Is this the answer? Florida Sen. Marco Rubio made a trip to Iowa. The AP’s Elliott: “Ostensibly, Rubio’s visit to this early nominating state was for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad’s birthday party. But the political implications of Rubio’s visit were clear from the start as the Republican Party looks ahead to 2016’s presidential contest… But his birthday wishes for Branstad were more like a roadmap for his party looking for a new direction and an argument for a Rubio presidential campaign.”

Well, for Dog's sake, what did anybody expect? The man had no principles, no vision, and no firm beliefs except, 1. There should be NO taxes on him and his class, and 2. He deserves to be president because, you know, it's his turn. All Romney ever was was an empty suit, the ideal Norquist puppet. His nomination, right from the beginning, was as inevitable as the changing Pacific tides. The real powerbrokers behind the Republican Party knew what they didn't want in a president, and Romney was the perfect blank canvas for them.
I can just imagine ole Mitt now, hunkered down in an undisclosed location with George W, learning how to get blind, stinking inebriated... and who's to say Georgie-Boy ain't back into that there booger sugar, too? At least they're both in a position to do no further harm to the rest of us.
Unfortunately Mr. Romney has five sons following him. At least one of them will be wanting to prove he can accomplish what daddy could not. I am not sure we have really seen the last of them.

The craziest elements of the Republican Party were on display, for MONTHS this year, during the Primary, and I don't think this helped the Republican Party brand. Herman Cain made news with the sexual harassment allegations against him, Michelle Bachman was Sarah Palin all over again and Donald Trump was like the ringmaster of the entire circus. Romney was just not likeable enough to overcome the bad atmosphere around him.
Republicans got behind Romney when he finally won, but the number of Republicans who said they wanted another choice right up to the vote, was striking. So, I guess what I would say was, Romney was the best choice for the Republicans out of a bad field, but that doesn't mean he was a good candidate.

Lets just keep a happy thought in the hopes that given enough time he can actually teach Bush to pronounce NUCLEAR!!! That whole Republican fiasco is just an ongoing embarrassment and insult to real Americans. Whether part of them realize it yet or not.
As to Rubio, I think he has some of the same baggage that the GOP needs to shed. He won't say that the earth is more than 6,000 years old (I doubt that he actually believes in a young earth, but he is afraid to lose the wackos in his party who do believe in a young earth).
I wouldn't be too sure that Romney is "tucking his tail" and running away from anything! I wouldn't surprise me to see him have a very large effect on the political field in the very near future since he is actually a very tough intelligent character who doesn't tolerate corruption to any degree. He and a multitude of collegues will not sit by and see this country destroyed by the ignorance of it's people led by a "Pied Piper" actually led by foreigners, nor will the rest of the free world!!
Those in the position of stature like Romney are in, did not get where they are by bowing down to figurehead fools controlled by outsiders; nor are they fooled by them as uninformed voters who get caught up in a scam are!! People like Romney know how to get out of debt and prosper unlike an inexperienced, failed leader who knows little about turning a million dollar debt, much less a multi trillion dollar debt into a profitable country again!!
Obama has already promised mega bucks to give voters what they wanted to get their votes and they foolishly believed that he will keep his promises while turning around our national debt!! He couldn't even do that with a majority in both houses the first two years of his first term WITHOUT all the added promises this term. What he is not telling the American People is that the very wealthy in this country may pay the increase in taxes for the first couple of years by giving less to all of the various charities they give to help the needy and less fortunate right now. He's using their money to make himself look good when he is basically taking money that would have already been going to those less fortunate! How long do you think it will take him to raise the taxes on every citizen in this country...I would be willing to bet that it takes him less then two years if he isn't booted out first!! The very wealthy are not going to just sit back and allow him to continue to take more and more from them to pay for his promises. Their money will be safely in places that he can't touch by then and the smart ones will be with their money as well!!
If you want to know how this country will be in a very few years under Obama, you might want to look into how the Hutterites and some of the other colonies in this country live so you will know what's coming. They all eat the same, dress the same and pretty much everything they have is owned by the colonies. The younger people within the colonies are seeing the freedoms we have and are moving in this direction for a reason....they want the freedom to work and earn for themselves...AND THAT IS SOMETHING TOO MANY AMERICANS WANT FOR NOTHING!!
You will be trading your rights & your freedoms away in order to be like everyone else and will find that it sucks when you don't have them any more!! It's like being in a prison with very little rights and you actually have to earn your privileges!!

