Ryan casts ballot before hitting the road

JANESVILLE, Wisc. -- With just a few hours to go before polls close and the 2012 election draws to a close, Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan is optimistic Mitt Romney will become the next president of the United States.

Eric Thayer / Reuters

Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan and his wife Janna vote during the U.S. Presidential election accompanied by their children Charlie, Sam and Liza in Janesville, Wisconsin November 6, 2012.

Asked if the GOP ticket would win Tuesday, Ryan told reporters after casting his ballot: "I think we are, I feel good about it."
The Wisconsin congressman and his wife, Janna, voted at the Hedberg Library in their hometown of Janesville. Ryan’s three children -- Liza, Charlie, and Sam -- joined their parents as well.

Who did Ryan vote for?

"It'll be suspenseful," the congressman, wearing a suit, joked with reporters as he walked into the library.

"It felt good waking up in my hometown,” Ryan said after submitting his ballot. “It felt good coming to this neighborhood I grew up in. I went to junior high about 60 yards that way. So it’s great to be here in my hometown. It’s great to vote and we’re really excited."

Ryan will head to the battleground states of Ohio and Virginia before heading to the election night party in Boston this evening.

RomneyRyan do Ayn Rand's bidding, from the grave:

"Mitt Romney and his running mate, Paul Ryan, share a similarly dim view of a very large portion of Americans, according to previously unreported remarks by Ryan. Both believe that many of their fellow citizens are dependent on government and have no motivation to improve their lives -- but they disagree over the precise number."

Romney's estimate, famously, is 47 percent. For Ryan, it's 30 percent.

"Seventy percent of Americans want the American dream. They believe in the American idea. Only 30 percent want their welfare state," Ryan said. "Before too long, we could become a society where the net majority of Americans are takers, not makers.""

Backhouse, the irony is, Paul Ryan has been mooching off the government his entire life, much like most rightwingers, like Karl Rove and Michelle Bachman. They wouldn't know how to support themselves, if they had to earn a living from an honest day's work.

Amy, yes. Ryan Inc (1884) spent hundreds of $millions of federal dollars, building roads and highways.

(The Ryans DID NOT BUILD THAT.)

Romney spent hundreds of $millions in federal dollars for the Olympics. (Romney Did Not Build That.)

And when BainRomney left communities and thousands devastated without jobs, healthcare, homes, children's college funds, and retirement.....folks turned to...government assistance.

All the while BainRomney was lining his own pockets at the expense of ordinary workers' families --- and we now find he paid ZERO taxes from 1996 to 2009 (Bloomberg). This guy couldn't tell the truth if he was nailed to it.

The last guy that cried on the campaign trail, Edmond Muskie, went down in flames. And certainly Mr. Obama was not crying because this was his last campaign stop (albeit, he has spent a considerable amount of his presidency campaigning). He was crying because he obviously fears he is about to lose. And when he does lose he will have no one but himself to blame. His campaign was based purely on attacks and he offered no vision or plan for the future. He tried to, again, run on a slogan, Forward, but all the voters could see was the country going forward into the financial abyss if Mr. Obama were to be reelected. If you were to ask today, election day, Mr. Obama's most ardent supporters what are the specifics of his plan to reduce the national debt, stop deficit spending and create private sector jobs, deal with trade, etc... all you would get are blank stares or maybe some canned talking points devoid of any substance whatsoever. No wonder he wants to play basketball, he has nothing to talk about and offers no leadership. And when you waste a golden opportunity to provide leadership to the greatest country on earth that's something to cry about.

For the past two months an intense voter outreach campaign has swept across Escondido.

“We’ve been going around to the houses and leaving wave after wave of materials to remind people to vote,” said Ana Castro, a campaign volunteer.

The “Nuestro Voto, Nuestro Futuro” or “Our Vote, Our Future” campaign has been targeting 40 densely Latino populated precincts. The bilingual non-partisan campaign has reached out to nearly 30,000 Latinos, with fliers to a phone bank, urging them to register to vote.

“Out of that, [we have received] 6,000 pledges to vote,” said Norma Chavez-Peterson the campaign’s coordinator.

According to the San Diego County Registrar, of voters the push has been a success. Since February, more than 40,000 new Latino voters have registered countywide.

