Watching morning TV news shows can be a surreal experience. One second you see the body of a small child extracted from the wreakage of a home, the next minute the hosts are yucking it up over some pop culture thing. It's strange.
This Sunday, I tuned into Today, which started with a voiceover of Erica Hill describing the attacks on Gaza. I thought, oh, I can see why they choose to replace Jenna Wolfe with Hill, if they are going with a more hard news format on Sunday morning. (Not that Wolfe couldn't do it, she could totally read hard news headlines, but Erica Hill has that serious-news vibe.) But the quick voice over reporting of the attacks on Gaza quickly turned into the usual morning show silliness about funny videos from the Internet and all that. I find myself wondering, why am I watching this stuff?
If anyone is listening, I really enjoyed Today when it was Wolfe and Holt, just doing their thing. I'm not against silliness in a morning show, per se, since it seemed like the hosts balanced serious and silly things pretty well. But, this new format is a trainwreck, in my humble opinion. It's nobody's fault, except the producers', and mine for watching TV when I should have been cleaning the kitchen. Just thought I'd put in my two cents. I'm not liking the morning show changes on the weekend on NBC.
