Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

they all lie, really...The election was a joke, the mediators for the debates were backing Obama along with most of the TV networks, Romney was doomed from the start becuase he probably feels that people should get up and work for what they get, not be goverment dependant...You want to know how Romney could have won, Ill tell you either way...make it so if you recieve any goverment assistance you cant vote. Im not talking about Social Security as I dont feel that is an entitlement program as people have paid all there lifes. Im talking about food, fuel, housing, energy assistance ect. Im sure the replys will pour in for this post.

I don't recall any "despicable" remarks during the campaign from Romney that were not true. This election proved his contention he would lose cause of the 47% who "get stuff" free from O's Government. That is "despicable" but not untrue.

What I did and do hear is the call by the Left for the destruction of the Tea Party cause of their beliefs in limited Government, adherence to the United States (not Obama's) Constitution and individual responsibility. True, these policies could destroy Obama's country. Those of us in the 47 percent don't like individual responsibility.

It is totally untrue. The statistical reality is that the red-staters (republicans) are, on average, less prone to pay income taxes, more prone to receive subsidies from the federal government, less physically fit, less responsible in their sexual behaviour, more prone to inflict harm on themselves and on others through smoking, drunk driving and misuse of firearms, and more prone to freeride on the healthcare system, compared to blue-staters.

Anthony - don't know where you get your "information" - Take a look at Illinois. Talk murder rates and a nanny state that is but bankrupt. Then, of course, there is California. Broke and I won't even go into their sexual behavior.....next

You believe everything you read on the internet Anthony?

You might want to check your stats before you speak.

Of the top 15 states (including DC) in collecting welfare, Only 2 are RED states, and one of them is a swing state.

Was not quoting just welfare statistics. Thats why you guys lose, your think starving the poor will solve everything. Look how much states get back in comparison to what they pay in tax. Mississippi and West Virginia are at the head of the class—each take nearly $3 from Washington for each dollar they pay in taxes. Both red states taking "gifts" LOL

Wow, just wow, Another common misconception forwarded by those on the left that refuse to actually study anything.

You on the left, really believe we want people who are poor to starve. That's the dumbest, ignorant, unknowledgable thing I've ever heard. We want to help THOSE WHO REALLY NEED THE HELP. However, we recognize that NOTHING in this world, should be or is FREE. Someone somewhere has to pay for it, or take a hit for it. There has to be failsafes that insure that 1. people aren't taking advantage of the welfare system, 2. that the government is working towards getting these people back to work (not including the disabled) and not just handing over a check with no checks and balances, and 3. that the money being spent by the government is being put to good use (which goes to every level of government, which we don't do on any level of government)

Again, with your statistic, we were talking about welfare, not what states themselves actually take in. Selectively picking your info is your downfall. Either stick to what you are talking about, or don't bring it up.

Just an odd thought here. In case everyone on here complaining, or bashing the republicans, or bashing the democrats.

Did it come to mind that President Obama is meeting with Mr Romney, to set or lay ground work now, for the democrats and republicans to start working together now for the benefit of the whole country. The election is over. They are not just meeting to have tea. It's just a guess, and I'm sure most will disagree. I think maybe they are meeting to come together now and work on things for and to benefit the whole country. Or, as some are thinking, they might just be having tea.

Just to have tea. Romney has no official role in any level of Govt. Obama does not need to "work" with him on anything.

President Obama was re-elected by majority of Americans....what part of that is not a "defeat"...hmmm?

Fox and Rove said if Romeny won more than 300 electoral votes he would have a mandate....President Obama won 330....now, as usual, Rove and Fox are walking that back.....flip flopping is in GOP DNA.

Face it, even obam is realizing he cannot hide the facts nor can the MSM spin the numbers to cover the truth anymore. America has been deluded by the MSM thinking everything is rosy and on the course to recovery when the rest of the world's media has been telling the truth.

Al Qaeda is larger and more potent than ever before, having established itself through out the Middle East, Africa, Indonesia and now Mexico, Peru an Venezuela.

