*** Decision Day: After nearly $1 billion spent on TV ads, a wild GOP primary season, 20 primary debates and four general-election ones, endless campaign stops to the battleground states, and a hurricane on the final full week, the 2012 presidential election comes to an end today. Or at least we think it will. And tonight will help answer so many of the questions we’ve posed over the past two years: Can an incumbent president win when the unemployment rate is just below 8%? Or is an incumbent who doesn’t face a primary challenge tough to beat? Did Mitt Romney’s opposition to the auto bailout prove fatal to his chances, especially in Ohio? Or was his overall economic messaging successful? Did the Super PACs -- including the $53 million Sheldon Adelson donated -- move the needle? What segment of the electorate proved more decisive, white voters or Latinos? Was there a significant gender gap? Were the polls right? And given that both candidates have thrived when their backs have been against the wall, which man will ultimately prevail? We’ll find out tonight.

*** How to watch tonight: With several battleground states having poll-closing times at 8:00 pm ET or earlier (Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania), we’re going to know a lot about how the race is breaking fairly early in the evening. How long does it take to call North Carolina (a state Romney probably wants to put away early) and Pennsylvania (ditto Obama)? Will Florida and Virginia take hours to call? (Remember, no state better matched the 2008 popular than Virginia did four years ago.) Here are all the final poll closing times in ET (NBC News will not call a race until all polls have closed in that state):

NBC's Mark Murray reporting from New York highlights the questions that today's election has the possibility to answer.
*** What’s at stake: This year’s elections might not have the same huge rallies of four years ago. Or the unbridled energy and enthusiasm. Or even Sarah Palin. But it could very well be a more consequential election -- with so much at stake. The winner of the presidential contest between Obama and Romney could determine the fate of the Bush tax cuts. The outcome also could decide the future of entitlement programs like Medicare and Medicaid. And the race could impact the implementation of the 2010 federal health-care law. What’s more, the winner could potentially fill as many as two or three Supreme Court vacancies -- with Ruth Bader Ginsburg at age 79, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia at 76, and Stephen Breyer at 74 -- which could change the court’s political composition for decades. Furthermore, whichever party wins the presidential contest will likely hold the upper hand in the “fiscal cliff” negotiations, which will begin immediately after the ballots are counted. And speaking of that last point, it raised our eyebrows that House Speaker John Boehner’s office last night released this quote from Boehner in a Politico piece: “We’re not raising taxes on small-business people,” he said. “Ernst and Young has made this clear: It’s going to cost our economy 700,000 jobs. Why in the world would we want to do that?” Would Boehner’s office have released this hours before the end of the campaign if it was confident Romney was going to win? Remember what state Boehner is from: Ohio.

*** State of play: The presidential contest is a race to 270 electoral votes. Throughout the race, Obama has enjoyed more paths to 270 than Romney. A note: If there is a 269-269 tie, which has never happened before, the new House of Representatives would determine the presidential election’s outcome, while the U.S. Senate would elect the vice president. In the battle for control of the U.S. Senate, Democrats (and the independents who caucus with them) hold a 53-47 majority in the chamber. To win back control, Republicans must net four seats if Obama wins re-election or three seats if he doesn’t. The reason: The vice president gets to break a 50-50 tie. And in the House, Republicans hold a 240-190 majority in the chamber (with five vacancies). This means Democrats must pick up a net of 25 seats to win back control -- a doable but unlikely feat due in part to redistricting.

Aside from a couple of brief hiatuses over the past 60 years, the predominant trend in the Executive Branch has been 8 years of a Republican administration followed by 8 years of a Democrat administration. With the imminent re-election of President Obama, that trend will continue.
Republicans are on the wrong side of history. This is clear to the wealthy old white men who hold sway in this country--and who will do anything to retain it. It is not clear to the bitter, middle-age white men (and others who fear or distrust societal evolution) who perpetuate the old men's control.
Barring a sudden, rude awakening of the Republican electorate, I predict that in 2016 we will see the beginning of another 8 years of a Democrat in the White House.
I further predict that either the Democrat president or the vice-president will be a woman.

