If Congress can't agree on a deal to avert the fiscal cliff, the president said taxes will rise by about $2,000 for the average family. NBC's Kristen Welker reports.
HATFIELD, Pa. -- President Obama today continued his efforts to push Congress to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for income below $250,000 with a visit to a toy factory here in suburban Philadelphia.
"We talked about this a lot... We had debates about it. There were a lot of TV commercials about it," Obama said. “At the end of the day, a clear majority of Americans -- Democrats, Republicans, independents -- they agreed with a balanced approach to deficit reduction and making sure that middle-class taxes don't go up.”
Recommended: White House 'surprised' by GOP 'surprise'
The non-partisan Tax Policy Center says if these tax cuts expire at the end of the year -- as they are set to do -- about 90% of Americans would paid more in taxes and middle-income families would see their taxes rise by about $2,000.
Obama didn’t present any new ideas in his first speech since House Republicans rejected Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s proposal that he presented in meetings with congressional leadership yesterday. That proposal included $1.6 trillion in tax increases, $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and other programs, and ending Congress' control of the debt limit.
But Obama did couch his frustration with Congress in humor.
“I've been keeping my own naughty and nice lists for Washington," he said at a Rodon Group plant that makes the popular K'nex brand of toys. "So you should keep your eye on who gets K'NEX this year. There are going to be some members of Congress who get them, and some who don't."

President Barack Obama looks over a rollercoaster with K'NEX Inventor Joel Glickman, left, and Rodon Group President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Araten, right, during a tour of the company in Hatfield, Pa. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.
Even the seriousness of the country’s fiscal health couldn’t keep the president from joking about his affable vice president.
Talking about the colorful toys in the factory, Obama said, “Joe Biden was in Costco. He wanted to buy some of this stuff. But I told him he had too much work to do. I wasn't going to have him building roller coasters all day long.”

One or two questions. What is the big deal with squeezing a little more revenue out of the people that can afford it? Why do the conservatives find this so damn hard to do? I keep hearing the same tired line about punishing job creators, I don't see any jobs being created so why not tax these people? Create multi-tiered tax levels to reward businesses that actually create jobs and reward firms for hiring returning veterans. I guess this type of solution would be too simple and make too much sense to work.
It isn't that we are opposed to taxes. It is that we are opposed to taxes going to a government that is bloated and wastes money. It is the same idea as giving money to a drunk. Unless he is sober, he is just going to waste the money. We also already have that multi-tiered tax level that you suggest.
Because it is too simple and would work and then the "Big" governement wuold have to get smaller with cuts that would fine them because Government does and never has created jobs, and Obama said so and that people who built their business didn't do it themselves with hard work from can see to can't see as they used to say i the old west, and it is true they did build it by themselvs, and now this administration want to share the wealth with dead beats who drive some of the best cars, ((Obama Money as has been said by those, both healthy men and women, who collect entitlements on video one of which was shown on primetime television by the video maker herslef, of which social Security is not an entitlemnent but an insurance paln piad for by a working tax payer for many years)), money can buy.
It is simple enough to work and they know it in Washington, but the sheep, of all political partys, who argue overmoot points can not see it, so they continue to fight like 5 years old s over who is right, and as you know stupid can not be fixed.
Wow,
Same whining Pubbies that thought the Electoral College was unfair complaining tonight. Why don't you guys ask Al Gore how he felt about the popular vote vs. Electoral College in 2000? Your memory is very short.
What a bunch of LOSERS!!!
whining losers
My taxes go up in January. Thanks Republicans
Oh, but wait...aren't these the guys who DON'T want your taxes to go up??
BLAME YOUR MESSIAH OBAMA not republicans numbskull.
I would be willing to pay the tax rates of any previous time period if they would also limit SPENDING to the SAME PERCENTAGE that was being spent during the time those tax rates existed. BUT they will NOT DO THAT or AGREE to that. Cutting spending is NEVER CONSIDERED.
Obama and those that want others money are disgusting, lazy, and stupid. Why don't Obama and government EVER talk about CUTTING SPENDING before asking for UNLIMITED ACCESS to other people's money by wanting the DEBT CEILING to a be a perpetual INCREASING GOVERNMENT PIGGY BANK for BLOATED and CORRUPT GOVERNMENT SPENDING that would NOT REQUIRE A VOTE BY CONGRESS?
