It’s been a cliché in politics for the past decade to say that the I-4 Corridor in Florida is a swing area.
“Watch independents in the I-4,” has been a standard refrain from pundits as well as Democrats and Republicans alike, referring to voters along the interstate highway that cuts a swath West to East, from Tampa to North of Orlando.
But it looks like that just does not hold true anymore. Despite what was a tougher year than 2008 for President Obama, he once again ran up the score in the I-4.
The I-4 has changed quite a bit in 20 years. In fact, based on a First Read analysis of the six counties the highway passes through – Hillsborough, Polk, Osceola, Orange, Seminole, and Volusia – the I-4 Corridor has gone from about a 100,000-vote advantage for Republicans to a 100,000-vote advantage for Democrats.
CLICK HERE FOR THE I-4 CORRIDOR COUNTY MARGINS, 1992-2012, TABLE
Even in 2010, a year heavily tilted to Republicans, the losing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink, won the I-4 counties by 15,000 votes.
And it’s all about demographics. In the three counties that have become more Democratic, non-white populations have doubled in a decade.
The place most responsible for the shift is Orange County, which encompasses Orlando. Republicans had a 26,000-vote advantage in the 1992 presidential race and 1,000 in 1996. But Democrats won it by 6,000 in 2000, 1,000 in 2004, and 85,000 and 84,000, respectively, in 2008 and 2012.
What's more, it's shifted even in governor’s races. In 1994 when Democrat Lawton Chiles defeated Jeb Bush, Orange went for Bush by 7,000 votes. In 1998, it was a 38,000-vote GOP advantage. It was 20,000 in 2002 and 2006, but, in 2010, Democrat Sink won it by 30,000.
Hillsborough and Osceola have also moved Democratic. Polk has remained Republican, while Volusia is the only county to trend Republican.
What explains this? Orange is now 55 percent non-white, including 28 percent Hispanic, 22 percent black and 5 percent Asian -- all groups that went overwhelmingly for Obama. In fact, according to the U.S. Census, as of 2010, the Hispanic, black and Asian populations have nearly doubled since a decade ago. There were 242,000 more Latinos (140,000), African Americans (75,000), and Asians (27,000) from 2000. At the same time, there were only 114,000 more whites - a net change of 128,000 non-whites.
Hillsborough is 48 percent non-white (25 percent Latino, 18 percent black, 4 percent Asian). The Latino population increased 70 percent from 2000 to 2010; the black population is up 37 percent; and the Asian population doubled.
Osceola is 65 percent non-white (46 percent Latino, 13 percent black, 3 percent Asian). It's the same demographic story here. The Latino, black, and Asian populations all doubled.
Volusia, on the other hand, is just 25 percent non-white. Polk is 35 percent non-white, and Seminole is 36 percent non-white. Minority growth in these counties was slower than Orange, Hillsborough, and Osceola.

Dennis, Columbus,
Romney lost Colorado, Virginia, Ohio, and Florida by less than 374, 000 votes total...and that total keeps coming down as Florida finishes counting their absentee and provisional ballots
Obama is lucky to still be president it was hardly easy...more luck than anything!

It only means that beating Republicans 4 years from now will be even easier.
It used to make me angry to think that Republicans were incapable of learning, now, it makes me pretty darn happy.
Forward...
THERE'S STILL TIME FOR THE GOP TO TOTALLY SELF DESTRUCT.... THEY'RE NOT QUITE FINISHED YET....As Republicans rebuild their party, keep these things in mind...
1) Keep aligning yourself with big money, corporate interests, and tax favors for those groups. This gives you about 3% right off the bat.
2) Identify yourself as the party of angry white men. (IS Dick Cheney still alive and available to run?) By 2020, even Texas and Arizona will be Democratic, as well as Missouri and Georgia. You'll have trouble cracking the 100 electoral vote mark.
3) People LOVE to have their bodies, sex lives, and religious beliefs legislated and debated.
4) Let the TEA Party (and shrill bitches like Sarah Palin, Rush, and Anne Coulter) help select your candidates. Nasty is attractive.
5) Don't release tax returns, insult 50% of the country early on, and pretend everyone has hired help.
6) Keep putting Mitch McConnell and John Boehner on television. Mitch looks like the dog on Beverly Hillbillies, and John's tan reminds us of all the junkets he's taken.
7) Cover up the fact that your hero, Ayn Rand, died on welfare and medicaid by smoking herself to death.
8) Start a couple of unfunded wars and offer some bank bailouts to reward your donors whenever you get into office. Send the bill to the next President so you can blame him. Voters like that...
9) Listen to Karl Rove's political advice and make sure to sign tax pledges with Grover Norquist so that you can't possibly compromise. EVER. In the corporate world, failure to compromise and job performances this bad usually result in consequences like termination or exile. But keep these idiots around anyway.
10) Make sure you put up the weakest possible slate of candidates in the primary and then have them devour each other, slavishly trying to prove who is the nastiest and most out of touch with reality. Voters LOVE nasty. All those millions on negative ads really paid off...
YEP, FOUR MORE YEARS OUGHT TO FINISH THE GOP OFF FOR GOOD....
doin- you of course KNOW you won't turn this site off, right?
Luck? You think this was luck?
The Obama Campaign gauged the demographics correctly and had the better ground game to actually get their supporters out for the vote. It changed what some pollsters thought would be the actual make-up of the electorate when all the numbers were tallied. If you don't beleive me, maybe you'll believe this gentleman...
Go on thinking this was luck. You have 4 years to figure out that it was otherwise.
Dennis,
Amen brother.
And when Puerto Rico becomes the 51st State there won't be ANY path to the White House for the GOP.
Here are two predictions you can take to the bank right now (and remember I'm 99% so far)
1. The GOP will fight tooth and nail to keep Puerto Rico out of the Union. It will be futile and Puerto Ricans will resent them even more than Hispanic Americans do now.
2. There will be a Spanish Language version of FOX NEWS withing the next six months.
Place your bets ladies and gentlemen, place your bets.
Puerto Rico, a 19th Century prize of the Spanish American War just like Guantanamo, is going to seal the fate of the GOP. The GOP will become the lunatic fringe of American politics, the 21st Century John Birch Society.
VIVA OBAMA! VIVA PUERTO RICO! VIVA ESTADOS UNITAS!
As you can see, I'm pro-Hispanic, pro-Puerto Rico, and Pro-USA!
All obvious trolling aside. ;) You are correct. That's exactly why they lost. Team Obama played a masterful game.
The GOP needs to shed those of ignorance or they will go the way of the Dodo. I honestly hope they reorg and become relevant again. I honestly am not either Democrat nor Republican, I believe both parties have their pluses. But this lesson is strictly for the GOP.

We aren't going anywhere … Republican, Conservative,
Liberal, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, etc.
I think the point lost in all of the statistics about Demographics is none of that would matter without Vison and Policies.
The end result is that Pres. Obama and the Democrats win in demographically diverse areas of the country because of a superior ground game, but none of that would mean anything without a superior vision for the country.
Minorities vote for Pres. Obama not because they are inherently Democrats, but because the policies and core principles of the Democratic party are more in line with their personal values and beliefs.
Democrats didn't just have a better 'micro-targeting' strategy in 2012, we had a better message and a much better messenger.

Feisty...do you group/consider all Republicans to be RWNJ's as you like to call them? Is this simply because they don't agree with all your opinions on all topics?
I don't understand the need to take a shot at other American's in every single post you make.
Anything positive to say or are the 48% of American's who voted for Romney ALL evil people in your eyes? Not every Republican is pro-life or against raising taxes against the rich....I say raise them. I'm pro-choice, but I dont want to see America spend its way down the same road that many countries in Europe are headed.
Your candidate of choice won, no need to continue to take cheap shots at every opportunity...not really leading to any constructive conversation.
I'm sure I will get blasted for this but I'm sick of the nastiness from both sides. Election is over, time to get down to business and get some real problems sorted out. Name calling and cheap shots really get us no where.

