership.
NBC's Tom Curry contributed.

YAY!!!
DeMint departs... and the Senate will be greatly improved for it.
Gee! I'm really gonna miss him...LMAO
About as much as an STD!
Him and Frothy Santorum with their "fire down below"...
Probably won't be the standard sex scandal. This pervert will go balls in when it comes to "kink" and put David Vitter to shame... lol
I wonder what the scandal he's trying to head off is going to be...
And then there's that handwriting on the wall that says that the GOP is facing waning demographics, being on the wrong side of public opinion, and no longer eligible for Costco memberships.
Good riddance! Can he take Rand Paul with him?
Good by and good riddance. Another member of the Over the Hill Gang heads into the sunset.
The great nation that was America before his kind took hold of it will not miss him.
Good riddance tea bagger. Take your BS and aversion to intelligence with you.
Only thing is that this is South Carolina and the Confereracy will just elect another crazy right-winged bigot to replace him.
Yea, with luck this will be the first of many. What poor losers... "I didn't win so I am taking my ball and going home". Well, at Heritage he can practice what he preaches... which he should not be doing at all in a public forum.... He can teach everyone the way that they should live... his way.
GOP is history, little by little they will be gone...GOOD!
OMG!!!!!!
THERE IS A SANTA CLAUSE!!!! YEA!
I suppose he didn't see his career in the Senate going anywhere so he's moving up to "Lobbyist-in-Chief" with a sure-fire increase in pay. (Well, LEGAL payments anyway)
Good bye, you WON'T be missed.
DrowningGrover ... it's pure greed and politics: mo' money for him and mo' evangelical focus now on the Heritage Foundation grassroots level of hate. The GOP has been shifting in that direction sine 2008. Expect a fight for a stranglehold on Red States and especially Red State legislative train wrecks involving women's rights and gay marriage, now that the overall American public has finally moved into the 21st century. Look for the GOP to double down on garnering the latino vote, particularly the Catholic latino vote. These GOP emons straight from the bowels of hell are not done grabbing for power and splitting this nation apart with their theocratic ignorance.
Bottom line: it will suck to be female and/or gay (as well as white or black and female or gay) in a Red State for the next decade+.
Hopefully we see more career politicos like this guy continue to seek employment elsewhere so the country can finally get some things done. Can anyone on here name one meaning full piece of legislation sponsored by this guy that advanced Americans forward?
I know.. stupid question! But i bet he will not turn down his lifetime gauranteed benefits and pension for all of his hard part-time work all these years to, you know, cut govt spending...
OMG, Christmas came early!
Thank you Santa, you have just made my Christmas a lot brighter.
The Heritage Foundation is responsible for inspiring the worst policy decisions enacted in my state and elsewhere over the last two years. In fact, our Tea Party governor came into office with the intent of implementing their whole agenda, regardless of whether their policies were right for Maine, or not. For example, the Heritage Foundation thinks environmental regulations stifle the free market, so one of the first thing Gov. LePage said he wanted to do was roll back a law keeping the chemical BPA out of children's sippy cups! What a way to start an administration.
Probably won't be the standard sex scandal. This pervert will go balls in when it comes to "kink" and put David Vitter to shame... lol
Feisty, He probably had a night on the town, toe tapping with Larry Craig.....
The problem is he is leaving the Senate. To be effective, we need people to leave the House to move things along. The GOP has no power in the Senate, so it makes sense to draw one of their own from there and not where they still maintain a foothold. (We need to push them harder in the House.)
Is this news really so great? Republican Gov. Nikki Haley gets to appoint his Senate successor.
He is NOT part of the Republican grass roots. He is too far right to be their base and most Republicans know it and now so does he.
DeMint,
"I've decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas,"
Obviously they are about to run out of ammunition
I don't know anything about him and certainly didn't vote for him, but wasn't he elected by someone? A lot of someones who expect him to do the job they elected him for. Now he's pulling a Sarah Palin and letting all those people down and he doesn't even have her excuse of constant harassment. What a weak putz. The Heritage Foundation may not be gaining much.
Thank you for your service, Senator DeMint.
I guess when failed Senator Harry Reid hasn't put a budget to the floor in 1400 days, it gets rather frustrating.
Democrat Senate rule since 2006 has been a DISASTER for our country:
*16 trillion in debt
*4 consecutive trillion dollar deficits
*A banking and financial crisis
*Millions of American homeowners underwater
*A trillion dollar healthcare bill that nobody read ("We have to pass the bill in order to find out what's in the bill")
*23 million Americans struggling to find full-time work
What a calamity!!!
steeerike three!!! your outta here! this is great news. he is going to nowhere land now. but will make a ton of money there. he's just a tool.
less stench. keep the wounds clean. we are begining to heal!
You people are a disgusting unhinged lot. Don't go shooting up any theaters in celebration tonight.
arther everything you just said except the ACA was not the democrat policies that caused all of that. it had already happend at during the bush adminsitration. it was his policies that cause all of this. your have a warped mind.
The Queen song, "Another One Bites the Dust" keeps running through my head. Just as an ironic aside, wasn't it at The Heritage Foundation that the ACA was thought up?
Run Forrest.............Run..............
God Bless Jim DeMint. If we only had 99 more like him in the Senate this economy could recover and lead this country back to once was considered the largest and strongest country in the world. Not anymore - we are collapsing before our very eyes both economically and financially.
But that's what happens when you elect Democrats to run the country. Here is what is now considered the "new normal":
1) $6 Trillion in debt in just four years
2) Near 8% unemployment after four years AND going up
3) Stagnant GDP of about 2% (GDP should be growing 4% to 6% four years after a recovery)
4) The WORST economic recovery in United States history
5) The lowest labor-participation rate since the 70's
6) The largest percentage of unemployed workers out of work 6 months or more since the Great Depression
7) Highest percent of population on Welfare since the 70's
8) Highest percent of population on Food Stamps since the program was founded
Amazing how Democrats like to say "we are moving in the right direction" but looking at the above info if they REALLY consider this catastrophic economy as a "recovery" then god help us all....... We are moving headstrong into a financial and economic collapse.......
And the ONLY people who recognize it (like Jim DeMint) are leaving. God help us all.........
Think tank!!!! LOL!!!!
Good. He can do less damage there.
A think tank? Gee I didn't know he could think. Not a loss.
Jimmy does not play well with others. Now he is taking his ball and going home.
Weird Harry Reid refuses to put PBO's fiscal cliff plan to vote in the Senate.
To all you crazy libs out there, that means you can't even get your side to vote for it, how the hell are you going to get the other side to vote for it?
Wait I guess that means the Repubs are being obstructionists.
Mr. Geithner said it best the other day, it doesn't matter how much money raising taxes on the top 2% actually brings it, it just needs to be done.
Demint going for the bigger paycheck! Don't let the door hit you............................
Good post, ProBusiness.
Fortunately for our country, DeMint will be replaced with a Constitutional Conservative.
Thank God for Governor Nikki Haley!
November 6th 2012, South Carolina's Senator Jim DeMint met his Waterloo!!!
Yea!!!!
Again we see how little the GOP thinks of the common citizen when a Senator is willing to abandonhis constituents in the middle of his term to join a "Think Tank". I guess he recognizes that he is so far out of touch with the people who elected him that he doesn't want to have anything else to do with them.
Pro, that is what the left calls moving forward and progress.
Who would have thought keeping people dumb, unemployed and depended on the government taking others peoples money would be considered progress?
As Jim Morrison said - "Ride the King's highway, baby"
Goodbye Jim, good riddence. Now if you could just take Mitch McConnell, Lindsay Graham, and John McCain with you maybe the Senate will finally be able to accomplish something.
Actually they are GAINING AMMUNITION, and you are too Blind to see it because Dems and Libs are too Consumed in their own Fecal Matter to REALIZE IT...
Is it just me, or are we seeing a purge in the GOP? First the four house teabaggers stripped of commitee seats, now the head bagger in the senate is gone. Leaving voluntarily, or avoiding a public spanking?
This also puts Haley in a tough spot; does she appoint a 'approved-by-the-adults' replacement, or pander to the RWNJs and replace him with a like-minded clone?
On a side note, who saw the Maddow piece on Adelson last night? Where he admitted to being a social liberal, but figured he could buy enough GOP influence to get out of legal trouble? I wonder if that made FauxNooze....
ProBusiness, Ha HA HA HA HA HA! You are just as loony as Demented, oops I mean Demint... Good riddance to he and those who think like him. Did you forget that the American people have already rejected your foolish blame game? We know this country is in trouble, we simply don't believe that right wing fanatics have the answers...
The rats are fleeing from the Titanic!
Ha Demint was one of the architects and publicly vocal with regards to the Waterloo strategy towards this president and their number priority of simply making sure he was a one term president, epic fail eh Demint Obama is still here and your sorry ass is leaving. It is as it should be, you brought shame to the position of an elected representative of the US government. The nation is better off without you in office.
The first rat off of the sinking ship, the SS GOP.
Wow, the first hint of a compromise and they run like BIGGEST LOSER contestants at a buffet.
Don't worry about this BOZO !!!!!
As he will still be working for the KOCH BROTHERS. They run that think tank. They just moved him out of sight for a while. Bet this will not be the last we hear of him.
DrowningGrover
I wonder what the scandal he's trying to head off is going to be...
You took the words right out of my mouth. We shall see...Drip, Drip, Drip,
ProBusiness/Arthur66/Tom-Plymouth
Got a little 3 way man love going? Going to prom together?
conservative think tank = oxymoron.
unfortunately, as pointed out, know-nothing govenor haley of s.c. will just appoint another out of touch bagger. the good news, even many of the baggers have come to realize that trickle down economics was good for only one thing: making the super rich, richer. all these baggers talking about the economy over the last 4 years, always, conveniently, leave out the two unfunded wars (nearly a Trillion??), the bush tax cuts (7-8 hundred billion??) and the give away to big pharma (not sure, but .5 Trillion?) - and they have the nerve to call dems big spenders for things like school lunches, clean air, clean water, etc. (a fraction of what baggers have spent), perhaps comedy is their best career move - well then again, baggers tend to not be very good at that either - other than trump, of course.
Sorry, Arthur 66 and ProBusiness, but DeMint, Cheney, Wolfson, Bush, Rove, and that ilk are the ones who brought us your list. Get a clue!
Retreeeaaaaat!
Does anyone really believe that he voluntarily gave up a senate seat to head an organization? I sure don't. Something else is going on here.
Except for the fact that with one @sshole leaving another @sshole will appoint a new @sshole. They should have to hold a new election 90 days after the resignation becomes effective, the seat should remain empty until they do, and at least let the people of South Carolina choose their @sshole. Demint or any politician should be fined one years pay for leaving office voluntarily the only excpetion should be health reasons and death.
