As Mitt Romney's long, hard-fought race for the presidency came to an end, the campaign faced a stinging loss – and at one point even cut out the audio on broadcast screens in the campaign's election night ballroom as the results poured in. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
As Republicans sort through what went wrong for former Republican nominee Mitt Romney on Tuesday, they might look back ruefully at four words that became forever associated with the GOP nominee: "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt."
There are varied reasons for President Barack Obama's re-election to a second term, from changing demographics to superior campaign organization and beyond. And Obama's broad margin in the Electoral College meant that no single state was responsible for his victory over Romney.

David Goldman / AP
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney arrives to his election-night rally, Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Boston.
But as Republicans begin to pick through the aftermath of Romney's loss, Romney's struggles to address his opposition the 2009 rescue of General Motors and Chrysler stymied an effort to gain a foothold in Obama's Midwestern "firewall," and turn his attention to other key battleground states.
Related: Romney's chances in Ohio tied to softening auto bailout stance
It was an issue with which Romney struggled for the duration of the campaign, as Obama traipsed across Midwestern states, hammering away against his Republican opponent on the issue, while touting the resurgence of GM and Chrysler following the billions in aid provided to the companies.
A strong majority - 60 percent - of voters on Tuesday in Ohio said that they had approved of the auto bailout, and Obama beat Romney among those voters by a healthy 73 to 25 percent difference.
In Wisconsin, another state that composed Obama's firewall (along with Iowa), a majority of voters - 53 percent - said they had approved of the bailout. Obama bested Romney among those voters, 79 to 20 percent.
Republican political strategist Mike Murphy joins Chuck Todd to talk about Mitt Romney's struggle to court the popular vote.
Those numbers suggest that Romney's effort over the past year to recast his opposition to the bailout, put bluntly, failed.
Romney's New York Times op-ed opposing then-President George W. Bush's efforts to extend aid to the troubled automakers came just weeks after the 2008 election -- four years ago next Saturday, to be exact.
And while it's unlikely that the former Massachusetts governor himself wrote the provocative headline that would stick with him through his 2012 campaign, he wrestled and struggled with the issue throughout his battle with Obama.
Even in the primaries, Romney's conservative challengers argued it was callous for him to have supported the Wall Street bailout while opposing the auto rescue, especially as a native son of Michigan whose father ran a car company when Romney was young.
Romney reasoned that the managed bankruptcy endured by GM and Chrysler was actually his idea in the first place. And then he pivoted to argue that bondholders and dealers were shortchanged in that process, to the benefit of autoworkers' unions, which had backed Obama in 2008.
But neither of those arguments seemed to resonate in the long term, prompting Romney in the closing weeks of the campaign to address his deficiency with a deeply misleading pair of radio and TV ads stoking fears that Jeep was planning to move production from the U.S. to China.
Those ads were ostensibly an effort to make gains with swing voters in the outlying areas surrounding Toledo, the home to a major Jeep production facility.
But Obama carried Lucas County, which includes Toledo, last night by the same margins as 2008. The president also carried nearby Ottowa and Wood Counties (albeit by a slimmer margin than '08), despite Bush having won both in 2000 and 2004.

Demographics and the changing ethnic makeup of the electorate will render a party that can not adapt incapable of winning a national election...
100% correct Dangerfield.
It was the combination of multiple categories of voters that gave the Democratic Party the ability to win. IF the Republicans learn from this and actually become more of an inclusive centrist party instead of isolating themselves by race and extreme agenda, then they can look forward to future successes.
Yes, change happens whether you take notice or not.
Demograhics is a simple math equation.
Even the word ethnic makeup is a changing construct.
Political parties can be frozen in time.
but" time waits for no one."
And. Berg (R) ND concedes. Please meet Senator Heitkamp, (D).
I totally did not get in on the victory fest, so I just gotta say, Mr. President, I am as proud as can be to have you lead this country for another four years! My leftie libs here on FR: WE DID IT! It has been a fun ride with all of you and I look forward to a great four years with all of you. To the others who tried to diminish us and take away our spirit? We are libs and we don't scare easily and we fight back hard!
Obama/Biden: OH YES WE DID!
Right back at ya, AlaskaGirl!
Alaska Girl - You betcha! And, we just keep fighting!
LMAO!!!!!I have one word for why MYTH lost. LIAR!
Alaska Girl,
The vicotry fest is still underway, glad you checked in.
NDD,
Wonderful news about Senator Heitkamp!!
Some day we will have an equal number of women and men in the Senate.
Anxious to learn more about the new women Senators.
It was more than "Let Detroit go bankrupt." The 47% of Americans are dependent on the government was a killer: also the lies, about Jeep jobs going to China. Just too many lies. Then there were his secret tax returns and vagueness of his own policies. He has no soul and running for POTUS revealed how empty he really is.
Blaming poor Willard.....he certainly tried to adopt all the right-wing policies/rhetoric..but it was just too much for him......lying to himself....lying to the electorate.....lies all around!
TeaPeople....blame yourselves and all the extreme positions on issues.......Be Proud of your extremism!
Some day we will have an equal number of women and men in the Senate.
----------------------------------------------------
Why not all women? It was a boy's club for 200 years...
Alaska Girl -
Best ride I've had since the White Pass and Yukon - thanks for coming along!
Thanks Guys! There were so many comments posted on the "Victory" pages that I had to wait until now to get my voice heard! Worth the wait! Last night was even better than 2008! History has been made and I am just so glad that I was on the right side of it! And I have to say it! The concession speech by the flip flopper was nearly as sweet as President Obama's victory speech!
Obama wins, finally cementing health care reform and Wall Street reform as the law of the land. The Democrats strengthen their hold on the Senate with the election of moderate Blue Dogs senators from red states. The fiscal cliff will force Republicans and Democrats to work together. Maybe they can come to a grand bargain after all.
As for Willard, nice concession speech. If he had campaigned like that and not told those bailout lies, maybe the end result would have been different. Obama said he will meet with him. If Willard's true self is the Massachusetts Mitt, then maybe he can chair a task force dedicated to rebuilding the north east and coming up with a bipartisan approach to climate change. I think Gov's Christie and Cuomo and Mayor Bloomberg could get on board with that. If Willard's true self is the "severely conservative" he can just go away.
Meanhile, the signal to noise rati is a lot more pleasant here today. Wonder why that is?
Some other lessons the Right might look at from this election:
You can throw all the money in the world at it, but without integrity, it's hard to win. Constantly changing positions, and blatantly, provably lying about your opponent and about yourself do not demonstrate integrity.
Expecting the American people to elect you without telling them what you plan to do is not a winning strategy.
Refusing to disclose your tax returns does not inspire confidence.
Ron Indiana

Ron that is a good one. The 47% won!!!
I'm listening to Speaker Boneher say the right is willing to accept a balanced approach. To reduce the deficit we need to not raise taxes for the rich, and cutting entitlements. It seems to me the Republicans are not learning.
I thank all you Democrat posters. It's been a pleasure reading your posts, I tryed to do my small part by taking from the Rep. play book . Just a bit of subtrafuge to get some to cross party lines. You folks have a great day.
P.S. ---- Wheres Feisty ? Please thank her for me.
Yahoo... I'm right here! lol
No thanks necessary old man, it has been my pleasure standing by your side in our hard fought battle!
*popcorn*?
The last time the republican party pitched a big tent or took a wide stance was in an airport men's room.
You'd think that with all their vast riches the Koch brothers could have afforded something better than Crow for breakfast this morning.
But seriously folks... There ought to be a bread shortage after what the networks, etc. went through sopping up all that Citizens United gravy.
Al in Visalia: "If Willard's true self is the Massachusetts Mitt, then maybe he can chair a task force dedicated to rebuilding the north east and coming up with a bipartisan approach to climate change."
Not sure if even Mitt knows who his true self is anymore, but I could get on board with that myself. Excellent suggestion!
Romney should have never picked Ryan to run with, he shouldn't have taken up the Teagaggers' rant about the bailouts, and, well, everything Romney did was just a disaster from a left-leaning Independent such as myself point of view.
I actually believe that Romney (and "The Donald" [Trump]) thought Romney would win just based on the fact that he was running against a Halfrican-American.
Congratualtions President Obama!
Hi Feisty , It was a good fight , it kinda got an old mans blood going . If the repubs would get rid of the racist part they MIGHT ,MAYBE have a chance in 2016 --- NOT ---.Got to go , have a good one.
Yes we do AlaskaGirl!
old man: thank you for posting too! We need all the liberal voices we can get.
So Mitt is a good businessman if you are looking at the profit side of things only. A president needs to look at the human side of things also. That was a huge weakness on Mitt's part, and he just couldn't figure out how to hide it.
Somehow it is terribly fitting that neither Romney nor Ryan carried their "home" state - whatever home state that was for Romney.
If Romney TRULY wants to serve the country, he will work with the President to help increase jobs. President Obama said he would work with him - why not? Let's see if Mitt can actually do anything!
Dangerfield,
I told you on FT that I am a progressive realist.
I take 50% for next goal.
NH did get 100% women for their top elected offcials. Yahoo!
I'm glad you are all so happy. My faith in our country is officially shattered. The majority of Americans just voted for 20+Trillion in debt, unemployment that will go back up as soon as the Bush tax cuts expire and the full brunt of Obama care kicks in.
Just wondering. Did anyone switch to Faux News coverage last night just to get a good laugh. A few gems, "moderates are closet liberals," Turdblossum spinning and losing it over Ohio, then the slow realization that they were getting their asses kicked that came over the newsroom was priceless!
Rhino, thanks for checking in. I was thinking all the rightie lemmings might have really flung themselves over the cliff. It is just an election and if we can survive 8 years of Bush, you should be able to survive 8 years of Obama. Or you can just be ticked off for another four years. Your choice!
I just saw cryin' Johnny Boehner asking for cooperation and for both sides to work together. Is he going to be a hypocrite or will he be willing to work with the other side? If the past is any indication he won't work with the other side, not because of his own personal beliefs but because his bosses (Koch bros. & Norquist) will tell him what to do. I hope he proves me wrong but I will wait and see.
