It has been reported that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was less than impressed with the White House's fiscal-cliff proposal. So unimpressed was the Kentucky Republican that he burst out into laughter.
A senior administration official provided more detail. When Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner handed over the White House's proposal to McConnell, McConnell looked at it and smiled a smile that said, "Yeah right."
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile," Geithner responded.
At which point, McConnell burst out laughing.
*** UPDATE *** A Republican congressional source says that Geithner's proposal was oral, not written. And the source argues that McConnell "found their un-serious offer amusing."

McConnell is proof that there is no maturity requirement for public office. He acts like a spoiled teenager. Time to go, Mitch. Or grow up. You decide.
What makes him laugh is his total disdain for anyone not in the 1%. A club be enjoys belonging too and is committed to defending. Another GOP-AWG who wants to do all he can to toe the party line. The good thing is that if they do run us off the cliff the polls show overwhelming understanding by middle-America that the Republican party is to blame and that they plan to place that blame during the mid-term elections. So either way this goes America wins now with a better budget or less 'Pubs and then a better budget.
Let's see, I think GOP will take the deal of no taxes for any republican....if they get that, next they will repeal Lincoln's freeing people and make all non-repubs their slaves. Then they will say look, we took care of you better when you were owned by us so why are you complaining?
When McConnell smiles his chinless chin does not look as bad!! He's just trying to forget his vow to make President Obama a one term president. Now it's time for him to eat some crow!!

That was a laugh, more like a border-line hysterical cackle. If the republicans walk or refuse to negotiate in a meaningful manner, the American people will come down on the recalcitrant toads. It would be a win win for America, if the GOP refuses to budge the Temporary Tax cuts expire, new congress in Jan., and new tax laws granting the Middle class permanent tax relief, and of course, ending Filibuster rules that have allowed McConnell to stymie the President and stagnate the American economy. Let 'er rip boys.

It's shameful that elected Republicans openly mock and laugh at the idea of low taxes on the middle- and working-class unless they are also allowed to hand over bags of money to their rich friends as part of the deal.
This McConnell is one big @!$%#. I hope he loses his seat in the next election.

Mitch like most house members are more concerned with Ideology than country. He is up for reelection in 2014 and does not want other tea partiers trying to squeeze him out because he compromised - which in fact most of the country wants done.

Have a Freddie Mac loan and getting to refinance at 3.75% even tho I'm 50% underwater with my house. Thanks federal government. With the money I'm going to save each month I guess I'll be able to afford the taxes if the republicans fail to act and we go over the cliff. However can you imagine how pissed the voters will be in 2 years if Washington can't get anything done?? (BTW mortgages are usually like prime plus 3 points so money right now is basically almost free). When the economy picks up and things start to inflate, we WILL NOT be able to afford the interest on the national debt. Yes, even Democrats get this and UNLIKE some people we do understand our MATHS!
If you take the time to read what Tim Geithner is proposing i.e, more taxes and more spending by our Government then you would probably think it was a bad joke and laugh too?? He also said the cuts would come later and are undefined as of now.
McConnell is a joke - but we are not laughing.
It's ashamed that McConnell can't let it go! I believe an African-American President "offends" his sensibilities...he needs to stop re-fighting the Civil War...the south LOST That One, just like The Republicans lost this last election!
The richest men in America don't need billions in tax-cuts...they already have more $$ than they'll spend in a lifetime. There is no reason for all this greed. Instead of their own interests, they should be concerned with the wealth-building of our nation, and the middle-class that made their wealth possible.

does anyone here ever read more than one article from more than one source? try reading the same article from 3 different news agencies and you will be eable to get most of the truth. the reason the WH started off with a proposal like this is because when they made real compromise in the past and republicans wouldnt pass antything without asking for more and more. so it is bargaining 101 if i want to opay you $50 for an item i dont start the offers at $50 i start at $5. wait for a counter offer and see feel out what the other side wants or needs for this to happen. Learn to think please..........

All TRUE Americans should refuse to pay taxes(at least the portion that is appropriated for paying the laughing Hyena and his cronies salary) until they get back to doing their job. Hostess employees got fired for doing their job and we let these azzholes like McConnel get away with sabatoging our country. The true terrorists we need to be afraid of are these azzholes in congress that refuse to even vote on a bill.
Shouldn't this laughing fool be tapping shoe heels in the men's room instead of showing his prowess on the senate floor at our expense.
I think the President has placed the Republicans into a box and is just playing with them now. The President's "proposal" is far from doable and he knows it. What he wants to do is have the Republicans reject it as he is touring the country telling everyone how hard he is trying to work with them. When the "negotiations" fail and the sequestration kicks in, the Republicans will take a huge hit politically. Tax rates will revert back to the pre-Bush era for everyone. Wall Street will take a huge hit and the big donors will abandon the Right. The President will then announce the Democrats proposal of tax CUTS for those making below 250K, retroactive to January 1, 2013. The result would be the revenue is raised from the top earners while the automatic cuts to the military would proceed. Just what the president campaigned on. The Republicans wouldn't dare vote AGAINST a tax cut for the middle class. Game... Set... Match !!!
Voting ind./ That sounds logical to me,but I think that it shows us that the house of Reps are truly dysfunctional and we should insist that as they are obviously paid too much for what they do that we,yes we, should set their wages and benefit's and check on their worth as they enter the job that we hire them for and have a true and thorough check of their gross worth as they leave ,also that their punishment for prov-en guilty of accepting bribes should be severely punished with jail time and disallow them from having any contact with lobbyists or government officials.

The TRUE Americans are the middle class. They spend their heard earned money right here in America. Any taxes they get back they put it back into our economy. The tax breaks the millionaires get are invested in the Cayman Islands or any one of numerous other countrys. Mitt Romney proved trickle down doesn't work. He fudged his own taxes so he could say that he paid 13%. Guess he didn't need the other $225,000 he was entitled to. But you can be assured he will file an amended return so he can put that money into the Cayman Islands economy.
I think the President needs to make a military tax. Just send the army to the Cayman Islands and go threw the banks and any one exploiting and getting rich off of are country gets a 35% tax to pay for are military!