Wednesday Morning Quarterback:
Tonight Mitt Romney will give his concession speech and declare President Obama the winner of the 2012 election. Immediately thereafter pundits from the media and party surrogates will begin their analysis of why Romney lost. Most likely Chuck Todd will report on exit interview data, followed by reasonable comments from Mark Murray and the First Read staff.
It will be fascinating to read the opinions of Republican pundits. Some will say that Romney lost because he was too moderate, not a "true conservative" and he simply bought his way through the primaries using the money of large corporations and the individual 1%ers. Others will say that he was too conservative and way outside of the political mainstream. Actually neither side is correct on this issue.
Romney has a character flaw and holds no core beliefs, neither moderate nor conservative. He simply is a very wealthy guy who wanted to be POTUS and would say anything to anyone in order to get a vote.
Some pundits will argue that Romney picked the wrong running mate. Romney overlooked that Ryan had considerable baggage in terms of his voting record regarding women and the Ryan budget was much too draconian. In the latter days of the campaign team Romney put a muzzle on Ryan and he seemed a lot like Rob Portman. If Romney had picked Portman maybe he could have carried Ohio—who knows.
Pundits will point to the fact that Romney ran an entire campaign without giving any details. He wouldn't show us his taxes, but wanted us to trust him regarding what he would do to our taxes. It was a campaign based on vague assertions, mainly because he could not defend his plan. Then there were the lies: the Ohio jeep lie, the people on welfare don't have to work lie, and the I didn't say, "Let Detroit go bankrupt" lie. Just way too many lies.
The armchair quarterbacks will have a lot to talk about, but the bottom line is the American people want a President who cares about all Americans, not a rigid boss or CEO from Bain Capital whose primary interest is making money for the 1%.
The Case For Romney
At his core Romney is a conservative businessman, and his policy choices as well as his approach to governance will be informed by that perspective. In particular, Romney understands that the economy doesn't thrive and prosper because the federal government produces a "jobs program" or a "stimulus program." Instead Romney recognizes that the best jobs program ever invented by man is a flourishing private sector that demands more and more workers. And the overarching task of his presidency will be to pursue policies that will enable the private sector to grow and thereby get the great American jobs machine back into gear.
Central to those policies will be an imperative to remove the legacy of impediments to economic growth and job creation left to him by the current administration, with Obamacare being the most visible example. The burden this law places on private businesses – particularly smaller businesses – is a recipe for stagnation, not robust growth and job creation. That is because the requirements and taxes imposed by Obamacare have worked to hinder job creation as the private sector continues to struggle in figuring out exactly how this complex law will affect the cost side of their business models. Romney is committed to fixing this problem and on his first day in office will take steps to dismantle this ill conceived law. And by the time former President Obama lands in Chicago, implementation of his signature achievement will be dead in the water.
The energy sector is another area where the federal government has impeded economic growth, and achieving North American energy independence is a major component of Romney's strategy for economic renewal. Over the years, many presidents and candidates have preached to us about the need for energy independence. But what separates Romney from those folks is that we actually have a realistic chance of achieving that independence with today's revolution in developing our massive "tight oil" resources. Removing federal impediments to exploiting shale deposits in states like Colorado, Wyoming and Utah – and even states like Ohio and Pennsylvania that sit atop the huge Marcellus shale deposit – will be near the top of the agenda in a Romney administration. And this modern oil patch is a jobs machine just waiting to be unleashed – just ask the folks in North Dakota where the new oil boom has helped drive unemployment down to 3 percent.
Romney also understands that it makes absolutely no sense for America to periodically beg the Saudis to pump more oil even as we turn our backs on the enormous energy resources we have right here in our own country. So this is an economic issue and a national security issue all rolled into one, and under Romney's leadership he will move this country forward by taking advantage of the ocean of oil that sits right beneath our feet. Throw in approving the Keystone XL pipeline and we're talking about a real shot at achieving North American energy independence while creating a ton of new jobs in the process.
Another pro-growth idea advocated by Romney is his tax reform proposal. America's current tax code is a complicated hodgepodge of hopelessly confusing rules that is riddled with loopholes the federal government has handed out to favored constituencies over the years, primarily the wealthy. These loopholes reduce tax receipts as well as influence business and individual decisions throughout the economy by encouraging some forms of behavior while discouraging others. The result is a bewildering patchwork of incentives and disincentives which create economic inefficiencies and distorted investment decisions -- and Romney's plan to address this mess is long overdue. Furthermore, Romney's tax reform proposal is not a radical new idea. In fact, his proposal to substantially reduce marginal income tax rates while also reducing or eliminating loopholes is an idea that has been advanced by others in recent years, including the Bowles-Simpson commission.
There are challenges associated with Romney's plan, but not the "mathematically impossible" or "lack of detail" memes pushed by the left and their pals in the MSM. The real issue is that substantive tax reform will be a heavy political lift for any president (including Romney) because there is a constituency that benefits from every loophole in our tax code and every one of those constituencies will bring pressure to bear to preserve their favored status. Moreover, Congress writes tax legislation, not the president. As president, Romney would establish broad principles for the tax reform he will ask Congress to deliver, then it would be up to Congress to fill in the details in a way that is consistent with those principles. The resulting legislation would be the product of a process involving extensive negotiations between the two branches of government because there are many different paths that could be taken to reach an end result that would be acceptable to both Congress and President Romney.
But it would be foolhardy for candidate Romney to lay down specific markers at this point as his critics disingenuously suggest because that would undermine his negotiating position with Congress while also energizing opposing constituencies even before the process begins. Instead, Romney has quite properly focused on articulating a broad vision for tax reform based on key principles while keeping his options open and all possibilities on the table. That's the mark of an effective leader. So rather than being a shortcoming of his approach, Romney's discipline in resisting being dragged into the tax weeds has actually given us an impressive insight into some of the leadership skills he would bring to the Oval Office.
Which leads directly to my final point: Romney is a proven leader with senior level executive experience in both the private sector and government. That experience gives him valuable insights into how to manage large, complex organizations and make difficult decisions – to include balancing budgets. Furthermore, as a Republican governor in a deep blue state he had to work with an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature in order to get anything done. The leadership skills required to reach across the aisle and find common ground are in pathetically short supply these days, and Romney's demonstrated ability to bring both Republicans and Democrats together for common purpose suggests he has a reasonable chance to break the Washington gridlock where others have failed. Finding that common ground and bringing disparate points of view together for common purpose will be critical to solving our fiscal problems, and Mitt Romney gives us hope of seeing some light at the end of that tunnel.
So in a nutshell, the case for Romney is all about the economy and all about the leadership skills required to pursue the policies that will enable our economy to experience robust growth again. His vision for America is a country where everyone has an opportunity to improve their lives and achieve their dreams by participating in the bounty a thriving free enterprise economy offers – a vision of hope that stands in stark contrast to four more years of status quo that promise to be just as dismal as the last four years.
For anyone who wants to see America return to a path leading to a bright and prosperous future, Romney is the clear choice.
President Obama is a man of deep internal strength and principle. With frankness, he tells us how he views the issues before us.
Our President has moved this country forward in so many ways: by rescuing our economy from the brink of utter collapse, passing health reform and ending the war in Iraq. He fought for equal pay for equal work, ended $billions in Bank subsidies and directed needed dollars to helping students afford college. President Obama looks out for our seniors, and no-one has worked harder to take care of veterans when they come home.
President Obama seeks avenues of opportunity for all Americans, no matter who we are or who we love.
Though GOP congressionals & the corporate right have openly obstructed him every step of the way, President Obama continues to make critical and historic accomplishments on our behalf.
AND TODAY WE MARCH FORWARD WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AT OUR SIDE.

By western standards, I don't live in a big county - a bit less than eleven-hundred square miles, fewer than 8,000 citizens. In this west Kansas county we have one polling place. One. Most of the county roads aren't paved, so when it rains, it's a real adventure getting to the poll. There were lines waiting for the poll to open this morning. Voting is a serious business here.
Not everyone goes to town every day. We don't have public transportation. Not everyone wants to bet on our weather being pleasant on voting day. Hell, the weatherman wouldn't bet on his own forecast here. So we have early voting and our County Clerk does a hell of a job making sure every citizen has a chance to cast his or her ballot. She's pretty darned good at what she does.
She's a Republican and she's not happy about this voter suppression thing that's going on. I'm a veteran, one of those guys who couldn't vote when he was 18, and I really hate this voter suppression BS, too. She has my vote.
You read a lot of posts here from people who don't have a clue what it's like out here. "Yeah, if voting was important, they'd find a way to get to the poll." Yeah, well tell that to the farmer who is running his harvester from dawn to dark and after. Now you know why harvesters have headlights. Tell that to the guy who's running the silos as trucks come through dropping tons of grain, hour after hour - from dawn to dark. Some of these guys are already drilling winter wheat.
Do you like bread? How about beef? Do you like it enough that you just might try to understand why we have early voting? Do you like your right to vote? Do you like it enough that you might try to understand why one of those old farmers would like to be able to vote too? Do you like it enough to cut some slack for the mechanic who's working not just during daylight, but through the night? It's not just farmers, not just mechanics. There's a lot of people working in jobs where they can't get to the polls like people who make their living in an office.
We have campaigns that seem to last for decades, and we're going to argue about extending polling hours? Really? Damnedest thing! The people trying hardest to suppress the vote never served in the military. They're the people who tell you that government isn't the solution it's the problem, but damned if they don't continue to run for political office. For once, go look. Don't believe me. Check it out yourself.
Find out how important that vote really is, and then if and when someone challenges you on your right to vote, tell them to back off. Tell them to mind their own business. Tell them to go to hell.
Don't let anyone tamper with your voting rights. They have come at too high a price to let some punk take them away.
If Barry is re-elected, conservatives will likely still have several things to be happy about.:
A House of Representatives still firmly in Republican control. Hearing “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi” is like music to our ears. (BTW, did you see where she is planning on a retirement career in TV advertising, already taking a starring role in the GEICO commercial filmed inside a broom factory??)
A solid 41+ votes in the Senate that will ensure Barry cannot get any far LWNJ’s appointed to the Supreme Court. The icing on that cake is that Harry Reid cannot pass any nutty lefty liberal bills.
But, the most Hillaryous effect will be Barry and the lefty liberal Dems having to try to spin their way around issues from the first term that come back to bite them on the ass in the second term.
ClunkerCare (AKA the “Affordable Care Act”) is one perfect example. Take the federal insurance mandate premium subsidies and its effect on middle class families: The non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation website has a calculator that allows you to estimate what it will cost you to buy a ClunkerCare policy in 2014. For a middle class family of four, with a household income of $90,000, and a 40 year old policyholder, the cost of the premium they will have to pay out of pocket is $8,550 per year or over $700 per month. That’s just for the premiums. Co-pays and co-insurance and deductibles would be paid in addition to that amount up to an annual cap of $8,333.
How many middle class families forced to buy a ClunkerCare policy and coughing up another $700+ a month will be calling the White House to thank Barry for this “affordable” opportunity??

