Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

I'm not sure what Gov. Romney has to offer but what the heck, why not?

The man knows business, so perhaps he and Obama may find some sort of idea to work on to start creating new jobs in this country again

I'm not sure what Romney has to gain...with any luck, Barry will ask him some pertinent and intelligent questions about how to get the economy moving, the debt paid down, the deficit replaced with a manageable budget, etc.

Nah, but they WILL see. Unfortunately when they do, they'll still blame it on others.

Don't get me wrong, I hope we DON'T get to that point, but sadly that's where we're headed. We shall see.

All we can do is wish them well...

Stupid? who voted for the loser? It wasn't the Obama voters. They voted for a winner. Who was stupid enought to waste thier time and energy last month, going into the voting booth, and checking off Mitt Romney? it wasn't Obama voters now, was it?

Why did so many Republiclowns actually think Romney could win. Up to the night of the election, some were predicting a "Landslide victory" Now, thats, amazing stupidity..

Ha, what a mass of speculation...here is my guess: President Obama now has definitive proof that Mitt is a tax cheat and is going to offer him his freedom in exchange for paying some really hefty fines and penalties, otherwise he will drag him publicly through the mud. That makes as much sense as the rest of the crap, especially that southern fried sheet from those demented Texans who post online here.

The facts are exactly what Romney stated, he offered them more free stuff. He wants to create a country of people dependent on government. It is the socialist way. If it wasn't that, then give me five reasons why someone would have voted for him. And please don't tell me he killed Bin Laden, or ended don't ask don't tell or supports gay marriage. That does not put food on the table.

Yes, the problem is that Romney told the truth and people didn't like hearing the truth. How do you pander to a given group if you tell them they are looking for a government hand out? I think, after the election Romney was not surrounded by "consultants" (you know the guy from out of town who knows everything about your town but never lived there) who had to put the shackles on him.

It's simple- cut taxes and it will pay off the deficit. In fact, as taxes go to zero revenues go to infinity- they are inversely proportional. Buy eliminating taxes, we all get rich. Picture all of America, just one big leisure class. All of us living in several houses with car elevators, not needing anything from the government. Gosh Obama, don't pass this up! Also, Rape is a gift from God and we need another troop surge.

Also, the more you drill the more oil there is. All we do is drill everywhere and gas will be free. Can you believe we passed on all this free stuff?

Obama, still shocked that he won re-election after his atrocious first four year and what it did to the american economy, has to eat crow and call Mitt Romney.

His first question, "Mitt, how do I fix an economy??"

2nd Question, "Can I please "borrow" your financial game plan so i can try and redeem myself and not go down as the president who ruined america."

                      Truth.. from where MSNBC?

Fox News, if you look at their actual news reporting (not their opinion shows like Hannity Limbaugh Jr) are actually pretty good, and are the main reason we know a lot more about what happened in Benghazi than we were led to believe.

politicoguy, you don't know a lot more about Benghazi. Nobody does. You get the news that fits what you want to hear on that particular day. Thats what we have now, news structured for all sizes, all shapes. There is no more one size fits all news. The days of Walter Cronkite, and Tom Brokaw, are gone. There is NO unbiased news. People watch (and believe) what they want. Whatever suits your style. If you think FOX News, with thier: fair and unbiased, No-spin rhetoric, is giving you the REAL truth, than you are as dumb as a stump.

As with the MSNBC, NBC, CBS, CNN, whatever. Its all pick and poke until you like what you find.

Its all about ratings. And each outlet has a demographic group, that swears by them in loyalty, and thus the ratings soar, and revenues go up. Its all BS.

I think you will find that viewership for Fox news is higher than 3 or 4 of the liberal slanted News outlets put together. I get my news from NBC, I then check that news with various outlets to get a picture of reality. What I do find interesting is that NBC news by far has more fluffy democratic stories than any other organization, the fact that they had NO articles or stories on the Lybian issue up until the election is very telling. I watch almost all of NBC's stories...except when Andrea Mitchell is the correspondent. Then I swith the channnel, she is so in love with mr Obama I can't watch her!

Hardly the truth, but if you sleep better at night thinking Fox distorts the truth, then so be it.

You are aware that Fox and CNN are the two that broke the story. CNN was handed the diary of ambassador Stevens and Catherine Herridge uncovered many of the facts regarding that the government had real time video feeds showing them that this was a coordinated attack and not some protest over a video, and the cable sent to the State Department saying that the consulate could not be properly defended by a coordinated attack.

It was after these two stations ran with and kept pushing the story that the Administration has been forced to actually answer questions. I saw little to nothing about this on any of the major networks, such as CBS, NBC or ABC, and MSNBC ran from it like it was the plague.

This is real news, and thank god there are still those that believe in reporting the news.

Shesafatone....... FoxNews topped every station with regards to election night coverage, including the major networks. If people dont like them, I dont understand why so many watch them. (Kind of refutes the points of those that claims Fox lies about the news).

Intelligence has nothing to do with whether or not you can convince people you will better provide for them as was done by Obama. Having a better campaign and having a news media that is in full support of your campaign does not make one smart.

Mitt so much wanted to go to the White House and now he has his chance. I expect that Romney will pledge to help the President any way he can (of course he won't be able to find any way) as the loser usually does for the winner. It is protocal and makes everyone feel better.

Fortunately in America, while we fight tooth and nail during elections we are not prone to assassinations or coup d'etat kind of things as in other parts of the world.

62 million eligible voters voted for Obama, 58 million eligible voters voted or Romney, and 8 million eligible voters either voted for another candidate or did not vote at all. That means that roughly 52% of eligible voters voted AGAINST Obama while 48% voted for Obama. That is hardly what I would call a mandate and over half of ALL eligible voters are UNHAPPY with the outcome of the election. So, no. Romney nor the Republicans should eat crow. Anyone with even a modicum of intelligence knows that Obama and the Liberals have a tough row to hoe when more than 1/2 of the voters in the country will be keeping score and rounding up more support for those who are conservative and DO NOT support the Liberal agenda to unseat the Obama supporters (Democrats, RINO's, Independents) in the next congressional elections in 2 years. You cannot write off over 1/2 the voters in this country as just 'sore losers'. Whether the more than 1/2 are Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Green Party, Tea Party, or whatever, they cannot and should not be discounted. This country WILL NOT survive without them.