Capital Cronyism is what Obama wants and that is a SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST method of being able to SPEND MONEY WITHOUT the TAXPAYERS CONSENT.
Instead of TAX and SPEND, which is NOT GOOD, now they want to have a UNLIMITED PERPETUAL ABILITY TO INCREASE the NATIONAL DEBT, which is SPEND AND TAX.
What people do not understand about how stupid and dangerous a National Debt that we have NOW is, I find flabbergasting.
I don't mind paying more taxes but NOT UNTIL Government CUTS the STUPID SPENDING and starts with unnecessary subsidies to anyone, and foreign aid, and then Defense, and then Entitlements and other idiotic programs...THEN come to me for more taxes and until then go to hell.
msnbctheliberallystupid,
Smoke a bong hit and go to bed. Try not to think of Grover Norquist, and relax.
Reality may come to you tomorrow.
We all here on the Vine won't hold our breaths!
No... blame the right wing obstructionists! Wonder what they will try to hold hostage this time... take the cliff I say!
When the new 8 dem members are sworn into office in Jan... along with a few reasonable repubs... there will be enough votes.
Checkered....How can you be so blind? Simply put, both sides are holding the middle class hostage. Republicans want to cut spending or else and democrats are saying if we can't raise taxes on the rich, then we will raise them on everyone (which is probably what they want anyways).
Wow leftwardbound..it took you all of TWO posts to say"blame those right wing obstructionists".. You must of slipped on the way to the mailbox this morning to collect your checks and you're a little slow..
I say take the cliff as well but you say it for different reasons..It wont hurt you because you dont have a job..You NEVER had a job, you never WILL have a job..Your rich uncle sam has taken care of you since birth and will probably bury you as well..So you KNOW your taxes aint going to go up..Me on the other hand want the cliff to come because ALL those people that were taken off the TAX BOOKS and didnt have to pay taxes anymore when Bush enacted the "tax cuts" will once again have to pay taxes..And I need so help so I can continue to keep your sorry A$$ on the draw..
You are sorry excuse for a human being... have read your previous posts... some of them should have been collapsed... nasty pig... you know nothing about me and the opinion of a toxic tea billy hack means absolutely nothing!
wow..Now that really hurts..I guess I aint getting a Christmas present from either you or obama this year..Complain enough to your idol Obama maybe he can get me banned for life..Now that would really hurt..Not being able to share my wisdom with you and your fellow whatever they are..
I have yet to read a single post of yours that should not be collapsed leftward bound. In fact, a permanent banning for you sounds in order.
Obama has the GOP by the short hairs. He doesn't have to do "jack". Come 1-1-13, the Bush tax Cuts expire, we return to the Clinton Tax rates for everybody and all he has to do is ask the Dems in Congress to present a Bill cutting taxes for those at $250K or less and let Cantor & Crew refuse to pass it and that willl be their asses in 2014. Turtle face McConnell is up for reelection in 2014 and is scared to death of being opposed in the Primary by a Tea bagger ( He saw what happened to Lugar) and he is scared that the Dems will find a strong Candidate to run against him from the Left who is backed by the Obama machine and he will be crushed by one or the other. Bonehead is scared that he will lose his Speaker's gavel, so he has to spout that Tea Bagger BS just so he looks like he is being tough to his Caucus, but he knows the handwriting is on the wall. Obama has them in a box and has them ready to cry Uncle.
GOP was all set to have their way because Obama was suppose to be weak and was one & done and all the other BS that I have seen posted here the last year. "You Libs just wait until 11/6/12, we are getting Obama outta there.. blah, blah, blah" How did that turn out for you Right Wingers? You were going to take back the Senate, instead you wound up losing 2 seats. About time you guys/gals faced reality, the Country is changing and we are moving away from that "White Privilege, hate all immigrants, dislike Blacks, give everything to the rich" mindset of the Republican party. Don't forget, your DNA as a party shows that you were losers from the inception of the party. The original GOP came into being when Northern Whigs formed the party as the Whig party went into obscurity. So unless you change your racist, hateful ways, you will be morphing into a new party again and hopefully, you will do better than being a "Southern, Good Ole Boy, No Respect for Women or anybody but Old White Men who listen to Limbaugh, Party. Find your way to the middle or find your way to the dust bin of History.
