Firebrand Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., said Tuesday he had conceded in his bid for re-election to Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy.
Fourteen days after Election Day, West, a favorite of Tea Party conservatives who had sought a recount and raised the prospect of inaccuracies in the results, said in a statement that his legal team "does not believe there are enough over-counted, undercounted or fraudulent votes to change the outcome of the election."
"While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election," West said.

Murphy led by about 1,900 votes following a partial recount in the district.
He added a bit later on Fox News: "We're going to move ahead and we wish Congressman-elect Murphy very well, but I think that now is not the time to draw the process out."
West was a lieutenant colonel in the Army, during which time he served in the Iraq war. He successfully ran for Congress in 2010, aided by the Republican headwinds that year in his challenge to Democrat Ron Klein in a swing district. He sought re-election in a slightly more favorable district following the redrawing of congressional district boundaries prompted every decade by the Census.
The victory for Murphy adds to Democrats' pickup in the House, and disarms conservatives of one of their most brash voices in Congress. He, for instance, equated economic dependence upon government — through programs like Social Security — to slavery, and West called Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a fellow Florida lawmaker, "vile" and "not a lady."
West's departure from Capitol Hill also means that that Congress will lose one of its two black Republicans. West and South Carolina Rep. TIm Scott, R, are the only two African American members of the GOP conference; West was the only Republican member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

I always read comments and don't know why because they are so depressing. The hatred that is spewed between the two major political parties is appalling. This is not one country anymore. I remember a time when this was one country and we all pulled together. Those days are gone. When I was in high school my father died leaving us no insurance and few assets to sell to live on. My mother had become disabled after working 3 to 4 jobs at the same time for many years. We were forced to go on welfare and food stamps. I was so ashamed and embarrassed (as was she) that when I graduated from high school, instead of going on to college, I immediately went to work so I would not have to take money I didn't earn. That is what welfare was intended for - to help people get through tough times - and then to get a job and get off welfare. The problem is that no one is ashamed to take government money any more and it is almost a badge of honor to be able to "work the system". There is no longer pride in working for what you get and it is greedy to want to keep what you earn but not greedy to want to take what is earned by someone else so you don't have to earn your own. I voted for Obama in 2008 and for Romney in 2012 because I'm more worried about this country collapsing financially than I am about social issues. If this country goes under financially it won't really matter who you can marry or whether or not you can get free birth control. You'll just be fighting to survive. That's where we're going because too many people want the government to take care of them without asking where the money is going to come from.

Bill Clinton handed the keys to the White House to Dubya when we had a healthy economy, a balanced budget and even a budget surplus not to mention a health consumer confidence rate along with a strong stock market. Within a couple of years Bush had blown through this and exploded the deficit. He hand Obama the worst disaster since the Great Depression which was also caused by a decade of GOP governance and then as now, the Right bitched that FDR was not cleaning up their disaster quickly enough. The Bush administration will go down in the history books as perhaps the most atrocious presidency in the entire post war era. And if not that, it will damn close, that you can bet on.

Well half of the yearly budget deficit is due to the bush tax cuts, which were unnecessary at the time. Regan tried it and exploded the budget deficit each year of his two terms. Bush decided to try it again, and again the same thing happened. Supply side economics just doesn't work. If you don't believe that bush had anything to do with the debt, you are only 1 in in every 5000 Americans who don't. Can you deny that he left both a deep debt and economic hole? I haven't heard Obama mention Bush's name since 2008.

The GOP love to talk about the debt at 1.6 trillion. Lets do some basic math, 10 billion a month for a war in Iraq and Afganistan times 132 months (11 years to help with the math) equalls 1.32 trillion with a "T". Which is roughly about the deficit now. So the sooner we get out of the "stan" the less the defict will be and the less we have to hear how we dont have any money. not to mention the apparatus of homeland security and its associated costs since 9/11. The GOP seem to forget that some americans do have memories, pay attention to former and current events, and understand when someone is bald face lying to your face. National debt is $16 TTTrillion, not 1.6 trillion. The annual deficit is around $1.3 TTTrillion. Reagan, Bush, and "W" are responsible for $10 TTTrillion of the 16.
