NBC News has learned that Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will be named chair of the House Administration Committee. Miller did not serve on the committee during the 112th Congress.
Lack of diversity has been an issue for the GOP, and many strategists believe that the party’s problems with women and minorities led to President Obama’s re-election.
Miller has been in Congress since 2003, and her highest committee level post is on the House Homeland Security Committee.
The House Administration Committee deals with the pertinent administrative business of the House. The committee can decide such mundane things as whether or not the House cafeterias will use paper or Styrofoam plates -- or more serious matters such as benefit packages for congressional workers and how the Library of Congress operates. The Committee also monitors the expense accounts of House members.
House Speaker John Boehner issued this statement: “From ensuring the House runs efficiently and smoothly, to making Congress more open and accessible, Candice has a big job ahead as chairman of the House Administration Committee. In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents. And her experience as Michigan secretary of state will be invaluable given the committee’s oversight of campaign finance and election laws.

wow Joe. who do you think put forth the FIRST female veep offer? her name was Ferraro running with Mondale. it took GOP 40 some years to come up with the THOUGHT and then the pulled out an idiot. A JOB comes with a pay scale, not a PENIS. having a veep who ran a state that rolled back the lily ledbetter act AND who's governor stated that MEN worked harder than women didn't quite sit well. He didn't get voted in. in fact.. gee, it was DEMOCRATS to promoted equality for blacks... JFK did that with his brother. and DEMOCRATS who pushed through the family medical leave act so that you don't get fired when there's a medical emergency in the immediate family and you have to take time to handle it. (clinton) Amazingly, democrats listen (from time to time) to the people they represent. They tend to realize that there aren't only grumpy old white men running the country. Which Boehner really REALLY needs to remember FAST cuz he's about to cost a LOT to his party with the whole "no tax cuts for the middle class" routine. Oops.. it's not just 47% who are middle class either.. it's upwards of 90% of the U.S. anyone missing the bullhead from their fish farm?

The GOP continues to show their spots, instead of actually moving into the 21st century. They only reluctantly gave a woman a chairmanship AFTER being backed into a corner, and then they gave her the committee that essentially oversees secretaries. Terrific. Keep it coming.
Republicans need to get a spine. The liberal media (aka those generating "headlines") is always going to be looking for things to scream and squawk about where Republicans are concerned. Look at how they're still lambasting Republicans for not being flexible on the "fiscal cliff". It's funny that they do that, when they also love to say how Republicans are starting to go against Norquist's "no tax mantra." They of course don't print the lack of flexibility on their savior Obama's part - which is pathetic when Obama Claus not only won't go for any cuts in spending, but wants more stimulus and the ability to circuvent Congress and eliminate the debt ceiling. Talk about inflexible, but the laughable libs won't say squat about that.

As to your ranting about the fiscal cliff, it is funny how you hot shot regressives got boxed into a corner, and all you can do is complain. Wake up, either way your party is F ed. To Obama is was just like fishing, thow out the bait, the suckers bit, yank and set the hook. Watch them fight, while slowely reeling them in.

You want to talk about a token – a Republican token --- try Michael Steele. Remember him? After Republicans got stomped in the 2008 election, they decided to show how much they welcomed blacks into their party and appointed a black guy -- Michael Steele – as Chairman of the RNC. During his two year term as Chairman, more Republicans were elected to office nationwide than during any two year period in the history of the Republican Party. So how did Republicans reword Mr. Steele for his outstanding success --- they FIRED him.
GOP is the old white guy party, nothing more. Just because they add a women after criticism is not going to change their policies. They are anti-women and people of color, don't for get it!

Here's an idea. Why don't we put the MOST QUALIFIED people in these positions and stop worrying about what's hanging (or not hanging) between their legs?

I don't find this to be much of an issue as far as I am concerned. It is kind of sad that there are not more qualified women with tenure for the job maybe it is because not many choose to run in order to keep their private lives private whereas it is quite obvious that Obama has appointed a number of unqualified women to positions just for Show, including the Supreme Court and that is the big difference between the two parties..The Demoncrats appoint just for the Show and then can't figure out why the Government is so screwed up and their plans a continual failure whereas it is quite the opposite on the other side where the women are a least qualified for the job and not just assigned due to sex, race, etc. etc. to fill a "publicity void" or propaganda campaign as the Socialist Demoncrats have been doing..And that is also why the cost of government keeps rising these women just don't know when to quit spending because it is "not their money" and so government grows while they create the "Queen Bee" Kingdoms...Meanwhile the ignorant Lemmings as noted in so many comments here just do not have a clue and just follow the leader and that is why their called Lemmings...Not much going on upstairs mentally...But as with Clinton, Spitzer and so many more Demoncrats than Republicans we truly get a good picture of what the average Socalist Demoncrat thinks of women and the amount of real respect they have for them..

The only reason they put one Women up to chair a committee, is all the bad press 1 out of 21 WOW the republicans are really doing a great job of diversity! LOL