It's a shame the Democrats couldn't come up with someone better - he wouldn't have had to quit, he would have been voted out.
Feisty Redhead Roselle, IL
About as much as an STD!
Nothing like a true life experience is there, Fisty?????
Tea Potty is dying faster than expected.
I will have a MINT to celebrate. Good riddance to bad deMint.
It's a shame the Democrats couldn't have come up with someone better - DeMint wouldn't have had to quit, he would have been voted out. Same goes for the entire congress. (Which party ran the most winners?)
The libs are out in full tolerance again today, wait they are only tolerant of people that think exactly has them.
Sorry!
He realized he's wasting his time....The "takers" outnumber the "makers" now.....
I bet the Obama-phone give-away was great for votes....Cause cell phones are apparently a "right" now.
oneiron,
"Got a little 3 way man love going? Going to prom together?"
aren't you all for that?
I guess you missed all the libs sucking each other off and pointed out three others that don't think exactly as you do to make fun. Again weird!
Getting while the getting is good. He's following his GNOP instincts and acting for his own benefit. Chasing the power and money because he sees the light at the end of his career and it's an oncoming train.
Rats like him don't give up power and money without the promise of more power and money ahead. I'm sure we've not heard the last of him and none of it will be good.
You and your party have yet to comprehend the pile of fecal matter you've jumped into with both feet. You lost the election, you're about to lose the war, and what will be left will never wash off your shoes.
Run, Forrest........run...........
Oh MY!
Aren't you an original one?
Did you think that up all by yourself or have to call a lifeline? Come on.. be honest, you had help didn't ya? lol
So Rick, what does winning the war mean for you? Socialism, communism, what?
If winning the war means more Government spending and less liberty for the individual? How long is that going to last?
I mean we already know that Medicare will be bankrupt in less than 10 years and Social security will be bankrupt in 20 years. and we have added Obamacare to that, and its priced has tripled in 2-3 and has even been implemented yet.
ProBusiness,
After reading that post, it's clear that the Pinocchio nose belongs on you. You can't possible have written those words with a straight face (no pun intended). Unless you're as ready for the asylum as DeMint.
ya one less dim wit
Good riddance....
The middle class can breathe easier with this dim wit out of the picture...
Now elect forward thinking folks...
Let's see, one Democrat won one presidential election, and thus has this great mandate from the people to do whatever he wants. Yet, the GOP convincingly won 242 House seats form across the entire country(to the Dems 193), but, according the libs, the party is dying and must bow to the wishes of Emperor Obama. Ahhh, the density of the liberal mind is astonishing!
I'm glad to see him go. The big question is why leave so abruptly? What did Jimmy get caught doing? I guess we will find out once he is gone.
Feisty:
Probably won't be the standard sex scandal. This pervert will go balls in when it comes to "kink" and put David Vitter to shame... lol
Actually Feisty, I think it has something to do with Roopies n Big Bird, but that's just what I heard. >:o):
OK Bad Dog
Much Love All,
Da Pup
>:o):
AG99, #1.23- EXACTLY! That's the first thing that occurred to me. Jeezum-Crow, what's the hurry, Bud? Now the American People are suppose to honor the other side of the "contract" and hereafter pay him for the rest of his life for this blatant, without cause, breach of contract? For some kind of psuedo-self-sanctified Conflict of Interest? He should be the first "Official" Spending Cut!
Put it all on record now and retroactively, if not now, go back and get our money for ALL that breached-contract Salary and HealthCare back from him and stop any future payments to him, at that time. GET HIS SALARY AND HEALTHCARE FROM HIS NEW CONTRACT WITH HIS NEW BOSSES, THE HERITAGE POLICY CENTER!
yeh, Fisty ...I had help....Your vile filthy POSTS. You can dish it out but you cannot TAKE it can you??? Vicious Witch!!!
Strong ideas? From a Tea Bagger? Now that's rich...
probusiness: Your selective facts, as usual, are based on Obama's inability to fix in 4 years what the GOP broke in 8. Wait another 4 years.
spider: the problem the GOP has is that it appeals only to America-haters, the old, and Fox News audiences. And the old are dying off. America is out-growing the GOP.
I've said this before, and it was clear in listening to Rush yesterday bemoaning the direction that America is taking: old conservatives die bitter and convinced the country is going to Hell; old liberals die proud and convinced we are on the right track. That has been true for the last 300 years, and I imagine it will be true for the next 300. That's why liberals are so nice, and conservatives are so mean.
Let me see, how can I say this.....YIPPEEEEEEE!!!!!! One more GOP crackpot done. Now, next order of business........Eric Cantor, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham to start. Those 3 putzes need jobs elsewhere!
hey spider, most convenient of you to leave out the relevant facts: (1) due to bagger redistricting, too many republicans were in safe seats, (2) dems gained a number of seats in the house, and (3) total votes cast for the house show a clear dem win, by over 2,000,000 votes - so, it seems you don't know the meaning of the word "convincing" unless you live in "bizarro" world.
Tom in Plymouth: The libs are out in full tolerance again today, wait they are only tolerant of people that think exactly has them"
Cry me a river, Tom! Evidently, Demint could not "tolerate" his job after President Obama was reelected--so he ran away--and abandoned his beloved Republican constituents, didn't he? He refused to take any "personal responsibilty" to do the job for which he was elected. He didn't "tolerate" his own Republican constituents who elected him, did he?
And you label the "libs" "intolerant?" Boo hoo hoo!
DeMint.....what a putz......
I am not sure about that, see
Amendment 17, clause 2
When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.
It will not make much difference in SC.
Yahoo!!!! Christmas early for sure. Now if we can only get a few more of those "Demented" types out of Washington, things might even return to normal. He was and is a complete dip.
Buh bye Jimmy, see you in hell.
So long loser. Now if we can get him to take Issa, Graham and McCain with him maybe we can get something done in Congress.
Is he going to the Heritage Foundation, the very place that invented the idea of the Individual Mandate for health insurance and health insurance exchange?? Heritage praised them when Romney included them in MA's Romneycare....
When they show up in Obamacare, DeMint condemned them....
@ Lunarpup,
I heard he got caught with Michelle Bachmann's husband. They claim that they were just tyring to pray the gay away but DeMint was the only one on his knees.
Awww, that's just awful. A tea party patriot abandons ship in order to go surround himself with like-thinking kooks. He might as well go work for Breitbart or Drudge. I wonder if Governor Haley will avail herself of Demint's seat?
He saw the future of the TP and it didnt look good.
Why....I always knew the Michelle's husband was gay...
noncoms,
There are a lot of great posts today, but this is definitely one of the best. Very perceptive, and so true.
Trythison: "yeh, Fisty ...I had help....Your vile filthy POSTS. You can dish it out but you cannot TAKE it can you??? Vicious Witch!!!
Tom in Plymouth--try THAT on for "conservative tolerance!" Yikes!!! Yep trythison is right--conservatives can dish it out--but they cannot TAKE it, can they?!
Just like your saint Demint! FORWARD!!!
@ ProBusiness,
Reagan National budgetary deficit upon white house exit 1988.......$550 billion
Bush1 National budgetary deficit upon white house exit 1992..........$385 billion
Clinton National budgetary deficit upon white house exit 2000........ZERO
After line item veto of Coporate tax cuts within provisions 15-34 of Newt's HR 2014 Balanced Budget Act on 8-11-97 thereby halting Coporate tax cuts.
Bush2 National budgetary deficit upon white house exit 2008...........$1.8 trillion
Obama National Budgetary deficit after 4 years in White House 2012.....$1.2 trillion.
Case closed............
arch - and where were you in 2010 when the votes went the exact opposite way?
I am sure you were defending the Repubs for doing exactly what the voters wanted them to do, like you are doing now?
Three quick questions for everybody,
1. if 50% currently pay NO federal income taxes, does it seem strange that 60% want others (top 2%) to pay even more INCOME taxes?
2. If close to 100% pay all other federal taxes, does it seem strange that 90% or so don't want those taxes raised?
3. If in the next 4 years unemployed doesn't go down and 55-60% don't pay Federal Income taxes, do you think you could 70% to say the other 30% need to pay more taxes?
Waterloo strategy
Obama stays and DeMint flees that is called irony, Forest Gump! Another GOP politician following the example of Sarah Palin, running from their constituents and responsibilites for a lobbyist's paycheck.
That said, today brings more glad tidings, I read Karl Rove has been banished from Fox by Roger Ailes for his election night tantrum. Both he and Dick Morris are being shelved for their often inaccurate and hyperpartisan rants. Now they only need to get rid of Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin and Fox will only have a dozen fanatical c
ontributorstea partiers on air. Also saw that R. Gov. Jan Brewer is punching reporters who dare to question her about her backward stances on climate change. Hopefully Arizona will retire Brewer next campaign.
A good day to be a liberal.
Arthur66: "I guess when failed Senator Harry Reid hasn't put a budget to the floor in 1400 days, it gets rather frustrating."
What's wrong with Harry Reid? He's a member of the LDS. He has sponsored legislation that increased the value of his own property and the property of close supporters. He spent money from his campaign for private use. He made racist remarks about Obama. He made allegations about Romney's tax returns that were not true.
Sounds like the perfect Tea Bagger to me.
@noncoms... did you ever think about the 'greatest generation' dying out? My father served in WWII on a destroyer, now 88 years old, was a high school teacher... is just disgusted with what's been going on.. We're headded for a train wreck and the younger generation can't even see it... and so yeah to your point..
Conservative Think Tank? Kinda like Military Intelligence, both are Oxymorons. Are these the people who think that the earth is 3000 years old, raped women will themselves into not being pregnant and deficits don't matter?
Oh my - looks like all the righties ammunition against a tax hike is drying up! From the Huffington Post:
On Tuesday, FedEx Chairman and CEO Fred Smith, an adviser to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, said that the notion that tax hikes on the richest Americans would kill jobs was simply "mythology."
And on Monday, a gathering of the nation's top defense executives took a surprising turn when they endorsed tax rate increases on the wealthy and cuts of up to $150 billion to the Pentagon's budget. Top executives from Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney, TASC and RTI International Metals appeared at the National Press Club at an event organized by the Aerospace Industries Association, the top defense contractor lobbyist.
David Langstaff, CEO of TASC, said that the executives were speaking out because so far leaders of the defense industry were "talking a good game, but are still unwilling to park short-term self-interest." After the event, he told a defense reporter for Politico that tax rates need to go up.
“In the near term, [income tax rates] need to go up some,” Langstaff said. "This is a fairness issue -- there needs to be recognition that we’re not collecting enough revenue. In the last decade we’ve fought two wars without raising taxes. So I think it does need to go up.”