The problem is that good candidates (such as, say, Jon Huntsman) had no chance of getting the nomination in 2012. Only extremists who could placate the christo-taliban wing of the party could be nominated. In 2016, more of the old angry white men will have died off and they might have a chance to get an candidate that doesn't scare moderates and independents.
The Republicans need to understand that they can't win elections appealing to their lunatic fringe. I was reading this posting on this Republican Facebook page the said that if people just understood the importance of capitalism then more would follow the Republican mantra. Unfortunately for them they have formed this unholy alliance of capitalist, right wing religious nut jobs, birthers, college transcript demanders, white supremacist, skinheads and who knows what else that scare the living daylights out of the swing voters that really dictate who wins elections. These cretins going around saying the Republicans lost because they weren't conservative enough are clueless as to what it will take to bring the swing voters into the flock

Romney's defeat was close compared to the shellacing that any of the others would have caused: Bachman, Cain, Sanatorum, Gingrich, Perry, Paul et al.
And now, the Republicans can just blame the lose on Romney's lack of conservative credentials, and not bother actually updating their 18th century outlook.
Linda: Apparently you don't realize that we lost a great deal of our freedoms with the Patriot Act enacted under Bush. I don't think the Democrats can do much more damage than that. What I fear is the fundamentalist wing of the GOP aka Tea Party. There is no reasoning with a fundamentalist. The moderate wing of the Republican party needs to take back control and quit pandering to the extremists.
This has been interesting to read these blogs for the first time. Far left liberals, Tea Partiers. Blame the GOP Blame the Dems. WE STILL HAVE A SPENDING PROBLEM.
The government spending has tripled since the early Clinton years. Since the Dems took over congress in Jan of 2006 we have borrowed over 8 TRILLION dollars. For what (no Senat buget for 3 years, wonder wht they are hidding?) Our government is spending 3.7 trillion a year. We have 40 Trillion in Medicare, Medicaid and Soc Security promised entitlements coming down the pike, and Obama Care went from revenue neutral to a 2.6 million dollar cost over the next ten years (And we know Gov programs never cost more), and our military costs us another 800 billion a year. The fiscal cliff calls for 600 billion in cuts and we are borrowing 1.5 million the last six years, (real math look at gov numbers, not fuzzy math by Dems or GOP) printed 2 trillion in worthless paper money, and since FDR started Soc Security the government has borrowed 4.8 trillion from the so called funds and placed I.O.Us in the so called SS acct and doesn't count it as debt.
We need term limits, and cut spending. The Bush taxes on the rich will bring in about 70 billion year, The Bush taxes for poor and middle classs save them 350 billion a year. We need to stop spending a trillion a year or believe or not our debt could hit about 33 trillion by 2022!
The majority of people don't care about the GOP or their values anymore.
People just don't care about deficits, debt or borrowing and printing devalued currency, and they don't care about a few dead Americans in some country they will never go to. They just want their entitlements, healthcare and government sponsored programs, and they want the white people to pay for it. They see this as revenge on the America of tradition.
Further, people don't want to hear anything negative about Obama. They want an omniscient, benevolent African-American role model and leader, and talk of Trillions of Dollars of debt, mishandling foreign policy and pitting groups of Americans against each other for political gain is not what they want to hear about. People just want to be able to believe what they want to believe without the stodgy GOP raining on their parade.

If democrats really had a problem with the Patriot Act, why didn't they alter or repeal it? How is not repealing something they believe harmful NOT doing more damage? If it is as bad as you say, doe not every day it is enacted do more damage? This makes Obama just as responsible as Bush, right?

