NBC News has learned that Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will be named chair of the House Administration Committee. Miller did not serve on the committee during the 112th Congress.
Lack of diversity has been an issue for the GOP, and many strategists believe that the party’s problems with women and minorities led to President Obama’s re-election.
Miller has been in Congress since 2003, and her highest committee level post is on the House Homeland Security Committee.
The House Administration Committee deals with the pertinent administrative business of the House. The committee can decide such mundane things as whether or not the House cafeterias will use paper or Styrofoam plates -- or more serious matters such as benefit packages for congressional workers and how the Library of Congress operates. The Committee also monitors the expense accounts of House members.
House Speaker John Boehner issued this statement: “From ensuring the House runs efficiently and smoothly, to making Congress more open and accessible, Candice has a big job ahead as chairman of the House Administration Committee. In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents. And her experience as Michigan secretary of state will be invaluable given the committee’s oversight of campaign finance and election laws.

Love it....they put the only woman on the "administrative committee"....isn't that like, well, a secretarial position?!! No...the GOP has a long way to go to undo the War on Women and this didn't make a dent!
Seems like the GOP has a new Superhero, "TOKEN WOMAN", can sharpen pencils at outrageous speeds, can copy with no paper jams! What WILL they think of next? Gotta hand it to their creativity!
The republican leadership is so isolated that they actually think that tossing a political bone to a token female will fix their problem and not cause any negative backlash. Republicans do not like women. The republicans do not feel that women have the right to control their bodies. By using reverse upside-down backward logic it is possible to justify forcing a woman to have a child even if she israped by her father. These republicans are some very sick people. Remember, God will step in and decide if everything is OK at the moment of conception, so the pregnancy will not occur if it is not “right by God”. If it is not, God will step in and “unpregnificate” the conception, so nothing bad can possibly happen. Divine intervention is everywhere at the same time, so nothing bad can possibly happen to the daughter or the child.
The problem for the republicans is that the republicans poked the wrong country in the eye with a stick
in 2012. I do not know who came up with the idea of poking the Blue States the US in the eye, but it worked. They did wake up. And they did vote. In large numbers. The republicans kept the house through gerrymandering. More Americans voted for democratic house candidates than republican house candidates. Republicans decided that cheating was OK in 2001. Cheating has been their modus operandi ever since. Voter suppression is just another form of cheating. In the white christian male republican moral universe, the end justifies the means. All that the republicans want is power, and they will use any means necessary to keep that power.
Republicans also like to have their women barefoot and in the kitchen, not in a position of power or equality. “Keeping them down on the farm” as the republicans like to say. Remember; according to a white christian male republican a woman DOES NOT deserve equal pay for equal work. In the eyes of a white christian male republican women aren’t really what they think of as “one hundred percent human”. How could they be, they were made out of a rib? Women are delegated to a lower percentage, say 70%. Then you work your way down. Chinese are 69%. Japanese are 68%. And so on. Our Founding Fathers assigned a negro salve a "human percentage factor" of 60%, so 60% should be the lower bound percentage other than illegal aliens. The correlation is pretty easy. The earnings ratios for the different sexes and races in republican America are the same as their “human percentage factor”. If you are a woman, you get 70% of the wages for the same work, so you are 70% of a “real human”. Your “human percentage factor” and your “political weight” and your “economic power” are the same number.

Just when we thought the republicans could not possible get any phonier. This woman was not even ON the committee that she just got named chair of! The GOP seems to think they can hold up one or two token women and latinos and win their vote that way. There is not so much as a scrap of integrity in this party.
Does it even occur to Republicans that if they are going to pretend to care about women, that they'd make an appointment that at least makes sense and isn't likely to offend women? Why not have her be in charge of the committee on Homeland Security? Why put her in charge of the one committee that makes the appointment look condescending? Or are they so desperate to pretend that there is no "War on Women" that they grasp at any straws?
Why do the retardicans have climate change deniers on the house science committee really? Fing really. Or someone like Rubio in the senate who claims not to know how old the world is these are the kind of fruit cakes they have on these committees. RELIGION HAS NO PLACE IN POLITICS. To sit on the science comittee you should have to believe in science. NO republican is qualified to handle any job especially those that sign norquist's vile pledge.

mcpaddywack, we scientists had to change the name from Global Warming to Climate Change due to Republicans not able to comprehend what global warming really meant. They thought it was a total warming of the entire planet instead of starting at the Arctic cap causing cold water to move into the oceans causing more energy in the climate. So we started using the word Climate Change so their small minds could comprehend it. And then there was the attacks on climate scientists and earth scientists from the Republicans that they were using science as a political tool.
Do you recall when the White House under Junior editing scientific documents using an individual who claimed to have a degree but was exposed of never completing college? Of course we cannot forget the Bob Jones College grads that were appointed to White House positions to shape the World and politics in their image, Creationism. We were entering another Dark Ages during that administration. We are beginning to climb out of that hole.

They never could have accepted a successful Black man (Herman Cain) as it doesn't fit into their narrative. As a bonus, she also served as a "belly warmer" for President Stink's family in the homeland.
Democrats would NEVER allow a full blooded Black person, with a family slavery background to run their party! The GOP will attempt to ingratiate as many of the demographic groups they have failed with frequently in the past as possible.
These moves are less a matter of change in principle,...as a clever (or not so clever) marketing campaign that they will attempt to garner votes from those demographic groups with.
For example,...they are looking at a Cuban American senator from Texas with the last name of "CRUZ".
Hey everyone,...you can trust the GOP now,...they have "woman" chairing their congressional committee,...and are "shopping for" a Latino presidential candidate to "market" their message.
With the GOP,...the main issue is protecting their big money masters,...everything else that they have always,...allllways,.....ALLLLLLLWAYS stood for and been known for is subject to change and "prostitutable" to gain the votes and thereby the power they need to straight arm the middle class in the face.
The GOP are hostage holders. They will gladly drive the nation off the cliff if you interfere with the priorities of their corporate masters. You motherf'rs BELONG to the wealthy and corporate overlords,...give the GOP what they want OR YOU WILL ALL PAAAAAAAY.

The Liberal Press has no business reporting on private GOP politics at all. The Press should be banned from reporting on GOP politics without the editing approval of the Republican Party. Why don't the Liberal Press concentrate on bashing Obama for this lousy recession his policies have dropped us into ever since 2007-2008.

Why does anyone care? Let the voters decide what is relevant. "Assignments" are ways the party "pays back" people and each party does their own thing.
