PS, I am still hearing crickets on the following questions posted on another thread:

I am still waiting for Obama's Benghazi critics to tell us what they should of done. Are they advocating that the US launch air strikes or send in ground forces in a city of 1 million people in a country we are not at war with? A country with a fledgling pro-US government and the citizens of Benghazi proved their pro-US leanings by demonstraing in the tens of thousands against the extremists and then by driving the extremists out of town. How would what they wanted to do would have made the situation any better?

They weren't. That myth was debunked weeks ago.

The Republican Party is grasping at straws. It is determined to find an avenue of attack against the President, and Benghazi is the only thing they can come up with. There is no indication that the Administration acted inappropriately or lied to the American public, but the Republicans must find something with which to bludgeon the President; otherwise, they will appear to be as irrelevant as they actually are.

What we have is a bunch of over-sized elephants in a small room, frenetically crashing around and bumping into one another, crazed with a need to prove their existence.

Here is the real question for obama.Why was existing security denied bullets for their guns?

The simple answer to that question is that we don't know who the American contingent was. They were apparently not marines and they were also apparently separate from the small contingent of Libyan locals hired by Blue Mountain. But we do know that they were armed and that they fired back. We also know that they apparently drove off the attackers, but not before the consulate was overrun.

Another good question is why were dems wanting money to hire different countries for security at our embassies when we already pay marines wages and they should be providing security anyway.

Yesterday afternoon, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told the media he demands additional information about the September attack in Benghazi. At the exact same time, McCain was skipping a classified intelligence briefing on the September attack in Benghazi.

So, what happened? Apparently, the Republican's office scheduled his press stunt at the wrong time, so McCain forgot to be where he was supposed to be.

Senator John McCain is demanding answers on the Benghazi attack, but his office tells ABC News he missed a classified briefing on the subject because of a "scheduling error."

The classified briefing was held on Wednesday before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee -- of which Senator McCain is a member -- and lasted three hours. It featured testimony by officials from the State Department, the Pentagon, the CIA and the National Counterterrorism Center.

During part of the briefing, McCain was holding a press conference demanding answers about the administration's handling of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya on Step. 11 that killed four Americans, including US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens.

So, let me get this straight. Yesterday, McCain said Susan Rice is "not very bright." This morning, McCain said the Obama administration is "incompetent." But given a chance to get answers about Benghazi, this towering intellect and model of competence forgot to show up for a briefing, and blamed a scheduling mishap?

McCain added today that there are additional hearings lined up on Benghazi, and he definitely plans to be there. What a relief.

As for McCain's calls for a special new committee to investigate the violence, many McCain allies -- Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), Sen. 1. Benghazi was a consultate and not an embassy. They are not the same thing.

2. What is the Marines' mission when it comes to diplomatic security? Just read their mission statement...

Each official is also designated a security detail from the State Department's own Security Force. Ambassador Stevens actually had a larger contingent than normal due to higher threat levels. The small British company was used at consulate security, because well.. it's just a consulate. The Marines are stationed at Embassies... such as the one in Tripoli.

Why do these doggish republicans believe this particular incident in Benghazi, killing four people is any more important than the thousands of soldiers killed in Iraq?

They, the republicans, keep harping on the ambassador, he's no different to me, than any of the thousands of Soldiers killed due to Bush, and Cheney's illegal invasion of Iraq on a LIE. Foreign Service Ambassadors usually do time in hostile environments, putting themselves in the line of fire just like soldiers, so to me, what happened on 09/11/12 is no different than a Humvee full of Infantry Soldiers on a patrol, rolling over a massive IED. They've always known they were out there, BUT, they were doing their job, and it happened. Quit putting so much emphasis on this ambassador, I'm sure he knew the game well.

What is more scandalous, Benghazi or having a soldier electrocuted while taking a shower, then have the same contractor refuse to correct the problem and allow more soldiers get electrocuted by their shoddy work, all in the name of the almighty dollar? When will they drag Dick Cheney to testify on this?

jim - Rice said "according to her information" given her early in the investigation because she knew the investigation was not nearly over - as any SANE individual knows that soon after an incident like Benghazi occurs. She was being hounded for information and could not give a definite answer as she didn't then have absolute details. But you know that - you're just being disgusting as usual. Any full investigation of something like this can take months. But, when you're hell bent on putting blame on the President - facts don't get in the way, do they? They never have for you and your GOP buddies!