Just because Obama was elected doesn't mean your left-wing B.S. agendas are what the country wants. Obama was the lesser of two dimwits, and as long as we have a two party system in place, more and more elections will, and are, being decided this way. "Who will do the least damage," as opposed to "best person for the job." These two sentiments are light years apart. The VAST majority of people I know and work with are caught in the middle between the right and the left. Both sides are out of whack (a lot) in what the nation needs, so we are forced to ride the fence and hope for the best. Saying the Democrats are better than the Republicans is like saying lung cancer is much better than brain cancer. Both options suck.

The questions remain--if radical changes to the TPGOP are made, will the efforts to be more inclusive and more in line with what the majority of Americans think, really be sincere, or will they just be cosmetic? Will changes fundamentally remodel the party, or, like Mr. Romney and others, what is voiced in private be a different story than what is voiced in public? One lesson TPGOP should have gotten from the election--Americans saw through the window dressing and lack of sincerity. We will do so again!

It took the G.O.P. many years to change after the great depression, it was 40 years before the party was able to control either the house or the senate. Hopefully after the G.O.P. loses control of the house it will take 40 more years for them to promote their evil agenda.

John: Incredibly INCORRECT history. Republicans won a Congressional majority in both houses of Congress in both 1946 and 1952, but gave them back in the next cycle.
The GOP had their cheering section made up of nutjobs like Limbaugh and Linda above and the enthusiasm of these radicals made them believe the majority of Americans were buying all these conspiracy theories they themselves made up. We weren't. Maybe when they bring their platform in line with moderate republicans and run on what they plan for the country rather than trying to paint their opponent as the devil they'll win again. A campaign of trust me isn't enough for thinking Americans. Prove you're worthy of being POTUS and that what you plan will work. Had he shown his taxes and shown what he'd do to offset his tax cut he might of had a shot.
Won't Rubio be there "token" Latino? If there isn't a top to bottom change, that is what he will be seen as.
More elected Latino Republicans in major, statewide offices than there are Latino Democrats, I believe. First Latina governor ever. Decent amount in House of Representatives. The Democratic myth will remain that there aren't any, though. And obviously, if we can't find a way to grant some sort of legal status to those who were moved here as children by their parents and had no say and are at home here and not in their country of origin, that myth will eventually become truth.
Rubio won't be a token Latino; he's part of the whacked-out Tea Party. He, SP and limp-balls will have a great time putting forth their dooms day agenda. Too bad the rest of the country is too smart to fall for that garbage.

The RHINOS who run the Republican Party should be shelved and a new generation of sane, conservative and introspective people should come forth - altho I may get "blasted" for this suggestion, perhaps the Tea Party has a few of those within their midst.
At times they appeared to be the only sensible people during this entire fiasco - all they ever wanted was to bring a little common sense back to Washington and once again adhere to the Constitution as it was written.
Just remember, no one wants actual conservative in charge the the GOP. The next generation of Conservatives are more fiscally minded and are socially progressive. This scares the currect GOPer because they believe you cannot have one without the other. They feel that you have to be pro-life to be conservative. They believe that only way to true happiness is to drive anyone different away.
I believe people who need help should be helped, and the ones that are working the system should be rooted out and put to work.
I believe any 2 adults who love each other should be able to get married. Hey, with a 70%+ Divorce rate among Heterosexuals we are not he Bastions of what marriage is supposed to portray.
This country need to take a LONG HARD LOOK in the mirror and see what we have become. We need to look inward and take care of the folks in need in the USA and protect that. We need to look at the world and say, you don't like us? Ok, move on and never look back. Just don't come screaming for help when you have a natural disaster.
These beliefs scare the crap out of conservatives. We need people in our political system that have character enough to stand up and say. Hey, I'm the GOV and I am going to get out of the way. You will succeed or fail on your own.

