If this were a true show of unity (IMHO) we would see a civil joint press conference between the President, Boehner, McConnell, Reed and Pelosi after an intense "come to Jesus meeting" regarding the "fiscal cliff" and the debt ceiling. Actually, it would not be a bad idea, and would show that Obama is truly trying to act in a bi-partisan manner.

I am someone that feels, regardless of my party affiliation, if I were to win an election, I would fill my cabinet with the best possible PEOPLE for the position. I would not care if there were an R, D, or I listed next to them for their party. In fact, the more letters in an adminstration, I think the better the ideas that would come forth from it, as you would have differing viewpoints, and the end product would be something collaborative instead of one sided

This is where our current idea of government has gone astray. Back in the early elections, there were to candidates that ran for President. The winner was President and the other was Vice-President. I am not saying to go back to that exact method, but to employ something similar like I suggested above would show that whatever administration did this, was truly working on behalf of the American People and not just their party.

Well, I think there is an argument to be had that the 'mechanism' of money making money, is where Romney's wealth came from. Romney's start, meaning his childhood and the wealth of his parents can't exactly be thrown aside either.

Heck, on paper one of Romney's sons is wealthy, but having parents with ability to fork over a cool $10 million for your little 'small' business isn't exactly commonplace across the Country.

Giving his money to the church and getting a tax write-off is how he and Ms. Anne got started, and it is how they ended. We still don't know what's in those tax returns prior to 2010. And I'm willing to bet a months salary that Mr. & Mrs. Willard "Mittens" Romney are currently having their tax experts revise those pesky little 2011 Federal Income Tax Returns so that they can recoup that additional money that was left on the table in order for them to be within "Mitt"s pre-determined tax rate of between 13-14%.

I would bet that you could care less solely because Mr. & Mrs. Mitt are "wealthy individuals" and any desire for "those people" (reads ordinary Americans) to see what/how the Romney's make/made their money is just us being envious, right?

PoliticoGuy - actually Romney gave away PART of his money - not all of it. He kept enough and had enough invested to live comfortably for his entire life. He ran businesses into the ground and sold them off - that's how he made his money. He didn't make businesses successful - THAT would be a successful businessman.

His Mass governorship was anything but a rousing success. He was over-ruled by the state legislature at every turn and was so hated he didn't even run for a 2nd term.

Romney is rich - so are many people. But he is no one anyone should look up to or look to for business advice as he has none.

And, I don't hate rich people. I have enough of my own money and I have many friends who are very well off. I just don't like people who think they are something special when they're just like everyone else.

He did make businesses successful. A lot of the companies that were bought and gutted by Bain in the 90's were when Romney was not even part of the company.

While part of Bain, companies were turned around that were able to be, tens of thousands of jobs were saved by restructuring many failing companies (which is similar to what the Obama administration took credit for with the auto bailout, so what is the difference) and allowed companies that could not support themselfs to be sold off, or go bankrupt. That is what happens in business.

To your second point. Of course he was overruled by the state legislature. You are aware that 80% of the elected officials in Mass are Democrats, right? As he was a Republican Governor working with an overwhelming Democratic majority, the fact that he LED (operative word here) Massachusetts to a balanced budget is a success in and of itself.

Many do not know this but Romney also did not take any salary for being Governor of MA. His charitable contributions have been most generous and have helped a lot of people. Give credit where credit is due. Everyone tries to find some fault with Romney. Of course he has faults as we all do, as does Pres. Obama, we are humans. Fact is most presidents did come from families of wealth, look at the Kennedy's. Who benefited more from their father's "illegal" money making schemes and the wealth that lives on to this day. Romney's wealth was made legally and there is no indelible marks that are so caustic that he deserves what can only sound as jealousy from some of those on this vine. Obama himself is a millionaire and will prosper even more after his term is up when he can go write more books, do speeches, presidential pension, etc. Will you all then think of his children as being exceptional Romney brats because they will have the same benefit that the Gov. Romney was able to bestow on his children? That the Clinton's have for Chelsea, that the Nixon's, Carter's, Bush's, Ford's, etc. have all been able to do for their children.

Whether it's 200M or 10M (which I believe is Obama's current weath), they are all rich. Being jealous and attacking them because of their wealth only shows how shallow a person one is. Especially when someone like Romney contributes a significant amount to charity. Why aren't his contributions on par with Carter's Habitat for Humanity? Romney has probably given more than any of them with his time and money but from what I've learned he has not boasted or wanted any praise for it. If you dig deep and look it up you too will find his endless contributions. That's an honorable man, one who gives without recognition. Let he who cast the first stone....

Get a grip people, our country gives everyone an opportunity to strive for success. Success doesn't mean being a millionaire, it's the content of your character, you work ethic, you family values. Most of us are happy to survive on a decent income and have pride in who we are not who we want to demonize for those who have more. Watch a documentary on the Congo, or any of the third world countries. Those people are grateful for a bag of rice, they aren't crying over whether they have paid contraceptives. My father is a WWII vet. He bristles at how he has seen the country evolve from what he fought for. He came from a generation who had pride in what they did, not what they got. He didn't even take any of the GI benefits but instead worked 3 jobs to support 5 children. He had pride, has pride. Like Kennedy said, Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country. I don't hear that said much anymore.

Actually, I suspect the White House is doing Romney a favor by NOT introducing in the Press with his little meeting with President Obama. Recall that Romney and his campaign advisers made sure that all the indoor meetings Romney had with his wealthy supporters and financial backers had no Press reporters present.