David Hess, head of Pratt & Whitney, said his parent company, United Technologies Corp, believed personal income tax rates should be on the table; Dawne Hickton, CEO of RTI, said he would back a rate hike if it led to a deal.
JH - see- the real 2%ers don't care about a tax hike. They actually want to do the RIGHT thing!
Are Arthur66 and ProBusiness one and the same person, almost identical posts and then flattery from Arthur to ProBusiness for such a good post. Is this just scam advertising and using up space to reiterate talking points. Glad to see him leaving the Senate but sorry he will have so much influence at the Heritage Foundation. The Tea Partiers needed to go home and let the real republicans come back to office. The Tea Partiers are about 200 years behind the times and want to keep the women barefoot and pregnant; no jobs, no birth control. Such male chauvinists they are!
More good news: DeMint is asking Haley to appoint Rep Tim Scott to his seat, removing a Teabagger from the House!
The "Heritage Foundation" makes me think of an exclusive "gentleman's" club down south about the time when "colored people" were free labor, women were a husband's property and rich white guys ran the country.
I think Demint is not conceding defeat. He's just leaving the battle in his "escape pod" to go back to headquarters and help plot a new strategy. He doesn't want stick around to be on the Congressional chopping block in 2014.
The problem for them is they spent a record fortune and only got about 47% of the vote for the investment.
The way I see it, based on my experience, about 2-3 white people out of every ten I meet are hateful racists. Ok, that makes up about 25% of their base. A larger percentage (but overlapping) are Conservative Christian Xenophobes who still think Obama is an anti Christian Muslim.
Then there's the smallest percentage of wealthy oligarchs looking to protect their interests. Still not enough base to win.
The Republicans decided to join forces with the angry, anti big government Tea Party faction to get more votes. The logic was "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". Which is ironic because this is an old Arabic proverb.
Unfortunately, the extremists that infiltrated the Tea Party repelled most of the Republican moderates dooming the party to an extreme conservative agenda.
They probably think they just need to crank up Karl Rove's propaganda machine to 11. Judging from his on-air meltdown, I'm sure Karl was already maxed out.
Maybe all they need is to get another 6% to watch Fox News. You can always fool some of the people some of the time.
Considering some of the Fox on air talent is questioning if blind loyalty to the gig is worth compromising basic journalist ethics:
it may be harder than ever to "pull the wool over the viewers eyes" in the future. No Megyn, it's not real.
I'm just glad the majority of the American public are good, tolerant people that are smart, well informed and not easily fooled by people that think they are smarter than everyone else.
Democracy prevails.
One source calling the DeMint retirement a way to leave the obstructionism - the obstructionism of the Senate. Quoting source:
True, the Senate has not passed a budget, but are they forgetting about the "off the books" wars?
Maxwell but you are supposed to be the party of tolerance.
I am not crying, I am educating people that libs are hypocrites and you proved my point thank you.
I don't want to say "conservative think tank" = oxymoron. I want to say something really, really funny but I can't think of what a conservative think tank would think !! Someone, help!!
Inviting teabaggers to a battle of ideas is like inviting snails to race at the Bonneville salt flats.
And where was "Obamacare" created? What organization originally created the ACA back in the 1980's?
Gee... I can't seem to remember. Who did that again? Hmmmm... let me ask Bob Dole, the REPUBLICAN who championed it.
Oh ya... that's right. The HERITAGE FOUNDATION created the ACA.
And where is DeMint going now? Oh... look at that. He is going to lead the HERITAGE FOUNDATION.
It's like poetic justice... pure, delicious, poetic justice. You Republicans must be so proud of the Heritage Foundation and what they have accomplished. Just remember who to send your "Thank you" cards to.
The above statement shows that these right wingers don't know what they are talking about when they bad mouth President Obama.
Let's see, who knows who was President of the United States during years of 1982, 1983, and 1984?
Year Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
1982 8.6 8.9 9.0 9.3 9.4 9.6 9.8 9.8 10.1 10.4 10.8 10.8
Year Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
1983 10.4 10.4 10.3 10.2 10.1 10.1 9.4 9.5 9.2 8.8 8.5 8.3
1984 8.0 7.8 7.8 7.7 7.4 7.2 7.5 7.5 7.3 7.4 7.2 7.3
or Rick, maybe its like inviting liberals to a battle of math?
I mean people are obviously crazy to think borrowing $4 for every $10 you spend is crazy.
Oh and FHA just realized it lost a trillion dollars.
To Arthur66..........you just proved that most of the deficit was created by the Bush Aministration. Yous said $16 trillion deficit now. last 4 years a trillion dollars each year equals 4 trillion. Clinton left us with a surplus. So let's give you the advantage and say the deficit was zero when Clinton left. now let's do the math
$16 trillion(deficit today) - $4 trillion( 1 trillion a year for 4 years under Obama) = $12 trillion( the amount of deficit when Obama took office)
I am just repeating the figures you put out. Were you taught math by Paul 'The Numbersman I Can't Even Report My Income correctly' Ryan or Mitt 'The Scam Artist' Romney?
Spider: Obama won the nationwide election, the Democrats held on to the Senate on statewide voting levels. The Republicans held on to a House where the districts were severely gerrymandered to maintain there control. Even so they lost ground. If the districts had been the same as 2010 the House would be even closer if not in Democrat control. That's hardly a ringing endorsement of the Republican position.
Pro Business... Lets analyze your list.
Point 1) The debt incurred during Obama's first term is primarily due to FINALLY putting the cost of Afghanistan and Iraq on the books (GWB borrowed from China to fund the wars... first time in US history we didn't raise taxes to fund war), GWB's Medicare part D (unpaid for prescription drug benefit), GWB's TARP, Obama's Recovery Act (stimulus effort which prevented a second depression) and, last but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST, the 2001 & 2003 Tax cuts that Obama/Congress continued in 2009. Your understanding of the debt issue is both facile and incomplete.
Point 2) True that the unemployment rate is ~8% but when Obama stepped into office we were losing jobs (200K/month) for the entire first year of his presidency due to the WORST financial crisis since the Great Depression. If you look at the Bureau for Labor Statistics chart (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000) it shows that unemployment has steadily decreased since the peak in 2010. In fact, this drop in unemployment was accomplished without ANY help and plenty of obstructionism from the 112th congress. Imagine what would have been possible if the House was focused on improving unemployment instead of obstructing POTUS, focusing on abortion limitations and fighting ACA.
Point 3) GDP is driven by consumption therefore if the engine of the economy (aka middle and working class) is hamstrung (stagnant wages, unemployment, etc.) you would expect GDP growth to be nil. This chart from the Treasury department shows (http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/Documents/20120502_EconomicGrowth.pdf) that growth has been positive since 2010, once again without ANY help from the 112th congress.
Point 4) WRONG, this recovery is better than the recovery from the Great Depression. True, if you are myopic, and only look at modern recessions which were caused by much less severe crises. Once again, facile and incomplete understanding of the issue at hand.
Point 5) labor participation rate also includes those who retire (aka baby boomers), those unemployed folks who decide to got to school to improve their credentials (and WILL return to the labor force) and those who are disabled who will not. The labor participation argument is typically used by conservatives to make the unemployment numbers seems more dire. This is a red herring argument which deflects from explaining why the situation is occurring.
Point 6) Considering that this is the WORST recession since the Great Depression big surprise here especially when you consider that the manufacturing base has been decimated in this country due to corporations outsourcing manufacturing to slave labor countries (China, India, Taiwan, Mexico, etc.).
Point 7 & 8) The number of Welfare and food stamp recipients has grown as a cause of the Great Recession not because of any one president. Under GWB these numbers increased more than under Obama. Granted Obama has only had his one term. The number of food stamp recipients DECLINED in October 2012 by nearly 44K... which can be directly attributed to the improving job market.
These are important issues to discuss and I think it would be helpful for people to FULLY understand them rather than reading/listening to one or two sources in order to make a conclusion.
depraw, You are lying or truly informed.
If Clinton had a surplus (Which he didn't , I wish he did though) then are national debt would have gone down. Guess what it didn't because they borrowed money from SS and other retirement plans, to pretend to have a balanced budget.
Which would be me saying I mad 50K spent 60K, borrowed 10K from a credit card and said I had a balanced my budget for the year. Yes, I did, but my debt increased. Hence no surplus!
Always have to laugh at the party of 'inclusion' think that the worst insult they can hurl at someone is to insinuate that they are gay. Thank goodness gays never feel used for their vote. lol
Hope the door hits him on the way out!
It (Health Care) will be their (DeMint's) Waterloo........................LMFAO.
Beverly in Chicago re-# 1.49, "it took the words right out of your mouth"? You're assuming that someone only leaves office because of a pending scandal,eh? Don't look now but your "Chi-town Machine Democrap" slip is showing! That's how the Democrat's roll in your neck of the woods, Jackson Jr., and pretty soon Beavers, too! You must be real proud that a convicted sex offender that was pardoned by Bill "Bildo" Clinton is on the ballot for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s seat! If Mel Reynolds was a Republican he'd still be in jail, and rightly so. If it makes you feel better to have a "DeMint fantasy scandle" in your head to deflect the kaos that is for real going on in Obamaland, have at it. Four more years, indeed!
I misread the headline initially and thought it said:
Maybe he thought there would be a public outcry begging him to stay? Whoops! Wrong!
What would be a good song for the moment?
Bye ... bye, bye, baby, bye bye. I won't be seeing you around. (Janis Joplin)
Happy Days are Here Again.
Another One Bites The Dust. (Queen)
WAIT! I'VE GOT IT!!!
Bring on 2014!!!
Let's see. Another election in 2016. Long enough for the followers to forget and the worshipers to make him a king. De Mint will run for president in 2016. He will be the Mitt Romney of the south. Too bad we don't revise elections and the ability, of a person, to make a career out of politics.
My feelings are, a term in the Senate, a term in the house and a term in the White House , should be on ones resume; not a right to a quality life, bought by money from Kochs and lobbyist!
Bye Jim. See you in 2014? After you have had time, to remove the tarnish, roll a potato over the warts and reinvent yourself.
This is a double win! DeMint is out of the Senate, improving that body, and the Heritage Foundation loses all credibility by hiring him as boss.
fenderbluesjr - oh how quickly you forget. Does the name Tom DeLay ring a bell???????
Aren't we fortunate!
Tom - Plymouth-3672298
"Maxwell but you are supposed to be the party of tolerance...I am educating people that libs are hypocrites and you proved my point thank you."
Tom, you are most welcome, sir. Happy to help--In fact, allow me to prove your point again:
Demint could not "tolerate" his job after President Obama was reelected--so he ran away--and abandoned his beloved Republican constituents, didn't he? He refused to take any "personal responsibilty" to do the job for which he was elected. He didn't "tolerate" his own Republican constituents who elected him, did he?
