Secretary of state isn't the only position of intrigue in a second-term Obama cabinet.
If Interior Secretary Ken Salazar decides to leave his post in a second term, a Democrat with knowledge of the environmental community and appointee process tells First Read that three names top the list of possible successor.
The three, according to this source: former Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), retiring Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), and outgoing Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire (D).

If I had won the Powerball prize, I would have set up a company to invest in Maine's agricultural industry. With global warming, the rest of the country is going to need the fruits and vegetables Maine could produce.
I would have thought that all of those supernatural creatures and evil entities that dwell in Maine, according to Stephen King, would play havoc with any sort of agricultural production.
Speculation and predictions, it's that time of year. Let's see, I'd pick Gregoire for Secretary of Interior; she's from Washington state which is environmentally conscious as well as forward thinking. Putting a female in charge of Interior makes sense; women tend to look at the small details for impact not just the obvious ones.
If I had won the Powerball, I would have used it for collateral to buy Hostess; thrown out the greedy CEO and the19 executives who bankrupted it twice, then had the nerve to ask the judge for over $1 million in bonuses for their failures all while blaming the union for not taking pay cuts and daring to demand Hostess invest in new equipment.

I've been to Eastport, that's pretty creepy. Dried fish hanging outside mom and pop stores. Then, there is the tombstone of the judge who condemmed a woman, where the witches foot appears, in Bucksport. Ayah, and mysterious children in the cornfields...
At Interior, Who might succeed Salazar?
Let's see....An Interior Czar?
We saw Stephen King's house in Bangor----beautiful wrought iron gates with creepy creatures like bats & spiders on it. House was beautiful, too.
If I had won the Powerball, I would have done a lot of fun spending but also would have started a liberal think tank featuring the wise thoughts of the liberals who post here.
With all this talk about Stephan King, I nominate the Koch brothers.
Sorry Jody - the GOP will never support a woman for the position, unless of course, they can be convinced the Interior position means the interior of the home.
Gale Ann Norton, Secretary of the Interior, January 2001-March 2006
Lynn Scarlett, Acting Secretary of the Interior, April-May 2006
Da Noid ... that was so Rachel Maddow of you. Let it be known that Progressives are self-correcting group.
They had a czar a sala czar!!!!
Amy, you can have the fruits and nuts we have in CA. Gosh knows we have enough of them, and the funny thing, the majority are in CA Government.
Hey, Adler-273784 who said (#1.10) -
They need a new czar to replace salad czar.
I think they should hire former French President Czar-Kozy who is retired and enjoy a cozy life...may want a new challenge?
Whoever becomes Sec of Int, it will be ok with me. I cringed at the thought of a Romney/Ryan pick for that position.
Any of the three mentioned in this article would be okay with me. They are all good people.
Hey pig,
How about Sandra Fluke as the sex czar?
Secretary's of the Interior have historically been chosen, not for their extensive knowledge of the Indigenous peoples of this nation, their lands and resources; instead, the focus is on the federal lands that were also once native lands that were "ceded" to the US Gov't with or without tribal approval and the administration of them for financial purposes. A Secretary of Interior that knows the historical record of the U.S. and how it has devastated native peoples and how the gov't can repay their losses would be a good start for the person selected for this important position; whomever it is, their responsibilities lie not only with federal property, regulatory obligations, etc, but also with the Indigenous people of the U.S. Obama has met with tribal nations several times in his administration and will meet with them again in December, 2012; hope he listens to the Native governmental leaders on their suggestions for this position; hope that will be a qualified Native person.
