Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

Ya'll are honestly pathetic. To not support Mitt Romney is one thing, but to attack him and call him an evil liar is unnecessary. Obama has lied on many accounts as well - that's part of politics. Mitt Romney is obviously a good guy, and his wealth does not mean he is "evil". He has donated MILLIONS to various charities. I don't think that's something an evil guy would do.

I do not support Obama nor do I support his policies, but I would never attack his character. I'm sure he is a wonderful person. To attack someone personally, when you don't even know them, makes you ignorant.

The Mormon church is not a legitimate charity. If you have the millions that Romney has you just can rest assured that making millions was one of the most important things in his life. What is that the Bible says about laying up your treasures?

Why is the mormon church not a legitimage charity. Doesnt it fall under the same guidlines as say the Catholic church?

Did I miss something?

It does not share its money but uses the money to further the Mormon cause or to purchase shock treatment to change gays and lesibans back into straight people. As Bishop Romney was not able to help an unmarried woman because she would not get married.

Troops serving in combat zones do not pay Federal income taxes. Are they freeloaders?

        Re-Elect

Our troops should not pay any Federal Taxes since they are paid such horrible wages to begin with, and they are putting their lives on the line to protect the liberties and freedoms that everyone else enjoys.

HopeisGone- can you source where Romney received 80% of the military vote because when I look I see no national breakdown.

          Is this another RepubliCON mirage.

            #266.4 - Wed Nov 28, 2012 2:44 PM EST

It wasn't exactly 80% (though we don't know the numbers) of 3,100 military personel polled:

            66% voted for Romney

            26% voted for Obama

Obama just wants to rub it in.He is telling Mitt Iam your president, like it or not.And Mitt wants to know how in hell did Obama steal the elections after being assured by karl Rove and Dick Morris that he was going to win in a landslide, you, "by a factor of 7".

Mitt will disappear to irrellivancy after this meeting. He will never amount to anything politically.Democrats don't like him, and republicans can't stand him. They just voted for him because they hate our president, president of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama. The losers need to live with it, or not.- Iam talking to you Ted Nugent.

You mean he's going to ask Obama how he got Anonymous to suppress the vote and also how George Soros' company was counting so many of our ballots overseas, with no paper trail, of course. I mean, lets face it, this was a "contest" and "competition" and had nothing to do with voters. High level politicians are fine line psychopaths with no regard for anyone else but themselves.

Very few of the founding fathers were conservatives. The ones that were conservatives did not make it all the way through the Constitutional Convention because they wanted to create a government with king rather then a chief executive. Madison was a very radical progressive. Who do you think wrote the Federalists Papers?

Madison was liberal of his day. Look up what liberalism REALLY means and it is not what todays liberals are. LIBeral comes from the word LIBERTY, but every thing todays liberals are doing is not LIBERTY. You can not grow government like this and expect the keep LIBERTY.

On the same token, Alexander hammilton was a Conservitive of his day. He believed that we should form a monarchy and argued for no limits on govwernment in the Federalist papers.

More than half of those that were considered leaders in this country when we separated from Great Britain were conservatives. Some that were liberal even transformed into conservatives, such as John Adams.

Romney had asked the President if he could bring his friend, an Architect, so they check out the interior architecture of the White House. He plans on making an exact replica of the WH for Anne, up on a lot he just bought in Wolfboro NH, on Lake Winnepausaukee. He promised the bitch she could live there, and now he feels like crap, that he blew the opportunity. I'd say better luck next time, but you know that'll never happen. So, the replica will have to do. He's gonna use the cash he saved on paying legitimate taxes, to build it. I bet it'll cost a bundle. Ah.. he's got it!

I heard Obama will be serving hot dogs. Kind of ironic that over the weekend Obama visited an animal shelter where he "rescued" a handful of canines, and claimed they were holiday presents.

The election was a choice between the lessor of 2 political evils. We live in a "rock'star" celebrity driven country and Obama is the celebrity so he won. Let him have his due and hope that the country survives. We survived Bush and Obama is just as bad. In the last 50 years we've had 2 real leaders (Kennedy & Reagan) that inspired us but now the political whores (both parties) just feel like their job is to stick their thumb in the other guy's eye rather than doing something good for the people. How long did Rome survive??