And you label the "libs" "intolerant?" However, I for one, gratefully accept your your apology, Tom.
Gerrymandering goes both ways.
The stinking cesspool that is the Illinois Legislature (supermajority Dem, by the way) made sure that redistricting would kill most any Republican chances for election in their races - either statewide or federal. The state of Illinois (otherwise known as Madiganistan, after the house speaker who has ruled for almost 30 years) is an absolute mess with no hope of recovery as it stands now.
"There is also the broader question of who, among the 45 Senate Republicans, will seize the mantle of conservative leadership." More like the torchecul of power. Tom- plymouth - nasty mess of inaccurate generalizations you post- oh well, no hard feeelings. Here's a quiz for you. Q.) WHen is 47 per cent more than one half?
A.) in the 2012 Presidential election.
The REAL Truth behind DeMint's decision to head the "heritage foundation"??!!?? DeMint is convinced there wil be a "new succession" of states and this Amoral Witless Scoundrel will be the head of the new civil war sucession party Much like Jefferson Davis in 1861. DeMint's Pompous Grea'Great Grand Daddy was one of the Idiot Plantation and Slave Owner Clowns who led the AnteBellum South into a war against the Mighty North; leading the south into "Ruin-Nation" This individual is yet another integral piece of the SEWAGE Stinking and Fouling Up CrapitalHill; BUT, Have Faith!!, With the PB Competence Enema, ALL that politico Sewage will be Flushed out and Off of CrapitalHill, which will once again be Capital Hill with skilled and Talented Legislators.
DeMint is Demented and the sooner this guy is IN PRISON the less of a public danger will exist in America Today. Ohhhhh and "Pro-Business" did you graduate from primary school?? Can You read BECAUSE If you can, you will RECALL what Nikita Kruschev said: "We Will Bury You" and the Communist BOSSES Proudly Exclaimed "The Soviet Union IS The SEAT of Communism!!"....Where Are Those @$$H0LE$ And The "Mighty Soviet Union" Now?? So one must must conclude One step further and RECALL what KingGeorge TheVacuum Brained stated during his Notoriously Shameful Shrubber Reign 2001-2008; 'Aaaooww hell, Aawwmm' aah' freeemrkt' gaiuy". Yea' Pro Boner, ConArtist conducted American freeMarket CrookControlled, Runaway Self Destructing War Waging Capitalism IS NOT FREE; Like The Yellow Submarine VacuumBeast, It finally Consumes itself into SelfDestruction, Moron. Think Back to the PresReagan era, EVERYONE Had jobs and there was Plenty of Money for Public infrastructure repair, schools, hospitals and Many Many MANY important parts of America. Then came RayGun and THE EVIL RICH who have funneled ALL Of America's Wealth into their Own Pockets and secret numbered OffShore Holding Banks Like Your Boy MittTaxPittanceRommel. And gas was .95Cents P/Gallon. NOW with the RollOver Crapital Hill Crooks, We have $4.00p/gallon And And AND!!! It Is ALL American TaxPayer Owned Crude Drilling Fields and Panels which are "awarded" to your boys the seven sisters...And YOUR BOY DeMint Is one of the RollOver political WH0RE$ who support These con Artist "business"men" We NEED A Cleansing, DeMint is a decent start.
Makes me think of the secessionist ignorance. Awesome that there is now a petition on the White House website that anyone who wants to secede should be deported. Seriously, why should they get any land, especially since those red states in the south pay less into the federal government then they receive? They should just take their sorry arses and leave! Go now and sign on to that petition!
But I wish I could be happier about DeMint's departure. As already noted above, he will be replaced with another crazy. We must get rid of FAUX Noise, gerrymandering, etc. before we can end the Black Helicopter crap we just saw in the Senate vote against the UN treaty for the disabled.
Ohio Teapublicans are still waging the War on Women with the "heartbeat" abortion legislation, Ohio and Wisconsin still trying to suppress the vote as well as Pennsylvania trying to change winner take all to divvy up electoral votes in that state. Don't under estimate these diabolical Teapublicans and non-stop acts of treason.
Even as Dick Army leaves the Koch funded astro-turf FreedomWorks so he can enrich himself with $8 million, Jim DeMint joins the Heritage Foundation. As Jon Huntsman said, the GOP has become a bunch of greedy douchbags going after gigs on FAUX Noise, books they buy up and give away to make it appear they are selling, etc. that creates a low bar to run for POTUS. DeMint joining a so-called Think Tank -- ha, no thinking, just another mouthpiece of the Republican Party like FAUX Noise -- is just another example.
And let's add home-school Black Helicopter Mike Lee of Utah to the huge list of Teapublican crazies who remain in Congress with only one ignorant purpose to destroy government completely in favor of anarchy and a Race to the Bottom for every man, woman, and child. Thank goodness Romney the Mormon Plutocrat was defeated -- we just missed that bullet my friends!
When Mike Lee, Michelle Bachmann, Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, etc. are all gone from Congress, along with governors like Rick Scott, John Kasich, Scott Walker, etc. -- Then it will be a better world. We have a lot of work still yet to do...
Six months ago here in South Carolina, the Lieutenant Governor (under an ethics cloud since before his inauguration) resigned. He was replaced by Glenn McConnell, the President Protemp of the Senate, who is well known for his designs on the Governor's mansion. Many were surprised that he would take the Lt. position because it usually dooms the gubenatorial aspriations of the occupant of the office.
Now everything makes sense. Haley has to stand for election in 2014. She will appoint a place holder (maybe her Chief of Staff?), and then run for DeMint's seat instead of running for reelection herself. At some point before the special election, she will resign her office so that McConnell can be Governor. It's a big Win-Win-Win for everyone except the people of South Carolina, who once again get the shaft instead of the gold mine.
I haven't read all 124 comments yet, only the first couple, but has anyone else wondered why he just now is announcing this (other than the one comment wondering what scandal he's trying to avoid) instead of doing it before the election. And why a nearly two year appointment before the special election for the remaining two years of his term? The special election should be held as soon as possible in 2013, not 2014. Haley will simply replace him with another TP, just like DeMint and her.
Jim DeMint hitched his wagon to the Tea Party. He thought it was the vanguard of a glorious new GOPeaParty political dynasty.
But, as the recent election revealed, the Tea Party is mostly a bunch of anti-science, ethnocentric, superstitious, misogynistic, stubborn, old, white, boys who are going nowhere fast.
DeMint, at least, is among the lead rats leaping from the GOPeaParty ship.
jim demint is just a penis with ears.
Why do people continually type succession" when they mean secession? They surely don't mean for the states to succeed from the union, do they?
I am thrilled with his decision to leave the Senate - but fear he will become the next Grover Norquist and begin muscling and threatening remaining GOP representatives with TeaParty retaliation and propaganda ensuring that just like Senator Lugar and others, the Tea Party will "take them out". I guess in that example it worked out pretty well, because although Mourdock took out Lugar, he didn't go far!
DeMint's leaving the Senate will improve the Senate. Hooray!
DeMint's joining the Heritage Foundation will degrade the Heritage Foundation. Hooray!
Hooray's all around. Hooray!
Depraw,
Do you understand that there is a difference between deficit and debt? If not, please look up the two words and do your math again. You are making your side look pretty silly.
First and MOST important, howdy FiestyRedhead... :)
To MKM, I believe you have good points, and knowing SC, probably accurate. Having lived here for 18 years, it has become very clear to me (happily) that it is no longer the "OMG red state" it was 20 years ago. PHEW... during the last 2 Presidential races, this state was far more "blue" than anyone thought/liked/wanted, including DeMint. I have wanted him gone for a long time, if for no other reason than his insane fanatical behavior, very unattractive.
While out and about on Monday, I got into a chat with my Verizon rep (getting a new cell), and we talked about politics a bit. He said DeMint ws leaving, but I was so stunned I thought I was just daydreaming. Those who are devoted tea baggers are sad to see him go, but those of us who ACTUALLY LIVE here and realize this isn't the early 1900s are practically screaming with joy. And, before the majority carries on here about those of us who want DeMint and his cohorts gone are unemployed, hispanic/black/something-other-than white, waiting for handouts, lazy, nice try. I have worked for 40 years, always employed, as white as they come, and think the crazy rightwingers have actually figured out that this state will move forward with or without them. If DeMint thinks he can do better at Heritage, fine. At least he will have NO hand in his radical policies here. If Gov. Haley decides to run for his seat, she may or may not get it. I dont much care for her, but at least, on the surface, she is not as wingnutty as DeMint...
The whole state of SC has changed, moved along, and many live here now from the North, myself included. Many, many of us find this "old south/plantation mentality" more than a little offensive and are speaking up and very loudly. So much for the good ol boy network... :)
Word is that Governor Nikki Haley will appoint Congressman Tim Scott to the Senate.
This must drive the Bob Byrd/Keith Judd wing of the Democrat party NUTS.
Clinton balanced the budget and left America with a surplus over eight years. Bush exploded the deficit over eight years. So whose party is it that's got the arithmatic problem?
South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, one of the original 13 Republican Obstructionists who met on January 20, 2009 while President Obama was being inaugurated, and more or less took out an oath to obstruct, sabotage, and undermine the U.S. Economy, and business of America:
On January 20, 2009 Republican Leaders in Congress plotted to sabotage and undermine U.S. Economy during President Obama's Inauguration:

much like climate change denial or creationism, you can spout this until you are blue in the face and yet it isn't any more true.
I know that works on your side of the aisle, but my side actually owns shoes and can read.
Just one less Tea ReTarded Looney to deal with, this makes my day !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind of like when Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee asked NASA officials where on Mars astronauts left the flag?
This news is worth an Austin Powers style - "Yeah Baby!"
Wow, MJ...really???? That's the best you got? All lies and half truths, so transparent they're not really even worth responding to. Do you really believe this tripe you're spreading? Or just hoping everyone is as stupid as the right and will believ it...pitiful...how old are you, son?
Sorry buddy, all you did was illegally edit a quote...most everyone here except corrupt republicans know what I posted about the 13 Obstructionists is correct and true: You are full of @!$%#!
On January 20, 2009 Republican Leaders in Congress literally plotted to sabotage and undermine U.S. Economy during President Obama's Inauguration.
In Robert Draper's book, "Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives" Draper wrote that during a four hour, "invitation only" meeting with GOP Hate-Propaganda Minister, Frank Luntz, the below listed Senior GOP Law Writers literally plotted to sabotage, undermine and destroy America's Economy.
An interesting point- President Obama has already outlasted 3 of the 12 miscrreants who plotted against him.