Don't forget, we have Hillary waiting for you in 2016 and she'll have 2 Presidents campaigning for her! Funny thing about that, we can put our Democratic Presidents out there on the Campaign trail, why can't the GOP use theirs??? (smile) Couldn't be because yours belongs in Jail could it?
They have always had the GOP by the short hairs and they have treated them that way. That is why nothing got done over the past 4 years. Democrats refused to compromise. Don't be an idiot and post lies about hating women and being racist. That just makes you look like a complete moron. Don't be absurd and actaully try to appear intelligent instead of just hateful and bitter.
Wow, thanks Eddie for proving you don't have a clue about the real problems let alone any solutions. Idiots like you that espouse the absolute bull shiit you posted are the real problem. You are a total waste of human flesh, and proof you can't fix stupid.
and I'm immoral? Listen to your anger and hatred Christian brother. You need help.
Idiots like him are the reason we have Obama for another 4 years..And yes Julia, I'm a racist
Blade...tx for your honesty.
Why r u racist?
I guess because I dont agree with the views obama has..Doesnt that automatically make me a Racist?
@Julia: Blade was being sarcastic. you just didn't get it, did you?
I have a problem with both sides demanding things instead of compromising. Why are the republicans saying no taxes whatsoever? It would be better if they said. If we cut spending back to Clinton levels then we will agree to roll back the Bush tax cuts. If we cut spending 1/2 way back to Clinton levels, then we will roll back half of the tax cuts. Seems fair to me.
It seems fair to me as well, but they will NEVER, EVER, consider cutting SPENDING because promising people other people's money is how they all get elected.
Well, when you buy votes with promises of spending money, then you kind of put yourself in a bind when it comes to being responsible.
You one line post idiots cannot come up with an argument against what I say and cannot come up with an argument to support you idiotic stands.
It is not rocket science, and all you morons do is make it into a high school type stupidity of rah, rah, rah for my side. I don't give a rats butt about ideologies or repugs or demorats. They are ALL to blame. But the SOLUTIONS are very simple to see but implementation of them is nearly impossible because people want things FREE or on the backs of others.
I know millionaires and poor people, and the rich are not against paying more but WHY? When government is NOT SPENDING WISELY what it has already WHY GIVE THEM MORE. It will NOT help the poor, and you are DELUDED if you think it will.
That is because they don't think. Someone else has to tell them what to say. Watch, the first thing you get back in response will probably some cut and paste post.
PAF....go back and read some of this guy's posts. He's a fundamentalist, a racist, a hysteric, a hypocrite, and fails to answer any post that reasonably questions his logic.
$1.6 trillion in tax increases vs. $400 billion in cuts...that's balanced right?
Who said anything about cuts? These are not cuts. They are slowing the increase. Lies like that is what got us into this mess in the first place.
i have a few choice words for congress concerning extending the middle class tax-cuts pres. obama wants..."DO IT and DO IT NOW!!!!!" president obama didn't get re-elected for nothing!!
romney not caring about the 47% and ryan busting up a classic rock guitar supposedly played by jimi hendrix(racism?) cost them their election rights...the ding-dongs!
Listen cock sucker..I'm pretty sure that obama wasnt crowned king just yet..We still have a few people left in this country that can tie their shoes without the government telling them when, where and how to..
wow... you bring scumtard to a whole new level... nasty, hate filled tea billy... rotting the soul of this country!
Except for one fact here. If they give you your tax cut then that is all that will be done. Obama ran on a promise to take a balanced approach to cut spending, and cut loop holes for the rich, stop giving tax break's for company's that go oversea's.
Now he just through all that out the window, and lied about a balanced approach, and you can 100% forget about closing those loopholes, and the 1% will more as much as the can oversea's so it can never be taxed.
Let me make sure I understand... more regulations, more taxes on small business and more government spending creates jobs?