I will be canvassing in Wisconsin later today for Obama. I will not stop until 15 minutes before polling closes.
I can never forget Senate Minority Leader McConnell saying his #1 priority is to make Obama a one term President days after Obama took office. To me, this will always go down as a Republicans saying they would rather destroy the country than see a non-white male President have any success.
President Obama's leads in the battleground states have held up all year. Florida is now lean blue.
As far as the "small" crowds, we have been watching President Obama for 6 years. Size of crowds matter little. We know him. We have been following him for 4 years. He was someone new on the scene 4 years ago. He is the incumbent. Not the new face.
What matters is the extraordinary job OFA has done.
The president raised $1 Billion dollars from the American people. The GOTV effort appears to be strong from what we have read throughout the early voting process.
I was so struck by his appearance last night in Iowa. He looked so comfortable talking to the people of Iowa. It was almost like they were all intimate friends. He looked very relaxed, yet very emotional.
You got the sense that the crowd was saying to him - yes Barack Obama, we know you.
It was quite moving. It came off as a very intimate moment between the crowd and our president.
GO VOTE AMERICA!

No concession at all. This race is so close either candidate can win. My only point, which obviously you missed, is the genius of the founders in making sure a President is unable to govern like a King. Something Barry has shown a definite propensity for doing.

Good morning, everyone. Just dropping in to say hello and to wish everyone the best of luck today ... as long as we support the same candidates, of course.
I am so grateful that I live in what is still, and hopefully will always be, a rational corner of the country where voting is a peaceful, civil process and no one tries to game the system or intimidate anyone. No one at my poll this morning would have stood for any of that. Mostly we were all worried about a guy in a long black overcoat who dropped his gloves.
Just hearing about what is happening in other places makes me ashamed to think about what we have, in some cases, become, where the imagined ends justify any possible means, and where people seem to believe it is somehow American to disenfranchise other Americans. Shame on you if you believe that voter suppression and dirty election tricks are EVER justifiable, and even more if you don't speak up against it.
It has been a pleasure flying with all of you, whether we agree or not. The important thing is that we care, and care deeply, not just about the outcome of a single election, but about our country, and above all about each other.
Because, like it or not, this is not a Nationwide insurance commercial. Whoever wins this election, we will wake up tomorrow, and we will all still be in this together.

We have seen a mystery candidate, Mitt Romney, run against a fictional incumbent – a President Obama that Republicans created out of thin air.
This fictional Barack Obama, the Kenyan-Socialist-Muslim who wants to take away your guns and increase your taxes, exists only in Republicans imaginations. This fictional Barack Obama went on a non-existent “Apology Tour”, authored a government take-over of medical care, and ended the ‘work to welfare’ requirement. This fictional Barack Obama doesn’t have a record to run on.
It is obvious to anyone who is really paying attention that the real President Barack Obama did none of those things, and DOES have a record to run on. A brief list follows:
President Obama’s Accomplishments:
1. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
2. The Recovery Act /Stimulus supported millions of jobs and stopped a second Great Depression.
3. The Auto Industry Bailout (nearly a quarter of a million new jobs since June 2009).
4. Increased funding for Pell Grants.
5. Student Loan reform & American Opportunity Tax Credit ($10,000 for four years of college).
6. Race to the Top Initiative raised academic standards.
7. Added 5.2 million new private sector jobs over the last 31 months leading to the lowest unemployment rate since President Obama took office.
8. Supported marriage equality, directed the DOJ to stop defending DOMA, extended hospital visitation rights to same-sex partners, and repealed “Don't Ask, Don't Tell".

Meanwhile the Republican ‘mystery’ candidate, Mitt Romney, has ‘Etch-a-Sketch’d his way through the campaign, changing his positions like other politicians change their ties.
He is either a ‘Severe Conservative’ or a bi-partisan Moderate, depending on the day of the week.
Romney either cares for all Americans, or believes 47% of them are government-dependent victims who will never be responsible citizens and are not worthy of his concern.
Romney is either against the auto bailout, believes it is ‘exactly’ what he proposed, or thinks it ships jobs to China.
Romney is for or against nothing or anything, with exceptions in the case of gaining your vote.

Dixville Notch voted, as usual, at midnight. While that tiny New Hampshire town is certainly not the ultimate predictor of election outcomes- they've only supported the winner about half the time in past elections- it is interesting to note that the two candidates tied.

I am voting for Romney for a very good reason- he can get things done. He doesn't blame his predecessors- witness the Olympics, which were in utter chaos when he was called upon. He rolled up his sleeves, got the job done, and actually showed a profit.
He can handle a crisis- there are plenty to point to, including finding a lost 14 year old who made a poor decision. He has compassion- ask the family of the young son Romney actually wrote a Will for- something I could not possibly manage. Or the many who found that the college "loans" he offered were forgiven upon graduation.
So, I have a candidate I have belief in.
As for Obama- he has failed, but, more importantly, he has insulted me more times than I can count. He's told me my health insurance is not good enough- because, despite MY paying the premiums, it is "too good". Other people can't afford it- so I can't have it, either. He has inveigled to lead me to class warfare in other ways, as well.
Most infuriatingly, he has insulted my intelligence with his "war on women" rhetoric. So, women are not to bother our pretty little heads about economics or foreign policy- we're to be distracted by free birth control and abortion? Let the big, strong, smart men worry about real issues?

Of course, my vote for President Obama won't be counted. All our electors will go to Romney and once again I am disenfranchised by our out-dated election system. But there were several state questions and local candidates who needed my support and I may be able to make a difference there.

