Subscribe to RSSUpdated 10:42 a.m. - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told fellow House Democrats today that she will run to keep her leadership position, likely extending her tenure as Democratic leader for another two years.

"I have made a decision to submit my name to my colleagues to once again serve as the House Democratic leader," Pelosi said Wednesday at a press conference following a meeting with fellow Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
On the 10th anniversary of her election as Democratic leader, Pelosi said her colleagues had made their desire for her to remain as leader "very clear." There had been mounting speculation that the 72-year-old California Democrat might step aside and yield to younger figures in the party.

Pelosi served two terms as speaker of the House, the first woman to ever hold that role, from 2007-2011, during which time she oversaw House passage of President Barack Obama's landmark health reform law. She has also taken a special interest in advancing legislation intended to address the effects of climate change, prompting a vote on a "cap-and-trade" bill in 2009 which eventually stalled in the Senate.
Republicans seemed almost giddy about the announcement.
"There is no better person to preside over the most liberal House Democratic Caucus in history than the woman who is solely responsible for relegating it to a prolonged minority status," said Paul Lindsay, the communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
As part of her decision to stay aboard, Pelosi said that New York Rep. Steve Israel had agreed to serve a second term as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Israel helped Democrats pick up seats in the most recent election.
Pelosi's decision also means the top leadership in the House would presumably remain the same for the next two years:
-- John Boehner as speaker
-- Eric Cantor as majority leader
-- Pelosi as minority leader
-- Steny Hoyer as minority whip.

Neither party seems to be getting the message! The "CON"gress i.e. both houses, is a pathetic partisan driven poor excuse for a legislative branch of government that is bought and paid for by layer after layer of special interest money. The very fact that neither party is willing to revamp its leadership shows that they are not the least interested in addressing the pressing problems that face the USA, but only desire to maintain their personal power. I am not an independent voter, but a disenfranchised voter. I have no party affiliation because none of them represent my overall viewpoint. Most important issues are multidimensional and cannot be genuinely addressed by a partisan driven two party system. The news that neither party is willing to change its leadership in either house is just an insult to the voters.

Too bad. Glad that Obama won, but we need new, effective leadership in both the House and Senate.
I just cannot believe this anymore - what is the matter with people? A sitting thief is in control of the Democratic House? Nancy Pelosi flew her spouse, children, and grand children across country in a private jet eating catered food and drinks at the expense of all taxpayers and her colleagues asked her to stay...?
I think they are all scum both parties. Congress has the lowest likability ratings in history and the same old tired leadership stays there. The extreme left and the extreme right are suicidal and I am sure both are happy with this decision. It is not working so using the same people is just stupid and yes the republicans stupidly think this is good for them so they can hate a woman and appeal to thier trailer trash base but it is not what is best politics it needs to be what is best for the country. The current leaders didn't get it done, we need new ones in both the senate and the house. Pelosi has become what Newt was in the 90s, what a selfish arrogant person all of them not thinking of the greater good just themselves.
Nancy Pelosi works hard, but, she represents the far left of the Democratic party and does not represent most of us Democrats. She needs to step aside for a more moderate and the party could then again gain the trust of those sitting on the fence and regain the majority of the House. Its divided because she has control.
No compromise with Pelosi and Reid. They are the type of people that I would not let ride in the back of my truck. They are both senile.
I think thats a wise choice. They need someone experienced in there, or the GOP would try to take advantage of anyone thats less on-to-them. Pelosi knows them, and knows what to expect from them. They wont pull any fast ones on her.
I hope they vote the rest of the obstructionist out in 2014. The special interests need to go. The US needs government that represents the majority, it hasnt had one in quiet a while, and it shows.
Pelosi is only 70 years old I thought she was 90. Women do not get plastic surgery unless it is absolutely necessary. You may think you are shaving a few years off but in 5 you will look like you are 20 years older.

California again trumped other states with a $617 billion debt. California’s debt is more than twice the size of New York‘s state debt, and New York has the second largest total debt burden in the nation. Texas, Illinois, and New Jersey rounded out the top five states with the most debt. Although New York and Texas moved up one and two spots, respectively, the states with the five largest debts remained unchanged from last year’s report.
Now New Hampshire has an all woman delegation. I am not against woman raising themselves up so their voices are heard but remember the old saying that men think with the wrong head sometimes. Well it works both ways sisters. You can't continue to be angry with your position and try to take it out on people by making foolish decisions. It is not patronizing to say that you sometimes will vote with your heart when it comes to spending policies but other times you will get angry and vote with that anger just to say you not going to put me down anymore. We need people to start using common sense and voting with logic and brains. Do you think the majority of blacks and Latinos voted with logic in this election or did they vote with color and rewards on their minds. The only way to fix this United States is to fix the deficit which is going to be hard on everyone. We are going to have to make sacrifices at all levels and we can't have a bunch of idiots in congress acting like they have just been given a credit card with an unlimited credit line.
You would think the Dems could come up with someone better than that idiot Pelosi. She is the poster child of what is wrong with the Democratic party.
