Pelosi to remain as Democratic leader

Updated 10:42 a.m. - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told fellow House Democrats today that she will run to keep her leadership position, likely extending her tenure as Democratic leader for another two years.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif. gestures during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2102, with newly elected Democratic House members.

"I have made a decision to submit my name to my colleagues to once again serve as the House Democratic leader," Pelosi said Wednesday at a press conference following a meeting with fellow Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

On the 10th anniversary of her election as Democratic leader, Pelosi said her colleagues had made their desire for her to remain as leader "very clear." There had been mounting speculation that the 72-year-old California Democrat might step aside and yield to younger figures in the party.

Pelosi served two terms as speaker of the House, the first woman to ever hold that role, from 2007-2011, during which time she oversaw House passage of President Barack Obama's landmark health reform law. She has also taken a special interest in advancing legislation intended to address the effects of climate change, prompting a vote on a "cap-and-trade" bill in 2009 which eventually stalled in the Senate.

Republicans seemed almost giddy about the announcement.

"There is no better person to preside over the most liberal House Democratic Caucus in history than the woman who is solely responsible for relegating it to a prolonged minority status," said Paul Lindsay, the communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

As part of her decision to stay aboard, Pelosi said that New York Rep. Steve Israel had agreed to serve a second term as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Israel helped Democrats pick up seats in the most recent election.

Pelosi's decision also means the top leadership in the House would presumably remain the same for the next two years:

-- John Boehner as speaker

-- Eric Cantor as majority leader

-- Pelosi as minority leader

-- Steny Hoyer as minority whip.

Who cares, I'd love to get one if I had the money, a little lift here and here, and here, over there, whoo hoo.

Just my opinion, but I think a change in leadership would have been helpful - The same old, same old approach wasn't very good for the past two years and I'm not sure it would be any better during the next two years.

Aw jeez, am I the only one who can see that Nancy Pelosi is only about Nancy PelosI? She is an egomaniacal, political hack who views every moment at a dias as a photo shoot. Wish the dems. would get someone in there who would lead the minority in working for the everyday, average hard working American.

What do you figure the Pope thinks about Nancy?

She claims to be a Catholic, but supports gay marriage and abortion.

I bet the Pope likes paying for contraception because of her and the President too.

I don't know why they don't toss her out.

How does her relationship with God work anyways? Does she play the boss?

    God doesn't listen to her.

Pelosi is about as far crazy left as you can get. Kick her to the curb and put a moderate Dem in her place but that is just wishful thinking.

TJ, Yea, cause there are no far, far Right Wing crazies in the GOP caucus, eh fella???

And I'd add that what constitutes "far crazy left" to you is anyone who does not question climate change, or that the earth is only 6,000 years old or that our country, the wealtiest in the world should see to it that we provide health care for all Americans, not merely those who possess enough wealth to pay the bloated medical costs.

BRUCE, Nancy is ranked as one of the very most successfull Speakers of modern times. The Right can mock her all they like but the fact is that she was vastly more effective than the current Weeper of the House is or will ever be. The lady got the job done.

Only the democrats are ignorant enough to have as one of their leaders a woman who makes a foolish statement that you can't know what is in the obamacare treachery until they pass the bill. I guess after they passed it, Pelosi took a crash course on reading so she would know what is in the bill

What a pathetic bunch of sheep. You follow leaders that betray their own country for power, and then you whine when things don't go your way. Then you decry the republicans and threaten them because you consider them traitors for following the constitution our forefathers built this nation on. The very same document you refuse to accept. So who is treasonous now.

We need to reach across the aisle! We need to compromise! We need to work together!

Everyone says those things and then what do we do? We reelect the very same people who got us into this mess. We don't want compromise or bipartisanship. We don't want to work together. It's time we were honest with one another and finally admit we want the other side to sit down, shut up, and stay out of the way. We want our side to win.

It's that attitude and the spiritual decay of this nation that is bringing her to her knees. I believe we are too far apart politically, socially, and religiously to ever come together again. The American people are going to have to experience major pain in order to shake them back to reality. For that reason I am preparing myself and my family for the worst. When the SHTF there will be no room for mercy.

That's really too bad. The dems had a big win and everyone is looking for conciliatory moves from both sides now. This is far from that. There should should now be more moderate people put in place on both sides. The silliness continues.......

He should be gone too. They need to clean house on BOTH sides of the aisle and get people in there who are actually concerned about moving the country forwarded, instead of playing "gotcha" politics.

Oh, how I'm loving all the ranting coming from the Right on here. The more you folks yell, the happier it makes me. And who better to piss you all off than Nancy Pelosi. Here's a hint for you people, Nancy really doesn't give a good, god damn what you all think. She is a super competent lady who runs a tight ship and gets the job done. If you doubt me, just take a look back at her record of success, particularly when she was Speak of the House. Unlike Boehnor who gets dragged around by the nose by the various factions in the GOP caucus, old Nancy tolerates none of that. The proof is in the pudding whether you care to acknowledge it or not.

Hey listen, had my party just taken a drubbing in a presidential election like your crowd just did, I'd be pretty touchy myself. Suck it up boys, only another 4 1/2 years of Obama you have to suffer through. Eat your hearts out fellas. LOL