Old Man,
What racist part of the GOP are you referring to? Has far as I can tell there is racism throughout our government.
I saw that Al, and laughed at his valiant effort to describe why Ohio was still up for grabs by Mitt!
Really, sad......but He's probably trying to figure out an explanation that he'll give to the billionaires about their big financial loss.
Tax write off?........
Romney never overcame ...... being Romney.
AlaskaGirl-759554
Thanks Guys! There were so many comments posted on the "Victory" pages that I had to wait until now to get my voice heard! Worth the wait
AlaskaGirl,
It's never too late. This thing is gonna go on for a long time. I heard a tune on the radio the other day that filled me with inspiration.
Ready or Not Here We Come One Nation Under A Groove
FORWARD
But, but, what about Benghazi??????
Reason has prevailed!
God Bless America!!
FORWARD!!!
The ironic part is that GWB tried to make inroads with the Latino community, but the ultra right wing, evangelical, dare I say racist portion of the GOP fought him tooth and nail.
FirstRead Headline: "Romney never overcame bailout opposition"?
Huh? He never overcame his shifting positions, either. Nor did he overcome his "47%" remark. Or his "[college-bound students should] shop around" as a means to lowering the cost of their education. Or his suggestion that we should stand aside and let foreclosures bottom out. Or his . . . . The list goes on and on and on.
It was the constant, blatant lying and the 47% comment. People heard that and knew he believed what he was saying to his "peers."
Taking one more victory lap, this afternoon with my observations from the middle of the midwest:
1. Men need to quit talking about women's reproduction. It is a LOSER topic for you. I don't care what your G-d tells YOU - keep it to yourself.
2. As evidenced by the incredible GROUND game that our community organizer pulled off - Republicans must now CONSIDER that Dems are not lazy and they CLEARLY work hard! Very hard! and then they dig deep and work even harder than before, when they believe in the 'management'!
3. In an ironic way, it came down to EDUCATION and EDUCATED estimates! The Republicans will absolutely have to invest in some brains; because Karl's has done FAILED them! Math Geeks are SEXY! Oh and calculators are CHEAP!
4. But to contradict myself, just this once: Apparently 47% really IS larger than 50%bwaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhha
5. There are different types of businessmen and some are certainly better equipped to deal with a diverse constituency. Mitt Romney wasn't one of them. Business owners that care about the human condition and the human consequence of their actions exist. They should be lauded. Sadly, I don't believe the Republican candidate ever looked at a single balance sheet and considered a human cost to his behavior. Not even remotely presidential.
6. Self deportation is NOT a reasonable response to issues affecting the rising Latino population. Florida may forever be changed. 75% voted Dem! Again, refer to point #3. Math matters.
7. When we talk about Global Climate, Global Markets and Global Changes - these are BIG. Bigger than your obvious limited grasp. Bigger than stale, male and pale. You really should pay attention. Science matters.
8. If Hurricane Sandy allowed people to see President Obama as Presidential, compassionate AND on top of things - AND it swayed even one vote, we can calmly state that President Obama IS the answer to prayers! Don't forget Hurricane Isaac caused delays for the RN Convention. Aren't hurricanes Acts of G-d? John McTernon & Pastor Luke Robinson seem to think so,...
9. The International face of our country MATTERS! We reject Cowboy Diplomacy, the Bush Doctrine and any other 'shoot first, ask questions (or plant evidence) later' behavior. It's OUR country and OUR image and we really don't want you jacking with it.
10. We survived eight years of Bush, you will indeed survive eight years of Obama!
Romney didn't lose because he opposed the auto bailout.
Romney lost because voters did not believe he had a heart. We couldn't find any evidence of one.
Can we just forget about him now?
old man,
In the end, the BEST man won! *WOOT*
He knows we have his back!
Romney lost because?.........Because it became impossible to tell WHO Mr. Romney was and which one would show up at each new occasion...................The man is a skilled LIAR as others have already pointed out and if that video with his true feeling about 47% of Americans did not surface he might be president today....................scary!
Amen, Kaybeetoys!
Shout out to Bev in Chicago: I'm not going anywhere! This is the place to Rock the president!
Mitt Romney: Not even one and done!
Obama/Biden: OH YES WE DID! 4 more years!
There seems to be a lot of you saying that Romney lost because you could not figure out who he was or that he had no soul. Do y'all really believe that or do you just like to kick a man when he is down?
If you're kicking, you should stop because it's mean.
If you really believe what you are saying then you have not been paying attention. I'm no Obama fan but I'm not blind to his good qualities. Romney has many many good qualities.
Your guy won and your happy, I get it. But stop lying about a good man who only wanted to help his country. Most politicians go to Washington to get rich. Romney went there to serve.
Despite trying to lie his way out Mitt, the piece of crap, couldn't get the voters of Ohio to believe that black was white. He opposed the bailout and then said that it wasn't a bailout, but the same bankruptcy that he called for! Elephant manure!
Hey, Alaska Girl!!
We have waited a very long time and worked very hard to get to this day, November 7, 2012, the day when we can FORGET the name Willard Mitt Romney. I am sooo ready for that brand of Romnesia!
Willard was never presidential material. He only wanted the power and the glory, and he failed. He fell flat on his handsome plastic face.
He will never hold public office, he will never be respected as a leader, and he will never matter. He is officially irrelevant. His name will end up as nothing more than a footnote in the history books.
We finally get to forget about him! We finally have peace and quiet: no more of his lies, no more of his robotic mincing walk, his phony smile, no more of his 'lovely' wife.
Goodbye, Mittens! Off to Switzerland you go! Soak yourself in a bathtub full of champagne. Ride up and down in your car elevator. Get yourself some new underwear...the magic is gone.
And please, for pity's sake STFU!!!
Rhino40,
I understand that from an individual perspective, Mitt Romney may be a good man based on what you are posting. But the problem was the positions he was taking throughout the primary and general election were so far from one another and ever changing that these character traits (which I agree are admirable) were being questioned.
I think if Mitt Romney ran a campaign that did not pander to the extreme right wing and was more positioned as a moderate then he probably would have won the election.
But for me everytime I watched his speeches or the debates, it seemed that he wanted to scream, "This in not the real me! My positions are not as extreme as I have to be to get the blessing of the extreme elements of the party, but I can't do anything about it! Please let me be me!"
I guarentee, if he would have done that he definitely would have gotten a significant support for those who voted for Obama. But the problem is the extreme element in the Republican party. They only way you can get their support is being more extreme than the other guy and at the same time alienating the general populace.
This is what happens when a party nominates an artificial plastic man rather that someone will ideals and passion who can draw thousands to his rallies. Whether those ideals are right or wrong, at least they are real.
Rhino40 -
Faithfully married over 40 years - so what? Many people are
Raise 5 sons - with help from nannies and maids - but again, so what?
Built a successful business for himself - to hell with the people whose lives he destroyed in the process
Saved the Olympics - with help from the Federal Government
Governed a state where they absolutely hate him - the state legislature overturned more than half of the items he tried to pass and he raised fees on the people over 500 times - he couldn't even carry the state
He donated thousands of hours and millions of dollars to the Mormon church - which is required should he want to move up in its leadership - not truly charity when it's required
He tried to give back through public service so he could do one better than his father - who he is no match for - not half the man his father was
Now we'll see how true his desire to help is - will he work with the President if given the chance? THAT will be his true test of his character.
Congratulations Mr President ! Many have said Mitt Romney lost because of his lies. I'm sure this contributed to his loss. Yet, many believed his lies, or pretended to.
I believe that our President is just the better person for the job. I believed it the first time I ever heard him give the keynote speech at the Democrat convention in 2004. I was on the phone calling my friends saying turn on your television. This guy will be president some day. They thought I was crazy ( these were my black friends) at the time. After all the years I'm still crazy and my wonderful POTUS was reelected.
Thank you to all at FR who have educated me and reinforced my long held beliefs. I would especially like to thank Feisty, Jody,Iowa, David Walker ( such beautiful writing) Independent Redneck ( brilliant, joyful) Tomas Grande, Pat Boston, Layton, Gingerbreadmama, Seeking Sanity, Alaska Girl, Newdaydawning, and how I wish Phinephancy was here posting today. We will never meet, but know that I appreciate all of your postings.
Feisty you appear to take a lot of heat on FR. I've read some pretty awful comments about you. But, you know what? I think I know you just from reading between the lines. I suspect that you haven't always had it easy. You've had some challenges in life. Who hasn't? You have a good heart and I believe you have helped a lot of people in your life. Keep up the great work. I will continue to check in.
Best Wishes and sorry for the length of this ! :)
Ultimately, lying, cheating, menacing, deceiving, and suppressing catches up with a Party.
Heck of a job, Party of No.
Rhino, I understand what you are saying, but I do think Obama supporters deserve to celebrate and gloat maybe just a little.
But you are right, we should not resort to mean-spiritedness. We really do need to try to work towards a united America.
And I disagree with you regarding Mitt Romney's integrity and philanthrophy.
No person of honor would have manipulated the truth, twisted the facts, told such whoppers, ping-ponged on issues, or misled so many of his fellow citizens. Those last claims Romney made about it was "his idea to let Detroit have a managed bankruptcy, etc." were blatantly outrageous. I don't believe anybody in either party actually fell for that.
You may not have liked everything that Obama said, nor did I agree with 100% of his decisions, but at least President Obama had the guts to be honest with what his plans were and was consistently up-front with the voters.
As for his giving nature, I find it hard to believe that a man who was caught on secret video calling 47% of Americans freeloaders could possibly have any empathy for the poor. If Mitt Romney gave to charities, I imagine they were all connected somehow to the Mormon church.
Rhino,
If you talk to the majority of the people in the state Romney "saved" you'll find they still haven't recovered from his "leadership."
That successful company he built was built by putting a lot of people out of work.
I don't doubt the man has some good qualities, unfortunately for him he was unable to communicate them to the American people. Communication is an essential skill for the president.