Averaging 5,000 registrants a month, while setting a new record for Latino registered voters in San Diego County

"We’re participating in the process," explained Chavez-Peterson. "We’re saying we want to make this country stronger and we’re proud of it."

Castro added, “It’s important because in Escondido there has been low Latino voter turnout.”

But after a series of workshops and a registration drive, campaign volunteers not only want to make sure voters are well informed, but that their rights are also protected at the polls.

“Some people don’t even know that they have the right to ask for the ballot in their language that they feel the most comfortable with. So that’s just basic know your rights,” said Chavez-Peterson.

Whether republican or democrat, the message is simple. “Exercise your right to vote this is what makes the democracy strong,”Said Chavez-Peterson.“If you don’t vote, don’t complain.”

The campaign is also partnering with the ACLU to make sure voters know their rights. Tuesday the ACLU will have volunteers at polls across the county to answer any questions voters may have. You can call the campaign office at: 760-624-VOTO(8686)

The ACLU has also set up a voter hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) and in Spanish 888-VE-Y-VOTA (888-839-8682).

I remember how it was when he took the helm in the White House:

  • the economy was near a second republican Great Depression
  • banks were failing
  • Lehman brothers was extinct
  • businesses were going belly up
  • 750,000 jobs were being lost monthly
  • fat cats were laughing their wealthy bailed out a$$e$ off (still are)
  • the auto industry was teetering on the brink
  • Osama bin Laden was picking out a condo in Florida
  • Mohamar Quaddafi was lovin' life n' livin' large
  • Hosni Mubarak was playing scrabble
  • Haliburton and Black Water had looted our treasury
  • American children were starving in our streets
  • We'd lost 3 jet airliners
  • World Trade Centers,.......gone
  • Pentagon had a hole in it
  • U.S. military overtaxed
  • 4,500 American kids dead in Iraq,......for nothing
  • 1,000 American kids dead in Afghanistan........for nothing
  • 3,300 Americans dead in New York
  • 1,100 Americans dead in New Orleans
  • Deficits out to infinity

Want a repeat OF THAT??!!

Then join me in voting a straight Democratic ticket and throw out the republican pestilence that has been a parasite on our people for far too long. Make the repubs get a real job and put them to work off the government dole for once in their miserable lives.

TNSEVOL,

my ONE promise kept by Barack Obama was Obamacare

Obamacare was nothing but an added tax for us to pay.

We already had medicaid to provide for people with low or no income and no healthcare facility is permitted to turn anyone away that needs medical care.

We already were paying for those people and now on top of paying for Obamacare we're going to be paying for the thousands of govt workers needed to administrate Obamacare on top of the thousands of additional IRS agents that will be hired to enforce the healthcare law

We will all have to pay more taxes to pay their salaries and pay for their pensions.

And when was all this accomplished?...The first 2 years of Obamas presidency.

Thats when he had control of the house and the senate and could have gotten this country back on it's feet.

But instead he wanted to feed his ego and cement his place in history with this national healthcare TAX!

Ticked -

That is a sad misrepresentation of Obamacare.

Those with Medical Insurance are already paying for those without insurance via higher premiums.

All independent research predicts rates will go down under Obamacare.

No more denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, kids can stay on their parent's plans longer, no lifetime 'cap' on coverage - all common sense reforms that will improve lives.

No new workers, no new IRS agents, no 'death panles' - that is all Republican distortion.

No new taxes unless you refuse to purchase coverage - I thought Republicans were all about personal responsibility and paying your own way?

You will really be 'Ticked" tomorrow when Pres. Obama wins Ohio!

Obamacare helps individuals like my family by standing up to the insurance agencies and telling them that they can't turn use down because of pre-existing conditions. My wife was recently downsized from her job and last week diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. So this means I can transfer her to my insurance and she can still be covered for all the medical tests and procedures that are sure to follow. Thank God that this was passed.

Romneys position on the issue of marriage...thats my one.

Oh, so sorry but that is NOT a correct answer. During his 1994 Senate campaign against Ted Kennedy, Romney said he 'would be to the left of Kennedy' on Gay Rights.

