It has been reported that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was less than impressed with the White House's fiscal-cliff proposal. So unimpressed was the Kentucky Republican that he burst out into laughter.
A senior administration official provided more detail. When Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner handed over the White House's proposal to McConnell, McConnell looked at it and smiled a smile that said, "Yeah right."
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile," Geithner responded.
At which point, McConnell burst out laughing.
*** UPDATE *** A Republican congressional source says that Geithner's proposal was oral, not written. And the source argues that McConnell "found their un-serious offer amusing."

Everybody in the United States with an IQ over 60 knows what is behind Mitch McConnells' laugh. McConnell laughed (rightfully so) because in his (Obama's) opening proposal our racist wannabe tyrant-in-chief sought unilateral authority to raise the debt ceiling, another attempt to bypass the people's elected representation yet again.

Doesn't anyone find it sickly amusing that during the Bush years, the GOP said the deficit didn't matter, and encouraged us the patriotic thing to do was spend money. Now for the past four years they are all concerned about the deficit (for our children's and grandchildren's sake), yet are unwilling to come up with the new revenue, by the people who should be helping out......BECAUSE THEY CAN AND SHOULD!!!! The worn out theory/joke trickle down has not worked and only leads to senseless greed, and monopolization, with many of the best products and ideas being squashed. Well, given what Obama proposed (I assume it was what Obama wanted), I can't blame him for laughing. I expect the fiscal cliff to happen. So taxes go up (back to what they were in the 1990s). We will all pay higher taxes anyway and the fiscal cliff is likely overstated. I also expect 4 more years of gridlock. That seems to be the way Washington works now.
jg2011, you maybe correct about the stalemate or gridlock. And when the sides reverse, which we all know will happen, then lets hear the outcry when a Dem Senator says "our mission is to make him a one term President".
And we might see that happening. Right now all people can do is to write their elected crooks and tell them what you think should be done. If those elected crooks aren't too busy filling their pockets with lobby money, they may answer you. But don't count on that either, most likely you will be ignored.

Rational people are joining together today in large numbers and demanding a return to the CENTER in American politics. We are demanding petitions of recall against terrorists such as McConnell and want to replace them with good, patriotic Americans who are committed to a CENTERIST approach to resolving the nation's problems. We don't care whether those people are Republicans, Democrats, Independent, or Green Party Candidates. We will, however, insist that they work together in a rational, civil, and patriotic method of problem solving. We are calling on the people of Kentucky to demand a petition of RECALL against McConnell and replace him ASAP. We are encouraging residents of other states to demand petitions of recall against any of their far right wing, extremist, fanatical representatives who are working against the best interests of the people. When you are approached to sign such a petition, I hope you will give it your strongest consideration!

Time to bring multi-millionaire McConnell into port to be scraped from the senate for the salvation of our government. In the meantime, the rest of the nation suffers because (just as an obstructive barnacle can render a ship useless) McConnell does the same with his obstruction of senate business.

Mr. McConnell reminds me of the reincarnation of the late Gov. George Wallace who touted for years,"...Segregation now and segregation forever..." while he tried to stop integration efforts in Alabama. Well, I can just imagine that Gov. Wallace is probably a hero of his, or maybe the late Bull Connor, Lester Maddox and Strom Thurmmond. Americans better get on the stick to get their Congressperson to pass tax cuts for the 98% FIRST, while they squabble about what to do about the 2%. This seems very reasonable and something Pres. Obama stated during the election and was, yes and get over it GOP-Tea Party, re-elected. I believe that Pres. Obama who is open to compromise, but must stand firm on this point. Otherwise, there will be consequences for the GOP-Tea Party who will be blamed and rightly so!

Who created this National Debt? Why can't the same people fix it? Could it be because the spending that was created would hurt the very Party that wants to end it and there for they are only telling you they want it ended while voting for it to continue? Ever since Reagan, the debt has been climbing, Clinton half way got it straighten out, then GW Bush, two unpaid for wars, no bid contracts to VP Cheney's buddies, billions of dollars stacked on pallets lost in Iraq, which had to be replaced, at our expense.