It's so nice seeing the Looney go, I'm having so much fun kicking the dirtbags when they're down !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hannity would get upset if we hung him with a new rope.
kICK 'EM WHEN THEY'RE up
kick 'em when they're DOWN
kick 'em when they're UP
KICK 'EM ALL AROUND
I also find it amusing how repugnicans rail about debt and yet look at how many in the last 5 years quit mid-term, giving the taxpayers and voters, the finger and forcing another expensive election. Palin, Ensign, Craig, DeMint,Sanford, the list goes on. I hope we can soon ad DesJarlais to the list.
*waves to MaineBound*
Hope you had a fantabulous Turkey-Day! ☺
Do not underestimate the Heritage Foundation. If it is one lesson from 2012, the richest
people are Republicans and they love to throw money at propaganda from the spin
master’s of the WEB.
Tom - Plymouth-3672298
The latter, I think.
The national debt did start decreasing in the early '90s according to this chart:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Publicly_Held_Federal_Debt_1790-2009.png
Then it started going back up after Bush got into office and started wrecking the economy, which is a job that the Tea Party hopes to finish.
uhh.. an oxymoron? Maybe a conservative propaganda tank?
Code for "we're paying him a ton of money and he has the keys to the chamber". No way I've seen any policy ideas translate to action... more like inaction.
And what's with these f@#ks leaving in the middle of their term? They wanted the job. The people elected them. Then they leave for more money and have no regrets on how much that move costs tax payers. Ahhh, such dedication!
Good riddance you clod.
What get’s to me is how the Conservative Right can fear the
Muslim religion and their conservative beliefs and interpretation of the Koran. Beliefs that so many of them feel should be
used to control and govern the countries they live in.
Yet the Heritage Foundation advocates that the religious
beliefs of their interpretation of the Bible should be used to control and govern
the USA.
It is the old kettle calling pot black me thinks. Can they not see that?
Heritage Foundation - Before DeMint known as a think tank.
Heritage Foundation - During DeMint tenure known as a stink tank.
Heritage Foundation - After DeMint known as "The Out House, that still stinks".
depraw,
The $16 trillion debt you speak about is American citizens debt to creditors. The US Government (Bush or Obama administrations) have NO Consitutional authority to ban/prohibit citizens from buying products and accruing debt from creditors. It's the citizens sole to decision to purchase and owe.
The National Budgetary deficit (presently at $1.2 trillion) IS reflective of US Government spending. US Governmnt spending has been much higher under Republican Presidential adminstrations, as reflected in the national budgetary deficit historical data.
Know what you're taling about before opening your mouth..............or your foot may enter mouth.
I am happy to see him go but unfortunately for America DeMints exit signals something far more nefarious than his wanting to head the Heritage Foundation. He is leaving not for a bigger paycheck sitting around thinking up ways to undermine the federal government, which is what conservative think tanks do. DeMint is leaving to become the future president of the new confederacy. The wingnuts have been patiently and methodically infitrating every aspect of our lives in preparation for the second coming. Read the article about the Cadet leaving West Point due to the take over of our military by fundamentalist christians, look into the Dominion Group who runs for-profit prisons, do some research into just who the heads of Monsanto and BPI (pink slime) are and why they claim to be doing "gods work". This is all part of C Peter Wagner's grand plan to hold "dominion" over the entire world. All of these wingnuts are working together and in their twisted little minds their time is running out. James Watt, Reagans Secretary of the Interior, summed it up, "we do not need to concern ourselves with saving the environment, the second coming is at hand."
If you hear of something happening around the globe that just sounds too evil to be real then you need to look no further than the New Apostolic Reformation, the group of religious fanatics that call themselves the Family who have taken control of our a large portion or our corporations, our military, our food supply, our water, our government and our education system.
And do people still believe the Heritage Foundation is neutral in their position? Lunacy...
"jim demint is just a penis with ears."
Well Gee Smitty that is being mighty unfair to the penis.
Fascinating! A feeding frenzy erupting in the House, and now this.
Let's hope it's the first of many Republican defecations... I mean, defections.
The cons put the worst pres in history(W the decider,WMD)in office an they drained the treasury
of trillions. Now the money has to be put back in to keep the country a float. The 2% has flourished
an the cons are bitching about everything, good riddance to old jim
They're like rats deserting a sinking ship. DeMint is a scary little man with crazy, far right ideas so I guess heading the Heritage Foundation is a logical move for him. Heritage Foundation - Conservative Think Tank...Can you say oxymoron?
Isn't it a shame there is so much animosity between the right and the left in this discussion? Sounds like congress. Unfortunately, we can continue to blame each other, the republicans, the democrats, former presidents, former congresses, the current president but the fact is nothing is going to change until we get a constitutional amendment on term limits. Political hacks like Mitch McConnell, Harry Reid and their associates in both houses will continue to do what's necessary to get re-elected instead of what's best for the country. Without term limits we will continue to have the same discussion in congress as we do here.
Personally I believe the rebublicans are obstructionists and the tea party has no right to tell me how I should live my personal life or what I should believe in, anybody should be able to marry anyone, we need to better control handguns in the large cities regardless of how big or powerful the NRA lobby is, dividend taxes should not change, hedgefund profits should be taxed as regular income and not treated the same as a regular dividend, a unions ability to form a union should be restricted as it is today, Obama is an amateur, Romney probably would have been as bad as Obama but we never found out what he really believed in, the tax structure should be simplified and applied fairly to everyone, GM should have gone through bankruptcy like all the other companies who have put themselves in a poor financial position, banks should only lend money for housing to people who can reasonably repay the loan and our country must get itself in a position where we don't spend more than we take in.
This is the buffet table set up by Fox "News", and these are of course the only options open to conservatives because they're the only options given to you by the idiots who run that circus tent. Winning to me means that the Tea Party Bull@!$%# Bomb went off in y'alls own face.
Whose individual liberty is jeopardized? You people have like twenty words in your vocabulary, and you drop them in front of every perceived non-existent threat because cowering sheep will believe anything, so long as it aligns with the main message from the right. Seriously... define exactly how it is that your individual liberty is going to be jeopardized?
You guys always claim to "already know" everything, just like you all "knew" that Romney was going to beat Obama in a landslide. Just like you "knew" the American people would side with you on union busting. Just like you "knew" women would accept their bodies being regulated by conservative men. Like you "knew" that Obamacare would be rejected. What do Republicans really know anyway?
If Medicare hasn't gone bankrupt over the past four decades as I have listened to Republicans constantly chanting this same lame message, why is it so much more doomed now? Truth is, it's not. Now if you woke up tomorrow and it was suddenly 2024, you might have a point. But as in the past, we have time to make changes and adjustments. But you do NOT KNOW that Medicare will be bankrupt in less than 10 years, because Medicare has allegedly been going bankrupt for decades. Somehow it always outlasts the fear mongers from the right.
Once again the great seers of the Republican Party dropping horse apples out of their mouths.
Boy, it's a good thing you didn't step in that. Relax Chicken Little. The sky, regardless of what Fox "News" says, is not falling. Obamacare will end up being a very good thing after all the panic and fear fall away.
The best news of the day.
I don't know what to make of this. DeMint may realize that after failing for the last several years, and doing nothing but promote Obama, he is useless! A GOP HOUSE member has more clout then him! Could be money... could be a bastard baby..... could be pictures.... could be a male prostitute. hmmm...
Tom in plymouth.......you so smart .......really....I am just a dumb country boy. So, maybe you could help me with a few things.....what is escape velocity and what is it's value? What is the relationship between the side opposite and the hypotenuse in a right triangle called in trigonometry? what is absolute zero?.....not in degrees, but in what physical changes happen when material is subjected to it? What is chaos theory and who developed it? And who on earth influenced your political theory? Just a dumb country boy with a few questions. Think you may need google.....bright guy. Good luck.
Wow Too Many comments on one post.....
SPIDER----You are wrong about the make-up of the House of Representatives....
And probably everything else....
There are nowhere near 244 GOP house members or was it 242(I am not scrolling up again)?
And like someone else pointed out due to gerrymandering the Dems actually got way more votes total but still don't have a majority....Guess what we Dems are organizing the great move of 2013 so that we will break-up those falsely laid out districts....
*waves back at FeistyRedhead* Well, my T-day was quiet, peaceful and no stress anymore.. :) Hope you had a wonderful day!
I have been listening to a variety of TV stuff about Demint leaving and it occurred to me, in putting the pieces together that DeMint and Heritage may be: A) overestimating how many followers DeMint has, and how they can all band together to do their work; and B) DeMint overestimates the pull and importance Heritage really has, or ever will. I think too DeMint saw that he will get nowhere in DC anymore.. the people wont tolerate it. Sad he is such a coward to walk away from the people of SC who elected him (not me for sure, but still . . .) for some craziness that is a step below Senator just because the game ended for him because the GOP did so badly. Cowardly.
I think if 2012 elections proved nothing else, it showed that we are all FED UP and tired of the BS in Washington, right/left wing loonies (although right seems to be more in a frenzy), and no one wants anyone, DeMint or otherwise, in the GOP to force their radical ideas on the whole damn country. I think this whole thing will not quite turn out the way DeMint/Heritage think. He jumped a ship he felt was sinking for no other reason than nobody listens to his craziness or the other wingers... If his goal is to organize more of his kind to run the political table in their favor, he's drinking that Kool-Aid again. That's another ship that sailed...even here in SC.... Ask Lindsey Graham, longtime senator from SC... he's a bit nervous now because this is not such a red state as it was even 10 years ago and he is facing a tough reelection...
Oh, and for all the folks in these posts who view us in SC as backasswards, we all live in Myrtle Beach, and love tourists, STAY HOME. I moved here to get away from the cold, and bad attitudes and like it just fine. When the "tourons" get an attitude now, we just suggest they try mapquest.com next year and head for NC.....
BAD NEWS!
GOOD NEWS!
Here’s a look back at some of DeMint’s Senate highlights:
1. Stood with Akin after “legitimate rape” remarks. Following Rep. Todd Akin’s (R-MO) infamous statement that victims of “legitimate rape” can’t become pregnant, DeMint was one of the first major conservatives to stand with the Missouri congressman. DeMint even used his political action committee to donate $90,000 to Akin’s campaign and used its network to raise hundreds of thousands more. “We support Todd Akin and hope freedom-loving Americans in Missouri and around the country will join us,” DeMint’s group said.
2. Led the opposition against Obamacare. In 2009, during the height of the GOP’s opposition to health care reform, DeMint told a conference call of conservative activists that, “If we’re able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.” Ironically, DeMint once supported Mitt Romney’s health care reform in Massachusetts, the law on which Obamacare is based.
