Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

M6X3: If you support Romney, then your comment makes no sense. If Romney considers himself to be a gentleman with class, then the last thing in the world he is going to do is spit in the face of the President. That would insult the President, more than half the nation, and would be a type of criminal battery. So, if you really think Romney is such a great guy, why would he do such a reprehensible thing?

I can tell you what is going to happen at this meeting. They will eat and drink. They will reminisce about the lighter moments of the campaign and talk about their families. Obama will ask Romney what his plans are for the future; Romney will offer a few words of advice. One of them will tell a joke. Then they will shake hands and it will be over.

Expectoration is not on the menu for this meeting.

      Dateline: Da Formerly White House

In a carefully worded announcement, Assistant Press Secretary for Small Things on the Down Low, Mr. Dijonaise Brown, announced that “..Aspirin will be heavily taxed under the Obama Care health tax
program, because they are white and they work..”

“I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races. I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people. And I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. … And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.” – Abraham Lincoln in his fourth debate with Stephen Douglas in the campaign for the United States Senate on September 18th of 1858.

Romney's first thoughts will be how bad Obama $hitted up the joint. Velvet paintings and the POTUS bong on the Resolute desk. Second observation will be how does Obama get work done when there are no phones and computers. Then he'll realize, Obama doesn't get anything done.

It's sad that some of you can't get over the election. Rommey would not have been working for "all" Americans. The funny thing here however is that those crying the loudest most likely don't even make the national average when it comes to wages. So really what would Rommey have done for you?

For middleclass households like mine he would have screwed us! So get over the fact that the President is black, at least he's working for everyone...even the HATERS!

If he was working for everyone, he would have made priorty one job creation when he took office in Jan of 2009. It was not prioty one.

Creating jobs increases tax revenues, giving the government the funds to pay their bills. It is simple economics. Clinton understood it, but somehow I think it was lost on the current Administration or the advisors.

Maybe it has something to do with the philosophy of leading from behind? Spend money... raise taxes, then try to create jobs. Similar thought process involved in both philosophies.

Are you looking for a large home, because you can not only afford it,but each of your children's college fund is full...Your employer has agreed to pay all of your medical bills, and the last time you went grocery shopping your cart was so full, and because of "lower gas /food prices you have money left over to donate to the food pantry.I keep hearing how those of us who didn't vote for Obama have ''gotta" get over the black thing...come on..it's not a black, blue, yellow, white, red, or paisley thing...we're in trouble, and the out look isn't good...4 more years ahead...sigh

That my friend is the race card draw back..if a negative thing is said by anyone, including the press we're labeled a racist...I could say I hated the tie he was wearing, and I 'd get feed back that I didn't accept his blackness...I am indeed a 35 year old African "AMERICAN' woman who owns her own dental practice in Chicago...due to Obama care and the state of the economy ,business is slow..it's not good we're all hurting...so No ,I didn't vote for Obama, because he was Black...I voted for a change.

            Right direction?

Unemployment is higher than in 2009 when he took office, people are making less, participation in the workforce at historic lows (which means unemployment is actually much higher than being reported), housing market in the toilet, healthcare costs are increasing at an even faster rate after Obamacare was passed, record deficit spending, national debt has increased 60% in 4 years.

What is right about that direction? Please explain your logic to me.

If he had done these things but had an actual plan to address it that was comprehensive and legitimate (not just let the Bush tax cuts expire on the $250k), then perhaps I could give him additional time. He has had 4 years and really has not provided anything of substance on job growth, which should have been his primary and only objective when he first took office. Why did he wait until now to try to do something, and please dont throw out the talking point that the R's blocked him.

The D's had control of the House and Senate until January of 2011, but its the R's fault. Instead of making excuses and blaming others, do the job that you were elected to do 4 years ago. That is the definition of a true leader.

Many good people are turned off by the nasty environment in the political arena. I used to serve as an elected official in my town and saw firsthand how nasty it is even at that level. After one four year term I said thanks but no thanks.

This country was built and DEFENDED by REAL men and women. If left up to liberals this country would not even exist.

There are some on the extremes of both sides that are part of the reason why there is so much hatred and annymosity in the political arena.

Social Security was started in either 1938 or 1939.

It is failing as well, but because the Federal Government has been abusing the revenues to use for other things, instead of leaving them where they should have been all along, in a separate fund solely to be used for Social Security and Medicare.

You people disgust me, keep in mind the 48% of the country did vote for Mitt. There was no mandate it was a close race. Keeping with your attitudes you wonder why 50% of the country hates the other 50%, and I mean hates more than ever. You have states like Texas who are putting forth request to leave the country and become their own country. I have never heard of such things before. Be clear this country is divided one side hates the other, politics will still remain divided and both left and right extremes will get worse in both parties. Other countries have gone this way which have lead to their demise. I hope we all enjoy the way to the bottom.

You can only thank King Obama and his followers for that. Class warfare, war on women, war on the poor, war on latinos, and he thinks he is a leader. The guy is an embarrassment.

Nothing new. It was split in 2000. The Supreme Court had to decide that one.

It was almost 50-50 in 2004 too.

2008 was a little different, because of the collapsing Bush economy and his bungled wars.

                                Sam

2008 was different because the Republicans ran an old tired looking person who had been in Washington for too long, and then chose someone totally not ready to be his running mate.

Obama was a fresh face with new energy, and what at the time seemed like a positive message.

Too bad the energy and message didnt carry over once he was sworn in. It has to do with something that happens in the swearing in ceremony. Memory loss perhaps? It happens to our congressmen and Senators too. They forget who they are there to work on behalf of once they are sworn in.

We do know this. And we know that there just weren't enough hillbillies, rednecks and white trash to put Romney over the top. But he did win every one of the bottom 10 states in education except Nevada. Obama won every one of the top 10 states in education by wide margins. Makes it real clear why republicans want to cut funding for education.

The 51% deserve the outcome, while the rest of us are just screwed.

President Obama is a gracious winner. Governor Romney is a gracious loser.

I wouldn't call Obama a winner under any circumstances. He's just a much better bull$hitter and 51% fell for it yet again. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. So shame on you 51%!!!

The facts are exactly what Romney stated, he offered them more free stuff. He wants to create a country of people dependent on government. It is the socialist way. If it wasn't that, then give me five reasons why someone would have voted for him. And please don't tell me he killed Bin Laden, or ended don't ask don't tell or supports gay marriage. That does not put food on the table.
