President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.
It will be the first meeting since the election's end.
The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

Not certain what can be achieved with this meeting, or if such a meeting has been held before. Mr. Romney has been running for President for the past 6 years, I think the President Obama already knows his views on items pertaining to the issues of the day.
It just goes to show you. What? Well whatever you want it to show you. Nothing anyone posts here changes the minds of those who disagree. Have any of you been keeping up with the studies being published that are proving that up and coming generations are, in large numbers proving to be less intelligent? Diluting the gene pool? Demanding less educationally? Laziness? "D," all the above. Jesus - or Grilled Cheesus, whatever you prefer! It's a mess. And no, this has nothing to do with why the President wants to have lunch with Romney. Did it ever occur to anyone that the two of them may call a truce so that some of these critical problems can get "fixed?"

This is an actual account of the conventions debates, what each delegate supported, most conservatives prefer a white washed version of our history which supports their beliefs rather than what really took place. The problem with your argument is that the definition of what was Conservative and what was Liberal at the time is pretty much the reverse of what it is today. You do realize that dont you?
From the beginning of Western Civilization you can easily identify 3 groups of people conservatives, progressives and radicals of one stripe or other. The labels have changed but the groups remain pretty much the same. A conservative would most likely have been a conservative through out history. The same conservatives that support states rights today would have also supported states rights before the Civil War and in that argument was that states had the right to respect slavery. The arguments may change but the supporters don't.

I would hope it to be more along the lines of:
"Gov. Romney, you and I both care a great deal about this country, and I think that we do have some common ground where we can start to have our parties work together. Why dont we discuss some of our ideas to see what commonality there is, and then build from there.
Then again I am an eternal optimist
I hope Romney tells Obama to cut up the credit card.
The question will be - how do you cut your income by 20%, increase your expenses by 2 trillion dollars and reduce the national debt?

Step 1) (The most important step BTW) Promot an economic environment that encourages new job growth, and not one that calls for people to fall off the workforce participation rolls.
Romney is big enough to help the administration with its financial woes. The only real question is...is Obama big enough to accept Romney's help.

The top 10 states in education all went for Obama by big margins. The bottom 10 states in education all went for Romney except Nevada. Greg - I know what your problem is.
Conservatives are always scared, they have been predicting that civilization is doomed for the past 2000 years and so far history has proved them wrong and there is no reason to believe this will change over the next 2000 years. Please pray that progressives are protected from conservatives. Conservatives have a long history of turning violent if they don't get their way. Witness the slave holders that started the Civil War in this country.

I think that Benjamin Franklin was a pretty smart man, and he said that eventually our system of government would fail due to corruption (paraphrasing here because I dont have his autobiography in front of me). He was pretty spot on. He didnt think it would last 200 years.

I just received my tax return for 2011 back from the IRS. It puzzles me!!! They are
questioning how many dependents I claimed. I guess it was because of my response
to the question: "List all dependents?" I replied: 12 million illegal immigrants; 3 million crack heads; 42 million unemployed people on food stamps, 2 million people in over 243 prisons; Half of
Mexico; and 535 persons in the U.S. House and Senate." Evidently, this was NOT
an acceptable answer. I KEEP ASKING MYSELF, WHOM DID I MISS?

Stupid is as stupid does. Why would that lying idiot Obama meet with Romney. The election is over. Obama needs to work out a budget and work on getting more minorities on welfare, food stamps and social security disability. You sick Democrats that are calling Romney a tax cheat I only have one question for you. If what Obama was saying during the campaign was true that Romney paid a lower rate and kept monies in other countries was somehow illegal, why didn't Obama change the tax rates and laws on foreign investment during his first two years in office. He had a filibusterer proof Democratic Senate and control of the House. Why didn't he change the laws on the books that he so vilified Romney for. The reason is simple. You Democrats are chromosome deficient. Your parents were related before they were married. When the country goes broke and I will be around to see it, I wont be a bit sorry when the inner city residents will burn down their own homes and let their kids starve. Same with all the illegals. Things will get so bad here going back to Mexico will be an improvement.

Are you people all idiots? How do you know what is going on? What's going to be said? Why the meeting? Who asked for the meeting? Christ, Crap, give it a break. Even Mohammad Ali and Joe Fraizer became friends. Why can't President Obama and Governor Romney discuss the obvious. That is the better interest of the American people and our way of life. Some of the ideas that Mitt Romney and the Republican Party are very reasonable, very workable in the way Congress is supposed to work. Why shouldn't the President discuss the (at least some) reasons almost half of the voters voted for Mr. Romney. Isn't that what we elected him for, to lead all the people? Not just the ones that voted for him. If Mr. Romney asked for the meeting, then why shouldn't the President be concerned about what some of the people that voted for him need? Isn't that why the Republican Party nominated him, so he would address their concerns. Either way, I'm at least partially relieved that at least the two men are coming together to discuss America. If nothing comes of it, at least it will be the best of America coming together to discuss America.
And to those of you that didn't vote, (that would be about 40% of you, that is if your registered) and those of you that would do away with the The United States, and our way, .............................. STFU!

President Obama will probably be wanting to get his hands on Romney's plans on helping the economy that Obama (yes, Obama....not Bush) destroyed. You see, Romney and Ryan had credible and sound plans without even being elected, unlike Obama who still has not come up with a budget after four years. Pay attention Obama, you will learn something about economics. Also, pay close attention to the way Romney speaks and conducts himself, you know...like a President and not a celebrity.