I'll show you MEAN: Mean is a man who forces a sick dog to ride on the roof of his car. Mean is a man who drives companies out of business and throws workers out in the street to make a buck for himself. Mean is a man who calls our president an apologist in the midst of an attack on our embassy in Cairo, blaming all those frightened people for trying to diffuse a tense situation. Mean is a man who supported the war in Vietnam, but only for others to fight. Mean is a man who expects the struggling middle class to pay a huge percentage of our income in taxes while he pays half the rate we do. Mean is a man who hides his money in offshore accounts instead of investing it in America. Mean is a man who stands by while others lie about our president or attack a young woman and call her a slut.
You might think Mitt Romney is a good man. I do not. I think he is an evil man.
Darn...I knew I'd forget someone....Amy Portland Me and Joane PA, and Clara KCMO !
Romney is a has been, he needs to suck up beer with Palin and cry about why America hates him.
He needs to go back to being a corporate raider and excessive billing to the taxpayer for his millions of annual income. That is where he fits in best. Palin, no one knows where she fits in it sure isn't politics. Maybe she should also just continue to live off the taxpayer.
Mitch McConnell is a colossal failure to make President Obama a 1 termer. So the Mandate is front and Center and if they don't shape up and work with him in the next 4 there is going to be another Shellacking in midterms and this time it will be a tidal wave over the Republicans!
Patricia,
You made me cry!
Your women's intuition is fine-tuned, I can't express how much I appreciate your generous words!
It has been a pleasure standing with you in our fight to get the right man, for the right job at the right time re-elected!
The Republicans still don't get it. All Democrats have to do to beat a Republican candidate is let them talk. Sooner or later they will make a stupid statement that be the seeds of their demise.
I got a great bumper sticker saying "The TEA Party?? White Whine Party is more like it."
For romney all this began as bad behavior when America discovered that he had strapped his dog, seamus, on the top of his car. that arrogant, selfish, uncaring behavior carried on right into the present. Well, as it goes, every dog has its day. Revenge is a dish best served cold, eh seamus?
ROOF, ROOF!!!
I agree with Rhino, I have nothing against Mr. Romney.
The real issue is the Republican Party as it is now. Romney - a fairly moderate Republican - had to move so far to the right to win his party's candidacy that he couldn't move back to the center without completely flipping on those issues.
It's John McCain all over again, the current Republican Party destroys their candidates and makes them un-electable.
Or at least that's how this centrist independent sees the current political landscape. Congratulations President Obama.
"Romney never overcame bailout opposition"
Or
"Auto workers payed by Obama with taxpayer money surrendered their votes as promised"
Do you really think Ohio wouldn't have went to Romney if he was the one who handed them $500 billion?
Unions have always voted for whoever pays them, always will.
For all my FR friends, whose names are too numerous to mention. You know who you are.
This song is dedicated to you, and to our dear departed Phine. Cheers!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDtzsFsWSho
Feisty...big girls don't cry ! Except when we do :) I cried last night. I take my politics personally and was very emotional. Don't you wish Molly Ivins and Ann Richards were still around? Love those women. You have their character.
And after we celebrate President Obama's re-election, all his supporters need to keep an eagle eye on everything that is going on in congress as well as your own congressional district. Know who your representatives are and follow what they say and how they vote. From things I am hearing, the President will still have a fight on his hands to get things done.
We need to stay on top of the issues, be vocal with our support, write letters, send emails, sign petitions, etc. In fact, it would not hurt to send a note to them today while the election is fresh in their minds. We need to send a message loud and clear to every GOP/TP politician and say that we expect them to cooperate and compromise for the common good of all our citizens, not just their own little selfish agendas.
And let them know that every time they block the President, they are blocking every American citizen that voted for him too.
Excellent point, silverton!!
kaybeetoys,
I am sorry to see that you were obviously born without a brain, or, if you have one, it functions at a 2% capacity.
alan, you've been reported for violating code of honor.
I couldn't stop smiling all day even though I work in a bank surrounded by really sad Republicans. I am still not believing how wonderful this elections has been. Not only the fact that our President won but also all the crazies around the country that lost. My faith and pride in the country are at a new high.
Where are Caesar and the rest of the haters?
kaybeetoys, your post about "mean" was so totally right on. You painted Romney as he has been portrayed, some say very unfairly, but I am with you on this. You quite correctly characterized this man and by doing so you very clearly pointed out that this was never a man that could or should be president of the United States.
I am only too happy to forget the Romney clan. I am thankful that I will never have to hear his evil laugh, see his smug smile, listen to his condescending tone, and see him walk(weirdly....could be an enlarged prostate! Ewww). What I am most thankful for? I won't have to see or hear Annie again!
Shout out to Patricia: Thanks! Means alot! Right back at ya!
Oh, kimH, poor thing! That had to be hard! Were you tempted just the least little bit to shout "Obama!"? I sure would have been! The haters have been lurking, taking little pot shots here and there, but most of them have been laying low, or have gone onto stories with little comments on them, so they have been seen there commiserating with each other in their normal way.....hate, racism, etc.
Obama/Biden: OH YES WE DID!
alan, my dear fellow, I'm not easily insulted. Can't you do any better than that? ;)
@Rhino:
You forgot to add "Hypocrisy" and "Pathological Lying" to Romney's list of virtues.
Herbert Hoover tried the same BS in 1929-1932 and it worked out just as well as it did for Romney. Some people never learn.
Last night Romney learned that business and government are two different things. For Romney in business he could massage the truth and outright lie with abandon. His lackeys and investors just accepted it and said, "Yes Mr. Romney sir, whatever you say."
But it doesn't work like that in the American public. Government isn't a corporation, it is the people, even though sometimes it seems to behave like a business. Romney's supporters may have accepted his lies, but they didn't really buy into them either. But more importantly, the majority of the stakeholders didn't buy the lies. In fact Romney's lies just stirred up a hornets next that might have otherwise remained docile. Attempts to pull off a hostile takeover through voter suppression just backfired and helped bring out more than 30 million early voters, many of whom otherwise may have just stayed at home had he not tried to poke at them with the suppression stick. Romney actually helped wake us up and got us angry.
All that aside it wasn't just about Romney losing it by his misguided tactics, it was more about all of us winning it by working hard at it.
I notice today a big shortage of right wing posters and I really do feel for them. They were as sure as sure can be. It has to hurt. But hey fellow victors, lets do the right thing and not rub it in. Lets enjoy our victory with dignity and reach out a hand to the other side. We should have learned from their example, we can't do it alone. If our victory is going to manifest itself into real progress, we need the other side to at least come along with us even though it will be very difficult for them. We need to understand that. Let them lick their wounds and re-think their positions in thoughtful reflection and lets take the high road and not kick then while they are down.
Hi Kim,
Little seizure is currently serving his second time out in the last month! Although, I do believe we have seen the last of his sorry ass!
Cowards tend to run when they get their teeth handed to them! ;o)
Excellent comment. I'm a little concerned though that some people are simply incapable of working together with us for the good of the country. We may have to do the work of both sides to get anything accomplished.
Please, conservatives, we need your voices and your perspective. We need you to seek truth and turn away from lies. Your side has valid points, but please make them rationally and leave out the bitterness.
Personally, I believe any candidate loses because there are too many Americans who aren't willing to take the time to actually do the research and find out from a first hand source a candidate's stance on any particular issue. It seems that most people are all too happy to swallow whatever is fed to them with a grin and contented sigh. As a result, whoever is able to more effectively demonize the opposition ends up the victor. It's why campaigning invariably turns negative. The large and frequent gaffes only aid those negative characterizations.
Take for example Governor Romney's characterization as a flip-flopper. A large number of his stances are so nuanced that what looks like a flip-flop is due to an often overlooked and subtle difference. One such example would be opposition to the President's stimulus package, but support for a stimulus package. Incidentally, I was perusing politifact.com and recently discovered that they have a Truth-o-meter section dedicated to half-flips and full-flops. Given the Governor's reputation, I would have expected his position changes to vastly outnumber President Obama's. Suffice it to say that such an expectation was about as far off the mark as Republican zealots predicting a landslide in favor of Governor Romney.
Regardless of how people voted, complaining about the result isn't going to help anyone. That just gives way to more partisan bickering, a divided country, and a gridlocked Washington. There always has to be compromise from both sides to see anything accomplished. I hope that President Obama gives serious consideration to some of the items Governor Romney introduced for stimulating the economy and helping to bring down the deficit. Even if he does modify them to create something he personally finds more palatable, the deficit and total national debt is a huge problem that needs to be addressed, and he was less than stellar at doing so his first term.
Beeslemaestro,
Romney's nuances, as you call them, included ping-ponging on the education issue so fast that my neck was getting sore. He changed positions at least four times on cutting education, then not cutting Pell Grants, then cutting tax deductions parents with kids in college, and then some kind of voucher system. And I was paying attention because I have two sons in college.
And his running mate, Ryan, certainly appeared rather floppy on the stimulus package when he chimed in with the rest of the GOP/TP choir criticizing the "failed stimulus" only to be called out on it in his debate with Joe Biden when the world found out about Ryan sending two letters to the VP requesting funds from the stimulus to help his own home state of Wisconsin -- which he received. He did not even act ashamed to have that truth revealed on national tv.
Please do not ever try to make us think that we were imagining all those flip-flops and more. They will always be preserved in the history books.
Romney/Ryan were the Party of the Chameleon.
Mother Cluster Duck....Priceless. There are a lot of tails wagging in doggie heaven today...hell...even my tail's still waggin'!!
Silverton - I agree. I actually don't mind opposition in Congress - but if someone opposes legislation, they need to explicitly state why and what changes they are willing to propose to make it acceptable to their constituents. Anyone blocking legislation for the sake of blocking legislation should be censured. Compromise and alternative ideas are good, throwing a fit because someone is not a member of your party is bad.
kimH;
...I'm guessing Karl Rove has had to lay them off while figuring out how to explain to his backers that they paid billions for almost the same government we had before (a little bit worse for their team). America's response to Citizens United...throw away a whole lot of money for nothing!!! HA HA!! Seems to me that it's the Republicans that are better at redistributing the wealth....accidentally, of course!!
