President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.
It will be the first meeting since the election's end.
The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

I wanted to to eat in the White House at least once in your Lifetime because this is the ONLY time you will dine in the Presidential Private Lunchroom... Now enjoy the food and beat it Loser! Some just don't get it, Mitt Romney has enough money that he could ride off into the sunset and not be bothered. He values his country enough to give the President whatever advice that he may be seeking. The campaign is over, stop believing all the ads that were out there to influence your vote. If President Obama didn't want his advice, he wouldn't invite him to lunch.

Mitt doesnt need more money and is not seeking glory. He thought he could actually do something good for the country and give back to a country that has provided so well for him during his lifetime.
Maybe if more of our elected officials felt the same, there would be more cooperation and collaboration and less vitriol and hatred in Washintgon.
Although I have no special place in my heart for Romney, I'd have to agree with you Walter...if Obama didn't value any advice Romney could give him or provide, he definitely wouldn't have taken the time to have lunch with him...you're right about that point....

While I can support your point, I do disagree with you on the racist on both sides line. The overwhelming number of racist are on the RIGHT and you know it. You do not see too many Democrats, if any, calling him out of his name and we have disagreed with some of the compromises he has made with the Right like extending the Bush tax cuts for 2 years.

Show me anywhere, in any elections when a white president elect, or even presidential candidate, was subjected to this kind of racist attacks as Obama has.

I agree that Obama has unfortunately been subjected to racist comments and it makes me sad that racism still exists in the world.
However, what about people who say "I voted for Obama ONLY because he is black"? That's racism, too. I've heard that from both white and black people.
Why is it socially acceptable to make comments like that? Surely, if I said "I voted for Romney because he was white" everyone would go ballistic. Now, I would never make a comment like that - but it shouldn't be okay to say that you're only voting for Obama because he's black. Racism goes both ways.
@Walter - Maybe Mr. Romney could ask Obama to explain his "Rose Garden" speech. Why did he refer to "acts of terror" instead of calling Benghazi a TERRORIST ATTACK? That's a question that I would like to have answered.

Secrecy...secrecy...and more secrecy, it is the essence of why the current administration has been living and surviving. Maybe the current political administration is not aware that the United States is now advanced in its nationwide computer usage. Just like the old Soviet Union, secrecy led to its government's inability to cope and function to meet its citizens' demands and needs. Soon, there will be no stopping the United States' collapse because of its overwhelming secrecy--the Dems have gone to far to the left, that now they're employing the art of dis-information campaign for all the cover ups they have hidden under neath on their sleeves.
I will agree that while he did campaign on being the most transparent administration, it turned out that transparency to them must have meant reading a redacted report from the CIA with everything blacked out.
There were never any budget meetings on CSpan that Obama promised when he ran in 2008 and apparently transparency is something you write on for your overhead display, and doesnt apply to the inner workings of the Peoples Government
Fuzzy. I saw the owner of Papa Johns pizza on T,V. the other day complaining about having to raise the price of his Pizzas ten cents when Obamacare comes to fruition. I feel so sorry for him, that I will order from Pizza Hut from now on. Republicans are a bunch of cry babies, I can hear you now. Unions in the United States are the best thing that ever happened for the Middle Class. If it were not for Unions, You would be working for minimum wage or less. I could care less for twinkies or people like you. The concept and practice of the unions was good when they came out, but over the years they have gotten away from the concept and it is about the union bosses. The unions are sending business overseas becaus they are not competitive against foreign countries. People are and were paid more than a lot of them were worth and that is the beginning of the problem. People that have an education, making the same as people with out an education, should not make the same. It should go by education, experience and seniority. And it should be competitive. If business comes back to America, people will not and are not going to get the wages they were use to years ago. It is going to happen or America will not have the business. Americans are selfish, greedy, lazy, spoiled compared to foreign countries. Try living in Europe for a while and you will find out how they live compared to Americans. I appreciate every little thing I have here in America after living in England and Scotland. I did not have all the extras and luxuries in Europe. And on top of everything, America has been taken over by the new SOCIALIST LIBERALS the past 4 years. So we are in for a ride from no on. Just wait and see. And besides Hostess filled for bankruptcy a while back and has been through 3 different owners already. They wanted the unions to take a 8% decrease. But the idiot members want a 100% of nothing instead. Pretty ignorant considering they have no jobs to go to. I would rather have 92% verses unemployment. Try looking at it rationally for one!!!
We all want the same things. Both Republicans and Democrats. We all want safe neighborhoods, good schools for our kids, good jobs, reasonable gas prices, affordable mortgages, and low taxes. We all want prosperity. We all want the dream. Most are willing to work hard for it (some not, but Fk them) The rich, the working poor, or middle-class working folks, all want America to get right. We just have different oppinions of how we get there. We can agree to disagree, but we got to stop hateing on each other for different views. Thats just plain un-American. We face the reality, Obama won a second term. Republicans in Congress are at least saying they want to work toward a better economy. they need to do what they were hired to do. Work for the people, not the party. Romneys gone, sorry for those who backed him, only one winner in that challenge. Bush beat Gore, Dems were obviously disapointed, but there wasn't the hateful attitude we see. We had war (still do) and the economy was in the toilet when he left (not blaming, just stating a fact) We gotta work together to get this fixed. bickering is over, lets get this ship upright. We can all be cynical and post our BS here, but lets pray that the people we elected to serve our government, stop the BS, and gets this country back on track.