Congratulations President Romney!
Today the nation makes a choice as to who will be our next President, to me there is only one choice and that is President Obama for four more years. The past four years have been an incredible journey not only of milestones in a historic Presidency.
Some of which are: The ACA Bill, Lilly Ledbetter Act for equal pay for equal work, repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, Two Supreme Court Justices, saving the auto industry, keeping the country safe from attacks, support for same sex marriage.
We have learned along the way much about ourselves and our fellow citizens, some of which I will try to forget as time goes by. It is true to say, much from the right truly took my breath away, disappointed and sometimes angered me. I guess it is the willingness some have to go out of their way to lie and spread lies about a man and his family I find the most disappointing. America use to be the country that many considered the place where fairness was the right way to go, sadly it no longer is. One only has to look and read about the attempts at voter suppression in recent days not to mention what was tried in the previous months. Most disappointing of all, there is no outrage from anyone on the right. If it helps them win, so much the better that is the way to go, along with the lies, hypocrisy fueled mostly by hate. I'm hoping that the voters are smarter than that.
Along the way I have made some wonderful friends all over the country. Their work here has been outstanding, their dedication to the facts and to getting them out there so others will be informed has been amazing. Thank you for all you've done despite the nastiness, the vile emails and the ugly posts, they have kept the faith each in their own inimitable style. Peace and Blessings to each and everyone you know who you are......wonderful caring citizens and to me, great friends forever.

I took an exit poll on the way out with a sample size of 1 (me).
Based on the results 100% of Michigan will be voting for Romney.
So put Michigan in the Romney column.

Ah, you misunderstand me, Joe. I don't really care that you spend your days saying these things. I'd just like for you to be honest with yourself when you say them. It doesn't have anything to do with any deep-seated political belief you might have. After all, you and yours started saying these things the day after the guy was elected. So no, it doesn't have anything to do with how he's performed or what your beliefs are or how much debt we all owe as citizens or whatever new story your 'news' source is going to make up next week to hit him with after he's re-elected.
It has to do with the fact that you hate to lose.
That's pretty much the long and short of it. You see life as a Stallone or Schwarzenegger movie where winning and losing is pretty clearly defined and the only way your side can 'win' if you actually lose the election is to spend the next four years tearing down the 'winner' as much as possible.

Well, here it is. After almost two years of campaigning, millions of dollars in TV ads, hundreds of thousands of miles flown, 500 or so speaking engagements, dozens of debates, and hours and hours of arguing here on FIRST READ…..election day is finally here!
The two, most important things anyone can do today is VOTE, and VOTE FOR MITT ROMNEY!
We live in perilous times both economically, and internationally. We haven't had any leadership for the past four years, and we desperately need some!
Recent events show you the kind of lacksidazical approach Obama takes to everything. He refused extra security for our diplomats in Benghazi, and they were murdered as a result. Their bodies were dragged through the streets, and their families were put through a living hell. Obama said in an interview with Jon Stewart that their deaths were "not optimal." How offensive is that? The mother of one of the murdered diplomats was so offended that she swore to herself that she's going to get at the truth, and I applaud her.
For Obama to go around saying they were killed because of a video was a bald faced lie. A lie that he repeated to the UN Security Council. A lie that he perpetuated when he said at the second debate that he called it an act of terrorism. He never said that at all. The bottom line here is that those men would still be alive if Obama had responded to their requests.
Secondly, we have his response to hurricane Sandy. He goes to New Jersey kisses Chris Christie's ass, and then goes back on the campaign trail. Meanwhile there are close to half a million people in the tri-state area of NY, New Jersey, and Connecticut who do not have power, no heat, and no hot water. There are still people without food and clean clothing. The response to hurricane Sandy by this President's FEMA agency has been absolutely horrible. BUT THE MEDIA ISNT COVERING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....and he's out there campaigning, eating well, and staying warm & dry. Think about THAT as you walk into the voting booth today.
This man has done NOTHING to deserve a second term, the economy is in SHAMBLES, unemployment went UP last month, and there really isn't any relief in sight. He and his disciples tell you that the economy is getting better.
But they can't show you ANYTHING that would make you believe that.
They are basically peeing on your shoes, and telling you that it's raining outside.
Then, there are the apologies to the Arab/Islamic world when he first took office. That was in and of itself DISGUSTING, and it s another case in which they try to tell you something other than the truth. They try to tell you he made no apologies.
If that's the case, then what did he mean when he said that America had been "dismissive and derisive." What did he mean when he said that America had "dictated to other nations??" What did he mean when he said ""fear and anger" after 9/11, led us to act contrary to our traditions and our ideals"?
If those aren't apologies, then I don't know what is!
The bottom line is that Obama doesn't give a damn about YOU. He only cares about wealthy contributors, and he cares about punishing successful, wealthy people who don't support his agenda.
And finally, we have his pals from up in Chicago. People like, Antoine Rezko, who's serving time for influence peddling. Rezko is the guy brokered Obama's purchase of his Ken wood estate, and arranged for the financing, in exchange for political favors.
Then there's his best friend William Ayers, who belonged to a domestic terror group who set off explosive devises in federal building in Washington DC, blew up an entire apartment building in Manhattan, firebombed a NY State Supreme Court Justices' home, and KILLED two police officers and a security guard during an armed robbery.
Oh, and let's not forget Reverend Wright, in who's church Obama sat for twenty years listening to him tell his congregation that AIDS was invented by the US government to kill black people, that the U.S. deserved 911, and "we shouldn't say God Bless America, we should say God Damn America." Racism, bigotry, and anti American hatred all wrapped up into the same "homily," and brought to you by Obama's preacher.
Should a sitting US President have acquaintances like THIS? If you say it doesn't matter, you need your head examined.
How in the hell did this guy ever become President? Moreover, can we survive another four years with him in the White House?
The answer to the latter question is absolutely NOT.
We need leadership. We need ideas. We need someone who understands how American business works, and can get our economy kick-started again. We need someone who'll keep us strong domestically and internationally, and who won't apologize to any nation for who and what we are! We need someone who'll keep Americans safe at home and abroad, and who will stand up to international terror groups like the one that killed Ambassador Stevens and his assistants. We need MITT ROMNEY, and we need him NOW!
Please think about all the harm Obama has done to this country, and the further harm he can do over the next four years, before you walk into that voting booth. Think about your kids, and your grand kids, and the economic mess they will be left with, if Obama gets back in.
It's time for change, America. It's time for leadership, and prosperity. It's time for ROMNEY. God bless all of you, and God Bless The United States of America!

Maine is a cheap media market, apparently. $400,000 buys months and MONTHS of air time to run negative ads NIGHT and DAY, attacking Obama and an Independent, moderate candidate for Senate. If Mayor Bloomberg had'nt stepped in at the last minute, we would never have seen an ad defending Angus King against Karl Rove and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's attacks.
Folks, I am in the mood for revenge. It's not enough just to vote, sorry Mr. President, I want my revenge on those who donated millions and millions to smear, slander and lie about perfectly nice people. They didn't raise points on policy, they muddied the waters of political discourse. I'm serious, we need to hold those millionaires responsible for this debacle of a campaign.