Yep....That is the liberal way. In order to create jobs, we must penalize the people that create them.
Actually, yes! Regulations can force too big corporations to divest themselves, like we divested AT&T in the past from the smaller Bell companies. Regulations can make the business climate better, while cleaning our skies and protecting our mid-west aquifirs from the XL pipelines, that will leak if we allow them to be built!
Regulations are not the enemy. Lack of regulations allow the greed of coal corporations to chop off the tops of mountains, without a care in the world about the folks who live in the valleys below, whose water supplies will be undrinkable.
Tax increases on businesses who ship jobs overseas, in conjunction with tax breaks for those small businesses who are willing to bring the businesses back from Communist China could be a real boon to our manufacturing sector.
The GOP ideas that you trolls are planting have no value and just take up page space. Why don't you GOP lovers just get back in your trucks and go back to your stills and leave the figurin' to people with brains for a change.
The GOP messed us up really bad for the last 12 years, and now want to claim it is all President Obama's fault? Go back to your little hidey-holes and read something factual, and turn off that danged Rush Limbaugh, who is a harbinger of hell upon this fruitful nation! Leave the Democrats alone! They didn't launch the two wars....George Bush and your GOP did that, all by yourselves and the neo-cons and Tea baggers that have taken over your Grand Old Party.
Sit back! Relax! If the Democrats really mess things up, without your GOP guys blocking all their legislation, then you can blame Obama. But let's make this clear! President Obama is not the majority influence in the House of Representatives and that is squarely upon the Republicans, who refuse to pass any of his bills! Unless the GOP pulls back and let's Obama enact his visions, then Americans can only blame the GOP for obstructionism!
Americans are getting angry with the GOP! Mitch McConnell is the squeaky wheel, but the Tea Party and the extremist views the GOP represents are no longer viable in this America we all love. Giving more to the rich will never pay down our national debt! Our economy did well under the taxes we had under Clinton.
President Obama will be forced by the GOP to let the taxes increase on everyone, just to satisfy the desires of the rich, if the GOP refuses to pass a seperate bill to stop it. The ball is in the GOP's hands in the House of Representatives, and Americans are watching closely.
Yep, thats the type of leader you sorry bastards elected again..we're in the midst of a financial meltdown and he's off somewhere playing with friggin toys..Thats real leadership if ever I saw it..you lazy 47%ers dont care cause you think you'll get your check reguardless..I hope he F U C KS you all royal..Remember, you're just fodder to him now..He doesnt need your vote anymore..
Oh, the strong stench of that tea billy brand of Christianity... boy, won't we miss that when it is gone... NOT!
Where was Mitt for the last two weeks? Cruising down PCH, trolling for support at the gas station, and then off to Disneyland, while this nation is in the hands of the GOP he failed to get a win for? What is the GOP in Congress doing, while our President is taking a few days off, before taking another four years of the GOP obstructionism? There are 3 tiers of government. Obama can only sign or reject the bills the GOP pass in the House, and can't approve or disapprove the bills that GOP Mitch McConnell will filibuster in the Senate.
The President deserves a few days off, after having to suffer GOP lies for the last four years! He is our President, whether you elected him or not! Show some respect, man!
Oh leftward..I'm hurt again..Calling me such names..Christianity would probably do you some good..No matter what brand it is..
He's going to take a few days off..20 to be exact..he and the first family are going on vacation to Hawaii for 20 days for christmas..Tax payer funded ofcourse.. At a bargan base price of a measly 4 million dollars
If the top 1% pay over 40% of the federal income taxes and the bottom 40% pay 0% in federal income taxes, that's fair right?
The top 1% owns 40%+ of America's wealth
An American, making enough to live comfortably, shouldn't whine about paying more if he can afford to do so! No one hates the rich. It is the vows, from the GOP, on their knees, to the Grover Norquist pledge to never raise taxes, that is the problem.
Middle Class wages have not kept up with the greed of the rich for the last 40 years! Isn't it about time we gave the workers some respect voluntarily? Or do we have to legislate it, because the corporations refuse to raise wages?