1994 Senate Campaign

While seeking the US Senate seat in 1994, Mitt Romney wrote a letter to a gay rights group known as the Log Cabin Club claiming that he supported full equality for America's gay and lesbian citizens. He claimed that even though has opponent - Senator Ted Kennedy - was an ardent supporter of gay rights, he would be more effective in moving the issue into the main stream of American concern

Gubernatorial Actions

While seeking the governor's seat for Massachusetts in 2002, Mitt Romney's campaign circulated a flier in a gay pride weekend asserting his support for equal rights for all Americans regardless of sexual orientation.

During his tenure in office, the Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) of Massachusetts issued a ruling claiming that denial of marriage to same sex couples was not legal. Governor Romney reacted to this ruling by asserting that he supported the establishment of civil unions to satisfy the court decision that this legal alternative be available.

http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/Governor/Massachusetts/Mitt_Romney/Views/Gay_Marriage/

Romney went from supporting 'Full Equality" to only supporting Civil Unions in less than a year.

The mandate was called a tax by judge Roberts because all the right wing judges drew straws at who will allow Obamacare to go through. They knew that they would be in deep S#!t if the didn't pass it.So they called it a tax for convenience.Nixon, McCain, Romney and Gingrich, all FOR mandate before they were against it! Hell, Romney drafted the ORIGINAL Obamacare! It could have been passed as is but the conservative SCOTUS screwed it up to please their masters. That mandate only affects a tiny fraction of people who cannot pay. (around 2%)NOT YOU OR MEObama made good on his promise and delivered it.He could have done better but the GOP screwed with him and made him go around in circles. Finally he caught on and stopped dealing with the aholes. The first time I saw Paul Ryan speak, I thought he was a true conservative, a person with a viewoint I could respect, but the more he talked the more I realzed "this guy is a narrow minded zealot."

Ryan reminds me of the judges during the Salem witch trials, convinced God gave them the moral authority to burn women at the stake. Who gave him the right to interfere with the decisions women make over the most intimate details of their healthcare?

This guy has been a government employee for his entire career, but he professes to admire those who risk their fortunes in the free market. Ryan doesn't know the first thing about making it in business, but he claims deregulation is paramount to growing the economy.

Ryan wants to shred the safety net, although he himself used his father's social security death benefits to pay for college. That is just one aspect of this guy's hypocrisy. That, and the fact he is rich thanks to his wife's inheritance.

Ryan would be the flip side of the coin of our Republican Senate candidate Tom Smith, who's basing most of his campaign being oh so proud of not being a Washington insider. Apparently forgetting the fact that he's spending millions of dollars to become.....a Washington insider.

Oh, and by the way, as someone who's been to Salem and even went to the really cheesy Salem Witch Museum (I still have the big purple witch ball I bought at the tacky souveneir store), I can tell you that no witches were ever burned at the stake in Salem. I think 19 were hung, and one guy was pressed to death (you don't want to know the details). Nice town today, though - we should meet there for lunch some day and do the House of the Seven Gables tour. I'm buying!

Amy, it's enough to make one wonder: "How did we define or illustrate the concept of 'hypocrisy' before today's GOP attempted to make it into a civic virtue?"

The Republicans lie, constantly, consistently, and repeatedly. They lie in situations where the truth would advance their interests much more effectively. They lie to their opposition, to their supporters and to the huddled masses who really just want to be left alone.

Mitt Romney lies so much and so frequently, I'm sure there must be someone on his staff whose job it is to keep up with all of Mitt's lies on a minute-to-minute basis, to keep "The Boss" from tripping over the lie he told two minutes ago. (That staffer will undoubtedly be murdered after RoMoney's concession speech, and his body thrown into the concrete pour for a Wal-Mart in a formerly thriving and peaceful little town in rural Oregon.)

It's a good thing God's wisdom is infinite, or even He might have trouble keeping up with Romney's incessant stream of lies!

Fortunately for the future of the Republic, there are still enough voters who remember the Bush years, and won't vote to give him a third term.

If his voting record during the Bush years matched his rhetoric during the Obama years it would have shown some principles. If he didn't request Stimulus money even while denouncing it as bad policy and socialistic he would have held true to his beliefs.

A defining moment was in the VP debate (after the 1st debate turning point in the Dem comeback)when Joe Biden pointed at him and said - "This guy asked for stimulus money to help create jobs. Now he says the Stimulus was not beneficial. I got the letters." What a hypocrite.

Now, since President Obama's election, all of a sudden, folks have gotten mad, and want to take America Back...BACK TO WHAT -- BACK TO WHERE is my question?