I've been saying that to a guy I debate with all the time. I think Republicans and Democrats are a lot closer to each other than people want to believe. We just have different ways to get there.
I have a challenge for all of you who voted for this President and who post on any MSNBC site. Please stop posting until MSN can legitimately and accurately report that this President and his administration have completed a budget for review. Until this is done.......... lunch with Mr. Romney seems quite stupid, unless he is going to pay Mitt for some of his ideas!!!

They actually present a budget to Congress and the Senate each year, but it never makes it out of committee mainly because there are not enough votes to support it.
Each branch of the government then goes through and puts together a piecemeal budget based on what the President wants in order to keep the country running. Stupid, right?

There is no way on this earth that I could ever sit down anywhere with obama, biden, pelosi, reid and the rest who have put our country on a path of destruction. If they wanted to pay me a million dollars, I could still not sit down with any of these pathetic excuses for government officials.
Are you kidding? I would love the opportunity to sit with any one of those people to discuss our philosophical differences. How else do you know if you have any common ground to being to formulate some sort of working proposition?
There were several times when I was an elected official in my town where I would sit with the opposition to discuss an issue, knowing in my head that my plan may be a bit better, but after talking it through, found that if we implemented a few ideas they had with some of mine, the plan actually worked out better.

It was bad under GHW Bush, got worse under Clinton, even worse under GW Bush and we see where we stand now. I would hate to be the next President, even if that person could cure the National Debt, cancer, make everyone have a job, a home....some will still hate them for some reason or another.
Not sure what the meeting will be about. I do know that the "fiscal cliff" is not that; it is more like a "fiscal mountain". I believe that Romney was right on track on how to fix this country, but the popular vote and electoral college did not elect him president. A lot of people who voted for Obama were people who were already getting "handouts", so why wouldn't you vote for him? The fact that Hurricane Sandy was good timing; let me assure you that is part of the President's job to assist in those types of matters, not win elections. One of the best ways to fix this country is to create MORE JOBS so we have MORE TAXPAYERS. Taxing the heck out of the rich does a lot of things; decreases their monetary contributions, hire less employees, lay off employees. Good for you, Mitt Romney, for being a gracious person and attending the meeting.
If you actually believe that then that is why the GOP lost. Get over it and move on
@catt......I would say there is a good chance that the vast majority of the 47 million + people who receive some sort of government assistance, voted for Obama.
I'd classify even half of that number as a lot of people.

I did not vote for the President Obama I personally Like the President, however I'm not a big fan of his political and economic position. I wish he would come more to the center, be a moderate accept Simpson - Bowles recommendation of $1 of increased revenue ( Bohner may have to piss off some of his far right supporters) for $3 of government spending ( he may have to piss off some of his far left supporters). Get spending to under 20% of GDP like President Clinton was and get us, I mean all of us on a path to getting this ship righted. We all need to give at all economic levels since we all have contributed to the problem.
If government in general was more moderate, we wouldn't be in any mess to begin with.
It used to be, and it also used to be that our elected Presidents saw the need for a bipartisan approach to working on the issues facing the country. It seemed to stop somewhere during the first term of GW Bush.
Dougler and politicoguy - by more moderate, do you mean that we would still spend on programs and have over 70% of the federal budget going to dependence programs (entitlements - SS, Medicare, Medicaid, UE; farm subsidies, etc.) but a smaller overall budget or do you mean that we would have fewer of these programs that, frankly, are outside the purvue of the federal government.
As you both are reasonable and thoughtful in your replies, I'm curious to get your input.

As usual, all the libs are stating hateful untruths. The reason for this meeting would be obvious to anyone capable of thinking. (I honestly belief from what I've heard from friends in FL and CO...and VA, the election results were rigged by computer programmers but of course I will be labeled a kook by libs because they are vengeful and hateful people in general and haven't got anything between their ears to evaluate why this meeting is taking place)... so I can only guess that Obama still has no plan and is locked into tax and spend to his constituents and to placate the great uneducated and unwashed masses... taxing the rich (for 8 days of annual spending)... is his only concession and meaningless!... and a good reason for calling in Romney to get his assistance in solving this debt crises since he is not only a GOOD man, but an HONEST man who has no skeletons in his closet that anyone could prove or verify... only dishonest, lies and distortion of everything the man did in his life totally ignoring all the good he's done personally and charitably for hundreds of people etc... but I digress. Obama is turning into a full fledged tyrant and hasn't a clue as to what will turn the economy around or create jobs while Romney does!... I really thought all the name calling and bad manners were up now that the election is over with but guess I was wrong. I wish all you people would just grow up and face facts. Perhaps the President can show Romney the Oval Office instead of him seeing it photoshopped on his Presidential website, when he thought he was going to be the President. I'm really surprised that Romney agreed to meet with the President, seriously, many men who think of themselves as Masters don't really dine with people whom they believe to be inferior than them. The President had better have tight security, I don't trust Mittens as far as I can throw him.

Walter has made the best use of space and time that I've seen on here. WE NEED to stop the back & forth "cute" comments, trying to see who can come up with the sharpest needling remark and work together. I can only hope that some good comes from this meeting and that it sets a common ground happening for all levels of both parties to copy, developing a fair compromise for all of our sakes. Don't forget: United We Stand, Divided We Fall... United States of America, not Divided States of America.