Larry, you can't have it both ways, help or no? I am not being critical of your thoughts, but there are some things only the federal government can do. Sandy is a perfect example. There is no way any one state can help all the people with the losses they suffered or the infrastructure that needs to be rebuilt. I believe no man is an island and when all else fails the government can step in and do something. I don't like cheaters either so I think there should be more effort to stop people from gaming the system and companies too. Fraud is rampant in Medicare, subsidies and the military industrial complex. There are better ways to streamline the government than to stop helping people get ahead. Educate to emancipate, that is the key. It is not what you know that hurts you, it's what you don't know. Ignorance is not bliss, it leads to a hard life of hard work and with little to show for the effort.

I still think the GOP should rename themselves the "Gathering of Puppets". With all due respect, I live in Florida and although our skin-head Republican Governor tried to hijack the election, the fact remains that Florida went DEMOCRAT for the second election in a row!
This country does not need two progressive parties. The republicans who are now ya ya ing about becoming more moderate will only taint the true progressive party of the Democrats. Well, "only" six billion was spent overall, where as during the President's next term, the federal government alone will spend about sixteen trillion, or twenty-five hundred times as much. See how much will be spent marketing beer (not all alcohol, just beer) or dog food (not all pet food, just dog food) during the next four years for perspective. Also, seven of the ten largest-spending PACs were organized labor-affiliated groups, so it's not all about corporations.
Labor PACS represent millions of members and support the position of the vast majority of its members. Anyone really believe many teachers, firemen or police treated as greedy by republicans would support them? The super PACS funded by wealthy individuals the biggest of which, Sheldon was projected to save 2 billion in his first year if Romney won. Labor wants a president who at least recognizes the contribution of the majority of them even if most aren't affected at the federal level while Romney crafted special breaks specifically for his biggest donors including his proposed tax holiday on offshore money for Sheldon.
As for the debt, Bushs last budget ran from Oct. 2008 through Oct. 2009 and was projected by the CBO to run a 1.2 trillion deficit. What the right ignores is that had Obama simply ran on Bushs last budget we'd still have a 15.7 trillion debt.
I have been a Dem. for forty years and it shames me, they have went to far left for me, abc, nbc.cbs.and cnn news are so bias, they must not want to tell the people, what they should know, the truth; what a shame, and shame on them, I would not have thought this would ever happen, I guess I was wrong.

All this discussion is basically flawed. Romney, plain and simple, does still not get it. He is a rich aristocrat who has never lived the life of regular hard working people, cannot identify with them in any way and seeming is not interested in that subject. It's that he is bad guy he is just out of touch. I found that the "I'll bet you $10,000 dollars" statement during the primary explained his entire personality. That's what he is, a wealthy, money is no problem for me,spoiled business guy who thought it was his right to be president.
I could never identify much with the Kennedys, another fabulously wealthy family. They all had those aristocratic Bostonian accents. Only Bobby seemed to have any actual common touch imo, but millions seemed to worship them, and some apparently still do.
If the Republicans run Marco in 2016, but continue to cling to the anti-middle-class, anti-minority, anti-choice, and anti-female policies that they've loudly proclaimed in 2012, then Marco will be as big a FAIL as Mitt has been. Ask yourself how many black folks would vote for Clarence Thomas if they had a chance. Probably not many more than voted for Mitt the Twit. Skin color or accents are not the deciding factor -- policies are.

A black or hispanic spouting the tea party line won't sell it any better than Romney did. Romney's implementation of Romneycare and his support of gun control shows he wasn't a true right winger he merely evolved into what would get him the right wing support. Like Romney using the dark makeup when speaking to a hispanic group they need to modify their message. Barry's right they better change the message rather than a painted messenger.

You blast democrats for our 16 trillion dollar debt but ignore that Bush's last budget ran from Oct. 2008 through Oct. 2009 and was projected to increase the deficit by 1.2 trillion which had Obama simply ran the government under Bush's last budget for his 4 years we'd still have a 15.7 trillion deficit. You listen to the finger pointing from the right but aren't smart enough to realise it was republican policies that created our debt. Failing for the first time in history to fund 2 wars, a 100 billion unfunded drug plan and a 400 billion a year tax cut crashed our economy and created our debt. Yet the solution from you people was to cut taxes another 500 billion and increase military spending 200 billion a year then cry about entitlements creating our debt. Luckily most Americans are brighter than you.

