GOP senators say they would try to block Rice nomination

If President Barack Obama taps U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to take over for Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, her nomination will be met with stiff resistance by some Republican senators.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., each pledged to filibuster Rice's prospective nomination as secretary of state due to her public explanations for the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Amid speculation that Obama might nominate Rice for the top diplomatic post to succeed Clinton, who has said she plans to step aide now that the president has won a second term, McCain said he would "do whatever to block the nomination that is within our power" at a press conference Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

Graham and McCain, joined by New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R), also called Wednesday for Congress to establish a temporary select committee to investigate the attacks in Libya.

But as Obama prepares for his first post-election news conference, at which he will likely be asked to address personnel issues in his administration, Republicans meant to send a strong pre-emptive warning.

"She is so disconnected from reality that I don’t trust her," Graham said.

Sour grapes huh? Well all I can say is pick a party that actually resembles the country. You know, a few more people of color, women, some gays, and maybe a few from the middle class, not just the 1%. If you did that then your party may still be around in 20-30 years. Hell who knows, maybe they'll kick out the bigots and racist to cling to relevancy. Where will you go if this happens?

Republicans aren't interested in working with this President. If he is successful then they are failures and that diminishes there chances even more in 2016.

John McCain, Lindsay Graham's Attacks on Susan Rice smacks of Racism to me. You notice the way John McCain uses every opportunity to say something Negative about the President's Intelligence.

WHY is it that they did not Say anything about Sec. Clinton's COMPETENT and Intelligence, She is the Direct Head of the Diplomatic Corp. Was she not responsible Directly for Bengazi?

Republicans like McCain, Graham and Daryl Issa are trying to make the African Americans, in my Opinion, in important rolls in the Obama Administration look as if None have the Competence to be in the Jobs they hold, especially, Eric Holder, and now Susan Rice.

Did Democrats Filibuster Condi Rice and she did not even know who or what AlQueda was! She was National Security Adviser to Bush!

The more I hear from John McCain, the more I believe his POW Days, are creeping in on his HEALTH, especially his mental state as a U. S. Senator to make such Ugly Statements as one of our Elder Statesmen. It is time for him to Quit. Lindsay Graham is just a "Me Too" LIGHTWEIGHT.

Here we have two U. S. Senators, who are SORE LOSERS of 2 Presidential Campaigns and CONTINUE TO ACT CHILDREN in a Playpen. We expect our U. S. Senators to show Leadership, trying to Damage Susan Rice's Career and Reputation. They are TOTAL OBSTRUCTIONISTS ON LIES AND DISOTRTIONS OF THE TRUTH to do whatever they can to hit back at the Obama Administration, even if the President came up with the Cure for Cancer.

What about the $300 MILLION THE House cut out of the Security Budget for Embassy's, and Sec. Clinton pleaded with them not to do it.

300 million is a drop in the bucket - how much do you think it costs the tax payer for Obama to fly around the Country on his campaign? I hope the do fillabuster her if she gets nominated. Why would we after her lies on every sunday morning show and the UN did she cave inot the Utube fairytale? 4 people died - Al Quada is stronger, more extreme, and in more countries in the middle east but Obama didn't want us to know that before he got his 2nd term. McCain has not distorted the truth - Obama has and Rice caved in so she lied trying to sell the story. Democrats or Republicans need to find somone that can be respected and trusted. Rice is not that person

        "... disconnected from reality ..."

Ironic that a Republican would use that phrase in reference to anybody else.

I'd recommend ignoring the right-wingers on this site. They're totally immersed in their own reality and incapable of learning. Far better to email Senators McCain and Graham and tell them directly your displeasure with their actions.

Even better, email Senator Reid and tell him to put the pain back into the filibuster. It's become a cheap way to gridlock congress and obstruct the legislation that's wanted and needed by most of the country. The Senate majority party has the power to change the filibuster rules at the beginning of sessions, i.e., this January. Make it cost something for Senators to filibuster, i.e., require them to hold the floor all hours of the day and night, thus exposing themselves to public scrutiny. We'd soon learn whether they had honest issues or not. That would quickly separate the wheat from the chaff.