Romney promises 12 million new jobs in next 4 years. According to Mark Zandi of Moody's, we will get 12 million jobs in next 4 years with current economic policies. Romney promises nothing here.
Romney says he will be bipartisan, that he learned how to work with Democrats in his term as governor of Massachusetts. In actuality, he vetoed over 800 bills and Democratic controlled legislature simply overrode his vetoes. Is this bipartisanship? Further, he refused to even talk to Democratic members of the legislature. He even privatized the public elevator near his office, so he wouldn't have to talk to anyone on his way to work as governor. Romney failed at bipartisanship in Massachusetts.
Romney says he is a job creator. As governor of Massachusetts, he failed miserably at this endeavor. According to nonpartisan Mass. Budget and Policy Center's 9-3-06 report:
Romney made a lot of money at Bain. Creating jobs was not a priority there. Leveraged buyouts were the name of his game. He flipped companies for profit. This election I saw an increase in people by about 50% waiting in line...not sure if the turnout is better or that people just beat me.

On the other hand, President Obama has shown himself to be a mature, intelligent, and moral leader whose main concern, as was the case for the aforementioned historical spiritual leaders, is with those who are not so able to fend for themselves and their innocent families. I am not particularly enamored with the President (aside from he and I being born in '61, and both of us being particularly good looking) but he is in no way as awful as his detractors make him out to be. I believe the country is recovering in spite of politicians and bad government. The most important thing now is not change, but continuity. The President has much room for improvement and I think he is capable of building upon his first four years - I am willing to give him that opportunity.

We have fought the so-called "War on Terror" for 11 years now. When our terrorist enemy chooses to lead others to kill people such as Bin Laden, I think most Americans think that is OK. The terrorist leader in Yemen deserved his fate.
The War Powers Act permitted military action in Libya for 40 days (or something like that) without Congressional authorization. In the first week, the US took direct military action before our NATO allies assumed this role. We took no direct military action after this week. We then took a supportive role providing intelligence and logistical support in the Libyan action. I doubt that this violates the War Powers Act in any way.

Got to the polls at 7:30 this morning. The line was about an hour long, which is quite a bit longer than 2008. The much longer line is due to a combination of much higher turnout and a looooooong ballot. Dang amendments!! My precinct is probably about 2 to 1 Republican.

Well, I went to vote this morning. I'd tried the weekend before last to vote early, but the line was so long I couldn't find the end of it. I would have been standing there for hours, even though I'm in Texas and not in Ohio or Florida. There was no line at all today for Election Day voting at my precinct's polling place. While the attempts by Republicans in OH and FLA to restrict early voting are despicable, I do wonder if the long lines there have more to do with the smaller number of polling places for early voting than for Election-Day voting. Every church, school, and library seems to be a polling place on Election Day, but that's not the case for early voting.
I hope all you lefty libs don't mind I voted for a Repub here in Houston for District Attorney because the Democrat was a complete idiot with numerous run-ins with the law who got in during the low-turnout primary. Now I feel guilty about not voting in the primary. People in both parties should vote more often in primary elections. Especially moderate Republicans. Their party would do better if they didn't let tea bag extremists vote out good public servants like Richard Lugar in Indiana in favor of Richard Mourdock in this election and Sharron (Second Amendment Remedies) Angle in 2010.
As for the presidential election, I'm hoping that the polls are right and Barack Obama will have another four years. If the polls are wrong, the country will survive, although it's an open question as to whether or not a Romney administration would be as catastrophic as the last Republican administration.

Just returned from voting. I brought my daughter because she likes to participate. Usually they have a table where the kids can vote. Not this time the church was way too crowded. We had to wait in line 45 minutes. Usually there is no wait. It's never been that busy. All of the people I talked to said they were there to vote Romney. I live in MN, a state that never goes red and yet it just might this year.

In some state constitutions might give you a right to vote, but that is in state elections and state issues. It does not apply to Federal elections.

My sister in NC is a Democrat and her husband is a Republican. She always jokes that her vote cancels his. Although he and I don't agree politically, we like one another and rib each other.
Last week about this time he wound up in the hospital with an as yet undiagnosed illness. He's still there, and is very uncomfortable. Over the weekend I wrote the following to my sister: "My advice would be for him to lay low and take it easy. Let others go out and do the voting." My sister read it to him and reported back that it was the only time he laughed all day!
Is THIS the best ideas the Republicans have for us? They were voted to win in 2010 to deal with issues and help fix the economy, and THIS is their solution? Is this type of work going to give us prosperity? Republicans deserve to lose if THIS is the best they can do.

This is where you are wrong. For far too long our country has trusted and bought into the "free market" idea that it is always correcting itself and always moves in the proper direction when left unfettered by gov't regulation.
Deregulation opened the door to outsourcing and off shoring of American jobs. And without any type of consequence (in some cases it is rewarded) the flood gates have opened wider. We need someone who sees this as a problem. This is the 21st century and out economy is much different due to technological advances and a global market place. We can not rely upon the private sector to enact protectionist measures to safeguard the American worker. It has not happened and it will not happen without the Federal Government putting its finger in the dyke. To assume that archaic economic principals are still the cornerstone of today's economy is narrow minded.
President Obama champions such ideas as rewarding companies that bring jobs and investment within our borders. Likewise he would penalize companies who look overseas for cheap labor and even cheaper forms of investment. To do anything but would make no sense.

There are child molesters who deserve their fate but we don't just execute them. I agree that many Americans think that it is OK to execute an American who is inciting terrorism against the USA. However, it is a huge leap for a President to order his killing with no due process. Look how confused the Administration is on this issue. It's OK to order a drone strike to kill an American with no trial, but they wanted a trial for KSM in New York.
However, I am not trying to convict or tar President Obama, I am simply pointing out that the next President gets to use this precedent.
On the War Powers Act we were still bombing Libya beyond the 90 days allowed. The rational on this was that no American lives were at risk. The issue is that with drones and remote bombs, the next President of either party can basically attack Iran from afar, and argue that there is no need to consult Congress. George W Bush started the problem with a compliant congress and Barack H Obama pushed the argument further with a grid-locked congress.
We have to start reigning in the Executive.