With all the tax breaks the rich get, they can't stop from hiding their profits in the Cayman Islands! Taxes wouldn't need to be increased if the rich didn't game "the system". So, because the rich "game the system", we shouldn't feel bad passing tax increases upon them. It's as simple as that.
Let Texas go over the cliff
Robme paid 14 percent in 2011... I paid 28 percent... thats fair, right, neo?
And when Romney paid that 14% he paid a little over $3 MILLION DOLLARS in TAXES..How much did you pay??..Is that fair Leftwardbound?
shut up tea billy hack... no one cares about your filthy mouth and toxic opinion.
Did I strike a nerve leftward?? why dont you answer the question?..You brought the subject up..Romney paid over $3 MILLION in taxes last year, and you're tax liability was?..
Well, lets just say for sake of agrument that you made $50 thousand ..Thats about right because you said you paid 28%..You tax liability would be roughly $14 thousand before deductions, probably around $10 thousand..so useing that math, you would have to work for 300 years to pay the same taxes that romney paid in ONE year..thats fair right?
I seriously doubt you paid 28 percent. There are simply too many deductions out there for anyone with half a brain to pay 28%. You would have to have a high income and not be smart enough to own a home, not take advantage of any retirement planning, not use the alternative energy tax credits, etc. High income and not very smart behaviour usually don't go together.
I read Blade's post twice and nothing in it indicates he has a "filthy mouth" or a "toxic opinion." Your post however, does display those characteristics. Just saying....
This is bizarro world, where the GOP believes that the poor, who they plan to rob, should give money to the rich, who the GOP believes are more deserving, and that will somehow begin to pay down our national debts, that the GOP squandered away on two mis-handled and frivolous wars, leading to many American casualties, and that the GOP refuses to support now that our soldiers are returning to us.
The GOP, who drowns our nation in debt, and refuses to allow our elected President to get our job machine working again, seeks to have unintelligent minions try to convince Americans that the GOP was not at fault?
How stupid do you think Americans are? We all have a much clearer picture of what Republicans represent now, and your numbers shall dwindle, even with your media and vote blocking and gerrymandering!
There will be hell to pay in the next election if the Republicans refuse to do their job in the House of Representatives again, while being responsible for our budgets! If the GOP thinks there was an uprising against them in this election, and there was, just wait and see what the American voters can do to send the GOP over the cliff they love to live on, overlooking the rising oceans, in their homes, with car elevators, and ignoring the tidal wave American voters shall unleash upon the GOP in two years!
The GOP can't win if Americans don't think the GOP represents them! The GOP was given notice in this election! Will the GOP learn from it, or just bury their heads in the sand and bury our nation, because of the GOP fealty to a bunch of rich dudes, who hide the taxes that could pay down our national debts, that the GOP caused, with tax reductions and two wars and bank deregulations, just so 400 greedy families can hide the wealth in the Cayman tax havens!
Prepare to be launched......
.....trickle up poverty.....
It just dawned on me that trying to talk sence to a lifelong Democrat is like trying to tell an Irainian terrorist to love the Israelis..It aint gonna happen..
Show me examples Jack where the Republicans plan to rob the poor and give it to the rich?? That little pisswad pentence that they could get from the poor is pocket change to them anyways, so why would they want it?..they wipe their A$$ on more than we could give them..You all are like the terrorists that I eluded to..From birth, you all have been taught that the Republicans want to rob the poor..Dont vote Republican..Republicans are BAD..Just like the terrorist that is brought up to hate little satan..You all are lik eMy grandaddy voted Democrat and BY GOD I'm voting Democrat because HE did....It boils down to jealousy..You all are jealous that someone might have something that you dont have and will never have and you see a way that you might get it.I really hate to give you all the bad news but are you aware that in this country there are actually MORE rich DEMOCRATS then they are REPUBLICANS?? Why the dimwit republicans fight for tax breaks for you sorry bastards is beyond me..If it were me, I'd tax you bastards at 90%..and when i spent that, I'd come back for the other 9%..Just because I've got a heart, I'd leave you 1%..You all like to throw around that number 1% anyways dont you?
I was once a republican and voted republican. Years ago as I saw the religious right begin to take over, I left.