Let's face it, very few of them REALLY believe in Obama's policies.....oh there are a select FEW - but the vast majority voted for him because "he is a person of color like me!" and because of all the promises that Obama made to them............free money, free healthcare, free grants, obamacare, your illegal kids will be citizens (wink wink), we will "get whitey" (i.e. taxes wink wink), etc etc.....and the list goes on..........

Governor Jindal being an opportunist here.........what an ass clown he turned out to be! He will NEVER be the Republican nominee..........so the democraps can stop salivating. That speculation ended today. Jindal.....what a political village idiot...trying to pander to lame democrap voters will never work Governor!

While reducing the size of government, government spending and the deficit are good goals they neither will solve our problems nor ever address what caused the problems, actually they are an intentional distraction from focusing on what did cause our problems. Our problems were not caused by government spending and some responsible government spending will actually help revive the economy (as some already has). What caused our problems was exploitation by the few, with excessive deregulation, lax oversight and weak enforcement encouraging run-away greed, gross dishonesty and self-indulgence, resulting in repeated crisis in savings-and-loans, banks, dot.coms, the mortgage, financial and investment industries, also with corporate corruption (like Enron) and costly industrywide failures - always with the few walking away with substantial gains and the country, the majority left with the significant costs and lost jobs.

Those circumstances were set-up by permissive politicians catering to "the money" and calling it "conservative", with the resulting problems growing as the politicians focus on looking to the 1% for their support, including to finance and help con the people and manipulate public opinion. Nothing they now seek even directly addresses the need for increased revenue as they just rationalize the economy will provide that, even as they advocate cutting taxes more. Their stubborn and self-serving focus continually pushes this country further into being a two-class society with the 1% feeding their insatiable "more" (never enough) appetite and competing in having it all, while the 99% simply loose more. The deception is disgusting and actually criminal in its irresponsibility and is literally a failure to honestly represent the people by refusing to offer bipartisanship or to work at cooperating and compromising to actually solve the problems. The aggressive efforts to distract from this reality, to find fault wherever they can and hoping to keep people focused there, is just more of the gross dishonesty and absolute failure to be responsible.

What Mitt Romney has said is ALL TRUE!

I love how the national media elites writhe and squirm in their seats at "the ugly truth" that befalls them........tisk tisk..........it's soooo hard on their little sensitive ears. They like to think that this is a perfect world and they want to continue the facade and the charade......that the election was somehow "fair"......and that they are the King-Makers and we will always "go along with their decision" but the people are far smarter than they think.

We must be talking about wo different Romneys. Wait, there were dozens of them over the course of the campaign. You'll need to be specific. Which one are we talking about?

            #185.1 - Thu Nov 15, 2012 3:38 PM EST

Like Benghazi? Obama does not have a clue what he is doing and hasn't since day 1. He has made a bigger mess and can't get 98% of his campaign "promises" done - like get out of Afghanistan, reduce debt, close guantanamo, etc etc

            Chip -

"Every other word out of Governor Romney's mouth was a lie."

So you're saying that every other word out of Governor Romney's mouth was the truth. Let me calculate...ok...that's 50% of the time he's telling the truth and 50% of the time he's lying. I'd say that telling the truth 50% of the time puts him in the top 1% of all the politicians.

And to think he's in the top 1% financially. Seems like he's a pretty good business man and more honest than 99% of the politicians.

That's rare praise indeed...and I thought you didn't like the guy...

We are not "moving forward" as the democraps think, but rather quite backward in many areas of American life.

Obama has polarized our country against each other. I get sick of the "racist" name if you don't go along with it. Why can it not be just about the person - their education - prior experience - and character. I have seen more racism from Obama and his administration than I have in the last 30 yrs combined.

Yes, I call that a Judas...........sorry that hurts your delicate and sensitive ears. Jindal talks a good game, but when the chips are down you don't want that guy in your foxhole. Chip, just keep drinking the Obama koolaid..........Obama has no interest in being your 2nd term President - he wants to be the dictator of this great country. Stupid dumbasses that voted for him too. I hope their jobless rate for all the blacks, hispanics, asians and dumb bitches now goes up to 50%. Serves them right.

By Jindal getting in front of the news cameras just to make himself look good, he committed this mortal sin.