The US can print all of the money it wants but the currency markets are unsaturated and we are headed for a complete collapse. The amount of national debt is beyond the point of any reasonable return and now the situation is drastic.

Obama needs real help and he is enlisting Romney to do it while Reid, Pelosi and people like you keep up your hate filled rhetoric.

This cannot be a bad idea. No matter what your politics you are a fool to believe that it will not be good for the country to agree that reasonable people can have different opinions without hating each other. Even since the election the hate has not abatted between left and right. My candidate lost but I finally came to the conclusion that continuing to complain as well as continuing to spike the ball by the other side serves no purpose. Both are good men who have different views for the future of the country.

I'm curious, how exactly do the wealthy (which dems usualy don't classify what wealthy actually means to them) pay nothing and get something back??

It is safe to assume that you have never taken a tax class? The wealthy can move money around, they have the means to do this thru investments (stocks, bonds, money market shares) they write the loses off agaisnt the gains. People making less than forty and fifty a year with children have very little disposable income to do this with.

                      #66.2 - Wed Nov 28, 2012 11:32 AM EST

So again, I'm curious, how exactly do they pay NOTHING, and get something back.

Using a tax code that is available to everyone at every level, is hardly getting something for paying nothing. I've yet to see someone who makes a pay check on any level, that didn't pay taxes.

Investments are an entirely different thing that pay roll. But I know the left likes to blend them together, and make them one-in-the-same, but back in reality, it's not.

Now, if you want to tax investments at a higher rate, go for it, but to pretend they are one in the same to a payroll check is a little bit of a joke.

More serious than using obama's TAX and SPEND plan that does not and WILL not work.

You actually think the President will ask the Mittster for advice? The only advice the Mittster can give him is how to lose an election. Mitt does that extremely well.

One of the reasons that Obama won is because there are some people that have no clue on what is actually going on today (see your various posts that offer ZERO), and they think that by raising the taxes on the 4% will pay for all of the deficit.

Here's the reason the President was re-elected. A MAJORITY of the people in this country know he's the best man to lead this country back from the abyss. You just don't seem to get that, Politico. The MAJORITY of the people want the wealthy to pay their fair share. That's something else you refuse to admit to. Go back to your cave you live in, Politico, and stop watching Fox. We'll call you when it's time to come out.

"Romulian Romney" is going to visit the President at the White House. Will the GOP/RNC "Romulian" be allowed to land his Bird Of Prey on the White House Lawn? Will the White House Cooks have any "Romulian Recipes" to make and serve? The GOP/RNC "Outsourcer" will have alot of questions to answer. Where are your past tax returns? Why will you not release your past tax returns? Who competed your past tax returns? How much money have you not reported properly? Do you know what an Aircraft Carrier is? How about a Submarine? Do you know who make up the US Middle Class? Have you ever earned your own paycheck? How would you grade your performance as a politician? Why do you like to do everything in quiet rooms? Why are you such a "Political Flip-Flopper?" Does anyone have anyother questions to ask "Romulian Romney?

Maybe Romney will be teaching Obama Economics 101 and/or teaching Obama how to be a Govern in a Constitutional Republic instead of Ruling like a dictator.

Fox and Rove said if Romeny won more than 300 electoral votes he would have a mandate....President Obama won 330....now, as usual, Rove and Fox are walking that back.....flip flopping is in GOP DNA.

Yes because to get to 300 for Romney without the libtard states of NY and CA would be a monumental feat.

McCain has a point on Rice and Obama. The President tried to get friends with the discussion on the tape. The embassy was attacked and the President did not help protect it. Regan would have blown them up. Leadership and Politics just don't go together most of the time. Think of Carter!

Hey, COinFL, let's not forget that Tiny Tim Geithner, a member of Barry O's administration, is also an accomplished tax evasionist. You libtard scumbags are a fine bunch....critical of the other party when questionable tax practices exist, but you look the other way when your own libtard heroes avoid paying taxes. Hypocritical fools like you are what's wrong with this country.
