For all the talk about how Mitt Romney and the Republicans lost when it came to demographics, the turnout, and the tactics, the exit polls also show that they lost when it came to the issues.
For years, the GOP has branded itself as the party that supports low taxes (especially for the wealthy) and opposes abortion and gay marriage.
But according to the exit polls from last week’s presidential election, a combined 60% said that tax rates should increase either for everyone or for those making more than $250,000. Just 35% said the tax rates shouldn’t increase for anyone.
What’s more, 59% said that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.
And by a 49%-to-46% margin, voters said that their states should legally recognize same-sex marriage.
Even on comprehensive immigration reform -- a subject that some Republicans (like George W. Bush) once supported, but most no longer do -- 65% said most illegal immigrants should be offered a chance to apply for legal status. (And since the election, GOP senators like Lindsey Graham and John McCain are now signaling renewed support for comprehensive immigration reform.)
The one bright spot for Republicans on the issues: A majority of voters -- 51% -- indicated that the government is doing too many things better left to businesses and the individuals. By comparison, 43% said government should do more to solve problems.
That’s a reversal from 2008, when 51% said the government should do more and 43% said it is doing too much.

In what would be described as a tremendous defeat to the GNOP, the country continues to crush those sour grapes they enjoy sucking on!
So far, they have neither learned or accepted we are NO longer buying the crap they're peddling!
Hell, the newest idea from the GNOP "think tank" is to run Marco Rubio in 2016 just because he's "brown"...
Time for them to wake up and realize voters are much smarter than they give them credit for!
Until then, carry on wandering in the wilderness...
51% -- indicated that the government is doing too many things better left to businesses and the individuals. By comparison, 43% said government should do more to solve problems.
President Obama has done a lot of good in this country in just 4 years. And as an elected official, with his favorables quite high, I don't think this poll is too concerning.
Ronald Reagan was wrong when he said - government is the problem. Government's role was and is to make it a fairer playing field for all, regardless of color of skin, religion, income or status.
That's what our government is attempting to do. It's why Elizabeth Warren, among others, was elected.
Last week (post-election) voters in 15 states file petitions to secede from the union.
The two most popular petitions, Texas and Louisiana, have both drawn more than 10,000 signatures each as of Monday morning. The Texas petition needs only 7,000 more signatures to trigger an official White House response.
http://www.politico.com/politico44/2012/11/secession-petitions-flood-white-house-website-149291.html?hp=l4
They were dead wrong on all issues because they followed and never cared to ask or seek answers on their own.
These people were lied to and made hate by Fox-news, Rush and the rest entertainment/bussiness crew for their own pocket gains. They don't debate issues rather they shout and try to be the loudest thinking that's an idea.
Their debate is always "them against us" period.
Sure, privatize (for profit) Schools, Social Security, MEDICARE......etc....
Isn't that an issue that the GOP/TP pushed and lost on.
The real reason Mitt Romney lost was not the issues, it was that he JUST DID NOT GET IT and came across as some social elitist. He was the absolute worst presidential candidate in my life time. He flipped on the issues, now he can flip burgers at McDonald's.
Best Regards, Roger
Dennis, I wish they'd go, and take the rest of the South with them. We in the Blue States are tired of supporting them, then having to hear about the "takers" that support the President. Geez, these people need to look in the mirror some day and recognize that they are the "takers".
This article is almost as stupid as Elizabeth Warren. I am sorry I even read it.
Let's raise everyones taxes.
"Republicans were crushed.."
50.5% to 49.5%??? That is crushed? Take away all the illegal votes, then the Republicans won handily among legitimate US citizens. Only on NBC would you see this headline.
Secede eh.... LOLOLOL! Most of those states get more federal money than they pay, so maybe that's not a bad idea for the rest of us....
1 out of every 34 workers in the US Labor force gets their paycheck directly from the US Treasury. A pretty clear sign they are doing too much or not doing it efficient enough.

Let them. I can only imagine how those states will do without the blue states to subsidize them.
When life deals you sour grapes, turn them into vinegar.
Crazy Steve - exactly what I was thinking! We'd be way better off if they'd just go!
First a thanks to my good friend Max with whom I served in Vietnam and didn't make it back. My question would be what issues? The GOP started their election campaign by attacking the President in an ad that was a complete lie and never really changed that tactic. Their only issue was how awful Obama was. From when that first fraudulent ad aired (I think it was in January) they didn't really talk honestly about any issues.
...and you have proof of all of these "illegal votes", yes?
As stupid as a woman with endless educational credentials and a J.D?
Lets see your list of accomplishments?
bloggit - you are one seriously demented individual. President Obama won among legitimate voters in this country. Repubicans lost because, like you, they can't get their heads out of the sand (I tried to keep it nice). Your stupidity is only overshadowed by your total ignorance!
RTFS,
You might be surprised to learn the following:
What does Texas alone have to do to survive as a Republic?
1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas, so they control the space industry.
2. Texas refines over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.
3. They have over 65% of the Defense Industry.
4. Oil - they can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years.
5. Natural Gas - They have all they need.
6. Computer Industry - They currently lead the nation in producing computer chips & communications: Small places like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Semiconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, Etc, Etc. The list goes on & on.
7. Health Centers - They have the largest research centers for Cancer research, the best burn centers & the top trauma units in the world & other large health planning centers.
8. They have enough colleges to keep us going: UT Texas, A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT & Texas Women's University.
9. They have a ready supply of workers. (Just open the border when they need some)
10. They have control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, they have the Texas National Guard & the Texas Air National Guard. They don't have an army but since everybody down there has at least six rifles & a pile of ammo, they can raise an army in 24 hours if they need it. If the situation really gets bad, they can always call Department of Public Safety & ask them to send over a couple of Texas Rangers.
12. They are totally self sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs & several types of grain, fruit & vegetables & lets not forget seafood from the gulf. & everybody down there knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food.
This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that they need & don't have!
MANDATE!!!
From the article above:
Basically, Republicans got crushed on EVERYTHING!!!
“Yes, Virginia, this was a MANDATE!!!”
Salud
Dandy416
As stupid as a woman with endless educational credentials and a J.D?
Lets see your list of accomplishments?
Dandy416 - These morons have no cure. All we need to do is VOTE on election days so they don't gain power.
Population of Texas in 2011: 25,674,681
Of that base, 10,000 signed the petition. Better check those names for Mickey Mouse and Davy Crockett.
Maybe .038 percent of the population is a Mandate in Texas...?
I think more people have lunch at the Iron Skillet every day than this....
First Read says: "Republicans got crushed on the issues, too."
What about lying, FR? Don't you think that not a few people simply got fed up with Mitt's lies and that perhaps that was the final straw for them?
@FXSTC
You dont think NASA and any defense contracts would be pulled from your little humble chunk of clay the moment you were no longer a state?
Less than 1 year from separation and you would belong to Mexico. Cartel > Texas National Guard
Jimm##### posts.....
Wait, wait........I gotta get to either Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, Randolph AFB, etc...or any of the other 15 or so military installations statewide.....
Texas, poor Texans..........Texans against the feds!....nice!
Do you have to be a resident of those states to sign the petitions? Just asking....
Methinks the people of Oregon, New York, and New Jersey are filing for different reasons than the others. They are most likely tired of supporting the worthless welfare queens in the other states.
I distinctly remember telling more than a few folk on Newsvine that their draconian treatment of Illegals was going to be their undoing. But no, all they wanted is revenge for a problem that was created for them.
See, you guys wouldn't get it even if someone beat you over the head with it.
You lost BECAUSE of your attitudes and how you manifested them as HATE.
A bunch of xenophobic hypocrites. They won't lean and the GOP will die out because of it.
Bloggit, I realize that Republicans aren't very good at math but ... Really, Dude.
Barack Obama received 62,156,980 votes, which was 51% of the vote while Romney received
58,805,060 votes, which was 48% of the vote. Now I know that you and the other Republicans think that the votes of blacks, Latinos, single women and us other "not-real Americans" shouldn't count. Unfortunately for you, they do.
When the Confederate States were allowed back in the union it was made clear that secession was no longer an option for any state. Imagine a hurricane like Katrina or Sandy hitting the gulf coast devastating both Texas and Louisiana. If they have left the union who is going to help them? Fema? They'll look like Bangladesh after a typhoon.
Like little children who don't get their way they are going to go off and pout. You don't play by my rules I'll take my ball and go home so there!
Without states like New York, California, Illinois and others states like Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama would be nothing but infested swamps and slums. Biting the hand that feeds you isn't usually a good idea. Somehow we'll have to bring them kicking and screaming into the 21st Century just as we had to bring them kicking and screaming into the 20th Century back in the 2nd half of that Century.
Where are all the usual suspects ie: conservative posters? You know No Joe, Spankster, Selfish Bill, WCA, Caesar Augustus, et al? I miss them. I really do. First read is now a left wing echo chamber without them. Bring em back please!
Comon now Feisty and Bev admit it, You miss them.
bloggit, Romney only got 47.8% of the popular vote, not 49.5% as you suggested. But more importantly, he only got 38.3% of the electoral college vs. Obama's 61.7% - and that is crushing.
So FXSTC. Thanks for pointing out that Texas has:
It's good to hear that, however, what will they do when Venezuela or China or Russia or Mexico decides to invade them for their oil, gas, space knowledge (If the USA were to let them keep the IP which the Federal Government paid for)?
I know. Maybe they could ask for assistance from the United Nations!
And who funds NASA? The State of Texas, or the Federal Government? Who funds those defense firms? The State of Texas, or the Federal Government? They might make a lot of computers and other goods, but they don't have the market to support the production on their own! Without the rest of us, Texas would quickly be taken back by Mexico!
The Repugs, they just don't get it do they.
Congratulations Mr. President
Hillary in 2016.
I haven't applied for my fake Indian designation yet. When I do I'll show it here.
Texas stole many companies developed in California, by offering them tax incentives to move to the Lone Star State. If Texas were a separate nation they would be subject to trade laws that would erase their advantage.
Then there is the drought...
Dennis, Columbus, Ohio-
I think Florida has already seceded from reality.
Salud
FXSTC - let's see - NASA would just go back to Florida. We have other gas in the country and can develop green energy a little faster; no defense dollars to Texas - we'll put them elsewhere; no funding for the border patrol - you guys can do it; the intelligent people will leave since you'll really have nothing to offer. Yep - we can do without Texas but can Texas do without the rest of the country?
Let Texas go! Let Rick Parry be king. See ya!
Has anyone noticed Mitt Romney's (peculiar) gait?
Here follows several videos where this can be seen. At about 3 minutes into the first video, Romney can be seen preparing to descend a short flight of stairs. Notice his short steps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGTi4-ysJS8
The remaining 3 videos are of the Presidential debates. Romney's shuffling gait is best seen in contrast to President Obama's fluid stride.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYKKsRxhcro
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEpCrcMF5Ps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwzXxkMDvL8&feature=relmfu
In all 3 of these debate videos, Romney's entrance to the stage demonstrates an abbreviated stride (aka shuffling gait) that is sometimes associated with Parkinson's disease.
Here's a Romney video from 2002. His gait here seems more fluid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhkJawWsaMU
Here's a video of a Parkinson's patient whose walk is illustrative of classic Parkinson's shuffling gait.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylHZWO17W70
Let's hope Romney's gait is merely peculiar and not symptomatic.
wow I haven't applied for my fake Indian designation yet.
Go to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota and ask someone there where you can get one. Just see what kind of answer you get. Let us know what they tell you!
Ian Emdee - I don't like Romney but I hope he is not ill. I wouldn't wish Parkinson's on anyone - or any other disease.
I'm not sure if they got 'crushed' but it definitely was not a hug. More like a kick in the groin.
Funny thing, I used to live in the Palm Springs area where there are a lot of Canadian tourists during the winter. During the Quebec secession election that they had, one comment from a non-Quebecois Canadian stood out. His question was, should the rest of Canada have an election to see if we want to keep them. If Texas pushes this secession crap, I think the rest of us should have a say in whether they should be allowed to stay in the US. I say let them go and make them take Oklahoma with them!
It is a little more fun with them isn't it. I'll try not to rub to much salt into the open wound if they should slink back in here. I'm sure Sirie and Joe from Albany would like some company too.
Texas has the 15th largest economy in the WORLD folks. It is more than prepared to exist alone. NASA is being continuously downsized and defunded federally, so maybe they would "defect" to a place that welcomes them and sees and appreciates the value of what they do? Don't be so cavalier about the possibility of TX asking to secede-- it's been talked about among Texans for a few decades but it never got bad enough to really do anything about until now when constitutional rights and freedoms are being whittled away by an ever growing government and a president that invokes executive orders at whim while congress is still in session. I'd move back to TX in a heartbeat if they were to secede. It's be great to be back where people are accountable, responsible, caring, and hard working.
And it would serve those brain dead Texans right. Louisiana is already broke and suffering why would they want to leave?
Sorry, Torpedo, but no. While I would miss posters like Alan (to whom I apologize, I have forgotten your whole moniker) and Frank "Grimey" Grimes, THOUGHTFUL conservatives into issues and not personalities, the ones you mention are merely sound and fury. They brought little discourse to the board, and I generally ignored them.
But, they will be back, I fear, derailing decent posts again.
The Republican Party can posture all it wants to, but the mandate is with the President. They would do well to dump the social conservatives and be what they used to be, fiscal conservatives with IDEAS! Otherwise, they will continue to struggle everywhere but the south.
His walk comes from the stick stuck where the sun don't shine.
SeekingSanity......you said:
Agreed. This is certainly not a wish. It is merely an observation.
Torp, sorry!
Ditto what NDD said! I have the majority of them on ignore for a reason.
None of them added anything other then to derail & distract...
The White House might have some policy about responding to petitions, but there is no legal requirement that it respond to any petition. In this case, it should ignore the whole thing. It doesn't matter how many sign, the states aren't going anywhere. Of course, the citizens of Texas may not know that since the Texas school board probably removed the Civil War from the curriculum.
Cracks me up all those red state righties that talk about how they are so much more patriotic than the rest of us threaten to secede when they lose an election.
Republicans be patient. The economy will crash and when people have to face real hardship, they will change their minds and realize a strong economy and a good paying job is far more important then social issues.
Those of you wanting to see Texas secede from the union. If that does happen it will be a domino effect. What does blue states have to offer red states? Nothing. What does red states have that blue states want. Oil and food. Red states are holding the cards. Get used to it.
elle199 - believe me we could live without Texas much faster than Texas could live without the rest of the country.
And cut the Executive Order crap. Bush used it 291 times - Obama has used it 138. Did you scream and whine when Bush used it????
Please go back to Texas. I cannot imagine another state that would want a person like you! I am surrounded by hard working, caring, intelligent people. The dumbest and most hate-filled people I ever met were in Texas when I went there on business!
just24 -- Agreed. And they were dead wrong on issues because they only talk to one another. The information they talk to one another about originates from idiots like Rush Limbaugh or Fox and Friends, and they are anti-intellectualism to the point they are lacking all Rule of Reason and facts.
And then this is the likewise shallow response:
Rightwingers -- Get over yourselves and your obsession with making all abortion illegal, "personhood" amendments, etc. -- Especially you white Christian males. Women are tired of your misogyny whether equal pay or discriminatory health insurance or an employer determining birth control or what have you.
Come on, what do you really expect? Do you really think the rest of the nation is right of center on this crap? I won't get into other bigotry that is the Teapublican Party and Flat Earth Society, but you need to get into the 21st century!
One might almost take pity on Mitt Romney when seeing him drive away after his concession speech. He was more than shell shocked, he was in a fetal position. Why? Because the damn right wing got him to believe his own lies. And that goes for Karl Rove too.
But don't think for a minute that any lesson has been learned. Rove, et al are no doubt already back at it with their un-patriotic "strategery." Stay vigilant my fellow Americans, and get out the vote in the mid-terms in 2014...
Never occurs to Romney or republicans, even the media, that a party and candidates which spent 71% of the time telling LIES might turn off voters because they recognized liars. Romney lied from his first campaign ad to his last--voters saw that. I heard many republicans since election night's shallacking of the GnOP claim it is their tone they need to change; soften their antagonism aimed at minorities and women--how about the truth, how about some honesty. It isn't TONE that is the problem, it is their outdated, proven policy failures of trickle down, their wanting to take the country back (from where and to where) that caused them to lose. No one knew who Mitt Romney really was let alone did they know what his policies would really be or what he stood for.
Latinos do not just vote on immigration reform, they vote on women's rights which are economic issues, they vote on equal and fair pay for equal work, they vote for good jobs and access to health care. Blacks did not just vote for President Obama because he is half black, they voted for him because he is a democrat, because he wants every person to have a fair shot at the American dream and because democrats get that. The same can be said for every person, regardless of skin color. All regular, middle and loan income wage earners want is a fair shot regardless of the color of their skin. How pathetic that GOPers think running Marco Rubio or putting him in front more often is all they need to do to win the Hispanic vote.
This is a total poof piece about crap that really doesn't matter. Where's the questions about jobs, the economy, foreign relations?
1. Taxes : Raise the taxes on the rich all you want. All you will accomplish is putting a non-visible dent in the deficit, driving rich people out of the country, and killing jobs.
2. Abortion : The majority of the people in this country are still pro-life. Having a baby is a privilege, and a responsibility. Much like most liberal thoughts, abortion is a way to negate responsibility.
3. Gay marriage : Who really f'ing cares. I'm not gay, I don't hate gays, I have gay friends. That is their deal that they have to deal with in whatever belief they have (or not if no belief). I honestly don't care if they get married or not, just get it dealt with and shut the @!$%# up about it.
4. Illegals : There is already a way to citizenship for them, they just chose not to take it. You all might want to help the poor, downtrodden, and "they're just here for work" mentality. But have you ever put a single friggen thought into what it would do to our non-existent budget if we put ~20 million (have seen a range from 11 mil to 30 mil, so picking the median) immigrants that are lucky to have even a middle school education on our welfare system? Because THAT is what will happen. And don't give me the same old bs about "they pay taxes". Giving the citizenship will only allow ALL of them (some already do this) to claim to the IRS and receive back more than they put in. Amnesty is NOT good for the country as a whole. A path to citizenship already exists, so we don't need that. What IS needed is an immigration reform strictly for the farming community so that they can get the seasonal labor they need. Construction, painters, plumbers, landscapers, these are all jobs that citizens can and will do without the cheap labor competition. But neither side is willing to do the right thing. The right wants ALL cheap labor, and the left wants ALL the votes. Neither is good for the country.
So my challenge to nbc, get the hell off this marital affair thing, it's nothing but a distraction. How about REAL articles about the economy, about the new EPA mandates coming and how they will affect us, about how ACA is causing layoffs and maybe go over what else it's going to cost the middle class. How about some real articles instead of writing poof pieces to bloat your leftist ego even more.
The Republicans have to be the worst politicians in history. They don't seem to understand that if you don't change your values and principles with the times, you will be left in the political dust. The kind of dust you find in an abandoned old house.
First thing they have to do is severe themselves from the religious right.
Anyone want to take bets on how many decades that will take?
It may never happen. Perhaps some new, viable third party will rise and the GOP will be something in history books.
It's TOO LATE for Texas to secede.
The demographic trajectory in Texas is such that the Hispanic will exceed that of European descended whites within the next 10 to 20 years.