From the article above:
And this demographic is only going to grow. Wait until the mid-terms in 2014.
The best thing that could happen in Florida is to fix their horrendous voting problem. Whether it’s ballots or lack of machines, or voting literature, the whole state is like a third world country.
The President said during his acceptance speech “We need to fix that” and he’s’ right. I can only hope the legislature in Florida is just as enthusiastic.

Skip,
United States in Spanish is "Estados Untios"
Note:
Accross the nation, the popular vote was off 10,000,000 for the Democrats and off 3,000,000 for the Republican party.
Obama won by 2,500,000 Votes. In the key states of Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, and Florida (assuming military votes won't be enough to put Romney over the top), Obama won by less than 110,000 votes each.
Although everything you are reading has some value, the bottom line is that both parties need to field better candidates.
Republicans need to nominate someone more conservative because it was one of the Tea Parties (one in Ohio now for certain) did not vote for Romney. That is from someone who left that Ohio Tea Party because a large group of it was Ron Paul supporters who wanted Ron Paul to be the nominee because Romney was not conservative enough.
Obama is fortuneate because indeed an even larger group of his were disillusioned and they too, stayed home.
E. Deboo: The Republican party coddled the Baggers, Dumbdowned, and the racist right wing fringe all for the sake of the 1%er's. Thank god for the Big O.
I'm sure I will get blasted for this but I'm sick of the nastiness from both sides. Election is over, time to get down to business and get some real problems sorted out.
Edeboo agreed. Just as it is wrong to paint all conservatives one way it is wrong to base this site on one liberal's viewpoint posts/actions. Yesterday was tempting to gloat, my guy won decisively. He will win by more than 100 EV and several million popular votes. The destruction on the east coast surely lost him a couple hundred thousand more if not 1/2 million.
I will take Obama's lead and humbly look to work with the other side. Time to turn the page and address real issues. Both parties are needed to solve problems. No, I don't want Obama to bend and lean backwards as he often does when working with the conservatives, I hope they both lean forward. If the leaders of the GOP can corral the Tea Party wing there is a chance for cooperation.
And Dennis, in 2024 we will probably be saying President Elect Julian Castro, eh?
Come on Texas, It's COOL to be BLUE!

and DB, I know you are still lin "Denial" stage; but W 'won' by 542 votes in Florida - and we ALL know many were 'lost', shredded and otherwise not counted, right before the Supremes shut that whole thing down. So quitcher' whinin' and move toward ACCEPTANCE. 110,000 votes is a BFD.
One more thing, I don't have the final turnout numbers yet, but the current party mix was Democrats +6 nationwide. NOT +11 as in so many of the polls people were believing.
The Obama camp left the campaign trail thinking they had narrowly lost the election. Instead they narrowly won.

In another article on NBC, it is the Republicans and the Republican party of Puerto Rico that proposed and got the referendum passed in Puerto Rico.
Furthermore, there are far more Republican Latino & Hispaninc American politicians than in the Democrat party.
That said, I would be more concerned that the once who are voting democrat are more about getting democrat handouts than advancing in a party.

Romney never really embraced the tea party. 3,000,000 of them stayed home. Why on earth do you think the one Tea Party just railed against the "Republican Establishment" for today. They stayed home & I know for a fact ONE of the states that party was in was Ohio.

No, Tomas that is not where that came from. It came from the Obama campaign early tuesday morning to newsmax, but I had found it elsewhere too. In other interviews, they did not claim that they had won but that they were confident they would be "competitive". I.E. the results were in doubt.
To those who say that Texas will be a blue state by 2020 it shows how little you do know - Texas will be the last state to go blue - dems don't like guns and Texans do...plus illegals can't vote if the proper safeguards are in place...while some of the points you bring up are valid - Texas going blue is not one of them.

While I am greatly disapointed with the results of the election I see some positive notes as well.
While many Americans re-elected Obama, the fact that they also re-elected the Republican controlled Congress tells me that they don't completely trust Obama. Keeping Republican control over the check book will keep the Senate and White House liberal policies in line.
Repubs just dont get it. I just watched a bit on Fox and they had several advantaged lovely religious young women talking about how offended they are by the term "War on Women" and how they have control of their bodies (so what is the problem sic) . Scarey to think that the GOP would have probably won the election if they would have just dropped the abortion thing- that is exactly what they need to do- but will they ever figure it out.
Karl Rove funded polls.
Doin,
Please reconsider. In fact, for the good of the country, please stay.
All that each of us needs to do going forward is to moderate our tone, to make an honest attempt at civility, and to seek to expand our common ground.
There is no future for your side if you retreat into the bubble, and there is no future for ours if we fail to accept that in your departure there is something to be lost.
Forty-eight percent of the electorate in this election supported someone other than the President; we acknowledge that fact.
You have now only to acknowedge that an even larger number, 50.4%, chose to support him.
From our playground days we were taught about the sanctity of majority rule, but we were also reminded that the interests of the minority need to be respected and their rights protected.
Let's put the election behind us and get on with retooling the nation for a stronger future for us all.
MSNBCMFE,
Sorry but 'doin' has been banned for spamming
Some actual facts please: The Florida votes were reviewed by a group of journalist orgs after the election of 2000. The report came out I think almost a year after the election. If the votes of the two counties that Gore wanted recounted were the only ones recounted, then Bush would win. Every other combination of recounting of all of Florida, whether including hanging chads or not and other combinations, Gore won every one of those permutations. Of course the total recount of Florida votes became irrelevant when the Supreme Court halted the official process and gave the election to Bush.
So the minority vote tends to go for the party promising the most free handouts? Where's the story here?
I mean seriously. To summarize this story, the Republican Party is in decline because they aren't promising enough handouts to the new minority demographics.
Some of you libbies don't seem to realize, that if our nominees promised more handouts,(to anyone), we wouldn't nominate them. We want ideological purity. Hell, we demand it. That's why a liberal like Mitt had so many problems in the Republican primary. In all honesty, if you look at ALL the issues, and quit listening to just talking points, Mitt Romney was probably further left on the ideology scale than Obama was. Only his support for the wealthy obscured this fact.
The root of the problem is clear. For 40 years now earners and performers have not been able to breed because they can't afford it. Those on welfare have bred their asses off because someone else is paying their way. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that in time there will be more welfare cases than there will be performers and earners.
That time is now. The welfare cases outnumber the performers, AND they know they can vote themselves benefits.
All this does is create competition for resources, and most of us already know what the net result of that is.
jeff, couldn't have said it better. My sentiments exactly, but let me add that maybe, just maybe out of all of this we might see the emergence of a VIABLE third party which, short of bipartisan cooperation, is something this country has needed for a very long time. Therein lies the real hope and change. I'm tired of having to choose between only chocolate or vanilla on a waffle cone (if you get my drift).
There is the ever tolerant and inclusive IAN '3M TA3' EMDEE. you're a real class act pal.
Blacks voted for blacks.
Women voted for women.
Hispanics voted for Hispanics.
Liberals voted for liberals.
Conservatives voted for Conservatives.
GBLTs for GBLTs.
ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
(Please note the words America and American were not included in the above list. America is the wiggling tail broken off a lizard.)
"And it’s all about demographics. In the three counties that have become more Democratic, non-white populations have doubled in a decade."
You're right NBC. The issues and economic reality mean nothing to those of the same skin-color demographic. Obama's "win"was the O.J. verdict replayed on a much larger scale.
How revolting is it that the same race-baiting and division employed by the Democrats last century with their support of the KKK are now welcomed and cheered by the same people who claim to be have been most offended by it? One has to wonder if they ever look in the mirror and realize they have become the same people they have always called ignorant.
Although I'm sure it contributed, attributing Obama's victory solely to shifting demographics is a gross oversimplification. It is also unproductive in that it allows Republicans to delude themselves into thinking that their loss was due to factors beyond their control rather than undertaking the critical analysis of their strategic mistakes over the last 4 years that would be beneficial for their, as well as the country's, future. In the interest of constructive criticism, I'll try to get them started in this endeavour.
IMHO their initial, and most serious, mistake was deciding at the outset that their strategy was to obstruct, rather than cooperate with, the new administration at every opportunity. Many of their subsequent errors were a direct consequence of this one. For example, their reflex opposition to the Affordable Care Act, even though it was based on models developed by conservative think tanks and the plan enacted by a Republican governor, lead to their vilifying the act when they were not able to block it. This placed the eventual Republican nominee, the aforementioned governor, in the unenviable position of having to explain why his plan was a good idea when he enacted it but a bad one when Obama did. It also undercut what was probably his most significant accomplishment as governor.
Then the Republicans made a major issue out of the federal deficit. This was a poor political decision from the word go because it assumed the electorate had Alzheimer's in that they would not remember the fact that the last Democratic president (prior to the current one) was paying down the national debt and left his Republican follower with a budget surplus, who then proceeded to run up the budget deficit to levels unprecedented up until that time. Not only did this new-found angst over the budget deficit destroy their credibility, it also placed their eventual nominee in the untenable position of having to explain how the traditional Republican attempt to pander to the electorate by promising tax cuts would not increase the deficit.
There are many other strategic errors the Republicans made while shooting themselves in the foot, but it is my intention only to get them started in this process, not do their work for them. But you kind of get the idea.

