After criticism, GOP adds woman to chair House committee

After enduring negative headlines that all of the House Republican committee chairmanships will be filled by men in the next Congress, Republicans have found their woman.

NBC News has learned that Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will be named chair of the House Administration Committee. Miller did not serve on the committee during the 112th Congress.

Lack of diversity has been an issue for the GOP, and many strategists believe that the party’s problems with women and minorities led to President Obama’s re-election.

Miller has been in Congress since 2003, and her highest committee level post is on the House Homeland Security Committee.

The House Administration Committee deals with the pertinent administrative business of the House. The committee can decide such mundane things as whether or not the House cafeterias will use paper or Styrofoam plates -- or more serious matters such as benefit packages for congressional workers and how the Library of Congress operates. The Committee also monitors the expense accounts of House members.

House Speaker John Boehner issued this statement: “From ensuring the House runs efficiently and smoothly, to making Congress more open and accessible, Candice has a big job ahead as chairman of the House Administration Committee. In her new post, Candice will provide the leadership needed to keep operating costs down, save taxpayer dollars, and help lawmakers use new technology to better engage with their constituents. And her experience as Michigan secretary of state will be invaluable given the committee’s oversight of campaign finance and election laws.

Isn't that swell, those Retards are really chivalrous dudes, right?

First they lost an election to the most vulnerable Dem in decades and now they prove their grip on future politics is lock tight by making sure they have a token female on board.

Where is Carl Rove when we need his money raising and spending expertise? BTW, has anyone heard about a Koch Bros contract out on Rove? Story is that they want their money back or his knee caps are gonna go bye-bye....LMAO

I think it so odd that nobody has commented on the fact that she is anointed ChairMAN and never even served on the commitee... just sayin.

Are you sure the committee existed before today. I think it was run out of the secretarial pool.

Isn't that where Teddy Kennedy got the one that gave him his confirmed kill in the war on women?

Well, the Reactionary party is very future driven. They not only have a token women, but they have just brought out Jeb Bush's son, who has a hispanic mother, to run as a hispanic. If some pollster said that there was a PICT vote the resctionaries would all be painted blue.

They had considered her for the Domestic Affairs Committee until someone pointed out that Domestic Affairs didn't mean cooking, cleaning and taking care of your man.

OMG! They put a woman in charge of the Administration Committee because of all of the criticism? What's worse is that she accepted instead of telling Bonehead where he could put that committee. I don't know which is worse but I really feel sorry for Candice Miller.

I would like to know just how many committees are there today and how does it compare to congressional history? Maybe even a list of said committees and let voters decide if they feel they are getting their monies worth? As a retired management analyst, I would like to know the hours spent and the number of floor votes missed. I know... I could probably research this myself, but could use any help.

Good one NVPAT. But seriously Baldman, why do you think having one prohibits you from doing most jobs? Well jobs other than perhaps being a sperm donor. There are many women who head large corporations and do their jobs well. You don't think giving one of them a chance is worth it? If this person is competent to run the committee then why not let her? If I refused to hire someone based on gender I'd be in deep legal trouble. But the Republicans are STILL doing it.

I think we should hire the best people for the job and if all of them happen to be men, or all of them happen to be women, so be it.

What can I say that hasn't already been said, except BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Just SOME of the Republican statements that show how out of touch they are FROM THE LAST 6 MONTHS:.....

"I don't have time to explain my budget plan." Paul Ryan

"... the polls are wrong." - the entire RNC

"....47% of the American people want handouts" Mitt Romney

"It's 51%" -Orrin Hatch Seriously, this is what they think of us.

"there is no mandate for raising tax rates.” - Boehner (A poll shows 60% of AMERICANS want a tax increase for the wealthy)

And the latest and greatest - "I have a great idea, put a woman in charge of the housekeeping committee. It'll show people how diverse we are.!"

            Gotta love it.

This blog is so ridiculous! How could GOD even blow life into such cold hearted, self indulged, racist, blowhards, known as the GOP, or , like I like to say, the POG, Pissy Old Gentlemen! 2016 will be here more sooner, than later, keep your ignorant tactics up! America loves it, you guys may have a little mite now, but, it seems these days that all you guys do is insult other groups! And it seems as if you don't get it! The USA is changing! It isn't about the good ol' boys club anymore! That ship has sailed! The old is dying off, and the new, wants to be heard, and you fools just aren't listening. That's why you're doomed! Good riddance!

You're right -- they don't have a clue. So many party leaders came out after the election saying they needed to "talk" about issues like abortion and immigration "better" to persuade more women and Hispanics to their side. This strategy is revealing and demeaning on it's face: if they"talk better" we will fall into line?

Hey guys, stop deluding yourself, it's the GOP positions, policies, propaganda, etc. about issues of importance to women and minorities that count. If you're not willing to understand and support our opinions/needs, all the "talk" in the world will not win our votes.