You angry xenophobic white folks must now move to Alaska.
Ian...just curious. Are you aware the election is over and Obama won?
I thought Obama ran on "Forward", not harping on the past...history...which is what Romney is now.
Kevin T- only in your small mind could red states survive without blue and blue not survive. Let's see - many blue states have oil and grow food - in fact a large number of them.
The "I'll take my ball and go home" stupidity is part of what is wrong with the Republican party. You aren't willing to work for the good of the country- it's your way or not at all. A country survives and prospers when there is compromise - as we have seen in the past. But, when Obama was elected the GOP chose to throw any idea of working together out the window. It is their way or not at all.
Alex - I know no one who is pro-abortion but many of us are pro-choice. If your choice is to never consider terminating a pregnancy - that is your right - but don't try to tell everyone else what they have to do.
Your ignorance about raising taxes shows you don't know history at all. Taxes were higher under Clinton and there were many more jobs. When Bush gave his tax cuts - we started losing jobs quickly. There is NO correlation between high taxes and job loss. NONE!
The path for illegals that Obama is proposing was first proposed by Bush/McCain and the largest amnesty program for illegals was under your dear Reagan. Did you scream and yell then????
The Republican party and those who support it have shown their ignorance.
Now I just read the United States is producing more oil than Saudi Arabia. What was Romney feeding those republicans?
The Republicans were crushed on the issues? This doesn't surprise most of us.
What it does tell us is that there was a lack of coverage of the REAL issues and that pre-polling missed the mark totally. Sheesh!
In what would be described as a tremendous defeat to the GNOP, the country continues to crush those sour grapes they enjoy sucking on!
What a racist comment! Being a moderator and employee for newsvine, you should be above the race card, Fiesty. But, as they say when you have nothing intelligible to add to an argument JUST THROW THE RACE CARD.
hs321.......you said:
Congratulations ! You appear to have accepted what we (democrats) have known for quite some time. It is better late than never.
But, it's not only the religious right middle class conservatives need to reconsider. It's the super wealthy fascists that you should join with democrats to oppose. They (the plutocrats) have (successfully) divided to conquer us (middle class) for the past several decades. They are the real danger.
Now, although the ELECTION is over and Obama DID WIN, our economic and other serious issues (which republicans obstructed for 4 years) still lay before us. It is not gloating to remind the GOPeaParty that they have been rebuked. Join with democrats to bring fairness back to our nation. Support our positions on taxes, infrastructure reinvestment, green energy, immigration reform, and our environment. You won't be sorry.
If the red states seceded, they would have to pay their own way rather then leech off the blue states. Just think, tax dollars paid in by the blue states would actually stay in the blue states and benefit the blue states for once! Then we could afford to triple the budget of the Border Patrol to keep those illegal aliens from Texas out!
It is a simple matter of math. If you allow your party to move further away from the center, then you are mathematically alienating larger and larger portions of the electorate; both by demographic and on the issues. Those of you commenting on here that are undeniably on the far right: you do NOT represent the majority opinion in the United States. Period. And if you want to argue about that, look at the election results and then comment about it.
KevinT- you fail to mention that President Obama has helped us begin recovering from the worst recession since the Great Depresession - while the GOP sat on their hands wanting him to fail.

SeekingSanity,
I know no one who is pro-abortion but many of us are pro-choice. If your choice is to never consider terminating a pregnancy - that is your right - but don't try to tell everyone else what they have to do.
That all depends on where you live. Where I live in Oregon the high majority of us are pro-life. There are very rare exceptions that I would accept abortion which would include; danger to the mother's life, the baby has severe (as in probably won't live) medical issues, incest, and possibly rape. But just allowing a free for all on abortion is nothing short of going down a street with a machine gun and wasting people. (Also, your savior in chief supports infanticide in case you haven't checked his past votes, nothing like murdering a few babies to warm the soul)
Your ignorance about raising taxes shows you don't know history at all. Taxes were higher under Clinton and there were many more jobs. When Bush gave his tax cuts - we started losing jobs quickly. There is NO correlation between high taxes and job loss. NONE!
My ignorance? Your ignorance is treating the rich like the evil red headed step child and putting all of the blame on them. Before you start popping out your excuses and blabbering, all I see from you guys is tax the rich, tax the rich, those evil greedy people. I have no problem with raising taxes a bit on the rich, but not nearly to the extent as you 'ignorant' liberals. But that's only because I see that our fiscal issues are far more reaching than those evil rich people. God DAMN them for being successful! (sorry, the liberal in me came out for a sec).
The path for illegals that Obama is proposing was first proposed by Bush/McCain and the largest amnesty program for illegals was under your dear Reagan. Did you scream and yell then????
My dear Reagan? I guess you liberals now are reading brains? I'm so happy for you that you know EXACTLY what I'm thinking. But since you brought it up... why don't you go past your liberal MSM, break off the tit and go do some research on your own. Tell us EXACTLY what the agreement was between reagan and the democrats on that amnesty. And what EXACTLY did reagan say, and what EXACTLY have none of the congresses or administrations (both left and right) done to stay in agreement with the amnesty? Be a good little lib, you can do the research and run google, I have faith in you! (Unlike the DOE, you'll need to actually go research this on your own instead of having talking points spoon fed to you)
Oh, I voted for bush his first term, I voted for obama his first term. I didn't vote for EITHER their second term for the same reason. They both sucked in the first term. (shocking I know, a white man NOT voting for a white president!!!!! God, I must suck since I'm not a very good non-liberal)
Edit to #1.57; second to last sentence, that should be "all regular, middle and lower income wage earners..."
Alex, why is it so many republican legislators oppose birth control? The best way to reduce abortion is to provide sex education beyond abstinance only and to make contraception easily accessible and affordable. You are entitled to your view, you are not entitled to force any woman to adhere to it.

We'll "shut the @!$%# up about it" when we are guaranteed the right to marry (should we desire to do so). Looking at your statement, I'm sure those gay friends of yours don't necessarily count you as a real friend of theirs. If you really valued them as friends, you would want to see them guaranteed the same rights that you have. What I see is that you make this about yourself, what you want to hear and what you don't care to hear, which is pretty typical GOP/Tea-Bagger/Evangelical viewpoint.
Ian, as stated before, I'm an Independent. I've seen this day coming since Clinton ran for his second term. I distinctly remember Bush I on stage spouting off language to appease the hard-core religious right. Neither his voice nor his body and facial expressions appeared to say he believed one word of what he was saying.
Can you believe the Republicans still don't get it?
I strongly disagree with this statement. Please tell me where in the Constitution that it says the government's duty is to provide fairness to all? That sounds more like the Communist Manifesto.
Agreed.
The social contract has been forgotten by the right-wing, along with patriotism that includes paying one's taxes, making them/red states the takers not the makers. But I am optimistic that Reagan's supply-side voodoo economics will soon be completely dead.
When congress begins the heavy lift of tax reform and balancing the budget, trust funds like Social Security should be off the table -- certainly no more raising the age, which is already age 67 for me. Once again, just increase the cap on FICA withholding and means test or what have you, but don't even mention cuts in regard to SS.
Medicare/Medicaid is another matter, but this could be improved greatly with single-payer. We just need to continue pushing the greedy 1% and their ignorant supporters away from privatization of everything -- It's not just self-serving for plutocrats, but really stupid for everyone.
AlexM - you have no argument to the facts I stated about taxesso you just put me down for "hating the succesful." Sorry ignorant Alex - I am considered one of the successful- as are many I know. And, we all voted Obama - your ignorance is showing. The only way to fix our economic problems is with a tax increase and working to control spending by making cuts. But to cut programs for those who have been hardest hit by the recession hardly seems Christian - does it?
You can't argue facts - such as employment being higher when taxes were higher so you put me down? That's the Republican way isn't it? No argument so you just name call.
You have a problem with Reagan's amnesty program - you look it up!
Your ignorance is showing through your hatred of everyone not just like you!
SeekingSanity.....
It is too generous to say the GOPeaParty "sat on their hands". They ACTIVELY attempted to sabotage our economy in hope that President Obama would be blamed.
Such behavior is unprecedented. Thank God they failed. It would have been a tragedy and a travesty if President Obama was denied the credit for the inevitable strong recovery which his policies will produce.
Good grief people. Texas is not going to even ask to leave the union. Just because 10,000 or so people sign a petition means nothing. I'm quite sure you could find 10,000 or so in every state that would sign the same petition.
And I live in Texas. So cut the crap. We know we're in this together. Stop painting every state with a wide brush because there are a few sore-heads around.
Not True. We'll need to build that "dang fence" due to all those Texans trying to sneak into Oklahoma.
listenToMe - we'd fund THOSE border agents. That's only fair!
@ Jody,
Alex, why is it so many republican legislators oppose birth control? The best way to reduce abortion is to provide sex education beyond abstinance only and to make contraception easily accessible and affordable. You are entitled to your view, you are not entitled to force any woman to adhere to it.
I am not, nor have I ever been, against birth control. My x-wife had to take birth control due to a hormonal imbalance. I've had girlfriends that were on it to prevent pregnancy. The only problem I have is my tax dollars paying for birth control. Sex is, and always has been, a responsibility. If you can't afford to have a child, then don't have sex... period. When I haven't been able to afford to support a child through out my life, I abstain from sex. That's why I have a right hand, and that's why women have toys (to be crude I guess). If I get a woman pregnant, it is MY responsibility to be there to raise the child mentally, morally and financially. It is not your responsibility to raise my child.
@SeekingSanity,
Did you ever think that maybe I am successful too? I'm not filthy rich, but I have my own accomplishments and I'm able to raise and support my family because of my accomplishments. I don't see you denying the facts that raising taxes on the rich isn't going to solve the nations issues. I'm not going to debate employment and taxes and any relation there. All I said (scroll up and read) is that raising the taxes on the rich is NOT going to solve the problem. I don't just spit out talking points like you libs. I only talk about what I know for a fact about. You can't deny that if you take 100% of the money that the rich have in this country it will barely put a dent in the fiscal issues of our country. THAT is all I was saying.
As far as reagan, I didn't have a problem when it came through. I did have a problem after it was done since the democrats (and republicans in later administrations) didn't follow through on it. But, I know what I'm talking about, you obviously don't since it's so much easier to blame people. So, like I encouraged before, go pick up 'Google for Dummies' and learn a bit so you are quite so ignorant (you really like that word don't you? I kinda do too).
As far as hatred, I only hate a few people, one being a lady my wife has to work with. I don't hate people not just like me, I'm glad everyone isn't JUST like me, it'd get boring. I wouldn't have ignorant (great word) libs like you to pick on! Mostly I just pity to you to be honest, but I definitely don't hate you, I don't know enough about you to hate! (just don't beat my wife, my dog and DEFINITELY don't take my beer, then I will hate you)
Things must be REALLY BAD in Texas if that's the case. ;)
Why would Texans want to secede? All they have to do is cross the border if they want to be Mexicans. Because that is exactly what they will be if they secede. They would become Mexico's 32 state. If they secede Mexico would march right in and claim them. How is little old Texas going to fight off a whole country? So maybe the USA will help them. YOU JUST THUMBED YOUR NOSE AT US. NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO HELP YOUR STUPID A$$
We still don't have everything counted in Arizona -- hoping the Republican Party does not throw out provisional ballots etc. like they have in the past... Imagine, just throwing out ballots because it's too much work.
And if Pennsylvania Teapublicans had not successfully gerrymandered to create all those safe districts for GOP candidates, President Obama would have had an even larger electoral vote, and the Dems would have regained a majority in the House. Don't think these shenanigans have been overlooked... this kind of crap is going to be corrected before future elections.
Slimyone -- Remember the Alamo?
Some of them are gay, have gay children or family members. No only don't they ask, they can't see what's right in front of their eyes!
Jody, Iowa.......
Many GOPeaParty folk (particularly evangelical) wish to enforce celibacy until (traditional) marriage. That is why they oppose birth control which they view as technology which discourages celibacy.
These folks believe they have a right (even a duty) to foist their religious and "moral" beliefs on the rest of us. Just ask them. That's why some refer to them as the American Taliban.
hs321......
Many republicans are elderly ideologues. They won't change their ways, their beliefs, or their prejudices. But, the truly and purely fiscal conservatives will "see the light". The evidence is already beginning to appear.
Note: See AlexM-3929653's comment for confirmation about celibacy:
And that economy is due to being part of the USA. Ask Cuba how well they fared when the US implemented trade embargoes. Imagine how strong that economy would be when the US and its allies implemented trade embargoes - it certainly wouldn't be at 15th.
Small government Republicans only want small government capitalism for the middle class. For the upper 1% government socialism is just fine.
AlexM-3929653........
Even IF raising taxes on the wealthy did not contribute one penny to deficit reduction (it will), it is the RIGHT THING TO DO.
You know as well as the rest of us there is tremendous unfairness in our economic system. We cannot and we should not rest until there is "justice for all".
Think about this: If Mitt Romney's vast income was earned instead by many middle income earners, how much more in federal income taxes would be paid (on that sum)?
We need a "percolate up" economy and certainly not a "trickle down" one. The middle class is the economic engine for this nation.
There are good wealthy folks and there are bad. We don't need the bad ones. Stop defending them. They could not care less about you.
10K signed the petition. Texas population 26 million +. Do the math. 10K divided by 26 million =0.0385%= NOT A GD THING. 10K is equal to the 241st largest city in Texas Bonham TX. Don't breakout your Battleflags yet boys!Blacks make up almost 12% and Hispanics make up almost 38%
Smitty - On my way now, bringing Lizzy with me and some guns and alcohol. We'll trade. Funny how an article about such obvious stuff can get people all hot and bothered. Sixty percent of people with no money said they are for higher taxes on people with money...no kidding captain obvious...most people think abortions should be legal...stunner, it already is.
So you're in favor of a government that is elected to ensure that some people profit at the expense of others? What's your problem with equal opportunity for everyone? Nobody here said anything at all about equal outcome.
Severed Head in a Jar
Maybe you should get your head out of that jar. Put it on your shoulders and use it to think with instead of using it for display.
Note: See AlexM-3929653's comment for confirmation about celibacy:
Are you honestly going to tell me that it's my responsibility to financially support your sex life? If you can afford condoms and/or birth control pills, then by all means go hump like a bunny rabbit. But if you can't afford birth control and you get the itch, it is NOT my responsibility to financially support your hormones. That has nothing to do with beliefs, morals, religion, or anything except financial responsibility.
Even IF raising taxes on the wealthy did not contribute one penny to deficit reduction (it will), it is the RIGHT THING TO DO.
If you even read my posts above, I did state I wouldn't have a problem with raising taxes on the wealthy within reason. But, like I also states, you libs are so f'ing rabid about the rich that you honestly need to back off a bit.
You know as well as the rest of us there is tremendous unfairness in our economic system. We cannot and we should not rest until there is "justice for all".
That's way too much communist for me, which is one reason I don't support obama and his class warfare. Are you going to start burning down mansions and hanging the rich families like they have in past history? Check out european history, how'd that work out?
Think about this: If Mitt Romney's vast income was earned instead by many middle income earners, how much more in federal income taxes would be paid (on that sum)?
Yep, damn mitt for being successful. I'm pretty sure he didn't go to work a single day in his life. He didn't earn that!!
There are good wealthy folks and there are bad. We don't need the bad ones. Stop defending them. They could not care less about you.
I don't see the good rich doing any more than the 'bad' rich. If you think a single one of them care about YOU, then you should think again. I was never under the impression they cared about me, nor do I really care about them. All I know is that in this country, I have the opportunity to do what I want. I could have easily ridden the dot.com era and been very wealthy right now, instead I chose to go out and live life a bit and put off my education. Now I do have a good job, a solid degree, and I'm able to support my family. I am happy with what I have and strive to improve it. But everything I have is what I earned through MY hard work. I don't want what the romneys, the soros, the koch bros of the world have. I want what /I/ earn.
But then again... I have pride in myself, so that goes a long ways.
And for the record, I don't align myself with either party since both parties have agendas that aren't in the best interests of the country. I vote for the lesser of two evils.... which is pretty much the same any election.
Republicans are in a no win situation in the House of Representatives. Obama will not yield to their ideas, so if they wanted, they could tie Obama's hands for at least 2 more years, however they will get all the blame for anything bad that happens in the mean time. A better approach would be to approve everything Obama wants, BUT go on record as to what you would have done differently. That way all the responsibility lies with Obama. There are many unintended consequence that will rise out of Obama/Democrats plans, these will devastate the fragile economy and send us back into recession.
What the GOP learned from the 2012 elections:
Americans LOVE to have their private lives and bedroom habits debated and legislated.
C'mon GOP...Bring on the General Petraeus "scandal" instead of fixing the economy!!
Alex M,
The fact that you're drawing a line in the sand on birth control pills says more about you than you suspect. In your sentence above, substitute CatScan for "sex life". Or any other medical procedure or prescription. How about Viagra? Why should I pay for you to be able to get it up? (I could draw a conclusion between my first and last sentences, but I'll leave it to others to be snarky.)
Birth control, family leave, family size--all of these things affect not only individual families, but society and the ability of businesses to plan and be successful. I get so tired of people like you who constantly whine about--what is, in reality--your responsibility to society and community. It's always "Me, Me, Me! What's in it for me! Hey, everybody, look at me! Poor me!"
Go somewhere else if you want to cry. No one here cares.
Alex M - actually - you DO just spit out talking points. Nowhere did I say increasing taxes on the rich was going to solve all of our problems. I stated we need to increase taxes and cut spending. Failed to read that point I see. I also said - facts - unemployment was lower when taxes were higher under Clinton. After the Bush tax cuts we started losing jobs in the hundreds of thousands. Clearly giving the rich tax cuts DOESN'T increase jobs.
As for ACA- it needs tweeking. However, for those college students who can now stay on their parents insurance or for the person who has a pre-existing condition and can now get insurance it is a good thing. And, had the Republicans done anything except talk about it for over a decade - they could have put together the progam THEY thought was best. But, as usual, all they did was talk.
I have no problem with the rich. And, the rich who have values have no problem paying more - they know they can afford to. Clearly the problem here is your reading comprehension. Get it fixed!
Texas or any other state is not going anywhere. It is illegal for states to secede. A bunch of them tried that in 1860 and they paid dearly for it.
There are simply adults pouting little children (Grover Norquist even used the term poopie head) about losing big time in the recent election. They'll get over it eventually whether this year, next or the next after that, or a decade or so from now. When they have less and less power and become the laughing stock of the nation and the world they may just wake up. Until then the adults will continue to move forward into the 21st Century. Maybe they have learned their lesson about digging in their heels and not being willing to compromise. People are watching. If there is give and take people will judge them better than if they dig in and simplay say no like they have been doing the past few years.
Hardtostarboard, I agree, the Republicans should give Obama all he wants. That will cement his mandate and show that they were wrong in being so stubborn in the first place. Had they agreed even a little in the first term they would be looking a lot better now and maybe even have been able to say no more often now without the stigma of being the party of no. Their vow to make Obama a one term president obviously didn't work. Like Bill Clinton bested Newt Gingrich and his contract on America Obama will defeat Grover Norquist and his no tax under any circumstances, ridiculous, pledge. John Boehner must bring his people around or meet the same fate as Newt. Passé politicians are just that passé.
Just think of all the good things that could have been done and can be done when Congress and the President work together for the good of all the people. Since corporations ARE NOT people too, my friend, that means they serve only the individuals in those corporations not the corporations themselves.
To those who talk secession, when will the Civil War be over for you? My gawd, it's one thing to be going through the stages of grief, but another to think the United States of America is yours to split up. If you want to leave, just leave. You might like Russia, where folks show their papers, there's only one Party, plenty of state news, and not a lot of diversity. Oh, I forgot, they aren't the religious-Right. Okay, then maybe try Afghanistan.
But seriously, there are many issues such as the Voters Rights Act that exist because of the slave states versus the free states. Add to that the Republican "southern strategy" and we see the continued polarization along the same lines as the Civil War. Enough!
Just thank heavens that the Teapublicans were rejected, and we can now move forward with a balanced approach to the deficit, creating opportunity for all (expanding the middle class and upward mobility for the working poor), energy with climate change in mind, affordable health care, investment in education, infrastructure, no more unnecessary wars, etc.
Look at the Dems with congressional candidates that are more representative of our population -- the largest number of women in history, for example, while the Teapublicans remain 98% white and mostly male. This alone says it all.
Republicans and conservatives in particular are so out of touch with reality after being brainwashed by FOX. Look at Karl Rove's melt down to the facts? They are sealing their own fate which is to die as a party unless they get in touch with the real world and stop listening to Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly!
Jody, Iowa -- After listening to Rush Limbaugh talk about birth control pills as if these are taken the same way he takes Viagra, and Todd Akin believing quackery about "legitimate" rape, and Mourdock thinking pregnancy is God's will (I guess God really likes bunny rabbits), it's obvious we NEED sex education. And, these Flat Earth Society beliefs are not isolated -- Finally the Dems and then the press forced these ignoramuses to say these things out loud. They have just been flying under the radar, talking to one another, mistakenly thinking their extremism, ignorance, conspiracy theories, etc. are mainstream.
I think the irony is that Romney's popular vote was 47%. Didn't everybody think that number was going to come back and bite Mitten's in the a$$?!?
One thing people are overlooking is that the so called TEA party are nothing more than Libertarians in sheep clothing. Their ideas of a smaller government and lower taxes were rejected in the 40s to the point they cease to exist until the 70s when they started getting more support. Their leader is Grover Norquist who has the backing of billionaires that want to buy power by buying candidates that will support tax cuts so they can destroy the country for their greed. It's a proven fact that men cannot get enough money and power. They have more money than they will ever spend yet it isn't enough. They want to use the infrastructure of the nation but don't want to pay for it in taxes.
Some on here complain they don't want to pay for birth control pills well let me point out that I don't want to pay for the needless war in Iraq so let your money pay for Iraq and mine will pay for birth control pills and we'll be even.
Gary - I didn't even think about that. 47% - only fitting! LOL

