Obama, Romney to meet for lunch Thursday

After a long and -- at times -- contentious campaign, President Obama and Mitt Romney sit down together for lunch at the White House on Thursday. NBC's Brian Williams reports.

President Obama and the man he defeated in the 2012 presidential contest -- Republican Mitt Romney -- will have lunch Thursday at the White House, Obama's press secretary announced.

It will be the first meeting since the election's end.

The White House said there will be no press coverage of the meeting.

Well there certainly aren't any Republicans inviting Romney to lunch!! I agree with the sentiment that the President has class to do this. He is also keeping his word. He said he would sit down with Romney after the election and he is doing just that. He can certainly learn a lot about the tax code... and how the 1% avoids paying from this man. Obama is meeting with all types of business leaders about the fiscal cliff. We know he doesn't agree with Romney's policies but there is nothing wrong with listening to him...and it is another example of the President's bipartisanship. Obama is open to the ideas of others. He is not a "my way or the highway" type of leader like McConnell. He is clearly the better man and will do whatever is best for the country.

Really - have you listened to anything this man says? He has ALWAYS been a "my way or the highway" man. He is finally realizing that it is not working. Now he has to beg others to help him get things done. The little weasel is learning humility.

What do you do Daisy, beside hate and scrap the GOP plates.

LOL @ daisy Oh now he's realizing huh? I guess having Karl "turd blossom" Rove have a mental meltdown on national television, having Fox News completely freak out with him and Romney having his own "I refuse to concede because Karl said I would win" episode on election night scared the bejebus out of Obama huh? LMAO

I hope they show a nice photo in tomorrow's news that shows Mitt's face when his car pulls off from the Peoples' White House.

Hey Mitt ... you're going to the White House the same way I did .... as a VISITOR ....

Don't overstay your welcome now .... ya hear ...!

      UVA,

Actually he was an invited visitor who garnered over 50 million votes for president after having the courage to run. He is an invited visitor because he may be able to offer actual suggestions to help grow our economy. You are simply a coward who anonymously posts hate on the internet. Pretty big difference.

Yep he's an invited VISITOR. About all he'll ever be. If you can't win after campaigning since 1994 for the job I guess visiting is the next best thing. How else would he ever get to see the interior? LOL

Love to be a fly on the wall, hope something positive comes out of the meeting. After watching Romney for 6 years and his spineless stances, I seriously doubt we will ever know which Romney appeared. One thing for sure, Romney kows how to milk the present system to his benefit, he makes lots of paper money and hides a lot, nothing tangible, i.e. building factories only closing them and loading them up with debt, corporations are people too my friend, huh.

Ahhhh flashbacks to Hillary. "I beat you but I have no idea what foreign policy is. Could ya help a brother out and be my Secretary of State?"

And now Romney "I beat you but I have no idea how to turn this economy around. Wanna have lunch?"

Just like he did back in the Illinois days. Smear the competition, use the silver tongue, dig up all the dirt until they have to withdraw from the race and convince the people you will turn it around with no idea of how to do it.

You should team with, "Talk to the Hand". You two could make money for the next GOP clown that runs for President. Then he or she won't be beholding to the Kochs, just the hand and the mouth.

Shortly after the election Pres. Obama stated that he hoped to sit down with ?Gov. Romney for talks. He indicated that Romney had, in his mind, some good ideas and an ability to help the country.

For those that feel so strongly that Romney is so bad, ask your self one question; did the statement from the Pres. about what Romney has to offer the country indicate that the vitriol comments made by many here are wrong, or did the Pres. lie to the country?

I don't know how so many people here that say they support the President can so easily dismiss what he says, all for the childish delight they get making silly remarks.

Shellie, look at the big picture. The left has demonized Romney from the start, the Pres. States that Romney has something to offer and yet the left continues to demonize Romney and beatifies the Pres. Make up your mind, do you believe our Pres when he says that Romney has something to offer the country? The problem with both sides is that they can never get their stories straight, just damn the other side regardless of what they say.

I would definitely count the silver before Romney left the White House. He needs to recoup all that money he spent on the election somehow and I wouldn't put it past him.

This is why we can't and have not moved forward fast enough. We can't seem to get together for any reasons. It would be nice to see the two of them work together maybe the rest of us who can't seem to accept anything from any party can learn alot. Think were we would have been if the past four years of "no" would have been "yes".

Of course they have lunch together without the media. They're on the same team you idiots. When are people going to wake up and realize there is NO difference in the two parties. They are PUT in office by the same people that had Kennedy shot. If you only knew how stupid you look arguing about who's right. You've taken the bait and are adding to the problem.

Yes... they are more or less the same, just different money backers...although some of the big guys donate to both parties.

I think you saw this when the media totally blacked out Ron Paul...probably smarter then Mitt and Obama combined... I think that showed you that only the chosen are allowed to play this game, with either being good for corporate America and non stop wars/bombing/drones/etc.

                      #120.2 - Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:05 PM EST

The fact Ron Paul is still alive is amazing in itself. The media's owned by the bankers too so thats not really surprising. What is totally disgusting though is the way the Republican voters showed just what cowards they are and didnt say a thing. They just bought the "He's Crazy" line from FOX and went back to their denial.WE have GOT to stop fighting with each other.

I hope they're talking about jobs, that and the economy and gov't spending are by far the most important issues in this county right now. The entitlements must be reigned in, we need a more talented workforce (STEM anyone?), and we to make sure that our safety nets do not turn into hammocks. Oh, and everybody should be in a union or NOBODY at all. And I know everybody in a union would be terrible so it should be nobody. Unions unfairly inflate one particular trade so the price of that trades output goes sky high, and the consumer, along with everybody who is not in a union, gets screwed. That's a huge reason why anything that can be made elsewhere, IS. That's also why air travel is ridiculous, healthcare is outrageously priced, and Detroit almost died. Our schools are mediocre compared to many in the world, until you move past the k12 where unions have a virtual stranglehold and get into college. Everything touched by unions gets more expensive while quality declines. Why try hard when it's so hard to be fired? Competition, innovation, and good morals can uplift a nation. Anything else brings us down.

Obama may well be looking for inclusion. He certainly does need it. Obama may have won the election but he still doesn't know how to revive the economy. Romney does. Romney got almost half the vote for a reason. Obama would be foolish to not include him.

It appears the President is showing he meant it when he said to the republicans he would consider all proposals. Since Mr. Romney never provided much detail at all concerning his tax proposals to raise revenues it is my hope that he will share more specifics now. It is to President Obama's credit to listen. If only the republican mouthpieces, Boehner and McConnell, could learn from this good faith effort.

The election is over! Common knowledge right? I must ask where is the wisdom and the participation? Not only by government, but by the majority of American people also. Do you think the problem was solved by just the election? If so your wisdom is "lacking" terribly. No doubt one of the biggest issues is the economy. There is a bigger one in the subtle background. It should be observed as easily as the sun glaring on a bright day.
