In the ongoing fiscal cliff negotiations, some Republicans are starting to think the way forward is to give in to President Obama's demands. And as NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss, Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Paul Ryan sparked 2016 presidential speculation during speeches in Washington last night.

Slowly but surely the Republicon's are beginning to see the light!
They have NO where to run to... NO where to hide... lol
As for Ryan/Rubio, this is a Presidential election, not a beauty pageant for pea-brained, pretty boys!
Although, Bible Spice might be able to teach them a thing or two about "fancy pageant walking"...
2 pretty boys; 2 empty heads.
If the GOP wants to win, Republicans have to shape up...or voters will ship more of them out again ...in 2014.
I have trust in the endangered elephants with their backs against the wall after being rejected by voters. By giving in to Obama's correct path of fiscal policy, the GOP is doing for its own survival, not a favor to the President, but a favor to itself.
On the other hand the tin foil hatters think walking over the cliff is President Obama's way to blame them.
Analysis: Obama signals willingness to go over 'fiscal cliff,' banks on GOP getting the blame
http://www.newser.com/article/da2vjscg3/analysis-obama-signals-willingness-to-go-over-fiscal-cliff-banks-on-gop-getting-the-blame.html
ROFL, it is their fault. After all, they are the ones who squandered Clinton's surplus, didn't pay for 2 war, and republicans let the debt ceiling for the 1st time last time give US problem.
Pretty is in the eye of the beholder, and my eyes do not see pretty boys when I look at either Rubio or Lyin Ryan. But, whatev. As far as a presidential run for either I say give it your best shot, but this new little dance both of them are trying to do drips with hypocrisy, IMO.
With 2 orifices that spew nasty, frothy, Santorum rhetoric. Yo, Santorum, when did you decide to turn up the flame on that fire down below to scorch and burn the disabled. Are you afraid of the disabled?
Hey!
Speaking of pea-brained, pretty boys, anyone know where JoAnna Smith and her size 15 EEE's disappeared to?
Marco & Lyin Ryan have taken "man-scaping" to a whole new level... lol
Thank you Alaska Girl. . .
I can't stand looking at either of them - mostly for the exact reason RedDevPS posted above. They are so ugly on the inside, it hurts my eyes!
They have NO where to run to... NO where to hide...
Ha ha hah. A new justifcation for their name...the party of NO.
I get a kick out out of posters that call successful people "idiots", would like to know their worldly accomplishments...
Layton: They aren't anything to look at. They are both so pasty looking. Now, Channing Tatum? That is one delicious looking man who is very easy on my eyes, and Lyin Ryan can't hold a candle to that man's abs or guns! Okay, a little off topic!
That little fiscal debacle that's been swirling around for days on end? I think at the end of the day the Republicans will have no choice but to cut out the middle class taxes issue and let the tax rates for the 2% expire as with everything else and come back in January to work out a deal with the president. If they don't do at least the middle class part of it now, it will cement most Americans thinking that they are the ultimate protectors of the wealthy and care nothing at all about the middle class. They will further damage their party image(doesn't seem like it could get any worse, but oh yes, it can) if they let the middle class go off the cliff. I think they will try to rein in their public displays of fighting and try to keep it behind closed doors so that they can appear to be united. Anyway, this is just how I see things unfolding over the next couple of weeks.
AlaskaGirl,
To tell the truth, either do I, but I think that's how the RWNJs see them.
Amy in Portland put it well earlier today when she compared Rubio to an oily used car salesman, and Forcible Rape Ryan to a snake--saying he made her skin crawl. Ryan has the same affect on me.
RedDevPS
Yo, Santorum, when did you decide to turn up the flame on that fire down below to scorch and burn the disabled. Are you afraid of the disabled?
Red, Santorm started writing for WND (World Nut Daily). Santorium is a bona fided nut.
Rick Santorum Is a Columnist for WND's Conspiracy Factory Now
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2012/12/rick-santorum-columnist-wnds-conspiracy-factory-now/59558/
Can you believe this nut thinks by keeping his name in the news he has a shoot at 2016 for President? I just don't get it. Don't idiots like him and Evangelist broadcaster Harold Camping who told his listeners he had cracked a code in the Bible that allowed him to calculate the date of the Rapture for the end of the world? If that's the case, the Rapture or Mayan prophecy of December 21 2012 wont allow it. So why bother?