I would be more willing to believe that those states' Officials would have to respond before the White House. Do you really believe that 20,000 people in states where MILLIONS of people live, and decide that you want to no longer be one of the United States, and the President of the United States has to give you an "official response" without any consideration whatsoever to the Governors, the State Senate, the State Congressmen, etc.?
I suppose Republicans amnesia is to blame for some folks not remembering what happened the last time the North and the South had a fight over this issue.

Mitt, I forgive you for not showing your tax returns. It doesn't matter much, but it might of helped your cause if the people had a clue that you were not a crook. Dear Red States:
We're ticked off at your Neanderthal attitudes and politics, so we've decided you don't have to leave, we will.
We in New York, Mass and CA intend to form our own country and we're taking all the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Md, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Vermont, the rest of the Northeast, and DC also.
We believe this split will be beneficial to the entire nation and especially to the people of our new country called "The Enlightened States of America" (E.S.A).
To sum up briefly:
You get Texas, Oklahoma, AZ and all the slave states.
We get stem cell research, the best beaches, and we'll take all of the creative gay people you don't want anyway.
We get Barack and Michelle, Bill & Hillary, Andrew Cuomo, Elizabeth Warren, and Dianne Feinstein. You get Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry and Todd Akin.
We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.
We get Apple, Intel, Microsoft and all the smart technology. You get WorldCom, the Koch Bros, and all the coal/oil pollution.
We get Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UC, Stanford and Princeton. You get Ole' Miss.
We get Silicon Valley, NYC, San Fran, Seattle and 85 percent of America's venture capital and best entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama and Arkansas.
We get two-thirds of all the tax revenue. You get to make the red states pay their fair share.
Our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition states, so we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of angry single moms and deadbeat dads.
With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines (you can serve Ripple at your state dinners), 90% of the best cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulfur coal, all the living redwoods, solar power, the Sequoias and condors, all the Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, UC, UCLA, Cal Tech and MIT.
With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all the obese Americans and their projected healthcare costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all the Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, plus Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.
We also get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you very much. You get Appalachia.
You get the 38% of those in the Red states who believe that the world was created in 7 days and that Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, the 62% who are pro-life for fetuses but not for the kids who are actually born or their Moms, those who believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, the 44% who know that evolution is only a theory, the 53% who still believe that Saddam was part of 9/11 and had weapons of mass destruction, that Obama was born in Kenya, and the 61% of those crazy bastards who even believe they have higher morals than we do.
We're taking all the good weed too. You can have that crap they grow in Mexico.

Alex, the problem isn't that Mitt is successful, or didn't work hard, you missed the point. The unfairness in the system (And the entire point of the comments you rebutted) is that at a certain point, he can make as much as 10,000 of us combined in a year, and pay less back into schools, roads, police forces, national defense, medical care, or any other service his and our families enjoy, than the 10,000 wage earners would pay individually. Because his interests (money) are represented on capitol hill, making 17 MILLION dollars in a year, means that NATURALLY he should pay LESS than the rest of the nation that cannot pay their mortgage. But the ones losing are the leeches, while paying MORE??!The financial elite are blessing us with their presence?! If the poor have money, they buy Televisions, Cars, Homes, Eat out at locally owned restaurants, you know, SPEND it. When Mitt gets ANOTHER 17 million this year, it will go directly into a bank account in the Cayman Islands and NO business owner of any kind will ever see it. GONE FOREVER. There's your economy. Reagan/Bush=Worst recession in 30 years, Where'd all the money go? Clinton/Gore=Strongest economy in 30 years, Where'd all the money come from? Bush/Cheney= Worst recession in 80!! years, Where'd all the money go?! Noone can buy anything because it's collecting in huge piles off shore for the same 20 people, and they wonder how come they can't make money anymore,...There's none left! you have completed your collection! The reason 47% of Americans don't pay taxes is because 47% of Americans are POOR. But THEY need to do more to make sure Mitts profits don't decline?! How selfish and inconsiderate. Jesus is disgusted to be associated with you. Sleep well!

The tax returns were not the issue. Rich is. People have been brought up that rich are evil. I don't see other rich people giving away 30% of what they earned. When you add that to the taxes he paid that's 43% of what he earned. Being rich has become such a problem for those in the republican party, they could give it all away and pay every penney of their income in taxes and they still would be hated.
The deciding factor in the election was likeability / who the electorate was comfortable with.

Over half of the Rich people of today started out poor. Until the last 5 years, you could be the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. That has gotten a lot harder because now no matter what you make, your profit margin is not going to be there. Getting started, no matter who you are is going to be a lot harder.
75% of the small businesses today have stated they wouldn't have started their businesses under the laws as written today.
It's really got to be extremely discouraging for minorities today. Just in the last 2 years minority unemployment has risen in both the African American and Hispanic communities, despite the unemployment rate dropping from 9% to 8%. That's in the last 2 years, under the policies of the democrats. Bush had nothing to do with it, yet you blame him for the problems?