Mitt, it doesn't pay to bet against the "47 percent," of American workers, in Motor City, USA.
You've just illustrated my point, silverton. He can have opinions about different issues within the broader scope of education, and still not be a flip-flopper. Pell Grants are only related to tax deductions for parents of collegiate children in that they are both encompassed by the broader topic of education. It was the difference between those subtopics that was frequently contrasted and used to portray the flip-flop caricature. Why many people still can't understand the difference mystifies me.
There were some areas where he did indeed reverse his position (Roe v. Wade comes to mind), but not nearly as many as his reputation would suggest. And Ryan's request for stimulus funds had no bearing on whether the stimulus was successful or a failure. It may have made him look a bit hypocritical, but not as someone who reversed course on an issue.
You're free to believe as you will, but your post didn't contain a single example of an issue where either candidate reversed course. Instead, it illustrated just how much that characterization has been exaggerated. Take comfort, however, in knowing that Governor Romney will not be running again, so your personal distaste for him will not be renewed come 2015.
@1NewDay:
Reach out to the Conservatives? Um, NO! If there is one fatal mistake that Liberals have made repeatedly throughout history, it is reaching out to bigots with reason and compassion, when neither reason nor compassion are languages that bigots can understand. Have you read these forums for the last year? Have you seen the level of violence and hate spewing off their tongues toward everyone who isn't one of them? No, there is no "reaching out" to people who want to oppress and to destroy millions upon millions of people. There is no "reaching out" to people who, if offered a handshake, reach for their guns. Liberals need to abandon their policy of tolerance when it comes to those who are intolerant if they hope not to return to the Dark Ages.
Voters don't like to be schmoozed, looked down on or thought of as ignorant. The Mitten learned this lesson the hard way. He never did (nor could) relate to the lower 99% - it just wasn't in his nature. So all the BS about the only reason he was running was because "there are people in this country who are SUFFERING!" That ad turned my stomach, and made me more determined not to vote for such a liar.
When, actually, it was Big Bird's revenge. DON'T MESS WITH BIG BIRD!
Patricia 48
I am so honored to be named in the company of folks you listed.
I do hope you someday have the opportunity to meet our Feisty face to face! She is a beautiful person and I am proud to list her amongst my closest friends. Her humor and wit are only a parcel of her awesomeness.
She is incredibly loyal and she handles the venom directed at her with all kinds of STYLE. It's obvious the tighty righties fixate on her because they have nothing better to do than to attempt to tear her down. They just don't seem to get that their behavior just fuels the fire. Feisty, sent with love, soul sistah OH and TAT sistah, too! One of my favorite memories, evah!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
PS. Dick Morris could be Marcus Bachmann's 'twin' - or down low secret lover? hmmm, things to ponder.
Let's face it ... Obama was ready for a fall!!!!
BUT ... Romney was guilty of PANDERING to the first degree ... and EVERYBODY knew it!!!!
He was pandering to the tea party and the idiots at Fox concerning the auto bailout ...
Little did he know that Obama would make the right call and withstand a four year blockade by the Republicans ... and in the end ... destroy his eight year pandering barrage to obtain the White House ... sad!
26 billionaires tried to buy this election. They did not succeed. Why? Obama had a billion dollars. Where did it come from? The average donation to the DCCC was $35. That's it! It was us 47%ers that donated that billion dollars and it was the 47%ers who put their boots on the ground.
As the infamous character, Balkie Bartokamos once said, "Well paint me golden and call me calf". Math doesn't have a liberal bias after all.
My life is better than it was four years ago. I can only believe that it will be even better four years from now.
Poor people aren't leeches.
Mexicans aren't illegal.
Gays aren't abominations.
Muslims aren't terrorists.
And women, aren't kept in binders.
What these elections have proven is that an uneducated electorate, which is fed by a liberal media, will elected a candidate whose only platform is lies about his opponent. Mitt Romney NEVER said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." That quote belongs entirely to the NY Times Editorial Staff. What Romney said in his op-ed was as follows:
President Obama, Joe Biden and the media consistently said that Romney said "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" and opposed federal assistance, when the exact opposite was true. They also refused to cover the fact that President Obama took both General Motors and Chrysler through a managed bankruptcy in 2009.
The American public has for years complained about how negative campaigns are and how Congress does not get things done, but it is our own fault. When we elect candidates that use these tactics, we deserve exactly what we get from those we vote for.
Our government is not a spectator sport. It takes work to research what is actually going on so we can hold our elected officials responsible for the things that the do. We cannot expect the media to tell us the unbiased truth. We need to do that for ourselves. When we elect candidates based upon which party they belong to or the color of their skin, we our failing at our responsibilities as citizens of this republic. It is time for the American public to wake up and take our vote as the sacred responsibility that it is and is yearned for by so many people around the world who wake up every day under the dictates of tyrants and dictators.
The next step we should all take is to boycott Fox News's sponsors. That news media rag and its biased, unprofessional reporting has divided our country and misled millions of gullible, yet well-meaning citizens, turning them into deaf and blind followers.
I have seen boycotting sponsors work years ago with the Parents Television Council when objectionable tv programs were aired during family hour. We would write or email the companies that advertised during those shows and threaten to stop using their products or services (and follow thru, too, if they did not comply). It was amazing to see how quickly things changed once their pocketbook was hit.
Fox News has done more damage with its prejudiced, manipulative views than any other negative source in our nation. It is tantamount to brainwashing.
Awww Clara, the "water works" are flowing again!
Yes, we are forever "inked" together! ☺
I ♥ you too my very cherished friend!
I don't see any articles harping on the fact that Florida refuses to declare the winner. It's a disgrace to those in Democratic districts that were forced to endure six hours in line in an attempt to suppress their vote not to have their voice heard that President Obama won Florida.
This refusal to announce President Obama the winner is just another attempt to disenfranchise these voters in the future and to make them feel that they do not count and will not count. We should be discussing this.
You might feel that it's not important because the election has already been decided but you are wrong. This is another tactic of voter suppression so these people will not turn out for the next election. It's deliberate and wrong.
Screw Florida,...they have rendered themselves irrelevant. Next election will swing even more blue and eventually they will have to acknowledge that they couldn't silence the NEW majority - former minorities!
Denial is only ONE stage of grief for them.
The demographics for the Democrats are simple to understand, they are voting for the party that will take from someone else and give it to them. Tax the rich more to buy the votes of single women, Hispanics, and blacks is what the Democrats are all about. We have been sending people to Washington that first and foremost take care of themselves, so why shouldn't the voters have the same opinion? It is a whole new demographic that now asks what can the country do for me, instead of what they can do for their country or themselves. The Democratic Party and very much the Obama ideology is to expand the hand out gimme crowd. As if there are enough rich to tax, or money we can borrow to sustain that selfishness for long. But it is another step toward socialism, and that seems to be what liberals are all about.
Romney never overcame his bailout comments, his anti-feminism, his homophobia, his anti-immigration policies, his Bain role as corporate-raider, his disdain for half the electorate, his tax evasion, his patrician arrogance, his inability to speak plain American English, his scary robotic behavior and laughter, his mendacity, his soulless ambition, his lack of vision or principle, his beholden dependence on big corporate money ... but the real problem was Sandy ... ya think?
Clara - We have, as our Governor in Florida, a true Dick Head. He did all he could do to nullify the election and will continue to do all he can to make things difficult. I hope he eventually ends up where he should have been for the last couple of years, behind bars.
kim
Yeah, I feel your pain, sistah! I never understood how the Medicare Fraudster managed to get elected? My grandma used to tell the parable of the snake and the frog crossing the river,...
Didn't floridians KNOW what he was when they 'picked' him up?
It was in the papers and in the news but he got swept in during tea party collective insanity of 2010 along with Marco Rubio. I think it is now a case of buyers remorse and I'm pretty sure he won't be re-elected. Trust him to do as much damage as possible in the mean time. Notice his crazy eyes - like Michelle Bachmann.
RIP America...
Hello Europe!!
Care for some cheese with that whine?
Maxx Power - your ignorance is only overshadowed by your overwhelming need to post it for all to see.
I always wondered where the expression "right till the bitter end" came from.
Smile, Maxx. America's gonna be just fine. Or isn't that what you want?
[RIP America...Hello Europe!!]
Oh poo...get over it already...we're not going anywhere.
Oh - Boehner is on television - from Capitol Hill. Unfortunately can't hear what he's saying - but does look slightly shell-shocked!
Max,
Before you leave for Europe you will need a passport.
Seeking,
Trust me, you aren't missing anything! lol
PS: He looks sober for a change!
Feisty, Sober? Haha! I bet he is just getting started! I predict he will be in a drunken stupor within hours of his press conference.
Romney never overcame the bailout crap because he straight up lied and then doubled and tripled his efforts. Sorry, Romney, we do not abide a person running for this country who would look us straight in the eye and lie. You underestimated Ohio, and you underestimated this country. We are not all dumb!
Delta is ready when you are, Maxx.
Hey Alaskagrrrrr!
I'm a little surprised at the redness of your state this morning... Is that from the general spanking the party took? lol...
I thought about you up there during the time-zone challenged reporting last night. I loved the way they tried to make it last and still had it called by like 8:20 Pacific time. I couldn't resist popping over to Fox for a few just to see the look on the painted man's face and hear all the little failed weather-girls stepford-reporting from under their bleach helmets... It was glorious.
Boehner should be a hoot for a while now. Obama said he would sit down and confer with Romney on issues. Personally I think he has enough important things to do without calling Romney in every other day to ask him what he thinks NOW.
In truth, I nearly cried when I saw the shift and the call. America is alive and well with <50% simpletons wandering about it.
Maxx, don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way to Europe.
Uh Maxx - Europe just called - yeah, all of it - said "no thank you" - try China!
Oh, SS, there you go again, making me laugh myself into hysterics! I am so frigging giddy today there is nothing any of the teabangers could say to me that would cause the smile on my face to disappear. I know teabangers, you'd like the barf bag now! HA!