It's been an enjoyable two weeks. Seeing the arrogant GOP crawl away with their tail between their legs was priceless. Lesson learned: don't piss off union members, working people, and women. My few Republican friends have been knocked off their arrogant pedestal and can't seem to get back up. They are quite a bit quieter now than they've been in a while. It's going to be a fun Thanksgiving not having to listen to Republican extended family members and their loud boisterous rants--they probably will continue to rant as they don't know any better. One election will probably not get rid of their irritating arrogance, but one can hope.

A lot of GOP tactics have been so blatantly greedy, manipulative, and xenophobic over the past 30 years that I may always see the party through that lens. The party of an Old Guard that refuses to admit that things change over time. The anti-education party. The belligerent jerk party. If there are many other people like me out there, conservatives would do better to start again from scratch. I believe that there's a rational conservative voice out there that needs to play some sort of role in America, but young conservatives today have 30 years of historical baggage to deal with.

Hell Romney is getting his garage elevator installed while he amends his tax returns to go after the rest of his credits before we ax all of them off his tax returns! I know how to solve the debt crisis real quick---we'll get rid of the carried interest and capital gains deduction and make it retroactive 5 years or maybe 10! Income is just going to be income and take the cap off SS and Medicare. Advise Boner that nobody touches Medicare unless we allow single payer early buy in to medicare in the debt negotiations. Institute the transaction tax on all Wall street actions and tax internet purchases. We have to go into these negotiations with barrels loaded with stuff they've never seen on the table before...We've learned...

Steve: The other republican candidates said that at the debates when they pointed out his refusal to release tax returns, his offshore accounts and his crafting of Romneycare. The right wing got behind Romney because he was flexible and simply added whatever they demanded to his platform. They convinced themselves that since no one could prove he was a tax cheat or used his offshore accounts to avoid taxes they weren't an issue. They were wrong. We don't have to prove he's unworthy to be POTUS he has to prove he is.
One "growing demographic" that should trouble the GOP, is the college-educated. Obama was the first Democrat ever, to receive a majority of that group.
The Fox/Rove appeal to race, religion and resentment will not help you with this group. Neither will denying Global Warming and Evolution. Time to re-tool.

OK I think you all have said it all..Not sure what additional insult or "zinger" I can throw in here to make one either wince or grin. What I would like to see is that both sides get their act together. We have some "grownup" stuff to get done and soon. GOP get your act together. We need you. Not the social conservative agenda ... thats irrelevant. We need you to really engage not just defend old positions. Conservatives should conserve. Lower taxes does not by definition cause economic growth. Never has. Besides if we as a nation spend we need to pay for it. Man up (sorry ladies) ... Dems, reduced spending does not have to lower economic growth. Entitlement reform...get on it. I do hope 4 years from now we have candidates that can tell us what they really believe...tell their fringe to shutup ...that they are wrong when they are wrong. I want smart strong candidates on both sides that can do that. Candidates that can discuss important items even if there is not a political gain as a result and a process that requires it. I would love to see Chris Christie step up. He would not be scared to talk about important issues. Climate change. There I said it..and its real. Get over it. Defense spending. There I said it. Oh, the Republicans now think Romney wasn't good enough? I don't think the clown show that was the last year before the election helped at all, but I could have got chosen over those morons. Oh, wait, I'm a woman that doesn't think men are smarter than me, so that would have got me tossed out with Huntsman. Romney flipped more than a telephone book in a windstorm, and didn't his party spend most of the election crapping on Kerry for that a few years back? If the party of 1850 doesn't get to at least the 20th Century next election, they can kiss it goodbye as far as any national election is concerned. Those states stuck in Time-Warp will eventually not elect them either, tho it might take a bit longer. America chose to re elect a guy who at least seemed to be a grown up, and not a guy who was essentially a Ken Doll with no more core or brain than that toy. And, actually, held less interest for women than Ken dolls do for little girls. Women, as was previously mentioned, have memories, and apparently news to GOPers, brains.