Funny but I am seeing a LOT of new start ups here in Utah. And they are doing FINE with the regulations. Besides, BIG business (think Banks eta all) Need MORE regulations...they Still have not learned their lesson!
20K people? for real? Michigan has bigger football games.
Don't let the door hit them in the butt on the way out...
And I'd suggest to Texas they have a care. In a few more years they are going to be a swing state.
Since you want to bring up Viagra, I think it's ridiculous that insurance covers that. It's not your problem if I can't get it up. As far as 'sex life'? Like my x-wife, if the birth control pills are needed for a MEDICAL reason, then by all means put it on insurance. But to compare you getting a piece of ass safely to a CatScan is beyond humorous.
Poor me!"
lol, you want to get into family and society? Oh this is getting good! Let's take a look at the complete lack of morals that libs put out, and the extremely stringent morals the far right puts out. Do you honestly think that is helping society any?
Examples:
1. This lady that my wife works with that I hate, she works full time, she has two young daughters, she has insurance coverage and child support through her x husband. She is also living with friends, claiming to work for the state (she doesn't), she is receiving WIC, she raids the food banks constantly taking food from those who truly need, she claims to be part american indian to receive benefits, she goes around to all the churches to get free toys for her daughters at xmas, plays the sympathy card to get even more free toys from work friends, has on average three xmas trees. This whole time she is eating out at BK, dutch bros, human bean, taking vacations. She just took her daughter to two different ERs for no reason so she could claim thousands in insurance benefits. This is the kind of person you libs are 'helping'.
2. Another lady in the area here, married to an illegal, weighs (seriously) around 400 lbs, has 6 kids. Her youngest turned four, so she just had another (welfare benefits drop when they turn four). So that's seven kids on my tax dollars. She also is hitting medicaid for physical therapy because she has 'bad' ankles and a 'bad' back. She is on every welfare benefit available. This is the kind of person you libs are 'helping'.
3. A man who won't pay his child support, lady had to raise her son on her own while working two jobs (won't take welfare). He's claiming work injury, actually admitted to not working due to child support. He's on every welfare benefit available. This is the kind of person you libs are 'helping'.
I can go on and on about people I've seen taking advantage of my tax dollars. Why does it continue? Because you libs aren't instilling responsibility in society. Why do I see kids/adults buying Red Bull and candy on EBT cards? Why do I see a guy driving a humvee and using a gas voucher card from welfare? When I was a checker at the grocery store I would have people come through with prime rib, lobster, steak, etc on EBT. You give and give and give (good in theory), but it isn't FORCING people to be responsible. Now you want sex without responsibility. Well, they already live better than most 'middle' class, they drive new cars, buy homes or live in HUD houses better than some 'middle' class. They have big screen tv's, new game machines, new ipods, the latest iphone, $200 nikes, and drink red bull and eat twinkies. And now you want them to go out and @!$%# like rabbits all on my tax dollar.
Then you talk about how society is my responsibility. The kind of society growing in this country is NOT my responsibility. My responsibility is MY family and making sure my children do NOT end up like some of your democrat voters.
lol, society? Take a good close look at it, it's not pretty.
DB Akron, the reason the unemployment for blacks and whites both is higher now than it should be is because of the do nothing congress that has successfully blocked ever jobs bill put before them for the last two years. You do realize that the Republicans have had control of the house and has refused to pass any bill that will help the jobs situation. They even blocked the jobs for returning veterans.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57517160/senate-gop-blocks-veterans-jobs-bill/
The Republicans claimed it was too expensive but forget that it wasn't too expensive to pay them to do their fighting for them. No it's not that much Bush's fault the unemployment didn't come down as much as it should have but it certainly is his fault it got that high in the first place. The blame now lies with the congress because he cannot sign bills into law that are not passed by congress and if the Republicans continue to block bills for the next 2 years they will have the Devil to pay in the next election.
That sure doesn't apply to ego though. I have yet to meet a shy Texan.
mj, 107000 people, to be near exact.
Heck, think back to the last time Republicans got a popular vote above that? They try to spin a 50/50 split in the nation, but we know the higher the turn-out the more the Dems win.
DB is in his Cone of Silence -- He can't hear you. Also, if public sector jobs had not been cut, the unemployment rate would be an entire point lower now too. Dubya artificially kept the economy afloat with public sector hiring, the housing boom, etc. Lawd forbid if President Obama could have done that seeing as the GOP/TP's #1 priority was not the American people, but to defeat the president. They deserve to lose even more seats in the elections ahead.
There are many things the government should butt out of. There are a lot of things best left to government. I definitely don't want disaster relief turned over to private companies and I think the private prison industry is an expensive disgrace especially in a country calls itself free.
If you take away any of the three "entitlement" groups, blacks, latinos or unions, Obama would have fallen flat on his face. These groups believe they are entitled to the tax money that the government extracts from the tax payers and not obligated to work for a living. Education in the United States is saddled with the unions and has no leadership. The blacks voted like south american dictatorships, 95% for Obama and the Latinos as demonstrated on nbcnews are demanding that they get paid for their votes. One only has to look at any "ELECTION" in countries run by dictatorships and see that the "VOTING PUBLIC" voted by 95% to put the dictator back in power. Illinois just reduced the time to fire a school teacher from 4 years to 1.5 years. Meanwhile the person is not teaching and drawing a full salary. The Latinos are looking for a handout and know they can get it from Obama and not Romney.
You saddled yourself to Obama and now you have to get more of the same as the last four years stalemate and bad government.
I'm not going to go on an in depth debate on exactly how taxes and unemployment help or negate each other since I don't have numbers in front of me, wouldn't want to be quoted as talking out my ass! :) But! There are other things other than taxes that affect unemployment, such as... NAFTA (which both sides support). Free trade agreements (from what I've seen) really aren't good for the unemployment. Obama proved that when he signed those last free trade agreements AND signed in benefits for those who lost their jobs due to the agreements. If free trade was good for us, then you wouldn't have worry about people losing their jobs due to it. Out sourcing has been another bane to unemployment over the past few decades. So there is a bit more involved than just taxes.
I'll completely agree that universal healthcare for everyone is a great idea. I myself have been in hard times earlier in life where I couldn't afford to go to the doctor. But the implementation of ACA is horrendous. My wife's premiums skyrocketed, mine are due to skyrocket next year. Costs at the hospital and doctors are going up so they can cover their losses with new taxes and medicare/medicaid loss. I'm middle class, and the only people I see hurting from this IS the middle class. So yes, I take offense to it. Not that the right had anything to offer, agreed. But to just come up with a bill, force it through without letting us know the outcome? Seriously... that's the kind of stuff that goes on in communist/socialist countries.
Much like immigration, neither side can come up with a plan that actually benefits the country. It's all about pleasing the people that voted for you, and hurting those that didn't (actually I voted for him and he screwed me). It's about pleasing your donors (look into the companies that ACA benefits). It is most definitely not about what's good for the country. If it was, then it would've been a lot more transparent.
Of course, if you take away greed and bigotry, Rmoney loses 80/20. He was lucky to be as close as he was, depending largely upon American fear, stupidity, and blind hatred.
Back in the saddle again - how sweet it is!!
Larry -
I think they actually believe that if they talk a lot really loud, no one will notice they can't figure out how to get the little thing up!!!
Alex M,
I know those people you're talking about. They're all Republicans.
Anyone in any society (and I have lived in several countries) can point to people just like those folks. So what? That has nothing to do with our society overall. You're cynical and miserly. I would hate to be you.
This is a bunch of crap. It has nothing to do with the ACA. During the decade prior to the implementation of the ACA, my premiums skyrocketed EVERY year. Last year was the first year in the past 10 that the increase was so minimal that I didn't even notice it. Plus, I got money back from my insurance company just a couple of weeks ago--this was one of the things that was supposed to happen, and it has. Finally, my company said that our premiums are going up minimally again next year. I won't even notice the increase again. So, blather on. You're full of it.
Your attitude is much like DB Akron, who says: "People have been brought up that rich are evil." Another bunch of crap. I don't know any Liberal on this Vine who believes that. Greed is evil. The wealthy not paying their share is evil. Romney professing to be a Patriot while hiding his money in the Cayman Islands and sending American jobs overseas is evil.
Toredown The dumbing down of America is your problem. Obama has shown that he belongs in the do nothing party. He can't get along with his own party, can not be bi partisan and is racist. As you know nothing about economics, running a large company or being a governor of a state, you have no right to make opinions about successful people.
You have not investigated Obama and his teachings, learnings or ability to lead a party or a government.
If you take away the 19,000,000 black vote or the union vote or the hand me more more Latino vote as they loudly demanded then you have only the people who understand that Obama cannot do anything for them as the unions are shrinking and the black unemployment is double what it was when he took office. Real wages are down over 25% from when Obama took office. The take home pay might be the same amount how either the purchasing power is down 25%. Look at the government figures put out by the Obama controlled government. Obama just through hundreds of thousands of U.S. jobs to New Zealand, Australia and South Korea with free trade agreements. He refused to sign off on the Canadian pipeline so the Canadians are shipping their oil to China.
Obama said he was going to create a department of economics as he doesn't have the intelligence to understand economics and in his term as state senator in Illinois, not one of his proposals for laws was accepted. All of his 295 proposals were not accepted by his fellow members of the Illinois Senate.
Face it you have an ignorant blatantly unintelligent political hack who stitched together the least intelligent people of the U.S. to form a coalition of groups who want a handout and refuse to do what is best for the country. Remember JFK's election statement? "Ask NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN FOR YOU BUT ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY." Is Obama going to show the way by taking a pay cut of his $500,000 salary? Is Mrs. Obama going to do a Mamie Eisenhower and cut coupons from the newspaper and internet to reduce the cost of food being served in the White House?
As for the DJIA going back to 13,000, the recent 400 point plunge was not applauding Obama's winning the election. Besides going back to 13,000 doesn't mean that the country is on the mend. On average prices double every eight years. So if the market came back to 13,000, it only means that it has not risen to 18.000 which it should be at. You are worse off now at 13,000 then you were when it was 13,000 four years ago. Learn some economics and real politics. The people didn't want to hear the truth about Obama and most assuredly, the blacks voted by skin color.
through hundreds of jobs=threw hundreds of jobs.
In Texas? hmmm...that wasn't my impression. I lived there for more than a decade and found the people to be an odd mix of delusional (Texans are better than anyone else; Texas is perfect), violent (women abducted, raped and murdered there at a rate worse than anywhere else I've ever lived; rampant child abuse), uneducated (Texas has one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the U.S.), and bigoted (hatred of Yankees, gays and minorities).
In addition Texas is horribly polluted, has an awful climate, terrible traffic, and it's not much for scenery except in the Hill Country. The beaches aren't nice unless you go all the way down to Corpus Christi. I've lived in a lot of much better places and I wouldn't ever choose to go back to Texas.
The GOP lost because they and those that supported them started to believe their own propaganda about issues, President Obama, and the person they had running for office... They did this during the election when polls indicated what the swing vote cared about, what the battle ground states cared about, and what the general electorate considered most important.
They believed that the president did such a horrible job that they could put Mickey Mouse up there and he would win. Now that they lost, they're going to come up with every reason under the sun for that lose like illegal immigrants, voter fraud, a hurricane, black people voting, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them believed that alien abductions before the elections took away 3M Romney votes...
No.... it couldn't possibly be their stance on the issues... clearly it's because they weren't conservative enough. That's the thought that's running through their heads right now.... And it's one of the main reasons they lost.
doggysaywhat Speak louder, your voice is lost down there with all the people with their hands out and demanding to be paid for their votes and the racists looking out for their own. Real income is down, unemployment will be up, the stock market will be stalled and opportunities for real Americans who want to work will be thrown away by this ridiculous political hack.
Every Sunday one of our local newspapers prints "ficticious name" declarations. They also publish notices of default on realestate loans. Unlke a few years ago when the realestate defaults were taking up two or three pages today they barely take a column. The ficticious name requests, that is for new businesses startint up, are taking two plus pages. That indicates the people are, in fact, opening new small businesses and that the default loan crisis is over.
Of the 60% who voted in favor of an increase in taxes what percentage actually pay taxes? And of the 65% who agreed most illegal aliens should be offered a chance to apply for legal status, what percentage was Hispanic? Would be interesting to know but the Obamedia won't break it down.
Now that's funny! The most distinguished ex-member of the Texas Air National Guard is George W. Bush. You know, the guy whose daddy got him in to dodge the Viet Nam war, couldn't passa physical and left early to go into politics. The man who bankrupted every private company his daddy got him into. And the man who bankrupted the entire US economy when he became president! Yeah, maybe Texas will do all right by itself. But I damned sure think the rest of the US will do a helluva lot better without Texas!
Has the right wing completely lost its critical thinking skills? Here is what a previous posted said about why Texas would do just fine seceding:
"1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas, so they control the space industry.
2. Texas refines over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.
3. They have over 65% of the Defense Industry.
4. Oil - they can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years.
5. Natural Gas - They have all they need."
1. If you idiots were to secede, the U.S. space program would not BE in Texas. (And all of you complainers about "takers" of federal money apparently don't count yourselves among the "takers" despite the infusion of government money the space program brings you!)
2. It does NOW. There is no reason the U.S. has to buy a drop from you vs. anyone else if you secede. And since it is Texas oil interests that advocate against alternative energy, in the long run we'd be better off without you. Ditto as to points 4 and 5, (which are really "double dipping").
3. See 1 above about the space program. Double ditto!! TAKERS, TAKERS, TAKERS and yet you criticize the poor single parent who might need food stamp assistance from time to time!
I say let Texas go and good riddance. If only this could have happened PRE Bush II!!
Of course: If you take away the African American vote, the Latino vote and the union vote, you still have the women's vote (we don't cotton to talk about "legitimate rape, you see), the Asian vote (which belonged to the Republicans until they REALLY teed off this group of folks), the young vote and well educated white people's vote (like MINE). Meaning the majority of the country. If only you eighth grade dropouts who "study up" on stuff by listening to Rush Limbaugh weren't in the minority, you would be in the majority. Well, that's a big DUH. But you aren't so you aren't!!
What amazes me is how the MSM for the last few months has completely lied to all of us regarding their polls. My God were they skewed awfully in Mitts favor, trying to generate a 50/50 split down the middle when in reality the election basically was a landslide for Democrats. And that is EXACTLY the reason not to believe POLLS.They are skewed by whomever paid off whatever branch of the MSM to say what they would like to hear.Pretty Orwellian to me
Hey FR friends, took the weekend off for family reasons. Had the day off to honor Veterans. Saw two sweet little elderly gentlemen at the grocery store Saturday. Took the time to shake their hands and thank them for their service. They were so sweet and thankful!
Let's all move forward .... this thread got a bit ugly ... no need for that.
What has been is in the past .... call out those in the present! Our country needs to move forward.
P.S. Ofcourse1 - your comment ... asinine! and dave-1582577 .... You're still dwelling on POLLS! Good laws! I trusted Nate Silver from Day ONE! Brain up and read a little more!
Ha, Romney got Waterlooed by the leaders of his own party, that strategy backfired on republicans as well as it should have. They got what they deserved.
Forrest Grump 2.0 You have the iq of Forrest Gump 1 too?
Wants to know You better do your homework. The Latins immediately wanted payment from Obama for their vote or don't you read the stories on nbcnews? How many Latins vored for Obama? The blacks voted 95% for Obama and the Union people voted overwhelmingly for Obama. The common theme is that these people want something for nothing. The American children are being short changed by the teachers who rely on unions to keep their jobs even though they should be fired. The blacks voted by race for a black man. The Latins are openly demanding that they want payment for their vote. Where in all these votes is an iota that the man they voted for they think is the best man for the job?
Funded and staffed through the federal government.
Subsidized through the federal tax code.
Funded, staffed and developed through the feds.
Subsidized through the feds and developed through federal research development and geological surveys.
Subsidized through the fed, developed through research and development by the feds and the geological surveys.
Sold, staffed, developed and owned through people both inside and OUTSIDE of Texas and most likely all incorporated in Delaware.
With the help of federal grants for research and development.
Who bring in staff and students from all over the country. Are given federal grants and partake in federal programs and research.
Eeek, amnesty! Good luck on getting your citizens to agree to that, and by the way, the other 49 states still have more.
All with stakes, grants and incorporation papers from all over the country.
With dependence on federal laws, procedures and standards. Armed through state money that buys guns, ammo and the like from corporations all over the country.
With federal farm subsidies and development.
Seriously? You wouldn't last a day.
I say we keep Texas, seeing as by rights it belongs to OUR country, and anyone who's so partisan they can't deal with OUR elected president can move out, find their own land, with their own natural resources, and be as partisan and divisive as they would like.
YOU can go, and take your traitorous petitions with you. You however, do NOT get to take OUR land with you.
We need a party that will let gays get married, and deport and punish illegals. A party that will also curb spending and give outs and keep abortion legal.
Repubs are so deep into a bible they will start courting rewarding illegals to get votes rather than let gays have rights. Dems are so far left and repubs are so far right, everyone in the middle gets screwed.
Ofcourse1 ...
And you know that HOW? You've stats and facts to back up your little rant? People come to the United States and work very hard to gain citizenship. You are one that appears to sit in their Lazy-boy and call the shots for the rest of the country. Good LAWS! Stop watching Fox, get out in the world, and meet a few of your fellow citizens prior to judging them so harshly!
BoredofStupid ... you need to educate yourself as well. What a dumb post!
The VAST MAJORITY of conservatives does not know what they want from day to day.....
until they fire-up that AM Radio & get the daily message from the Big Giant Head Limbaugh .
In other words...they are conservatives of convenience, as long as it is convenient they do as they are told .
Mister Fids ...
You just described most of my family .... ACCCKKK! Thanksgiving had better be quiet!
Severed Head:
Think about your statement for a minute. Anywhere you find profit, it was done so at somebody else's expense. There is a difference between profiting through fraudulent means vs. ethical profits. The government's role is to protect from fraud by establishing a framework under which commerce functions. The rules should be consistent among all groups of people. A classic example where it is not is affirmative action. This legislation is direct government intervention to provide an advantage for a few groups of people. Is it fair?
Equal opportunity and advantageous opportunity are not the same thing. Direct government intervention to provide an advantage is NOT equal opportunity.
One very big "issue" they lost on was their assault on Privacy/Women's Rights, and this is the one that very few Republicans are talking about. Big names have come out to say the Immigration Issue must be resolved. Big names have come out to say The Budget debits and credits can be worked out. I'm not hearing much from anyone about how the Republican Party is crippled unless it changes language on outlawing abortion. If they insist on keeping the Religious Right as a 'Republican constituency' by virtue of continuing this challenge to settled law, then they are openly courting defeat. They should drop the pretense of being 'closer to God' and define themselves on other issues - even if it means another political party will emerge to represent "those" voters.
So I guess we Progressives/Liberals got that part wrong then,
GOPers are NOT the "Party of NO",
Turns out they're the "Party of NO CLUE!"
Sucks to be them!
Layton-3733410 If you would learn to fact check and read, I wouldn't have to tell you to read this rag and look up my facts. The statistics state quite clearly that the blacks voted 95% for Obama. And this was only based on skin color. None of them looked at the 16% unemployment rate for black males, which is double what it was when Obama took office! None of the blacks are looking at the 50% increase of one parent families since Obama took office. None of the blacks are looking how much lower their real taken home pay decreased than white take home pay.
The Latins made the top news stories two days in a row on nbcnews demanding payment for voting for Obama. Why is the Black and Latino drop our rate the highest among ethnic groups?
Why should illegals be allowed to stay in this country with 8% unemployment with a 16 trillion dollar deficit. Let's say there are 15 million illegals. The people who hire them are not paying medicare, medicaid taxes, unemployment insurance or social security. Open the doors to making these people legal and 15 million will come in tomorrow. What a sucker you are.
The education system is so fu*ked up as the unions are stopping the firing of bad teachers and unqualified teachers. Obama constantly fed the unions 3 billions a year for the last four years. Look it up.
Of course you are probably one of the undereducated illegal, colored Latinos praying that Obama grants you amnesty so you don't have to go back and change the political system in your country. Remember it was Clinton that signed NAFTA and sent all the jobs to Mexico and Canada. Look it up before 2003 the U.S. had a neutral balance of payments with Mexico. This year the balance of payments is $70,000,000 in favor of Mexico. Over the last ten years it has amounted to more than $500,000,000,000 benefit to Mexico. Canada sends a sh*t load of exports to the U.S. The political hack just signed free trade agreements with Australia, New Zealand and South Korea. Watch our foreign trade balance with those countries tank too.
Hey learn to read and do research before you comment again!
American Girl, I think that you have it exactly right, NoJo, JoAnna, Spanky and the rest of that odious lot that never had any actual facts, always seemed to be posting from the same daily talking points sheet and nearly always resorted to as hominem attacks to try to derail the conversation merely to frustrate those who had salient, pertinent views and hard data HAD to be paid bloggers.
Now that they are not being paid, possibly due to Rove's Crossroads For America now being asked some seriously hard questions from the folks that they guaranteed the election to, they are no longer working the blogs since they know that not only will they not get paid for it, and would be ridiculed for their excessive ranting and raving, but also, they are out pounding the streets trying to find a NEW REAL Job...maybe one with actual benefits besides a half bottle of antacids a day and two aspirin just before they go home.
I could ALMOST feel sorry for those folks, but, considering the mountains of disrespect, hate, intolerance and lies that they dished out...Nahhh, they painted themselves into a corner, dug their pit DEEP and now have to lay down in the filth that they tried to spread on the rest of us.
Karma took it's own sweet time in arriving for some of these folks, but is all the sweeter because of it. Good Riddance and perhaps they will stay away....until 2013 when Paid Blogger Season for the GNOP/TPers happens again...sort of like migrant workers but with a lot more time between crops.

Forrest Grump 2.0 You have the iq of Forrest Gump 1 too?
OF COURSE NOT! Judging from the your misspelled word and the way you abbreviated intelligence quotient you have an IQ less than a 1st grader.