@Maxx,
Schprechen sie Deutsch?
Auf weidersehn!
FORWARD!
JoAnne in PA -
Actually....
“The end of the cable [on the ship] is the “bitter end”. The common expression, “reached the bitter end”, refers to a situation of extremity and has nothing to do with lees and dregs and other unpalatable things. It means literally that someone has “got to the end of his rope.”” – Clifford W. Ashley, rope & knots expert, Ashley Book of Knots, pg288, 1944
...so really, what sort of explanation DID you expect from a Scout? =)
Still applies here though, as they (GOP) have run out of old wormy apples to throw at us...and having to let go of the rope, they are now adrift (stuck in the TeaParty ebb tide) & without an anchor (
sanityreasonability)... Dang - I think I have to change my ID to CallMeIshmael or Queequeg after posting that.Big night for Equal-Rights (LGBT Marriage equality), too!
OBAMA/BIDEN !! Oh, Yes We Did!!!
OMG, Chick! I was on my way to drunkenness when it was called and I swear a few of us were hugging and screaming and laughing all at the same time! It was a blast! I looked at the clock and remember thinking to myself that the time called last night was not too far off from the call in 2008. Chuck Todd said later that the time called last night was only 12 minutes later than 2008. I have the time difference on my side, so we are four hours behind the east coast. We have our own time zone here because Alaska ROCKS! Yes, this state is blood red. I am surrounded by a sea of red. Luckily I have a few lib friends! But, I am proud to say that I was one of over 90K to vote for president Obama.
I was frantically marking off the states O for Obama and R for Romney, which in part was dumb because most are obvious, but hey, when you are getting drunk and having fun.......Anyway, a victory for us all, especially us! So glad not to be one of the losers that post on here about Romney winning! HA!
Romney never could persuade people that their eyes and ears were wrong. That's why I call him Wrongme. He was wrong about the auto bailout, the 47%, wrong about not paying taxes for 9 years and thinking he could hide it, wrong about what the middle class even IS ($200,000 to $250,000 or even less) - the list goes on. It would be easier to name where he got it. 0
I actually felt bad for some of those 'enthusiastic' supporters at the party that went horribly wrong last night. These are not bad people; I think they have a good heart. They are badly misinformed because they are not educated. Knowledge is power, and most should have known their guy wasn't real. They also should have understood that Wrongme is not that great of a communicator, with his stilted walk and wooden mannerisms. Who would expect a majority of Americans to buy that load? Only the extreme fanatics of the right wing base. Those few were distributors of this fake enthusiasm, and we saw some of them here. The majority of the hijacked republican party bought into their hype. They accepted the demonization of Obama, the righteousness of their cause, and the certitude that Wrongme would sweep into power, implement his vague, nonsensical policies on Day One, and everything would be right again. That's what lack of information will do to you. So, I don't rub it in. We got them back today by throwing their 'Romney Tsunami' bold predictions back at them. That's ok. But the time has come to abandon the partisanship and get to work. JFK said, "Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our own responsibility for the future."
BTW, many of our phrases are from sailing. Three sheets to the wind is when all the sails are catching the wind, tipping the ship way over. (leaning, drunk).
Always a Scout - Thanks! I must confess I never made it all the way to page 288 in that book, but I like to learn!
I am liking the sailing analogies much better than the fight or football analogies.
Always a Scout,
I would go with Queequeg. Although I think the best opening line of any book is" Call me Ismael"
BTW, a really good read is Ahab's Wife.
Yes indeed we did, Scout!
A shout-out to my friend JoAnne in PA... we did it girl!! The Keystone State held fast! I know you worked your butt off, same as I did. Cheers to us and to FOUR MORE YEARS!!
Yes you did, just look at the stock market.
There are often points in world history where nations have the chance to salvage their future, America's was just passed by those hoping to salvage their welfare checks.
pjam09 - either you don't understand how the market works or you're intentionally lying. The market is reacting to what is happening in Europe!
seekingsanity - Keep seeking, someday you might find some. What is happening in Europe is no different than it was yesterday, and gun sales are not driven by Europe.
If I may make a suggestion, pjam? We worked for what we believe in. We fought for our right to vote, and to keep our country in the hands of the people. Ain't nobody getting welfare here.
Instead of complaining and spreading your useless B.S. and your doom and gloom, turn off Fox News, get up off your butt and get out there to work for what you believe in, same as we did.
I wish you all the best. Our country needs everyone working together, so row with us or STFU.
BEST Moment of the evening; Sarah Palin starting to tell Greta Van S how she felt about things.
Like she had a mouth full of bad seafood.
The sooner, the better. Europe rocks, America sucks!
...she's used to Todd, so it couldn't have been THAT unfamiliar.
Most of Europe's implemented Romney and Ryan's ideas of belt-tightening and axing budgets. Look what's its gotten them. High debts, high unemployment, riots, and civil unrest. ...some remedy.
Now look at America. Our economy's recovering, unemployment is slowly falling, and manufacturing is coming back under the Obama Administration. Now why is that? Despite the GOP Tea Party's "Do Nothing" and their, "Destroy the economy to make Obama look bad," and their endless filibustering in Congress, and despite all of these insults we non-conservatives had to suffer ...we're pulling through.
Just imagine how bad it would have been for America's people and its economy, had we let the brown-shirted gun nuts in the Republican Tea Party have their way with their cowardly yellow flag of a coiled snake that wants to kill you, flying high over all of the nation.
Fortunately, it didn't happen, and we voted a handful of the worst ones, OUT.
------------------------------------------------
FORWARD
Europe? I'm thinking about the south of France. The Pyrenees Mountains, the Bay of Biscay, The Med, the Alps, fine wine.............
And the very best socialized health care in the whole wide world. As opposed to America's 37th place for profit health care system.
Take a look at the bankrupt state of California. Where voters decided to pass a bill to tax the rich more to help pay for all the failed liberal social engineering that has the state ready to plunge off a fiscal cliff. As if giving that state more money won't just mean more spending, and pretty soon they will be voting to tax the air they breath as fiscal sanity is nowhere to be found.
Obama has no hope of success. Nothing has changed in Washington, Obama has no new ideas or policy initiatives to get us on the right track. Obama believes in redistribution, and that is not going put our economy on the right track. Our debt will skyrocket under Obama, unemployment will go higher, and at the end of four years not only will Obama go down as the worst president ever, but it will be the end of liberalism.
There are varied reasons for President Barack Obama's re-election to a second term:
because his administration is the opposite of dysfunctional?
because the country didn't slide into a Great Depression, following the financial crisis of 2008?
because he withdrew troops from Iraq, as he had promised?
because Bin Laden is dead and Detroit is alive?
because House Republicans have the lowest approval rating in legislative history?
because Tea Party governors elected in 2010 are terribly unpopular?
because Americans appreciate intelligence, integrity and graciousness in a leader?
The answer to all of your questions is "No".
The two reasons for Obama's second term are;
1. Racist voting from the race Obama is perceived to be (despite being half-white) and the race he panders to, Hispanics.
2. Government dependent leeches more concerned about a few "free" dollars being put into their pockets today than the entire future of generations of Americans.
The Demographics don't lie.
Keep it up pjam09.
There is an election in two years. Please keep on vocal hating. As you see, it really helped our side this time. We would hate to lose your help. With your continued support Democrats can win back the House in 2014.
:) Thanks !
Amen, Eric! The more pjam and the gloomy band of teabaggers post, the more America realizes exactly what they are...and the better that works for civilized society!
Pjam "The Demographics don't lie" BUT YOU DO. We have had enough of your negativeness.
Just my two cents worth, but I think the biggest thing Mitt Romney never overcame was just being Mitt Romney.
I think you have said it all JoAnne!
JoAnne,
Simple but profound!
Sooo True Joanne
My two cents worth:
Obama promised immigration reform promise for the second time without a plan to produce; didn't discourage entitlements; talked about lowering the debt he created, again without a plan, just words; and reinforced his health care bill that hasn't been finalized.
Another item that worked for Obama was the liberal media. He who controls the media wins the election. Now the interesting item for the media is since they created Obama, will they also take down Obama?
Bengahzi is on the horizon and the media needs something to fuel their continuation to create.
Nailed it Joanne...
I think what attracts anyone to him (besides blatant racism and a two man choice) is the fact that he appears to be a Narcissistic Buffoon. Narcissists usually aren't Buffoons and Buffoons usually aren't Narcissists... So he's really quite special. He lures you in by appearing too stupid to hold the rest of the world in such low regard.
You poor republican bubble people just don't get your facts.
Bengahzi, Bengahzi, Bengahzi!
Now 1funnygirl, feel better?
1funnygirl (you aren't but you are a pitiful excuse for a woman); the debt Obama created? How quickly your little pea brain forgets - but we expect no more from a simpleton like you. As job growth rebounds, entitlements will shrink - it works that way. President Obama clearly doesn't control the media except in your small mind.
You truly are a sore loser - but a loser none the less! Oh, here's a penny back - it wasn't worth 2 cents!
Hey, 1funnygirl...if that's two cents worth of your thoughts, we have change coming.
Unfunnygirl...
That wasn't worth two cents yesterday. Given recent developments, It should cost you like a dime to post it. Sorry he didn't lay out the detailed plans for you in his acceptance speech after the media elected him... And no, I don't think the "media" will tear him down but you can squat on Fox and watch the bobble-headed impersonators try.
Oh goodie - somebady finally brought up that HUGE CONSPIRACY Benghazi. I was afraid the Pubs had given up on it....
1funnygirl,
It's really hard to believe that anyone could be so stupid, so I'm just going to put you down as bitter about losing and call it a day.
1funnygirl: "Benghazi is on the horizon and the
mediaright wing needs something to fuel their continuation to create hate."There - fixed it for you.
Scott, Sane - Thanks for the chuckle!
Liberals celebrating the continued demise of America all because it occurs under Obama, why is nobody surprised?
They all forget that they are in the same boat with the man punching holes in the hull, even though only he has a life vest.
