Pelosi to remain as Democratic leader

Updated 10:42 a.m. - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi told fellow House Democrats today that she will run to keep her leadership position, likely extending her tenure as Democratic leader for another two years.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of Calif. gestures during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2102, with newly elected Democratic House members.

"I have made a decision to submit my name to my colleagues to once again serve as the House Democratic leader," Pelosi said Wednesday at a press conference following a meeting with fellow Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

On the 10th anniversary of her election as Democratic leader, Pelosi said her colleagues had made their desire for her to remain as leader "very clear." There had been mounting speculation that the 72-year-old California Democrat might step aside and yield to younger figures in the party.

Pelosi served two terms as speaker of the House, the first woman to ever hold that role, from 2007-2011, during which time she oversaw House passage of President Barack Obama's landmark health reform law. She has also taken a special interest in advancing legislation intended to address the effects of climate change, prompting a vote on a "cap-and-trade" bill in 2009 which eventually stalled in the Senate.

Republicans seemed almost giddy about the announcement.

"There is no better person to preside over the most liberal House Democratic Caucus in history than the woman who is solely responsible for relegating it to a prolonged minority status," said Paul Lindsay, the communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

As part of her decision to stay aboard, Pelosi said that New York Rep. Steve Israel had agreed to serve a second term as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Israel helped Democrats pick up seats in the most recent election.

Pelosi's decision also means the top leadership in the House would presumably remain the same for the next two years:

-- John Boehner as speaker

-- Eric Cantor as majority leader

-- Pelosi as minority leader

-- Steny Hoyer as minority whip.

Now we will continue tol have Nancy (Wicked Witch of the West) Pelosi still involving herself in the crash of American politics and spreading her socialist ignorance for another 2 years. Remember, this is the woman that didn't read the Obamacare legislation that is well on its way to ruining our health care system and taxing the middle class to death while not providing health care and having bureaucrats make decisions for you regarding your health. Good luck with that! I'm from California and I can't be more embarrassed for this elitist being from here and helping to ruin our state as well. Jobs are fleeing this state like fleas off a dog and to solve our spending problem we, like the federal government, are raising taxes in a racist and discrimatory fashion. BTW, those that talk about the president having a recovery - good luck with that - he didn't do it in four years and he won't do it this time to - he doesn't know how to lead; just talk!

Pelosi is another politician who should be in a nursing home. Her ego would be bruised if she who told she was too old and worthless to be a leader anymore.

Republicans will gain popularity again when the voting public has to pay for the Democrat's ever expanding government.

The present spending is unsustainable even with the tax hikes.

With bigger government comes bigger bills and the Democrats are calling Republicans stupid for wanting smaller government yet Democrats can't pay for what they have now.

California is the poster child of the Federal government if voters keep electing politicians like Nancy Pelosi.

Bigger and bigger government only leads to bigger and bigger debt.

Voters will return to the Republican Party when the taxes and the debt gets bad enough and we aren't far from complete crisis now.

Big Mistake. As a liberal Democrat, I believe Nancy is much too much a lightning rod. We need a new leader like Steny Hoyer or some young female. Old politics of confrontation which Nancy embodies must come to an end.

Pelosi was speaker of the House during one of the most prolific and successful legislative periods of congress in this nation's history. The Boner has been speaker of the House during one of the least productive periods in this nation's history, doing even less than the "Do-nothing" Congress of 47-48. Nuff said.

That would be "the most prolific and successful legislative period" when she teamed up with Harry Reid as a congressional majority leaders and the economy of the country tanked and we plunged into a recession?

She should definately make sure that accomplishment is on her resume.

In the words of John Paul Jones, I repeat his famous words in these hours of political strife.

"I have not yet begun to fight"

Time will prove the Republican Party's position on higher taxes and bigger government to be correct.

Smaller government and spending cuts are in order. We are right!

"smaller government and spending cuts"? Which party started two unfunded wars, had unfunded mandates, thought tax cuts pay for themselves and deficits were fine (until Jan 2009), and want to control the uterus of every woman in America???

Best thing the Democrats can do for the Republicans is to keep Nancy Pelosi as their leader in the House. All Pelosi is good for is advertising for botox. As leader she stated: "We have to pass the bill to find out what's in it," really shows a lot of leadership, NOT.

Pelosi and all the Congressional members that have been in Washington for more than 16 years should just go away or be voted out. Professional politicians are what is wrong with this country.

I am a Democrat, and think they should put Nancy P. out to pasture. She is not helping the President. Her arrogance has only widened the gap between the aisles. She, Mitch McConnell, BooHoo Boehner, Harry Reid, and a whole slew of other elected Congressmen, and Senators, should be fired. The close minded, narrow view, partisan politices we have witnessed for almost 12 years now, are what makes Washington so dysfunction. Its not all on Obama or GW Bush. The Pols in the House and Senate have hurt the American people with thier childish behavior. If our children acted like these folks do, we'd punish them for sure. The selfish, one-sided politics put us where we are now, and the continued BS from both sides only keeps us in a hole. What a pitiful bunch of people we elected to make our goverment NOT work.

@Shawn- Well, part of what you say is correct-- But unfortunately Nancy has had to deal with McConnell, Lyin Ryan, Boner, and Newt- If she had had some cooperation other than Harry Reid- Maybe things would be different in the HOUSE-- Things need to change in the HOUSE and I feel your frustration--

Your right guys. We all know whats going on here. We can throw darts at each other, and have some fun.

But the bottom line is, our elected officals are stalemating the country. Democrats have been hijacked by the extreme left, and Republicans by the extreme right. Exit polls across the country were done, and 47% (strange percentage outcome??) of voters considered themselves "moderate" I believe that. The reason so many went more moderate-left, is because of the social issues (immigration, womens right to choose) Which was enough to re-elect a very vulnerable President. Both parties better re-evaluate thier priorities. Its a new world. Extremes from either side = WE ALL LOSE!!