Hardly! Repeating the same thing over and over with out results is nonsense.
As a libertarian that votes democratic 99% of the time I take offense to your statement.
I believe government has no authority telling you what you can do while on your property or in your house. I believe either all religions are tolerated or none are. I dont believe men are any better than women and whites any better than blacks.
Until repubs get God out of the bed room and stop telling homosexuals that they cant enjoy the freedoms (or be just as miserable) as hetero married couples - they will continue to lose. Until they acknowledge that other non-christian religious groups have a constitutional right to exist - they will continue to lose. Until they stop trying to tell women whats best for her body - they will continue to lose.
That is not some conjecture - that is fact.
The Republicans were crushed on the issues and also because they represent religious repression, backward thinking, racist behavior, negative attitudes and they whine and complain about everything like a group of spoiled school girls.
These people try to find the bad in everything they see, it’s getting very old listening to these Neanderthals. They will not except that they lost the election so they come up with all these conspiracy theories about how the election was stolen………. They make me sick...
I feel nothing but pity for anyone that still supports this bunch of 19th century losers.
ofcourse1 you forgot women in your post about those who only voted for Obama because they want something for nothing, what is it that women want for nothing they voted overwhelmingly for Obama. Truth is you it all backwards, republicans are the ones that do not want to pay taxes and yet expect everything for nothing. 9 of the top 10 welfare states are solidly republican voting southern states, you better rethink who is actually wanting something for nothing.
Hey learn to read and do research before you comment again!
Oh, come on. Are you really going to argue that people like Romney don't have a HUGE advantage over the average Joe? If so, you aren't going to convince anyone but another greedy old white man. I don't know about you, but my dad didn't call the dean of Harvard B-School so I could get accepted there. I don't have a 13% (or lower) federal tax rate or millions stashed tax free in the Caymans. I've never hired a lobbyist to promote my personal financial interests.
Profit always comes at someone else's expense? Not true. Not if the buyer receives value for his dollar. But very true if you're paying $150 for a pair of sneakers that cost $5 to produce in China. That's not fair profit. That's greed, pure and simple. It is not illegal, however, and many would argue that it's not unethical either. It couldn't be considered fraud. It is not a level playing field when large and powerful multi-national corporations can drive the little guys out of business and then set their prices at unfair levels.
As for affirmative action, it works best it it is implemented at the pre-school level so that children from disadvantaged backgrounds are not kept perpetually in an underclass that does indeed take from the system without producing value for the larger society. Affirmative action at that stage in life does not provide an advantage, it only helps to level the playing field. A level playing field benefits everyone. Providing our disadvantaged children with opportunity and a way out of ignorance and poverty makes this country richer and stronger.
Ask yourself who holds all the cards in this country. Hint: it's the rich. Nobody with a brain is going to buy your argument that the poor have ever had any sort of advantage.
So what's your argument? Is it that everybody should be a Romney? You're actually proposing eliminating all economic inequality?? That would be the first time in mankind's history. No matter which system you put in place, inequality will exist. Wen Jiabao proved that in communist China. Exactly what should the government do to make everybody a Romney?
You're right but the government has already empowered you to do something about it. You can choose to not buy those sneakers. A company can charge $150 for sneakers but if nobody is buying them, he'll have to lower his price. If people are buying them for $150, is the manufacturer really overcharging?? This is economics 101. The wonderful thing about a capitalist economy is that competition exists. Eventually, somebody will come along and make those sneakers cheaper at which point the original seller will be forced to adjust his prices in order to compete. No government intervention is necessary.
Yes but as we all know, affirmative action extends far beyond pre-school. I once took a test to be a fireman when I was younger but did not get the job because affirmative action allowed other people taking the test to score higher on the exam than I ever could. In other words, they were credited up to 20 points higher than me even before taking the exam. They could potentially score 120 while I could only score a maximum of 100 on the exam. Is this the fairness for which you're arguing.
It's not just this country. The correct answer is that there is a rich class in every country - including communist countries. It will always be this way. No system you put in place will change it. Economically, some people succeed and others fail. They then have the opportunity to pass their riches on to the next generation. It is perfectly fair to create advantage for oneself as long as it's lawful and ethical advantage. That's his/her reward for success. Are you saying that this cycle is wrong?
I know those people you're talking about. They're all Republicans.
Wow, another lib that reads minds! I know for a fact that two of them voted for obama, I don't talk with the others so don't know. But... since obama is the one that supports giving free stuff, to not vote for him would've been to bite the hand that feeds.
You're cynical and miserly. I would hate to be you.
Cynical? I prefer realist since I'm just walking around with my head out of the sand and eyes open. Helping the poor is a good thing that I fully support. The problem with our welfare system is the 'pretend' poor aren't filtered out. If our welfare dollars went strictly to those truly in need, then maybe this 'war on poverty' might actually get somewhere. Instead, it just gets bigger and bigger. Why? Partially due to people seeing how easy it is to suck the government tit. There are so many places to cut welfare that would actually benefit the country. Put limits on what EBT can buy, they don't need red bull, candy and chips. Welfare dollars? Disallow purchasing big screen tvs, game consoles, etc. There was an article a few months back where a state (forget which) caught people using welfare dollars to go to strip joints. When I look at our welfare system, I don't see a good thing, but that's only because so many bad things are done with it. Get it under control.
Miserly?
I have a wife and child to support, I have a truck payment, a mortgage, student loans, credit cards, medical bills, etc. So yes, I pinch pennies so that I can afford to do thing like give my son $30 so he can take his first girlfriend to his/her first movie date. Call me miserly if you want, just making my way.
This is a bunch of crap. It has nothing to do with the ACA.
Well go ahead and tell my wife that. She has over 15 years experience in the medical insurance field. Obamacare puts more pressure on insurance companies, costs insurance companies more. Do you think the insurance companies are just going to eat that cost? No... we eat the cost, it gets passed down to us. Covering pre-existing conditions, more policies to abide by equals hiring more employees, free birth control, etc. Yes, insurance premiums go up every year, mine went up 3% this year (low I know), but we are grandfathered this year like I mentioned. So all I'm getting hit with is the normal premium raise. I honestly get the feeling you are either in denial or really don't know the affects ACA is having (and going to have) on us.
Beverly in Chicago Anyone who has to jump on a spelling mistake instead of the issue has an iq less than Gump.
Now that you have Obuma for four more years, what are you going to do with it?
Take a look in the mirror, ofcourse1. Someone else has an Obama/Biden administration for four more years.
We supporters couldn't be happier! The REAL question is what are YOU going to do with it? Are you willing to compromise and work with us, or are you still in denial/obstruction mode?
John-755418
My argument is simply that no amount of affirmative action will ever make up for the inequality and political disenfranchisement experienced by the poor and by minorities. Of course we can never achieve perfect equality and that isn't even a goal. The goal is to restore opportunity. The wealthy and well-connected can stop whining already. They're doing just fine.
It doesn't always work that way. An example: a sneaker manufacturer in Indonesia was cited for violating American laws by producing counterfeit Nike sneakers. Their defense was that Nike's wealth, power and advertising clout made it impossible to compete against them. Nike almost drove them out of business until they decided to imitate Nike products. They could produce a nearly identical product for a fraction of the price Nike charges, and still pay their workers a livable wage (as opposed to Nike's sweatshops). I do not purchase Nike products. Not all consumers are aware of the abuses perpetrated by powerful multi-national corporations.
Am I correct in assuming that your fireman experience occured a long time ago? I don't believe that kind of affirmative action is the norm these days. And you were discriminated against once in your life while minorities live with it every day.
No, not at all. It used to be that an American middle class family could educate their children, obtain decent and affordable healthcare and retire without living in poverty. Now there is too much power and wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, and it has damaged our economy and the viability of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Yes, there will remain stratifications in society, always. I'm not a communist, but I also don't want to see the U.S. turned into another Bangladesh by the greed of the Romneys and their ilk. Ten banks control 70% of all the financial assets in this country and that is not a good situation. We need a return to the days of trust busting and fair play.
And when The AnteBellumAristocrats directed the firing upon Ft Sumter, SC, March 1861, They were SURE The Mighty North would sit back silently and allow that SelfEntitled Ruling Class of Clueless plantation and slave owners to secede and create their "Southern Empire" conquering everyhing, all the way past Mexico to Brazil. Their lineage in present day American Society, the republicanCrimeCartel inhabits the same absurd and destructive aspirations; So where do these SuedoAmericans belong??? Well, After we INSERT the SENSIBLE Enema UpInside Crapital Hill and Flush the Politico Sewage OUT and , hopefully, into Prison, Maybe, Just Maybe, we can install Intelligent and Talented Men and Women to do a Good Day's Work of helping to Heal America. ooohh... and "bibi" and aipac: Go Away
@Feisty Redhead - I hope you live in Ohio and are on food stamps. www.toledoblade.com/State/2012/11/12/ohioans-food-stamp. So who's going to be screaming now?
Yes, Obama is going to take good care of all those who voted for him. Like he didn't know before the election that cutting back on food stamps was on the agenda.....and do pigs fly? What's next? A cut in welfare benefits? Take away the free phones? Maybe start taxing those earning under $25,000?
And for the record........Obama's win was not an overwhelming win or landslide. He won 50.1% of the votes and not 60%+ or 70%+.
Actually, he got 62,285,005 votes, whereas Governor Romney got 58,907,640. However, here in the US, we count electoral votes, and he got 62% of the electoral votes.
If you want to deny that he got a mandate from the people because he had only 5% more of the popular vote, then by your logic, the House has no mandate at all, as the Republicans lost the popular vote in the House.
The problem with news organizations is they just don't get it. Everyone is Now A News Organization due to the ubiquitous of powerful low cost handheld smartphone and tablets. Also forgetting there is more accurate and honorable organizations that pride themselves on PURE FACTS.
Also the organizations that push lies, hate, racism, propaganda, extreme points of views has always been fought against throughout American history. (see slavery, voting rights, civil rights, women rights)
This point in history is no differences - The progressives are fighting back against the rich and lobbyist for legal bribes to write laws that will keep the rich schemes going. It's called the fleecing of America. Corporate handouts are looked upon as great government work. But if that same government help its citizens it is looked at as a hand out and moochers.
Again luckily the internet was invented and everyone has access to credible information and do not have to get all of there news from just the tv or radio.
You republican and traditional Americans there is something called the internet and it is here to stay. So get use to it.
Also the youth don't believe or understand the racist hate you are pushing
I'm not here to defend corporations. Undoubtedly, the barriers to market entry tend to grow more and more over time. I'm convinced, however, that the government enables these monopolistic practices to occur. Such is true for the big banks and the healthcare industry. Protectionism exists which discourage competition and keep product prices high. How easy would it be for you or I to suddenly open an MRI facility and offer MRIs for $200? Oh, we'd need a license first. Who distributes these licenses? Hmm. You can add big pharma to that list too.
This isn't new. America dealt with this during its entire history. Especially during the railroad boom of the mid to late 1800s. How successful has the government been correcting this type of economic environment?
Arguing from authority, as opposed to logic, really doesn't help your case.
Yes. By Obamacare law, they are required to eat the cost. They have to use at least 80% to 85% of the premiums on actually providing healthcare.
You are covering the pre-existing conditions anyway. The person involved was just not buying insurance and sticking you with the bill by going to the emergency room. Now, we have a chance of getting these illnesses and conditions before they get to the point where they have to go the emergency room.
What is often ignored in discussing the costs and advantages of the ACA is that there's a greater chance that we will now have a healthier population. Fewer people are going to be living in chronic pain. Despite what Republicans maintain, Americans are not shiftless and lazy. If they are healthy and able to work, they WILL work. A healthier workforce means a more productive workforce, and a more productive force means a workforce that makes more money. A workforce that makes more money pays taxes on that money - which is an advantage of Obamacare. It's difficult to know how much but it's doubtful that this is negligible.
Brooke Young,
The one great thing about the Rep losing the election is that when the economic collapse that Obama has us scheduled for happens it will not be able to be blamed on them. Brooke you are wrong yes Clinton had a good economic climate in his term but it was because of his policies that the housing market crash and that everything else followed. You talk about how much Bush spent in 8 years but say nothing about Obama spending one and a half times as much in half the time. It does not matter if people are poor or not everyone should pay income tax, everyone. The reason Romney pay so little in taxes is because he has already been taxed on the money once then he invests it and has to pay a lower capital gains tax it is the law is the same for you and I. This notion that the rich do not pay their fair share is just a bunch of BS. How can you set there and say someone should pay more just because they are successful and you are not maybe get off this web site and go get a job or go to school, oh yeah, Obama has F88ked all that up with his spending. You all say that Bush gave money to big oil and he did but Obama did the same damn thing for his top contributors from the green industry.
So as most of you set at your computers with no place to go while wearing your rose colored glasses know that smart people like myself are getting ourselves in a position to be able to take care of our families when in the next four years the economy finally collapses we will be in a better position than most and when that time comes you are going to find out just why it does not matter that you tax the rich more. The rich is just the Dem way to distract you from what is really going on do you know that if you took all the money from the 1% in this country it would only run our country for 30 day. So how does it make sense that by taxing them more that we can reduce our defect is just not accurate? The president has a spending problem and the only way to bring our deficit under control is to cut all the un-necessary government agencies that have been created. At some point people forgot that it is the public sector that creates jobs in this country not government but we keep growing government at a faster and faster rate which should be alarming to everyone.
I know that I will be just fine no matter what happens because I have taken the first step in realizing that is the most probable of all scenarios. It has also been proven time and time again.
The president wants tougher gun laws but since criminal don't buy guns from a store does this really make since. If you restrict guns you leave only criminals with the very guns you are trying to get rid of to me this make no sense at all. If someone breaks into my house and has a high capacity rifle I sure as hell want one my side to greet him with. Most of you are under the illusion that our police agencies are here to protect you from crime when the truth of the matter is there where designed to investigate crimes after they have occurred.
You all keep drinking the government cool aid and get what you think you are entitled to, as these is becoming the more prevalent them of America, instead of working hard and being self-reliant. I ask how many of you could survive a week or two without food, water or any of the comforts that we have become accustom to, I would go out on a limb here and say about 20% of the people, just look at what happened when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans total chaos. That is coming so to a city near you courtesy of president Obama and his failed leadership.
Like I said don’t care one way or the other as I know how to survive the elements, find food and build things that will save my life.
What I do know is that both parties are a problem and that the system was never designed to have career politicians as it becomes less and less about the issues of the communities they are supposed to be serving and more and more about what they can get what you all fail to realize is that the president and congress are the 1%. They are only here to keep you confused as you grow more and more dependent upon them to provide all your basic needs. Have a great day. By the way I sleep very well but soon not very many will. If you cannot see the coming collapse of the federal government I really do feel so sorry for you.
Here is an idea become self-reliant again if you depend on the government find a way to break that cycle it will only benefit you, as you are the only one that can keep yourself and your family safe the government will be busy trying to control the chaos and will not have time to help you on an individual bases, as this to has been proven time after time.
What happens if food cannot be shipped? Do you know that most of the seed we grow food with have been genetically modified? What about the high amount of fertilizer we use on our crops what happens to us if that cannot be shipped? See if you thin in logical terms then it is easy to see that one little hick-up in the power, fuel or supply lines and we are screwed. So you sleep well I know I do as I depend on myself and not the government.
You mean the economic collapse caused by higher unemployment? Or the rising deficit? Or the crashing stock market? Or the falling consumer confidence?
Too bad they are all headed in the right direction. But let us ignore that little fact. Let's just stick our fingers in our ears, close our eyes and pray things get worse under Obama so that the Republicans can cast some blame.
Well, the thing is, all you have is prayer, because Obama is succeeding. You just keep praying that things go bad for America. Let's see where that gets you.
Kuoatomonk, great stats. The sucking sound we all hear is money being taken from our wallets to try to prop up the "great" state of Texas with military bases, NASA and research; and, they STILL can't educate their citizenry, make their criminal justice system functional or meet third world health care standards (unless you can PAY for private cancer treatment- which you will need because of the carcinogens in the state!)
The whole conversion about who has a mandate no one does when you look at over a 121 million votes cast. With only a few million votes making a difference also the electoral votes are deceiving when it comes to a so called land slide mandate. More proof look at the replies to articles or forums it just shows we are more split the we think or want to believe.
Really states filing petitions to leave the union things like this usually don't end well, If the moment takes hold. Also remember if it got to the point of a state or states leaving the union normal rules have all ready went out the window. So at that point what state has the best chance for your survival? is where you will go.
To say a state couldn't survive out side the union in misguided, there are states in the USA that already have state currency laws in place. We consider the united kingdom and pretty decent size country Texas is almost 3 times the size of the Uk. With Texas having plenty of its own natural resources and farm land.
Pulling funding from different programs doesn't mean they will leave an area, if that area offers those company's a better deal. Competition for business's is in full swing for states this is nothing new you have states talking to other country's courting their business.
Whether we like or not the competitive free market system is the best out there, key words being competitive & free. Not the system ours has become where money buys rules to shut the other guys out. Seems people are confusing the two allot these days.
I got side tracked on the whole state thing sry.
The point is we are a very divided nation if you really look at it. If we don't wake up to that fact and still want to point fingers and blame someone else for the problems we helped create. Then it gets to the point that all it takes is that small moment it time for the match to strike. With chaos breaking out and once it gets to that level it is very hard to reel it back in. When that happens we all lose and we leave our childern a waste land.
There's huge portions of Texas that's federal land including land that produces oil and would continue to belong to the union. Also does anyone seriously think we'd allow any state to walk away from it's share of the national debt especially one that gave us the 2 Bushs and most of the debt?
The only reason Republicans stopped supporting immigration reform was that Obama was for it. They've become the party of anti-Obama ... regardless of what they used to believe in.
Sheriff Joe has been a Republican hero long before President Obama went to Washington.
It's been the Republican philosophy going back to Clinton. Republicans hated Clinton so much they called him the first black President.
It's 20 years of deep hatred. Look at the laws passed by Republican Governors and it's far deeper than just a hatred for Obama.
Debbie-525743 - Actually it was Toni Morrison who called Clinton the first black president and she meant it as a compliment. But hey, don't let anything like facts get in the way of your attempt to classify an entire segment of the population based on a fiction.
Actually Debbie their hatred is farther back than 20 years, they never quite got over their nixon baggage and never accepted the fact that the American voter rejected one of their "saints" because he was a crook!
I usually keep my political beliefs to myself at work, but as the election grew nearer the boss kept going on and on withan anti-Obama rant, so I shot back at him to tell me the differences between Obama and Romney. Obamacare, he said...you mean Romneycare?, I countered. This went on for a while...point, counterpoint. Finally, I asked him what his real problem with Obama was, I he snapped back,"He's a ni&&@r!!!! There it was, the truth at last. No matter. Fox News assured him that Romney was up by six points, and soon the nightmare he had endured would soon be over...then came Wednesday, full of shock, horror, and disbelief.
The hatred goes back to when the racist Democrats from the south didn't like African Americans getting anything resembling equal rights, so they gradually became Republicans.
They had nothing to run on except politics of divisionism....
These days you can never win by looking down on others, alliances and issues win the day folks
The thing that hurt most folks the most was the 47% comment.
It cemented the fact that Repubs do really think they are better than everyone else...
Well, it's gonna be a while before a republican sumbitch gets to the high office, that I guarantee ya...
That's proven to be their downfall.
So Mia Love and Marco Rubio are racists? The problem is the democrats keep race an issue. Republicans just want it to go away and everyone be treated as to their merits.
Romney was right. Democrats only think about the small things, and ignore the big issues. The economy, deficit and debt are still the major issues and democrats have no idea on how to deal with them.
Ursula...Bush tried to pass "comprehensive immigration reform". However, Democrats and Republicans alike crushed the attempt. The majority of Americans may have voted for Obama, but that same majority is opposed to amnesty, whatever name you want to give it.
I'm waiting to see what happens when Obama tries for amnesty, that is, if he doesn't bypass the people and do it by executive order again.
hs321 - you mean like the amnesty program Reagan gave during his office?
A little history, that goes beyond talking points, Seeking:
The 1986 amnesty was Ted Kennedy's idea, and strictly enforcing existing immigration laws from then forward, promised by the Simpson-Mazzoli Act, was supposed to be part of the deal. So Reagan (who later said it was the biggest mistake he made) and Congress (Dems and Repubs alike) went along and gave amnesty to almost 3 million illegal aliens, sending the message, that if you can steal in and stay long enough, the Americans will reward your illegal acts by giving you amnesty. How strong was that message? We now have 4 times as many, or more, wanting amnesty.
So, let's give these 12 million illegals amnesty and in another 20-25 years it will be 48 million wanting amnesty. Does that sound like a good idea to anyone?
“In 1986 Senator Kennedy said, ‘This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again bring forward another amnesty bill like this.”
hs321 - I truly believe we have to protect our borders. But, for children who were brought here very young or born here, it is not right to send them to their "native" country when this is the only country they know. There has to be a "path to citizenship" for those who know no other country but the United States.
Ursula-279622 writes,
You are SOOOO right. And they remind us of flocks of sparrows, or schools of fish, that all change direction simultaneously. They fall in line without any reservation. No thought process, no right or wrong, not even right or left - but just stick together come hell or high water.
They must have perfected mass ESP to function so beautifully co-ordinated as if they were a single person.
We could save tax money by allowing just a single person in Congress to act as the Republican voice - with all the voting power that the election entitles them, but with only one salary, health benefit and pension to pay. Conservatives should love that reduction in government employment.
Kevin T: "The problem is the democrats keep race an issue. Republicans just want it to go away and everyone be treated as to their merits."
The RepublicOns do want it to go away--but NOT because they want to "treat everyone according their merits." Oh that's the propaganda they push--but the truth is if they were really "pro merit"--they'd be PRO Obama! He has more merits than Romney--and that's a fact. Actually it's not so much they want racism to "go away"--as they want us to buy that they're not anti-Obama because of it.
Read John Browning's post at 2.4--that says it ALL!
Even the state of Massachusets where he governed did NOT vote for Romney. Nor did his home state. That should tell you something right there!
But sheriff Joe had zero interest in immigration issues until he discovered it would get his name in the media.
@hs321,
You gave away the reagan amnesty answer! I was trying to get SeekingSanity to go research that himself. :)
@SeekingSanity,
If congress would actually come up with a workable dream act, I'd support it. So far the partisan bickering just keeps killing it with stupid addons.
It's kinda like the pot bill that I just voted against in my state. I have no problem with people getting stoned, that's their problem. But the bill said absolutely nothing about enforcement such as driving, going to work, etc, etc. IF they had tagged on that it would be enforced just like alcohol, then I probably would've voted for it.
Whatever bill they come up with HAS to be the best for the country (not the illegals and/or their children).
Alex M - first I'm a woman and I already knew the answer. Try again!
Starting with Strom Thurmond, a Democrat senator from South Carolina that became so enraged with the Democrats fight for civil rights that he left the Democrat party alone with all his supporters. His deep rooted hate for the blacks was shared by all his supporters that they too changed from voting Democrat to voting Republican. The south in the past was a very strong Democrat base but look at it today. The same people with the same ideas going to a party that gladly accepts them by supporting their belief that blacks are not created equal.
Ronald Reagan, the demigod of the Right, gave amnesty to millions of undocumented people signalling that it is okay to come here illegally as you will eventually be pardoned. That is a can of worms we have to live with and that complicates immigration reform. While we can't just pack them up and haul them across the borders we also cannot allow people to come here in violation of our laws. Those who are being productive and children who were brought here by their parents illegally or who were born here of parents who are illegal immigrants should be given certain considerations. Compassion is needed but with a measure of sternness. It is like the benevolant parent who loves their child but must be tough in order for the child to learn right from wrong. Letting them come here whenever they want and then giving them amnesty was the wrong thing to do but little can be done to reverse it now. It is going to be a tough issue to deal with. (As usual Congress will probably continue to kick this can down the road)
@SeekingSanity,
Apologies for the gender miscall, I find it safer to assume and apologize later if wrong with that ;)
If you knew, it would've made the conversation a bit easier if you'd said so! I look on it as giving amnesty again is like letting your child get away with getting in the cookie jar. The child will assume (s)he can get away with it again, especially if you allow it again. The foot has to be put down. This is nothing against immigrants at all, I work with quite a few immigrants (h1b's). I've also seen them go through the frustrations of becoming citizens, the phone calls, the cost, the paper work, etc. To give amnesty to millions is just a slap in the face of those trying to do it right. I don't even talk about illegal immigration around because the ones working on citizen ship here get even more fired up about it than we do ;) . Nation of laws and all that apple pie.
Alex - I have a problem with children of illegal immigrants - who know no country but the US - being sent "back" to a country that is truly not their country. I would love to stop illegals from coming here and any that are here that are trouble makers - send back. But I have a problem punishing children for something they had no decision in. When they have grown up here and that's all they know - there has to be a way they can become legal citizens through special work.
I have a friend whose husband came here illegally from Poland. They finally got him a lawyer and he is now legal but he puts Mexicans down who are here illegally. I want to scream at him that he is no better but I value my friend so I keep my mouth shut.
TO: Debbie-525743 who wrote:
Republicans were horribly jealous of Democrat President Bill Clinton because he is/was so handsome, so smart, and so well loved all around the world. But African Americans absolutely loved Bill Clinton perhaps the most.
Actually, it was the blacks that called President Clinton "the first black President" because they loved Bill Clinton so much.
To this very day, Bill Clinton's headquarter offices for the Clinton Global Initiative are in Harlem, New York.