I hate to burst your bubble or for that matter cause your one remaining brain cell to wither but I am neither an African American, Hispanic, Woman, Liberal, Conservative or GLBT!!! I am an educated, 50+ White “Christian” Male who enthusiastically gave all the money I could and voted for Obama not once but now twice!!!!
Funny thing here is that I used to be a Republican but left the party after over 30 years because I became disenfranchised with a party that no longer represented me but their own interests like Corporations, the wealthy and their own lust for power and control!
You claim that these people voted for their race or gender and you are entitled to your belief, but the fact is that they voted for the candidate that talked to them about “FACTUAL” issues, they voted for the individual who can move this nation forward in a way that is beneficial to ALL Americans and not just a select group!
The problem is that the Republican party is still living in the Reagan years…all I hear is Reagan this and Reagan that…. It would be like the democrats saying FDR this FDR that…. times and the country has changes exponentially and the Repubs are still trying to sell the same bill of goods defense spending, cut entitlements (except those to the rich) and tax cuts to those job creators at the top create jobs… what I would like to know is how a few hundred thousand families can create a few million jobs? How can they spend enough to create the demand for products and services as THAT is the only way to CREATE JOBS!!!!! Can you or any other Republican clear that up for me??? It will take some math skills….LOL
What gets me is that even after an election where it has been explained on every news station (except Fox) that the reason the Republicans lost was that they alienated Women, African Americans, Hispanics, the poor and the GLBT communities, they had no other message than division, they had no plan other than the 5 point plan of tax cuts for the rich that are paid for by the middle class, trillions more to be spent on defense to protect us from who knows who, the repeal of health care, the privatization of Soc. Security and the turning of Medicare into vouchers…. WOW… What a plan!!! Oh, and lets not forget about the 12 million jobs that would just pop out of our a$$es!!!!!
My guess is that it all came down to Romney…you chose the idiot from a field of absolute morons and he had to swing so far to the right to gain the support of your legions that in doing so alienated that 47% of the country, he chose the guy who’s economic plan would destroy the middle class (great pick by the way) and thay ultimately came out to vote in such a mass that it overwhelmed the right wing minions that caused Rove’s head to explode and that is what led to the second term of the man who will get this nation economically back on track and taxing the upper 1% who obviously have millions to spend on taxes as they sure as hell had enough to try to BUY the election!!!!
I hope and wish that Karl Rove and his backers will soon realise that money does not buy you love all the time. You have to be attractive to the damsel some of the time for them to look at the money. See how majority of Americans rejected you and your Greek bearing golden horse. They know it is enslavement no matter how flowery you concocted your motive and that of your millionia and billionia backers. The people refused to sell their freedom for a mere plate of porridge. They want you to instead pay your fair share tax rather than pretend that a minuscule percentage you dangle in their faces is worth their while. We are not stupid, Exxon does not need the welfare check from government in the billions and Mitt Romney and his wall street money men need to pay more than 14% in taxes to help fix the deficit, we need all to contribute their fair share........period.
"Romney never really embraced the tea party. 3,000,000 of them stayed home"
I doubt we have 3,000,000 tea bag people in the entire nation. The problem isn't with Romney. Tea bag candidates across the board lost. The problem is the Republican base is dying off.
Bottom line -- they days of old, white, high school educated men dominating US politics are OVER. The days of ditto-heads dominating US politics are OVER. This is the beginning of a new era and if the Republican Party fails to realize that, they will go the way of the Whig Party of the 19th century. The future of the Republican Party, if any future exists at all, rest with people like Chris Christi, not with Rush the junkie, Glen Beck, Michelle Bachmann or Sarah Palin.

@Akron
LMAO!! Seriously?! Who was it stating just a week ago that Republican enthusiasm was through the roof? OH that's right, it was you! Stating that Obama's turnout was going to be less than 2008 and that Romney would have huge support.
Frankly DB you are an idiot, I will say it as curtly as that and if I get suspended for a day so be it because this has to be said to break you guys out of your delusional phase before you destroy the GOP. You actually think someone more Conservative can win? Get over your party, the Tea Party is dead and buried. It is just a matter of time before the GOP kicks the Tea Partiers out of their party and I fully support them in doing that. People like Joe Scarborough and other Moderate Republicans see what the problem is and the problem is idiots like you turning the GOP into an extremist Hell hole.
If you go further to the Right and the GOP does not kick you out, you are guaranteeing that the GOP will disintegrate entirely into obscurity and we will become a Third Party/Democratic nation. You are NOT a Regan-Conservative; Regan is well to the left of where the Tea Part is right now. You are an extremist if you are part of the Tea Party. Regan would have either thrown you out or left the party and started a new one or joined the Independents with the rest of the Moderates from the GOP.
But sure, continue your march to the Right; many Democrats will thank you when you do because you will ensure at least 12 more years of Democratic leadership after 2016. Time for you to wake up and realize your mistakes and take ownership of them. Look at those Senate losses, look at the House losses. Look at the Swing State losses. You do not have enough Tea Party members to win elections period. If you want to stay a national party you have to moderate. Stop listening to that dumbass Rush and watch/listen to some Republican Moderates and get a clue.
I don't see how any of you or Obama can call this win a victory..Not when half the country hates his guts and doesn't want him as their president.. I wonder if Obama can swim?... In my opinion, I sure wish he would take a long walk.. off a short California peer... Here Sharky, Sharky....
It was Rick Scott and the Republican party that told the I-4 corridor that the train would be blocked even if it was 100% paid for.
The extreme Republicans who have run the party for 20 years, said they don't that businesses wanted it.
They cared more about saying no to Obama than helping businesses in the I-4 corridor who wanted it.
Debbie --
100% accurate.
Can we get a little more depth than a race-based analysis of the election? Counties and entire states that are 90% white went overwhelmly to preserve the status quo is presidential and Congressional election. How about some analysis about how the only thing that the electorate mandated was at least two more years just like the last two years. People are happy and delighted with gridlock. They affirmed their 2010 backlash against socialism and affirmed their choice of a minority President who gets nothing accomplished. The last two years made Obama a more comfortable choice, since can can't do a thing without compromising.
You're as insane and blind as they come. Socialism? accomplish nothing? You think this 2012 election is an affirmation of 2010????????????????? That, of 23 Democratic Senate seats contested, every single Democrat was re-elected, and the Rethuglicans actually LOST 2 Senate seats is an affirmation of 2010?????? People are happy and delighted with gridlock??????????? You are even more stupid than I imagined most Phuckednoose types. Unbelievable.
There are some ironies. Weren't there two Democrats who ran on the Tea Party agenda of fiscal responsibility that won?
acspore - "Rethuglicans actually LOST 2 Senate seats is an affirmation of 2010??????"
My goodness, 2 seats! Why don't you list how many the Democrats lost in 2010?
Here's a hint; It was the worst loss by a party since WWII.
@pjam09
Republicans defeated 2 incumbent Democrats in the 2010 elections. Four seats were gained by Republicans from retiring Democrats.
You have to realize that Senate seats are usually kept for many terms unless in rare cases and for major reasons.
Ray's notion that we elect a president with the purpose of doing Nothing is absurd at best.
I grew up in Orlando and lived in Tampa the last 15 years. The I-4 corridor has changed because of one simple fact. The Spanish Vote. The schools I went to were 10% Spanish at the time now they are 80% and this is the fastest demograpic.