3. Wants to prevent gay or unmarried teachers from teaching in public schools. In 2010, DeMint “said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn’t be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who’s sleeping with her boyfriend — she shouldn’t be in the classroom.” During his first Senate campaign in 2004, DeMint agreed with the state party’s platform barring gay teachers from public schools, claiming that the government shouldn’t endorse certain behaviors.
4. Pushed a bill outlawing the discussion of abortion over the Internet. Last year, DeMint proposed an amendment to an unrelated bill that would have barred a woman and her doctor from discussing abortion over the internet, even if her health was at risk and tele-conferencing was the most feasible option to receive care.
5. Wants to strip all federal employees of collective bargaining rights. Though most federal employees don’t enjoy the rights and benefits of unionization, DeMint wants to take away even the few bargaining rights they currently enjoy. “I don’t believe collective bargaining has any place in government,” DeMint told ThinkProgress last year.
6. Blocked creation of the National Women’s History Museum. Along with fellow arch-conservative Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), DeMint placed a hold on a 2010 bill to sell land near the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC in order to create the National Women’s History Museum. Coburn justified their move to block the museum by noting that there already exist museums for “quilters” and “cowgirls”.
7. Likened striking Chicago teachers to “thugs” in the Middle East. Speaking at the Values Voters Summit in September 2012, DeMint blasted Chicago teachers who were on strike for a brief period earlier this year. “On my way over, I was reading another story about a distant place where thugs had put 400,000 children out in the streets,” DeMint said. “And then I realized that was a story about the Chicago teachers strike.”
8. Threatened to single-handedly shut down the Senate. In September 2010, DeMint warned his colleagues that he would place a unilateral hold on every single piece of legislation in the Senate, bringing the entire lawmaking process to a grinding halt. Despite being in the minority, DeMint threatened to only allow bills to proceed that his office had personally approved.
9. Used a failed terrorist plot to attack unions. Following the failed “underwear bomber” plot in December 2009, DeMint went on Fox News and used the episode as an opportunity to bash unions. “I am concerned, because it’s related to another issue that we’re dealing with now in the Senate,” DeMint said. “The administration is intent on unionizing and submitting our airport security to union bosses’ collective bargaining.”
10. Argued that people with pre-existing conditions got better care before Obamacare. Speaking with ThinkProgress at a Tea Party rally this year, DeMint argued that Obamacare actually hurt people with pre-existing conditions, despite that fact that it bars insurance companies from denying them care. “I can guarantee you people with pre-exisitng conditions are going to get less health care—lower quality health care—under Obamacare,” DeMint said.
11. “Willing” to cause “serious disruptions” in the economy in order to secure draconian cuts. During last year’s debt ceiling showdown, DeMint appeared on Fox Business and said that, despite the fact that not raising the debt ceiling would cause “serious disruptions,” he was “willing to do that” in order to get major cuts to social programs like Medicare and Social Security.
this is not a victory for the Democrats. People need to follow the money...
DeMint appears to be very clear why he moved. He is following the money, and with it comes power. He is moving toward media source instead of the likes of other retiring politicians. I belive Jim thinks there will be a vacume from fight in the Republican ranks. Being in the Congress, he is in a NO WIN situation. He will not move to FOX, as he probably sense a push back from some of the producers. A local or regional media position will not draw enough $ nor attention for the long term. The best position is the source of the content.
Jim Demint has enough foresight, but I do question his capability and leadership skills. Heritage Foundation cranks out much things on a daily level with tremendous long term planning.... is he the man for the job??? I am not certain.... Perhaps he is on-par with the previous counter vison from the Democrats (Howard Dean). My gut tells me no.... There are plenty of wanna be leaders in the Republican ranks, but few have the ability to reshape a fratured party. Yes, the Republican party will be fractured starting next year, because they play checkers while the White House play chess... John Bohner save much Republican asses, and these Republican rats will turn on him cometh Jan, 2013. The Republican will loose the majority of the House in approximately 6 years. Sooner if John Bohner is not elected Speaker in Jan, 2013.
Good riddance. His replacement probably won't be much better, but could hardly be any worse. DeMint is perhaps the most selfishly disingenuous member of the Senate, and that's saying something.
How so?
True that Nathan, however his replacement will be eight years less senior.
In my opinion, the winner of that title goes to Barbara Boxer.
This election has proved Tea Party is absolutely suicide for the GOP.
DeMint - good riddance to bad piggish
You mean in your minority opinion? Now that's truth that REALLY hurts doesn't it?
*Applauds wildly*
Good bye DeMint........ *waves*
This is good news, all the Tea Loonies need to Go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK arthur - YOU like him - I think he's an arrogant KOCH SUCKER...
The people on here defending this guy are amazing. The ultra far right wing of the Republican party has accomplished exactly nothing of note outside of endangering, fracturing the entire party itself....and mostly standing in the way of the government getting anything done. In other words, if you are a Republican, it would be in your own best interest to want to help this guy pack his stuff.
Tea party has no future. They are all going to go quietly in the night....
Save the environment: The hardline principles of the Tea Party aren't going anywhere. They've always been around in the form of ultra-conservatives. They will continue to be loud and divisive in their message and a substantial chunk of the American public will continue to blindly buy into their crap, regardless of whether the resulting representation is actually to their benefit and has a damn bit of relevance to the fiscal "responsibility"' and social issues that they tout.
The "T" in T-Party stands for Tyranny...
And BTW Heritage foundation is the thinktank that created the idea for the individual mandate among other things that are the basis for Obamacare(I think it is great that they attached his name on it, even better would be DemocratCare, or rename Medi-care that since it was created by the Dems and now the GOP tries to say they will "save" it even though since its inception they have tried to de-fund and destroy it) but let's not let truth muddy the waters...
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out Jimmy.
Took the words right off of my keyboard :-). Merry Christmas everybody!
Let's see, how many Teagaggers did we have in the House, 7?
1 down, 6 to go!
American Girl,
Do you know the difference between the House and the Senate? Just curious.
Another Tea ReTard bites the Dust for a Better America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
American Girl was just joking with you JC, if you are looking for mistakes look in your Mirror !!!
TO: JC in G who wrote:
Of course you're right. I got so excited there, I messed up.
No surprise there. It's the perfect place for him.
Although kind of sad to me - The Heritage Foundation used to have some great intellectual Conservative thinkers, now seems to be becoming for tied to fundemental Christian social issues and disproved, or unproven, economic theories. DeMint will only make that worse!
Maybe he will make it better by sidelining it even further into the murky reaches of the political right. They can discuss their sky fairy and their limited/limiting social agenda while at target practice with their M15s. What fun!
The American public has now seen through all the TP/"christian" right propaganda and I don't see DeMint trying to move in another direction, so I think he's going to drive them over the cliff into irrelevance and obscurity. OK by me.
With DeMint there, the Heritage Foundation will have all the credibility of worldnut.com featuring Man on Dog Santorum. It is time for the moderate Republicans who have been purged by teabaggers to set up their own institute as a place where common sense conservatives can get a voice and retake control of their party. Just think, which institute would you pay more attention to, one headed by DeMint and the baggers or one headed by Lugar, former Sen Bennet from UT, Colin Powell, Charlie Crist, David Frum and Jon Huntsman?
Given DeMints horrible record on women, no doubt he'll be trying to change the name of the organization to the Hisatage Foundation once he's in charge.

NOTE: This is not an attempt to "proselytize". Someone else opened the "Christian social issues" can of worms. This is a humble attempt to respond.
Look back 50 years... The conservative Christian element of the USA has changed very little. Day after day, year after year, election after election this country moves farther and farther LEFT. The more the country moves left, the more alienated and isolated Christians become. And let me define "Christians" as those who make effort to adhere to Biblical writings (specifically the New Testament) - all of them - free of cherry picking the best ones to suit their personal view of Scripture!
Think about what was considered "wrong" by mainstream America 50 years ago (when practiced Christianity was a much higher percentage of the general population)... Pregnancy outside of wedlock. Abortion. Gay "rights". Unmarried couples living together. Multiple divorces due to multiple failed marriages. Caring for elderly - especially your OWN parents / grandparents. Legalization of "drugs" in violation of federal law (Federal Controlled Substances Act). Something like giving illegal aliens and or their children legal resident status instead of deportation would have been passed off in a bad joke...
This nation is leaving to the annals of history things like traditional family structure (mom and dad - egg and sperm - the things that form generations of family), caring for the elderly, personal responsibility, respect for authority, and respect for personal / property / national borders.
Conservative Christians are becoming more different every day, but it is not that they are changing, it is the rest of the world that is changing...
Conservatives, instead of being represented as "mainstream", now have to fight to preserve their identity. Like forcing Christian workplaces to pay for birth control. Seriously??? Not only is it forcing these establishments to violate their interpretation of the basis of their faith, it is also the government getting involved with churches to tell them how to practice their religion. Isn't that fight what created this nation in the first place???
In regard to all these ideological turn-arounds in this country, and the general acceptance as "normal and accepted", the Bible itself may give some good prophetic guidance to the status of this nation today & going forward:
2 Tim 4:3… “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears”.
Isa 5:20… “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Please don't take this as an attack. I merely want to state the case of tens of millions of Americans the best way I know how. I am not the most articulate person, so if I have offended anyone, my humble apologies!
Maybe we can get America back to Normal with one less Tea Looney !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Time to call BS on that one! Forty years ago, the interest that a bank paid on a savings account was dictated by the federal government, airline routes and fares were dictated by the federal government, the price of beer was regulated by government, you couldn't own your own telephone and a REPUBLICAN President imposed wage and price controls.
Al in Visalia Ca - My reply was regarding Christian social issues, not partisan political issues.
By the way - Christians are made up of Democrats and Republicans. I had people in my weekly Bible study voting both red and blue during this last election...
concernedone - your post is nonsense. First, let's realize that the "Christians" you speak of do indeed "cherry pick" which items they adhere to. Remember the verse "judge not lest ye be judged?" Yet the "Christians" you speak of judge others daily and you've done the same in your post.
You've decided who is right and wrong - according to YOUR views. You don't know anyone's life yet you judge them. YOU'VE decided who is Christian and who isn't.
If you believe there are those who are "Christians" who aren't having affairs; stealing; judging others; having gay sex; you're living in total ignorance. No group is like you want to pretend. Grow up and try living in the real world.
P.S. - you have NO idea what goes on behind closed doors in the homes of people YOU consider to be REAL Christians!
concernedone:
Ah yes, the good ol' times 50 years ago, when God-fearin' Christians were keeping the blackies in their place, as Jesus and God intended. Terrorizing black children who only wanted to be educated, scapegoating and lynching innocent blacks freely, burning down black churches, intimidating those blackies to not vote (one way or another), treating blacks as sub-humans via segregation & discrimination -- ah, yes those good ol' God-fearing times!!