THIS IS NOT OVER,IT HAS JUST BEGUN!!! GROW UP and WISE UP! America has had enough of you serving radical out of touch obstructionist BS! You’ll either get the message or stop your political BS this time round or WE (America) will MAKE DAMN SURE you do next time around!
lol, jealous because he's so handsome and smart. You really are a deep deep person, I can tell.
Don't drown in the shallow end there!
@SeekingSanity,
I have a problem with children of illegal immigrants - who know no country but the US - being sent "back" to a country that is truly not their country. I would love to stop illegals from coming here and any that are here that are trouble makers - send back. But I have a problem punishing children for something they had no decision in. To prefix this, I did say that would support a smart dream act that was well written. BUT, as with Reagan's amnesty, the same exact thing will happen with an open ended dream act. You enable all of these children to get citizenship, and all that does is let people from other countries know they can come here with a young child, or have a baby in our borders, and we will give them citizenship. Then you allow our new citizens to bring their families (even though they're here already) and they'll get citizenship.
Somewhere along the way people from other countries need to realize that we are, in fact, a nation of laws. If this doesn't get stopped somewhere, some how, we will be flooded with low to no educated low skill workers who end up on our welfare system. This has nothing to do with being christian, or caring for the poor, or hating other cultures, or racism. It is a flat numbers game.
I'm all for a solution, but it has GOT to be one that WILL be enforced.
Like Russell Pearce, Sheriff Joe went of his rock -- the Birther sh!t should have done him in. He and others like Tea Party fundamentalist Jeff Flake are on notice... the demographics are changing... excellent candidates like Carmona will be back... tick tock...
Maxwell's Silver Hammer -- Yep. If you're Republican you're not necessarily a bigot, but if you're a bigot it's more likely you are a Republican.
Michael L.
What did you read? Where is yor list of people who switched parties an why?
You couldn't have looked up, so I took some time to look this up.
The Republican party was formed with one of its tenents was to contest slavery. It was formed by part of the whig party and democrats who left the democrat party because it was pro slave.
Republicans swept south to take over the statehouses and worked to get the slaves integrated into our society as free men. As the Democrats took over, in came the Jim Crow laws that stayed with us until the mid 70's.
It was Abraham Lincoln who tore the Coloreds only signs down in the White House restrooms. It was Woodrow Wilson who put them back. They only came down in 1944 because of public pressure put on Roosevelt to remove them again.
It was Abraham Lincoln who directed that the armed forces be desegregated. It was Woodrow Wilson who reversed it. It was FDR who in 1944, again under pressure from republicans began to desegrate the armed forces.
In 1963, what really changed in the democratic party was they for the first time saw African Americans as a voting block they could win, if they passed civil rights legistlation. Barely 61% of the Democrats voted for it, but Republicans voted 80% for it. If enough republicans wouldn't have voted for it, it never would have passed.
Of the 20 Southern Democrat Senators who voted against the Civil rights Act, only Strom Thurmand became a Republican.
Of the 87 Southern Democrats in the house who voted against the Civil rights act, ZERO Became a Republican. Two who voted in favor switched to Repulican
Through the 60's only 16 People switched from Democrat to Republican. Only 4 appear to be over ideology, the rest just for the opportunity to run for a particular office.
The same goes for the 70's. The only one in any question was Senator Jesse Helms.
Here is a list of what Republicans have done since 1964 in civil rights
The Republicans have never changed, the only thing that seems to matter is the Democrat Folklore.
Here's some other folks who back what I say.
http://blackrepublican.blogspot.com/2012/06/republicans-and-democrats-did-not.html
That's hilarious. Is it fair to say then that you consider Alan West and Herman Cain be be more intelligent, better educated and skilled in the art of governance than Barack Obama?
Republicans want minorities to go away. Ain't gonna happen. Romney's solution was self deportation and we see who got sent away with his tail between his legs. Hint: it wasn't the Hispanic voters.
Thanks for the history lesson, DB.
It's HISTORY. Our current situation is clearly much different.
If Republicans continue to remain in denial about reality, the GOP will become history.
Larry-2260635 #2.18~~Wasn't Strom Thurmond, the hypocrit, who fathered a child with a black woman and kept it secret until a couple of years before he died at the age near 100?
The reason why Texas joined the Union in the first place was because it was broke and needed Uncle Sugar to pay its bills. Look it up.
Yes, Larry, the Repub Party USED to be PROGRESSIVE and had lots of center-right moderates However if you have noticed, it has worked very hard, especially these last 4 years to remove, displace and discredit any and ALL moderates to the point where, frankly, there ARE NO MORE Moderates in the Repub Party.
THAT is the present day reality. The party has been moving farther and farther to the right, throwing any and all moderates under the bus and instead nominating and occasionally electing the TP crazies that are not only bought and paid for by the Koch Bros, Dick Armey, Sheldon Adelson etc. and given their talking points by Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh but are completely clueless to the needs and actual attitudes on MOST subject that Americans care about.
They are NOT the party of yesteryear, when there were good, honorable people, like Snowe, Lugar etc, who were the latest thrown under the TP bus wheels, no, the present party has gone so far off into the wilderness of the right that presently the Dem party covers the entire old spectrum of politics. The Dems are much closer to the Eisenhower Repubs of old, leaving room on the left for an even more progressive party.
The present incarnation of the Repubs have, with all of their division, hatred and total disregard for actual facts, painted themselves into a corner from which there is no return; they have dug their pit and when they realized they were in a hole, they doubled down and dug it much, Much deeper and now they have to live with the fact and lie in their pit filled with hate and loathing all by themselves with, truly, nobody to blame but themselves.
The rest of this Nation is moving ahead, standing behind a proven leader that has gained us the respect of most Nations in the world and kept us from falling into the Second Great Depression DESPITE the Repubs treacherously sabotaging all efforts that he and the Dems made.
Is President Obama perfect, far from it, but he DOES have the faith and trust of the majority of The People, something that the Repubs in general lost and Romney/Ryan in specific never had!
Seeking...first, anyone born here is a U.S. citizen by law. Dream act does not apply. And that included those whose mothers walked across the border, had you pay for the birth of their now American citizen, and then walked back home.
Second, while I feel for those raised here, they have had many opportunities millions of people around the world did not and never will get. They can return to their country origin miles ahead of many that never had their opportunities. That being said, if we give these kids amnesty, please tell me what is the incentive for multitudes more not to do the same thing? Why make things better for your kids in your own country when you can take them across the border, let them live in America a few years and they get amnesty. Once they get amnesty and are citizens, they can then sponsor their parents who can be fast-tracked to citizenship.
hs321, what do you propose we do with young people who were brought here as babies from other countries (I think it's mostly Mexico we're talking about) who are not legal citizens, even though culturally they are Americans? Even thought they have not been educated in Spanish and have no family or place to go, and may face serious hardships proving their Mexican citizenship?
What about the cost to administer and enforce the deportation of millions of people? Is it worth it?
It's a situation that requires careful consideration.
@kaybeetoys,
There is no easy solution as to what to do with the millions of illegals here already. Letting them all become citizens isn't a good idea. That only encourages millions more to come illegally, it disenfranchises those coming here through the correct process, it raises our welfare costs dramatically, it would continue to hurt the low wage job market, etc. Yes, it sounds like I don't care for them as human beings. But we're not talking about a few thousands, we're talking about between 11 - 30 million (pick your website for the number of the day). Every single one of them were consciously aware of what they were doing when they crossed the border, they knew what they were doing wasn't right.
On the other hand, busing that many up and sending them south is not a good plan either. As far as the cost, I would like to see the comparison between busing them south, and the cost to our medical, schools, incarceration, unemployment, and the negative impact they have.
What ever decision is made for those here, the one thing that DOES NEED to be done is locking our border down and disallowing anymore to come over. Also, the anchor baby issue needs to be addressed. The doors need to be locked so that only immigrants coming here correctly are allowed in.
Totally aside from the illegal immigrants, the borders need to be locked down for national security.
The border fence, and enforcement of existing laws. These people come here for economic reasons. If there are too many of them, unable to find enough jobs as fruit picker or hotel maid, they go back. The myth of billions of illegal immigrants living on American welfare is exactly that. A myth. Certainly, there are some of them who do it, but most of them are just here trying to make a living and support their families.
The real reason why we do not give them amnesty is that they are serving the part of second class citizens, dispensable and exploitable people who do the dirtiest jobs, so our fruit and hotel rooms are cheaper than they would be if they were Americans required to be paid minimum wage.
Employers aren't really interested in getting rid of this source of cheap labor, so the business lobby doesn't support amnesty and often opposes it. The American poor see them as competition, so they oppose it too.
The only people in favor are bleeding heart liberals, who have a problem with exploitation of any human being. You know, the politically correct part about "all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights." And, of course, the Latino community, who see the vast majority of these people as their brethren.
The defeat was to the USA as we know it. The takers outnumbered the makers, which is good because when there is no more money to pay for them, they will have to go to work.............But wait..........there will be no jobs for them.
The entire country lost on this one, not the GOP.
Re-electing someone that did absolutely nothing for this country is not a good thing. And what does he do? Schedule a trip, let the victims of Sandy who are still without power, shelter, food, etc be damned? My trip is mmmmmmmmmmuch more important.
But then again, isn't that how he learned to do it the "WRIGHT" way?
Pssst... you forget "Santa Clause"...
Turn off NewsforDumbFux, it's killing whatever brain cells you have remaining!
Obama will get right on that, after his golf outing...
America, you asked for it, now take the lumps and try to learn that 13% unemployment will be the new normal...
Momma Dukes - the US WON on 11/6/2012 - and showed that we have no use for hatred and bigotry in this country. Your stupidity is overwhelming. The red states get the most government help - try to keep up.
The old rant about people getting handout is just so much Republican fodder and lies. A full 95% of those people getting assistance would much rather have jobs and we have to work to create more jobs. But, that means Republicans cannot continue to sit on bills that would help promote job growth.
Ignorance like yours is part of the problem. Open your eyes and try to be part of the solution - not the problem!
Re-electing someone that did absolutely nothing for this country is not a good thing
----------------------------
Really? How about ending the worst recession in 80 years.
Momma and Sirie: Your guy lost. He had nothing to offer that anyone wanted. Get over it. Turn off Faux Noise, and face reality.
These radical right wing posters are something else. I sometimes think that not one of them has ever heard of fact checks. It all boils down to the fact that the right wing base is loaded with so many low information voters that who believe any crap you feed them and they never bother to fact check a thing.
In a nut shell they follow the views of others who do not understand the world around them.
Sour grapes? I love to hear you right wingers wine, it's like music to my ears... cry on...
Re-electing someone who did absolutely nothing good for this country is a very stupid thing - and we all know how stupid all 8 of the bush years was (although I don't think he ever really won an election, cheated his way through - yep, sure of it, but win? naw, that don't just won't hunt). Re-electing President Obama was one of the good things I have seen the American people do in the last century. Re-electing Nixon and Bush, Jr? Not so much.
Actually, President Obama has a GREAT record and the facts back this up and these right wing cult fools continue to root for the failure of America. So un-American.
27 of 32 states that take more than they give are red states.
14 of the 18 states that give more than they receive are blue states.
It is us hard working tax paying Democrats that are supporting you republicon welfare queens.
Go ahead and secede. We will then have a budget surplus!
Red State Socialism | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
if obama didn't do anything how did we get the lilly ledbetter act into law, why were you whining about healthcare reform.......and so on.
Sirie, I thought you were leaving...or at least that was what I read. I never bothered to put you on ignore because I thought you were ineffectual but now I will because you are annoying.
I believe that you are really this stupid.
Momma Dukes,
The basic idea of democracy is that the majority wins, not whoever thinks they know better than everyone else. The majority definitely won this election, and now the minority is crying. Remember when George W. Bush stole (I mean won) the presidency in 2000? Gore had MORE votes than Bush. Bush sued to stop counting votes in Florida (still a problem state regarding counting votes), and therefore won the electoral college vote. Even after that, the republicans called people who questioned it "sore losers", etc. Well here goes:
SORE LOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romney/Ryan is now Romney/Cryin'
Momma Dukes-
Not even close.
Apparently you don't understand the term "MAJORITY".
Most of the "takers" live in RED states, i.e. Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, West Virginia.
A Romney administration would have seen a rise in unemployment because they wanted LOWER wages and American's fighting Americans for jobs.
President Obama's policies have IMPROVED our economic situation greatly.
Please, for God's sake. Start thinking for yourself.
It's a Brand New Day!
Stop blaming Democrats like Rush and Hannity want you to, and start empowering yourself with the TRUTH.
Salud
Don't Care-
I think Sirie is still trying to sway undecided voters.

Momma Dukes - Here's a quote and it is true: The line between "making" and "taking" is not a racial line. The biggest government program we have, Medicare, benefits a population that is 85% white.
Those are the same white people that voted for Romney. According to the repubs, they are the "takers", but blame those that voted for Obama. Sad that you ignore the truth.
Mamma Dukes . . . why do republitards just assume a democrat is on welfare? Im a very educated voter, very responsible, huge salary. . . I just dont beleive that cutting taxes creates jobs . . .show me.
The Republican party of no education, no science, no taxes and no fair play will drive the nation out of business. As the rich keep getting richer and richer at the expense of the middle class, there will be no population with enough money to support the demand that keeps a capitalist economy humming along.
A falling tide lowers all ships. The rich care naught for the state of the nation that they will leave to their descendents - A dollar for themselves today is to be more desired than any investment in the future well-being of the country.
Jimm#s - "Really? How about ending the worst recession in 80 years."
The recession ended in June 2009 (six months after Obama took office). What specific policy(ies) ended the recession?
We are not a democracy, we are a republic. Read about the difference and you will understand why the minority should still have a voice. You dont have to like it or agree with it, but the minority still needs a voice.
Oh, Lordy, "momma dukes"....Cry me a river...
Which is EXACTLY the lesson we learned from BushII...which is EXACTLY why the Republicans have a slim to none chance of being in the White House before the party becomes extinct.
Independent thought is a wonderful thing, "momma"...and you will need all of it that you can get when you have to form one of your new political parties...
I still believe the GOP will review the reasons it was crushed in this election and it will come to the inevitable conclusion that the right wing lunatic fringe is a ball and chain that is dragging it down. Whether the Republican Party has the cojones to act on that fact is open to speculation, but until the Party of Lincoln decides to shift its ideological flag closer to the center and accept Latinos as partners in its future while at the same time unloading the ultra-conservative crazies it now clings to, it will continue to lose national elections. Furthermore, in not too many more election cycles, red states such as Arizona and Texas will slowly turn into True Blue states and even local elections across the country will go against them until the GOP is marginalized out of existence. The choice is clear for the GOP: moderation or extinction!
The Republican Party needs to do the following:
1) Wake up to the fact that the 1950's are over. We are in the 21st century. The US is no longer majority white, majority male. The US is getting browner. Deal with it. Women are a force to be reckoned with. Deal with it.
2) Be inclusive, not exclusive. It's no longer viable to be a party for angry old white men
3) Become more centrist and more moderate. As long as the hard-right and the Tea Party are allowed to set the agenda, the party will continue to lose national elections. In fact, it will become extinct, and it will be their own doing if it does.
4) Select better candidates, both nationally and locally. Romney and Ryan were the best they could do? Todd Akin was the best they could do? Richard Mourdock was the best they could do? Lets not forget Michelle Bachmann, Joe Walsh and Allen West. If people like these people are the best candidates the Republican Party can come up with, the party may be doomed any.
5) Get better leadership in Congress. Your stated goal was to make sure President Obama was a one-term president. How did that plan work out? Speaker Boehner is weak and is willing to be lead around by the nose by his caucus. Eric Cantor wants Boehner's position so badly he can taste it, and will doing anything and everything to make himself look good and Boehner look bad.
6) Quit relying on such people as Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly or Fox News (an oxymoron if ever there was one) for factual information. They are niche marketers and that's all they are. Their appeal is to the lowest common denominator. As long as people like these are allowed to define the Republican brand, Republicans will be seen as a bunch of ignorant fools.
TO: Sailcat-2064101 who wrote:
Not only that, but Mitch McConnell announcing in 2008 that he'd try to force failure on the President of the United States, and therefore the American People, was one of the most traitorist acts I have ever seen! And then he actually did it! McConnell got this "failure" mantra going, and all this other "wacko" B.S.!
Mitch McConnel STILL isn't man enough to respect the United States of America, the American People, or our election process.
I think poor leaders like Mitch McConnell are the fools who give the wackos the idea that trying to harm the United States and/or the American People somehow furthers the Republican agenda.
smartliberal1
Have you ever heard the term democratic-republic? Not all republics are democracies but these days all democracies are also republics. A republic is where people represent an area of the population in the government because it is impractical for everyone in the population cannot be at the capitol all the time. Those representatives may be elected by those they will represent or they could be appointed or elected by a committee (Soviet Union) or a certain individual (Hugo Chavez). The USA is the first democratic-republic. It was a new way of thinking, really liberal in its day. In Great Britain only the House of Commons is elected by the population where nobles suggest the appointment of the House of Lords to the monarch who appoints them. Countries patterened after the US (Mexico, Liberia are two examples) who hae bicameral legislatures have both houses elected by the people. British influened governments go either way. The Ausies and Canucks and India elect both houses making them also democrati-republics just like the US and the British. In The People's Republic of China representatives are "elected" by members of the Communist party. The average person who they represent are hardly allowd to freely elect their representatives. Most governments today are republics but not all are democratic-republics like the US.
If they did, there was only one reason for that! George W. Bush converted soooo many makers into takers when he trashed the US economy!
Make sure you thank him!
50,000 Latinos turn 18 everyday. Of course most of there parents were not born here do you really thing they want to hear your dog whistle racial hatred and bigotry on FAUX NOISE or hate radio or read hateful comments on blog posts? Hell No and the majority of Americans are with them. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.

