President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.
It will be the first meeting since the election's end.
The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

SURELY A CLASS ACT! Good!
I've been reading through some of the comments on here and find them quite disturbing. The fact is that most of us would agree on many issues if they weren't tilted questions. Most of us are in the middle. It is disappointing that the extreme right and left have divided this country so badly. In my opinion, I feel it was more so the extreme right wing agenda and the Tea Party faction that did the most damage.
That being said, I am very pleased that our President is a world class diplomat and is able to put differences aside, regardless of what Romney found it necessary to say in the days after losing the election. His concession speach was well put and should have been left at that.
I'm hoping the two can work together. Obviously there must be some ideas Mr. Romney has that could work to help our country. If it's a good idea and will help our country, who cares where it comes from. Maybe if Mr. Romney is able to work with the administration it could do some good in healing the division and anger that has been caused by the campaigning by both parties. It was an awful display of how our country has allowed politicians to divide it's citizens. I have no doubt that our First Lady Michelle will be her usual gracious self toward Anne.
Many of you on here need to take stock of what you really want to see in this country. Is it "We the People" or us versus them? I don't use prefixes like Italian, French or Irish before stating that I'm an American. I would like to see others start doing the same. We need to all be Americans FIRST. If we can't set differences aside and push TOGETHER to make this country move forward, then we might as well chalk it up and call ourselves the Divided States of Americans.
Let go of the hate and anger. Stop watching networks that promote division and retribution or are hell bent on making our country fail just to prove a point. Together We're Better. The United States of America and Americans. I'm very proud to be an American and I'm proud of our country but we have a lot of internal healing to do. It needs to start with us. That's the US in U.S. of America.

You mean like Obama winning in all of the top 10 states in education by a wide margin while Romney won in all of the bottom 10 states in education except Nevada. We know what your problem is Paul.

I said it then (and got ridiculed) and I'll say it now. I think turning Mitt Romney loose to develope such a cabinet position would be a brilliant idea. It is certainly an area of expertise for him.

I would like to round up the fanatic haters on both sides of this discussion and conduct a unethical cleansing of idiots.
You have to remember, most of these people didn't vote. They don't understand the "Real America". Hatred is part of their being. Calling names is the only way they know how to debate an issue........................The only God is their God. The only church is their church. The only political party is their party. The only people that are right, are the ones that think exactly the way they think. But they are not really real people, they are fill ins, things that take up space but have no substance. Their only contribution to society is to bitch.
Progressives and liberals don't always get it right but when they are wrong the consquences are small but when conservatives get it wrong the consquences are great for example The Great Depression, The Great Recession and the War with Iraq.
I hope all of you stinking followers of the "Lord & Savior" that you voted for will be saying all of these same things 4 years from now.

As far as the President is concerned and the two parties. I come to this way of thinking they are all in cahoots together in some way shape or form. I love this country, hope to heck the political BS starts getting put aside and they start doing what is right for America instead of both parties self serving interests.

First question I am pro life except for instances of rape, incest or endangerment to the mother. The other part of that I believe in is personal responsibility/accountability for your actions. If you make dumb ass life choices example being promiscuous and not using protection well then tough @!$%#/deal with it. As far as gays or lesbians they don't bother me provided their views are not forced on me. Anyways we have allot more important issues in our country than those issues in my opinion.
How about Obama asking Mitt to put his effort where his mouth was and serve the country in some capacity on Obama's cabinet? You say no way?!?!? Think about it. How about Sec of the Treasury??

Obama finally is getting smart, to consult in a very upright decent honest successful man that worked hard to get where he got in life and loves his country so much to run for the presidency to try to make a difference. Hopefully he will listen to Romney's wisdom because he has a lot of answers that most people haven't a clue on then I believe will make a difference. What character Mitt is displaying by laying aside the disappointment of not being elected and willing to share his insight, knowledge and in his viewpoint of what will help America with Obama, hopefully all will go well between the two and good for America will come out of this and hopefully Obama will take some of his advice, he knows the answers are beyond him and he is right in seeking advice from the man that represents the other half of america that voted against Obamas ideas and beliefs

Maybe if Obama opens those big, goofy ears of his and keeps his mouth shut, he might learn something about the economy and how real businesspeople handle a recession, not how a community organizer might do it with freebies and giveaways to the slackers who voted for him. Yes, Obama can learn how you cut your income by 20%, increase your expenses by 2 trillion dollars and reduce the national debt. I would like to be in on that conversation.

I love that our President is having lunch with Romney!! It shows his classiness and that he does care about the direction our country is headed. Romney, himself, may even show up and be helpful!! LOL!!! Watch for his flip flopping Mr President.

WOWWW . . . Romney should not accept the invitation, but he's a great gentleman. The only reason Obama is inviting him is to pick his brains and find out how to get the U.S.A. economy back in track, since Obama does not have any idea how to decrease the deficit.
Romney will teach him how to reduce the deficit, increase revenues and cut the expenses and the government!!!
At the end of the day, Obama will pick up Romney's best ideas and implement them as if they were HIW OWN!!!
