Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

Wall Street and Investment bankers messed this country up. Where do Investment firms (which Willard ran) get their money from? Do you know, do you know, do you know?

The sincere thing I find sad is people are actually happy that Obama won. I have news for you if you voted for Obama you not only FAILED your country!!! You failed your family, your children, grandchildren and down the line, your neighbors, your friends, coworkers, people you don't even know. It is sad that you follow someone that has zero alligence or even 1/2 decent ideals. But congrats you have sentenced this country and the rest of us to for more years of failures!!! Have fun trying to sleep while you think of your kids and grand kids standing in a bread line because of your stupid mistake

      Solid waste...

Obama won, because he faced an opponent who "isn't worried about 47% of the American people"

I'll bet YOUR friends, coworkers, children, grandchildren and people YOU don't even know, are part of that disposable group.

He said so, why wouldn't you believe him?

Obama's sole purpose is to use the Governor which is another way of grandstanding before the American people. He's skilled at this and is one reason folks fell for his BS and was reelected despite his disgusting first 4 years.

Obama is going to ask Mitt to help him setup an investment account, since he has no clue about finance. Furthermore, he'll ask Mitt to hide everything offshore and in foriegn investments so his IRR goes up after Obama ruins the country.

Your right Stan he really should thank Romney. Never has there been a more vulnerable sitting President. Romney (and the rest of the Republiclowns) basically gave him another term. Had there been a real, viable candidate (not Bachman, Santorum, Gingrich, or any of those other idiots who tried) Obama could have been beat. Clinton beat an incumbant Bush Sr., Reagan beat an incumbant Carter... If you want to beat a vulnerable incumbant, you need a true candidate who relates to ALL Americans, not just a select few. Romney was just not the guy.. Obviously!

Based on some of the posts here, it appears there's alot of "buyer's remorse" in the US. Romney has the solution to our economic woes and Pres.O wants to pick his brain. Pres. O and his advisors (Geithner) couldn't figure it out in his first 4 and I'm fairly confident theh won't be able to figure it out in his last 4. Knowing Romney loves his country, I'm sure he'll try and help the Pres. for the sake of this country.

The President will most likely throw him a bone and implement some sort of minor Romney campaign idea and a gesture of good will to the losing party.

Unfortunately, as is quite obvious from the posts in this discussions, Republicans and the Tea Partiers will ignore it and continue with their obstruction of the truly important issues.

Heck yeah we're campaigning. We won the election and we will campaign against conservative obstruction to implement the policies that the American people chose.

Romney's campaign was bad and the vast majority of his ideas were bad, and the American people knew it, period.

Republicans on the Hill are still acting like they won and are trying to implement the ideas of the losing campaign.

                That has to stop.

That should have been priority 1 when Obama took office in Jan 2009.

If job creation were the primary focus, just think of the additional revenues that could have been generated by more people working, instead of disappearing from the workforce rolls.

Obama and his advisors missed the most important page from the Clinton playbook. "Its the economy, stupid".

We still have the house - you aren't the big winners you think you are and that's where the bitterness comes in.

Obama has no idea how to fix the economy or how to prevent the fiscal cliff so he is asking Romney how to fix it.

I told you we should have elected Mitt in the first place!

The cliff is a political issue, not a financial one.

The President doesn't have to do anything. If the Republicans don't compromise polls show that they will take the blame for the negative consequences going into the 2014 midterms.

Republicans in Congress are painted into a corner on this one and they're stalling and distracting as much as they can instead of taking care of business.

Who cares who takes the blame as by the time the next election cycle rolls around, it will be too late as we will be in a severe recession with unemployment well into double digits (even with the workforce participation rate at historic lows).

Also, not much will change as with the redistricting, many Democrats and Republicans are safe in their districts which is why the run unopposed.

Since when do the winners cave in to the losers? Democrats have all the leverage.

Republicans seem to think that since they lost, their policies should be implemented. That is most backasswards thing I have ever heard.

Although they WERE candidates for office, now that the race is over, they are just men again. Two men who beat the ever loving sh*t out of each other on the campaign trail and now need a moment of personal reconciliation. Doesn't anyone here remember the end of Rocky IV?

I think its a good start. I couldn't support Romney for President, but I was a fan of some of his ideas. If he really does have a plan to put folks back to work, as he claimed, he should share it (he didn't seem to want to during the campaign) As another American citizen, who cares about the country (which Romney obviously does) he should help by sharing his recovery plans. Those beyond tax cuts for the wealthy, which never will create jobs.

And hopefully, President Obama can be receptive, and open-minded enough to consider all of the good points.

Because I'm from Massachusetts, Romney was my Governor for a term, he was an A-hole then, and he is still one now. Besides, I'm one of the 47% of Americans, Romney dosen't care to worry about.

(he told me so, I believed him) I work and pay taxes, so that he and his friends don't have to.

He'd get to spend a lot of time in the White House and pretend it all belongs to him and he'd find a way to move money around, in a quiet way, to his offshore accounts.