Considering a family policy at my organization costs $21,446.97 ($1,787.23 a month), it makes $8,550 ($712.50 a month) quite attractive.
As this outrageous campaign season comes to a close (maybe, if it doesn't end up in the courts again, like the OH challenge being considered today in Columbus to through out the voting machines), it is time for all of you to get involved in the Popular Amendment Movement (www.faircampaignreform.us) and make sure that we get our Election/Campaign Finance Reform accomplished before the beginning of the 2014/16 campaign seasons. It is time to end these two-six year campaigns that we have seen. It will also force all incumbents (for federal office at least) to concentrate on the jobs we are paying them to do instead of always being on the campaign trail. Go vote if you haven't already done so, then start to circulate the two petitions first thing tomorrow. Get your local grassroots movement going to collect the completed petitions for filing with your Secretary of State...and for goodness sake, make sure you have made file copies of each petition before filing them so that you have proof they were filed. Get your file copies stamped with time and date of the filing. I learned this lesson during a recall effort in St. Croix a few years back.
I'll be keeping the PAM website active for at least another two years. Let's take back the power of our elections by getting these two constitutional amendments passed.
Petition for US Constitutional Amendment For Election Reform
We, the undersigned US citizens, duly registered voters in our respective states/territories, do hereby petition for our state to approve the following amendment to the United States Constitution by the method noted below.
Election Reform:
1. Abolish the Electoral College (Repeal Amendment 12)
2. ONE NATIONAL primary date to be held on the Tuesday eight (8) weeks prior to the General Election day for Congressional offices and for the President. Candidate petitions must be filed with the local/state elections boards 60 days prior to the Primary Election date. Federal election petitions shall be uniform in every state and shall include a “contract with the voters” that spells out clearly what that candidate stands for on all issues that they may have to address in elected office. They shall be held accountable in court for breach of that contract if elected and any/all terms are not met.
3. NO campaigning allowed for any elective federal office more than 60 days prior to the National Primary Date.
4. NO campaign contribution shall be donated to any candidate of more than $200 from an individual or $500 maximum from a family (spouses/children living in the same household.) No donations shall be made to a candidate more than sixty days prior to the primary date. No candidate shall contribute from their own funds more than 60% of the total donations from other private individuals.
5. NO campaign contribution from any PAC, corporation, union, non-profit organization, special interest group, etc. shall be allowed for any elected federal office.
6. NO third party campaigning (separate PAC ads, corporate ads, etc.) for/against any candidate shall be allowed at any time during or before the election season.
7. NO party conventions shall be held to select the presidential candidates. The selection must be done at the ballot box in the primary election.
8. The One Man/One Vote Supreme Court ruling shall be enforced by this Amendment, namely that NO federal candidate selection shall be by any means other than the ballot box on Primary/General Election Dates.
9. National Party Organizations shall NOT raise money for or donate to specific candidates of their party prior to the dates outlined above.
10. PAC’s shall NOT be granted tax-exempt status by the IRS, and any non-profit organization who uses their funding for political purposes shall lose their tax-exempt status.
11. All lobbyists shall be outlawed from influencing Congress at all times.
This amendment shall be approved ONLY by State Constitutional Conventions to be called within 90 days of this petition being submmitted to a state’s Secretary of State. A minimum of 25% of the registered voters in each state shall be required to further this petition to the respective Secretary of State.

I did my job this AM. I went to the polls but forgot my camera so I went home and got it. I wanted to make sure I have a picture of my ballot. I live in Oneida County, New York. We have paper ballots and they are scanned after you fill out the bubbles. When I received my ballot, there was some discussion about where to fill it out if I wanted privacy. I told them I wasn't ashamed to admit I was voting for President Obama!!! I'm glad this election is over. I need my life back!!!!

I am going to talk of controversial things. I make no apology for this.

Regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward path. The Founding Fathers knew a government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose. So we have come to a time for choosing.

If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what's at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States. Those who ask us to trade our freedom for the soup kitchen of the welfare state are architects of a policy of accommodation.
They say the world has become too complex for simple answers. They are wrong. There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right. If I'd ONLY seen your case FOR R$mney sooner,...I might have been swayed! But alas, I was at my polling place at 5:45a (8th in line) and didn't get it in time. I voted a straight Dem ticket and retained all of our judges, as we have one of the best judicial appointment processes in the country. Also voted DOWN the measure giving power to the Governor on that topic. Also voted to INCREASE cigarette taxes. Further, I voted to FUND healthcare exchanges (for Obamacare). And finally, I agree that local municipal police forces or departments should be controlled by the local governing body.

While I don't normally endorse negative ads, I think the Obama campaign's negative blitz against Romney was an opportunity that Obama campaign could not pass up. After watching Romney get ripped by his Republican primary opponents over his flip-flopping, his vulture capitalism days at Bain, his self-deportation policy idea, and his poor record as governor of Massachusetts, it was a great opportunity to build on this negative portrayal of Romney.
Furthermore, Romney showed he had no scruples about unleashing a vicious attack on an opponent. Just ask Newt Gingrich about that. And he had the money to do it.
I would call the Obama campaign's negative ads a preemptive strike. Romney would certainly have gone negative against Obama and everyone knew that he would.
What I didn't expect from Romney was the lie about Welfare reform (work requirement strengthened, not eliminated as Romney ad claims), the ad where words of Obama quoting McCain in 2008 election were falsely attributed to Obama as saying about himself, and a convention that adopted as its slogan "we built that" from a comment Obama made that in context clearly referred to "they didn't build roads and bridges".
I have never seen any candidate run a more dishonest campaign than Mitt Romney has. And he says "trust me".
I, for one, don't trust a liar and if there is one thing Romney has proven this campaign, it's that he is a liar.

Second, about lillyledbetter. It is has been illegal for years to discriminate in pay over sex. What lillyledbetter did new was eliminate the statute of limitations of 7 years to allow women to sue on allegations of lower pay for equal job and experience.
Most women who do have lower pay is from less experience for the position. I've seen the right point out that Obama's women's staff pay is lower than men, but that is probably the issue there.
What I have seen, but not recently, was women not getting a position because they were in child-bearing age. The unfortunate thing is employers are smart enough not to say or put anything in writing if they did that. On the same note, single dad's get passed over too. I'd say good for you that they passed you over, because if they are doing that, they don't need you advancing them.

You obviously don't know what Lilly Ledbetter is about. Ledbetter sued, and that's EXACTLY what the court told her. PROBLEM, there was no way for her to have the knowledge that she was being paid less. It created an avenue for that information to be given to females.

Well, You've got to give us points for trying! Even though Romney is up nearly 30 points in Oklahoma and will almost certainly carry the state by a huge margin, there were people standing on street corners this morning in the 35 degree temps waving Obama signs and cheering. When I drove by the same corner at new there TWICE the number of Obama supporters waving signs and smiling.
You can't say we're not trying and I think it's a good sign. I've seen more Obama stickers and signs this year than in 2008 by a very big margin. I have actually seen very few Romney signs or bumper stickers.

Capacity to do work certainly has an effect on pay. A single father may not have as much time to do homework which is frequently required of salaried workers as someone with less family responsibilities. Any disparity in wage results from disparity in work output and quality of the work.
The Lilly Leddbetter case was a case of discrimination against a woman who held the same position and did the same work as higher paid male co-workers. There is a tendency for some businesses to treat men better when it comes to wages than women, because the man is considered to be the main breadwinner for his family. This rationale is discrimination.
The date of discovery is really the only fair way to judge wage discrimination. That salary of others not being known should not serve as a basis for denying settlement of wage discrimination. This is only being fair. Fairness is an American value too.