There are a huge number of just plain wrong "facts" being posted on this Benghazi thing.

1) Benghazi was not a embassy --- it was a consulate, a much more accessible type of office, more low key. The embassy is in Tripoli. The big event was supposed to be the opening of a new public access cultural center at the consulate on Sept 13th. This is not the kind of place with a formal guard as an embassy would. This is a place intended to encourage local people to drop in if just out of curiosity.

2) The Ambassador was in Benghazi because he was very security conscious. There had been rumbles of trouble in Benghazi. Stevens hgad the idea of going to Benghazi a couple of days early. This would serve the security purpose of not disclosing his travel in advance. They were a little worried because the date of the opening had been widely publicized. Stevens also reasoned that if expected Sept 11th dermonstrations were tu turn ugly, he could direct the staff evacuation from there. If nothing happened, he would be there for the opening already.

3) Most people on the ground agree that al-Quaeda had been planning something big for a while. They were convinced that it would be at the opening of the cultural center and were preparing security for that. But the stupid video caused a bunch more reaction than even Libyans would have thought and the planned Sept 11th demonstrations dramatically increased in size. al-Queade seized on the moment and launched their attack via flash mob, using the crowd as a cover. There was just complete chaos all around.

4) The Ambassador and a security guard had retreated to the consulate safe room. But the Ambassador did not like sitting around and wanted to be directing his staff. So he and the guard tried to escape through a bathroom window. The guard made it but the Ambassador was overcome by the smoke and died. The killer was not the mortars or the RPGs but rather just plain old smoke from burning furniture in the consulate.

5) Despite the chaos there was one additional support team onsite, another on its way from Tripoli, and a drone overhead in less than 25 minutes after the first gunfire. By that time it was all over and the crowd was actually dispersing. There were no ignored calls for help and no indecision in the chain of command.

6) Once the decision was made, because of the death of the Ambassador, to put the FBI in charge, the investigation simply stopped for about 5-6 days while an FBI team was selected, assembled, and set up onsite. This is just how it is done when there is a death on Federal soil --- it is the FBI's job. But that caused a lag in information that was coming to the press because people were not allowed to tell their story until they had told it to the FBI first. Nobody was getting this information because there was no information to get at that point.

7) On the day after the attack, Obama gave a statement about it in the Rose Garden. In the speech he referred to it in one place as a "terror attack" and in another that it was partially in reaction to the stupid video. Just pointing to one statement or another and disregarding the rest is nonsense.

8) The State Department has requested for the 2011-2012 budget an additional $442 million than the previous year for embassy security improvements and upgrades. The GOP House instead gave them $300 million LESS than the previous year. The delta is $742 million dollars. Someone has to ask --- is that 3/4 of a billion dollar difference a contributing factor?

9) The "CIA Daily Brief [redacted]" on the day Amb. Rice made her statement almost exactly matched, word for word, her statement. So Amb. Rice was telling exactly what she was permitted by law to tell and only that. Sorry, but that's how intelligence works. When you make public statements like that, you give the most current information that can be declassified, and only that. I was an intelligence analyst for ten years and watched many situations "evolve" for weeks as more information and different viewpoints are included.

Republicans --- sorry your guy lost in a landslide --- what was the final score? 332 to 206???? The people have spoken. So don't let us stop you from the complete destruction of the GOP. Methinks that Eisenhower is spinning in his grave at the thought of you guys calling yourself Republicans.

The absolute worst kind of Americans in my opinion, to politicize and that is all this is the tragic death of our Ambassador and three Navy Seals, is probably the lowest thing I have seen in my years. The GOP is getting desperate and now they're trying for a repeat of the Clinton impeachment hearings, only substituting Obama and Benghazi for Clinton and Lewinsky. If they don't get their way in the general elections, then they'll try to bring government to a halt and get rid of the President. We all know this is where it's headed, right? We learned from the past, though, and we don't have to go along with it this time. The Repubs were rabid in the 1990s and they still are. Public opinion kept Obama in office this election and public opinion (contacting your repesentatives) can try to keep this situation sane until we can finish the job and vote out the rest of the crazies in two years.