I think Santorium is in other realm.
Alaska Girl,
Ditto what Jack said!
Especially on how they are viewed by their fellow RWNJ's... lol
When all they have left to represent them are the old, male, pale & stale, these two look like "Movie Star's!
TO: Pigotry who wrote:
Miss Piggy, I am very much looking forward to a Democratic House come next mid-terms.
Republicans tried this time to rely solely on rhetoric, and that failed them.
I think we're going to have to honest efforts on the part of the GOP to turn things around in this country and quit trying to overturn the election and the U.S. Government simply because there are things that the GOP doesn't agree with.
That said, it's encouraging to hear that Republicans are finally coming around, but it's going to take a while longer before I think we should actually "trust" them again.
Maybe when they all retrieve their "memory", that will be a sign that we can bestow a bit of trust, cautiously.
Feisty, that's funny. Just moments before I read your post I was also wondering where Smiff disappeared to. Hiding out in her garret?
Personal feelings are neither are as pretty as Hillary, I sure hopes she hears the call. Neither of these clowns have the experience nor the intelligence that she has. Obama has put us on the right path to prosperity, 8 years of another Clinton would put S.S. in a lock box, move us toward a path to peace, and 8 years closer to the American dream for all Americans not just those chosen by Karl Rove and/or Rush Limbaugh, etc.
Lil, I sit through an entire election while people called Obama dumb, stupid and worse. If I happen to feel that these two republicans are ignorant scumbags, who lied their way into their posistion in life, so be it, and too bad for you.
Sorry but Ryan just creeps me out! I see Gomer Pyle every time I look at him! Not a pretty boy - nope! Not a chance!
Just saw this: Most Powerful Person in the World - Barack Obama - according to Forbes Magazine. How proud are we to say THIS man is our President????
Alaska girl, was it good for you? LOL
''That is one delicious looking man who is very easy on my eyes, and Lyin Ryan can't hold a candle to that man's abs or guns! Okay, a little off topic!"
John, wonderful post.
John, if it wasn't good for her, it certainly was for me! ;-)
We all did and got damn sick and tired of all of the horrible names they called the President. Great post, John.
John -- and I would say the same to anyone calling Obama "dumb", and like I said, i get a kick out of it thinking "wow, they must have done something that makes them feel superior, wonder what that was!?".
it kind of makes me sad that Dems fall prey to nasty namecalling, brings them down to republican levels!
aura is a powerful thing peeps!
Lil, turn the other cheek didn't work for Christians and it don't work with conservatives. I want the world to know I slap back, I feel just as passionate about democratic causes and platform as they feel about theirs. While the language gets a bit colorful and dumb becomes part of the English language, it is the rhetoric that brings me here and it is the rhetoric that keeps me her. In other words I enjoy calling former V.P. candidate Paul Ryan a loser, so if I bring amusement to you by doing so then ok with me. By the way I have accomplished as much as any other American, we all have a role and without one of the players the others wouldn't be as successful, nor would they have anybody to notice them.
Still, you do realize that namecalling is a sign of weakness, right?
Thank you Pat, coming from you it is especially welcome, as another poster said today, I learn something from you every day.
[Pretty is in the eye of the beholder...]
Huh...I always thought it was "pretty is in the eye of the beer holder"...
LOL Mickey, good one!
And to answer Seeking's question, you don't know how VERY proud I am that Obama leads this great country!! :-)
It depends, in my opinion if you are using name calling to bully, or are using name calling as descriptive. There is a difference. These forums are used by different people for different things, some it is to vent, others it is to express, for me I use them as a way to keep my mind active and ward off dementia. Ahhh, some just go to the puzzle section, me I use this, and if I do use name calling, you can betcha I just did it to be descriptive.