I was actually referring to this morning only. There's been quite a few issues with the electronic voting machines (which I am strongly against as a software engineer), voter ID issues, threats, etc.
And no, we don't hang out in the same places, most of the sites you quoted are strongly left leaning. But from the headlines in the urls, I've read most of those articles already.
The only way voting can be trusted is to get free government id's to those that don't have one, and to get rid of these electronic voting machines.
While I might not want obama to win, if he does win, I would like to feel safe that it was the will of the majority, not the will of a bunch of fraudsters. I can only hope you left leaning folks would want the same thing if romney won.

Cleary you assume to much. Again the key to the lilly ledbetter act was the removing of the statute of limitations to allow women to sue at any time. Obiously thereason to remove the limitation is because people find out they are wronged long after they could have sued. This happens all the time in the cases of theft and host of other crimes.
Here is why there was opposition to this act, although most are for it, it has to do with why statutes of limitations do exist. If they do not exist then you get John Demjanjuk like cases that really don't do anything. That guy certainly wasn't in the US by a legitimate means, but the proof on him being really who he was accused of being was thin enough that the Israeli courts dismissed the case. Germany then picked it up and procecuted him any how in an effort to esponge itself further of it's guilt in the Holocaust. Was he really "ivan the terrible"? Only God really knows.
Think of it this way. I am a professional in the Building industry. If you make my liabilty on matters open ended to be sued at any time to any extent, I'm either going to not practice, or to work for someone else stupid enough to put their name on the work and except such terms. Trust me, I've seen plenty of tickytack lawsuits that I wasn't a part of that cost the people I worked for bundles of money whether really did something wrong or not. Usually, they did nothing wrong but got blamed anyhow.

I think the reality of fighting terrorism is that we would have a very difficult time arresting a terrorist on foreign soil. It would be a risky undertaking with the likelihood of American casualties. I will always prefer arrest, trial, and conviction of a child molester or terrorist. The reality is that terrorists kill and if we cannot arrest them, we must make the judgment whether to let them continue to commit acts of terror or kill them. I believe killing them is appropriate if no other option such as capture is feasible.
As to Libya, I am not aware of any US bombing after the first week. I remember the French doing the bombing of targets in Libya after that first week.

Sproul’s firms and political consulting operations have faced questions over the past eight years, including investigations and formal charges of suppressing Democratic votes, destroying voter registrations and other election violations. The charges against Small came a month after voter registration work by a Sproul company prompted a fraud investigation in Florida.
After the Florida investigation became public, the Republican National Committee said it was severing ties with Strategic Allied Consulting. At that time, Strategic stopped overseeing registration workers in Virginia and Pinpoint, Strategic’s staffing contractor, began overseeing the work.

The war on poverty started in 1965. Since then we have spent over $17 trillion dollars on it. In 1965 the poverty level was 14%, today it is 14.3% (15.1% including recessionary effects), there’s something wrong.
When we spend more than any nation, other than Switzerland, on education and we still rank in the bottom ½ to 1/3 in math, reading and science, there’s something wrong.
The Institute of medicine reported that our health care system has over $750 billion of waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in it, and you want more government in your doctor’s office. Why do we send so much money to Washington, for them to percolate it through the massive bureaucracy there, and then send it back to the States as part of Medicaid payments, student loans, grants, subsidies and other wasteful vehicles? Why don’t we just keep the money in the States and use it more effectively?

Until it slaps a “sunset clause” on every piece of legislation. Until it eliminates at least the 25% of programs that don’t do ANYTHING. The Department of Education has been in existence since 1980. However, education has been under the influence of the federal government since 1953 when it was part of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (H.E.W).
Remember, the average American, which includes many parents today, read at an 8th grade level. If you don’t understand this, realize that Obama’s last 3 State of the Union speeches have all been written at the 8th grade level. This was graded by the Flesch-Kincaid test which associates longer sentences and more complex words with higher grade levels and scores them accordingly.
You may find it interesting that our Congress’ rhetorical skills have decreased from a high of 11th grade in 2005 to a 10th grade level today. This should give pause to anyone believing we send the brightest and best to represent us in government.

BUT---today I am also voting because I'm MAD AS HELL. That in a great country like ours people have to wait in line 4 or more hours. That despite waiting in those lines their votes might not be counted. That some people don't have the luxury of 4 hours to stand in a line. It is outrageous and it is because of Republican voter suppression. Until the Republican party has that civil war and stops this despicable behavior I will NEVER vote for another Republican and I will work as hard as I can to advance the cause of the Democrats, who never stood in the way of anyone voting.

And certainly Mr. Obama was not crying because this was his last campaign stop (albeit, he has spent a considerable amount of his presidency campaigning). He was crying because he obviously fears he is about to lose. And when he does lose he will have no one but himself to blame.His campaign was based purely on attacks and he offered no vision or plan for the future. He tried to, again, run on a slogan, Forward, but all the voters could see was the country going forward into the financial abyss if Mr. Obama were to be reelected. If you were to ask today, election day, Mr. Obama's most ardent supporters what are the specifics of his plan to reduce the national debt, stop deficit spending and create private sector jobs, deal with trade, etc... all you would get are blank stares or maybe some canned talking points devoid of any substance whatsoever. No wonder he wants to play basketball, he has nothing to talk about and offers no leadership. And when you waste a golden opportunity to provide leadership to the greatest country on earth that's something to cry about.

Mitt Romney will win. The tie in the polls goes to the challenger. Here's why:
Enthusiasm. It matters enormously, and it's disproportionately on the Republican side, in good measure because of an intense desire to defeat President Obama. True, enthusiasm doesn't guarantee an edge in turnout, but it's certainly a key indicator. "In these final days, turnout is driven by intensity," says Republican pollster Ed Goeas. The nearly half the electorate that strongly disapproves of Obama's performance in office "will need little else other than the opportunity to vote against President Obama to motivate them to go to their polling place." Goeas conducts the bipartisan Battleground Poll along with Democrat Celinda Lake.
In 2008, self-identified Democrats led Republicans in turnout by seven percentage points. Gallup's projection is that Republicans will have a 49-46 percent edge this year. "The political environment and the composition of the likely electorate strongly favor Governor Romney," Goeas says. The Battleground Poll's "vote election model" projects Romney with 51 percent.
Ground game. The Obama get-out-the-vote drive (GOTV) is not quite the powerful juggernaut it was in 2008 and the Republican effort is far better than four years ago. The Republican National Committee isn't alone this time. Americans for Prosperity and a coalition of a dozen conservative groups—from the National Rifle Association to the Republican Jewish Coalition—have put together a massive GOTV effort focused on swing voters in key states. They've averaged 1.8 million phone calls per day in recent days.
Early voting numbers are further evidence of ground game parity. Democrats have a slight edge, but their numbers are down significantly from 2008. Far more Republicans have voted early this year than in 2008.
Undecideds. Undecided voters are thought to vote disproportionately for the challenger over a sitting president. In truth, there's no empirical evidence for this widely acknowledged tendency. But to the extent it exists, it helps Romney. Goeas, for one, figures most still undecided voters simply won't vote.
Indicators. Many point to a Romney win. He does well among "high-propensity-voting" blocs such as, in the Battleground Poll, seniors (54 percent), married voters (56 percent), weekly church attendees (59 percent), white evangelicals (79 percent), and gun owner householders (60 percent). He also leads among key demographic groups such as suburban voters (54 percent), Catholics (53 percent), and middle class voters (52 percent).
Obama has large leads among groups such as Hispanics with a lower propensity to vote. "If the president's campaign is not able to replicate his 2008 electorate (which is looking increasingly unlikely), the president loses," Goeas says.
Issues. The most important ones favor Romney: the economy, the deficit, and the debt. Independents, the demographic group most sensitive to these issues, went for Obama by eight percentage points in 2008. Now they're tilting to Romney by roughly the same percentage.
Conclusion: Romney will be elected the 45th president of the United States.