I would possibly add Clinton to that list of Reagan and Kennedy

Clinton knew in order to have a thriving country he had to work with both sides of the aisle... a trait that has been lost for the past 8 years.

Reagan was a great republican president. He tripled the national debt, tried his best to kill Medicare and avoided going to prison over Iran-Contra.

He actually was a great President. He brought an end to the cold war with the USSR and duped the Russians into spending themselves into bankruptcy (SDI was mainly a myth created for this sole purpose and it was played brilliantly by the Reagan administration).

Inflation was out of control (inflation rate was in excess of 10 to 11% where it is currently 1.5 to 2%) when he took office, and unemployment was all over the place. The economy was in the midst of a double-dip recession where we actually had a negative GDP. During his first three years, the economy grew at an average rate of 5 to 6%. It has grown at an average of 2.2% for the first 3.5 years under this administration.

His debt ratio to the GDP never exceeded 53% where as of this year, it is currently in excess of 100% (First time in the history of the US)

Both Presidents came into office during economic turmoil, but one was able to get use out of it. Obama still has a chance to do so, but his window of opportunity is closing.

Ever think....what the hell did we do???????:

Here's just a sampling of what we've learned since voters decided to give Obama four more years to "experiment" with the economy.

Earnings falling: The Labor Dept. reported on Thursday that real average hourly earnings dropped again in October for the third month in a row, and are now down 2% from when Obama took office.

Poverty rising: A new Census Bureau report, also released after the election, finds that the number of poor people in America climbed 712,000 in 2011. The "official" report that came out in September had the number dropping by 96,000. So much for Obama's claim that things are getting better.

Food-stamp enrollment skyrocketing: Another government report conveniently timed after the election found that food stamp enrollment exploded by more than 420,000 in August. The number of people getting food stamps has climbed more than 15 million — or 47% — under Obama. That's a bigger increase than in all of President Bush's eight years. Today, almost 15% of the population is collecting food stamps, up from 7% just a decade ago.

Jobless claims jumping: The number of new jobless claims shot up to 439,000 last week, up 78,000 from the week before, due largely, it's said, to Hurricane Sandy. But the two states with the biggest increases in jobless claims the week before that were Pennsylvania and Ohio, thanks to layoffs in the construction, manufacturing and auto industries.

Inflation creeping up: We also learned that the annual inflation rate climbed to 2.2% in October, according to the BLS, which is the third consecutive monthly increase.

Coal plants closing: A report by the liberal Union of Concerned Scientists, released (naturally) a week after the election, finds that as many as 353 coal-fired plants will close as a result of Obama's environmental rules.

Small banks disappearing: Fortune reported three days after the election that the "overwhelming conclusion" of industry analysts and consultants was that Dodd-Frank would cause thousands of small banks to disappear. As a side note, one month before the election a Fortune "fact check" (by the same reporter, no less) blasted Romney for saying during one of the presidential debates that Dodd-Frank was "killing regional and small banks."

Meanwhile, stocks are down about 5% since Election Day as the mainstream press tries to blame it on anything but Obama's re-election. The latest culprit is supposed to be fears about the fiscal cliff. But even if that were true, it shows how little confidence investors have in Obama's ability to avoid taking the country over it.

Obama keeps saying that his top priority for his second term is jobs and growth, but the only thing he's pushed since his re-election is a massive tax hike on the so-called rich.

That's despite the fact that Obama knows these tax hikes will hurt economic growth. He admitted as much in 2010, when he extended the Bush tax rates, citing the harm a tax hike would cause a weak economy. And now, thanks to an Ernst & Young study, we know that Obama's tax hikes will kill 710,000 jobs.

Obama got re-elected largely by blaming Bush for everything bad that happened during his first term. So who's he going to blame now?

On thing I note on the employment figures.

If you look, when new unemployment enrollee figures come out, they always seem to be adjusted upward later (almost all the time too), and when the jobs figures come out, these almost always seem to be adjusted downward.

With regards to the press and the fiscal cliff, it is part of the reason for the stock fears, but the press doesnt mention who is driving the bus.

Their idea of progressiveness back then was to allow people to make choices for themselves and to vote for people to represent them and their needs in a democratically elected congress, and not be totally beholden to a reigning monarchy or ruling class.