By the way your opinion is welcome, we just have a different view of this point.
btw, i didn't mean anything personal to anyone. like I said earlier, it just makes me sad that we stoop to that level. I'm a teacher, I guess I can't get over hearing all the namecalling in the schoolyard/classroom... I really get saddened by it all, everyone has good qualities - some are just harder to find than others!!
:-)
Bev - and to imagine that nut made a presidential bid. Imagine that right-wing religious freak running the country. Talk about a frightening vision.
Lil, thank you for serving, the move against teachers saddens me. In Michigan the conservatives are calling them names. Union goon comes to mind. I guess they feel teachers don't deserve a living wage and benefits. There is even a move to put schools on line, while I think on line instruction could be an important tool it should never replace the one on one that a teacher/pupil relationship has. I guess I understand your opposition to name calling, however, this isn't a class room. This is more like you stepping out in the hall and over hearing the conversations.
Lil Michelle,
I happen to agree with John in Battle Creek (whose posts I've been enjoying). The thing is, this isn't the playground. People get bloody noses on the playground and get their feelings hurt. Out in the real world they die as so much cannon fodder for rich old white men and corporations.
There is a fundamental difference between Liberals, who want to build an honest, caring, shared-sacrifice community; and people like "Forcible Rape" Ryan, a habitual liar who values numbers over humans, a scoundrel who doesn't have an ounce of compassion in his body.
As a teacher, you, of all people, should understand what the Republican Party represents to community, the environment and education.
Had to reprint this:
(Written
by John Gray with edits by me)
Joe Conservative gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot
full of good clean drinking water because some crazed liberal fought for
minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first
swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some government
liberal fought to insure their safety, and that they work as advertised.
All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan
because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical
insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and
eggs this day. Joe’s food is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws
to regulate the meat packing and food industries. Joe Conservative heads the
bathroom. Joe does his business and flushes the toilet, sending his waste to a
treatment plant that some wasteful government officials created. Gone are the
days of pots to pee in, and the cholera.
Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; his bottle is properly labeled
with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal
fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it
contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he
breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop
industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway or bus station for
his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in
parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable
public transportation. Some days, Joe drives on a road system that everyone
shares because the government paid for it and pays to maintain it. Joe couldn’t
build his own roads and bridges by himself.
Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits,
retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought
and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards
because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union back in.
Otherwise, they’d pay the going rate in China, which is .33/day. If Joe is hurt
on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or an
unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should lose his home
because of his temporary misfortune.
Its noon time, Joe heads out to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s
deposit is federally insured by the FDIC because some liberal wanted to protect
Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who try to ruin the banking system and
economy every time the Conservatives are in charge. Joe has to pay his Fannie
Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because
some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over
his life-time.
Joe is home from work, and he flips on an hour of Fox News. They’re talking about
how bad the liberal agenda is. Joe plans to visit his mom this evening at her
farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to mom's; his car is
among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety
standards. He gets good gas mileage because some liberal fought for it. He
arrives at his boyhood home. Joe was the third generation to live in the house
financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make
rural loans. The house didn’t have electricity until some big government
liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural
electrification (those rural Republicans are probably still sitting in the
dark)
He is happy to see his mom who is now retired. His mom lives on Social Security
and his dad’s union pension because some liberal made sure she could take care of
herself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with mom, Joe gets back in his
car for the ride home.
He turns on the Rush Limbaugh show, the host keeps saying that liberals are bad
and conservatives are good (and doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans
have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his
day). Joe agrees "We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our
lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of
themselves, just like I have".
Joe Conservative gets so excited that he drives off the fiscal cliff. Joe’s death
is not in vain. Joe died so that millionaires will have more money to invest in
Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts.

Do the right thing, and save the right-leaning party of GOP.
A two-party competition is good for America. I hope the GOP will be up to the task.
I have to agree Pigotry! A three party system would be better perhaps?
Lil Michelle - a three party system is a huge problem. The votes for competent candidates will be diluted and there is every chance a pure buffoon would win an election because of that split.