@pjam09:
If you don't like how democracy works, feel free to leave the country. I would suggest Europe or Canada, except that they're liberal and democratic, too, and "socialists" besides. Might I then suggest Dumb@!$%#istan? I would be willing to buy you a one-way ticket.
So 1funnygirl............we will mark you down as undecided!
(Does anyone think she will find that funny?)
RSE1
who cares if she finds it funny? we find it hilarious! thanks for the giggle.
Damn where are all the right wing nuts when you need them. I was sure they would show up with all their excuses. Man I am really sad that they did not show up today. I guess we don't get to have too much fun today.
YES WE DID
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
BIDEN/CLINTON 2016
Oh, they are around. They are keeping a low profile, going onto stories that have low comment numbers. I've seen them commiserating with each other by continued hate and racist comments and bigotry.
They're around, just not on the First Read/Newsvine pages. I found a number of them over on the MSNBC Business blog and financial blogs spouting on about the Dow dropping 300 points because the President was re-elected.
And of course they are completely ignoring the effect of the European (Greece) financial bailout and it's impact on the GLOBAL ECONOMY.
Not even 24 hrs removed from the HISTORIC re-election of President Obama and the republican/tea party opposition is back to spouting partisan rhetoric and demeaning the President again. <smh>
Alaska Girl,
they are probably also getting new NV accounts and new names and more of their stupid avatars.
LOL
Well Ret. MSgt., the democratic process was completed. I as you know, am not a fan of Obama, but the electorate has spoken. Nothing to complain about, yet.
Enjoy the feeling, for in Jan. you will see a surprise in your first retirement check, as all of us will in our first paycheck.
Can't wait until we get into the Benghazi mess, provided the AG stops it due to security issues. As a member of the military establishment, if it is found that the administration gave up four lives, will you as a former member of the military find fault with the administration?
If the republicans cared about the people they would go along with the President and agree to raising the taxes on only the 1%.
1funnygirl, are you or have you ever served in the armed forces of the United States? I ask, because you sure act as though you have some inside knowledge that is not being presented by the agencies INVESTIGATING what actually happened, when, and by whom.
You could just wait for the official findings, kinda like the 911 Report under President Bush which took a little over a year to be released, or the Bombing of the Marine Barracks in the Mid East under President Reagan which took about the same time, or the Missing Iraq WMD's report, which proved that none existed and had not existed since the Gulf War I under GHW Bush, and took two years to come out. You willing to wait until all of the investigations are completed and the final report issued, or are you looking for some Darryl Issa smackdown before December 31, 2012? You're not partisan are you?
Me thinks thou dost protest too much!
Most of the reich-wing posters have self-deported. The Mossad has reported some sightings and radio chatter just across the border in Argentina.
No Seeking, I was not a member of the military, but I do serve in a government agency that works with the military.
do I see things you don't - sure do. Can I bring them into discussion here? No. But will things come out about this administration that may change your opinion - yes it will. Many in the military establishment are irrate about the coverup. People do leak things when they want to, and numerous foks may.
first not so funny - I wasn't the one that asked about you being a member of the military. However, you see NO MORE than the rest of us - but nice try. Nothing will come out about this administration that will make me think less of it. You DON'T SPEAK FOR ANYONE IN THE MILITARY! You have a grandiose idea of who you are and what you know - no one is buying it. You are no one and know nothing.
But continue to try to convince people you're connected. Psssst - we all know you're not! And if you work in a government agency that works with the military - idiot - you'd be prohibited from posting on sites like this! Try again!
1funnygirl
I see you like wasting TAXPAYER DOLLARS ...chatting it up here!!!
1funnygirl
Not only a waste but... GOVERNMENT WASTE!!! The very thing America needs to STOP!
kimb54.1 - people who work for government agencies have their access to these sites blocked. It's standard - they don't want them leaking anything through their stupidity so they block access. Just shows how little not so funny knows about government agencies!
I like that talk about 2016 only really and legally it could be CLINTON/CLINTON Now that would be a A$$ Kicking Duo!!! And as for poor) NOT!!! Romney Boo Hoo LOSER and LIAR I could not stomach that man for years! Reminded me of a creepy uncle sorry but thats how I feel. As for Rhino what planet did you come from and would you just go back already!!! And Maxx I will sell you my plane ticket I was saving in case that pinocchio won
They're too busy guzzling moonshine or dancing with snakes in Appalachia to show up today. Grief does that to some folks, you know.
Well seeking sanity who knows all -------you are a complete fountain of trash.
As for the rest who commented, not all government workers work a 9 to 5 schedule. Some work mid-trick. And no, not all stations are located in one central location.
Seeking, those who are in the combat arms group, do have a violent dislike about leaving people behind.
You old hag, are a complete a$$ who knows nothing but you liberal comments against everyone with a different thought process than you.
You b!tch are now on my sh!it list. Watch your computer. You may receive an interesting message sometime.
Are you threatening people, "funnygirl"? Really? Is that what you are doing?
Thank you, Seeking, for bringing out the true nature of a very sad and desperate human. I do hope the powers that be at First Read are noticing...
How about some new blood? Warren/Grayson 2016
Where is Sally when we need her Funnygirl should be banned for that last comment.
1funnygirl - I'll do you one better. Just forwarded your message and threat to the FBI. If you're so connected - I'm sure they'll have serious problems with your threats. Enjoy your day!
Here's the thing about the "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt". Mitt knew he'd be running in 2012 and so could reasonably be thought to be staking out territory for himself with that opinion piece. And the philosophy he espoused----let the automakers do a conventional bankruptcy which would allow for the breakup of their unions (despite the fact that no lenders would do it) was what he believed in. Turns out that approach wasn't what the people whose livelihoods depended on the auto makers and their supply chains thought was the best.
He was true to his economic beliefs (at least I think he was) but why did he have to write such an editorial? No one was asking his opinion back then. This wound was self-inflicted.
Exactly. His piece was full of reasons that the Companies should be allowed to leave all the retirees & pensioners with nothing while the companies (and stockholders like his family was in the past) kept all their value. Typical VentureCapitalist looking out for himself and other 1%'ers...
His original peice is still on the NYT's website [] ...
To Max Power you haven't left yet??? Why do you call Karl Rove, Limpbrain, Ted Nothing and the rest of the folks that said they would be leaving and you all get on a row boat and start stroking to Europe. I am sure they are waiting to have your kind over there.
YES WE DID.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
BIDEN/CLINTON 2016
Damn where are all the right wing nuts when you need them.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Um..make up your mind..
And Hillary will not be anyone's VP...WOMAN on top...
I need them for a good laugh. I need to hear all the other excuses that I have not heard yet. Also I am easy
YES WE DID
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
CLINTON/CHRISTY 2016
The washed-up rocker Ted Nugget, a Romney endorser, says he'll be in jail or dead if the president is reelected.
I vote for Jail for him. Charge: Criminal Stupidity
There were more than a few righty posters that I told to get back with me on Wednesday when they were predicting Willard would win. Well, how did that work out for you?
dectra - Maybe Ted will take Donald Trump with him - whichever he chooses! I swear the guy totally lost his mind today!
When Obamacare becomes implemented, isn't Rush supposed to move to Costa RIca. Not that I would wish that plague on the Costa Ricans.
Well Al in visalia, my guy lost, but the republic process still is alive. That's the important thing. Let's all hope it continues.
Time will tell what will happen during the next term. Obama may have a problem with Benghazi. His AG may attempt to end the thing.
Inflation will rise; paychecks will be reduced thanks to the Obama policies. Life as we know it may change further.
But so far, the republic is still alive.
The slow deceleration of my right-wing rhetoric will lure them into a stupor as I begin to attempt to sound just a tad less wiggy with each passing post... Before long I'll be among them and they will have forgotten my former rabidity... I will hide among them and no one will be the wiser... Once everyone else abandoned me what choice did I have?
1funnygirl,
I notice you made no mention of the democratic process. Somehow the word democrat, democracy or words to that effect put a bad taste in your mouth do they?
Yes we have a republic. Most governments on this planet are republics. Not all, however, are democratic republics. Take, for example the People's Republic of China, the Korean People's Republic or the Peoples Republic of Viet Nam. These certainly are no way democracies but surely are republics. The late Soviet Union was a republic and Iran is a republic. Neither of which is or was a democratic republic. Do you favor those kind of republics?
Personally, I favor the term democratic process. Democracy or democratic refers to the choice of a majority of the people to be governed. In a democratic republic the people select those who will represent their interests. In a Communist republic, for example, a committee appoints who represents a given area in their government. In some of the banana republics where "elections" are held but only one party is much more dominant than any other they vote and the ruling party tells who won the election. Shizam it is their party that continually wins although no one is allowed to see the ballots but them. Those are indeed republics but are they democratic republics? Hardly!
In Britain, Canada, and Australia at least one house of their bicameral legislative branch is directly elected by the people. That is the House of Commons. In that sense these are democracies and those in their parlaiment are representing their area or district thus making them democratic republics. Of course you have heard of India. That is the most populous democratic republic in the world. Originally our Senate was elected by state legislatures and so we weren't all that far off the British influenced system.
So, why you have an aversion to the word democracy, democrat or democratic I can't say but you should understand what you are saying when you talk about different governments and types of government.
Baldeagle, yes, we are a democratic republic, as everyone who attended school here should already know. No big deal as you state.
And I am not concerned about the governments of world, only this one. But thanks for the lesson!
Pale, male and stale is dwindling and unless the GOP learns to embrace ALL American demographics, they will become irrelevant...heck, they already are. As Joe Scarborough put it, "we've lost the popular vote six elections in a row." Wake up, folks...we don't live in Pleasantville!
In times of trouble, Americans always rally together.
We find it immoral when someone tells us to turn our back and walk away.
That is not who we are. We are Americans.
We were kicked out of every country in the world.
We will always show compassion because of our history. We know what other countries have done to our ancestors. We remember how our ancestors were treated when they first came to America.
We are a nation built on helping one another with out blood, sweat, and tears.
That was a great group in their day..Blood Sweat and Tears.
We have Bieber now..oh god!
Agreed. Although it's kind of funny, I was JUST listening to them......