If the Christian God truly exists, ironically, the Bible quotes you mentioned will be thrown back into the face of those who quoted them. And they don't even realize it, because instead of truly worshipping God & Christ, they worship themselves and their own pride, ego, and lust for prestige, wealth, and everlasting life, and merely use God & Christ to justify their worship of themselves.
Matthew 25:42-45 - For I was hungry and you wouldn't feed me; thirsty, and you wouldn't give me anything to drink; a stranger, and you refused me hospitality; naked, and you wouldn't clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn't visit me. Then they will reply, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?' And I will answer, 'When you refused to help the least of these my brothers, you were refusing to help me.'
Matthew 23:23-24 - Yes, woe upon you, Pharisees, and you other religious leaders - hypocrites! For you tithe down to the last mint leaf in your garden, but ignore the important things - justices and mercy and faith...Blind guides! You strain out a gnat and swallow a camel.
Matthew 7:22-23 - At the Judgement, many will tell me, 'Lord, Lord, we told others about you and used your name to cast out demons and to do many other great miracles.' But I will reply, 'You have never been mine. Go away for your deeds are evil.
Steve Rogers - I am 100% certain you know the verses you quote are 1/2 of the passages... Would you like to share the other half's for the good of the readers? Those other half of the passages has Jesus Christ rewarding the faithful for talking care of the least of these - yes - rewarding with eternal life for the good they have done!!! But I'm sure you know that.
Keeping those promised rewards in mind (for the faithful), refer again to what I posted above. The part you leave out is the exact part that makes my case.
Thank you for the response.
concernedone:
Okay -
Matthew 25:34-40 - Then I, the King, shall say to those at my right, 'Come, blessed of my Father, into the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you invited me into your homes; naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me.' Then these righteous ones will reply, 'Sir, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and gave you anything to drink? Or a stranger, and help you? Or naked, and clothe you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' And I, the King, will tell them, 'When you did it to these my brothers you were doing it to me!'
Now let's see, what are the conservative Christian viewpoints about:
1. The hungry and thirsty - cut down on food stamps and aid to women with dependent children.
2. Illegal immigrants - they're all worthless leeches and refuse, deport 'em all, including their innocent children (although to his credit, Gov. Perry stood up for the children).
3. The homeless - they all got themselves into their own mess, they deserve what they got, let em fend for themselves.
4. The poor & uninsured/underinsured sick - let em all go the ER when their condition's really bad or let em die. As a Christian nation, we're not supposed to provide healthcare to our citizens as a basic right, we're supposed to value the idea of free market capitalism profits above the welfare & health of people.
There's a passage in the New Testament that says good works without faith is worthless. If you are only helping the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless, the sick, and the poor, because you want to get into heaven, then that is good works without faith. If you are helping the hungry, the thristy, the homeless, the sick, and the poor, because you care about them as human beings, regardless of whether you will be rewarded by God or not, then that is good works with faith.
Luke 9:24 - For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.
If the reason a Christian helps the less fortunate is because he or she wants eternal life & rewards in heaven, then isn't that the same as trying to save their own life above all else? A true follower of Christ cares more about other people, than he or she does about eternal life and rewards in heaven, and thus by losing their life for Christ, will save it.
Thanks for conversing with me!
Very insightful steve rogers. Thank you for your post. I believe you are definitely seeing clearer than most. I'm not overly religious......but believe all your points are on target.
Steve Rogers - Your points condemn conservative Christians with a pile of garbage that lacks truth. Just as in ANY situation, you can find the exception to the rule, but you are completely off track...
You speak of partisan politics, not Christianity. You want to turn the world against Christians, so you pigeon-hole them all into a stereotypical box and light the box on fire. What in the world does an effort to get 49 million+ people out of their dire situation have to do with the Christian church. The church and the government are two different entities... Remember above where I said I have BOTH dem's and rep's in my weekly Bible study???
Another lie. This has nothing to with the Christian church's position on immigration. This is, again, partisan political garbage...
Steve - to say this absolutely proves your walk with the Lord is in danger. There is no greater effort to assist the homeless than Christian based organizations. The proof is in those buildings called "shelters" and "missions". How about food banks a huge percentage of churches operate or are a part of? What is that for? What about alms for the poor nearly every Christian congregation in the world participates in? What is alms relief? Steve - This post is late, but let any reader who stumbles on this see for themselves what you attempt to pull off...
Why would you blame this partisan political matter on the church, again? This has nothing to do with the church! It is difference in ideology that divides camps on matters like 'who will pay for it'? Doctors and nurses, republican's and democrat's - people from all ends of the secular spectrum want different things and stress their importance more than others. The church views matters completely differently!
Finally, we agree on something. The last 1/3 of your post makes sense. Good works are a manifestation of the great work God and His Holy Spirit has done for the believer! To say "I am a Christian", but walk past the Samaritan on the roadside proves you are not you think you are!
Matthew 7:17 says, "Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit."
We will all be separated - the sheep from the goats. As part of His righteous judgements, Jesus will look at all the things you and I discussed (among many others). But I also believe He will judge those who tore down his kingdom and drove away His sheep, vs. those who did what they could to advance His kingdom with pure, honest intent - for the honor and glory of our Father in heaven!
Matthew 5:15... "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."
Excuse me, but which party has the overwhelming support of conservative & evangelical Christians, to the extent that many such preachers and ministers are putting out voter guides telling their congregations whom to vote for? Which party does CBN consistently praise and which party does CBN consistently denigrate? IF conservative & evangelical Christians were for the issues I mentioned in my last post, then why do they overwhelmingly and publicly support the one party that is against those same issues? As for feeding the poor and looking after the homeless, why are they deadset against the government helping fulfill those issues? Do they help the poor and homeless, because they really care about the poor and homeless? Or do they help and not want the government to help, because they want to solely claim the prestige that goes along with the act? The U.S. is a democratic republic. Government is ultimately the collective responsibility of all voting-age citizens in this country. If you vote for someone who denigrates the poor, the homeless, the sick, the stranger, then you are hating upon those classes.
Finally, like many believers, you seem more concerned with being on the "right" side on Judgement Day and an eternal reward in heaven, than you do about the values that Jesus taught & tried to promote. You seem more concerned with winners and losers than with mercy, justice, faith, love, compassion, and truth. It always seems to be a game of "I'm one of the winners, you're one of the losers, nah, nah!".
Very interesting. I hope these right wing conservatives are beginnig to see the tides turning, the majority of American's want moderate, bi-partisan leaders in Washington. But I am sure it is wishful thinking on my part that his replacement will be more moderate. Oh well one can hope!!!
Yes we see the tide turning... This once Great Nation is becoming Socialist, and in full speed to the abyss.
I hope all you uneducated indoctranated dimwitted takers get exacty what you want.
More and More Gov control over your lives, higher cost of living etc.
"I hope all you uneducated indoctranated dimwitted takers get exacty what you want."
Apparently Texas missed the news about most of the freeloading takers are not only uneducated...but Republicans...
Actually it seems like SOME Americans like Socialism, Big Government and a President that KILLS His Own and GET AWAY WITH IT Like Fast and Furious and Benghazi...Some of you ACTUALLY believe Obama is Christ-Like!!! Those type of SHEEP are the Idiots that is DESTROYING whats left of America!!! This is why I am Independent, Dems and Reps need to be DISSOLVED...
Figures coming from a Texan. So I guess you won't be taking that a SOCIALIZED security that you have been paying into all these years? How nice of you!
LoveTEXAS, according to the polls, the most educated voted for the Dems. So you mind must be a little screwed up. Or did you mean not indoctrinated to the Republican lies?
The big problem with the takers, are they are uneducated. They don't have the ability to do math, which leads them to believe the well will never run dry. At the ongoing rate of increase of the percentage of takers, at some point in the future there will become the situation where in order to pay for the takers, the workers will be taxed at 100%, so, it becomes non productive to try to create wealth. 'Give according to your abilities, take according to your needs' is a fallacy, human nature dictates those giving will only give the least possible, those taking will take as much as possible.
Andy: "The big problem with the takers, are they are uneducated. They don't have the ability to do math, which leads them to believe the well will never run dry. At the ongoing rate of increase of the percentage of takers, at some point in the future there will become the situation where in order to pay for the takers, the workers will be taxed at 100%, so, it becomes non productive to try to create wealth."
And those "takers" are the rich corporate welfare queens who refuse to pay their share of taxes. Are they uneducated? Perhaps you're right! Santorum did say Obama advocating for college education made him a (and I quote) SNOB!
You're right! The rich takers have no problem taxing the poor and middle class at 100% but they refuse to pay as much (if ANYTHING!) They privatize their profits and socialize their losses.
The only people for which the rich "takers" "create wealth" are themselves--at the expense of the middle class and the poor. When will they realize this economy needs the middle class to grow and create more wealth--for everyone? When they see they are starving themselves (and everyone else) when they starve the poor and middle class?
When?
Andy: "human nature dictates those giving will only give the least possible, those taking will take as much as possible."
That's something else you may be right about, Andy. The problem is it's the same group "giving" that are doing the "taking!" The top 1-2% wealthiest. The rich "give" to themselves--and they "take" from everyone else.
How much do they need?
Love TEXAS - it probably really frosts you that liberals are MORE educated than conservatives, right? More highly educated voted for President Obama than Mitt! Oh, and they WEREN'T homeschooled! And, they know that evolution and science are REAL!!!! Now, go back to the backward state of TEXAS and pout!
Oh, just a hint - when you begin with the "socialist" stupidity, we know you don't have an IQ above 60!
Bmoremom - you're NOT an Independent - we wouldn't have you! You're CLEARLY a Tea Partier! Your ignorance shows through your post - loud and clear!
SeekingSanity.........
Many right-wingers (i.e. Love TEXAS) have decided they don't like democracy anymore. They even discuss this among themselves while planning their secessions.
They are busy writing their new constitution. It starts: "We, the white people"
Bmoremom, are you "OK" ??????????
Can't be more conservative.
what did they catch him doing?
Too bad there aren't about 25 more like him. Now if we could just get rid of Reid and his fellow nut cases
You are an idiot
There are 25 more like him. They are called TEABAGGERS!
If we could get rid of more members of the hard core GOP/Tea Cult , we as a Nation could get some great things done.
LOL. Zing!
