NBC News has learned that Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will be named chair of the House Administration Committee. Miller did not serve on the committee during the 112th Congress.
Lack of diversity has been an issue for the GOP, and many strategists believe that the party’s problems with women and minorities led to President Obama’s re-election.
Miller has been in Congress since 2003, and her highest committee level post is on the House Homeland Security Committee.
The House Administration Committee deals with the pertinent administrative business of the House. The committee can decide such mundane things as whether or not the House cafeterias will use paper or Styrofoam plates -- or more serious matters such as benefit packages for congressional workers and how the Library of Congress operates. The Committee also monitors the expense accounts of House members.
House Speaker John Boehner issued this statement: “From ensuring the House runs efficiently and smoothly, to making Congress more open and accessible, Candice has a big job ahead as chairman of the House Administration Committee. In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents. And her experience as Michigan secretary of state will be invaluable given the committee’s oversight of campaign finance and election laws.

So let me get this straight, Boner appointed a woman as a sort of "head housekeeper" of the House? Decisions about what kind of table service to use? And watching out for administrative expenses? What could possibly be MORE OFFENSIVE to women?!?!
Oh goody, the GOP has picked a woman for a leadership position. One women. Now that is what they call diversity. Next they'll be including Hispanics, Asians, African Americans, and dare I say it ....a token gay person. Well, at least they are trying to look like their tent is big enough for all no matter how sour it tastes to them.

I have become a political junkie, thanks to the stupidity of the RWNJ/TP/GOP. When I have the time to get on here, I can't wait to see what stupidity they have committed for the day.

GOP shamed into giving a woman a Chair"man"ship, then they give her the secretary-type Admin position.
Will she have to make small batch martinis for them at 6pm too? Wear Madmen style corsets and peplum dresses?

I'm not sure which one is more disturbing:
A) The GOP didn't notice this glaring issue from the beginning (especially given the recent election)
B) The GOP only changed the position AFTER the media noted it
C) The GOP inacted their own sense of affirmative action quota, rather than sticking to their original pick and saying, "We picked the most qualified individuals. Period."
In regards to C), I would have had a lot more respect for them if they made a statement like that. Still, it seems they just don't get it.
These sudden changes in the GOP policies smell of a lack of sincerity. Lack of diversity or lack of sincerity, both are a problem for the GOP.
Lack of intelligence, lack of trustworthiness, might be a problems too.
I guess they like Affirmative Action after all.
Republicans are too obsessed with denying science, gay bashing, and protecting fetuses to think clearly.
They will probably blame the lack of women chairs on Mitt Romney because he did not share his binders full of women...

gop is apparently still at the point where they supply a "token" to meet a criticism. doesn't seem to be occurring organically from within their ranks just yet. they'll get there in another 20 or 30 years, don't worry. they apparently haven't gotten the news that women VOTE in greater numbers than men do.

These guys are in safe districts, gerrymandered by Republican State Legislatures...they don't care and can afford to be "tone deaf." They are, personally, immune from removable. Of course, they effectively deprive the Party from ever electing another President, but why should they care?
