VIDEO: The Week That Was: Gifts, fiscal cliff, and verbal fisticuffs

NBC's Mark Murray and Domenico Montanaro discuss how the world of politics goes on even though election season is over. This week the conversation was all about the Petraeus scandal and the fiscal cliff, plus what's next for the Republican Party.

Discuss this post

Coming off the election last week, I was under the assumption things might have quited down for a week or two...

Could I have been more wrong? lol

Full speed ahead, complete with fireworks & *confetti*

PS: I'm still waiting for my "free stuff"... anyone else?

Yeah Feisty, where do I go to receive my free Obama cellphone?

My free stuff arrived by mail... I got a coupon for a "learn to walk like Romney" class from a start-up called "mincing steps"... A trial sized can of facial spray-paint from "Hispanics "R" us"... Seven "never before used" opportunities to tell the truth... A Weather vane that only squeaks after it loses... A well-used camera that only works from angles that hide the small size of the crowd... Cookies from 7-Eleven... And a free copy of the Mormon "Jesus of the old West" bible.

At first I was appalled, then I wanted to send a thank-you note... I just can't decide which side of this gifting issue to come down on. Today that is.

Funkygirl... I'm sure you've been told better. So the blatant ignorance you display is willful. There is a name for those that cling to stupid things after they know better just to avoid the whole "learning process" thing... Republicans!!!

You're clingy!

Feisty did you get a chance to read the book by Robert Draper entitled. "Do Not Ask What Good We Do." Progressive Think Tanks are not shocked at all at what the GOP/Tea Beggers are still doing. This book is a must read. Did you read and post the other Two episodes of "Darth Rove." AKA. Karl Rove?

In a nut shell -- The Teapublicans should be embarrassed for being the Stupid Party, and the Dems should be ashamed of being such push-overs.

Does anyone think the Republicans would show an ounce of bipartisanship if they had won the election? Hell no! Look at the pundits on the news programs, also liberal pundits spinning how the president needs to move to the middle, and the conservative pundits bobbing their heads up and down with big smiles as they listen to each other say this crap.

NO. Let the Bush tax cuts expire and the cuts in defense spending go through before budging one damn inch! The president and Dems won the election -- He won the electoral college by a landslide and the popular vote very comfortably as well, and the Dems picked up seats.

I'm not saying to run over the rightwing completely, just nearly completely. The GOP are wrong and that's why they lost. The Republicans are the ones who need to come to the middle and a tad Left of it. Democrats finally stood up for Obamacare and ran on raising taxes and they won. Democrats have a lesson to learn too. Democrats need to act like winners, otherwise they may not win the next election.

Watching the President's first press conference of his second term, the phrase "only adult in the the room" kept circulating through my mind.

Damn, we picked a great President.

Now that is so very funny, and so very true hoodieboy! Progressive Think Tanks want all Americans to read Robert Draper's book entitled. "Do Not Ask What Good We Do." On the evening of Janruary 20, 2009. The Tea Beggers from the US Senate and the US House Of Representatives 'conspired' to destroy the people of the United States at all costs.

Of course the $$$ went to a most excellent cause! ☺

blamo, pay close attention .... The Middle East contains more than Palestine and Israel and Syria.

What would you have Obama do...hide under his desk and hope it will all blow over. Congress has the ball now and if they blow it they will be the ones responsible for the economy going over the cliff not the President.

It is part of his duty to go to other countries as good will tours. We want friends not enemies in the world and when the POTUS visits it goes a long way toward making friends and getting business coming our way. Are you opposed to increeasing business in the US?

See the post by Northstar DFL. I believe it says all you really need to know.

          Blamo,

          Fiscal Cliff looming:

It is all up to the Congress now, Obama has told them what he will veto and what he is open to in a lame duck bill.

          Middle East in flames:

Hardly, but if you think Israel and Syria are the only countries in the Middle East, get out the map and study it.

          Obama in Thailand:

It is a big world we live in.

Obama will be at a economic meeting with leaders from Japan, Korea, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia.

He will also visit Myamar(Burma) and has the well wishes even from Senator Mitch McConell.

Speaking of free stuff and the height of hypocrisy , MSNBC has a story today about an Alabama town that had it's entire business section (one square block) wiped off the face of the earth by a rouge tornado more than a year ago. These townsfolk apparently are still waiting for their free stuff from FEMA. Maybe FEMA has what they want but is waiting to see how the Alabama secession thing works out.

Seems a lot of folks can't stand the federal government but are not averse to standing in line for their free stuff while complaining about other people getting their free stuff. It all makes sense to someone, I'm sure.