TomasGrande - "President Obama's policies have IMPROVED our economic situation greatly."
If you mean still having an unemployment rate of 8% after 4 years, losing our triple A bond rating due to poor economic policy, and increasing the national debt by 200% when Pelosi and her ilk along with Obama had control of the House, Senate, and the Presidency.
I guess I would have to agree with you...
What do they not understand about Women who believe that their vaginas are by invitation only? This is not rocket science ... Oh, science.
Yeah just ask the CIA Director he had two invites from two different women.
He was merely showing that the repuke party is not the party of "family values" that they claim they are. I'm sure that the House won't grill the former director too harshly because he is a republican after all. It's always the ones who protest the loudest that get caught with their pants down.
Republicans made it very very clear that they do not believe in nor support science in America. They believe the world is only a few thousand years old, deny climate change, deny any science that does not support a literal belief in ancient tribal documents (which is to say all science), and generally rant against well educated people in general. Now their current thesis after their defeat is that they "were not Conservative enough" LOL. Epic fail - you get an F. Again.
@bloggit: Crushed? No, trounced is more like it. 61% to 38% win in Electoral vote, 51% to 49% in popular vote, defeated on almost EVERY issue they fought on - Abortion, Immigration, Gay Marriage, Tax increase - you name it and they lost it......oh yes. They were brutally routed.
It was a HUGE mandate.
Why are we still talking about the election? We all know the repubics got spanked so what gives? The hot story now is the CIA director spanking the ass of two women at the same time and not paying attention to the threats in Benghazi. If you are smokin that much ass how can do a good job as the CIA director.
Oh, thank God. I've been missing Benghazi. What a HUGE SCANDAL! Boy, it REALLY affected the outcome of the election...
The sinking repukes had to have at least one straw to grasp at.
Capt Smash: " If you are smokin that much ass how can do a good job as the CIA director."
Jealous????
WOW...you are really stuck on Benghazi. Horribly, four people were killed half way around the world in a place of severe unrest.
9-11 HAPPENED under GEORGIE BOYS watch and 3000 were killed on AMERICAN SOIL...let me repeat....over 3000 KILLED ON AMERICAN SOIL. Where was your OUTRAGE and INVESTIGATIONS THEN?
PHUCKING HYPOCRITE!!!!
The right-wing pundits go on the air every day and talk about how THEIR views represent the majority of Americans, and how we are a center/right country. They took their lesson from the Bush administration - if you say something often enough and vehemently enough, it's taken as gospel.
The main-stream media has bought into this to some extent, but apparently the majority of voters - in this election anyway- did not. Yeah voters!!!!
Their real problem is that they began drinking their own kool-aid. You can't win an election if you ignore reality, and the reality is that the electorate at large isn't as hateful as the christo-taliban core of the GOP.
I think we are a right of center country. The Republican Party just forgot where the center is.
They think the center is in Ubekibekibekistanstan!!
Ain't that sum-whars in Tex-ass???
I think it is somewhere at the end of the flat earth.
Goes to show you people are smarter and recognize when someone is pushing there agenda to have the few view point on the many.
never read so many ugly, vicious comments. it comes off very defensive and desperate. you know obama is a terrible leader and it shows.
Actually "kiki"...It shows how horribly pathetic your little Miss Mittsy was if he could lose the election to what you refer to a a "terrible" leader.
As far as "ugly, vicious" comments go, you need to clean up your team's house before you go pointing your bitter little finger elsewhere. Start by condemning the liar on your side. That should keep you busy for a couple of years...
Boo hoo...poor wittle kiki's Mittsy wost the ewection....sniff sniff...
What I want to see is this: For ALL the millions and millions of dollars, the super-rich contributors to the almighty GOP super-pacs; Karl Rove, Adelson, the Koch brothers and the likes...How much are they NOW willing to donate to the thousands of residents in New York and New Jersey that are now homeless due to the infamous superstorm, "Sandy"??? Are they willing to right a check which may save the sanity and lives of their fellow americans?? Or is this money reserved only to challenge a Black President and the Democratic persuasion, which currently, seems to dominate in our country ???? ummmmmmmmm.
My bet is not one penny will they give to help their fellow Americans. Not one red cent.
Gop contributors helping Americans in need? Koch brothers?
LOL!
Never gonna happen.
Jo Anne Weathers you are asking the wrong people! Why don't you ask the Hollywood crowd who helped put Barack Obama back in office? Bruce Springsteen was right there on stage with Barack and he even LIVES in NEW JERSEY!! Where is he now?? Why can't the rock stars and the movie stars put their money where their mouth is? Why is it suddenly the Koch Brothers responsibility or that of Karl Rove? There are a lot of Hollywood stars from New York or New Jersey, where are THEY? Why aren't THEY walking amongst all the muck and the people?? Why is this suddenly the Republican's responsiblity?
You IDIOTS won the election? Where is Obama? Where is Biden? Where is Pelosi? Where is that dipchit of yours Sen. Harry Reid? They should all be walking the beach with that big fat rhino governor Chris Christie..................you guys WON, so now all you DEMOCRAPS have to own up to YOUR responsiblities!!!
From what I keep hearing on TV and on these blogs, you keep telling the Republicans to go home whitey, get out of our way, yada yada to boredom..........so get with the program you democrap morons and that goes for some of the celebrities that support you. Bruce Springsteen of all people should be doing more than doing photo-ops with our Muslim President Barack.
Of course the celebrities don't give one rat's ass about you east coast entrenched democraps! They just want the publicity you idiots! And you think they really care about you................STUPID FOOLS!
Umm, didn't they just raise $23 million for Sandy survivors?
romancaesar - oh you sooooo asked the wrong question. Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, etc., helped with a fundraiser 3 days after Sandy hit. Each of them has contributed hundreds of thousands dollars to the relief efforts there. And, moron, Bon Jovi was in New Jersey - in one of the hardest hit areas - to see the devastation first-hand and determine how he could best help.
Also the hollywood types you mention are usually the first to step up and help raise funds as well as give their own when there is any natural disaster. In addition, each of them has charitable programs that go on even when their is no disaster - to help those who have less.
So, let's see, if we're going to label anyone a stupid FOOL - it would clearly be YOU!
George Clooney and Darfur, roman, your contempt is misplaced.
romancheeser-God I love the sound of Republican losers like yourself whining like you got your ass whipped (You DO remember that it was real and not just a dream, right?) again, it's like smelling Napalm in the morning dew!!
But then, to solidify the fact that you are brain-dead, you whine about all of the celebrities not doing anything, BUT are too stupid to realize you stuck your foot in your mouth again.
Man, it's hard to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man!!
They haven't done so in the past why would those crooks start now? They were trying to buy an election not look out for their fellow countrymen/women. Adelson was looking for Mittens to shield him from prosecution for running brothels in Asia, the Kochs were looking to make every wage earner a slave.
They invested a few million to save hundreds of millions in taxes. It would have been an excellent return on investment (ROI) if they had won. They only care about their money - and wrapping it up in patriotic clothing did not fool anyone this time around.
romancaesar-
Now that the Governor has lost, all of his constituents are hoping the entire country crashes and burns.
How increadibly selfish and sad.
I guess "One Nation, under God..." means nothing to them.
I guess the United States of America means nothing to them.
They simply loathe the idea of a Democrat President being successfull and beloved.
Faux, Rush, and the rest of the right-wing media has pounded into the heads of people like romancaesar that America is only ment for Republican ideas, and Republican morals, and Republicans values.
People like romancaesar only think America is about them.
This just shows you how much damage Faux, Rush, and the RW media has done to this great country over the last 20 years.