It also seems impossible for Republicans to get over the issue of abortion, which I suggest that Republicans are going about all wrong.
Since abortions have become legal, whites have all but killed off their own race, but other races haven't done that. So Republicans would probably be better served if they stop trying to take EVERYBODY's rights away because their own Party seems to be overly abusing that right and ultimately killing off their own race.
Why don't Republicans try to "legislate" the abortion issue in their churches, especially since they claim to be so "Christian", where they'd probably have more success, instead of in Washington where they'd have NO success?

I agree with Seven2Seven. Over the past 15 years Orlando has been inundated with Hispanics from all over.
I think it is pretty well settled that women can legally kill their babies until birth. As you well know, Planned Parenthood's founding principle was to slow down minority birthrates - not women's rights or health.
The issue for some Republicans is does a woman's right to kill her child extend to the final trimester? Does it extend beyond an actual live birth? How much of this "Forward" agenda should be financed by the government?
why is the history of planned parenthood relevant today? That was 100 years ago. Things change, try to pay attention. Heck, the GOP used to be the party of fiscal responsibility, small gov't, and avoiding wars..lol.
TO: Ray-of-light in D.C. who wrote:
Are you really worried about minority babies, because minorities are NOT the ones having all these abortions.
As I heard in the news for the past couple days, there are not even enough whites in America to be a decisive factor in a national election, and I believe that because if there were enough whites, then Mitt Romney would have won.
However, there ARE enough minorities to be THE decisive factor in national elections, which obviously means that it has NOT been miniorities that have been having the abortions that Republicans keep complaining about.
The Fat Cats spent so much to get rid of the President. They pushed the cash, voter suppression and dirty tricks. However, in the end they lost, and the people won.
Never knew that Fat Cat George Soros was trying to "rid of the President", that is news to everyone.
I think you are mixing various topics here. Keep in mind that Congressional districts are all gerrymandered to ensure that the incumbent always wins. The only way to break this cycle is through term limits.
Essentially, you can't get rid of Michele Bachmann because her district is made up of a majority of people who view the world "her" way ( Islamic Fundementalism is coming to America ). Because Congress stayed the essentially the same as 2010 has mode to do with gerrymandered districts than Americas love of the status quo. By the way, Michele Bachmann is just an example; you can find many such Democratic examples as well ( Debbie Wasserman-Schultz )
The Presidency is the one vote you have where congressional district gerrymandering "does not " apply. its a pure, "get out the vote and target it well " process. That is why "no" Tea Party person will ever be President. If the Tea Party enjoys 20% approval in Americas, then they can't get 51% of the vote.
You want to effect real change - vote for any State constitutional amendment that takes congressional re-districting out of the hands of politicans. Then vote for "anything" that applies term limits
Even the President can only run twice.
@Pablo-FL
In response to Ray-of-light in D.C.
"I think you are mixing various topics here."
I totally agree with your response and I was about to respond to his comment.
I'm not sure in which way a comment like that of Rol in DC could make sense to anyone, including himself.
I find there are many valid points on the subject of the election and there are so many brilliant and intelligent people on this sight. I would like some Idea on how to get a movement going aimed at the House. Our president has been elected for another 4 years. In his first term the House refused to work with him and has everything so tied up nothing can be done. The president has said that he is willing to work with Romney and the republicans in the house to put America on faster path to full recovery. How do we, Americans who love our country no matter what political view, send a message to the House that if they do not work together, We will work to remove them from government. *please excuse my english*
seven2seven - "President Obama represents all people and one reason the GOP got their @ss handed to them. They are old school and have not changed with the times........"
You do understand there are non-white Republicans don't you? When Obama's approval rate amongst Blacks is TWICE the national average it is not political party that didn't change it is a race that hasn't changed.
P.S.
Here is more of what hasn't changed about Democrats: Race-based rewards just like when they were champions of the KKK.
Latino groups to Obama: You owe Latinos the election, now pass immigration reform
"Leaders of immigrant rights and Latino groups told reporters in a conference call on Wednesday that Obama owes his second term to Latino voters, and should repay them by passing comprehensive immigration reform. Obama promised to pass a law legalizing many of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the country while he campaigned four years ago, and he's been chastised by Latino leaders for breaking his promise."
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/latino-groups-obama-owe-latinos-election-now-pass-194113601--election.html
Imagine that, race-based groups telling the President he owes them... the respect for his "leadership" is clearly immense. (sarcasm)
It is clear that you cannot give everyone everything that they want. Government is about compromise. President Obama was clear that he would address immigration in his next term. We gave him our vote because we trust that he will do his very best to make decisions and past legislation that will have a positive impact on our lives collectively. The truth is that he owes all of us who voted for him and to repay us he must lead this country in a direction that will put this country on the fast track to recovery and rekindle the american dream. It's apparent that if you are really concerned about America and rebuilding this great nation we should keep our eye on the president, and take some time to look at the house and senate. We need to check all parts of our government and let them know the work for us and if they don't put their personal agendas aside, we will work to get them out of office.
@pjam09"
"Imagine that, race-based groups telling the President he owes them..."
You do understand that the overwhelming majority of Hispanic voters are Democrat as well as most minorities in the U.S? They vote Democrat.
You also understand that there are many white-Democrats and in much higher proportion than the one third that voted for Obama in 2008 at the height of his popularity, don't you?
@American Girl-724855
This is off-topic, but actually a disproportionate number of black women elect to have abortions.

Congratulations to all you liberal posters for your victory. It was not what I wished for but I am part of the country and will hope for the best!
With that being said Mr. Obama this is your mess now. No more excuses. I really believe if this thing gets turned around then the Democratic Party could stay in charge a long time. If we get more of the same we have had I really also believe you will see a certain path back to the conservative movement. I think the President(which was elected by the majority) will have a lot to say about which way this country heads for a long time.
We are going to figure out if big government and entitlements are the path to success or is capitalism the wave of the future. The jury is out but the clock is ticking. Good luck Mr. President, I think you are going to need it!
Nicely said, with one caveat:
It isn't just the President's mess. It is also the mess of the folks in Congress, who have refused to be the "loyal opposition" supporting the President when they can, offering compromise when appropriate and offering ideas that are not agenda driven, but driven by love of country.
If the Republicans do not remember their duty and obligation as the party out of power, the nation will be stuck in malaise.
You are conveniently forgetting that the 2010 election results were a mandate to stop ANYTHING the Demoncrats were putting forth. This election affirmed that this is what the people want. A token minority President is OK as long as he does NOTHING!
TO: dogs80 who wrote:

What is it about Republicans that make them incapable of accepting and living up to their responsibilities, is it because they make too many mistakes?
Unless and until the day comes when Republicans are able to take responsibility for themselves and the mistakes they make, I'd really like to see Republicans STOP trying to assign blame!
Forward...
I guess the biggest issue for me is why anyone would want the position. Both parties spent over a billion dollars on this election (Presidential only) and for what? Nothing has really changed. NEITHER party has a mandate. I really do not see the congress moving nor do I see the President moving. Compromise is a really nice word to throw around, however, compromise does not mean I will do whatever you say. It does not mean the congress or the President is going to be willing to budge. I think both sides should meet in the middle but call me skeptical cause I don't see it happening!
dogs80 - You're correct that there won't be much of a meeting in the middle. I think the Republicans will cave in on more taxes, but with some Democrat support, like the NY and California senators, the $250,000 limit will be bumped up to at least $500,000; since a family in NYC or SF earning $250,000 is probably not rich.
It's a shame that no creative thought will go into this. A family earning $250K, but underwater on a mortgage, kids in college, in an expensive area of the country should not be hit with punitive taxes.
American Girl:
I really do not care to get in an argument with you but if I have to respond to just one of your remarks. First I will say both sides do the blame game. I have no issue with that remark. However, the line when you said it was time for Republicans being unable to accept responsibility for mistakes (while probably has some merit) the liberals on this board and on most talk shows will not accept anything as being fault of the President! Everything that has come to the table that did not turn out your way was either Bush's fault or the Congress, never the Senate or the Oval office. I do mean never! So if you wish for conservatives to admit mistakes then your side needs to be willing to accept that their roles can also be at fault.
By reading several of your post in the past I believe that it is a safe bet you are still going to blame Bush!
Dog, the problem with the once grand old party is that they are too far to the right on the political spectrum. Some seem to want a form of Fascism, they are that far to the right. We had a similar problem on the left during the 1970s when the Democratic party was moving too far to the left. Since then the Democrats have moved more toward the center while the Republicans have moved dangerously too far to the right. If this continues the Republican party may cease to exist. The remnats of that party who are moderates will form another conservative party. That will be slightly right of center and will be willing to work WITH the opposition, won't be controlled by extreme elements nor be run by big money interests. Those few who are currently running the show will move to the extreme right and become Libertarians or maybe even form some party, maybe the John Birch party or something like that.
It happened before. We started with two political parties the Republican (Jefferson Republican Party, different than modern Republican) which evolved into the Democratic-republican party and eventually into the Democratic party. It is the oldest and largest political party in the world. On the other side we have the Federalist party, a party whose ideas were very much like those of the elite from England at the time. As the nation moved West and became more and more liberal the Federalist party died out and the Whig party was formed. With the move to abolish slavery a bunch of disgruntled Whighs and some Democrats formed the Republican party. Originally the Republican party was the more liberal of the two parties but with the civil rights laws of the 1960s they switched to being more conservative and the Democratic party became the more liberal party. As time has gone by the Republican party has moved farther and farther to the right alienating more and more people until they find themselves, not in a big tent but a pup tent made up largely of old white males whow are too stubborn or ignorant to flow with the times. If this attitude continues they will go the way of the Federalists and the Whigs. What would the new party be called? The New Republican party, American Party, Elephant party? The name Republican would be used by those who remain. It will be small and extremist.
If they get their act together and become more liberal, acceptable and move toward the center where they are, once again, willing to work with the opposition to do the work of the people and not just the 1% or the big corporations they will survive. If they can't make the move toward the center they will likely lose electiion after election in the years to come.
Speaker Boehner has been talking the talk that, if he can do it, will start the Republicans on the road to recovery. If he is unable to cooperate and compromise his party is doomed. He knows it but unless he can tame the Fascist wannabe beast he'll be out and so will his party for many years to come.
dogs80, I do think Republicans are willing to compromise now, since they took such a beating for refusing to compromise the last time, not to mention their own stated reasons for refusing to compromise (Republicans wanted to force failure on President Obama, and their only focus was making him a one-term President, both of those Republican ideas FAILED).
We pretty much have it down to Republicans don't want to raise taxes, but they think they can raise revenues and pay bills without doing so.
I say, let's give the Republicans a listen, and see what they've come up with. If they really DO have a way to increase revenues and lower taxes at the same time without trying to wipe out the middle class, I'd say there's a very good chance of reaching a level of compromise.
Think positive!

As far as admitting mistakes, I have been waiting for at least 4 years now for Republicans to even so much as admit that they were ever even responsible, which is yet another reason why the country couldn't trust them to do any better this time, than they did the last time, which was devastating.

At the time of Reagan, we Socially Moderate Yankee Republicans, in the style of Eisenhower, Rockefeller, and Nixon got buffaloed. Many of us sat down with Reagan, studied his policies & believes, and attended rallies. We were assured that we would be a strong part of the GOP for a long time. Wow, did we get kicked under the bus by the 'neocon movement. The new GOP disdained us, did everything they could, including making Nixon the fall guy for all of corruption, and left us stunned. We believe in helping the less fortunate amongst us and tried to work within the party. It just got worse and we have been considered a dead breed, but I proudly say we shouted out on Tuesday. We regrouped during Bush 1 and made our plans. Taught well by the likes of Cheney & minions, we stayed silent and acted instead of reacted. Time, resources, and monies were well spent on both Dem & GOP candidates this election cycle, not to elect Dems, but defeat the teabagger party. We proved that political pundits, superpacs, and polls are useless. But wait, we are not done, off term elections like 2014 are the most important, an we have already started the fight to take down many more rwnjs. The GOP lost a few important seats, including Akin & Murdoch, eh.
We Moderates will stay the course, keep fighting, and strive to make America great agian so the 99% have dignity, pride, and a fair day's wage for a fair day's work, with no wars to kill off our youngsters.
American Girl - You're RIGHT ON! To Dogs80 - Republicans created the economic mess we are now getting out of and that's in spite of the 200-300 uses of fillabuster that Republicans have used to block all legislation in the Senate. The Senate is no longer a functioning arm of government due to a few traitors. All those Republicans should be put on trial for malfeasance and materially harming the United States in time of war. Voting them out of office is not enough!
Your party has been dying for a very long time going back to the New Deal, the Civil Rights and Voting Rights acts, and Nixon's southern strategy.
But it was the wholesale adoption of the religious right which sealed the demise of the GOP. And now you have so many demographic problems that I think Lindsey Graham was right when he said "There just aren't enough angry white guys to keep the GOP in business for the long term."

Very good post.
I don't know how old you are, but I grew up in the 60's, and your column discribes beautifully the atmousphere then, and up until Herbert Walker Bush.
My Father was a Eisenhower Republican and got so fed up with the the GOP he started voting for Anderson and other independents until he finally switched to Democrat.
I hope you are right. The middle class stays healthy with a strong Eisenhower-type GOP and a strong Democrat Party, and the poor have a chance at upward mobility as well.
This current version of the GOP is really a cult.
It really is all about the Middle Class, and we all need to fight back.
Once again, great post.

Also just a small point to make 60% of exit polls showed that the American voter wants Congress to work together to get this done. If the Reps continue on the path of NO then most likely they will feel the repercussions. Also I was dismayed with the comments McConnell made after the election. I think he will still be an obstructionist because he has an election coming up in 2014 and he sees the writing on the wall, if the teaparty could take out Sen. Lugar then they will take him out if they do not think he is playing their game. These people are dangerous. Yesterday I saw an interview with a teaparty darling that is claiming the reason for loss is that Romney wasn't conservative enough. I just can not for the life of me understand how they can look at the data and see that the vast majority of Americans do not hold their beliefs.
This just in....Florida is nearing it's completion of counting votes and predict a win for Kennedy over Nixon.
Great comment Tony!!
Fat Tony, I wonder how many dead votes were for Kennedy in the "just completed vote count" on 1960 in FL. After all, JFK won in 1960 by taking IL with all the dead votes in Cook County.
What is it with Florida anyway? Other states don't seem to have problems counting votes in big elections but Florida does.
I know precincts are larger to save money but they are that way in other states too. Our precinct is 3 times what it was for the 2004 election but all of our votes were in and counted well before 11 PM on election night.
If we can do it surely Florida can figure out how it can be done. Maybe we can show them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again , there is nothing wrong with capitalism UNTIL greed sticks it's ugly head up, then all bets are off. This has been the case since trikle-down started , one look at the income gap shows this. Do we go back to the Robber Barons or go forward . This is up to WE THE PEOPLE , I say go FORWARD.
Forward to where? Our tech is in the toilet. Our country is mired in debt and the war drums are rolling just 2 days after the election for another 2+ trillion debt hike. Your typical Obama voter is not going to contribute much in terms of economic value or innovation. A government check?? A few hundred barely survivable dollars a month...
Face it we are a nation in decline.

