GOP senators say they would try to block Rice nomination

If President Barack Obama taps U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to take over for Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, her nomination will be met with stiff resistance by some Republican senators.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., each pledged to filibuster Rice's prospective nomination as secretary of state due to her public explanations for the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.

Amid speculation that Obama might nominate Rice for the top diplomatic post to succeed Clinton, who has said she plans to step aide now that the president has won a second term, McCain said he would "do whatever to block the nomination that is within our power" at a press conference Wednesday on Capitol Hill.

Graham and McCain, joined by New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R), also called Wednesday for Congress to establish a temporary select committee to investigate the attacks in Libya.

But as Obama prepares for his first post-election news conference, at which he will likely be asked to address personnel issues in his administration, Republicans meant to send a strong pre-emptive warning.

"She is so disconnected from reality that I don’t trust her," Graham said.

My son and I laugh every time we switch to Fox they are talking about Benghazi.....it's the new conspiracy agenda by repetitive broadcasts. Keep saying it and they will believe.

But wouldn't that make her a republican? It surely would.

It appears, both Senators John McCain & Lindsey Graham are infected with full blown.............."ROMNESIA"................

More proof the GOP lives in an alternate or parallel universe or different dimension than we earthlings, one they make up their own true lies as that movie was called. To have the conceit and arrogance to tell the president who just wooped their butts in fair and honest elections that repubs even tried to steal with voter suppression like they did in 2000 Bush over Gore, that he should or should not nominate anyone long before he has done it is the obvious sign of sickening old con' white man we know it all attitudes. Maybe these senators are ready to move to another country or that parallel universe and start their Jonestown II cults where their followers will drink their deadly brews.

Poor little Lindsey Graham and the deteriorating John McCain. How pathetic these two Senators

show America their true "colors". These two are no more interested in helping people.........

than in being bi-partisan. How obvious these two callous individuals show their disrespect for

our President......and anyone associated with the President. I hope President Obama selects

Susan Rice for the position. Let them seethe some more. They deserve it. Neither Senator

called out another Ms. Rice, by name of Condaleeza.....who was actually in the midst of Iranian

secret weaponry. What did these two little, pathetic men say back when? Absolutely nothing.

These two only act in terms of their 'party', not for the good of the country. These two truly show

how small they really are. They are obstructionists of the worst kind. People of Arizona and

South Carolina must be so proud of their Senators........two very angry white men!!!!!

It is time for these white boys to lose their toys and put them on an even landscape with

the rest of America. But, unfortunately............they are probably making plans to deposit

their greed money in the Cayman Islands or a Swiss bank.

So... The idiot republicans are going to continue the exact same tactics and strategy that got Obama re-elected, prevented the republicans from regaining control of the Senate, and lost house seats to ulta-liberals like Kyrsten Sinema? It's good to see that the republicans didn't learn a single thing this last election. Even in Ohio... what's the GOP's top priority? Banning birth control! Even now republicans still believe that women need 80 year old white republican men to tell them what to do with their vagina.

Can you republicans say... Hillary - 2016? How about re-elect Hillary - 2020? How about President Michelle Obama 2024? It would be good for you republicans who are incapable of learning anything to start practicing now.

We're going to block the whole leftist Sheik Hussein Ostumbler agenda. Susan Rice should change her last name to Baloney. We own the house and have 45 senators. Takes 41 to block judges and legislation. No card check. No illegal alien amnesty. No cap and trade. No leftist judges. Fiscal cliff? Bring it on. Eat @!$%#. Want anything done? Kiss our ass.

We're going to take the fake filibuster away from you on January 2nd. The 41 of you will have to get up on your feet and explain your position for as long as you can stand it and then we'll get to have a simple majority vote. No more fake filibusters and you'll have nothing left but the real filibuster, which is painful, and the secret hold, which Reid can decide to not keep your secret.

Thank you dear for continuing to spout all the garbage that you learned on fox news which in turn is what lost the Republicans this election. Keep up the good work, honey, you are continuing the junk and downright hypocrisy that will help the forward movement.

Your comment above and following are exactly what tells me you need to go to the outhouse because of a need for a backward movement.

If the right has to put up with 4 more years of Obama/Pelosi/Reid then the left can put up with 4 more years of "NO" !

If the country wanted change they would not have voted for 4 more years of the same

There for brief moment I held out hope....Bill Crystal and others were beginning to sound attached to the real world... and now, oops.

Romney comes out and re-doubles down stating that 47% wanting goodies is why he lost. He forgot to calculate in the higher percentage of Asian Americans he lost compared to the Latino vote. He's saying that Asian Americans are freebie hunters???? He just needs to fade away - he's further inflaming the very people that the Republicans are trying to bring back, you know, the majority, including Latino, Black, Native Americans, women, the young, the intellectuals, the middle class, etc.

Now, McCain and that weird one Graham are coming out and picking a secondary fight, against a qualified woman. Wow.

Every day new children of the people the Republicans are downgrading are coming of age to vote, every day those older than I (who form the voting base for the Republicans, and the biggest draw on the government goodie list) are dying. I am a 60+ year old Illinois born white woman, who demonstrated in Washington against the Vietnam War. I volunteered in my community and for youth services for years. Interestingly, I and my firends of the same vintage primarily voted for Obama. If McCain, Grahan, et. al. don't see the real world soon, they will be helping the Republicans lose the growing line of baby boomers who will kick their sorry asses to the curb in 2014 and 2016. I own my own business and am still working, down now to four days a week. I will be out supporting Democratic contenders who have a chance to unseat some of the Republican obstructionists. That includes some in Ohio who thought it intelligent to put abortion back on the docket this week.