Debbie/Mike: The very first album with Al Cooper, great!
After Anne Romney made a run at the White House, some are saying we should never release the Fembots!
Who's Romney????
FORWARD WE GO
HILLARY 2016
I vaguely remember seeing a clip... I think he played Eddie Munsters lawyer or something.
Now we see how many of the posters before the election were paid shills. Where are all of the repub's predicting the landslide for Romney now??? Probably hiding under their beds holding their guns and bibles.
Good job America! We just dodged a huge bullet.
Their employer is planing the next strategy .. so the marching orders and pay checks are on hold.
Right now they are weighing whether they should remain the party of NO and see if totally trashing America will work if they double down on it .. or cooperate a little and ask the extreamist religious nuts to stay silent for awhile (or kick them out) and maybe have a chance in 2016. After all ... recent history shows us Democrats rarely stay in power 3 consecutive terms.
If I was running the GOP I know what I would do. What they will do however, we shall all see next year.
Shameless pat on the back time. My prediction from yesterday. I still say they will call Florida for Obama giving him 332 electoral votes.
Al, I totally thought of you last night as the number hit 303! I remember your comment from yesterday and I said you were being pretty optimistic, and that I would be happy with a high 270's. Kudos to you for calling it!
Al, I think you are spot on and it might also explain why Fla is still listed as "too close to call".....they are STILL trying to figure out how to "deliver" Florida for Romney....
Has anyone read finals for tea Party candidate Allen West?
Reference; http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1112/83476.html
Florida Rep. Allen West on Wednesday demanded a recount as his bid for reelection remained too close to call, with the tea party Republican trailing his Democratic opponent by fewer than 3,000 votes.
been nice if the media actually portrayed what Romney said about the Auto Bailout instead of a headline put on the article by the liberal news source plus all the other liberal media hurdles. Either way Obama wins and as a business owner who employs "many" I sure hope you are all right becasue if the economy does not pick up you can have all the social issues you want to chang but there will be no money because the "rich are going to run and hide their money from future taxation". Congratulations and even though I am trying to be a "good loser" this country is still very divided BECAUSE OF BOTH PARTIES but this Presidnet has a chance to lead and if he does not you can all take your "demographic profiles" and it will not matter if the people are poorer and angry. The "ball is in Congress's and the President's"
court and hopefully you are all not congratulatiing yourselves on another 4 years like the past 4. "GO USA" we are all in it together!!
It would be nice if you googled the video where Romney OWNED UP to the headline put on his op-ed piece instead of trying to revise history.
Paste this link into your browser and be provided the proof in Mr. Romney's own words, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDxFn5ofNWI&feature=related
With all due respect, bracey, our president HAS been leading this country for four years and he will continue to do so for another four years. Yes, I agree, this country is very divided. It really is up to all of us to make our voices heard and let BOTH parties in the House and the Senate know that we fully expect them to put aside the partisan politics and work with the president and each other, just as we expect our president to further reach out to the R base. As the president said, this is a time for nation building. We are all in this together. For the record, we are fully aware that the economy is not where it needs to be, but I for one will be quite direct and say that most of the fault lies with the likes of Boehner, Cantor, and McConnell, to name just the three. I will also speak for most of us on the left when I say that, yes, we are congratulating ourselves and we are hopeful that the next four years will be even better. Whether you agree or not, this president has made some historic changes that were a long time coming and this man had the guts and the decency and the leadership and the foresight to do it and get it done. I wish you much prosperity in your business.
AlaskaGirl, well said.
Bracey? ALL of our media is owned by 5 mega-corporations. If you honestly believe the media is "Liberal", then I have some prime swampland to sell you. What passes as "news" here in the US....isn't. We are being spoon fed selected "entertainment" fluff, passed off as "news" and believe me....what we see here in the USA is a VERY slanted and tightly controlled message. I'm not talkin' "conspiracy" bullsh__. Just a simple fact....There are no independant News Organizations left in the US....They've all be bought up and dumbed down.
Thanks, charemor.
bracey in illinois.... do you think if President OBAMA did not do his Job, you still have your business today?
I posted this yesterday and had decided it was enough. But then I read White Collar Auto's comment here this morning and I thought it'd be worth another quick post (with names added and adjusted from those who gave me good suggestions yesterday, thanks for that).
And, Frank 'Grimey' Grimes: thank you for your beautiful words. You are NOT on this list...

I'm sorry…what was that you said? Yeah. That's what I thought. You don't seem too vocal about the election results now (other than maybe just continuing to embarrass yourselves with your sore loser-ism).
And, yes, I plan on posting this again and again. And then again. And again. And adding names as I go.
If your username is on this list, it means that you have posted something during this election season that was unnecessarily mean, snide, immature, untrue, unintelligent, uninspired, or it attempted to attack others personally. I'm calling you out now because you lost. And all of that negativity caught up with you. It would be nice if you just admitted it and moved on instead of just going on with your usual stuff. I don't have high hopes for that, though.
In the mean time, why don't you guys take some time and research President Obama's record? Not opinion or analysis. Just facts. And statistics. Real numbers. In a very neutral environment, like say, c-span and/or politico. Clear your mind and seriously start reading.
I also encourage you to watch some of his policy speeches. Not campaign speeches, just ones that he has made in support of efforts such as supporting military families. Before you start watching, have a talk with yourself so that you can watch it without any pre-conceived notions or opinions. Like you've just dropped into America with the ability to vote, but with no information at all about any past or current policies, opinions, and/or politicians.
Afterward, please think about everything you've learned. Then, and this is the big step, won't you please join us?
We're ready to receive you with open arms and open minds. And even open hearts. We'd like to hear what you have to say. We're ready to collaborate, cooperate, and come together. We're ready to not hate.
You can spend the next four years stewing in anger and bad mojo, or you can work with us to get something done.
Personally, I think it's going to be really great. But if it doesn't happen, that's ok, too. Maybe you'll need the time anyway to pull yourselves back together. Or, as many of you have now said as your 'closing comment' in reaction to knowing you've lost, that you can't live in an America that would elect Mr. Obama twice so you all think you'll move somewhere else. A notion to which I say: Have a good trip!
And I look forward to the way it will be in 2016 when, after Mrs. Clinton gets the nomination, you all will be so ready and excited for a female president - not to mention a bi-partisan ticket when she asks General Colin Powell to be her running mate - that it will be the time when you finally do join us.
Or…did you want to start stretching the truth and complaining about her right now?
That's what I thought. You better get to gettin'.
Clinton '16! Even more forward!
You forgot Larry Robinson-1323081
I've been guilty a time or two of accusing a poster from the other side of posting while smoking crack. Of course, they probably really were smoking crack :-).
malarson - did you forget blamo???
Al - I'm CERTAIN more than one was smoking crack!
malarson, I suspect some of those listed are home with a 9mm in there mouths. I suppose.....well wishful thinking.
You forgot one of your very own.
malarson- you've compiled the Jackazz Hall of Fame!
Had to say it even though the sentiment is "unnecessarily mean, snide, immature, untrue, unintelligent, uninspired, or an attempted to attack others personally". Sorry to anyone that I may have offended!
Aaaaand... The Award for "Farthest Out on the Limb with the Saw in the Wrong Hand" award for screen name choice goes to... wait for it.... ElectionDayCometh!!! What? He's not here this evening?... Did he send someone to... Oh how embarrassing... I guess we'll donate his parting gifts to charity on behalf of the Democratic Party.
We have another award to announce here people... The "Offensive Stick-to-it-ive-ness" Honorary mention sash goes to "TalkToTheHand" for re-appearing in such a timely fashion right in the middle of his own dressing-down after we thought we'd dumped that after-party punch-bowl this morning!
Way to go TTTH !! Now lets just get this sash arranged over your shoulder... There you go. See how much better it is when the contestants actually show up?!!
Figured I would do my part to keep you all from getting arthritis from patting yourselves on the back and decided, what the hell. I'll just go be the punching bag so they don't hurt themselves too much. Hmmmm I'll bet I can turn in a therapy claim to Obamacare and get compensated for this.
I wonder just how many are actually the same individuals using different user names.
You can add the following to your list:
Scott, Sane in Wisconsin
malarson- you've compiled the "Jackazz" Hall of Fame
SeekingSanity
Maxx Power - your "ignorance" is only overshadowed by your overwhelming need to post it for all to see
malarson .... great list ... almost duplicate to mine ... brian1956 was the one who riled me ... almost to tears ... where are they now ....
COME OUT, COME OUT, WHEREVER YOU ARE ???? Brian1956 ???? no comment now ????
AGAIN MALARSON ... GREAT POST ! ... was a blast ... and thanks to all the ones who lifted us up when the republicans were downright NASTY ... who encouraged when disappointment set in ... and the ones who posted positive things.... David Walker, Feisty Pigtory, Thomas, Backhouse to name a few wish i could find my list of the "good ones" ... so many others ....
CONGRATULATIONS OBAMA ... CONGRATULATIONS AMERICA .... YES, WE CAN ! YES, WE DID !
Thanks, Guys!
I've added the names you've all suggested (except for my own…that would be a little counter-productive, I think, but I get your point).
I was thinking I'd just hold onto the list for next time. It might be fun to see specific names come out of the woodwork. And I really should have balanced my mojo by having the ying to this yang of a list by also having one with those who I thought wrote really interesting and thoughtful posts that made our point in a non-attacking sort of way. I just couldn't bring myself to do it before the election, though, because I was sort of consumed with the nastiness here.
I'm still surprised by it.
Keeping this list was some sort of 'action' I could do so that I didn't just sit here helplessly every time I read one of their horrible-grams. When I started doing it, about a month ago, it made me feel like I had some control over what they were spewing.
To Talk To The Hand…I don't disagree with you. That is a perfect example of the kind of uninspired post I'm talking about. Just because I vote differently than you doesn't mean I can't see the nastiness on both sides.
And, really, don't we all think that this exactly spells out what we should be striving towards in the first place?
Romney never took a position and stuck with it. THAT is why he didn't get my vote. Can't trust a man who literally changed his position on things multiple times a day, depending on who was standing in front of him.