Did you actually think that Romney was going to save us from decline? Was he the white knight riding in to save us?
Face it...both Democrats and Republicans are equally to blame for any decline you see.
We ( America) will spend no money on infrastructure. Instead we wait for bridges to fail to fix them. We are getting our butts beat educationally and we lack the focus to change this. This is a government failure as well as a PARENT failure. Our kids enjoy video games after school and get time-out when they are bad.
In the meantime, the value of a good education is not lost on China, India..anywhere. I have a nephew who just changed his college major from Engineering to Hotel management. Think about that.....
Republicans talk about deficit reduction but somehow want to do this by reducing taxes. In your home, do you pay of your bills by asking for a salary cut? If that sounds stupid to you... then the underlying theme of Republican deficit reduction is also dumb.
We are happy to protect the world...FOR FREE. Other countries are happy to have us protect them..FOR FREE.
We go into wars with no care of the cost. As long as we are fighting for democracy, freedom and apple-pie, we are good with the cost. Seriously, just getting out of Afganistan is gonna save us $$.
Everyone has been beating up Obamacare BUT... we saddle our companies with the healthcare costs of their employees and then wonder why they want to hire employees in other countries ( its CHEAPER !! ). Companies are about profits - not about love for their employees.
It still just befuddles me that Fl is the only state that still doesn't have all the votes counted. Is this the last Republican stand against Pres Obama's re election? Regardless, its a done deal. The rich, white, old men (and now religious patriots) need to wake up from the 1950-1980's and FF to now.
Actually, a lot of MILITARY votes in many states still not counted.
I doubt the US will see another white president. In many areas white are already kicked to the curb when it comes to local representation and efforts are under way across the board to rip the financial wealth held by whites and redistribute it to the inner city areas, where it will presumably purchase products grown in Columbia etc.
This trend cannot be stopped. My son noted the fall of Rome has largely been rewritten to make the fall of the US seem less similar in nature, but Rome was overrun in the end by savages as their military and economic might waned.
I see a white President NOW raised by a white, do you have any clue who Obama's mother is??? Obama just calls himself black for a better story line. As a fellow mixed raced person, I would not deny one side of my heritage like Obama does.
if you put a picture of all the presidents together and asked 350,000,000 americans "which one, if any, is black", apparently you would be the only person not to pick out obama.
the point is that compared to the past set of presidents (generally well-off white males), obama is black. Arguing that he's only "partially black" isn't relevant to the point.
That said, whites are still 72% of the population (and much higher percent of the wealth), the chance that there will never be another white elected is about zero.
You are forgetting about white guilt. It has been fostered in our schools and press now for 40 years and pretty much guaranteed at least 1/3 whites will support the dems no matter what!
got a link to prove that "white guilt" guarantees that 1/3 of whites will support the dems "no matter what"? lol, surely you aren't just making that up? :)
I'm willing to get a LOT of money that we'll have another white president in the future. are you? :)
Kurt -- WHEN has has he EVER denied his mixed race heritage.?? When??
Ragtop, Calling oneself one race when you are of two races is denying ones mixed race heritage. Even worse to deny the race that actually raised you. We mixed raced people have got to stop denying half of one's heritage and acknowledge the gift of life that brought us here.
Then what do you call yourself? I remember PBO joking about that in 2007 and 2008. I wish I could recall the exact words.
Obama self-identifies as black because society treats him as a black man.
I suggest you read his books because he explained that in detail.
The-COG, I call myself EXACTLY has I stated "mixed-raced", no denial of one race over the other by calling myself one over the other.
Skrekk, you mean libs treat Obama based on his race, the rest of us judge based on the issues.
My suspicion since it is most clear American politics are determined behind the scenes by ultra rich bankers is Obama is desired...
IMO he appeases the ever growing brown and black populations while at the same time screwing them royally.
Reasoning for change by Article is wrong. It is the massive increase food stamp and welfare rolls of this Obamanomics. These Entitlement Pimps voted for Obama for affraid that they might to have to work for a living. As the article claims of Asians in FL voting for Obama, again wrong, most Vietnamese, Laotians and Cambodians in FL voted for Romney except the Entitlement Pimp ones. Obama did however get most the Islamic Asian votes of Bangladashis, Pakistani, Indonesian & Muslim (India) Indians in FL. The Thai vote were more evenly split
Kurt -
If you and the majority of the Republican party truly believe that those who voted for Pres. Obama merely want 'free stuff' then you will continue to lose national elections.
Republicans will never win hearts, minds and votes until they accept the fact their extreme policies are being rejected by an increasingly larger number of AMERICAN voters.
TNSEVOL, Obama won by a SMALLER % than in 2008, so there goes your theory and Romney got MORE votes in 2012 than McCain did in 2008, again, there goes your theory that of "being rejected by an increasingly larger number of AMERICAN voters"
Kurt makes it all easy. Voting for obama = lazy welfare pimp. lol. Its a simple explanation..for a simple mind.
Kurt-
Obama was within 2 percent of his popular vote margin of 2008, even with the economic uncertainty and higher Republican turnout. How did Romney characterize himself in the debates? How did he present himself to undecided voters? Did he strongly affirm his 'severely conservative' positions or did he present himself as a Moderate?
How did the Senate races go? Almost all the 'extreme' Tea Party candidates lost their state-wide elections.
It is a FACT that a high percentage of minority voters feel the vision, values and policies of the Democratic party are more in line with their beliefs. It is also a FACT that minority voters make up a larger percentage of the population every voting cycle. Therefore, it is a FACT that Republican policies are being rejected by an increasingly larger number of AMERICAN voters.
Sorry, simple math: 1+1=2 and always will.
I retired from the US Air Force in 2003, still working , paying my share of taxes - not consider myself an Entitlement PIMP - and voted for OBAMA...problem with republicans - if you don't share their believes you are unpatriotic, no good, etc....GOP will lose as long as you have cavemen like Kurt. Democrats have given their blood for this country, serve this country...
Vermontguy, are you trying to deny the fact that the vast majority of Entitlement Voters voted for Obama? This is EXACTLY why he won in 2012 due to the massive increase in Entitlement Voters with Food Stamps at an all time high in US history. If is going to be difficult for the GOP to win national elections at these massively high entitlement rates. Lets face, Government Handouts are addictive, people are going to vote to maintain their addictions. This is also the reason Obama will continue to ensure the Entitlement continue increasing at their record pace to ensure another national level President victory at the polls in 2016. We are a changing nation, one from work ethic moving to entitlement handout ethic and the Dems tend to be more willing to expand entitlement handouts to the voters. Better carry your parachute on that eventually Fiscal Cliff, it is getting ever steeper under Obamanomics.
Ren states> "Democrats have given their blood for this country, serve this country..." oh yes, some Dems surely have, never stated that they didn't. Now that YOU brought up the Military Record issue ...So then I am SURE you then voted for Dole over Clinton and McCain over Obama for BOTH Dole and McCain "have given their blood for this country, serve this country" more than Clinton and Obama respectively. By the way, no where in the Constitution does it state one must give given their blood for this country, serve this country to be VP or President, so trying to play the "military card" is useless, I would not use it against others
kurt: a survey of people on unemployment showed they split for obama vs romney, as one example. so unless you can PROVE your case, i'll just laugh at you. :)
Like I say, simple people have simple explanations. :)
go for it.
More people in red states are on food stamps. Food stamps knows no party. If you believe otherwise its because you've been listening to Faux News or Rush. Neither of them deal with facts, they merely seek to motivate you through emotion. News is fairly boring. Rumour and innuendo is more exciting. Guess what gets them more advertising dollars?
Your right bleareyed, food stamps knows no party but almost all of those on food stamps long term were Obama voters to ensure their free handout addiction continues which is more than fine under Obamanamics.
@Kurt -
If the "free stuff" argument makes you feel better. Go with it. And we will introduce you to President Biden or President Clinton in 2016.
If the Republican Party really wants the White House, here are my suggestions:
Pablo your responses
1. ALL illegals should "self-deport" including those of my two races. Illegals do dis-service to all the great LEGAL Immigrants who WAIT their turn to into the USA and pay those hefty immigration fees to Uncle Sam. They then are free to apply the LEGAL way to become productive citizens as ALL other LEGAL immigrates.
2. Stop with your age discrimiation of both very young girls & boys. You have no right kill innocents for the sake of convience.
3. "Americas" what is that? Now that IS dumb. Are you trying to say "Americans"? Amerigo Vespucci was NOT dumb.
4. That woman was correct about Islamic Fundamentalist visting the White House (Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood members), I know Obamanomics hate great Businessmen such as Herman Cain after per Obamanomics we didn't build that, No politician "had 3 wives" however Obama's father was ALREADY married to another woman in Kenya when he married Obama's mother (as many in the Luo Tribe have mulitple wives, allowed per their Islamic Traditions). Nothing against Obama on this just your falsehood of a politician having 3 wives in the Republican primary. Chis Christy and Jeb Bush were NOT in the primaries, and John Huntsman kowtowed too much to the Henchmen in Beijing to be an effective choose of a Candidate.
Mexico is already demanding Obama get to work on rewarding it's citizens:
(sarcasm)
Yep, pjam09, it is such a dis-service to all those Legal Mexican immigrates who applied and waited their turn to immigrate to the US legally. Illegal Immigrates are an insult to our legal immigrates
The most ridiculous thing about Romney's immigration stance was there was no need for it. Many immigrants are already leaving due to the unfavorable economic conditions in the U.S.