Although I personally think Obama and others in his administration lied to minimize the political fallout just before the election, the election is over and we need to focus on moving the country forward and solving our economic issues. Let the standard panels do their investigations, and if someone doesn't like the results, then we can talk about a special prosecutor.

For now, I want DC focused on the fiscal cliff issues.

The group responsible for the Benghazi attack was not on anyone's watch list. They were new and trying to make a name for themselves in Libya. The unfortunate timing of the uproar about that stupid anti-Islamic video is a fact, and it certainly could have confused the assumptions and the intelligence data about what happened in Benghazi, who did it and why.

Obama said today he sent out Rice to give the best (wrong) information at the time, that the attack was related to the video.

Obama said during the 2nd debate that he claimed it was a terrorist act the day after the attacks, so it wasn't the video.

Rice went out 5 days after the attacks, 4 days after Obama claimed he said it was a terrorist act. These statements are not congruent.

Obama either lied during the debates that he called it a terrorist attack or he purposefully sent out Rice with bad information. Either way he lied to the American people.

As for the 9/11 "comparison".... Even Bill Clinton stated Saddam had WMDs prior to 98. The intelligence at the time stated Saddam was working towards more WMDs. Obama's intelligence THE NIGHT OF THE ATTACKS showed there was no protest. Bush/Condi worked off bad intelligence. Obama worked off of completely made up intelligence that was different from what was known the night of the attacks. Not even close to the same situation. Obama made up the facts he chose to put forth to the American People. Bush simply put forth faulty intelligence that even Clinton before him shared.

Based on the following few days I have decided to not respond to trolls or to those who only wish to taunt ridicule. blame and scream.

I will not jump to conclusions, like some presidential candidates, have done recently. I do not know if you are such a person so I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

You do know that daily briefings go with the president? Until otherwise found that Obama deliberately ignored direct messages like " Al Quaida intent on attacking within Libyan embassy" as his predecessors ignored, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Before 9/11 of this year there were warnings and statements issued to be on the alert. Precautions obviously were done, but they were not sufficient in Libya. Hopefully the armed reinforcements can bolster our defenses.

Yes Obama still has my vote. Although I wasn't enthused about our involvement in Libya; that is past. I am hopeful that our President does the right thing and continues to showcase a calculating, level headed approach to these new challenges. All Americans should do the same, we learned that after 9/11/01 Democrats and Republicans joined together in song to song lifting their voices to America the Beautiful. Eleven years later the only voices I hear are the angry jeers, taunts and insults from the right.

Rice nearly word for word told the world what was in the CIA briefing. This is the information that the CIA had. This is what they told world -- a bit prematurely yes, but they went with the information they were being given.

First of all, there were no Marines guards because it wasn't an embassy. The embassy is in Tripoli and there are Marines there. Second, the diplomatic security personal there at the time DID have ammunition and they DID fire at the attackers. The myth that they had no ammo was debunked the same day it came out. Why you and some others flat out refuse to admit that, I have no f*cking clue. But it sure as hell demonstrates that it's useless to believe a word that comes from your mouth.

Stevens knew better than most diplomats in the American Foreign Service the problems facing Libya after the fall of Colonel Qaddafi. Stevens knew the "hot-bed" he accepted in Libya, armed, or un-armed, that's a risk of the Foreign Service for ambassadors.

The drone didn't show up until two hours after the attacks began. A U.S. Security team was sent from from the Embassy to help, meanwhile Marines were directed to deploy from several other areas. How exactly did they do nothing?

I just have some questions.