“This is a man without a core, a man without substance, a man that will say anything to become president of the United States.” - Rudy Giuliani
“I ran against him in ’07 and ’08, I’ve never seen a guy change his position so many times, so fast, on a dime,” - Rudy Giuliani
“Americans are tired of politicians who change their beliefs to match public opinion polls. Mitt Romney needs to realize that when you try to stand on both sides of an issue, you stand for nothing.” - Rick Perry
“We could call him a serial flip-flopper” – Ron Paul
“Governor Romney has taken two positions on every issue at least” – John McCain
“You can’t be a perfectly lubricated weather vane on the important issues of the day, whether it’s Libya, whether it’s the debt ceiling, whether it’s the discussion around the Kasich bill in Ohio, where Gov. Romney has been missing in action in terms of showing any kind of leadership.” - Jon Huntsman
“They (voters) want to know what’s the truth. They’re not interested in a chameleon.” - Michelle Bachmann
“The big problem many conservatives have with Mitt Romney is that he’s taken both sides of nearly every issue important to us.” - Club for Growth
“Here is a guy who is the ultimate flip-flopper running for president, and he’s attacking me for not being principled? That doesn’t wash.” - Rick Santorum
http://romneyflop.com/quotes/
Gee, with fellow Republicans like that who needs enemies! I personally would have added the now truly infamous Ann(Skank)Coulter's remarks that, "If we don't run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we will lose." I'm paraphrasing but I think that's the gist of what she said.
Good catch.
“If you don’t run Chris Christie, Romney will be the nominee and we’ll lose” - Ann Coulter
The Donald was really ticked off. He said that the election was probably rigged. Yeah right, Don and your hair is curly. Ooooh did President Obama "trump" your candidate there Donald?
Hey Mitt..... even Jimmy Carter became president!!!! Time to fix our problems TOGETHER, let's get going!
Obama took them through bankruptcy as well, he just took them through the government bankruptcy, you know the one where the union contracts and pensions are not affected. The poor shareholders that had invested in the companies as a form of retirement were left with nothing to show but that seemed okay with our society. The government is going to lose money on this bailout but we have money to give away! Oh, that's right, the wealthy will pay for it. My father never made over 60M in all his years of working and could have really used the value of his GM stock, that is now worthless. Glad it worked out for the unions.
The poor shareholders left with nothing but billions of dollars. Right go suck an egg you clown.
You are totally wrong, maybe you should have given that advise to willard. Oh he did take you advise and lost BIG! Fool
Are you kidding me? Billions of dollars...what planet are you from? My dad works hard for his money and invested in GM many, many years ago and was left with nothing!!!! Several people I know had a lot of GM stock in their retirement plans and were left with nothing so you can keep you silly comments to yourself. If the auto industry did not have unions, would the government have stepped in? There are other big companies that have been allowed to go bankrupt without government taking over.
Romney did say let them go bankrupt and come out a leaner organization with government loans, but the unions would not have had their preferred status. The same unions that caused part of the fiscal problems in the industry. I am not a fool or a clown and you are showing your class of person by calling me one just because I express my opinion. How mature of you!
Poor Romney!
Lost all energy & money during primary in internal fighting. One moretime GOP unable to find good candidate.
Did you all see the complete look of shock on Queen Ann's face? Priceless.
AlaskaGirl, I did notice too, on stage and then ran off. Indeed Priceless!
Dang, I missed that...
Was that shock? I thought that with all the excitement they just forgot to wind her up.
No, pretty sure it was a look of pure shock when she finally realized that she would not be ordering the new curtains or picking out colors for the WH residence, or installing a new paddock for the "therapy" horses.
Alaska Girl - or putting a car elevator in the White House. Don't forget the car elevator!!!!
Oh, geez, how could I forget the car elevator! That reminds me, I have got to get estimates for my car elevator!
I looked at the eyes of both MItt and Ann. They both had obviously been crying. The redness, puffyiness and remnants of tears were there. Mitt tried to make the best of things in his gracious speech. Ann barely could muster a wave to their adoring crowd. Shock, disbelief and showers of tears is what I saw.
It appears that the election last night confirmed that our country has now moved closer to a one party system.
The Democrats did an excellent job getting people out to vote. Over the past two presidential elections they have changed the demographic of the electorate, showing the minorities in the country how to make their voices heard by becoming united in the vote. This is not a bad thing.
The Republicans need to become more moderate on the social issues and develop a solution to immigration reform that the moderates and immigrants can support. If they don't, they will never win another national election.
Congrats to President Obama on his re-election, hopefully we will start to see some compromise on both sides so this country can start to recover from absolute mess we are in today.
Va Ind - I don't want a one party system - that just breeds problems. What I want is a 2 party system where both parties stand for something and for all the people. The GOP has been so damaged by their inability to change with the times that it may not endure. Hopefully a REAL party will take it's place - one where diversity of people and ideas is encouraged. It can only make the country stronger.
I hope that the republicon party fades to a regional party.
The Democrats have already moved so far to the right that they are now what the republicans used to be.
I will be voting Green Party from now on.
If it is true Romney lost the election because of his comments on the auto bailout then he can take heart that he lost over something he said rather than something that was said about him. Doesn't get any fairer than that.
I guess the 13% congressional approval is bogus..Seems like most of them were re elected..I guess Churchill was right about the argument against democracy...
Two words, Gerry Mandering.
That is the next job of WE THE PEOPLE, to get these custom made voting districts thrown out and let the district lines be drawn based upon population and geographic area and not demographics and past voting practices.
It's a "congress is doing a terrible job, but my guy is doing great" mentality
California's new redistricting plan seems to be working. Other states should take a look at it.
The best is we do not have to put up with Queen Ann
Demographics - Demographics - Demographics
It turns out that Scott Rasmussen got the demographics wrong.
As a side note, sales of Nate Silver's book "The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail—but Some Don't" are up 800% in the last 24 hours on amazon.com
Romney never overcame the fact that he was a lying shill for the ultra rich backers who thought they could simply buy the election. Fortunately there are still a few intelligent center right conservatives and independents who see through the bull and vote on integrity and substance.
Interesting "trash" leftover from campaign 2012, and last night's culminating election.
a) So now, when a large company mismanages it's finances, the federal government should step in and pay their bills for them, with your taxpayer dollars and mine? (Can't wait until this happens to a publicly traded, non-union entity. Let's see how much "help" they get from Obama, or anybody else for that matter.)
b) It doesn't help a campaign, when your positions on major issues are intentionally misrepresented by your both opponent, and by the main stream media.
c) Candidates AND the media placated to minorities, woman, and illegals during this election cycle. (i.e., It's okay to state, outright, that you want to take the Hispanic vote. But, it's politically incorrect to say that you want to win over white males?.....hmmmmmm. THAT is a very dangerous precedent to put out there!)
d) Performance, I mean actual performance as a President, means nothing when it comes to re election (at least for this President, it means nothing). Obama's fiscal record is an abomination. Can't wait to see what happens when a different incumbant President with a similar performance record runs for re election. Can't wait to hear what gets said.
e) Hurricane Sandy put a dent in Romney's momentum. He was leading in 5 of the 10 major pre-election polls to include Rasmussen and Gallup a little more than a week before the election, three were a dead heat, and Obama was leading in two of the least sampled polls. The visit to NJ, and the photo-op with Chris Christie changed all that.
f) Obama's promise to tax the wealthy at an increased rate, resonates with uneducated, lower-middle, and lower-income voters. We'll see how much prosperity it brings.
g) The 50-48, or 50-49 "split" in the popular vote is very telling. Not only is it NOT a mandate for Obama's agenda. But, it also shows how deeply divided we are as a nation after four years under the governance of someone who ran his first campaign on the promise of "hope & change."
So, it's all over. Congratulations to Obama and his disciples. Now, let's see howmuch, hope, change and prosperity we get these next four years.
Because, if he doesn't turn the economy around between now and January of 2017, all this talk of "white males" being "irrelevant" will change quite suddenly.
Lastly, remember in 2004 when it was evangelicals, and seniors who turned the election in favor of Bush?.....What happened to them, these 8 years later? Just a little food for thought.
Congratulations to Team Obama. let's see what you do these next four years.
Respectfully ZMan2012, I disagree.
A) it's happened - TARP
B) it doesn't help when your positions change from day to day and you double/triple down on lies (Jeep and Chrysler comments)
C) didn't Gov. Romney attend a NAACP meeting and speak with hispanics (Univision)? So his postions were presented also.
D) actual performance as President is checked and balanced by other branches of government. That's how our Constitution set up the system. This allowed for direct, pre-planned, and implemented obstrcutionism to occur.
E) blaming Mother Nature is failing to acknowledge the other campaign errors made by Gov. Romney, Rep. Ryan and their team.
F) I encourage you to read the facts about continually decreasing the top tax rates as has been done since President Clinton's adminsitration when we started a surplus. Trickle down economics and tax cuts for the rich do NOT stimulate the economy. They only increase income disparity. G) How do you forget about the divisiness encouraged by the Republicans and the TEA Party? Blaming ALL the division on Presdient Obama is seriously flawed.
Indeed, let's see what happens these next four years. Let's collectively work for the good of OUR country instead of acting to impede it. Let's demand of OUR elected officials that they work together to represent ALL of us.
And as the next four years pass we will continue to move forward. I hope that this will be recognized instead of reviled.
@Matthew,
Nice try but ZMan doesn't seem the type to want to work for the good of OUR Country. It doesn't seem to be his makeup. It's a shame but I've become desensitized to people like him.
We might as well get used to the fact that the doom and gloom folks will always be with us. It's a shame but we'll just have to move forward, with or without them
What about AIG, Lehman Brothers, and Bank of America? Did they not get bailed out because they are "too big to fail"?
It seems that there was an act of god that changed the direction of the campaign. Maybe there was something to that. Aside from that It was good for obama to be seen side by side working with christie. He proved right there he has leadership skills.Something that Romney said he was lacking. I am so glad that Obama put them in their place.