MLH in OK. ANOTHER oh so tired old troll for the "flat earth society" DeMint and his teahad backwards southern strategy style of politics as well as economics represent on here where "liberty and freedom" only equates to if you're white, thump bibles, worship the wealthy and are willing to give your last dime to them on the premise that they keep telling you if you work hard "you'll be one of them someday" as you sell your soul to the company store and that is exactly where we're going all over again because wages just continue to decline for the average worker as wage disparity is at the same levels is was at during the 1920s as well as what tax rates are rapidly approaching befoe the Crash of 29 and led to the Great Depression. Something incidently we also had when just when this many states were controlled by gop legislatures and a House in DC was that lopsided too. Retracting and shrinking an economy by the types of austerity measures against the majority of the populace, injecting ANY stimulus INTO the economy when we DO NEED it right now when te government could borrow at a time when interest is record LOWS instead of wanting more useless tax cuts for people that do NOT invest in the economy as we have seen time and again but just hoard their money in offshore accounts or personal investments rather then create ANY JOBS is futile.....Most of all, NOT MORE DEFENSE SPENDING, yet what just got approved? 631 bilion in just that the other day as this House is shrieking over taking a chain saw to MC, SS and MA but erfuse to raise 1 dimne of taxes back to the Clinton rates on the top 2% who have really been getting the "free ride" all this time.
They got billions in bail outs thanks to tarp and AIG got another 890 billion more on the American taxpayer. Now these CEOS are crabbing about how SS needs "to get under control and people should be getting 30 retirements on SS after working only 25 years?" Lloyd Blankfein. These are who your tea party gang protect with their mother's cherry as they scream about the ACA being the root of all evil.
No wonder General Sherman burned down half of SC during the Civil War. Even back then he knew it was filled with nutty bastards
The average I.Q. in both the Senate and the Heritage Foundation will increase by about 30 points.
What a lovely story to wake up to this morning..........
I love your avatar!
How much thinking actually goes on in a right-wing think tank?
About as much as you would guess. Unless, of course, you don't know the difference between thinking and knee-jerking.
A think tank is where folks go to try and learn how to think...
They just tune in Fox News and let them do their thinking.
It's a lot like a fish tank....try to think, but keep bouncing off the invisible walls.
They think exactly what ALEC tells them to think.
Factors and magnitudes more than any left wing no-think tank
From what I've heard, Its a place members meet to watch FauxNews. Afterwards they are ready to tell the rest of the world how to live.
From all the evidence, it's a tankless job.
Jumbo shrimp. Plastic silverware. Soft rock music. Congressional ethics. FOX journalist. Civil war. Truth in advertising. Hospital food. And now, conservative think tank. Did I leave out anyone's favorite oxymoron?
So then what you're saying is that the Republicans intentionally threw this election to the Democrats because of their superior thinking? That's rich.
JoAnne... Military Intelligence ...
Be gone! *poof*
Unfortunately, Senator DeMint failed to accomplished anything worthwhile in the Senate...time for him to exit stage right!
Not just stage right, stage FAR right!
This is a senator that is part of the Tea Party crowd. Most (if not all) are so terribly delusional that they still think their party has won.
As such I see two possibilities...
1. Little boy can't get his way so he's gonna take his ball and go home.
2. Scandal in the works and he is getting out while the getting is good. (my personal hope)
QA, I would like to add one more speculation theory to the list if you will permit.
3. He see's the coming tide turning against the Teabaggers and his days in the Senate are numbered, so he jumps ship now instead of voter defeat later. He also is following the money trail because he will make tons more being a lobbyist than a civil servant. (Legally anyway)
I think he looked ahead to 2014 and saw the Democrats controlling the Senate again. Maybe he will run for President in 2016 but even if he doesn't, he can earn that $1 million salary and not put up with being in the minority in the Senate.
Democrats do control the Senate. They do not have a super majority (60 seats), but they are still the majority.
It's the House that Republicans still control. They only have that because of blatant gerrymandering. I believe that Democrats actually held the majority of votes in the House races nationwide, but because of the gerrymandering, Republicans were able to hold seats.
Please correct me on those numbers if I am mistaken. If Dems didn't get the majority vote it was darn close. Its been a month since the election, so I don't have the numbers at my fingertips any longer. :)
QA -- I think waht Steeler Fan meant was Democrats CONTINUING to control the Senate. Yes, the Dems control the Senate, and as you stated, only because of the gerrymandering, did the ReThuglicans get the House again.
Here's hoping we (SC) won't get someone even fruit-loopier and batsh*t crazier.
I'm sure your wonderful Gov. Haley has a replacement in mind. Like maybe, Strom Thurmond Jr., who is now old enough.
Boat, you are in the unenviable situation where your governess will bring your worst nightmare to fruition. She only associates with fruit-loopy, bs crazies so dont raise your hope above guano level.
Haley will appoint someone just as looeny as DeMint so wishful thinking there. These are the same crowd that just voted down the UN ratifying a global treaty regarding people with disabilities because 37 lunatic fringe teahads in the Senate malarkey as usual "about the UN coming to get their disabled child in the middle of the night, indoctrinate them somehow or some conspiracy about UN operatives attacking our sovereignty". This is your tea party in action gang and WHY our government has been in total gridlock over what were ONCE routine decisions and things that both parties could agree on. Now every darn thing because of this bunch is "no, no, no". There are progressice democrats, moderate democrats and conservative democrats-AKA: The Blue dogs whom often vote with the R's which is why in the Senate breaking the filibuster to get that 60 vote majority HAS been almost impossible but the stranglehold the tea party faction has had on the gop yanked them to the reactionary end of the spectrum-period. ANY repub since who does not take this view is threatened with being primaried and if anyone attempts to work with the other side, they're immediately branded as a RINO or a traitor.
John McCain, Dick Lugar, Olympia Snow, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Russ Feingold, Sam Nunn, Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd and many worked across the aisle over the years to do what had to be done to make government functional and work for US, the American people who voted for them but now when that is attempted, a fight ensues. To something for OUR benefit? Oh no, can't do that as "wasteful spending and hand outs". Invest on DIME in rebuilding the infrastructure of THIS country that is falling apart? Nope. Defense contractors make no money doing that so don't bother as the Senate d/n have one filibuster when 631 BILLION was approved the other day for a defense contract but The House insists SS, MC and MA have a chain taken to THEM as "bankrupting unsustainable entitlements" because those things are the last of what prevent PEOPLE in this country after we paid into those by working and what the poor, along with multiple other programs MA funds that benefit ordinary people and children, including the working POOR which we have far too many of and whose wages could be raised to life them out of poverty w/o huring anyone's bottom line but insatiable greed lust will NEVER allow that of course so THOSE THINGS are always under attack.
Unbidled crimminal capitalism is what the tea party is funded by and what they fight to protect at all costs. Nothing "grassroots" about them and never was". DeMint goes where the money is and lobbying is "where the money is" he can push his "faith, morals and less big government, more freedom" as this and other millionaire, billionaire funded behemoths like this one help ALEC and the Kochs continue to literally WRITE legislation and hand it to reps in their respective statehouses, et al from more restrictive voter ID laws, crack down on women's reproductive rights, continue to discriminate against equal pay, crush organized labour so rights for the ordinary worker are further destroyed in favour of big business, corporate raiders and workers can be intimidated, wages shrunk, benefits reduced, workers fired as of this writing Citigroup annonces the "trimming of 11,000 workers" in an effort to restructure internally and of course save costs though this last quarter boasted 6.6 profits and "were pleased with their returns". GREED. DeMint and his crowd represent this and defend it to the end, along with the Blue Doh coalition of the D party who would sell out their constiuents to continue tax subsidies for the fossil industry and backed those trumped up charges against the AG in the F&F BS. No time for a jobs bill that has any chance of passing in the real world but our illustrious House has taxpayer money to waste on this nonsense and 33 bogus votes to "repeal the ACA". Welcome to teahad land.
Halley might even nominate HERSELF
Good riddance to DeMint. May he fail miserably at whatever he tries, just as he and his Republican colleagues tried to make America fail over the past two years.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Don't let the door hit you in the A$$, you obstructionist !
Jim DeMint and The Heritage Foundation deserve each other! However you feel about both of them, this is the perfect place for him! :)
They can all get together and repeat Sheldon Adelson's wish list while pretending to think.
This tells you just about everything you need to know about the Heritage Foundation. A room full of DeMints.
can it really be that SToooPID?
There really is a Santa Claus
Michael O'Brien... A curious public would like to know if you failed your freshman English Writing class.
Well, I might have said "frequently clashed" to make my meaning absolutely clear, but I don't see any problem with English here. Michael simply uses a more sophisticated construction that many may perhaps mis-interpret. "not infrequently" has the same meaning as "frequently."
so LG - you don't understand the functionality of double negatives? Eschew obfuscation?
Oh, ok. His response then to LG's comment might be -
"I don't use no double negatives"
Better choice: not infrequently = ocaisionally?
I thought it was a hanging participle.
nah - that's demint - a hanging dingleberry
Wow!!! Talk about no backbone!! Gee, ya lose one election and you go cryin' to your Momma?
Good riddance.
Well this is the same crowd that wanting to the secede from the USA because after all the voter ID laws, cheating and destruction of voter registration forms lead to the arrest of Nathan Sproul in Florida and had to shutdown his lovely operation the battleground states where the same thing was going on, intimidating workers who were told "serious consequences would occur if they d/n vote the way they were told to", lies, propaganda smears against the President for almost SIX years, blatant obstructionism by the opposing party to " whose primary was to make Barack Obama a one term President", record filibusters in the Senate-(348)...more money spent to try and BUY candidates into the oval office, the Senate and the House did not work and district gerry mandering obviously only worked in the case of the House and in the statehouses to keep teahad legislatures in power like Walker and his 100% Kochtopus, big oil and Wall St backed "grassroots" pals there and now they're saying voter ID would have won Wisconsin for Romney and people like Tommy Thompson so what more do you need to know?
The cont'd fight save what is LEFT of democracy for ALL people and their Constitutional right to vote among their other civil liberties that were fought for and those before us DIED for have to be fought for all over again. Sad as that is.
not to mention "Get that N**** out of our white house"
Yup teabaggers aren't racist...not at all /SARCASM
"No organization is better equipped to lead this fight and I believe my experience in public office as well as in the private sector as a business owner will help Heritage become even more effective in the years to come."
===================
I'm certain 'obstinate conservative' business owners around the nation will immediately start hiring knowing you will be at the helm of the worlds foremost authority in job creation and economic growth.
Thanks for suffering with that paltry 1.5 mill or so in base salary over your time in the Senate. Hope all those Roman Noodles you had to brown bag didn't destroy the lining of your tummy.
That picture also seems telling...No Media or Public beyond this point to see that I've been doing absolutely nothing....
Tood-a-looo mutha @!$%#aaaaaaaa lalalalalalalaa.....!
One down, many more to go!
Was this his Waterloo?
certainly the "LOO" part, but the water??? He seemed full of sh it all the time
talk about a Win-Win! he will hurt the nation a lot less out of the Senate and is a great choice to lead the venerable conservative Heritage Foundation.