I am not jealous of rich people BLade. I resent their attitudes about being rich. I am not by any means poor, I do well for myself, I own 3 small companies and am starting a 4th.....I take care of me and mine. I work very hard at least 6 days a week, and pay plenty of taxes. Lots of taxes.
I dont want what the really wealthy have......too much stuff. The only thing they have that I would like more of is choice....they can make better choices than I and many others can because they can afford to pay for any choice they make. Other than that, I'm not interested in being super rich. I'm happy with my life.
Thanks for the honesty Julia, now here is mine..I never was or am a republican, I'm independent, but I lean towards conservative though..As far as the religious right taking over the republicans, I'm not so sure, but I'll agree with the statement that there are just as many krazy people in BOTH parties and BOTH parties would better serve us all if they were more in the middle..
I'm not jealous of rich people either and maybe its just because we're from different parts of the country, but I know some {not a gang} rich people and they are for the most part the sweetest people you ever want to meet..Sure some are A$$holes, but that can be said about any group..
I'm not a business owner, but I've worked hard all my life for what I have..I'm one of seven children..there were 10 of us that lived in the same house at the same time..My parents worked..everyday..some nights we went to bed hungry..but not one day during those years did we EVER get public assistance or food stamps or whatever you want to call it..We had it hard..But we survived..We made our own way
Just down the road from us, lived another family of roughly the same number of individuals..From the earliest memories I have, they did NOT work..They were on Public assistance, welfare, food stamps..Anything they could get..It wasnt that they werent ABLE to work, they just didnt..They raised their WHOLE generation of children on the government..And guess who's tax dollars it took to keep them going?..To top it off, he had babies with his OWN friggin daughters and nOTHING was said about it by the state..And one was in the 7th grade!!..I know, she was in my class
My father died when he was 69, worked till he was 65 retired, then died..That sorry bastard that lived down the track lived till he was almost 90..He never had to hurt himself doing work I guess.
So forgive me if I have a great big dislike for people that wont work and have never worked and have been taken care of from cradel to birth by the government useing my hard earned tax dollars to pay for them...And taxing more{not just me, ANYBODY} without even trying to talk cutting out the WASTE that the government does is just unacceptable to me.. I dont care one bit to help someone that needs help, like i said, I know the feeling, but to just give t people that abuse the system is not right
so there's my story..thanks for sharing yours..
LOL!!
The godless immoral liberal Julia would not know what is "right" in the first place. I am independent but glad to see Julia is with her other godless immoral perverts now.
She oppresses her 'slave' and yet claims she 'cares' about others, however, she is for abortions and godless immorality. What a joke.
POTUS: Please give me everything I want and I promise I will not lead the sheep off the cliff...Really I promise...
14% of $250 million is significant when you do not get social security, welfare, disability, union benefits, free college, free housing free food, medicare, etc.
There's a movement growing as minimum wage earners are saying enough! From McDonalds to Wal-Mart, workers are organizing. Republican legislators want the lower tier of the 47%, to remain in that lowest class while their Super Rich masters reap the profit from their sweat and hardship
FYI your tax rate may be 28%, but I bet dime to daollar your marginal tax rate is less than 20%.
Bad bet! If he is in the 28% tax bracket, then it is mathematically impossible for his effective tax rate to be above 20%. However, his marginal tax rate is 28%. The marginal rate is the rate on the next dollar earned.
Catholic Bishops blasted Ryan's buget as aathema to Christian principles. Now the Republican Congress wants to crash the economy to score points with the nuts in the Tea Party
Yhbua.....the christian principles flung around here are distortions and mere statements of self-righteousness. Mostly about sex, sexuality, immorality, and godlessness, and women....the obsessions of some on the right.
The caucus hold the Pubs hostage.....why I dont know, they're not a majority. They act like they OWE them something, which they do not. Karl Rove expected a lot from them, and by his own words, is sorely disappointed.
Seems like the democrats want to crash the economy to score political points with those envious of the rich.
Oh you mean the REST of the country.
the GOP has come to stand for the Rich People. The Corporation and their Lobbyist. They would sell America piece by piece if it came with the promise of makin their Rich masters richer.
Do I believe that is all of the GOP? No some are good decent people. The Tea Party are insane.