No, little Michelle it wouldn't in my opinion, you think there are back room deals and corruption now. Put a third party and two parties vying for their votes and you have a recipe for chocolate chip cookies. Not a very good one either. I think term limits would have a greater impact. Get in, do your thing and get out. Let new blood run this country. Sure there are downsides to term limits but in my opinion it gets people out that would stay until they can't remember what they are voting on. I view that as a good thing.
well, the reason I said that was because that one party obstructionist.... if there were say three strong parties, and one party played "party politics" too much, it would hurt their parties future, maybe more so than now.
but then again, I see your point. especially on term limits - would also love to see all politicians live by every law they deem fit for Americans, like Social Security, etc.
We have found a common ground, I have been responsible and paid the price for any misdeeds I have done in my life. These people passing the laws certainly should be also. I also think there is too much time and money involved in our elections. After the first of the year, bipartisan filibuster reform, and then they should address election reform. However the fiscal cliff may be on the hot plate still. I hope not. They need to settle that this year. Yes, they should be paying into social security, however, all are too rich to have to draw it.
It has happened before in American politics. We started out with the Federalists and the Jeffersonian Republicans the former went the way of the dodo and was replaced by the Whig party and the latter was updated to Democratic-Republican party. Later the Whig party fell apart being replaced by a much more liberal Republican party while the Republican was dropped from the Democratic-Republican party to avoid confusion.
Of the top of my head I can think of a couple of elections where there were 3 parties vieing for the Presidency. In 1856 the newly formed Republican party ran John C. Fremont, The Know-Nothings ran Millard Fillmore and the Democrats ran James Buchanan. The right wing was split between Fremont and Fillmore that the solidly backed Buchanan won. Unfortunately for the nation Buchanan was a terrible president. In 1912 President William H. Taft representing the Republican Party, Theodore Roosevelt trying a comeback for the Bull Moose party and Woodrow Wilson for the Democrats. Taft, the incombant, came in third and with the Republican vote split between Roosevelt and Taft Wilson cruised to victory. In this case it turned out okay as Wilson proved to be a pretty good one.
In more recent times John Anderson, H. Ross Perot, and others may have made a dent but none that, by their action, caused anyone to lose or win.
The Republican party is going through tough times right now. They are being controlled by right wing extremists, some of whom would prefer a dictator not unlike Adolf Hitler, with many of their members who would normally hug the center of the political spectrum either giving in to the radicals, quitting the party altogether and either voting for Democrats or calling themselves independants or who, like House Speaker John (crybaby) Boehner is caught in the middle between the center leaning common sense Republicans, those who resemble Eisenhower or even Reagan and a bunch of extreme radicals hellbent on supporting the greed of a few at the expense of the many. Whether they will recover is anybody's guess. If, somehow, Boehner makes it through and the moderates regain control of the Republican party the party will survive but if the extremists keep control the Republican party, while it may still exist, will be reduced to a virtually powerless laughing stock. Those who formerly identified themselves as Republicans (center leaning) may remain where they are or form another party as those on the right side of the spectrum have done before. The world and the nation are moving more and more toward the left, like it or not.
The founding fathers, men like Washington, Frankln, Jefferson, and Adams were all considered liberals in their day. They helped accelerate the move of European governments toward the left. The French got rid of their despotic king. Unfortunately they were stuck with Napoleon Bonaparte who was crowned eperor but that, too, didn't last as the taste of freedom was in the mouths of the French people as they strove for Liberté, égalité, fraternité, (freedom, equality and brotherhood). Fights for freedom and equality continue by liberal minded people around the world. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Myanmar and other places where liberal thinking (liberal meaning equal, free) people continue to fight the autocrats continuing freedom's march throughout all of humanity.
Please can't we stop this next election talk. Who wants to argue this s#it for the next 4 years. Hell were still arguing about the last one.
Who doesn't like Kenny Rogers songs?
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town...
As far as Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio distancing themselves from Romney, they aren't really.
Romney was the moderate when he ran for the presidency, but had to turn right because of the likes of Paul Ryan. That's where Ryan resides.
Rubio? Forget it. Nationally, he's going nowhere.
Think Progress:
And on Tuesday night, at the Jack Kemp Foundation Leadership Award Dinner, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who is seen as the future of the Republican Party and a potential presidential candidate, sought to lay out a blueprint for the party moving forward. But he too reached for the policies of the past to lay the road to 2016, echoing policies Romney proposed, campaigned, and ultimately lost on.