The free market at work.
If GOP keeps saying the nation is splitting up and getting more divided, they better understand it is hapenning in every state including their red ones - their larger cities and cities with major college campuses are always much more democratic than the farm/ranch/mountain-mining towns out in the countrysides (other than those that hire the non-whites for farm/manual labor, many just temps that are not treated very well)....How about a report on that you pundits, why have the rural towns remained mainly and in many, many red and purple states only white? Isn't it about time this country has programs bringing inner city youth to the great state and national parks and countryside areas so they can understand the rest of our natural world and enjoy it?
Perhaps it is time to break up the United States so each area can get the political representation they desire?
In today's world it is clear an almost equal split of people see the right path VERY differently!
GHX....I agree. How about having all the Republicans move to Utah and Texas.....we'll join the two states together and call it Uass's.
BigBear - High Density population centers will always be islands of Democrats as living amongst rats everyday makes Democrat behavior seem acceptable, and there are more hosts to leech from.
@pjam09
What have we here, anti-urbanism? What a delightful throwback from the late 19th century!
Down with Tammany Hall and Irish Popery!!
TO: GHX who wrote:
It's already been done! They're called "Congressional Districts".
No America Girl, I mean a christian conservative country and a socialist liberal country, where each person could achieve the maximum value from their life!.
The "racist" white folks could live in the Anglo America and the Socialists could live in the Latin America and everyone could have everything they wanted from their leaders right?
I live in Orlando now. All of the counties in Florida that I have lived in except one were red and now are blue.
So what this means is, by logical extension, is that if you want a county changed from red to blue, just ask me to move there.
Of course, I'll need a little notice, have to sell the house, quit job, etc..
Or maybe I just chase Republicans away. Not sure which way the polling is going on that one.
I believe the relocation of voting assets over the past 4 years has been instrumental in the re-election of Obama. Whites will not move to these areas because they are generally squalid and dangerous to live in with poor schools and high crime rates!
since presidents are elected by electoral votes which are 99% based on the entire state vote, unless your argument is that entire states are "generally squalid and dangerous to live in" then your argument is moot.
GHX...."relocation of voting assets"......hilarious term.....makes no sense but hilarious just the same. How long did it take to coin that....and what on earth were you trying to say?
I think GHX is asying that once a non-white moves into a neighborhood, that neighborhood quickly becomes a slum - in like 2-4 years time.
Mark L --
It seems to work that way for me too, except on a state level. I like it.
vermont - "since presidents are elected by electoral votes which are 99% based on the entire state vote, unless your argument is that entire states are "generally squalid and dangerous to live in" then your argument is moot."
When will liberals ever learn basic percentages?
"99% based on" does not have anything to do with 99% of the state.
Picture a doctor looking at an x-ray and saying he is 99% sure you have cancer... it doesn't mean that 99% of you is cancer.
Florida is a blue state now because of this, its going to remain that way.
Unfortunately you are correct, no matter how bad the blue party gets or how much it decimates America, certain factions will choose to remain oblivious to the consequences.
TO: pjam09 who wrote:
How is the blue party "bad" and how is it "decimating America"? I'd really like to know some specifics.
The rich people keep on getting richer and don't seem to be complaining, not even when they hear their taxes might go up.
I keep hearing Republicans saying all this negative stuff, but so far all I've heard them mention is the abortion issue, nothing else.
Illegals aliens will continue to take over, free stuff and you can vote without an ID, America opportunity for all even if you are not an American!
Statements like this is exactly why the GOP will never get the Hispanic vote. What the GOParty really needs to do is sit on the fringe hate groups and disavow statements like you just made to win back hearts and minds. But they won't, can't help themselves.
Do you really believe that seriously? THERE IS NO in person voter fraud stop spouting fake news these talking points are why your party is imploding because of all the bat s h i t crazy
Ricardo - "Statements like this is exactly why the GOP will never get the Hispanic vote"
Why do you assume all illegal aliens are Hispanic? And furthermore why do you assume that American residents of Hispanic descent would favor criminal activity from foreigners?
Statements like that expose your racism, laws apply to all races whether you like it or not.
You just proved what I said. Especially the last part of what I said.
BS. Just because somebody has an Hispanic name doesn't mean they are illegal. Many, many Hispanics in Florida, Colorado, New Mexico, and Iowa are second and third generation. The era of old, white haired, high school educated, white guys dominating politics are over. Get used to in. As for "free stuff" --- you mean your social security, medicare and medicaid??
I can't believe this story missed the actual truth. The real reason they aren't a factor is it's going to take Florida until 2016 to finish counting their ballots. I believe they said they'll recount and recount until Romney actually wins the state. Democracy at it's highest folks, kinda makes you proud you don't live in Florida, doesn't it?
Amazing...the GOP is still not getting it. This is evolution. If you want to survive, you're going to have to adapt to the changing environment or face extinction. We learn this in elementary school...I guess they don't teach that in Private schools. I grew up in a upper middle class neighborhood in the suburbs of Kendall (Miami-Dade, FL). My parents while not the upper 1%, they were affluent and get this are Democrats...yes they believe everyone deserves a shot and preferred I attend public school so that I was exposed to people of different backgrounds and economic status'. Open your minds people...
girly - "the GOP is still not getting it. This is evolution."
Actually its the same race-baiting and division the Democrats used last century when they were champions of the KKK. There is nothing new about it, it is the only way Democrats can get votes other than paying off unions.
Florida needs to be investigated. They keep screwing up elections.
49 other states don't get so baffled by the process.
They use seasonal geriatrics who move to Florida during the winter, count slow, and often lose their train of thought and have to start over. ;) <- smiley emoticon
Hello Florida,
It's over, you can stop counting, doesn't make a difference where your electorial votes go.
Not surprised by any of this, freeloaders and slackers taking up residence there. If it weren't for tourism, Florida would be broke like california.
According to Bill O'Reilly, the "others". Referring to minorities, especially those on the I-4 Corridor of Florida. Want things. And who better to provide those things than the Welfare/Food Stamps Champion President Barack Obama. But seriously, the demographics, the thinking, and the culture of America is only going to continue to change, and change for the better. And the 3rd reich wing blowhards, dittoheads, , the GOP establishment, Teabaggers, and Fox News can't accept that significant piece of American reality. The election was a repudiation against Tea Party Right Wing extremism, corporate big money, Republican obstructionism, and extreme right wing religious fundamentalism. I guess the only folks who embraces these rigid conservative ideas are those who live in rural areas.
Snake-
Faux, Rush, and Rove will continue to deny this and tell there viewers and listener's that "everything is going to be alright", and Democrats will continue to win elections.
The train to the 21st Century has left the station, and the Faux watchers are left on the platform.