After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate Energy policy and push us to invade Iraq.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the previous 42 Presidents combined.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that shipped 6 million American jobs out of the country.

You didn't get mad when they didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when Bush rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined budget and current account deficits.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed Veteran's Hospital.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend, the 1%, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.

You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.

You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they had no health insurance.

You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in investments, retirement, and home values.

You finally got mad when a black man was elected President and decided that people in America
deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick.

Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick... Oh, Hell No!

I saw something really interesting on one of the news shows last night. A statement was made about marketing, and how every single part of the Romney/Ryan campaign has been a marketing campaign, not an election campaign.

It really made me think. In marketing you show the best qualities about your product, without showing too many details because you want the buyer to focus on how pretty it looks on a fancy plate on your kitchen table. They don't tell you where it's specifically made, or even who makes it, but they will be the first to let you in on when they have a new package, design, and/or size. And they can even skirt around the truth, not necessarily lying straight-up (although that has been known to happen), but more like just leaving things out…not telling the entire truth.

Think about it. Like the commentator said last night, Mr. Romney's campaign is the first major presidential campaign that is wholly marketing. His 'best' qualities were shown, and often changed and/or adjusted to appeal to different types of markets. He sure was trotted out as looking presidential with his hair and his wife. But nothing was ever presented to prove exactly how he'd be as president, no specific plans on how he'd make things better for you were ever presented.

They don't tell you where he's 'made' as in where, specifically, is his home state? Michigan? Utah? Massachusetts? It's done purposefully so that if you are a supporter of his and you are from one of the states or areas around these states, you can claim him as one of your own.

But they do get specific whenever he has a new design - which equals every single time he changed his package to include support for certain programs or positions that suit his needs at any given time (like FEMA…is he for it or against it? Nobody knows..). And, like a good marketing campaign, he leaves a lot of things out, so that the consumer can just concentrate on all the physical appeal: like leaving out his tax records, for example. Who does that?

Please think about this if you are leaning towards voting for him today. It's not just enough that you are voting against Mr. Obama. You have to have reasons to vote FOR Mr. Romney and I think their marketing plan is better suited for a can of soup than for a presidential candidate.

I wonder how many in our Military are Voting for this Administration after they gave them a Death Sentence ROE orders?

Bush ended that program in 2007, It was called Operation gun Walker, Obama and Holder started Fast & Furious in 2009, Obama had allotted Twenty five Million to Start F&F, Obama and Eric Holder are Liars, Congress caught Holder Lying During the Hearings, He is now being held in Contempt of Congress for not Cooperating with the Investigation and Refusing to give up Evidence.

Just because you did not see this on the Lamestream Propaganda Machine does not make it a Lie? You sir are the one who is not Informed or Lying?

              #11.8 - Tue Nov 6, 2012 2:22 PM EST

There was never an operation called gun walker. The was an operation called Project Gunrunner that was started in 2006 and ran thur 2011. Which had several gun walking programs run with in it like Operation Wide Receiver and Operation Fast and Furious. Both of these programs were under the umbrella of Project Gunrunner.

No one is being held in contempt, no one lied. The justice department gave Issa everything he requested plus some he did not. They did however withhold papers that were not requested because they contained the names of undercover AFT agents who are still on OP's.

Issa was on a which hunt trying to make the President look bad, and the ignorant ate it up.

You got any more lies you need Debunked?

I voted this morning and I feel fabulous! I voted a straight Democrat ballot! I am usually open minded and I vote on the merits of a candidate, but this time I want all Republicans out so no matter who they were I voted for the Democrat! My hand actually shook as I prepared to color in the circle for President Obama. I was so excited to cast my vote for him and Joe Biden. I made sure that not one speck of ink went outside the circle. I wanted no question as to who I was voting for! Some of you Republicans will tell me that my vote has no meaning whatsoever. I say to those of you who would say that, you and those like you will never suppress my vote. It is my vote alone and I am the decider. I will not be discounted because it makes you feel better to be a bully. I am an American and I voted for president Barack Hussein Obama to be reelected as the 44th president of these United States of America!

The people you mention also realize we can't cut our way out of this mess. It's going to take a combination of spending cuts AND increased taxes - probably from those who can afford it rather than those who have no spare change in their pockets. They also haven't signed a petition from Grover Norquist to not raise taxes under any circumstances - even if the integrity of the US is at stake. These people are patriots who love their country and are willing to help out.