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/12/05/1284171/rubio-paves-gops-future-with-romneys-policies/
Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton ... Islands in the Stream ... great stuff written by the BeeGees
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQW7I62TNOw
Pat, the sad part about is they are not sincere. Both Rubio and Ryan thin they can convince people with their scams.
BCWC - I am REALLY aging myself but that little song by Kenny & Dolly was "our" song at my wedding! :)
BCWC---Islands in the Stream is one of my favorites--never knew it was written by the Bee Gees.
Rubio & Ryan---all sizzle, no steak.
[Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton ... Islands in the Stream...]
And here I thought Dolly dreamed up that song while taking a bath...
Rest In Peace, Dave Brubeck.
Time Out and Time Further Out for a great soul and musician ... and thanks for all the other albums also Dave Brubeck. Your music will be listened to for centuries to come.
Time Out is one of my very favs ... I didn't know he'd passed. You will be missed Mr. Brubeck!
I'll raise a glass to that, Noid.
Adventures in Time.
Obama has finally figured how to herd cats. Those pussies (no offense intended BCWC) that are the GOPTP have been cornered. While a few might be admitting defeat (more precisely - caving into the demands of their constituents), most will go down scratching and biting. May the pissiest pussy lose - in 2014. Meow!!
None taken RD ... herding male cats is easy though, all you need is a female cat in heat.
Still the best Super Bowl ad of all time:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk7yqlTMvp8
Or, on the other hand, maybe also the worst, since as I recall, hardly anyone ever remembered it was for EDS or could later say exactly what it was they did for a living.
Kind of like today's GOP, in that sense.....
And, I might add, it is about time! Hopefully in the 2014 elections we can get full control of the HoR, and get the super majority back in the Senate!
Ah, 2 years till we find out....
OK BCWC - you got me on that one. Now I have a vision of Obama showing up at the House with a female cat as a negotiating tool <tsk, tsk>.
Yeah, but that won't work for herding the female republicans. Er, oh yeah, never mind.
Donde esta mi hermana NorthstarDFL? She was wondering about my new avatar. Condolences to y'all who were fans of Brubeck; I knew him as a legend, but was never really exposed to his music.
Being a Progressive means not being afraid to stand up and admit when you are wrong; and it is a fact that John in Battle Creek took me to school this morning on the whole Fiscal Cliff thing. I was guilty of being a little too flippant, and glossing over the very real danger of the economy hitting another stall.
However, it's beginning to look from hour to hour like the Reptilican 'leadership', and I use that term half in jest, are reading the tea leaves and figuring out that they continue to serve only the 2% at peril of their Party's continuing existence. I never thought I would live to see this day... as Joe in Albany likes to say, Life is good. Enjoy.
Zorro -
No se donde esta su hermana Northstar ahora mismo, pero su hermana es mi hermana tambien, y yo estoy aqui y (oh, forget it, it's been too long!) I was also wondering about your new avatar. Explicacion, por favor? Preferentemente en ingles?
I am not much of a jazz fan, but Brubeck's 'Time Out' has to be one of my favorite albums of all time.
The GOP is on the verge of extinction. Estupido, and Lyin Ryan are the best the party has to offer? OMG!!! Man is that party in trouble! Those two are nothing more than the lapdogs of the old stale white guys! No new thinking. No new blood. Just a couple of lyers, still trying to convince their followers that they are telling the truth. L.M.F.A.O.!!!!
R.I.P. Dave B. You will be sorely missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure look like they are relenting. But you keep telling yourself that they will as the bus is going over the cliff.
If you give in to Obamayou will be sorry! Dont you people see what this man is trying to do? Everything will be controlled by the government. Your health care, auto mobiel plants and now they going to allow tons of money to start a plant to manufacture batteries for electric cars financed by the your tax money. What private company can compete with a plant like this? He is going to take away one thing after the other. I would not be suprised if around the next election time we will be engaged in a major war. He will than stay on like Roosevelt did. From there on he will have clean sailing and you all be living in a marxist nation.