On Fox News... (using Ayn Rand-speak) anybody who is White are 'Makers' and anybody who is not white are 'Takers' -- that is totally Fair and Balanced commentary from Fox News.
Or as Fox News likes to say.. 'FACT' -- right before they tell a lie (backed by zero true data).
The over arching aspect of the Florida vote is that the GOP spent so much time with voter supression that they forgot about counting the damn ballots. This is a disgrace no matter which way it falls, calling this sham correctly one would graciously use terms such as incompetence, mis-management, a cluster f**k, etc.,etc. The officials in Florida were purportedly working under the same constraints as all of the other states who had all of their votes tallied the night of the election, but not this group of hard working right wing-nuts....laughable in some manner, disgraceful in so many others. Floridians should demand a special prosecutor to oversee an investigation into how this kind of incompetence has become synonymous with Florida election processes, if for no other reason to save some dignity.
I think the TPRepubs knew exactly what was in store for them when their voter suppression tactics were overturned by the courts. It was their only hope.
Sandy in NY and NJ necessitating some work by candlelight, more voters, and they got it done. Too much Zanax, Paxil, and Viagra in FL, I guess.
I still don't understand why anyone has a problem with Voter ID. You need an ID to buy liquor, to cash a check, to buy a pack of cigarettes. Why not to vote? I don't understand why people are so set against it.
No issues with voter ID. Just stop calling a drivers license = voter ID.
Why do they send voter registration cards to people if NO ONE ever looks at them? How many millions of dollars go into these voter ID cards with no picture on them that no one at the voting booth wants.
Why don't we start ( TODAY ! ) on providing all registered voters with an ID card that includes a picture or signature that can be verified? Why come up with OBVIOUS voter supression ideas right before an election?....
You watch... the next time ANYONE will show ANY interest in voter laws will be before 2016 and it will be the same set of Republicans trying to supress the vote
Pablo-FL
Amen.

There was talk of Democratic polls oversampling Democrativ voters. Actually, since the organization of the Obama campaign was so superior to getting out the vote in Ohio and Florida, the sampling was right on the spot. The Obama team knew who would be voting, Romney's team was clueless and got trounced because of it. Community organizing will beat lying your way through a campaign every time.
Speaking of the GOP attempts at Voter Suppression.. which BACKFIRED , Big-time..as it may have actually helped make up for the media-created 'Enthusiasm gap' as people the American People who knew the GOP was trying to 'Block the Vote' got up and went to the Polls., and endured miserable conditions in order to make sure their votes were counted.
and then.. OMG -- Karl Rove the so-called 'Architect' -- is on Fox News using backwards speech from the movie 1984 -- since the GOP had an epic fail at using Voter Suppression.. Karl Rove tries to once again mis-lead the sheep who worship Fox News.. by saying Barack Obama won by using 'Voter Suppression'
Lol.. amazing. But the left has been awakened and is no longer susceptible to these deceitful GOP mind-control tactics.
They're not working on us Karl -- and you are just hurting the Republicans more .. by not letting them face the simple truth.. and join us here in this century. The right-Wing extremist agenda has been rejected.
1984 is not happening Karl Rove -- you will have to face that accept the fact that you are now facing a more intelligent and informed electorate.
Time to get real and tell the truth.
So the inclusive democrat party is all about race and non-white voters. What a sad commentary for America.
Just like last century when they were all about race and white voters.
Amazing how easily promises of "free" handouts erases the memories. Sad indeed.
Poor, oppressed rich white voters.
The party of Reagan, Eisenhower is dead
NOPE, Reagan Republicans and Eisenhower Republicans are of polar extremes. We Yankee Eisenhower Type Republicans are socially concerned, not fiscal like Reagan. There is a big difference.
Reagan sucked.
Yep, especially when you can vote with no ID other than a couple of utility bills showing where you live.
I think the Dems should now push for Voter ID -- so that we can take this issue off the table for 2016.
And not let the Repubs set the Agenda for what kinds of I.D''s are acceptable as in this year 2012 --The Republican State legislatures PURPOSELY targeted Voters their research assumed would be likely Obama Voters.
For instance based on 2008 Voter results the GOP saw that many NRA members voted Republican -- and many College Students voted Democrat -- So GOP Voter I.D. laws = NRA membership = Acceptable Voter I.D.
College I.D. = 'Unacceptable' Voter I.D.
if Democrats take over drive for nationwide Voter I.D. in 2013 and over the next three years.. Everybody in the country who is eligible can have an er.. hmm.. Fair and Balanced acceptable Voter I.D.
So that Republicans won't get to chance to play this (not so) subtle Voter Suppression game again.
also look at median incomes in that corridor over the last ten years and see what the trends are... what about real estate values????
"doin a doubletake": My goodness, you're exactly the reasons why your side LOST BIG - you just don't get it! The lessons you learned in your big loss in 2008 was to voter suppress and intimidate, dirty tricks all around - letters, emails to confuse voting dates, throw away Democratic registrations, outright voter fraud (the only examples caught were by RETHUGLICANS like you), on & on. Instead of INLUDING, to fight for EVERY vote by EXPANDING, your side chose to EXCLUDE insinuating voter fraud nonsense, cutting down early voting hours, etc. etc. And your numbskull brain wonders WHY YOU LOST BIG AGAIN???????? You spout "Liberty, Freedom, Democracy" round the world, but in our very own country you try to limit voting????
You've been fed only one side of the story from Phuckednoose for so long, you all became DELUSIONAL and INSANE, thinking Romney would win by a "landslide" even. When poll numbers go against you, when the jobs report is not to your liking (talk about rooting for America to fail!), when the science goes against you, blame it on conspiracies, make up your own facts, I got news for ya: TRUTH WINS, FACTS WIN. Math and Science wins.
From the Rachel Maddow show last night, www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/#49736294:
Ohio really did go to President Obama last night. And he really did win. And he really was born in Hawaii. And he really is legitimately president of the United States, again.
And the Bureau of Labor Statistics did not make up a fake unemployment rate last month. And the Congressional Research Service really can find no evidence that cutting taxes on rich people grows the economy. And the polls were not skewed to oversample Democrats. And Nate Silver was not making up fake projections about the election to make conservatives feel bad. Nate Silver was doing math.
And climate change is real. And rape really does cause pregnancy sometimes. And evolution is a thing.
And Benghazi was an attack on us, it was not a scandal by us. And nobody is taking away anyone`s guns. And taxes have not gone up. And the deficit is dropping, actually.
And Saddam Hussein did not have weapons of mass destruction. And the moon landing was real. And FEMA is not building concentration camps. And U.N. election observers are not taking over Texas. And moderate reforms of the regulations on the insurance industry and the financial services industry in this country are not the same thing as communism.
Listen, last night was a good night for liberals and for Democrats for very obvious reasons, but it was also, possibly, a good night for this country as a whole, because in this country, we have a two-party system in government. And the idea is supposed to be that the two sides, both come up with ways to confront and fix the real problems facing our country. They both propose possible solutions to our real problems. And we debate between those possible solutions.
And by the process of debate, we pick the best idea. That competition between good ideas from both sides about real problems in the real country should result in our country having better choices, better options, than if only one side is really working on the hard stuff.
acspore - "you're exactly the reasons why your side LOST BIG"
Yes Democrats suffered huge losses in 2010, but they bought enough votes this time to get 50% of the vote. Promising "free" handouts achieved their goal despite the massive cost to the nation and its future.