First have you followed the time line and the public comments coming from the Whitehouse about Benghazi? if so do you see a pattern that could have mislead the American public to deduce that a little know video was the cause of the conflict? Even days after the event Susan Rice is still intimating the claim on national television. The President acts and with in a couple of days the person who made the video is arrested. What about the people who have now vanished from the scene that actually caused the deaths? NPR on the day of the attack confirmed this was a planned event with little or no public outcry on the video. Does that matter? If you are tasked with the security of the men and women under your command the the answer is yes. Was there a breakdown in getting resources to the scene? Again the answer seems to be yes. An AC-130 was less than one hour away and other resources were left to rent a plane for the ride to Benghazi and then got stuck at the airport trying to arrange rides to the scene. Does this really sound like a prepared response given the situation and the communications requesting more security in the previous days and weeks? I think the response shows some real problems what about you?

In the end are we going to ever be able to talk to each other and ask real questions to prevent more deaths or are we going to go for each others throat? If you think this episode is charged just wait until we fall over the fiscal cliff. People might take to the streets looking for some payback. What then? Are you going to rely on partisanship to have your back? I would prefer we handle this together as Americans not Republicans or Democrats or Independents or whatever. As it is right now we are fast becoming the Divided States of America. The biggest problem is a lack clear leadership in the country at all levels and all parties.

I watched all the coverage on Benghazi that was shown on CBS, NBC, etc.. From Susan Rice, to Hillary clinton to Obama speaking on it. I carefully watched what they all said. Including what Obama said in the Rose Garden and what he and Hillary both said when the bodies of 4 fallen Americans were returned to Andrews air force base. I also read from numerous sources what Mr. Woods had to say about his murdered son and exactly what he thought about the whole thing. I watched this all from news sources liberals can't claim are rethugilcan etc.. The PEOPLE of America were lied to about these attacks being the results of that ridiculous video, plain and simple. I think many people just want to know WHY lie??? WHY blame it on the video?? IT's become pretty clear that the government knew from day one that the video was not responsible and people want to know why the administration thinks the general public is supposed to buy into it? Obama and Rice repeated what the CIA told them. The CIA brief (or at least excerpts from it) are even available online. The CIA believed it was due to the video. Obama and Rice told everyone what the CIA told them.

So.. how exactly did Obama and Rice lie?

No one actually answer this question. They just keep shouting "LIE!" and "COVER UP!" despite the fact that we KNOW that the CIA blamed it on the video. For the last 4 years Republicans have failed to come up with a single plan that will work and time and time again have claimed they have the answer but won't tell us what it is. According to the 3 guards in a statement they gave before they were murdered, they were all seperated and not with the ambassador at the time of the attack. They confused the actual attack with being the demonstrators that had been demonstrating outside the embassy all day. Some of the demonstrators joined in the attack with the terrorists but only after the terrorists had breached the embassy.

The guards went back to find the ambassador but were not successful. They could not find him. These three guards were initially aided out of the embassy and murdered in a mortar attack later. Hours after the actual attack began.

The point being that yes, there was a demonstration outside the embassy that day so Ms. Rice never lied about that. John MCcain is nothing more than a traitor that turned on his country when he was captured. His patheticness should never have been eligible for a janitorial job within our government let alone running his know nothing mouth. The left doesn't seem to understand where the anti-Obama sentiment comes from regarding Benghazi. Sure there have been other attacks, and both parties and the citizenry rallied behind the sitting president.

The reason is simple. When Obama and his administration were continuously talking about "the youtube video", this inferred (to only half the country) that America invited the attack by its own actions.

Read: Something we did (the video) caused the attack.

Read: If there were no video, there would be no attack.

To me this is very sad because I am old enough to remember the Watergate hearings. That was done in a by partisan manner. Today it is on party lines. It is sad because the deliberate deaths of the Ambassador and the three others matters not. What matters today is loyalty to Obama even if he murders people. I am a FDR style Democrat and I have condemned both Republicans and Democrats when I felt that they have done wrong so I am not loyal to either party I go by how I see each situation. For example I will praise Obama for taxing the rich for the first time in many years. I disagree with Republicans on Fiscal matters and usually side with the Democrats. But on Benghazi I saw things as they unfolded and got information throughout the night and if I got good information with out CIA help than Obama should have gotten far better information than I. There is no way around the fact that the CIA officers on the ground E-mailed the President and other senior officials and were ignored for 8 hours. This is a Flat Fact because it is CIA standard procedure on all emergency situations of this kind. This is why on this issue I strongly condemn Obama because it is "open shut".