I don't waste my time trying to figure out who is who and who is using multiple names, who has been kicked off the island and come back under another name. They are all the same to me if they spew their venomous hatred because others do not think the way they do(thank God for big favors!). On a serious note, I am really nervous about this election. The president has faced so much adversity over the last four years, yet he has achieved a historic amount by any modern day president's record. I just hate for it all to be taken away when he and so many of us fought really hard to make sure that the LGBT Community has the right to be with the one they love and serve openly and proud in the military. I think that has been the biggest hypocrisy in this nation. Anyway, I could go on and on as I am sure you could. I've got fingers and toes crossed for an Obama victory!

I've paid close attention figuring it was my duty as a citizen even when i wanted to look away. The amount of racism that still exists was, and continues to be a shock to me. from the flippin Congress on down. I have NO respect for people that put color before common sense or project their belief systems onto the lives of others. America is supposed to be the land of freedom and clearly we have a huge amount of ignorant stragglers that do not understand what that means at all.

Take heart Alaskagirl... I predict an ultimate Obama win and, if the obstruction continues afterward, a clearing of the house of representatives to follow. The faux religiostic obstructionists would gladly have America turn to dust even as the rest of the free world cheers us on to lead the way.

We are young as a nation and this grand experiment was not meant to suffer the slings and arrows of special interests. Least of all religion among our elected ranks. Those that have hampered the American dream will have their come-uppance.

Little "Richie Rich" Ryan needs to work on his math skills. Then he needs to work on the specifics of his Economic Plan, his Tax Plan, his Trade Policy, and his views on Foreign Policy. His current Budget excludes the Middle Class, the Working Poor, the elderely, and the disabled. His Tax Policy heavily favors the very rich, and has been clearly stated to be immoral. WOW! Ask little "RIchie Rich" Ryan was on the evening of Janruary 20, 2009? Well he was at the Caucus Restaurant in Washington D.C. He was leading a Tea Begger "Conspiracy" against the People Of The United States. On this evening of Tea Begger 'revenge.' They took a "Blood Oath" too destroy the US Economy at all costs. Then the Tea Beggers wanted to make this President out to be lazy, a terrorist, dumb, incompetent, not a Christian, and that he does not know how to be an American. Does this sound familiar?? Have heard this crap before America? "Nutty Newt" attended the Tea Begger "Caucus Conspiracy" on Janruary 20, 2009. Now "Nutty Newt" has used such words to describe the President as the "Food Stamp President." This extremely "Mentally Ill Tea Begger" started making this spewing up on Janruary 20, 2009. Hey! Hey! I can't quite figure out Rassmussen's polling in Ohio. They show Obama and Romney tied at 49% each, but the details tell a different story.

                        Per Rassmussen:

                        1. Obama leads 60% to 37% among the 40% of likely voters in Ohio who have already voted.

                        2. Obama leads 50% - 49% amongst the 93% of likely voters who have made up their minds about who they will vote for.

                        3. Obama won Ohio in 2008 by a margin of 51% to 47%, and currently has a 51% approval rating versus 48% who disapprove.

                        4. Obama has a 50%/49% favorable/unfavorable rating.

All of those factors would lead you to believe Pres. Obama has at least a two-point lead in Ohio, 51% to 49%. At a minimum based on Job Approval, Favorability, and Decided voters numbers he should be at 50%.

I think Scott Rasmussen will have a lot to answer for tomorrow when his 2012 polls are as inaccurate and Republican-leaning as they were in 2010.

Interesting how Ryan was brought onto the campaign because he was the young, handsome, numbers guru who help the ticket "focus on the issues." Then he went on national television and gave a convention speech that was nothing but a stream of very checkable lies and misstatments. After that, he pretty much became "a Catholic deerhunter" and disappeared from view. MItt wanted Chris Christie, but jilted him at the last minute for Ryan. Ow, boy. A Christie scorned. And now Chris has read the data and knows that Mitt can pretty much strap the dog to the car and head for home. So it's, "I'm not campaigning for you. I'm staying here and acting the governor 'cuz 2016 ain't that far away." Well, you know what they say. It's not over until the fat guy sings.