EXCELLENT QUESTION! It wasn't just "millions" -- it was BILLIONS! And they cry over the deficit? Welfare, Food Stamps, etc? PUHLEEEZE! Let's see some of their billions go to the deficit and help to create jobs and stimulate the US economy. Don't hold your breath.
They'll skip off to the Cayman Islands screaming about how bad Obama is while they bankrupt their USA companies, reaping record profits from tax loopholes and corporate welfare instead of investing in this great nation!
Tomas Grande: SALUD! ;^)
Last I heard, dollars for Koch's was considered prostitution.
What is frustrating to me about all of these "comments" on this particularly left leaning website (and others that I read), is that EVERYONE on here seems to lump everyone else into an all-or-none category, no matter their political leanings. The name calling is immature and atrocious. It is as if you guys are either still in high school or have never learned how to debate and discuss in a healthy manner. So many emotional words and very little backed up by facts. No wonder so many people were divided over this election. What happened to civility?
I specifically am citing the line above where you state we (Republicans) "simply loathe the idea of a Democratic president being successful and beloved"
There are no "republican morals" or "democratic morals" there are only morals or lack there of. Morality is not defined by politics.
I am a Republican and I voted for Clinton. I could care less who our president is, as long as they (and Congress) don't run the country into the ground. I did not vote for Bush in the second term. Mr. Obama specifically said he would cut our deficit in half during his first term. He also said that he would pass universal health care, but that it would not be a mandated tax. Obama, before he was elected said he was for traditional marriage and then "evolved" conveniently just before the election to be also for gay marriage. People on this blog talk about Mr. Romney "flip flopping" but Obama was just as guilty of the same charges.
My company just raised our insurance premiums 900% and increased our deductibles by 500%. the 2013 tax code states that medical claims above 10% (instead of 7.5%) of income will be deductible I have been told by my company that I can't refuse the policy and remain a full time employee. Tell me how that is fair?
I rarely, if ever, watch Fox News or Rush.... I get my news and information from multiple sources so I can can get accurate information. I could say the same thing about "Democrats" who only read Huffington or the NY Times or MSNBC.... That the "left wing media" has brought morality to it's knees.
Look up "priests for life" if you would like to see the effects of abortion.
To do list:
Romancheeser: ignore.
Redhairedkaty: ignore.
redhairedkaty - at least make your post believable. No one raised your health insurance 900% and your deductible 500%. When you make up that kind of nonsense why would anyone take you seriously? Actually my insurance has gone down. However, since ACA doesn't kick in until 2014 - I know the figures I see today will not be the same in 2014. But, since my insurance has steadly gone up over the years, a decrease is nice!
Your "left wing media has brought morality to it's knees) says everything about your ignorance.
redhairedkaty, President Obama was depending on the Repubs to actually work for ALL of their People, not to intentionally and completely obstruct and/or negotiate in bad faith. He though that since we are all Americans that the Repubs would actually pay attention to their oaths of office and do the right things for the American Populace.
He figured wrong since the Repubs went on a scorched earth, say NO to everything that President Obama backed and tried to make him a one term President hoping that The People did not see this happening.
Well, the Repubs figured wrong as well, the Public was actually watching closely, and no matter the bubble that the Repubs had blown for themselves and lived in exclusively. The People overwhelmingly voted against them, giving Pres. Obama a second term, picking up seats in both the House and the Senate and completely repudiating the platform of hate, division, lies and obstruction that they SAW the Repubs acting on, no matter what the Repubs SAID, we SAW it all, in living color, captured on digital 'film', and so the Repubs are now licking their wounds and trying to figure out how to be relevant in today's world.
The Repubs threw morality out the window, and with it, they threw away any chance at the Presidency and are far along the curve towards total irrelevancy. If they cannot change then they will go the way of the Whigs, the Dodo Bird and the Dinosaurs....EXTINCT!
It is so amusing to read high level Republicans and pundits state, with absolute assurance, that they didn't lose on the message, but just poorly delivered the message. But if they only do what they are already doing harder, they will win.
Except for gerrymandering, the Republicans would have been swept from control of the House. And their efforts at voter suppression (i.e. barriers to voting, like photo ID) backfired on them. Seems like the only actual reported election fraud (illegal voting) that has come to light has been by registered Republican voters.
Glad you mentioned gerrymandering. Check out the federal voting districts for South Carolina - republican gerrymandering at its best. We have a republican governor, republican controlled legislature, 2 republican senators and all but one representative is republican. Yet we have the poorest schools in the country, highest rate of unemployment, poorest health care, roads in terrible shape, etc, etc.
Let them continue to believe that. Let them continue to take that same message to the polls for 2014 and 2016. Let them get crushed yet again at the ballot box.
The best thing Democrats can do right now to ensure their electoral dominance for the next 20 years is to keep quiet and let the GOP self destruct.
Just proves that all of their anti -voter fraud attempts were just more projection from the right. The only ones caught cheating were repukes, everytime. Those old Carl Rove antics from 12 years ago don't work anymore.
Jeroc: Don't forget that 3.8 million South Carolinians just had their SS numbers and Credit/Debit card numbers & bank accounts (if you paid taxes or received a direct deposit) hacked from the SC Dept of Rev!
largest data breach in history for a state. "It's a GREAT day in South Carolina!". Yeah, right, Nikki Haley, a great day. sure.
Republicans stand for racist clown policies...who knew
Our sales rep. here at work is soooooooo racist he saids he will not ever date a woman who at one time dated a black man. He also saids that Obama is communist cause too much government, yet his mother is in a nursing home and guess what....the government pays for it, and low and behold he is a republican. Who would have guessed?
Fisting Redhead...how much more racist can you get...seriously "brown"? Are you from the 1930's or what. So when you are not posting, it is Sp*c? Why is skin color so important to you...you have a mulatto president, does that bother you that he is not white? Step into the 21st Century Wallace!
You ask someone if they are from the 1930's amd then use the outdated racist term of "mulatto". WOW, get a clue! It is you who has not stepped into the 21st century. Did you really just use the term mulatto? WOW
bob - Does that bother you that the President is not white?
The term "mulatto" is very outdated. It was meant to be an insult towards children and adults whose mothers had been raped by white men to suggest that they were like mules or hybrids. What they turned out to be were the children of rapists plain and simple. Even their saint Strom Thurmond got in on the action when he was raping a teenaged girl working in his parents home when he was in his twenties.
"bob"...why are you using the "reverse racism" defense that was invented by the KKK?...And then you use the highly offense term "mulatto"? You have exposed yourself as highly ignorant, at best....at the worst, you are a blatant racist.
Which one is it, "bob"?
Feisty was dumbing it down for you, um, good ol' boys.....
Chris (and the rest of you bigots...), try to finish high school before you try to speak intelligently next time Mulatto has nothing to do with a negative connotation, whereas Fisting Redheads is exactly that. "BROWN" being used to classify a Cuban American...where is your synthetic outrage to that you hypocrites!!!
Chris...go back and finish your education please.
Webster's dictionary defines "Mulatto" as:
mu·lat·to
noun \mə-ˈla-(ˌ)tō, mu̇-, myu̇-, -ˈlä-\
plural mu·lat·toes or mu·lat·tos
Definition of MULATTO
1: the first-generation offspring of a black person and a white person
2: a person of mixed white and black ancestry
And you think that is worse than Fisting's Brown comment? Oh, that's right, the left gets a pass on those.
I find it amazing that true racists like Bob just can NOT hide their hatred. They seem to be such great liars when it comes to everything else. It has to be an inbred, raging emotions thing they just can't supress.
Apparently, if the word is defined in Webster's, then it can not be considered offensive in "bob"'s world.
I say we all pull out our Webster's and come up with a few defined words for "bob"...
Bob serves as an example of the sort of people who are dragging the GOP down. Until they scrape the crazies and racists of the far right off its shoe, the Republican Party will continue to lose national elections.
I find it interesting to have you ignore Fisting Redheads use of the work "Brown" to describe Hispanics...you are just like the media..see only what you want to see.
I'm waitng shocked...bet you had trouble finding any words in a dictionary when you don't know what one is.
Well "bob"...I find it interesting that you are using tactics invented by the KKK. (by the way....are you trying to hide the fact that Marco Rubio's skin color is brown? What color do you call it in aryan-land, "bob"?)
Oh...I was incorrect...
There's nothing interesting about you, "bob".
shWell "shockinglydisgusting"....are you trying to hide the fact that Hussein's skin is not black? That is because he is mulatto whick is half black/half white - just a fact, nothing racist about it. What skinhead group do you belong to anyway. When you get off work at Wallmart, check the dictionary.
I got a check notice today from my company, because of obama care. They were bitching it was bad, but look it's good. One thing obamacare does, if insurance companies overcharge, more than 85%, they have to return the money to the insured, us. That's why I like Obama, he's the man.
And when hospitals kick up their costs and your insurance goes up 50%, who will you say is the man then?
when insurance co. kick up their costs you leave them and go to Obama care, soon insurance co. will have to do something to stay in business if they want to stay in the game. Insurance co. rates are already too much and someone has to put them in their place.
Bookem' Danno - actually the ACA will stop hospitals from kicking up costs for no reason and they have to show that they are using their money the way it is intended - instead of wasting it. Costs won't go up 50% - they should come down with more people insured. As it is, everyone pays higher costs to cover the uninsured.
Hank....the only reason the Repugs kept saying it was bad was because that's what big insurance told them to say to try to get the general public to support its repeal. In truth, the only bad thing about Obamacare (the ACA) was that the Repugs succeeded in forcing out the single payer provision. Imagine if we had that? Like employer health insurance, but with the whole country paying into the same insurer. Like Medicare for all ages. And totally non-profit and honest. Totally affordable for most people, plus covering the poorest of the poor. No gouging, no denial of benefits by claiming pre-existing conditions or the drug is "experimental" or you've reached the limit of what THEY determine they want to pay, etc., no Insurance company already making billions upon billions in profit arbitrarily deciding they need even MORE profit every year. People would have flocked to it. It would have put Big Insurance companies out of business within two years. That's why they ordered the Repugs they own to fight it. And of course, rather than do something that would have benefitted the people, the politicians did what would benefit the biggest source of their campaign funds. It would have totally solved the biggest actual problem of healthcare in this country, which is not the cost of medicine, treatment and hospitals (which are the finest in the world) but the cost of insurance, which we must have. 98% of the people are not rich enough to financially survive a sudden, devastating illness.
Now someone will come on spouting Big Insurance's scare-tactic keyword, "socialism". What Repugs fear most! Scream "socialism" and they will run for cover under the nearest rock, or do whatever their masters tell them. To me, socialism just means society taking care of the more unfortunate of their brothers and sisters. I will never argue against that.
Stop whining you republican mitches.
Obamacare will not fix rising costs nor is it its own insurance entity. It is a way to get more people insured. If you do not have insurance, the government will tax you. You will then be forced to pick a policy from private entities or pay the non compliance penalty.
I had this exact same discussion with a repub friend of mine. He cant figure out what happened. He bet me Romney was going to run away with the election with over 300 electoral votes.
The morning after the election I texted him to see how his morning was going. He replied that for the 2016 elections women and minorities arent allowed to vote. He was joking of course but at leats he realizes where they got beat.
@Dandy - And all those minorities and others in Ohio who receive entitlements and voted for Obama got a wake-up call this morning when (if) they read the papers. Their saviour is going to take good care of them, yeah right! Well, he got their vote and now he's showing them what was on his agenda all the time if he was re-elected. Good going, everyone! I hope you have a nice day and I you didn't throw away your crying towels. www.toledoblade.com/State/2012/11/12/ohioans-food-stamp.
When the GOP learns to stick to economics and stay out of people bodies and bedrooms they MIGHT have a better chance of winning. Personally, I hope they don't. They have been taken over by the nut case right wing of the christian taliban. They fully got what they deserved in the election.
And as for states that supposedly want to leave the secede, please, GO! We can build a fence, not around Mexico, around the red states.
The GOP used to be a rational party, then it made an unholy alliance with the christo taliban. Until it purges the religious elements, the GOP is going to continue to try to regulate the lives of others (that's what religions do, after all), and it is going to keep losing national elections. The demographic trends are against it.
And do you have any idea why they can't see the blatantly obvious?
I haven't understood it for several elections now.
They are too blinded by hatred and ignorance which is fully provided by fake news and the conservative entertainment complex.
The REAL shame from the impact of the Christian Right is that not only have they turned people off of the Republican Party, but they have also turned people off from true Christianity. Unaffiliateds are now the largest block of religiosity, and the same nut cases are responsible for the fall of both. Christians (of which I am one) need to flush the fundamentalist nuts from our ranks, just as Republicans need to flush them from their ranks or we'll continue to go down in flames together.
I find it interesting that people who have most likely never been anywhere in this world where there really are no laws want to secede from the USA. They don't have an idea what life is like there. Go to poor parts in india or china and then tell me how great the USA is. Stop wining.
There's no question that tax rates on the wealthiest Americans need to go right back to what they were in the closing days of the Clinton administration. Actually, that move is many years overdue, as it should have been done immediately when George "Wrong-way" Bush decided to fight two expensive land wars simultaneously. As far as all the social issues like women's rights and immigration and so forth, the GOP needs to take a hint from the Libertarian party. No one except the American Christian Taliban wants the government deeply involved in those social issues! It's enough to provide for the common defense and general welfare.
As long as the uber-conservative tea party controls the GOP thought processes, these issues will continue to haunt the republicans. It appears that common sense and compassion do not co-exist for "those people".
Republican Party = The Stupid Party
Black vote went 90% to dems. Hispanics went 71% for dems. They forgot to tell you that the white vote fell to 39% for dems. Whites are still 69% of the electorate. As the country continues to spiral towards 3rd world oblivion at the hands of leftist loons the white percentage for dems will continue to drop. Dems like ethnic politics so much. Wait till their percentage of the white vote drops to 10%. We own the house and have 45 senators in the senate. Takes 41 to block judges and legislation. Block the whole Ostumbler agenda. Card check- No. Leftist judges-no. Cap and trade-no. Money for Obamacare-no. Illegal alien amnesty-hell no. Fiscal cliff. too bad. Defense cuts- so what. Enough of Afghan. Eat @!$%#. Want anything done? Kiss our ass.
Sore loser?
You sound like a ranting, nonsensical white supremacist.
And our debt wandered into the trillions way back with Reagan so your assertion that the dem's made it this way is silly.
Just accept it - you small minded bigotry was voted out. You lost seats in the House. You lost seats in the senate. You lost the presidency. Game over.
leftsux - you're wrong. As the pale, male, stale voters of the Republican party die off the GOP will lose most of it's "white" voters. The Democrats and Independents will continue to attract the intelligent white voters and the GOP will become even less relevant.
Oh, and the GOP lost seats in both the house and senate this time around. They will lost massive numbers in 2014 if they don't work to get things done for the country!
Things will get done over the next 2 years - in spite of YOUR stupidity because many in the Republican party can actually read the writing on the wall.
leftsux Why so pissed-off. Your foaming at the mouth. Your like a rabid dog. But thanks for the laugh.
You lost but hey why listen to the people? YOU are exactly what is wrong with this country but you know what? I love it, I hope all the repubds do is say no to everything. Then in 2014 the Congress will go Democratic and you can all move to Canada like you have been promising to do for four years!
and the rivers overflow with the salty goodness of racist douchebag tears....
President Obama got the same percentage of the white vote as Bill Clinton did in 1992. Actually, more white people voted for President Obama, percentage-wise, then voted for Carter, McGovern and Mondale.
It isn't so much that white people don't support Democratic candidates, as it is that minority voters do not support Republicans.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=1773223
lmao. Another repiglican KKK member.
Actually white women voted mostly for Obama. And the entire country is becoming more moderate.
The repiglican attacks on women, gays, unions, minorities, the elderly, the poor, etc...don't play well with ANYONE including white voters.
Of course, minority voters vote Democratic. Its not about Obama's skin color..they voted for Clinton and Kerry too. Why? Because the GOP is a racist party...period.
Please keep up your crap and when you lose the next election, please whine just as much.
I find it so incredibly entertaining to watching you losers get fuxed. Its awesome!!! You sooo f'ing deserve it.
Dan:
Canada hates racists. Repiglicans should head to Saudi Arabia...they'll fit in perfectly there.
OK, bear with me. Why is Robert DeNiro, for example, considered a white person, but George Lopez is non-white? I mean, to me, one is an Italian-American and one is Mexican-American, and these are ethnicities, but not exactly racial categories.
And why do I have to be in the same category as Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and Ann Coulter? Surely we aren't the same race, although our ancestors migrated from the same regions. I want to belong to whatever group President Obama falls into. Maybe I'm "mixed" because my skin is white, but I'm also a Democrat.
That's why your ignorant asses will continue to lose elections.
Here's a quote and it is true: The line between "making" and "taking" is not a racial line. The biggest government program we have, Medicare, benefits a population that is 85% white.
Those are the same white people that voted for Romney. According to the repubs, they are the "takers", but blame those that voted for Obama. Sad that you ignore the truth.
Poor little "leftsux"...I guess that's what it sounds like when a skinhead gets his scalp nicked with the clippers (note to future aryans: never let your inbred "girl"friend shave your head while snortin' the meth...).
Just cover it with a band-aid and a white sheet, "leftsux"...
There isn't going to be any place left for these racist pigs, except Newt's moon colony.....go Newt!!!!!
Making the moon even whiter...It might be pretty...
Do you think we should tell them about the oxygen?
Shockedanddisgusted - now let's not go screwing up the moon. It's done nothing to us!
Oh..OK, Seeking...you're right. A bunch of skinheads bouncing around in lesser gravity would make the whole thing look like a giant disco ball....which might be cool every other Saturday night, but, yeah...it would get old on a nightly basis.
The white vote will drop to 49% in the year 2050. I will be old but the white vote will be irrelevant and the racist party will be dead.
Memo to all republican politicians:
Stop listening to Limbaugh and FOX.. They lie. Come out of their fantasy to reality. They continue to lie today. Stop listening to Grover. He is a liar too!
Memo to all republican politicians:
Keep listening to drug addicts errr I mean Limbaugh and Fox News. Let the conservative entertainment media drive your policies.
I mean, It's work so well for you guy! Bwaaaahahahahahahaha.
Sorry LAR 42. Let them keep doing what they have been doing.
This country needs two (or more) vibrant political parties. Living in NJ, I see what happens when EITHER party develops a perpetual majority at either the town or country level. Corruption, cronyism, lack of responsiveness to the needs of the people. If the GOP self-destructs, which it will happen if it continues to insist that all it needs to do is become MORE conservative, the country will be worse off.
Mama Dukes....Although Fiesty and the rest will just lambast you I must concur America lost not because we re-elected the president but rather because the MATH never lies. we are already done as a country.
Kinda the like the math that showed there was NO way Mitt's policies could do what he said they would and then the math that added togther the majority of the popular vote and the electorial college to trounce Mitt? Did you mean that math? Because you are right, it doesn't lie. By the way, you want a little cheese with that whine?
Already done? Are you speaking in terms of racial ethnicity or political influence?
"bullet"...you have to know how to DO math before you can judge whether or not math lies.
Did you wrap yourself in a flag while you were writing that?
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir showed up at the White House for the victory celebration concert. Michelle told them "not this year.".
And not the next year, or the next or the next or the next....etc.
The real reason Mitt Romney lost was not the issues, it was that he JUST DID NOT GET IT and came across as some social elitist.
Wrong. According to Grover, Mitt lost because Obama called Mitt a Poopy pants. What happens when you crap your pants while sporting magic underwear?
Republicans got crushed by the Obama news media! The US mainstream news media is less honest than China's new media. The US mainstream news media covers up more administration corruption and incompetence than China's media. That should bother people! How did the US media become so corrupt? Who is supporting the corruption? Why is the media liberal biased? Is there an attempt by the media to destroy America?
How about you right wingers get a new song to sing. The libral media cry is so rediculous that any sane American outside of FoxNews just rolls thier eyes when you sing that tired old ditty. I bet you are wearing a tin foil hat at this very moment.
Here's a concept... The red states all complain about excessive government spending on frills like social security, medicare, medicaid, etc. Let them opt out; let them off the hook for paying it, but cut off all payments to them too. Or let them secede; once all the US defense plants and military bases leave 'foreign soil', in many of these states all that will be left is redneck farmers. The smart ones will (in the words of Ronnie Raygun) 'vote with their feet' and what's left can sink further into the ignorance they seem to want...
ya that's it let gay illegal immigrants become legal gay immigrants so they can have legal abortions
Lar 42 is that protest still going on in bengazhi over that video ?
1hnstchicpol - okay you do realize your post makes you look like your IQ is around 50, right? I thought maybe people would begin to see their ignorance has no place in this country but you show ignorance is all you possess!
Seeking dear ... You put WAYYYY to much faith in today's conservative party...
1hnstchicpol ya thats's it let gay illegal immgrants become legal gay immigrants so they can have legal abortions.
Wow your sure on top of stuff. When did gay people start getting pregnant to have abortions? Some of you people say the funniest things.
NinjaCodeMan - I keep hoping for a miracle but none to be found - right???
Crazy is too kind a description for you but I do apperciate your rhetoric, it just ensure more election victories for the good guys!
50? don't you think that's kinda high?
hs321 - I was being kind. Kinda
Why would gay people have abortions? You really don't have a grasp on the issue of "Gay" do you?
OMFG - HYSTERICAL!! That beats out 'retroactive predictions'!!
Now you guys just hold on a minute! Didn't Mittsy specifically say that gay illegal aliens should self-abort????
(sorry...I couldn't help myself...)
The Republicans had their chance to win with Ron Paul.
Instead, they went with somebody who was considered inferior to John McCain
the first time around.
There was no useful advantage to Romney over Obama.
A vote for Romney was a vote for Obama!
Republicans keep nominating primary runners-up, who end up getting beat.
Romney: Runner up to McCain in 2008
McCain: Runner up to George Bush in 2000
Bob Dole: Runner up to Dukakis in 88
The last Republican runner up to actually win was Bush Sr. in 1992, and he already had the advantage of being VP. Before that it was Reagan (who list to Ford in 76), but then again, even a trained chipmunk could have beaten Carter in 80.
Attention all GOP; The Eagle has landed, and your Party is the white spot beneath the bird..............
Handouts and the promise of more handouts is what won the election for Obama. Nothing Else. He won with even a smaller percentage than he did in 2008. This article is clearly from a left wing nut that is satisfied with the direction of the country.
If I was able to speak directly to the Republican Party, I would tell them to hold fast on their principles.
Anyone notice this article does not really go into the other demographics such as income. Anyone notice that Obama received overwhelmingly the support from those making below $50k annually.
You libtards go ahead and have your hay day. You deserve what you get. Do not come knocking on my door when this country fails and there are no more handouts to handout because we are broke. We are knocking on that door right now. The only way you libs can meet the obligations that you have promised is to gut military spending to the degree that we are 3rd in the world.
Did everybody forget 9/11 that soon. Unbelievable. I am ready,,,,,are you?
"libturds"? lol. how juvenile. You don't want to be taken seriously when you post like that, do you? I hope not. :)
No, titansidewinder, what's unbelieveable is that people like you subscribe to the notion, fed by Fox News and right wing hate mongers like Rush, that the majority who voted are leeched who want handouts.
But facts are facts. And your distorted notion of what happened in this election won't change reality.
Oh, and don't worry - nobody will come knocking on your door.
What principles? The leading ones advancd this election cylcle seemed to be unfettered greed and self-righteous hypocrisy.
If you are an example, emotional maturity isn't one of them.
titansidewinder I want my hand out from your tax dollar. When I go for my hand out I want I from your money.
The promise of handouts won the election for Obama?
Then why did the south not go solid blue?
27 of 32 states that take more than they give are red states.
14 of 18 states that give more than they receive are blue states.
Using your "logic" all of those red states should have voted blue!
Red State Socialism | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Yes, please don't change. Please continue with your homophobia, racism, class-warfare and misogyny.
Hold on to those principles of hatred for America.
Please also keep watching Fux news and keep saying that GW Bush was a great President.
Please keep fronting candidates like Trump, Bachman, Palin, Akin, Mourdock, and Romney.
Please keep believing blowhards like Sean Hannity and Jabba the Rush.
Please keep insulting hard-working Liberals.
Please do nothing different.
I am sooo enjoying listening to repiglicans whine. After putting up with 8 years of watching GW Bush murder people and loot the treasury, it makes me so happy to see these repiglican ditchpigs get exactly what they deserve.
F'ing losers!
I love your ignorant and hateful rhetoric, it lost you the election in 2012 so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep spouting it, it only guarantees us more victories to come!!
titansidewinder - since I and my friends work the person looking for a handout would clearly be you! And, I don't fund ignorance - go ask Mitt!
titansidewinder, of course we are expecting that you will say NO to offers of Social Security and you enjoy paying huge insurance premiums. It is your option but as for the rest of us who aren't as fortunate as you apparently are we don't mind the safety net for ourselves and fellow citizens. You see, we aren't selfish!
OK, titanmoron,
I'm really getting tired of all these doomsday predictions you emptyheads keep making. Now I want you to tell me exactly WHEN each and every one of your Chicken Little fantasies will happen. And then I will bet you $10,000 of Mitt Romney's money that you're wrong on every one of them. And that's $10,000 on each one. Put your money where your big mouth and empty head is.
I sure wish these tea-vangelicals would hurry up and get on with their stupid little "rapture" thing. Weren't they supposed to magically disappear in 2000....and then 2001...('cause they forgot to get the math right...what with the home-schoolin' and all...).
Please stop teasing us and go, already...and then we normal people can get back to running this country like free thinking adults.
Shockedanddisgusted - hate to tell you but it's not gonna happen! But, I'm chuckling at your post.
Damn. Is there any thing we can do to help them?...The Taliban offers up how many virgins in the afterlife?? Can't we tempt their leaders with promises of 10 pounds of meth and 4 male prostitutes?? (would be more, but I'm on a budget)
Hmmm, no mention of the debt.... yeah, squandering more than we have is great.... or gas prices... I LOVE paying twice as much due to Obama's energy policies... or unemployment... we pissed away over a $Trillion a year, but breaking even is wonderful..... let's spin some more... wheeeeeee the bought and paid for media telling you just what you want to hear.....