The final Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll of Election 2012 shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 48%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate. See daily tracking history.
The Rasmussen Reports Electoral College projections now show the president with 237 Electoral Votes and Romney with 206. The magic number needed to win the White House is 270. I beg to differ with your posted analysis. This race is very similar to 2004, when quite a few 'indicators' pointed to a John Kerry victory. Of course the incumbent, GW Bush, won in a close election.
Enthusiasm- This supposed 'enthusiasm' gap has all but disappeared in the latest polls. Enthusiasm towards 'voting out' an unpopular incumbent wasnt enough for John Kerry, and it wont be enough for Romney.
Ground Game - Yes, the Republican ground game has improved from 2004, mainly because of the influx of money. I can attest to the fact that in Ohio the Obama ground game is far more organized and efficient. I received five Republican robo-calls yesterday, even though I have already voted early. The Obama campaign sent my wife a personalized letter thanking her for voting in 2008, and giving her a number to call if she needs a ride to the polls. I didnt get a letter becasue I had already voted - and the Obama campaign KNEW that.
Undecideds - the Undecideds have not 'broken' for the incumbent since the '90s. More sophisticated polling methods better identify likely voters, and in the last two elections Undecided split almost evenly, and a 3 pt lead remained a 3-pt lead.
Indicators - The Romney 'bloc' is mainly White and Elderly. Whites were 74% of the electorate in 2008, continuing a trend of declining about 3-4% each election cycle. If that trend continues Romney will lose in a landslide. If the 74% holds it will be close. If the trend reverses (for the first time in decades) Romney has a legitimate chance of winning.
Issues - This is a tough call. Economic indicators are bad but still improving. Those who blame Obama are the ones who vote Republican anyway. Those who blame GW Bush vote Democrat. Those who give equal blame will probably split their vote. Hispanics and Women will not vote for ROmney in greta numbers becasue of his stance on Immigration and Women's issues.
I still say that although Romney has a chance to win the odds are certainly NOT in his favor. If long voting lines discourage minority voters then his 'bloc' may be enough to pull it out.
I think it is tragic that Romney's only real chance to win is to 'turn back the clock' by suppressing and discouraging the minority vote.
You have to reach for positive indicators for Mitt Romney's chances, but eith election day here, there's no harm in deluding yourself until the results are in. Although I fear that this Republican party, with it's habit of rejecting reality, may just reject the results entirely, even if facing a convincing defeat.
Consider:
President Obama leads nationally in polls with likely voters.
President Obama leads by a wider margin among registered voters, meaning higher turnout will only improve his outcomes.
President Obama leads in polls of all of the swing states, except for Florida (which is a true tossup) and North Carolina (where Governor Romney is the clear favorite).
Going by Nate Silver's probabilities, President Obama has a better chance to take North Carolina than Mitt Romney has to take any swing state other than Florida.
Momentum has clearly been swinging towards President Obama as he has made gains in polls over the last few weeks. Romney's gains after the first debate were largely halted when the vice presidential debate stopped the bleeding, and since then, support has only swung in favor of the president.
Economic indicators have continued their slow improvement.
Democrats are strongly favored to retain control of the Senate, despite having many more vulnerable seats up for election this year.
If you want to believe that Mitt Romney has a decent shot at victory, history is not on your side, so you need to come up with reasons why this election is different from any before. What is unique that could swing the election his way without being picked up in the polls? The bet seems to be on suppressing voter turnout. If Republicans are successful, that would be the most likely explanation, that their legislative efforts and their activists in polling places were successful in obstructing the very process of voting to the point where the shrank the electorate enough to eek out a narrow victory. If that turns out to be the case, which I'm not ruling out at this point, it will be a sad day for America and what we once though was our democratic republic. Preserving that system is my top issue this year, and reason enough to vote against every Republican who would undermine it, undermine our rights, and undermine our liberties for their own political and financial benefit.

Our President has a hard 4 years ahead and I wish him and his family the strength they will need to do the job.
He has his hands full right away with the victims of Sandy. They'll be hit again over the next few days and we all need to do as much as we can to help them in any way possible.

Just finished voting in Ohio. The lines are backed up. Good turnout vote today. Doesn't bode well for Obama based off the comments I'm hearing on the ground.

On this "Decision Day" the American People need to ask the following questions. Where are the Tax Returns of the GOP?RNC "Tax Cheat and Chief" are? How much money did the GOP/RNC "Outsourcer and Chief" rob from the American People in the "Delphi Deal?" Why is the GOP/TeaBegger "Pathologically Lying" in his Jeep and Chrysler Ads? Why is "Romulian Romney" so "Alien" to the Middle Class, the Working Poor, the elderely, and the disabled? Why is the GOP/RNC "Flip-Flopper" not able to mean what his says? Why won't the GOP/RNC "Outsourcer and Chief" not talk about what he is doing in Freeport Illinois? The questions concerning the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" are troubling and just down right scary for America. Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! The Party of no has got to go!!

We have fifty state legislatures that have been called laboratories for new ways of dealing with public policy issues. Here in Oregon, for example, we wanted to increase voter participation in elections while increasing privacy and protecting the integrity of elections. We also wanted to reduce cost of elections and increase convenience. Our answer was to conduct all elections as if everyone had requested an absentee ballot.

No long lines, higher turnout (average of 80%), lower costs, and no verified instances of fraud.
Washington State has now adopted the Oregon system and maybe your state should also consider it.
Just glanced at the Fox News main web page. Very easy to see what their arguments will be if they (and there's no point in saying "the Republicans", since Fox News is one and the same) lose tonight. They've got one full section of "media bias" commentaries, and another full section of election fraud stories.
The ironic thing is the one true instance of election fraud so far this year is an Oregon Republican who has been charged with filling in blank spots on ballots for (R) candidates.
Also, even though Sam Wang's modeling at the PEC showed that "Ro-mentum" ended about a week after the first debate, if the (R)s lose, they'll blame Hurricane Sandy for changing the shape of the race. Which would be quite ironic, given that some on that side like to say that God has a hand in certain disasters.
So proud of my President . . . it is going to be a beautiful night for our country and the world.