Julia is a godless immoral liberal who would not know anything about any kind of righteousness of God. She makes God into an idol of her own desires and ignores God and what he has said.
The blind leading the blind means they all fall off the "cliff".
Michael Wells....your saying the dems don't do that? Funny thing is of the 19 richest in congress 11 of those are DEMS...they cater to the rich, the CEO's etc so before pointing finger at someone look to see what the other guy is doing as well..
Can anyone on the left, tell me in economic terms how increasing the cost of labor when their is excess labor is going to solve our economic problems? Keep in mind the supply and demand curve, floors, etc. Please tell me their is someone who voted for POTUS that understands this isunsustainable.
Nice,.. a sophomore Econ student... Stunning...
Tell me billy ray bob,.. why is there an "excess" of labor ??
Any thoughts???... Feel free to throw something out there...
Then we can discuss Bain Capital, and Freeport IL...
You think that 7.8% unemployment (and much higher "real" unemployment if you count the people who want to work but have given up) is not excessive? What do you consider an excess of labor?
Apparently, mommy put our little sophomore student to bed...
how touching...
Let's discuss Bain Capital and Freeport, IL and how Obama's policies are pushing those jobs overseas instead of keeping them here.
But,.. but,.. but,. but... but... but...
What about the rich people?????
They just won't have the money to stick in offshore tax haven accounts, ..like willard.... They won't be able to afford car elevators,... and dancing horses.... and CA seaside mansions.....
Tax them, till they scream..... tax them till they have to consider the very real possibility of life among the 47%.....
That;s ok....the climate change they don't believe in is going to cause their homes to be gobbled up when the monster storms hit.
They will still have money. They will simply take the money out of the economy, put it overseas and harm the 47% in the process.
we have no one to blame but ourselves for this gridlock- when we had the opportunity to replace all the representatives and a third of the senators we elected to keep the status quo-so all the comments in the world will not affect the outcome- does anyone really think that once elected those aholes listen to anyone except the lobbyists?
the lobbyists....the fourth branch of government.....
the fourth? I thought they were the first (and only).
Higher Individual Tax Rates May Increase Employment and Economic Growth
by economist Barry Elias
"In 1958, the top individual rate was 91 percent, while the top corporate rate was 52 percent. In this environment, there was more incentive to retain profits and invest in infrastructure and employees, which permitted enormous economic growth.
Today, the reverse is true. Corporate rates are higher than are individual rates at all levels of net income. While there is incentive for proprietors to receive more income at lower marginal tax rates, it undermines future investment, which fosters economic stagnation.
Higher individual tax rates will provide the necessary incentives for corporations to invest more in developing successful and sustainable businesses. Typically, this manifests in more productive processes, greater employment, higher incomes and more tax revenues."
You forgot to post the last paragraph of his article:
In lieu of higher individual tax rates, stronger economic growth can be realized by reducing corporate tax rates to more globally competitive levels. The latter seems more prudent.
Such a sophomoric article. Times have changed since the 1950's. We have far more regulations. Communication and business has expanded worldwide and we are no longer the only super power.
The problem we have once again is that the republicans are going to hold the unemployed hostage with this tax situation. If we don't continue the tax breaks, they won't fund the extended unemployment benefits and over 5,000,000 Americans will be cut off unemployment. We have to do it, but still we can get rid of 1 tax break - the 2% social security tax credit. The republicans don't care about it since it isn't coming out of the Treasury, but rather just under funding social security. So, we should continue the tax cuts, as bad as they are but get rid of the 2% social security tax credit and restore the proper funding to social security. All of this could have been avoided had Harry Reid ended the Senate fillibuster rule from 2008-2010, when the democrats were in complete control of the government. The democrats brought this situation on themselves.
I don't make over $250,000 a year but dont's see why they alone should have to suffer due to government over spending. Why not cut all spending, cut all foreign aid and implement a flat tax so that everyone pays their fare share? What happens when there still isn't enough money when the rich are taxed and the goverment needs even more money to fund it's wasteful spending? Eventually the people making 50, 60, 70 or 80 thousand dollars will be taxed to fuel goverment waste.
