GOP senators say they would try to block Rice nomination

If President Barack Obama taps U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to take over for Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, her nomination will be met with stiff resistance by some Republican senators.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., each pledged to filibuster Rice's prospective nomination as secretary of state due to her public explanations for the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Amid speculation that Obama might nominate Rice for the top diplomatic post to succeed Clinton, who has said she plans to step aide now that the president has won a second term, McCain said he would "do whatever to block the nomination that is within our power" at a press conference Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

Graham and McCain, joined by New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R), also called Wednesday for Congress to establish a temporary select committee to investigate the attacks in Libya.

But as Obama prepares for his first post-election news conference, at which he will likely be asked to address personnel issues in his administration, Republicans meant to send a strong pre-emptive warning.

"She is so disconnected from reality that I don’t trust her," Graham said.

Republicans are taking America back one step, so they can render themselves meaningless and America can then take two steps forward.

Confrontational TEA-Republican's just received a thrashing from Obama and company, and they maintain the same attitude now as before. It's high time they were taken down to our level.

I used to believe it was a privilege to live in a country where you could be free and vote for who represented you. I am starting to think it is nothing more than a burden. At least if we could have a reality show the people in congress could strip down to the diapers they surely wear and wrestle until someone wins. What a bunch of clowns.

Of course they will oppose Susan Rice...or anything else our uppity President proposes. All they are good at is saying no. They've had plenty ofo practice. They've accomplished nothing else, of course, but they are superb at saying no.

By nothing, you mean 1000 + bills that passed the HOR in the past two years? Is that nothing?

FAKE filibusters! Non-stop FAKE filibusters. They aren't doing any real filibusters. That is the problem that you keep overlooking, by calling them what they are not. You are falling into their rhetorical trap. Wake up!

After that incompetent collection of clowns, buffoons and thugs 43 had in his cabinet I would think the gop and other anti-American right-wing movements would want to keep quiet.

These fools still haven't figured out how to tie their shoes let along govern.

Idiots, it is better to sit with your hands in your laps than to fork up anything else this century. You guys have already blasted the record books for stoopid.

Rice is clearly unqualified. Look to the Benghazi reporting of the facts as a clear example of a liar.

A 1% margin falls way, way short of being a mandate; in point of fact it means every other person you meet didn't vote for you. In reality the people getting the free ride in the wagon squeaked by about 74K more votes and got the handout king back in office. The number of people pulling the wagon will be dropping off the traces in disgust and the wagon will soon be moving slow, slower and slowest. When enough people drop off the traces and the wagon stops moving times will get very interesting to put it mildly. Instead of "what's in your wallet?" the question will be "what's in your pantry?".

Humm, the Northern States with the more affluent middle classes voted for Obama (Romney WANTED their votes, we taxpayers though, can see a wolf in sheep's clothing). The Southern States where Welfare is the highest, unemployment is the highest, they highest number of underemployed, and they have the highest number of uninsured voted for Romney! The very people he said he won't represent voted for him! That IS stupidity on the part of voters!

By the way, my wallet and my pantry are filled!! If Republicans would stop blocking any change maybe the South would be more prosperous, like the WEST and the North!! Or if they just stop voting for Republicans!!

If you do what you have always done and expect to get different results, then you are the definition of stupid! If you want prosperity STOP voting for REPUBLICANS, they ONLY prosperity they believe in is propriety for the UBER RICH!

These two (actually 3) show what the GOP really stands for...

            1. They insist on a "special investigation" to get to the truth...

            2. Before the "special investigation" has even been approved they decide "Rice is Guilty"!

            This is your GOP!

This is such an easy problem to resolve. Ambassador Rice is a very intelligent woman who could be very helpful for our country and serve our president well. If the CIA briefings support her position that she declared after the attacks, then her appointment should be approved. If, on the other hand, the CIA briefings do not support the position that she declared then she will need to expain the difference. If President Obama asks for her appointment, then he needs to immediately publish all briefings, either publicly (if warranted by security issues) or to the House and Senate security conferences. I wish the US Congress and President would focus on issues we care about and not just distractions.

You have to prove that she knew what she was reporting was wrong before you can call her a LIAR.

Are you aware that FOX NEWS sued for the right to knowingly LIE to you, and you can't successfully sue them for knowingly LYING to you?

I can actually remember that back to 2004, the last time when I actually had respect for John McCain.

But that was then then and this is now.

Now, he is just an angry, old, white, male right-winger, a breed that fortunately is becoming extinct.

Well, is ANYONE surprised??? The Republicans have only two things in their arsenal: 1) "N" and 2) "O". Sound familiar??? They and their co-conspirators, the Tea Party obstructionists, may soon go out of "business". Who EVER took them seriously anyway, when they said they were in favor of BUSINESS???

Funny how McCain and Graham were okay with the other Rice -Condelissa, even though Condelissa originally told us that the attacks of 9/11/2001 came with "no warning what so ever" Then when it was found out that she had been told by the CIA that an attack from Bin Ladin was likely to occur soon, she backtracked and said, well yes, but no one conceived of them attacking us with airplanes. Then it was revealed that she was also told by the CIA that the attack would likely involve hijacking of airplanes. After all this was known, McCain and Graham still voted to confirm her as secretary of state. So if your name is Rice, you're a democrat and you make an honest mistake, then you are below contempt, but if your name is Rice and you are a Republican, then you can lie like a Romney and the republican senators will still vote for you.

Actually they don't have the votes. McCain isn't running again so he can continue to make a fool of himself. Too many senators are up in 2014 and they're not going to do anything foolish.
